It's time to share there's a world out there, 00:00:03.48\00:00:07.15 looking for a friend like Jesus. 00:00:07.18\00:00:10.26 It's time to share there's a world out there; 00:00:10.29\00:00:13.51 let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:00:13.54\00:00:17.04 Let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:00:17.07\00:00:20.54 Kids time, kids time, kids time. 00:00:20.57\00:00:25.17 Hi boys and girls. Today I brought some darts 00:00:25.20\00:00:27.01 and a dart board with me so I can kind of practice 00:00:29.20\00:00:30.17 between taping and lately I become you know kind of 00:00:30.18\00:00:32.12 intrigued with what it takes to achieve excellent aim. 00:00:32.15\00:00:35.49 Now, this is the dart board and you can see right here 00:00:35.52\00:00:39.27 this red spot right here that's called a bulls eye 00:00:39.30\00:00:43.39 and that's the best you can be if you can get a dart in 00:00:43.42\00:00:46.12 that bulls eye, that's really what you wanna do. 00:00:46.15\00:00:49.28 Well, you know what that means that if you have 00:00:49.31\00:00:52.17 perfect aim that means that you get your dart in that 00:00:52.20\00:00:54.66 bulls eye every single time. Well you know what I've 00:00:54.69\00:00:57.71 tried and I have tried but it doesn't seem like 00:00:57.74\00:01:00.38 I am getting any better, in fact I think I am getting 00:01:00.41\00:01:03.12 worse, I did get a bulls eye once but in my heart 00:01:03.15\00:01:07.52 I have to admit to you guys I'm pretty sure with an 00:01:07.55\00:01:09.71 accident because I am not a good aim at all. 00:01:09.74\00:01:12.35 I decided to practice with my darts when I read an 00:01:12.38\00:01:14.76 exciting story in the Bible, about a young boy 00:01:14.79\00:01:17.39 who had perfect aim, only he wasn't playing with darts 00:01:17.42\00:01:21.09 he was fighting bears and lions and he even fought a 00:01:21.12\00:01:24.85 giant who was threatening and making fun of the people 00:01:24.88\00:01:27.02 of God. His targets were moving targets and my target 00:01:27.05\00:01:31.08 just sits here and is still, I still can't hit it. 00:01:31.11\00:01:33.80 Besides that, the great big giant had great big armor. 00:01:33.83\00:01:37.90 You know our young hero didn't have any armor at all. 00:01:37.93\00:01:40.30 All he had was a sling shot and a few stones. 00:01:40.33\00:01:43.84 Now what chance did he have against that angry evil 00:01:43.87\00:01:46.82 giant? Well, I think he had a secret and it wasn't 00:01:46.85\00:01:50.99 just his good aim, he was fighting with a whole lot 00:01:51.02\00:01:54.20 more than just a sling shot and a few stones, 00:01:54.23\00:01:57.17 we are going to find out a secret in our Bible story 00:01:57.20\00:01:59.36 today, but first let's see what Ranger Jim is up to. 00:01:59.39\00:02:03.00 Hi boys and girls, Ranger Jim saying 00:02:09.66\00:02:11.16 welcome to nature time, we are glad you can join us 00:02:11.19\00:02:13.18 today. We're in Knoxville, Tennessee at Ijams nature 00:02:13.21\00:02:15.85 center and there are many wonderful things to see 00:02:15.88\00:02:18.69 and learn about here and I have my friend with me today 00:02:18.72\00:02:22.09 who is Todd and he is a biologist here and Todd is 00:02:22.12\00:02:24.94 gonna tell us about something many of you 00:02:24.97\00:02:26.98 haven't seen some of you may have seen. 00:02:28.95\00:02:29.92 Todd, what do you have for us here. We have some tree 00:02:29.93\00:02:32.04 frogs today we are gonna talk about tree frogs, 00:02:32.07\00:02:34.82 we have, tree frogs of course are amphibians 00:02:34.85\00:02:38.16 and that's a group of animals that have slimy skin 00:02:38.19\00:02:43.49 and they lay eggs and they jump. And they jump okay. 00:02:43.52\00:02:50.54 Especially the frogs and what about their feet, 00:02:50.57\00:02:53.34 they are able to climb I think these climb. 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.02 These tree frogs, the difference in tree frogs 00:02:55.05\00:03:00.03 and other frogs are their ability to climb 00:03:00.06\00:03:02.00 and their little sticky pads which you; 00:03:02.03\00:03:04.09 you'll stick on to that and you can see. 00:03:04.12\00:03:06.12 Almost like a suction cup. It is a little suction cup 00:03:06.15\00:03:08.41 on the ends of each toe and these are actually 00:03:08.44\00:03:11.08 gray tree frogs and they are a common tree frog here 00:03:11.11\00:03:15.53 in East Tennessee and they make lots of little sounds, 00:03:15.56\00:03:19.48 when they're in the mating season which just, 00:03:19.51\00:03:21.77 just finished and we have some tadpoles here to show 00:03:21.80\00:03:27.23 also oops, This guy wants to leave. He does, he does, 00:03:27.26\00:03:30.99 in the box. Okay and you have some tadpoles for us. 00:03:31.02\00:03:35.70 We do, we do these just hatched out, these are 00:03:35.73\00:03:37.63 actually tree frogs that we keep inside in an aquarium 00:03:37.66\00:03:41.32 and. Oh! they are tiny little guys. 00:03:41.35\00:03:43.73 Right, you see when you go to a pond or a shallow body 00:03:43.76\00:03:47.07 of water tadpoles and they're all different sizes 00:03:47.10\00:03:49.29 and that sort of relates to what kind of frog the 00:03:49.32\00:03:52.09 tadpole will turn into or what kind of frog 00:03:52.12\00:03:54.54 it came from. We have a few eggs in there 00:03:54.57\00:03:57.03 but one of the characteristics of amphibians 00:03:57.06\00:03:59.76 is that they have to have water to reproduce 00:03:59.79\00:04:02.45 and so they lay a mass of eggs and those eggs hatch 00:04:02.48\00:04:06.04 into what is called the larval stage or we called 00:04:06.07\00:04:08.89 them tadpoles and they stay in that stage for sometimes 00:04:08.92\00:04:13.36 a period of weeks or months, we even have a few that do 00:04:13.39\00:04:16.38 that for two years or a larval or a tadpole for two 00:04:16.41\00:04:20.13 years and then they go through what's called 00:04:20.16\00:04:22.85 metamorphosis and change into the adult frog. 00:04:22.88\00:04:27.79 And then they will lay their eggs in the water. 00:04:28.67\00:04:31.15 Being an amphibian they can live out of the water 00:04:31.18\00:04:33.42 but they will usually be near the water. 00:04:33.45\00:04:35.26 Correct and tree frogs are very, very much like that 00:04:35.29\00:04:37.96 they spend their time in trees near a body of water 00:04:37.99\00:04:41.48 and that's almost always vwhere you'll find them, 00:04:41.51\00:04:43.71 but yes almost all amphibians spend part of their 00:04:43.74\00:04:47.73 time in water and part of their time in land that's 00:04:47.76\00:04:49.93 actually what the metamorphosis word means. 00:04:49.96\00:04:52.35 Okay well now tell me this now I am sure all the 00:04:52.38\00:04:54.36 boys and girls have seen toads, what's the difference 00:04:54.39\00:04:57.15 frog and toads; toads are out in their lawn 00:04:57.18\00:04:59.73 and every where. Right, toads are more terrestrial, 00:04:59.76\00:05:02.51 they move away from the water more than the other 00:05:02.54\00:05:05.22 types of frogs, there is not a lot of difference 00:05:05.25\00:05:07.32 and of course they're different species, 00:05:07.35\00:05:09.43 a different kind of frog, but toads tend to be known 00:05:09.46\00:05:14.99 for having warts on them or they are very bumpy 00:05:15.02\00:05:17.84 and they are more. Dry skinned. Dry skinned 00:05:17.87\00:05:20.06 and they tend to just move away and live away from 00:05:20.09\00:05:24.81 water and they only come back to the water to reproduce. 00:05:24.84\00:05:28.17 Alright, now you said a while ago that they had a sound 00:05:28.20\00:05:30.77 and I see you have a little device there. 00:05:30.80\00:05:32.53 Could we hear what it sounds like? 00:05:32.56\00:05:34.45 Sure, I will start with the gray tree frog which we have 00:05:34.48\00:05:38.36 here as an example and I will play you the sound of 00:05:38.39\00:05:40.73 the gray tree frog, let's make sure I have it on. 00:05:40.76\00:05:46.12 Have you heard that boys and girls. 00:05:48.75\00:05:50.47 Then you know what it is? Many times I think people 00:05:51.51\00:05:56.24 confuse tree frogs sometimes with crickets or insects 00:05:56.27\00:05:58.88 because some of them make the funny sound, 00:05:58.91\00:06:00.40 this is another type of tree frog that we'll hear 00:06:00.43\00:06:03.29 the sound of it's called a Spring Peeper 00:06:03.32\00:06:05.05 and you mostly hear them in the spring. 00:06:05.08\00:06:06.78 Ah yes! That's the name. Right, the spring peepers. 00:06:06.81\00:06:12.14 And then we also, a very popular frog here at Ijams 00:06:14.60\00:06:19.24 is the Bull frog, which we have a pond full and. 00:06:19.27\00:06:23.22 Big ol' fellow. Most people recognize that 00:06:27.39\00:06:29.63 it's our largest, largest frog and then we will go 00:06:29.66\00:06:33.82 with the toad, this is an American toad, 00:06:33.85\00:06:35.53 which is another common toad that's here in the park. 00:06:35.56\00:06:39.96 Okay. And you perhaps have heard that on a warm evening 00:06:44.28\00:06:47.38 in the summer time boys and girls. Todd, thank you 00:06:47.41\00:06:49.37 so much for coming and telling us about this. 00:06:49.40\00:06:51.61 Ranger Jim is always boys and girls saying 00:06:51.64\00:06:54.18 don't forget to tell Jesus that you love him 00:06:54.21\00:06:56.35 because he really does love you. 00:06:56.38\00:06:59.45 My brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power 00:07:05.90\00:07:08.18 of his mind, put on the whole armor of God that you 00:07:08.21\00:07:11.58 against the wiles of the devil. Have your loins girt 00:07:11.61\00:07:17.22 about with truth and having on the breastplate 00:07:17.25\00:07:19.79 of righteousness and have your feet shod about with 00:07:19.82\00:07:23.94 the preparation of Gospel of peace, above all take 00:07:23.97\00:07:27.03 the shield of faith wherewith you shall be able 00:07:27.06\00:07:29.68 to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked and take 00:07:29.71\00:07:32.60 the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, 00:07:32.63\00:07:35.10 which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10, 11, 00:07:35.13\00:07:39.44 14 to 17. Salute. 00:07:39.47\00:07:43.40 I may never march in the infantry 00:07:50.35\00:07:54.25 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery 00:07:54.28\00:07:58.24 I may never fly o'er the enemy 00:07:58.27\00:08:02.16 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes Sir! 00:08:02.19\00:08:05.85 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir! 00:08:05.88\00:08:10.10 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir! 00:08:10.13\00:08:13.80 I may never march in the infantry 00:08:14.48\00:08:18.29 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery 00:08:18.32\00:08:22.25 I may never fly o'er the enemy 00:08:22.28\00:08:26.25 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir! 00:08:26.28\00:08:29.81 I may never march in the infantry 00:08:32.54\00:08:36.38 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery 00:08:36.41\00:08:40.30 I may never fly o'er the enemy 00:08:40.33\00:08:44.30 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes Sir! 00:08:44.33\00:08:47.86 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir! 00:08:48.48\00:08:51.78 I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir! 00:08:52.33\00:08:55.65 I may never march in the infantry 00:08:56.48\00:09:00.22 Ride in the cavalry Shoot the artillery 00:09:00.25\00:09:04.17 I may never fly o'er the enemy 00:09:04.20\00:09:07.98 But I'm in the Lord's army! Yes sir! 00:09:08.01\00:09:11.82 Welcome to Learning Time, I'm glad that you've joined 00:09:22.72\00:09:25.42 us today. Now, how many of you have ever heard of 00:09:25.45\00:09:29.27 something called Inertia, how many of you heard 00:09:31.82\00:09:32.79 about word Inertia and you at home maybe ever heard 00:09:32.80\00:09:34.17 about word Inertia. We're gonna study about Inertia 00:09:34.20\00:09:37.50 today and the experiment that we're gonna do today, 00:09:37.53\00:09:40.47 you at home, you can do this too. What I want you to do 00:09:40.50\00:09:43.45 is, I want you to find a penny and I want you to find 00:09:43.48\00:09:45.77 a card. Can you do that? Yeah! 00:09:45.80\00:09:47.75 While you're finding the penny and the card I want 00:09:47.78\00:09:50.16 you look at this object right here. 00:09:50.19\00:09:51.90 This is a water bottle, now, if I put the water bottle 00:09:51.93\00:09:55.96 on my table. Does that water bottle, does it wanna 00:09:55.99\00:09:59.19 stay here or does it wanna go away. It will stay. 00:09:59.22\00:10:03.00 It wants to stay there, it's real happy to stay 00:10:03.03\00:10:05.34 right here and so we say that the water bottle it has 00:10:05.37\00:10:08.58 Inertia and I have another object right here. This is a? 00:10:08.61\00:10:13.12 Ball. A ball, now if I take this ball and if I throw it 00:10:13.15\00:10:16.54 to Tyler and it just goes and it just wants to stay in 00:10:16.57\00:10:20.66 motion. It just wants to go until it hit something, 00:10:20.69\00:10:23.19 doesn't it? Oh and that was a great catch. 00:10:23.22\00:10:25.29 Now, what we're gonna try to do is this, 00:10:25.32\00:10:27.12 I want you to take your card and I want you to put it 00:10:27.15\00:10:29.96 and balance it right on your finger. Just like that, 00:10:29.99\00:10:33.08 did you find your card at home? You can use any kind 00:10:33.11\00:10:36.09 of card like an index card and cut it in half and then 00:10:36.12\00:10:39.25 I want you to put your penny right on top of the card 00:10:39.28\00:10:42.71 and make the penny balanced right on your card, 00:10:42.74\00:10:45.75 with a little practice you'll be able to do that 00:10:45.78\00:10:48.05 just as well. Now, if we can take our finger and if we 00:10:48.08\00:10:51.83 can just slip our finger out just a little bit like this 00:10:51.86\00:10:56.47 and if we push straight into the card, the penny just 00:10:56.50\00:11:00.59 wants to stay where it is and sometimes you can get 00:11:00.62\00:11:03.67 the penny to stay there and the card just move right 00:11:03.70\00:11:07.54 underneath it. So, let's try that. Just a nice little 00:11:07.57\00:11:10.80 easy tap and let's see if we can oh! Look at there 00:11:10.83\00:11:14.43 the card went away and the penny wanted to stay right 00:11:14.46\00:11:18.22 where it was. That's what we call inertia, can you do 00:11:18.25\00:11:21.71 that. Practice that a little bit and you'll able to do 00:11:21.74\00:11:24.93 that at home too. This is a great trick, a science trick 00:11:24.96\00:11:28.82 and it's all about what? Inertia, that is exciting 00:11:28.85\00:11:34.12 and we're seeing some more over here and over here. 00:11:34.15\00:11:37.13 That's interesting; now remember an object wants 00:11:37.74\00:11:41.24 to stay where we put it. That's a good deal isn't it? 00:11:41.27\00:11:44.86 Otherwise those stools and chairs that you're sitting 00:11:44.89\00:11:47.50 on they would be wandering all over the room that would 00:11:47.53\00:11:50.18 be pretty inconvenient wouldn't it? Oh! Yeah, 00:11:53.12\00:11:54.09 when we put things down, they stay where we put them 00:11:54.10\00:11:56.77 and we can always find them. I like that. 00:11:56.80\00:11:59.62 Remember, when we learn about science, 00:12:00.14\00:12:03.23 we're learning something about our creator God. 00:12:03.26\00:12:08.92 Salad and Apples right here folks. 00:12:16.39\00:12:18.23 Could you see that? Oh! Look, look at this, 00:12:18.26\00:12:22.25 do you see what he's doing, isn't that neat? 00:12:25.24\00:12:26.21 Hey. Did you see those apples? 00:12:26.22\00:12:27.62 Try my apples; they're the best in this whole place. 00:12:27.65\00:12:30.76 They're big, they're juicy, it's like Goliath. 00:12:30.79\00:12:34.04 Goliath, what's that? 00:12:34.07\00:12:35.59 You never heard the story of Goliath. 00:12:35.62\00:12:37.58 Goliath, the person. Oh! Yeah, he was a giant, 00:12:37.61\00:12:40.66 you don't know? No. Oh! Let me tell you. Tell me about? 00:12:40.69\00:12:43.48 It's a great story. It happened when I was a 00:12:46.18\00:12:47.15 little kid. About this, about this guy's age. 00:12:47.16\00:12:50.15 So see there was this big giant from the Philistines. 00:12:50.18\00:12:53.95 His name was Goliath and he was part of a huge 00:12:53.98\00:12:56.66 Philistine army and they came over and they were 00:12:56.69\00:12:59.43 fighting us Israelites. Everyday Goliath would come 00:12:59.46\00:13:02.97 out and he was huge. His sword was about as big as 00:13:03.00\00:13:06.36 my body Wow and he said why don't you send a man out 00:13:06.39\00:13:11.55 to fight me. Well, no one wanted to fight Goliath 00:13:11.58\00:13:14.84 one on one, 'cause he was so big. He can almost step 00:13:14.87\00:13:17.93 on them like a little bug, well, this went on for a 00:13:17.96\00:13:21.50 really long time. Everyday Goliath would come out 00:13:21.53\00:13:24.92 and he would make fun of us and he would make fun of 00:13:24.95\00:13:26.98 our God say. What a puny God, he can't even help you 00:13:27.01\00:13:31.14 guys fight. But one day a young shepherd boy heard 00:13:31.17\00:13:35.05 Goliath and he said God's my friend. He can't talk 00:13:35.08\00:13:39.61 about God like that. So, he decided 00:13:43.05\00:13:44.02 he was gonna fight Goliath. 00:13:44.83\00:13:45.80 He, a little boy was gonna fight a giant. 00:13:45.81\00:13:48.12 Yeah, he said, he could do it. Well, King Saul said 00:13:48.15\00:13:50.65 just the same thing you said sir and he called David. 00:13:50.68\00:13:53.17 He said, well David, if you're gonna fight this man 00:13:56.36\00:13:57.33 wear my armor. So, he put all the heavy armor on David 00:13:57.34\00:14:00.28 and gave him his big sword and it just swallowed up 00:14:00.31\00:14:03.36 David and David said I can't fight like this, 00:14:03.39\00:14:06.08 he said I'm not gonna fight with a sword. 00:14:06.42\00:14:08.36 I'm gonna fight with God. So he went out 00:14:08.39\00:14:11.46 and he got five smooth stones and a sling shot. 00:14:11.49\00:14:14.72 Can you believe it? He was gonna take on this giant 00:14:14.75\00:14:17.58 with a sling shot. With not even a sword. 00:14:17.61\00:14:20.55 No, no swords at all and so Goliath saw this little man 00:14:20.58\00:14:24.22 coming at him, he said what am I a dog that you come on 00:14:24.25\00:14:27.84 me with sticks and stones. Come here little boy 00:14:27.87\00:14:31.42 and I will feed you to the birds of the air. 00:14:31.45\00:14:34.33 Well, that would havescaredme silly, but not David. 00:14:34.36\00:14:35.33 David. David said, you come at me with swords 00:14:37.00\00:14:40.87 and spears, but I come at you in the name of the Lord 00:14:40.90\00:14:43.95 most high, who you have defied. Really. 00:14:43.98\00:14:47.52 And with that Goliath pulled back his helmet 00:14:47.55\00:14:50.91 and he ripped out his huge sword and he started chasing 00:14:50.94\00:14:54.50 at David and David just stood there and he took one 00:14:54.53\00:14:57.51 of his little stones out and put in his sling, 00:14:57.54\00:15:00.02 point around his head and slam. Nailed Goliath right 00:15:00.05\00:15:05.44 on the head, Goliath shuttered and shook his head 00:15:05.47\00:15:10.18 and then he fell down dead. The Philistines were so 00:15:10.21\00:15:14.81 scared to see that Goliath had fallen. They just 00:15:14.84\00:15:18.15 dropped their swords and ran and it was great victory 00:15:18.18\00:15:21.40 for God. Just because of a little guy, 00:15:21.43\00:15:23.83 just like you decided to fight with God, 00:15:24.90\00:15:27.27 that's the good story of Goliath. 00:15:27.30\00:15:29.16 That's an amazing story, isn't it? 00:15:29.19\00:15:30.25 Yes, it is. Would you like to buy some apples sir. 00:15:30.28\00:15:33.33 Yeah, sure. Well, I've got special for you. 00:15:33.36\00:15:36.10 Noah, you got some money to give to the, 00:15:36.13\00:15:37.94 for some apples. Let me see there little man, 00:15:37.97\00:15:40.59 would you like two apples, or three. 00:15:41.47\00:15:43.00 Oh! Let's have three, one for this boy. Alright. 00:15:43.03\00:15:45.75 And I could use one myself. Okay. 00:15:45.78\00:15:47.97 You are Lord of creation and Lord of my life, 00:16:17.38\00:16:22.68 Lord of the land and the sea. 00:16:22.71\00:16:26.50 You were Lord of the heavens before there was time, 00:16:26.53\00:16:31.35 And Lord of all Lords You will be. 00:16:31.38\00:16:35.40 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord. 00:17:32.47\00:17:36.99 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord. 00:17:37.02\00:17:41.73 We bow down. We bow down and we worship You, Lord. 00:17:41.76\00:17:46.73 And Lord of all Lords You will be. 00:17:46.76\00:17:51.09 And Lord of all Lords You will be. 00:17:51.12\00:17:55.68 And Lord of all Lords You will be. 00:17:55.71\00:18:01.67 Hi, boys and girls. I'm here with my friend Jennifer 00:18:09.58\00:18:11.92 and she's going to help me introduce 00:18:11.95\00:18:14.30 the Book of The Day. And the book that I've chosen for 00:18:14.33\00:18:18.87 you today is called The Secret Of The Cave 00:18:18.90\00:18:21.47 and it's by Arthur S. Maxwell. 00:18:21.50\00:18:23.79 What reason had anyone in the village to connect 00:18:24.30\00:18:27.18 the disappearance of the boot, the lost horse, 00:18:27.21\00:18:29.97 the cork life jacket, the windowpane, 00:18:30.00\00:18:32.70 the lost peat moss, the rusty clock spring, 00:18:32.73\00:18:36.12 or the strange prints in the earth with McCullem's Cave? 00:18:36.15\00:18:40.86 Who milked the old lady's cow and left a note for 00:18:40.89\00:18:43.04 her saying, "Don't worry about Nancy this morning!" 00:18:43.07\00:18:46.11 Roy determined to find out. Since there seemed to be 00:18:46.14\00:18:48.81 a connection of some kind with the cave, 00:18:48.84\00:18:51.16 he went exploring there. The cave was dark, 00:18:51.19\00:18:52.16 and he had to crawl on his hands and his knees. 00:18:54.37\00:18:57.03 He was trembling as he went farther in and all of a 00:18:57.06\00:19:00.74 sudden, he came up on a door, a door, yes a door. 00:19:00.77\00:19:06.67 He peered in through the crack, and there he saw, 00:19:06.70\00:19:10.80 he couldn't believe. But I'm not gonna tell you, 00:19:10.83\00:19:14.37 you're gonna have to read the book boys and girls, 00:19:14.40\00:19:16.58 The Secret Of The Cave.
