00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there,
00:07 looking for a friend like Jesus.
00:10 It's time to share there's a world out there;
00:13 let's tell them that He loves us so.
00:17 Let's tell them that He loves us so.
00:20 Kids time, kids time, kids time.
00:25 Hi boys and girls. Today I brought some darts
00:29 and a dart board with me so I can kind of practice
00:30 between taping and lately I become you know kind of
00:32 intrigued with what it takes to achieve excellent aim.
00:35 Now, this is the dart board and you can see right here
00:39 this red spot right here that's called a bulls eye
00:43 and that's the best you can be if you can get a dart in
00:46 that bulls eye, that's really what you wanna do.
00:49 Well, you know what that means that if you have
00:52 perfect aim that means that you get your dart in that
00:54 bulls eye every single time. Well you know what I've
00:57 tried and I have tried but it doesn't seem like
01:00 I am getting any better, in fact I think I am getting
01:03 worse, I did get a bulls eye once but in my heart
01:07 I have to admit to you guys I'm pretty sure with an
01:09 accident because I am not a good aim at all.
01:12 I decided to practice with my darts when I read an
01:14 exciting story in the Bible, about a young boy
01:17 who had perfect aim, only he wasn't playing with darts
01:21 he was fighting bears and lions and he even fought a
01:24 giant who was threatening and making fun of the people
01:27 of God. His targets were moving targets and my target
01:31 just sits here and is still, I still can't hit it.
01:33 Besides that, the great big giant had great big armor.
01:37 You know our young hero didn't have any armor at all.
01:40 All he had was a sling shot and a few stones.
01:43 Now what chance did he have against that angry evil
01:46 giant? Well, I think he had a secret and it wasn't
01:51 just his good aim, he was fighting with a whole lot
01:54 more than just a sling shot and a few stones,
01:57 we are going to find out a secret in our Bible story
01:59 today, but first let's see what Ranger Jim is up to.
02:09 Hi boys and girls, Ranger Jim saying
02:11 welcome to nature time, we are glad you can join us
02:13 today. We're in Knoxville, Tennessee at Ijams nature
02:15 center and there are many wonderful things to see
02:18 and learn about here and I have my friend with me today
02:22 who is Todd and he is a biologist here and Todd is
02:24 gonna tell us about something many of you
02:28 haven't seen some of you may have seen.
02:30 Todd, what do you have for us here. We have some tree
02:32 frogs today we are gonna talk about tree frogs,
02:34 we have, tree frogs of course are amphibians
02:38 and that's a group of animals that have slimy skin
02:43 and they lay eggs and they jump. And they jump okay.
02:50 Especially the frogs and what about their feet,
02:53 they are able to climb I think these climb.
02:55 These tree frogs, the difference in tree frogs
03:00 and other frogs are their ability to climb
03:02 and their little sticky pads which you;
03:04 you'll stick on to that and you can see.
03:06 Almost like a suction cup. It is a little suction cup
03:08 on the ends of each toe and these are actually
03:11 gray tree frogs and they are a common tree frog here
03:15 in East Tennessee and they make lots of little sounds,
03:19 when they're in the mating season which just,
03:21 just finished and we have some tadpoles here to show
03:27 also oops, This guy wants to leave. He does, he does,
03:31 in the box. Okay and you have some tadpoles for us.
03:35 We do, we do these just hatched out, these are
03:37 actually tree frogs that we keep inside in an aquarium
03:41 and. Oh! they are tiny little guys.
03:43 Right, you see when you go to a pond or a shallow body
03:47 of water tadpoles and they're all different sizes
03:49 and that sort of relates to what kind of frog the
03:52 tadpole will turn into or what kind of frog
03:54 it came from. We have a few eggs in there
03:57 but one of the characteristics of amphibians
03:59 is that they have to have water to reproduce
04:02 and so they lay a mass of eggs and those eggs hatch
04:06 into what is called the larval stage or we called
04:08 them tadpoles and they stay in that stage for sometimes
04:13 a period of weeks or months, we even have a few that do
04:16 that for two years or a larval or a tadpole for two
04:20 years and then they go through what's called
04:22 metamorphosis and change into the adult frog.
04:28 And then they will lay their eggs in the water.
04:31 Being an amphibian they can live out of the water
04:33 but they will usually be near the water.
04:35 Correct and tree frogs are very, very much like that
04:37 they spend their time in trees near a body of water
04:41 and that's almost always vwhere you'll find them,
04:43 but yes almost all amphibians spend part of their
04:47 time in water and part of their time in land that's
04:49 actually what the metamorphosis word means.
04:52 Okay well now tell me this now I am sure all the
04:54 boys and girls have seen toads, what's the difference
04:57 frog and toads; toads are out in their lawn
04:59 and every where. Right, toads are more terrestrial,
05:02 they move away from the water more than the other
05:05 types of frogs, there is not a lot of difference
05:07 and of course they're different species,
05:09 a different kind of frog, but toads tend to be known
05:15 for having warts on them or they are very bumpy
05:17 and they are more. Dry skinned. Dry skinned
05:20 and they tend to just move away and live away from
05:24 water and they only come back to the water to reproduce.
05:28 Alright, now you said a while ago that they had a sound
05:30 and I see you have a little device there.
05:32 Could we hear what it sounds like?
05:34 Sure, I will start with the gray tree frog which we have
05:38 here as an example and I will play you the sound of
05:40 the gray tree frog, let's make sure I have it on.
05:48 Have you heard that boys and girls.
05:51 Then you know what it is? Many times I think people
05:56 confuse tree frogs sometimes with crickets or insects
05:58 because some of them make the funny sound,
06:00 this is another type of tree frog that we'll hear
06:03 the sound of it's called a Spring Peeper
06:05 and you mostly hear them in the spring.
06:06 Ah yes! That's the name. Right, the spring peepers.
06:14 And then we also, a very popular frog here at Ijams
06:19 is the Bull frog, which we have a pond full and.
06:27 Big ol' fellow. Most people recognize that
06:29 it's our largest, largest frog and then we will go
06:33 with the toad, this is an American toad,
06:35 which is another common toad that's here in the park.
06:44 Okay. And you perhaps have heard that on a warm evening
06:47 in the summer time boys and girls. Todd, thank you
06:49 so much for coming and telling us about this.
06:51 Ranger Jim is always boys and girls saying
06:54 don't forget to tell Jesus that you love him
06:56 because he really does love you.
07:05 My brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power
07:08 of his mind, put on the whole armor of God that you
07:11 against the wiles of the devil. Have your loins girt
07:17 about with truth and having on the breastplate
07:19 of righteousness and have your feet shod about with
07:23 the preparation of Gospel of peace, above all take
07:27 the shield of faith wherewith you shall be able
07:29 to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked and take
07:32 the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
07:35 which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10, 11,
07:39 14 to 17. Salute.
07:50 I may never march in the infantry
07:54 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery
07:58 I may never fly o'er the enemy
08:02 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes Sir!
08:05 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir!
08:10 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir!
08:14 I may never march in the infantry
08:18 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery
08:22 I may never fly o'er the enemy
08:26 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir!
08:32 I may never march in the infantry
08:36 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery
08:40 I may never fly o'er the enemy
08:44 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes Sir!
08:48 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir!
08:52 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir!
08:56 I may never march in the infantry
09:00 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery
09:04 I may never fly o'er the enemy
09:08 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir!
09:22 Welcome to Learning Time, I'm glad that you've joined
09:25 us today. Now, how many of you have ever heard of
09:31 something called Inertia, how many of you heard
09:32 about word Inertia and you at home maybe ever heard
09:34 about word Inertia. We're gonna study about Inertia
09:37 today and the experiment that we're gonna do today,
09:40 you at home, you can do this too. What I want you to do
09:43 is, I want you to find a penny and I want you to find
09:45 a card. Can you do that? Yeah!
09:47 While you're finding the penny and the card I want
09:50 you look at this object right here.
09:51 This is a water bottle, now, if I put the water bottle
09:55 on my table. Does that water bottle, does it wanna
09:59 stay here or does it wanna go away. It will stay.
10:03 It wants to stay there, it's real happy to stay
10:05 right here and so we say that the water bottle it has
10:08 Inertia and I have another object right here. This is a?
10:13 Ball. A ball, now if I take this ball and if I throw it
10:16 to Tyler and it just goes and it just wants to stay in
10:20 motion. It just wants to go until it hit something,
10:23 doesn't it? Oh and that was a great catch.
10:25 Now, what we're gonna try to do is this,
10:27 I want you to take your card and I want you to put it
10:29 and balance it right on your finger. Just like that,
10:33 did you find your card at home? You can use any kind
10:36 of card like an index card and cut it in half and then
10:39 I want you to put your penny right on top of the card
10:42 and make the penny balanced right on your card,
10:45 with a little practice you'll be able to do that
10:48 just as well. Now, if we can take our finger and if we
10:51 can just slip our finger out just a little bit like this
10:56 and if we push straight into the card, the penny just
11:00 wants to stay where it is and sometimes you can get
11:03 the penny to stay there and the card just move right
11:07 underneath it. So, let's try that. Just a nice little
11:10 easy tap and let's see if we can oh! Look at there
11:14 the card went away and the penny wanted to stay right
11:18 where it was. That's what we call inertia, can you do
11:21 that. Practice that a little bit and you'll able to do
11:24 that at home too. This is a great trick, a science trick
11:28 and it's all about what? Inertia, that is exciting
11:34 and we're seeing some more over here and over here.
11:37 That's interesting; now remember an object wants
11:41 to stay where we put it. That's a good deal isn't it?
11:44 Otherwise those stools and chairs that you're sitting
11:47 on they would be wandering all over the room that would
11:53 be pretty inconvenient wouldn't it? Oh! Yeah,
11:54 when we put things down, they stay where we put them
11:56 and we can always find them. I like that.
12:00 Remember, when we learn about science,
12:03 we're learning something about our creator God.
12:16 Salad and Apples right here folks.
12:18 Could you see that? Oh! Look, look at this,
12:25 do you see what he's doing, isn't that neat?
12:26 Hey. Did you see those apples?
12:27 Try my apples; they're the best in this whole place.
12:30 They're big, they're juicy, it's like Goliath.
12:34 Goliath, what's that?
12:35 You never heard the story of Goliath.
12:37 Goliath, the person. Oh! Yeah, he was a giant,
12:40 you don't know? No. Oh! Let me tell you. Tell me about?
12:46 It's a great story. It happened when I was a
12:47 little kid. About this, about this guy's age.
12:50 So see there was this big giant from the Philistines.
12:53 His name was Goliath and he was part of a huge
12:56 Philistine army and they came over and they were
12:59 fighting us Israelites. Everyday Goliath would come
13:03 out and he was huge. His sword was about as big as
13:06 my body Wow and he said why don't you send a man out
13:11 to fight me. Well, no one wanted to fight Goliath
13:14 one on one, 'cause he was so big. He can almost step
13:17 on them like a little bug, well, this went on for a
13:21 really long time. Everyday Goliath would come out
13:24 and he would make fun of us and he would make fun of
13:27 our God say. What a puny God, he can't even help you
13:31 guys fight. But one day a young shepherd boy heard
13:35 Goliath and he said God's my friend. He can't talk
13:43 about God like that. So, he decided
13:44 he was gonna fight Goliath.
13:45 He, a little boy was gonna fight a giant.
13:48 Yeah, he said, he could do it. Well, King Saul said
13:50 just the same thing you said sir and he called David.
13:56 He said, well David, if you're gonna fight this man
13:57 wear my armor. So, he put all the heavy armor on David
14:00 and gave him his big sword and it just swallowed up
14:03 David and David said I can't fight like this,
14:06 he said I'm not gonna fight with a sword.
14:08 I'm gonna fight with God. So he went out
14:11 and he got five smooth stones and a sling shot.
14:14 Can you believe it? He was gonna take on this giant
14:17 with a sling shot. With not even a sword.
14:20 No, no swords at all and so Goliath saw this little man
14:24 coming at him, he said what am I a dog that you come on
14:27 me with sticks and stones. Come here little boy
14:31 and I will feed you to the birds of the air.
14:34 Well, that would havescaredme silly, but not David.
14:37 David. David said, you come at me with swords
14:40 and spears, but I come at you in the name of the Lord
14:43 most high, who you have defied. Really.
14:47 And with that Goliath pulled back his helmet
14:50 and he ripped out his huge sword and he started chasing
14:54 at David and David just stood there and he took one
14:57 of his little stones out and put in his sling,
15:00 point around his head and slam. Nailed Goliath right
15:05 on the head, Goliath shuttered and shook his head
15:10 and then he fell down dead. The Philistines were so
15:14 scared to see that Goliath had fallen. They just
15:18 dropped their swords and ran and it was great victory
15:21 for God. Just because of a little guy,
15:24 just like you decided to fight with God,
15:27 that's the good story of Goliath.
15:29 That's an amazing story, isn't it?
15:30 Yes, it is. Would you like to buy some apples sir.
15:33 Yeah, sure. Well, I've got special for you.
15:36 Noah, you got some money to give to the,
15:37 for some apples. Let me see there little man,
15:41 would you like two apples, or three.
15:43 Oh! Let's have three, one for this boy. Alright.
15:45 And I could use one myself. Okay.
16:17 You are Lord of creation and Lord of my life,
16:22 Lord of the land and the sea.
16:26 You were Lord of the heavens before there was time,
16:31 And Lord of all Lords You will be.
16:35 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord.
16:40 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord.
16:44 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord.
16:49 And Lord of all lords You will be.
16:56 You are King of creation and King of my life,
17:01 King of the land and the sea.
17:05 You are King of the heavens before there was time,
17:10 And King of all kings You will be.
17:14 We bow down. We bow down and we crown You the King.
17:19 We bow down. We bow down and we crown You the King.
17:23 We bow down. We bow down and we crown You the King.
17:28 And King of all kings You will be.
17:32 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord.
17:37 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord.
17:41 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord.
17:46 And Lord of all Lords You will be.
17:51 And Lord of all Lords You will be.
17:55 And Lord of all Lords You will be.
18:09 Hi, boys and girls. I'm here with my friend Jennifer
18:11 and she's going to help me introduce
18:14 the Book of The Day. And the book that I've chosen for
18:18 you today is called The Secret Of The Cave
18:21 and it's by Arthur S. Maxwell.
18:24 What reason had anyone in the village to connect
18:27 the disappearance of the boot, the lost horse,
18:30 the cork life jacket, the windowpane,
18:32 the lost peat moss, the rusty clock spring,
18:36 or the strange prints in the earth with McCullem's Cave?
18:40 Who milked the old lady's cow and left a note for
18:43 her saying, "Don't worry about Nancy this morning!"
18:46 Roy determined to find out. Since there seemed to be
18:48 a connection of some kind with the cave,
18:51 he went exploring there. The cave was dark,
18:54 and he had to crawl on his hands and his knees.
18:57 He was trembling as he went farther in and all of a
19:00 sudden, he came up on a door, a door, yes a door.
19:06 He peered in through the crack, and there he saw,
19:10 he couldn't believe. But I'm not gonna tell you,
19:14 you're gonna have to read the book boys and girls,
19:16 The Secret Of The Cave. Doesn't that look exciting
19:20 Jennifer? Yeah! It does,
19:21 you wanna read this book. Well, I absolutely love
19:25 getting your letters boys and girls. I love to get the
19:27 emails, I love it when you come here in and you're
19:29 actually on the program with me and I even like talking
19:33 with you on the phone and right now. I have someone
19:35 on the phone, I would like to have you talk with too,
19:38 I've Zachary on the phone. Hi, Zachary. Hi, Miss Brenda.
19:42 I want to know Zachary, can you tell me
19:45 where are you from? Farmington, New Mexico.
19:48 That's the way, quite away from Southern Illinois,
19:50 how old are you? 13. You're 13,
19:53 what do you do to share Jesus, Zachary?
19:55 Well, I'm in junior Sabbath school class and one day
20:00 we went out and tied string to some batteries
20:04 and wrote verses and we did that, because we were
20:08 showing people around our church neighborhood that
20:11 Jesus is our power and we can't do anything without
20:14 him. Well, amen about that.
20:16 What kind of batteries where these? They were V8.
20:20 I mean not V8, AA. AA batteries
20:23 and what were these likes real batteries.
20:25 They're with the. Yes, they were.
20:27 And, were they good batteries? Uh-huh!
20:29 And so was this something that people could actually
20:31 use for a specific purpose then afterwards. Yeah.
20:36 Was this same ones, you're telling me about that
20:37 they used, to help people in their smoke detectors
20:40 for the houses. Yeah. Oh! Okay,
20:43 well that sounds like then you were helping them
20:45 with their smoke detectors and also you were showing
20:48 them the analogy of Jesus power right. Umm!
20:51 That's a wonderful way to share Jesus,
20:53 that's can you can boys and girls can do at home.
20:55 Can't you? Umm!
20:56 Well, you've someone else in your family that loves
20:59 Jesus. So, what's your sister's name? Lindsey.
21:01 Lindsey, can we talk to her too? Yes.
21:04 Oh! Thank you. Hi. Hi Lindsey.
21:09 Hi. And welcome to Kid's Time. Thank you.
21:13 What do you do to share Jesus?
21:16 We go to the good shepherd and take down donuts to the
21:19 homeless. Oh! That's good. Have you had any really neat
21:23 experiences when you've done that.
21:26 Yeah, people like really say thank you Lin,
21:31 that we really appreciate it. Oh! That was so nice,
21:34 well thank you for sharing that for; with me.
21:37 Would you ever like to come and be on Kids Time?
21:39 Umm! Yeah. Well, I would like to have you come sometime,
21:42 if it's something you would like to do maybe you wanna
21:44 come and be one of our Bible stories.
21:45 Would you like that? Yeah! Alright,
21:47 well write and let me know, and send me your phone
21:49 number, boys and girls you too. I invite you,
21:51 those of you who wanna be on Kids Time.
21:53 Write and let me know, send me your phone number.
21:55 Okay, thank you so much Lindsey. Tell your brother,
21:57 thank you too. Okay. Alright, bye, bye. Bye.
22:00 Oh! Wasn't that nice to talk. Yeah!
22:02 With Lindsey and Zachary, well I've Jennifer with me
22:06 today and Jennifer can you tell me, where are you from?
22:10 Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville, Tennessee,
22:12 and can you tell me, what it is, how old are you?
22:15 9. You're 9 years old, what do you do to share Jesus?
22:18 Well, I went, when my dad worked at a nursing home.
22:21 I went and my dad said that, they didn't have,
22:26 they eat their, either they had grandchildren or that
22:30 they didn't get to see them much, so I'll get. You mean
22:32 the elderly people that stayed in the nursing home.
22:34 Yeah, so I got to go and talk to them and sing and sing
22:38 and they really liked that. Oh! Did you meet anybody
22:41 special? Yeah, this one women really likes
22:45 what I did for her and she asked me to comeback again.
22:49 Oh! So you enjoyed going back and singing for her
22:51 and talking to her. Did you ever pray with any of them?
22:54 Yes. You did, you know it's lonely in there all by
22:56 yourselves sometimes, isn't it? Yeah! Umm!
22:58 Well, I'm glad have you done anything else to share
23:00 Jesus. Yeah, I've sang upfront and I've done
23:03 the children story also. Now, when you say you've done
23:05 the children story, what does that mean? I've said it.
23:09 You've actually told the story yourself up
23:11 in front of the church. Yes.
23:13 Well, that's wonderful you know what.
23:14 I've a little secret, can I share this with
23:16 the boys and girls. Yeah. I actually, Jennifer goes to
23:20 my home church in Knoxville and even though I don't get
23:22 to be there very much myself, 'cause I do travel
23:24 quite a bit and I'm here quite a bit at on Kids' Time.
23:28 I happened actually hear a story that Jennifer told
23:31 and she did a wonderful job and I was really proud

23:56 Said dear Miss Brenda, I've just started watching your

24:01 recently with my foster parents they're

24:09 It says my brother's names are, my brothers
24:13 and sisters names are David, Mariah, Austin and Blake
24:17 and it says my foster mom is writing this for me
24:20 and helping me. Our mom never took us to church
24:23 or told us about God. So, it's hard for us to
24:26 understand who God is and all about church.
24:29 We do go to church now, please send me and
24:34 my brothers and sisters an activity book
24:37 and the Bible studies and please remember us in prayer
24:39 that we won't ever have to go back where we were abused
24:42 or hurt again. Please pray for me thank you Elizabeth.
24:46 Well, thank you for that precious letter Elizabeth,
