00:01 It's almost time for Kids Time. We're gonna be late.
00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:08 Looking for a friend like Jesus
00:11 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so
00:20 Let's tell them that He loves us so
00:24 Kids Time, Kids Time, Kids Time
00:31 Hi, boys and girls.
00:32 Have you ever noticed that in the Bible,
00:34 God sometimes asked people to do some very strange things?
00:38 Now some were little things and some were big things,
00:41 but often they were the sort of things that make you go.
00:44 Umm! I wonder why?
00:47 I think it's important to figure out
00:49 why those stories were in the Bible, don't you?
00:51 Because God always has a good reason
00:53 for everything He does.
00:55 And in our Bible story today, the Prophet Elisha,
00:58 told a man to do a very strange thing.
01:00 No, it wasn't a big thing, but it was a bit strange.
01:04 It just didn't make any sense
01:06 and doing it would even be a little embarrassing.
01:09 He was a very important man
01:11 and he didn't want to do anything
01:12 that was embarrassing.
01:14 He almost didn't do it
01:16 and that could have cost him his life.
01:19 Sometimes God tests us with small things
01:22 to let us know that may be we need to trust Him more.
01:25 Why don't you think about that today
01:27 as you watch our Bible story, okay?
01:29 Right now, it's time for our Nature Time.
01:40 Welcome to Nature Time.
01:41 We're at Binder Park Zoo in, Battle Creek, Michigan.
01:44 And we've got this neat animal that
01:46 I've never even heard before kids,
01:48 and that's why we have Baggy.
01:50 Baggy, I'm glad, you're the expert on this animal.
01:52 Yeah, thanks for coming out.
01:53 So now what do we have?
01:55 This is what you called a red river hog.
01:59 Yes, a red river hog.
02:00 So why do they call it a red river hog?
02:01 It looks kind of red, is that why? Yes.
02:03 Okay, now tell me a little bit about this red river hog.
02:06 What does it do? Where does it live?
02:09 It lives in Western Central Africa.
02:11 They spend most of the day lying in a burrow,
02:13 that they construct themselves out of mud.
02:16 So it's like a little, they dig away burrow hole.
02:20 It's a big dig undergrounds. Okay.
02:21 Usually with mud and other plants around it.
02:25 Is that, is that because when they dig down,
02:26 they stay cool that way?
02:27 Yes, they stay cool.
02:28 Okay, and they're, and they're from Africa.
02:30 Where about in Africa? Western Central Africa.
02:33 Okay, now they've got this funny looking thing
02:36 coming out of their ears, what's that called?
02:38 They're called ear tassels and actually they puff them out,
02:41 when they're threatened,
02:43 so that they look bigger to scare off predators.
02:45 Wow! Isn't God amazing, kids?
02:47 He's always doing something to help these animals.
02:50 Now, you've got two of them here in the zoo
02:53 and I heard that these are new to the zoo.
02:57 Yes, their names are Harley and Squeaky.
02:59 Harley and Squeaky, and they've been here
03:00 for a little bit over a year,
03:02 but we had to raise the money to build their exhibit.
03:04 Okay, and I see that, Binder Park Zoo,
03:09 which is amazing to me.
03:11 There's only like you say,
03:12 "Ten zoos like this in the United States
03:14 that are privately owned."
03:15 Yes, we're non-profit organization,
03:17 so we need to raise the money to build new exhibits
03:20 and get new animals.
03:21 So we have a lot of very generous donors, yeah.
03:24 The money that we raise from our admissions
03:27 and our concessions are actually
03:28 used to feed the animals and to pay the staff,
03:31 so that they get the proper care.
03:33 Well, that's so cool.
03:34 Now I see it right now, it looks like,
03:36 it's burying, it looks like,
03:37 they-- You've got this electric fence down there.
03:40 It looks like they're kind of burrowing the ground,
03:41 they like to burrow or what?
03:42 They do, they'd use their really strong noses
03:45 to dig up roots. Okay.
03:46 And to find insects and stuff,
03:47 and that's why the wire is there,
03:49 so that they can't dig out underneath the fence.
03:52 Okay, now do they have any predators?
03:55 I mean, they look kind of small, but I don't think,
03:57 I'd want to tangle with one of those kids.
03:59 Yes, they have some predators, lions. Okay.
04:02 Spotted hyenas, leopards,
04:04 but their piglets are pretty small,
04:06 so they have more predators.
04:08 The same ones and kind of a python too.
04:11 Even a python, a snake.
04:13 Wow! But that's only the little one--
04:15 Right, right--
04:16 Okay, and how many little ones do they have?
04:17 They have between one and six, typically four.
04:19 Okay, typically four and out of that,
04:22 you don't know for sure, maybe you know,
04:24 I don't, I certainly don't know,
04:25 like 50%, it seem like in the wild,
04:28 less than half a little ones always live.
04:30 Yeah. It's about right.
04:31 Yeah, 'cause of those predators
04:32 and then humans are also predators,
04:34 but, you know, the development
04:36 and the deforestation.
04:38 Oh, I have another question.
04:40 I'm watching him run around here
04:41 and do they like running around
04:45 more the day light or at night?
04:46 They come out more at night.
04:48 Now why would that be, do you know
04:49 or do they find more animals at night?
04:51 It's cooler at night and-- So they don't like being hot.
04:56 Right. Okay, okay.
04:58 Now you said that if a lion was going
05:03 after one of these red river hogs,
05:06 if they got backed up into a corner
05:08 and has some tusks.
05:09 It has huge tusk that they would use to defend itself.
05:12 A piglet would play dead,
05:14 kind of like opossum does. Okay.
05:15 'Cause they're so small and then once they get older,
05:18 they would run away or if they're backed into a corner
05:20 then they would, you know--
05:22 They're gonna fight. Yeah.
05:23 And so, kids, I don't think you'd ever want to tussle
05:25 with one of these red river hogs.
05:28 I think that they need these little things.
05:29 Now, can they see very well? Yes, they can see really well,
05:31 but obviously they use their ears a lot.
05:34 So what can they see better, hear better, or smell better?
05:38 They can smell better. They can smell better.
05:40 I noticed that, all right, kids, it was neat.
05:42 They threw some nuts out.
05:44 What kind of nuts were they eating?
05:45 We gave them walnuts and pecans
05:47 and some almonds with all with the shell on it.
05:51 They're like their own personal nutcracker.
05:53 All right, and I was,
05:54 I heard them cracking those nuts, that was amazing.
05:57 Well, we've got to go, Baggy,
05:59 but it's been a blessing out here.
06:01 You're a certainly an expert on this red river hogs.
06:03 I've learned a lot today. Nature's got second book.
06:06 Get out there and take a look.
06:08 Hey, Baggy, do you have some nuts? Sure.
06:11 I want to, I want to throw up though,
06:12 I want to watch them crunch those,
06:14 you can really hear them crunch.
06:15 Those are some neat animals, red river hogs.
06:19 Look at that, you can hear it.
06:32 I am so glad that our Father in heaven
06:36 Tells of His love in the Book He has given
06:40 Wonderful things in the Bible I see
06:44 This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me
06:48 I am so glad that Jesus loves me
06:52 Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me
06:56 I am so glad that Jesus loves me
07:00 Jesus loves even me
07:05 Though I forget Him and wander away
07:09 Still He doth love me whenever I stray
07:13 Back to His dear loving arms would I flee
07:17 When I remember that Jesus loves me
07:21 I am so glad that Jesus loves me
07:26 Jesus loves me Jesus loves me
07:30 I am so glad that Jesus loves me
07:34 Jesus loves even me
07:39 Oh, if there's only one song I can sing
07:43 When in His beauty I see the great King
07:47 This shall my song in eternity be
07:52 Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me
07:56 I am so glad that Jesus loves me
08:00 Jesus loves me Jesus loves me
08:04 I am so glad that Jesus loves me
08:09 Jesus loves even me
08:24 Welcome to Learning Time. I'm glad you joined us today.
08:26 It looks like, we're gonna have a lot of fun,
08:28 doesn't it? Yeah! Yeah!
08:30 Got some toys here and I'm gonna need some helpers,
08:33 and I am going to need Andy.
08:35 Andy, you have an interesting pet, don't you?
08:38 Yeah, I have a turtle. You've a turtle?
08:42 Wow, turtles are interesting pets, aren't they?
08:44 And we have, Hannah, down here.
08:45 Now, Hannah, you like to swim, don't you?
08:49 Yes, I do. Yeah, where do you swim?
08:52 I go to the awesome beach swim lessons.
08:56 Oh, beach swimming is awesome, isn't it?
08:59 Well, and then we have Lexy.
09:00 Now, Lexy, you'd like to be an animal,
09:03 wouldn't you? Yeah.
09:04 Well, what kind of an animal? Cat.
09:06 A cat, why a cat?
09:08 Because they're nice and fluffy and they hardly make any noise.
09:12 Wow, animals are special.
09:14 I want my helpers to come up here.
09:15 Let's stand right up here in front of the table.
09:18 Come right on up
09:19 and we've got some objects here behind you.
09:21 Let's check this out.
09:23 Here we go, just sit right on over there.
09:24 Here we go, and what kind of a thing is this?
09:26 A yoyo. Yoyo.
09:28 These are yoyos.
09:29 And here, Lexy, let me hang you one yoyo.
09:31 You wanna grab a yoyo behind you, Hannah.
09:33 And I've got one over here for you.
09:36 Now, if you take that little loop right here
09:38 and you put your finger through the loop.
09:39 Put, you can put a finger through the loop.
09:41 We might be able to see, if they can do a little yoyo.
09:44 You know, yoyos are interesting toys,
09:46 aren't they? Yeah.
09:48 Yeah, you all have, do you have toys like this at home?
09:50 No. Yes. Well, yoyo is interesting.
09:52 Now yoyo is probably the second oldest toy
09:55 that we know of, some people think.
09:57 The oldest toy probably is a doll.
10:00 Anybody have a doll at home?
10:02 Yeah, well the yoyo is probably the second oldest toy.
10:05 They date way, way back to a longtime ago.
10:08 Why don't you see, if we can do the yoyo.
10:10 If you throw it down like this, it goes down and it comes up.
10:12 You want to see, if you can do that. Yeah.
10:14 Okay, go ahead, show us how you can do the yoyo?
10:16 Down and up and up and down, and down.
10:20 Well, they're hard to do sometimes, aren't they?
10:23 But, you know, a yoyo goes down and then it comes up,
10:26 if you kind of jerk it or pull it up.
10:28 You know, that kind of reminds me of sometimes,
10:30 you know, sometimes you and I might feel down, right?
10:33 Might feel kind of like sad
10:35 and then some other times you might feel,
10:36 you know, little more cherry, that's kind of interesting,
10:39 but that's the way life is sometimes, isn't it?
10:41 But, you know what?
10:43 I've got something here that we're gonna try.
10:45 Let's try a yoyo like you've never seen before.
10:48 Wow! So it look like a yoyo?
10:50 No! Well, it's really not a yoyo,
10:52 but it's this bigger wheel right here.
10:54 Now, what's interesting is, if I pull
10:57 and I have a string on here, you can see it.
10:59 Now if I pull on this string, if I pull the string his way,
11:04 what direction is that going to go?
11:07 If I pull it this way, what do you think? That way.
11:11 Okay, if I pull on the string this way,
11:13 the yoyo ought to go this way, shouldn't it? Yeah.
11:16 Okay, well, here we go.
11:17 And I'm gonna pull only that way,
11:19 check this out, and I'm gonna pull it,
11:21 here we go, here we go,
11:22 let's get this thing going right here,
11:24 and I'm pulling on it, which way is it going? That way.
11:27 It wants to go the opposite way,
11:30 but you know, what happens if I lower
11:32 where the string is being attached to the center,
11:36 it can go in opposite way. Look at that.
11:39 So it can go this way, if I high,
11:41 if I make this a lot higher, then it goes away from me,
11:44 isn't that interesting? Yeah.
11:46 Or we could walk the dog with it.
11:48 You know, if you walk a dog with a yoyo,
11:50 that means, a yoyo just kind of walks right along with you.
11:53 If I can find that, if I can find that right angle
11:57 and I pull, it just wants to walk with me.
12:00 Look at there, it just wants to walk
12:02 just right with me, isn't that cool? Yeah.
12:05 So it really depends on where the attachment is,
12:09 of our string, and I can pull it,
12:11 then it can come back and I can pull it this way
12:14 and it can go away from me, but, you know,
12:16 life is like that, isn't it?
12:18 Sometimes we have ups when we're feeling very good,
12:21 sometimes we can have downs and we don't feel very good.
12:24 But, you know what, it doesn't matter what you and I feel.
12:28 It doesn't matter if we feel up or down?
12:30 No! No! You know,
12:32 we can't trust our feelings, can we? No.
12:34 We really can't trust our feelings.
12:35 You know, the Bible says that,
12:37 "You and I, ought to what, trust in whom?"
12:40 God! We trust in the word of God,
12:43 because our feelings sometimes are just like yoyos.
12:46 Sometimes we might feel down
12:48 and the sometimes we might feel up,
12:50 but we can't trust our feelings.
12:51 We have to trust in whom?
12:53 God! God! We have to trust in God.
12:56 And that's exactly what I want to do.
12:59 Is that what you want to do too?
13:00 Yeah. Yeah, me too.
13:03 And remember, when we learn about science,
13:06 we learn more about our Creator, God.
13:22 Yes, I can't. What is this?
13:26 What, what, what is this, some kind of trick.
13:32 What, what does the King of Syria think I am?
13:36 Some kind of God.
13:38 Does he think that I can kill,
13:39 that I can make a life, that I can heal,
13:42 Captain Namaan of leprosy?
13:46 Oh, he want this war.
13:49 Oh, king of all Israel, the servant of, Elisha,
13:52 request permission to enter.
13:54 I will allow it, let him in.
14:01 Arise, why are you here?
14:05 Oh, king, Elisha, has sent me with a message.
14:09 He says, "Why have you torn your garments?
14:12 Please send Captain Namaan to me
14:14 and then he will know that
14:15 there is a prophet of God in Israel."
14:19 Not a bad idea.
14:22 Send the captain to, Elisha, to be healed.
14:25 He's in the corridor, take him,
14:26 he's been out there, and get out now.
14:43 Elisha says, "That if you wish to be cleaned,
14:46 you must bath yourself in the Jordan River, seven times."
14:51 The Jordan, the Jordan River? What?
14:56 What does he think I am to bath
14:57 in that dirty Jordan River?
14:59 I'm not gonna wash in that muddy Jordan River.
15:02 All the waters of Damascus are finer than the rivers.
15:05 That muddy, I'm not gonna do that.
15:08 But, Captain Namaan, if he had asked you to do
15:10 some hard and difficult thing, would you not have done it?
15:12 This is such a simple thing, why not just do it?
15:15 Yeah, but to bath in that dirty river,
15:17 I'm the captain of the Syrian army.
15:23 Yet your words ring with counseling.
15:27 All right, let's go to the Jordan.
15:37 Seven times in this filthy river.
15:41 Oh, I hate this water!
15:52 All the rivers of, Damascus, are much nicer than this.
15:57 Filthy Jordan! He said,
15:59 "It must be the River Jordan."
16:40 Are you sure, that's what the prophet said?
16:44 That if you wish to cleaned,
16:46 you must bath yourself in the Jordan River seven times.
16:51 That was only six times, the prophet said, "Seven."
16:54 You must go into one more time.
17:16 It's gone, there it go. Praise the Lord of Israel.
17:23 Now, we can go home. Sure.
17:25 Let's go home. Yes, yes, yeah, let's go.
17:42 He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be
17:50 It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars
17:54 The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
17:57 How loving and patient He must be
18:01 He's still working on me
18:05 There really ought to be a sign upon the heart
18:09 Don't judge her yet, there's an unfinished part
18:13 But I'll be perfect just according to His plan
18:17 Fashioned by the Master's loving hands
18:21 He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be
18:28 It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars
18:32 The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
18:36 How loving and patient He must be
18:40 He's still working on me
18:44 The mirror of His Word reflections that I see
18:48 Make me wonder why He never gave up on me
18:52 He loves me as I am and helps me when I pray
18:56 Remember He's the Potter I'm the clay
19:00 He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be
19:07 It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars
19:11 The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
19:15 How loving and patient He must be
19:19 He's still working on me
19:34 Hi, boys and girls.
19:35 Maxwell and I are so glad you joined us for Sharing Time.
19:39 And right now it's time
19:40 for Miss Brenda's, Book of the Day.
19:44 And today's book is called
19:46 "Smoky the Ugliest Cat in the World."
19:48 And it's written by a very incredible author
19:50 and a very good friend of Miss Brenda's, Joe Wheeler.
19:54 Now this book has all about, Smoky the cat.
19:57 And it said, "Burned lmost beyond recognition,
20:00 a cat named, Smoky,
20:01 with an iron will to live will blaze into your heart."
20:05 In another precious story, this physician takes pity
20:09 on a badly wounded kitten and recaptures a lost love.
20:13 This book, boys and girls
20:15 is surely gonna touch your heart.
20:17 "Smoky the Ugliest Cat in the World."
20:20 You won't want to miss it.
20:22 Well, I have some wonderful letters to share with you today.
20:25 I love receiving your letters
20:26 and I love especially when you send me pictures,
20:29 so I can see what you look like and I also like,
20:32 like it, when you tell me how you share, Jesus.
20:35 Because, boys and girls, when I read your letters
20:37 about how you share, Jesus.
20:39 That gives, boys and girls, all around the world
20:41 ideas of what they can do too, so it's a wonderful thing.
20:44 I'm gonna start today with a letter from,
20:47 South Carolina, in the United States,
20:49 and it's from Emonty,
20:51 and let's see what Emonty has to say.
20:52 It says, "Dear, Miss Brenda, I love watching your show.
20:55 By the way, my name is Emonty.
20:57 And I really thank that all you talk about is just genius."
21:01 Well, thank you.
21:02 It says, "I would really like for you
21:04 to send me some of your activity books
21:06 and I would love the Kids Club lessons.
21:09 So please, send them to me right away
21:11 as I'm most eager, love, Emonty.
21:14 I'll be waiting, PS." He says, "I'll be waiting."
21:17 Well, thank you, Emonty, we'll get those Bible studies
21:19 out to you right away
21:21 and I know that that you'll enjoy them,
21:22 that'll be a blessing to you.
21:24 I'll just set this right over here.
21:26 Okay, we have another-- Let me read an email.
21:29 I love your emails too.
21:30 This one, it's from, Jonathan.
21:33 He says, "Hi, Miss Brenda, my name is, Jonathan,
21:36 and I'm from the Philippines."
21:37 It says, "I was once a member of Kids Time,
21:39 when I was eight-years-old and now I'm 16.
21:43 And I'm happy to say,
21:44 I have completed all your Bible lessons
21:47 and I was able to receive
21:48 the most beautiful Bible from you.
21:50 And I'm most happy, I bring it with me
21:52 to church every Sabbath."
21:54 It said, "Thanks as well for the special gifts
21:57 that you've included in my mail each time
21:59 I got a letter from you.
22:00 Wow! Did I love them?"
22:02 And it said, "And of course
22:03 I also love to share them with my friends.
22:06 My love for Kids Time is as much now
22:09 as it was then and I love, Jesus.
22:11 And I'm hoping to see more Kids Time programs
22:14 in the future, love, Jonathan."
22:16 Well, Jonathan, I'm so glad.
22:17 You know, boys and girls, God's kids come in all ages.
22:20 We are never too old for Kids Times.
22:22 It doesn't matter whether if you're one-years old
22:24 or a 101, God loves you and He cares about you,
22:27 and this program is for you.
22:29 Okay, let's see, this is a wonderful email.
22:32 Let's read this letter here.
22:34 This is from, it says, South Africa.
22:35 Let's see where in South Africa it is.
22:39 I don't know.
22:40 Oh, I got a couple of pictures,
22:41 I love the pictures.
22:43 This one is a beautiful picture,
22:45 it says, "Dear Miss Brenda,
22:47 my name is Alzon and I'm from a little town in the,
22:51 Free State in South Africa, near Bloemfontein."
22:54 And I'm not sure, if I pronounced that correctly,
22:56 I'm sorry if I didn't.
22:58 It says, "I'm 11-years-old and I am in grade six
23:02 and I've got a younger sister and a little brother,
23:04 and we just love Kids Time.
23:06 Our favorite part is Learning Time.
23:08 And I watch Kids Time a lot with my grandmother,
23:11 she lives in Welham and she said,
23:15 and it's near, Johannesburg.
23:17 Will you please send me some Bible studies, love Alzon."
23:21 And Alzon, I'd be happy to send you some,
23:24 some Bible lessons.
23:25 And I would like you to remember that
23:28 as soon as you get those Bible lessons done,
23:31 send the quiz as right away those answer sheets back,
23:33 'cause we don't send you the next set of lessons
23:35 till we get those in the mail, okay?
23:37 So, oh, and there's another picture right here
23:40 of her sister, isn't that nice?
23:42 And Tarien, T-A-R-I-E-N.
23:45 I'm not sure if I said that correctly,
23:46 but that's her sister.
23:48 So thank you so much for that letter
23:50 and I love to hear from you.
23:51 Miss Brenda has actually been to Johannesburg.
23:53 I've been to South Africa several times,
23:56 and I love your country, it's beautiful there.
23:58 And you were so welcoming to me
24:00 and I had a wonderful time with you.
24:02 All right, this one is from Alameda, California.
24:07 And it says, let's see, "Dear Miss Brenda,
24:09 my name is Gethsemane.
24:11 Yes, just like the Garden of Eden,
24:13 that, Jesus, went to pray before the soldiers got Him.
24:16 I'm 11-years-old, but I'll be 12 soon.
24:18 And will you please send me
24:19 the Kids Club lessons, thank you.
24:21 I serve, Jesus, by teaching little kids about the Bible
24:24 and I would like you to pray for my two grandmothers.
24:27 One for her arm and bones,
24:29 and the other one for her bones and eternal life."
24:32 Well, that's the eternal life is most important, isn't it?
24:34 It says, "I will also like you to pray for me,
24:36 because I have dry skin and I know that
24:38 God will take care of all my dry skin and heal it.
24:41 Thank you very much, love Gethsemane."
24:43 And oh, Gethsemane,
24:45 I really appreciate your letter.
24:46 And I'm glad that you're taking
24:48 all your problems to, Jesus,
24:49 because, Jesus, does hear and answer.
24:51 So, boys and girls, let's pray
24:52 for Gethsemane's grandmothers, okay.
24:56 Let's see there's another one over here,
24:58 and this is from, Alvarado, Texas and it says--
25:03 Oh, he drew me a picture. It says, "I love Kids Time."
25:06 Isn't that cute? Look at that. I love that.
25:09 Okay, and it says, "Dear Miss Brenda,
25:11 I really like the science, the story, and the songs.
25:13 And I've an older brother, and a younger brother,
25:15 and sister that share, Jesus.
25:17 So I have prayer partners.
25:18 I pray with my friend, Emma, almost everyday
25:21 and I live in Texas."
25:22 And then they drew a picture of Miss Brenda.
25:24 Look at this, oh, isn't that sweet?
25:27 Boys and girls, you know,
25:28 I want to encourage you to keep sending your letters.
25:32 I want you to think about ways
25:33 that you can share, Jesus,
25:35 because there is lots of things you can do to share, Jesus.
25:37 Sometimes it's as simple
25:38 as just smiling at someone and saying,
25:41 "You know what, Jesus, loves you."
25:42 Or maybe smiling at someone and saying,
25:44 say, "I just want you to know, how special you are to Jesus."
25:49 You know, little simple things and acts of kindness
25:51 is wonderful ways to share, Jesus.
25:53 Write to me and tell me, okay.
25:55 Because, boys and girls, wherever you go,
25:56 whatever you do, it's Kids Time to share, Jesus.
26:23 Kids Time.
26:46 Kids Time. Kids Time. Kids Time.
26:49 Kids Time. Kids Time.
26:54 Kids Time.
