00:25 Mumm, Mumm Mumm! Good, Mumm!
00:27 Ah! Hi boys and girls this just a minute! 00:35 Ah! this is so good, forgive me, I just had to have 00:38 something to eat, I so hungry, I feel like I haven't had anything 00:41 to eat for days. 00:42 And this is so delicious! 00:44 I wish that I could actually share some of this with you. 00:46 You know food tastes really, really good, 00:49 when you're really, really hungry, doesn't it? 00:51 But you know you can imagine, there are some children they cry 00:54 if they even have to miss one meal. 00:55 But many children in the world go without food for days. 00:59 They are so hungry, it just breaks my heart 01:01 to think about it. 01:03 You know, sometimes, armies use food as a weapon? 01:06 Did you know that? 01:07 They don't actually throw loaves of bread at each other, 01:10 That would be pretty silly wouldn't it? 01:11 But what they do is send their troops to surround the whole 01:14 enemy city, and they camp out all around the city. 01:18 Pretty soon, the people inside the city, they run out of food. 01:22 If they try to leave, they're going to get killed. 01:25 If they stay there in the city, they're going to starve to death 01:27 So eventually, the people in the city give up, and the armies 01:31 outside the city, they march in and they take over 01:33 without even a fight. 01:35 That's what the Syrian army tried to do to Israel once. 01:38 Now the poor Israelites were surrounded by Syrians 01:41 and they were running out of food. 01:43 Now they looked out at the Syrians, and they could see 01:45 them eating at the big banquet tables, loaded with all 01:48 the most delicious food. 01:49 I'm telling you, they were hungry. 01:51 But what were they going to do? 01:53 They had to decide whether they were going to starve to death, 01:55 or fight to the death. 01:57 Well one day two lepers came inside the city. 02:00 Running in with their mouths full of food, just like mine was 02:03 Of course all the people wanted to know where they got that food 02:07 They want to know, hey wait a minute, is this a trick? 02:09 Well you're going to find out boys and girls when you 02:12 hear today's Bible story. 02:14 But first, Ranger Jim has something to show us. 02:24 Hi boys and girls, Ranger Jim welcoming you to Nature time. 02:26 We're glad you could join us today. 02:28 We're at the Chattanooga Audubon Society in 02:31 Chattanooga Tennessee. 02:32 And my friend, Ranger Dan, has something. 02:34 Dan what is this you have? 02:35 Well I have something very interesting Ranger Jim. 02:38 I've got some beaver stuff I brought along. 02:40 But I will tell you, this stuff is amazing. 02:42 This is beaver Poop. 02:44 Oh I see! 02:46 Yeah! and most people would say, "beaver poop?" 02:48 "You got poop in your hand?" 02:49 Well, actually, it is not like most poop. 02:53 This is has got wood in it, in fact it mostly, all it is wood. 02:56 That's what it looks like, it looks like it's just wood. 02:58 And a little fibers, and it got that, of course, 03:01 from eating trees, parts of trees. 03:03 I brought a little bit of a tree along with me as well. 03:06 You can see where it has been chewed on. 03:08 Cut it right off, they must have extremely sharp teeth. 03:11 Oh, they do and if you look along the edges, 03:13 you can see where it has kind of stripped all the bark 03:16 right off of it. 03:17 And that bark, inside it's a thing is called the inner bark. 03:21 The inner bark is amazing, it's got all kinds of nutrition. 03:24 It's like our vegetables. 03:25 Is it like spinach? 03:27 Like spinach, n cabbage n apples and all that. 03:31 It's our good stuff. 03:32 They really love it. 03:33 Tell me, after they finish eating this, what do they 03:36 do with the stick? 03:37 Well they will take this stick and they will use it to help 03:39 build their den. 03:40 They actually put this up to help control the 03:42 flow of the water, so they get a big ole body of water, 03:45 behind it, they really use just about everything that 03:48 there is in nature. 03:50 So they just, they just recycle it! 03:51 Their one of nature's best recycler's. 03:53 In the northern climate, where they have their homes, 03:57 you see the dome sticking up above the water, 03:59 and they also build, have these sticks and they are all 04:02 inner twined and fastened together, even a hungry wolf 04:05 can't dig through that. 04:06 That's absolutely right! 04:07 They're packed together with mud, and they will have like a 04:10 breathing tube coming up through the top of it. 04:12 Now I'll tell you, you can put your ear to that, 04:15 winter time, and you can hear them down inside. 04:18 All kind of activity. 04:19 They comfortable. 04:20 Maybe be 50 below zero out side, their comfortable 04:23 down there and boys and girls when they cut this off 04:26 they cut the branch and they bring it into the beaver pond 04:30 Then they carry it to the bottom and they take mud 04:32 and they cover this branch all with mud. 04:36 Then when they go to the grocery store, it may be 04:39 very, very cold, in some of the extreme northern climates, 04:42 then they simply go out into the pond, here's all the fresh 04:45 vegetables, they get it and bring it back inside the lodge, 04:48 and the young and the old, they all have... 04:50 It's like beaver's refrigerator. 04:52 A beaver's refrigerator. 04:53 Now here in Chattanooga, we have beavers but they don't build 04:56 a lot of those big dams, those big homes. 04:59 They have smaller dams and normally they have 05:02 bank dwellings, they live inside the bank. 05:05 They live in the bank as apposed to... well 05:09 I would think that in other climates that they would 05:12 adapt to that and adjust that. 05:14 Now how many kids would they have? 05:16 Usually about two or three sometimes. 05:18 They stick around for a couple of years, but boy, 05:21 then they gotta leave. 05:23 Now tell me this, is it true what I heard, 05:25 that when they get excited or frightened, 05:28 That is so true. 05:30 I have been scared to death at times when I'll hear that 05:34 ole beaver tail slap the water really hard. 05:36 Out of a quiet situation by the stream. 05:38 Yeah, you know then Hoe! 05:40 What could that be? 05:42 Well boys and girls it's so much fun and Ranger Dan and I 05:47 our goal is that if we can get you excited about 05:50 these wonderful things that God have made for us to 05:53 see and to share the earth with, then we will have 05:58 achieved our goal. 05:59 So this is Ranger Jim, boys and girls always telling you 06:03 don't forget to tell Jesus that you love Him, 06:05 because He really does love you. 06:15 Hello Yasmine! 06:16 Hi Uncle Buddy! 06:17 Why do you have an umbrella? 06:18 Mom said there was going to be showers today. 06:21 And I'm ready. 06:24 Showers today, what kind of showers? 06:26 Showers of blessings. 06:28 Showers of blessing, boys and girls that's the kind 06:31 of showers we need. 06:38 There shall be showers of blessing 06:42 This is the promise above. 06:45 There shall be seasons refreshing, 06:49 sent from the Savior above. 06:52 Showers of blessing 06:56 Showers of blessing we need. 07:00 Mercy drops around us are falling, 07:03 but for the showers we plead. 07:09 There shall be showers of blessing, 07:12 Send them upon us oh Lord! 07:15 Grant to us now a refreshing, 07:19 Come and now honor Your word. 07:22 Shower's of blessing, 07:26 Showers of blessing we need. 07:30 Mercy drops around us are falling, 07:33 But for the showers we plead. 07:38 There shall be showers of blessing, 07:42 O that today they might fall. 07:46 Now unto God we are confessing, 07:49 Now it's on Jesus we call. 07:52 Showers of blessing. 07:56 Showers of blessing we need. 08:00 Mercy drops around us are falling. 08:03 But for the showers we plead. 08:17 Welcome to Learning Time. 08:18 Heh! Thanks for being with us today. 08:20 I've got something special to show you. 08:22 I've got two very special helpers. 08:24 Katlin, thanks for helping us today and John, 08:27 thanks for being here. 08:28 Now let me ask you guys a question. 08:30 What is this? 08:32 An ostrich egg! 08:33 It's an ostrich egg, do you have ostriches? 08:35 NO! 08:36 I don't either. 08:38 What do you have at home, John, do you have 08:39 any pets or animals? 08:40 NOPE! 08:41 Do you have a brother? 08:42 Yeah! 08:43 Well that doesn't count. 08:45 No, your brother counts. 08:46 But you know what? Eggs, eggs 08:49 You know this is the single this is the largest single cell 08:52 of any animal that is living on planet earth today. 08:55 And it starts out as an egg. 08:57 Now Katlin and John, did you start as an egg? 08:59 No! No! 09:01 Whoa! I did! 09:02 Everybody started out as an egg, 09:04 but where you hatch Katie? 09:05 NO! 09:06 NO! John were you hatched? 09:08 I don't think so. 09:09 You don't think so, well then we must of been born. 09:11 Where you born? 09:13 Yesssss! 09:14 We weren't hatched cause we're not birds. 09:16 Well the ostrich is a very special bird isn't it? 09:19 But you know what? 09:20 It doesn't fly. 09:21 Have you ever seen an ostrich fly in the air? 09:23 NOOOOO! 09:24 No and they're too big cause they get to be about 300 pounds. 09:27 That's a big flying object, isn't it? 09:29 That's right! 09:31 Well today we are going to try and figure something out. 09:32 Or try to figure something out that's what we do in Science. 09:34 Sounds like a science experiment. 09:37 Now I happen to have a chicken's egg right here. 09:39 It's a little bit smaller isn't it? 09:41 Um Humm! 09:42 Hey, I wonder how many chicken eggs do you think would fit 09:45 inside this ostrich egg? 09:48 John what do you think? How many? 09:49 AH! 18? 09:50 18, boy that's a lot isn't it? 09:52 What about you Katlin? 09:53 15? 09:54 Shall we find out? 09:55 Um Humm! 09:56 Hey, is it okay, can we do the experiment? 09:57 Yesssss! 09:58 Well that's what we are going to do. 09:59 Now Katlin has a dozen eggs right there, 12 eggs. 10:02 And John does. 10:03 Now I want you to crack you eggs, put yours in there Katlin, 10:05 And John put yours in there. 10:07 Now let's go, because we have got a lot of eggs to crack. 10:08 While they are doing that work, we are going to talk 10:10 a little bit about Ostriches. 10:13 Because you know if we had an Ostrich, you know, 10:15 we could lift our hands way up high in the air and you know 10:18 we couldn't even touch the Ostriches head if it's 10:20 neck was straight up because they get to be 10 feet tall. 10:23 That's a tall bird. 10:25 Isn't that a tall 10 feet tall? 10:26 Yesssss! 10:27 I don't know anybody's that 10 feet tall. 10:28 Now I have a friend, you know my friend has 10:31 ridden on an Ostrich. 10:32 You can ride on those Ostriches. 10:33 Have you ever ridden on an Ostrich? 10:35 Well if you are from Australia you just might get a chance 10:39 to ride on an Ostrich. 10:40 It's, I think it's hard to ride on an Ostrich. 10:43 Now Ostriches are interesting. 10:45 Now they can have up to 1 to 15 eggs in their nest. 10:50 They sit on the eggs, can you image a bird that weighs 10:53 300 pounds sitting on an egg? 10:56 Would you ever sit on an egg? 10:57 NOOOOO! 10:59 Well I wouldn't either, but I am tell you what, 11:01 if you happen to be a Ostrich, you could, as a person, 11:06 you could stand on this egg, if it didn't have a hole in it. 11:07 You see the hole? 11:08 We've got a little hole right in this egg. 11:10 And that's how they prepare eggs, if you want 11:13 save eggs and have a whole collection of eggs, you gotta 11:16 take the single cell out of there because it will get rotten 11:19 and it smells like a rotten egg, and that's not a good smell. 11:22 So they take all that stuff out of there, and you can save it 11:26 and rinse it out and that's what we have right here. 11:28 How we doing? 11:29 Are you done? 11:30 We've got this little whipper thing, 11:32 Katlin why don't you whip yours up. 11:34 Shall we do that? 11:35 You might have to pop them and hit them, oh we got an 11:37 egg shell, Hey, your a good cook. 11:39 We've got to whip them all up, we need the yokes all 11:42 smashed cause then we are going to try to pour 11:45 them right in here. Okay? 11:47 Well the Ostrich is an interesting bird. 11:49 It can outrun a horse. 11:52 Did you know that? 11:53 An Ostrich can go over 50 miles an hour. 11:56 Man, that's some kind of fast bird. 11:58 I guess that's why they don't have to fly, I mean if they 12:01 can run that fast why do you need to fly? 12:03 Well, are we ready Katlin? 12:04 Okay, we've got a couple more we got to squish over there. 12:07 Okay, then after that John can go ahead and get his 12:10 all whipped up. 12:11 I think we're ready Katlin. 12:13 Let me take your bowl, let's give John that 12:15 little whipper thing. Okay! 12:16 Whoop, here we go. 12:18 Right, you got it John? 12:19 Alright, now I'm going to pour this in here. 12:21 You think it's going to fit? 12:22 Yeahhhhhhhh! 12:23 Well we've got a little funnel right here and we are going to 12:24 pour this in here. 12:26 Oh man, that's a lot of eggs. 12:27 How many eggs, Katlin, is in here? 12:29 12! 12:30 12, that sounds like a dozen eggs to me. 12:33 We're pouring, look at that! 12:34 Let's keep pouring and pouring boy if it overflows we're going 12:37 to be in trouble right here. 12:39 Look at that? More eggs and more eggs, 12:40 How you doing John? 12:41 John's just beating his eggs up there like you're going 12:44 to fix an omelet right? 12:45 I'll tell you what, that's a lot of eggs. 12:48 Hey, Katlin, here's the bowl, you want to grab the bowl 12:51 for me and sit it down right over there. 12:53 John, are you done? 12:54 Hey! Let's look inside John. 12:55 Is there any room in there? 12:56 There's more room! 12:58 Shall we try the other dozen? 13:00 Yeahhhhhhhh! 13:01 Can you imagine maybe it would hold 2 dozen eggs? 13:04 Let's put this right in here. 13:05 John, I am going to pour this in here. 13:07 Let's see what we have got. 13:09 Well there goes some more eggs, can you see 13:11 all those eggs? 13:12 I don't know about you, you know what? 13:14 If you had an Ostrich and you had company, 13:17 you know what you could do? 13:18 All you'd have to need is just one Ostrich egg and you could 13:21 feed your whole family, 10 or 12 people because you could 13:25 get a lot of omelet's out of one Ostrich egg. 13:28 And we keep going, and we have a little more left. 13:30 Look that's about two eggs, Oh look, here we go, 13:33 What's happening right here? 13:35 I think we just reached the limit. 13:37 Oh there it is, look! 13:38 Look at that, and we have just a little tiny bit, 13:41 of that egg left over in our little bowl. 13:43 So we have almost 2 dozen eggs in there don't we? 13:46 Um Humm! 13:47 Isn't that amazing? 13:48 How many of you would ever thought that you could put 13:49 2 dozen eggs in there? 13:50 Well me neither, because it sounds impossible doesn't it? 13:54 Well I'm glad that God actually made the Ostrich. 13:59 What an interesting bird. 14:00 You know we can read about the Ostrich in the Bible? 14:02 Did you know that? 14:04 In Job, Chapter 39 it talks about the Ostrich. 14:08 So that would be a good thing for you and I to do, read 14:12 that passage about the Ostrich. 14:13 Every time we learn something new about Science, 14:17 We're learning something new about our Creator, God. 14:31 All night, all day. 14:35 Angels watching over me my Lord. 14:39 All night, all day, 14:44 angels watching over me. 14:48 All night, all day, 14:53 angels watching over me my Lord. 14:58 All night, all day, 15:02 angels watching over me, 15:06 angels watching over me. 15:12 Angels watching over me. 15:30 Guards, Unclean, Unclean! They're unclean! 15:38 Hush the Guards! I'm clean! 15:46 No! No! Listen 15:47 Listen, first you must listen we have something to say. 15:50 We want... 15:53 We have good news! We have good news! 15:55 This morning there were four of us lepers at the front 15:59 gate, four of us! 16:01 We decided, that starving to death was not a good way to go. 16:07 Not at all. 16:08 We knew that the Syrian were surrounding us, 16:11 and we said to ourselves, well let's go to the Syrian camp 16:15 because the worse thing they can do is kill us fast. 16:19 That's better than starving to death here. 16:21 So we got together, we went out and we went into the camp, 16:26 no one was there. 16:28 Not one, it was empty. 16:29 Completely empty. 16:31 Well we looked in the first tent and there was a huge table 16:38 of food, so much food. 16:41 We stuffed our mouths full, and then there was treasure, 16:47 and nice clothes and armor, so we got some together and went 16:53 out and hid it. 16:54 Then we remembered you guys. 16:59 This is selfish. 17:00 We have to share. 17:02 So we went back to the city gates and we were yelling 17:05 and screaming and happy. 17:07 We told the guards what had happened. 17:09 We said, "during the night the Lord must of come 17:13 and frightened away the Syrian army. " 17:16 Because we were there and didn't see anyone. 17:18 It was like everyone threw off their armor and ran off. 17:23 Well our king is a very smart and wise man and he said, "this 17:27 smells like a trap.
