00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there,
00:07 Looking for a friend like Jesus. It's time to share
00:11 there's a world out there; let's tell them
00:14 that He loves us so. Let's tell them that He loves us so.
00:20 Kids Time, kids Time, kids Time.
00:25 Hi, boys and girls. I am so glad to be here with you
00:27 today, it's been a pretty busy month for me and I am
00:29 just so happy to sit here and just spend a
00:31 little time and talk with you for a moment and
00:33 you do know my favorite thing to talk about don't
00:36 you that's right it's Jesus. Do you know why I like
00:39 to talk about Jesus so much, it's because Jesus
00:42 saved my life by dying on the cross for me, he
00:45 is my hero and when someone saves your life you
00:49 can't help but love him and talk about him all the
00:51 time right. Well, I heard a story about a family up
00:54 in Canada whose house started on fire late in the
00:57 night just a few years ago and all their children
01:00 were upstairs sleeping sound a sleep. When the
01:03 fire started somewhere downstairs so it already
01:06 spread all over the house by the time the whole
01:07 family realized what danger they were in.
01:10 Now, I want to just show you, see this match isn't
01:14 it amazing how a tiny fire like this, it can grow so
01:18 big that it can burn down an entire house, ooh!
01:21 And a lot of smoke too. Now do you think that
01:26 mommy and daddy went running right off the door
01:27 to save their own lives of course not, all they
01:29 could think about was saving their children and
01:31 so up the stairs the father ran all the time thinking
01:34 for not even thinking about his own safety, he was
01:36 thinking about his precious children and every
01:39 family member was saved. Now, do you think the
01:42 family stood around when the father got upstairs
01:44 and said I wonder if we should you know leave
01:46 the house. No, they got out as fast as they could
01:50 and what a night that was as they stood out in the
01:53 snow and just watched their beloved home burned
01:55 to the ground. But they were thankful because
01:58 they were all safe and alive. Well, today we'll
02:01 hear a Bible story about a family who was saved
02:04 from a huge fire, only this fire didn't just burn up
02:07 one house it burned up an entire city and all the
02:11 people in it, only one man and two of his
02:14 daughters got out alive. We'll hear the whole story
02:17 from one of the daughters in just a little
02:18 bit, but right now it's time to go to
02:20 the garden with Ms. Emily.
02:36 Hi, boys and girls. I am here in my gardens at the
02:39 University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
02:42 And I am observing all of the birds that live in
02:45 my garden, do you hear the birds? They are so many
02:50 different kind of birds that live in my garden.
02:52 I like to there with my binoculars, I love to watch
02:55 the cardinals, the robins and my favorite bird
02:59 is a hummingbird. Did you know that the largest
03:02 bird is the ostrich, but do you think I have
03:05 ostriches in my garden, no, I do not have
03:08 ostriches but the smallest bird is called is the bee
03:12 hummingbird. I have a lot of hummingbirds that
03:14 live in my garden and there is a lot of things you
03:17 can do to attract birds to your garden. Birds like
03:20 to build their nests in big tall trees like you see
03:23 behind me and there is a couple of things that you
03:26 can do to help birds to build their nest. The first
03:28 thing that you can do is grab a mesh bag, normally
03:33 maybe you might get a bag of apples that come in
03:35 a mesh bag and then you can grab your favorite
03:38 pieces of yarn and put these in the bag and also
03:42 whenever you're drying your clothes go ahead and
03:44 grab the dryer lint that comes out, normally you
03:47 take this out before you dry your clothes and you
03:49 can put these all in a bag, close it up and then
03:53 hang it on a tree, this way the bird will be able
03:59 to come and get out all little pieces of yarn to
04:02 help it built its nest. Another thing that you can
04:06 do to attract birds to your garden is plant
04:08 special flowers. I love to plant flowers for
04:12 hummingbirds. Now, remember hummingbirds
04:14 are little birds and they flap their wings about
04:17 sixty times a second. Some of the flowers that you
04:21 want to plant should be red, hummingbirds love red
04:25 flowers. Here for example I have what is called a
04:29 Petunia, do you see how red this flower is, also
04:33 another thing that you want to look for is you
04:35 want flowers that are trumpet shaped, you can
04:39 see here that it has a long skinny point because
04:41 what hummingbirds do is they use their nose and
04:44 they get into the flower and drink all of the nectar.
04:48 Another one of my favorite plants to use is called
04:51 Nicotiana, you can see here that it's a pretty purple
04:54 color but hummingbirds still like it because of the
04:57 shape of the flower. See how long this part is?
05:01 And the last thing that you can boys and girls is
05:04 you can make your own bird feeder, just take a
05:08 half of an orange and clean out the insides,
05:11 tie strings on the ends and fill it with your very
05:16 favorite bird seeds. This ways birds have
05:20 something to eat all year long and just hang it in
05:23 your favorite tree may be outside of a kitchen
05:24 window or something. Well, boys and girls, I am
05:28 going to keep looking out for my favorite birds in
05:30 the garden but first I want to encourage you
05:32 to sow the seeds of God's love.
05:42 When I am afraid I will trust in you,
05:44 in God whose word I praise. In God I trust,
05:48 I will not be afraid, what can mortal man
05:50 do to me. Psalms 56:3 and 4.
06:21 When I am afraid I will trust in you
06:26 I will trust in you, I will trust in you
06:33 When I am afraid I will trust in you
06:38 In God whose word I praise.
06:44 When I am afraid I will trust in you
06:49 I will trust in you, I will trust in you
06:55 When I am afraid I will trust in you
07:00 In God whose word I praise.
07:06 In God whose word I trust, when I am afraid,
07:16 In God whose word I trust, In God whose
07:24 In God whose word I trust,
07:25 In God whose word I praise.
07:32 When I am afraid I will trust in you
07:36 I will trust in you, I will trust in you
07:43 When I am afraid I will trust in you
07:48 In God whose word I praise.
08:00 I trust you Lord, I really do.
08:16 Welcome to learning time I'm glad you joined us
08:19 today, now we got something special to show
08:21 you, now I have got two of my helpers over here.
08:24 I have got James, James thanks for helping us
08:26 today. Your welcome. And I've got Jonathan,
08:28 Jonathan, thank you. Your welcome.
08:30 Now, we've got some stuff on the table. Do you
08:32 like stuff? Yeah. Now, I will show you what I,
08:34 we got some science stuff right here, in fact
08:37 we might even have something that looks like
08:38 a toy. Now, lets look at James what does that look
08:41 like? An egg. Looks like an egg, but we're not
08:43 going to eat this, okay. Now, what I want to do is
08:46 James, I want to see if you can take this pencil
08:48 okay, it's a mechanical pencil. We're gonna try to
08:50 balance the egg, it has a little low tip right there
08:53 and maybe we could balance that right on
08:54 there. Okay, so balance it really good boys. Yeah.
08:57 Hang on, okay this is very difficult to do and
09:00 you have to have really good balance, I can't do
09:02 it at all James. But I'd be surprised if it's gonna
09:05 work today and it almost hit didn't it.
09:08 There is something kind of unique about this little
09:10 egg. This little egg has a little motor in it,
09:13 can you see some wheels right here, there's a
09:15 couple wheels in here, actually this little egg
09:18 happens be what we call a Gyroscope. Say it
09:22 gyroscope, now we can put this right in here
09:25 just like that James and lets see if we can get it
09:27 all tidy up. Hey, this a little button right there,
09:29 can, can you push that button for me. Can you
09:34 hear something. What do you hear? A motor.
09:38 A motor starting to run, can you hear the motor.
09:40 Yes. Which sounds like it's going to take off.
09:43 Wow, this little thing is spinning inside and it
09:46 makes the egg very, very stable and it turns
09:49 it into a gyroscope. Yeah, lets try it now James,
09:51 put it right there on the edge and I am going to
09:53 let this thing go. Wow! Look at that, James,
09:57 that's wonderful, how are you doing that?
09:59 Is that hard? No. It's not hard, because the
10:02 gyroscope makes the egg very, very stable,
10:06 that's what gyroscopes do, they stabilize things,
10:09 that is so cool and it's slowing down a little bit
10:12 isn't it. In fact are you shaking or is it vibrating.
10:15 It's vibrating. It's vibrating, it's going
10:18 really, really fast and it's gonna slow down.
10:20 What do you think is gonna happen when it
10:22 really slows down? It's gonna fall. You're gonna
10:24 fall? No. Well, what's gonna fall? The egg.
10:27 The egg's gonna fall, look at the gyro, here goes,
10:29 it's slowing down and it's starting to wobble
10:32 and wobble and it's getting, it is less stable
10:34 isn't it and pretty soon it's gonna fall to the
10:36 ground, but I hope I'll or maybe I can catch it.
10:39 Hang on now. And we got it. James, you've done
10:44 a good job. Thank you for helping us with that.
10:46 Now, we've got something else over here.
10:48 Jonathan, what does that look like? A bike tire.
10:51 Looks like a bike tire, I'll tell you what we're
10:53 gonna do. I'm going to have you stand over there
10:55 and I have a little rope and we're gonna hang this
10:57 tire on the rope because a bicycle tire can make a
11:01 gyroscope as well. So, If l let my hand go is the
11:04 wheel gonna stay up? Jonathan. No. Well, let's
11:07 try it. I'm gonna let my hand go. It crashes to the
11:10 floor, the wheel is not stable at all, but what we
11:13 can do then is to spin it, James just like the egg.
11:17 We got the gyroscope inside spinning and it
11:20 made it very clearly stable. So, lets get it really
11:23 spinning. Right, here we go Jonathan, look it up
11:27 right here and lets let it go and watch it. Wow,
11:31 you see that? It stabilized the wheel, but the wheel
11:34 is still spinning, but did it fall? No. Didn't fall at
11:38 all. Hey, you know what we can do, would you
11:39 like to make a toy out of this boys? Yeah. Okay,
11:42 grab a hold of the wheel, show us how you can
11:43 make a toy out of that wheel and he is gonna put
11:46 it right there. Wow, a gyroscope, a spinning
11:50 wheel and it's very stable isn't it? Not falling off
11:55 isn't it, at all, not at all, that's interesting. Now, as
11:58 it slows down you know what's gonna happen?
12:00 Yes. What's it gonna do? It's going to rotate.
12:03 It's gonna fall off from the table and we just
12:05 better put it on the floor so it doesn't fall
12:07 and break the floor. Well, we've got something
12:10 else on the table over here. Can you hand me
12:12 that instrument over here? Now, James what
12:14 does that look like? I don't know. It's something
12:21 that hardly anybody has ever seen, because a lot
12:23 of people never get a chance to see this thing,
12:26 this happens to be a gyroscope and these are in
12:29 airplanes. This came out of a military aircraft and
12:33 you know what it does? The pilot looks inside
12:36 here and sees that little window and it tells the
12:39 pilot what the plane is doing. 'Cause there's a
12:42 gyroscope inside and it tells the pilot if the plane
12:45 is going like this or it's going like or if the nose
12:49 of the aircraft is going down or the nose of
12:51 aircraft is climbing up higher. This reminds me
12:55 of something very important, you know what,
12:57 you know that God is the stabilizing force in
13:00 our lives. Yeah, he really is, so that we don't crash
13:03 in the floor, so that we can balance ourselves
13:06 with all the different things that we need to
13:07 do and we can become a very balanced person.
13:10 But God gives us that power just like spinning
13:13 these wheels and spinning this little gyroscope
13:16 inside the egg, gives all of these things a balance.
13:20 That's what I want in my life, I want balance,
13:23 I want a guiding forc and every time we learn
13:26 something new about science we're learning
13:29 something new about our creator God.
14:41 Oh a new face in the market. Yes. I haven't seen
14:44 you before, who might you be? Lot's daughter,
14:47 Abraham's nephew. Lot, the wealthy Lot.
14:51 Yes, a sister, one of the three people who escaped
14:54 from Sodom and Gomorrah. Tell me the
14:56 story what happen? Well, actually it was four that
14:59 originally escaped. Four, I must know the story
15:02 well. It's an important story, let me tell it to you.
15:05 You know Lot, he's my father, he used to always
15:08 be sitting at the gate of Sodom and Gomorrah,
15:11 looking for strangers to come because he had such
15:15 a hospitable heart. We've heard about the
15:17 hospitality of Lot, it's legendary. Yes, yes, he
15:21 always would bring people in and a lot of the reason
15:23 because he was trying to keep them safe, because
15:25 the city became so wicked. Oh! Sodom and Gomorrah
15:28 are wicked cities, that it was not safe to be on the
15:30 streets. Yes, and so one evening he saw two strangers
15:34 and he invited them to our home and after he been
15:38 in our home a while we realized they were no
15:39 ordinary strangers. Really? They were angels of
15:43 God. Angels in that house. From heaven, and they
15:46 gave us a serious warning, they said tonight
15:50 Sodom and Gomorrah is going to be destroyed by
15:53 God. Their wickedness had been too much and so.
15:58 You ran away from the city quickly? No, my
16:03 mother and father, they really wanted to see that
16:05 he get their family and many other people to come
16:08 with them. Well, that's reasonable. And so they
16:09 asked permission and this angel said yes, but you
16:12 must hurry. And so they went out into the city,
16:16 my father did, and talked to my sisters who were
16:19 already married and had their own families. Oh!
16:21 So, they came quickly with you? Oh, how I wish
16:24 that was true. But no, they were so sure that
16:28 Sodom and Gomorrah couldn't possibly be
16:30 destroyed and you know when you've been living
16:32 in wickedness for so long, you just don't have a
16:35 reference for God and for his, his warnings.
16:38 So, they stayed. And they didn't believe.
16:40 They just laughed at my father. Oh! That's so.
16:43 So my father came back to the house very sad.
16:46 And so then your father left quickly with you.
16:49 Well, not exactly, my mother just could hardly
16:52 bare the idea of leaving everything they had ever
16:55 worked for. They had a beautiful home and many
16:59 possessions and that she just could not bare the
17:03 thought of leaving her daughters in the city.
17:05 And so they kept stalling and trying to think of
17:07 another way but finally the angels literally took
17:12 them by the hand, took us by our hands and took
17:16 us out of the city and then they said, flee to the
17:20 mountains and they disappeared but before they
17:22 disappeared they said flee to the mountains and
17:26 don't look back, don't even look back and as we
17:31 were walking, my mother started complaining and
17:34 saying, I don't see why God has to take us away
17:37 from all of our things that we've ever known and
17:39 our families and everything, it just isn't fair.
17:43 You know what was really happening is her body
17:46 was with us, but her heart was still back with
17:51 all of her possessions and her family. And so we
17:55 were going along, come on mother we've got to
17:58 obey the angels and as we were going, she was
18:01 complaining again, and she said, she said, and
18:03 look back at my house. And then she turned into a
18:08 pillar of salt in that very position of looking back.
18:11 Why would God had told her not to do? God had
18:14 warned her not to look back and she disobeyed?
18:16 Yes. It's a lesson that we should all learn.
18:22 My sisters and I, that a lesson for us too, it is,
18:24 we will never forget it as long as we would live.
18:26 When God speaks and when you're dealing with
18:29 wickedness. We need to obey God. We need to
18:32 obey God. Oh! thank you for sharing that story.
18:36 Nice. And tell anybody that would listen to you
18:39 about this story because it's very important that
18:41 people learn to obey God and honor. Yes, thank
18:45 you for sharing that story with us. you know
18:48 sister we need to be more obedient to God too.
19:06 Jesus loves me! This I know,
19:12 For the Bible tells me so; Little ones to Him belong,
19:22 They are weak but He is strong.
19:27 Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
19:37 Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
19:57 It's time for Ms. Brenda's book of the day,
20:01 and today's book boys and girls is called The
20:03 Great Sleepy-Time Stew Rescue by Charles Mills.
20:07 Let's read, it says Alex Timmons is volunteering
20:10 in a Cyprus Hill soup kitchen trying to earn a
20:12 Pathfinder cooking honor. But his terrible-tasting
20:15 concoctions are anything but Award-winning.
20:18 When Ben Gabbert, an out-of-work chef, and his
20:20 family wandering in for lunch, Alex tries to get
20:22 some pointers. It becomes clear, however that the
20:25 Gabberts are homeless and hiding a very painful
20:29 secret. I wonder what that is, but I am not going to
20:32 tell you, your gonna have to read the book,
20:34 The Great Sleepy-Time Stew Rescue by Charles
20:37 Mills. And oh, that looks like a good book.
20:39 Well today we have a wonderful program for you
20:42 on sharing time, because I have a special guest
20:45 Matthew. Matthew, thank for joining us today.
20:48 And where are you from Matthew? Ringold,
20:50 Georgia. Ringold, Georgia. Well, before we hear
20:52 what you do to share Jesus, I have a special,
20:54 a couple of special friends on the phone, I have
20:57 Jodie and Jamie on the phone. Are you there?
21:00 Yes, yes. Well, hi Jodie and Jamie. Hi. I am so
21:04 glad to talk with you, let me ask you this Jamie.
21:07 What you do to share Jesus? I like to read Bible
21:10 stories and see the little kids come, my mom
21:13 babysits and tell them that Jesus loves you. Oh!
21:18 Jamie that's a wonderful thing to do. Let me ask
21:21 Jodie, Jodie what's your favorite part about Kids
21:24 time? I like to bring all my friends to my church,
21:31 you like to take friends to church, that's a good
21:34 way to share Jesus isn't it? Yes. Do you guys
21:37 watch kids time a lot? Yes. Yes. We always.
21:41 You always do, well I am so glad to talk with you
21:44 and I want to encourage you to keep sharing Jesus
21:46 will you? Yes, yes, alright bye bye now. Bye.
21:50 Bye. That was so nice wasn't it Matthew. And it's
21:54 always exciting to me when I here kids tell how
21:56 they share Jesus and that reminds me, you have
21:59 something you've done to share Jesus, what do
22:00 you do? I went Maga-booking and
22:05 Maga-booking. Maga-books are a cross between
22:07 a magazine and a book, they're kind of in between
22:10 and when you go Maga-booking you go door
22:13 to door selling the books that tell about Jesus.
22:16 Oh! you do and let me ask you this, is it ever hard
22:19 for you to meet strangers. Yeah, in fact a lot of
22:23 times, I really didn't want to go and knock on the
22:25 door, but I just, every door I went to I'd pray to
22:29 God that he would help me. Tell me, did you have
22:31 any really neat experiences from that? You met
22:35 anybody that really struck on your mind? Well,
22:37 I met one girl well she was I don't know about 18,
22:43 20 something like that, anyway, she brought a book
22:48 from us that was about is called, I think it's called
22:51 Peace Above The Storm and she said I could
22:54 definitely use that and so. So, If you really saw
22:57 that you think people that were purchasing the
22:59 books would really read them. Yeah, yeah, and
23:01 you know I want to ask you this, did you pray
23:03 about, about them afterwards to make sure
23:05 the Holy Spirit was just really working on their
23:07 heart. No, that's, I can give you, Ms. Brenda give
23:10 you a suggestion that when you do that next time
23:12 after you, after you place that special book about
23:15 God in their hands, when you live that home just
23:17 pray an extra special prayer and ask the Holy
23:19 Spirit to really talk to their heart. Okay. Okay.
23:22 That's good, well thank you, did you enjoy
23:24 sharing Jesus. Yeah, I kind of, I was nervous.
23:28 You were nervous? Yeah. But you know the more
23:30 you share Jesus the easier it's gonna get for you
23:32 isn't it? I'm proud of you Matthew, that's
23:34 wonderful and you know what other boys and
23:36 girls, when they're, I'm seeing you on this
23:37 program I bet you they're gonna look at this and
23:39 say you know what Matthew admits he was
23:41 nervous, but he still could do it. You know maybe
23:43 I could too. Isn't that right boys and girls,
23:45 that's a wonderful way to witness.
23:47 Well, I have a couple of letters here let's see,
23:49 let's read an email. I love your emails and love
23:51 your letters boys and girls. This one says dear
23:54 Ms. Brenda my name is Katelyn and I'm nine
23:56 years old and I'm in the third grade, I have a sister
23:58 named Emily who is seven, and is in first grade
24:01 and I have also have a brother Kiefer, who is five
24:03 and in pre-school. Says, we have a dog name
24:06 Rosie, some fish and three goats and we try to
24:09 watch Kids Time every Sabbath but sometimes
24:11 we miss it. I play th violin and piano and Emily
24:15 plays the trumpet. It says I have diabetes and
24:19 Celiac Sprue, the diabetes means I have to check
24:22 my blood sugar and get insulin and I have to
24:24 measure all my food out. The Celiac Sprue means
24:27 I can't eat food containing gluten, it's pretty
24:29 complicated but I guess I live with it just fine.
24:33 Please pray for me, love Katelyn, and Katelyn,
24:35 from Sandy, Oregon. Well, Thank you Katelyn,
24:37 for your email, I love hearing from you.
24:39 And you know we're just gonna say a little prayer
24:40 for Katelyn, for her health problems okay. And
24:43 Katelyn, you share Jesus everywhere you go.
24:45 When you go to the hospital just tell them the
24:47 doctors and the nurses, tell them Jesus loves you.
24:50 And you'd be surprised, the smile will get on your
24:52 face. This letter here's from Laura Williams and
24:56 she's from Montana. Let's see what Laura has to
24:58 say, and it says dear Ms. Brenda thanks for all the
25:01 Bible lessons. So, you already take them. They are
25:04 so nice, how do you find the time to correct all the
25:06 kids lessons, it says and you are so very quick.
25:09 Every time I send my lessons in they are back in
25:12 just a couple of days, wow. It says my business is
25:15 good, I started a library and bakery, do you know
25:19 want to call me again sometime. I love talking to
25:21 you when you called me last time. Here's my
25:23 phone number, well I got to go. Love, Laura
25:25 Williams. Well Laura, it was nice to talk to you
25:27 too. Sometimes boys and girls, when you send me
25:29 your phone numbers I might just surprise you
25:32 and call you, I was, I sometimes put letters on
25:35 my desk with your phone numbers on it, when
25:37 you have, when you send me and say I like to hear
25:38 from you and when I am doing my other work,
25:41 I kind of just sometimes pick up the phone and
25:42 give you a call and I have a lot of fun talking to
25:45 you out there. So, you never know Ms. Brenda is
25:47 gonna call you. And Laura I want to tell you just
25:50 keep on sharing Jesus will you?
25:52 Okay, now I see I have one here from a Malia
25:54 from Kapaa, Hawaii. Oh! Lets see, I've got a
25:56 picture and Malia you are so beautiful. You hold
25:59 that up, it says dear Ms. Brenda, my name is
26:01 Malia and I am eight years old and I love Kids
26:04 Time. I share Jesus by giving little Bibles to my
26:07 friends. Please sign me up for Kids club, I want to
26:10 learn more about Jesus. Love, Malia. Well thank
26:12 you Malia for that and your picture, I enjoy
26:14 hearing from you boys and girls, I love all your
26:17 cards and letters and I love how best of all how
26:19 you share Jesus and Matthew I love to having you
26:22 on the program today. It's good to be here and
26:24 keep sharing Jesus. Okay, boys and girls, that's all
26:27 the time we have today better until next time
26:29 remember that wherever you go whatever you do,
26:32 you're right, it's kids time to share Jesus.
