00:01 It's almost time for "Kids' Time."
00:02 We're gonna be late.
00:04 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:08 Looking for a friend like Jesus
00:11 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so.
00:20 Let's tell them that He loves us so.
00:24 Kids' Time, Kids' Time,
00:26 Kids' Time, Kids Time, Kid's Time.
00:31 Hi, boys and girls.
00:33 Have you ever thought about what it means to be rich?
00:35 Doesn't being rich mean having lots and lots of money
00:38 and the freedom to buy whatever you want.
00:40 Well, that's what most people think.
00:43 But money can't buy happiness.
00:45 In fact, many rich people are miserable
00:47 and how can that be?
00:49 How can a person who can have everything they want,
00:51 still be sad and miserable?
00:53 Well, boys and girls, real riches has nothing to do
00:56 with having a lot of money.
00:58 And in fact, the more you give away,
01:00 the richer you are.
01:01 That's what our Bible story is about today. Be generous.
01:06 Start thinking of others more than you think of yourself
01:08 and just see how much happier and richer it makes you feel.
01:12 Then write me a letter and tell me all about it, okay.
01:15 Well, right now it's time for-- if we can get Max to wake up,
01:19 you think we can, you think we can get Max to wake up.
01:21 Max! No.
01:23 He's sleepy dog. It's time for "Nature Time."
01:32 Hi, boys and girls. Welcome to "Nature Time."
01:34 Ranger Dwight is so excited because
01:36 we've been out here with well renowned,
01:38 Dr. Guy Harvey, an expert marine biologist.
01:41 We've been with stingrays and we're gonna talk about
01:43 something else, and what's that?
01:44 Well, was the stingrays are icon of the shallow reef.
01:48 We're gonna go and visit the icon of the deep reef
01:50 which is the Nassau grouper. The Nassau grouper.
01:52 We're gonna journey to Little Cayman
01:53 and we're gonna see what a wonderful research
01:55 that has been done to help conserve
01:57 this incredible species.
01:58 I can't wait, let's go. All right. Let's go.
03:04 Wow. What an exciting day, kids.
03:06 We've been out all day long
03:08 and we've been looking at groupers.
03:10 Now what kind of groupers were they again, Dr. Guy?
03:12 There's a Nassau groupers, Ranger Dwight.
03:14 They're--they're coming here to spawn during February, March,
03:17 they'll be here during the four months.
03:18 So the timing of us being here is very specific, okay.
03:21 What has been happening is they've been over fished
03:23 for many, many years, decades in fact.
03:26 Now the government of Cayman has put a ban
03:28 on fishing this groupers, when they congregate
03:30 or aggregate into this spawning groups.
03:33 They become very vulnerable to fishermen.
03:36 For the last eight years, they've protected
03:37 these sites from fishing altogether.
03:39 So that the population can bounce back.
03:41 So now the groupers come to the same spot
03:44 around every year then? Every year.
03:46 The scientist from REEF,
03:48 that's Reef Environmental Education Foundation,
03:50 plus the Department of Environment here
03:52 at Cayman have worked very closely together
03:55 to protect these sites during spawning.
03:57 They've got out there,
03:58 they measured the fish using lasers.
03:59 They tag the fish using all kinds of tags
04:02 to follow their movements around the island,
04:04 to prove that they congregate in one spot.
04:06 On the spawning sites, the fish change color. Wow!
04:09 In sea, we saw a lot of color changes
04:11 with the males going very dark
04:13 and with a beautiful white stripe through their eye.
04:16 And right before dusk, they get together
04:18 with all the gravid females and the hunt is on.
04:20 And it's called caging,
04:22 where the males about six or eight
04:23 of them will come and threw them right up to the female
04:25 and kind of hooks her into spawning her eggs.
04:27 Wow! It's a free for all.
04:28 There's a big flurry of activity and there's this spreading
04:31 of gametes and they'll go back down to the reef.
04:34 The whole thing is repeated time and time again
04:36 over two or three day period.
04:37 Just over two or three day period,
04:39 now is this-- is this Nassau grouper,
04:41 is they're coming back more than what it used to be,
04:44 it was very low in population but what about now?
04:47 Some who live here in little Cayman Island
04:48 is much, much better of them anywhere else,
04:50 Grand Cannon or Cayman Brac, because this one spot
04:53 has been protected for over 8 years now.
04:55 The population has recovered but it is the only site left
04:58 in the Caribbean where there is still a decent population
05:02 from which this species can bounce back
05:04 because without a chance given to them,
05:07 this species will become more endangered, if not extinct.
05:11 How big do these groupers get?
05:13 These--they grow to like, you know, 50 pounds,
05:15 but the average you will see
05:17 on the reef is like 5 to 10 pounds.
05:19 The importance of having the big fish there
05:21 is that they carry more eggs.
05:23 So the big females are ones you want to keep them alive
05:25 for longer time, they spend more time on the dive,
05:28 on the spike site, we call it.
05:31 They're the ones that are gonna give you a healthy offspring.
05:33 In addition to proving that, we also track the larvae
05:36 using flotation devices, drift markers
05:40 with the satellite transmitters to follow where the eggs went.
05:43 We find that the eggs and larvae
05:44 come back to Little Cayman and they resettle on the reef.
05:48 So these groupers are, you know, resupplying that area,
05:52 they don't come from somewhere else
05:53 up current like Cuba or Jamaica.
05:55 Dr. Guy, that's just fascinating.
05:57 The biggest problem with over extraction
05:59 of the groupers, kids, is an extinction is forever
06:02 and if you kill them off, they ain't gonna come back.
06:05 Wow. Well, we don't want to ever make the Nassau grouper extinct.
06:09 Dr. Guy, it's been a pleasure having you with us today.
06:11 You know a lot, I guess that's why
06:12 they call you a Marine Biologist.
06:14 That's tremendous. Thank you so much.
06:16 Kids, never forget.
06:18 Nature has got second book, get out there, take a look.
06:32 This world is not my home I'm just a passing through
06:37 My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
06:41 The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
06:45 And I can't feel at home in this world anymore
06:50 Oh Lord, You know I have no friend like you
06:55 If heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
06:59 The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
07:03 And I can't feel at home in this world anymore
07:16 It's "Learning Time."
07:18 Hey, thanks for joining us today.
07:20 I think we're gonna make a lot of fun stuff.
07:22 And I need some helpers to help me
07:24 do this and mix all these things together.
07:27 I've got Nathan over here.
07:28 Now, Nathan, what's the most fun thing you like to do?
07:32 Ski. You like to ski, on water or snow or?
07:35 Snow. On snow.
07:37 Hey, that'd be a cool thing to do,
07:38 wouldn't it? I think so.
07:39 Now we have Hannah over here.
07:41 Now, Hannah, I understand you like to collect things.
07:43 Oh, what do you collect? Crayfish.
07:46 Oh, really? What about crayfish? What do you do?
07:48 And I like to take them to camp meeting,
07:50 I have a display sometimes. Oh, cool.
07:53 Ever have anything interesting happened with?
07:56 Yeah, once.
07:58 I dared somebody to touch them and he actually did
08:00 stick his finger in there and he got bitten.
08:02 And I asked him why?
08:04 And he said just to see if it would hurt.
08:06 Oh, okay, I bet it hurt, 'cause they have pinchers, don't they?
08:08 And so we have Emma over here.
08:10 Now, Emma, what's your very favorite color?
08:13 Purple. It's purple.
08:14 Hey, let's get all of our helpers up here.
08:16 We might make something that's kind of close to purple.
08:18 Come on up here. And let's see what we've got.
08:20 We've got some safety glasses,
08:22 we're using some things
08:24 we wouldn't want to get in our eyes, okay.
08:26 Okay, move over just a little bit, Emma.
08:27 Okay, and here, you can come over here--I'll move this over.
08:29 I'm gonna put my safety glasses on too.
08:33 Now what we have right here is we're gonna make something
08:35 called not slime, but we're gonna make
08:37 something that's very close to silly putty.
08:39 Now silly putty is kind of interesting,
08:41 so I'm gonna help you mix it up, okay.
08:43 So what I want you to do is I want you to take your bags
08:45 and open them up.
08:47 Okay, open them up just like this.
08:48 And what we're going to do is we're going to add something
08:52 to your bag, so I'm gonna pour this one into here, okay.
08:55 And I'm gonna pour yours in here, Emma, just like that.
08:58 Now this is water and it has some food coloring in it.
09:01 So we don't want to maybe get that on our clothes.
09:04 And then we have some of this white stuff right here,
09:06 what does that look like? Glue.
09:08 That's right. It's glue.
09:09 This is white glue and we're gonna pour
09:11 that white gluein there, just like that,
09:13 try to get most of it in there that we can, okay.
09:16 And we're gonna pour this one in here.
09:18 And if you can do that yourself, Hannah,
09:20 you can go ahead and do that without messing up over here.
09:24 Well, white glue, white glue is an adhesive, isn't it?
09:27 Glue things together. Okay, just like that.
09:30 Now what we have is water and glue mixed all together.
09:33 Now if we can take this and I can smash this together
09:36 and I will get is watery blue glue.
09:40 That's all we'll get and that would just be
09:42 a little swashing mess right here.
09:44 But we're gonna put a secret agent,
09:47 we're gonna add it to the glue and the water.
09:49 Now the secret agent is in this container right here.
09:52 And it's called borax.
09:54 Now borax is interesting, 'cause I'm gonna pour some
09:56 right into yours right there and then we're gonna zip it up.
09:59 Go ahead and zip yours up.
10:00 And you can pour yours in there as well.
10:02 Go ahead and zip yours up.
10:03 All right, zip it all the way up just like that.
10:06 Is it close? You got to make sure it's close.
10:09 Is that--no, no, no it's got to go one way or the other.
10:12 It's close right now. We don't want it to come open.
10:14 And just go ahead and mix that up just like this,
10:16 just mix it and something should happen.
10:20 Are you feeling something in there? Yeah.
10:22 What do you feeling-- happening in there?
10:24 Some goo.
10:25 Is there a big glum or something in there?
10:27 Yeah. There is a big glum of something in there.
10:30 I'll tell you what. Once you think you've got a glum.
10:32 I want you to reach in and I want you to grab the glum.
10:36 And take it out and put it on your paper towel.
10:39 And what they should come up with is what?
10:42 Something that looks like that. Is that what's in yours?
10:46 Okay, go and--okay, open it up
10:48 and see if you can pull that out.
10:50 And this is what we call silly putty.
10:52 It's kind of like silly putty.
10:53 It's actually putty and it's made out of silly stuff.
10:58 No, it's not made out of silly stuff, it's what?
11:00 Water and what?
11:03 Glue and...And some borax. Borax.
11:05 And it has some very interesting properties.
11:07 If I stretch it really, really slow,
11:09 it will stretch just like this,
11:11 but if I pull it really, really fast,
11:13 what is suppose to happen? It breaks just like that,
11:16 but you can have a lot of fun with this
11:17 and you can make your own silly type putty stuff.
11:21 Isn't that interesting? Yeah.
11:23 But how would you like to just play
11:24 with the water and glue by itself?
11:26 Yeah. Oh, would that be kind of a mess.
11:29 We just have the stringing strand of watery glue
11:32 and it wouldn't be fun to play with it all.
11:33 So the borax is the agent.
11:36 The agent that makes
11:37 this have some very interesting properties.
11:39 You know, that reminds me,
11:41 you know, sometimes people are all alike
11:44 and we can't kind of tear them apart
11:45 just like that water in that glue.
11:47 But, you know, if you and I have the secret agent in our lives
11:51 and that secret agent is really Jesus' love in our hearts
11:55 and we become extraordinary and we can become something
11:59 that people look at and say, wow, man,
12:01 I would really like to be like that.
12:04 And that's what I want in my life.
12:06 Is that what you want in your life?
12:07 Yes. I do too. And, you know, what,
12:09 when we study more about science,
12:12 we learn more about our Creator God.
12:26 Something to drink my Lord.
12:28 Finally, I thought I was going to die of thirst
12:31 before you showed up.
12:35 Is that the best you have to offer.
12:36 No, my Lord, how about this one?
12:42 That will do. Maybe some bread.
12:46 Your lordship. Begging your pardon.
12:49 There is a poor widow that begs an ordinance with you.
12:52 She is so devastatingly poor Her husband just passed.
12:57 She has no money, no food.
12:59 If you would just grant a bit of few moment
13:01 of your time, she would be so-- No, no, no, I'm far too busy.
13:05 Can't you see the important business
13:07 I'm in the middle of? Of course--
13:09 I have no time.
13:10 Nothing is more important, but if you could just--
13:13 her daughter is with her and they have nothing to eat.
13:16 If you could just please to spare just a moment
13:18 Fine, fine three minutes. Of course, your lordship.
13:26 The widow, your lordship, and her daughter.
13:29 My lord, thank you for seeing us.
13:33 You see, my husband just passed away.
13:36 And my children and I have no food.
13:39 Might you please give us a little bit of money
13:42 and food to get us by.
13:44 No, no. Can't you see
13:47 I don't have a crumbing to spare.
13:49 If you applied yourself half as much as I did,
13:52 then you wouldn't be in the situation that you are.
13:54 My lord, I beg if you please have mercy on us, my lord.
14:00 No, no-- You see my child.
14:02 No and for the last time, no. Lord, please.
14:07 Get them out of my sight.
14:08 My lord, I beg you-- have mercy on us.
14:14 They are ruining my appetite.
14:17 My lord, if it pleases you,
14:19 could I just give them just a bit of yesterday's bread?
14:22 No, you may not, it does not please me--
14:26 Begging your forgiveness, my lord,
14:27 just one for the matter there is an incident in the barn
14:30 that need your immediate attention--
14:32 That's fine, fine after I'm through here.
14:35 Yes, my lord. Yes, my lord. May be.
15:02 Ten,
15:05 ten and ten.
15:10 Hey, My lordship--with that.
15:14 Sophar, what is this, this is my stuff.
15:20 Indeed it is, my lordship.
15:22 What's going on in my barn?
15:24 Well, that is the matter that required
15:26 your immediate attention, my lord.
15:28 I'll say, it's a mess.
15:30 Well, it seems that your riches have
15:33 somewhat overflowed the barn already,
15:36 we are bit overstocked in resources,
15:40 my lord, you're most blessed.
15:42 This is embarrassing. And people could steal my stuff.
15:47 Tear it down. Tear it down and rebuild it.
15:50 This time next year I'm going to have even more stuff.
15:53 I'm going to need a much bigger barn to hold set stuff.
15:57 Of course, my lord.
15:59 Tear it down and indeed we shall.
16:01 It's embarrassing. Nice, but--
16:06 Bread, bread.
16:12 How dare you.
16:15 Do I look like a beggar to you?
16:18 I don't have time for this.
16:19 I'm barely getting by on what I have.
16:22 There will be no handouts here.
16:24 Go. So--Sophar.
16:25 I'm hungry. I don't care.
16:29 Get her out of here. Yes, my lord, I'm so sorry.
16:35 Poor people.
16:39 I gonna really go for a glass of wine right about now.
16:42 Of course, my lord. Now.
16:46 Expensive wine. Yes.
16:48 It is expensive, isn't it?
16:50 It's expensive indeed, my lord.
16:52 Good. It's my favorite kind.
16:55 I did say now, didn't I?
16:57 I'm so, so sorry, my lord.
17:02 Nothing like a nice droplet of wine, aha.
17:09 Sophar My lord.
17:13 And don't think I didn't see you spill that wine.
17:17 That will be coming out of your wages.
17:19 Much deserved, my lord.
17:25 Servant, quickly. How many?
17:38 Oh, what a glorious day.
17:42 I may very well be
17:45 the richest man in Palestine.
17:51 Next year I think I'll tear down my stores
17:55 and built the barns even bigger to house my goods.
18:00 Then I'll retire and live out the rest
18:03 of my days in a life of luxury.
18:07 Oh, what a glorious day.
18:16 You fool, this very night you will have to give up your life.
18:23 Then who will get all these things
18:25 you have kept for yourself.
18:46 Master, I heard a voice. Master.
18:51 Oh, no, the judgment of God
18:54 has fallen upon my wicked master.
19:00 King, I had everything.
19:04 You lost it all in one night.
19:08 It didn't have to be this way.
19:11 It didn't have to be this way.
19:35 Open our eyes Lord
19:40 We want to see Jesus
19:45 To reach out and touch Him
19:51 And say that we love Him
19:57 Open our ears Lord
20:02 And help us to listen
20:08 Open our eyes Lord
20:13 We want to see Jesus
20:28 Hi, boys and girls.
20:30 It's time for Miss Brenda's Book of the Day.
20:33 And today's book is by a very special author
20:36 and special friend of Miss Brenda's, Karen Collum.
20:39 And she wrote the book "Fish Don't Need Snorkels."
20:42 Isn't that a really fun title?
20:44 This book is all about how God made each animal
20:48 just right and He makes boys and girls just right too.
20:52 You won't want to miss this book.
20:53 And this book is really for the younger
20:55 audience of Kids' Time.
20:57 And it's kind of appropriate today,
20:59 because my guest today is a younger audience member
21:03 who loves Kids' Time and he is here witnessing for Jesus.
21:06 Meet Samuel. Hi, Samuel.
21:08 I'm so glad that you came to be on Kids' Time.
21:11 I'm so glad you're here. It's nice to be here.
21:14 Well, thank you.
21:16 I asked you to come and be on Kids' Time,
21:18 because you do something special to share Jesus, what is that?
21:22 I speak. You speak, where do you speak?
21:25 I speak at all kinds of churches.
21:27 In churches and what do you speak on?
21:29 I speak on Job, Abraham and Isaac.
21:32 I went back to Job.
21:34 Then I'm talking about Daniel,
21:37 then Jonah and I think I'm gonna do Esther.
21:40 Oh, really.
21:41 Oh, we just taped Queen Esther
21:43 for Bible Time stories here on Kids' Time.
21:45 I think you have to come and be in our Bible story
21:47 sometime, would you like that? Yes, ma'am.
21:50 Well, I want to know, would you mind
21:52 kind of just given us a little sample of your sermon.
21:54 Yes, ma'am.
21:56 All right, if you're gonna start your sermon, what do you do?
21:58 I would pray.
22:00 You would pray and after prayer what would you do?
22:02 I would do the introduction.
22:04 And what would the introduction be like?
22:06 It would be like-- first giving honor to God
22:10 who is the head of my life.
22:12 I'm overjoyed to be here today.
22:14 It makes my heart fill with joy anytime
22:17 I have the opportunity to share God's word with others.
22:21 I get so excited about all the great things
22:24 God do for us and all His wonderful creations.
22:28 And we--I think about all His greatness,
22:31 I cannot help but to think how much He loves us.
22:34 And how much more He blesses us
22:36 who we are faithful and obedient to Him.
22:39 And Bible tells us about lot of people
22:43 who put their trust and faith in God.
22:45 My favorite Bible story is called Daniel.
22:48 Daniel in the lions' den.
22:50 Wow, now let me just interrupt you a minute,
22:52 'cause that's quite an introduction,
22:54 isn't that boys and girls?
22:55 I mean he really knows how to preach.
22:57 But you still call yourself a preacher,
22:59 you call yourself a speaker, right?
23:00 Yes, ma'am.
23:02 Well, let me ask you this, you are how old?
23:04 Six. You are six years old.
23:07 Okay, so if boys and girls,
23:09 if Samuel can preach at six years old,
23:12 I think that all of us should be ministers for Jesus.
23:15 And we could be out speaking too,
23:17 because God tells us in the Bible
23:18 that we're all supposed to go out and speak for Him.
23:21 So now let me hear the party of sermon,
23:23 how would you start, your story of Job.
23:26 The story of Job. If you're to start your sermon.
23:31 I would say, now Job was a faithful
23:34 and obedient servant to God.
23:36 Okay, and keep going.
23:38 Then I would say, well,
23:42 Job had three sons and three daughters.
23:48 And Job had lots of sheep and cattle,
23:52 but the devil tried to take away all of that.
23:55 He asks God, can he do that.
23:57 But God said, don't touch him,
23:59 don't make him die or kill him.
24:03 And the devil didn't do none of those things,
24:05 but he had a heart on Job.
24:10 And here you give me a little more,
24:11 but what it now, what-- you said you also do Abraham?
24:14 Give me a little bit if you're starting Abraham sermon,
24:16 what would that be like.
24:18 Abraham was faithful too.
24:21 And he married-- his wife's name Isaac--
24:28 His wife's wasn't named Isaac.
24:30 What's the Abraham's wife name?
24:34 Her name was Sarah. That's right.
24:39 Then God came to Abraham and told him
24:43 that he would have a son when he was about 100 years old.
24:48 Then he had a son and he called him Isaac.
24:53 Oh, that's right.
24:56 So Isaac grew up and married a woman.
24:59 And the woman had two twins
25:03 and she felt them kicking and fighting to each other.
25:07 Those two twins were name Issa and Jacob.
25:11 That's right. Can I ask you this?
25:13 What is your favorite Bible story?
25:15 My favorite Bible story is Daniel.
25:18 Daniel? And why is that your favorite?
25:22 Because I like that when he went
25:25 to the city of Jerusalem-- I mean Babylon.
25:32 And how he almost got eaten by the lions,
25:36 but--I liked it when he went down in there,
25:41 but I didn't like it when he was about to get eaten up.
25:45 And I like the angel come and said,
25:49 close the lion's mouth.
25:51 That's the part I like about it.
25:53 I do too, because God sent angels
25:58 to close the lion's mouth and what happened to Daniel?
26:02 He didn't get eaten. No, he didn't.
26:05 Jesus saved him, I mean God saved him,
26:07 didn't he? Yes, He is.
26:08 That's right, I like that story of Daniel in lions' den too.
26:11 I think that's a really good story.
26:14 Maybe we should do that one on Kids' Time,
26:15 but I don't know about all those lions,
26:17 boys and girls, what would we do?
26:22 That would be kind of tricky to do that story, wouldn't it?
26:25 Yes. Yes.
26:27 so would you like to come back
26:28 and be in our Bible stories with us?
26:30 Yes, ma'am.
26:31 Well, I would love that.
26:33 What story would you want to play in?
26:34 I would want to play as the king in Esther.
26:39 Okay. You want to be the king, huh.
26:42 Oh, now how often do you preach?
26:47 I preach on, I think Saturdays and Sundays.
26:54 And you go allover or just like in your hometown?
26:57 Allover. You go allover.
27:00 Well, I think that's pretty special.
27:02 You must love Jesus an awful lot.
27:04 Yes, ma'am. You do.
27:07 Well, I love Jesus too.
27:08 And I want to thank you so much for being with us today, Samuel.
27:11 Keep speaking for Jesus.
27:12 Boys and girls, remember it's Kids' Time to share Jesus.
27:24 Kids' Time.
27:47 Kids' Time. Kids' Time. Kids' Time.
27:49 Kids' Time. Kids' Time.
27:55 Kids' Time.
