00:01 It's almost time for Kids' Time. We're going to be late.
00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there 00:08 Looking for a friend like Jesus 00:12 It's time to share there's a world out there 00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:20 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:24 Kids' Time, Kids' Time, Kids' Time, Kids' Time 00:31 Hi, boys and girls. 00:32 I'm having a great day today, are you? 00:35 We all have different ideas about 00:36 what it means to have a really good day. 00:39 For some of us, a good day is 00:41 when something exciting happens or we get to do fun things. 00:44 For others, a good day is when we don't have to do our chores 00:47 or we get to visit our friends. 00:49 I know a story about a girl who had a really good day. 00:53 Out of all the beautiful girls in the kingdom, 00:55 she was chosen to be queen. 00:57 Can you imagine the excitement she felt 00:59 when the crown was placed on her head? 01:02 What she didn't know was that God was 01:04 really the one who had chosen her, 01:06 because he had a very special job for her to do. 01:10 Boys and girls, God has chosen you too. 01:13 Some day He will place crowns on our heads 01:15 and we will live with Him in heaven forever. 01:17 Aren't you excited about that day? 01:19 I can't wait. 01:21 Well, right now, let's get ready for--hey, Max. 01:24 Max, are you gonna wake up, you don't want to miss? 01:27 Nature Time. 01:34 Welcome to Nature Time. 01:36 Have you ever swam with a stingray? 01:38 Well, today, we're gonna be with Dr. Guy Harvey 01:40 and he's taking us to Stingray City. Come on. 01:48 We've got like an 80-pound stingray. 01:50 This is a female, right Dr. Guy? 01:52 Absolutely, yep. Big female. Wow. 01:54 And there's a big barb on the back of it. 01:56 And, so, you said that when you go to feed them, 02:00 they have like a suction. 02:02 You don't want to get your hands in there. 02:03 They do. Their mouth is on the underside of their head. 02:05 And they feed on the bottom and they use these big spiracles 02:08 behind the eyes to breathe through and spin around-- 02:12 That's huge. Yeah. 02:14 But in our study, we have to weigh and measure 02:16 all these animals, take DNA samples 02:19 and every one of them 02:20 has a little pit tag in one like a dog has. Okay. 02:23 So that when we catch them again, 02:24 we know the--we know when they were pulled, 02:26 when they were tagged, how much they weighed, 02:28 how they've grown since then. 02:29 We get a perfect history on all these animals. 02:31 I'm gonna let her go 'cause she's really big-- 02:38 Kids, isn't that amazing? 02:55 Dr. Guy, share a little bit about this again. 02:57 I see these-- are they gills 03:00 or what are they holes in back of the eyes there? 03:01 That's a good question. 03:03 Because they're really flattened sharks 03:04 they live on the bottom. Okay. 03:06 They don't want to suck sand through their mouth, 03:07 so they suck water in from the spiracle 03:10 which is behind the eye here. Okay. 03:11 And so they blow it out of their mouth into the sand. 03:14 They also use it to excavate when they're looking for food. 03:17 They excavate the sand, 03:18 they sense something is living under the sand 03:20 and because of their electronic senses 03:23 and they dig it out basically and then suck it down. 03:25 That is so neat. Yeah. 03:27 And I noticed that too, 03:28 that hopefully the camera will get on that, 03:30 but there's a little flap in there that will shut down. 03:33 Absolutely. It controls the water flow through the gills. 03:36 Remember these are night time predators. 03:38 So they're normally foraging at night time. Okay. 03:40 And the little thing we've done here is 03:42 changed their feeding habits. 03:43 They--because they're feeding here in the daytime, 03:45 it tends to shut down at night and do very little. 03:47 Now how-- so they breathe, 03:49 do they have to come up on top or do they-- 03:51 No. They can breathe sitting on the bottom. 03:53 They can breathe sitting on the bottom? Yep. 03:54 And, in fact, sometimes in the daytime 03:56 when they're not moving around that much, 03:57 they cover themselves with sand as protection 04:00 from their predators like tiger sharks. 04:03 Wow. That is so neat. 04:04 Now you said they have these, kind of, sensors. 04:08 They can see, almost feel 04:10 or is that they feel or how does that work? 04:12 They detect the electronic signal 04:14 from a prey item hidden under the sand. 04:16 Like the heartbeat of a conch, a lobster, or shrimp. 04:19 And if it's buried in the sand, 04:21 they blow the sand away 04:22 using a water jet through their mouth 04:24 and they catch the animal and move on. 04:26 So they can actually sense this 04:28 if there's animal under the sand? 04:30 Absolutely. That is absolutely amazing. 04:33 So what else have you got here? 04:35 I noticed that this back is, kind of, 04:37 almost like an alligator, you know, it's a ridge like. 04:40 They got some spines on along their back, in fact, the spine, 04:44 this tail is bitten off by a shark. Yeah, okay. 04:46 So the spines on their back are also for defense. Okay. 04:49 And that the big spine on the tail 04:51 is just one these thorny spines. 04:53 They got two or three lines on them here, 04:55 but otherwise you see the skin is very smooth. 04:58 It's just as smooth as it can be, it's slippery too. 05:01 It is. I can't keep a hold of them. 05:03 And of course, they're dark on the back for camouflage, 05:05 like, grayish brown, 05:07 so when you're looking down on them, you know, 05:08 they're kind of camouflaged against the background. Yeah. 05:11 And then like I said, they use sand sometimes 05:13 to smuggle themselves on the sandy bottom like this. 05:15 And the under side of it is almost just really white. 05:19 It is white. Like all animals in the sea. 05:22 The belly will be white. 05:23 But the males and females live here together. 05:26 They pop over the different pints in shallow water around 05:30 not far away from the sandbar 05:32 and the babies are perfectly formed 05:34 miniature of the adults they're like replicas. 05:36 Just replicas. They're miniature. 05:38 Well, you know, in the open ocean, 05:40 they're lots of guys who like to eat those baby rays 05:42 so they gotta be able to leave, you know. Wow. 05:45 Dr. Guy, what a blessing it's been for you to be with us. 05:47 There it goes. Yep. 05:49 Kids, this has been fantastic, hasn't it? 05:51 Remember, nature is God's second work, 05:53 so you gotta get out there and take a look. 05:55 Let's go find some more of those stingrays. 05:57 They're awesome. Yeah, they are. 06:56 It's learning time. It's learning time! 06:58 Hey, thanks for joining us today. 07:00 I'm glad that you joined us. 07:02 And I think we're gonna have some fun with some eggs. 07:04 Have you ever seen an egg? Yes. Okay. 07:06 I don't think you've ever seen eggs like we have eggs today. 07:09 And I've got some helpers right here. Now let's see. 07:11 Now, Trinity, let me ask you a question. 07:14 What is your favorite subject in school? 07:16 Math. Math. Why math? 07:18 Because it makes my mind start working and it's easy for me. 07:21 Wow. That's cool, isn't it? 07:23 That's good for your mind, I think so. 07:25 And we've got Allison over here. 07:27 Now, Allison, do you play an instrument? 07:30 Yes, I play the piano and the violin. 07:32 Piano and violin, I love both of those. 07:34 That's nice to be able to play an instrument. 07:36 Now we have Zach way over there. 07:38 Now, Zach, what is your favorite thing to do? 07:41 Swimming. Swimming. 07:42 And where do you like to swim? 07:44 In pools. In a pool. 07:45 Hey, that's refreshing, isn't it? 07:47 Hey, let's get our helpers to come up here. 07:49 Let's find out what we've got. 07:50 First of all what are we gonna wear, 07:51 what are we gonna put on? Safety glasses. 07:54 We're gonna put on the safety glasses, 07:56 so go ahead and get a pair of safety glasses. 07:58 We're gonna put those on today, 07:59 because we're using some what, chemicals, right? 08:03 You want to get chemicals in your eyes? 08:04 No. Not a good idea, okay. 08:06 What are those things in front of us, guys? 08:08 Eggs. They're eggs, that's right. 08:11 Now eggs are interesting because they come from, 08:13 where do they come from? 08:15 Chickens. They come from chickens. 08:16 Now what I have right here is I've got an egg. 08:18 Now this one here has a shell on it. 08:20 Now why do eggs have to have shells? 08:22 What do you think? So they won't break. 08:23 So they won't break, because somebody sits on the eggs. 08:26 Who sits on an egg? The chicken. 08:27 The mom. The chicken does. 08:29 Well, what we're gonna do here today is, 08:30 I'm gonna take this egg and it's a raw egg, right? 08:33 And it's very hard 08:34 and the outside coating of this egg is very hard 08:36 and it's calcium carbonate and it's very hard, 08:39 in fact, we find calcium in our bones. 08:41 Don't we? In our body. 08:43 Now what I have right here, this is, can you read that. 08:45 What is that? Vinegar. 08:47 It's vinegar, that's interesting. 08:48 Hey, do you eat acid? Yes. 08:51 Well, you know-- you know, 08:52 we eat acid if we're having some vinegar 08:54 and sometimes we put that on our food. 08:55 What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna pour some vinegar 08:57 right inside of this beaker and I've got my egg in here 09:01 and let's just watch it just for a second right here 09:04 and let's find out what happens right here, hmm. 09:07 What--what do you see happening? 09:10 Well, look at the egg, very, very close, 09:12 what do you see coming out of the egg? 09:14 Bubbles. Bubbles! 09:15 That's interesting to me. 09:17 We're having a little reaction right here actually. 09:19 Because the vinegar is reacting with the calcium carbonate 09:24 and it's just bubbling away. 09:26 In other words, we're trying to get-- 09:28 it's actually getting rid of some of that calcium carbonate. 09:31 Would that be good if the egg got very, very weak? 09:34 No. No. 09:35 Because what would happen when the chicken sat on it? 09:37 It breaks. It'd break not a good idea. 09:39 So what we've done right here with this experiment 09:41 and let's see, let me move this over here 09:43 so that you can have an egg too, okay. 09:44 What I want you to do is, I want you to--well, 09:46 can you pick up this egg for me, that one right there? 09:49 Now it's interesting because if we look at this egg-- 09:51 let me turn it, so it's just-- no go ahead you can hold it. 09:54 Look at there, can you see that we got kind of a clear section 09:56 and we have kind of a white section? 09:59 What's happening is that, that vinegar is taking 10:01 that calcium off of the egg 10:03 and we can kind of see down in through it. 10:04 Why don't you pick up this one right here, Zachary? 10:07 And look at that one right here, in fact, 10:08 what does it feel like Zach? Jello. 10:10 Feels like jello, that's right. 10:12 Because it's not hard anywhere. How about the last one? 10:14 This has been 7 days 10:16 and we've put those eggs in and this is like day 1, 10:19 this is like day 3 and this is like day 7. 10:21 Isn't that cool? Hey, hold that up so we can all see that. 10:24 Can you see something that looks kind of yellowish in the center? 10:27 Yes. Yes. What do you suppose that is? 10:30 Yolk. The yolk. 10:32 That's absolutely right. It's a yolk. 10:34 Hey, let's look at that egg right here, that's cool, 10:36 that is the yolk, isn't it? 10:38 Now look at this egg. 10:39 Now does it look bigger than that one? 10:41 Yes. It looks bigger. 10:42 Because you know what happened? 10:44 That vinegar it goes past, 10:45 what we call a permeable membrane 10:48 and it's soaking up the vinegar inside. 10:50 Isn't that cool? Yes. 10:51 Now you know what I'm gonna do next? 10:53 What I'm gonna do is, I'm gonna break this open, 10:54 because its rubber now, isn't it? 10:56 It's really rubbery, look how rubbery that is. 10:58 We're gonna try to open that just like this 11:00 and see what happens if we--ooh, wow, 11:03 it spilt--wha-- what's this in my hand? 11:05 Membrane. It's a membrane. 11:07 It's a membrane underneath that shell 11:09 because we don't have a shell anymore. 11:11 Isn't that interesting? Yes. 11:13 Now I wonder why eggs have to be so strong. 11:17 So the chicken could sit on them. That's exactly right. 11:20 You know, there are foods that can help us to be strong. 11:23 You know, our bodies need to be strong, don't they? 11:25 Yes. Yes. 11:26 Now our bones have calcium in our bones 11:28 and they need to be strong, don't they? 11:30 Yes. That's right. 11:31 But you know, sometimes we drink things 11:33 and we eat things that can deplete 11:34 calcium out of our body like carbonated drinks 11:37 and that's not good to have a lot of those, is it? 11:40 No. Not a good idea. 11:41 But you know, God put enough calcium in the egg 11:44 till it's very, very strong. 11:45 He put calcium in our body so that we can grow 11:47 and we can be strong too. 11:49 And you know, that is good idea, isn't it? 11:52 God thought of everything that we need and the animals need. 11:55 You know, every time we learn more about science, 11:58 we learn more about our creator, God. 12:10 Well, we meet at last. 12:13 It's, um, Esther, I believe? 12:16 Yes, and you are? 12:19 I, am Princess Chloe and this is Princess Phoebe. 12:23 Well, it's very nice to meet you both. 12:25 I'm so glad that I came to the King's Gardens today. 12:28 Well, I've been in the King's Gardens 12:30 and the palace for a very long time. 12:34 And I know what goes on around here. 12:36 And I know that most people do not have a personal eunuch. 12:41 Well, I-- Esther, Esther-- 12:44 Oh, Abigail! 12:46 I heard you were summoned by the king. 12:47 What happened? Are you okay? 12:49 No, it was horrible. He didn't even look at me. 12:51 As soon as he saw me, he dismissed me. 12:54 Oh... What am I gonna do? 12:55 Oh, Abigail, I'm so sorry. Abigail. 12:58 Esther, I believe Hegai is here to see you. 13:02 Esther, the king has summoned you. 13:04 We must leave for the royal dressing room immediately. 13:07 Oh, my God. 13:11 Meet me back in my quarters. 13:22 Esther, look at this beautiful gown. 13:27 This green would be really nice with your eyes. 13:31 It, it's beautif-- it's beautiful. 13:34 You don't like it too well, I can see. 13:36 Oh, this one, 13:38 this one has silver on it and did you see? 13:43 It has a beautiful sleeve, it just flows. 13:47 That would be so pretty. Hegai. 13:51 You've been around palace life for so long 13:54 and you've seen many maidens go before the king. 13:59 I don't know what the king would like. 14:02 I--I don't know what he'd want me to wear. 14:05 Would you be so kind as a choose for me, Hegai? 14:10 Esther, I have hoped for so long 14:14 that you would allow me to make your choice for you. 14:18 I would be glad to. 14:19 Hegai, this one, this is beautiful. 14:21 No, no. Did you see those-- 14:23 Not that. That's beautiful sleeves. 14:24 Another. Another? 14:28 This one. I have reviewed the dresses. 14:30 The red one, please. The red, ooh-- 14:34 One with the gold. The red and gold one. 14:35 Oh, Hegai, it's beautiful. That dress is perfect. 14:41 In that, you will sparkle like the stars in the heavens 14:45 and be so beautiful, 14:47 the king will not be able to take his eyes off you. 14:51 I know what will impress the king. 14:53 Oh, that's true. This is beautiful. 14:56 This is the one for you. 14:58 Thank you Hegai. I just love it. 15:01 Oh, oh, and also we can have some jewel? 15:06 No, no. No? 15:08 Well, I have something just right. 15:11 Here this one, this one, this one. 15:16 Oh-- Choose another. 15:29 Your Majesty, in our search for another queen, 15:35 another maiden has arrived to bring before you. 15:39 How much more of this can I take? 15:42 But one more woman. No more women. 15:46 You bring me beautiful women, 15:48 they're painted with enough paint to redo my entire palace. 15:54 This one can sing. Sing! 15:57 The last one that you said could sing, 16:00 scared the cattle on the hillside. 16:03 But this one can sing well. 16:06 Oh, no, no, no, I'm weary, I'm weary of this. 16:12 One more. 16:14 One more, one more, one more, one more. 16:21 Esther from the king's harem enters. 16:39 Yes, come forward. 16:48 Where have you been hiding her? 16:51 Why have I not seen her before? 16:57 Your Majesty, there's a time for every purpose under the heavens. 17:02 A time to meet and a time to depart. 17:04 A time to speak and a time to be silent. 17:10 Can it be? 17:12 Can it be true that she not only has beauty, 17:16 but wisdom as well? 17:20 You're not like the others. 17:23 There is a difference to this one. 17:26 She speaks and I can understand. 17:31 It's not like a babbling brook. 17:36 Truly, you are a quality maiden. 17:40 There is none like you 17:42 in all the land for we have searched. 17:47 And you are truly beautiful. 17:49 Oh, your Majesty, I'm unworthy of such kindness. 17:54 This is the very quality 17:56 that we have searched for, for a queen. 18:01 Haman, bring me the queen's crown. 18:06 Yes, your Majesty, with pleasure. 18:12 From this day forward, throughout all of my kingdom, 18:17 you shall be known as Queen Esther. 18:23 Bow down and pay homage to Queen Esther. 18:28 Long live Queen Esther. Long live Queen Esther. 18:33 Now, prepare the banquet hall for we shall have a feast 18:37 for Queen Esther and everyone is invited. 18:59 My God is so great So strong and so mighty 19:03 There's nothing my God cannot do, for you 19:06 My God is so great So strong and so mighty 19:10 There's nothing my God cannot do, for you 19:13 The mountains are His The rivers are His 19:17 The stars are His handiworks, too 19:20 My God is so great So strong and so mighty 19:24 There's nothing my God cannot do, for you 19:41 The mountains are His The rivers are His 19:44 The stars are His handiworks, too 19:48 My God is so great So strong and so mighty 19:51 There's nothing my God cannot do, for you 20:02 Hi, boys and girls, 20:03 it's time for Miss Brenda's Book of the Day. 20:07 And today's book is called "Miss Brenda's Bedtime Stories." 20:11 And that's right, this book is by Miss Brenda. 20:14 And it's not just my stories, boys and girls, 20:17 it's full of stories from best selling authors 20:19 that I've invited to be part of the book project. 20:22 So when you get inside, you will see an author page 20:24 and you'll see all the different authors that are part, 20:27 I have contributed to this particular book. 20:29 This one is Volume 1 and I can tell you 20:32 that it's full of beautiful colored pictures. 20:35 I wanted to show you, look at how we've got 20:37 "forgotten lunch," and "help, save me," 20:40 "snakes alive," almost perfect picture, 20:42 fan mailed letters, so many stories, boys and girls, 20:46 that you're gonna love and in fact, 20:48 there's one story in here 20:49 I can't wait for you to read about 20:51 and I think it's gonna be one of your favorite, 20:53 I know it's mine. 20:55 This one is about Maxwell, the Kids' Time dog. 20:58 And I really think you're gonna love it, 21:00 because the secret of why Maxwell is so sleepy-- 21:03 look at him, he's sleeping right there already. 21:05 I just started the program and he's sound asleep. 21:08 Look at that. 21:10 But the secret of why Maxwell 21:12 is such a sleepy dog is in this story. 21:14 It's in Volume 1 of Miss Brenda's Bedtime Stories. 21:18 Miss.
