They do like to nest up 02:50 in trees and thou also nest in some cavities 02:53 that they find some tree cavities 02:54 large in and they will hide in those. 02:56 They would build a nest and they she would lay 02:58 an egg normally how many eggs would she lay about 03:01 two to four also and these particular birds have 03:05 they are really common around here to so 03:07 we are fortunate about that so they have abundant. 03:09 Okay and they don't have the characteristic 03:12 hoo hoo hoo hoo of the big horned owl. 03:14 No they don't but they are nick name Hoot Owls 03:16 because they do make that traditional hooty sounds 03:18 it's a little bit more delicate. Right as a softer 03:21 sound and my wife can tell you about three weeks ago 03:24 we had pair that lives near our home in Florida 03:26 and their nesting and they have young in the nest 03:29 they were out hunting and the male you can hear 03:31 little weeper voice off to one side and the female 03:33 they were talking back in forth and they came 03:36 wide up where we lived at 2'0 clock in the morning 03:39 my wife said do you hear that I've said who 03:40 couldn't hear hat you know sound like there owls 03:42 had to one haha hoo haha ha something like that 03:45 a guttural sound inside she said what they are doing 03:48 I said they are talking back in forth one sees 03:50 rabbit out there they calling the other one over 03:52 they are going to have something for the babies 03:54 to eat. Now with these talents that off and their beak 03:57 I know that what most hawks and most owls 04:00 I suppose at these probably are same is very 04:03 touching up been published to observe it a few times 04:06 when they catch small rotten in whatever they bring 04:08 it in and they chicks are fluzzy they don't really have 04:11 feathers yet. No, they are tear off little tiny pieces 04:13 and reach over ever so delicately. 04:15 This isn't need that is need. 04:17 They are so amazing and to be so fear such, 04:19 such fears hunters and to be able to be so gentle 04:21 with their young too it's get amazing thing. 04:23 So it gentle with their young they do that when they 04:24 come over I've always been impressed with that. 04:26 Now their as like most owls and hawks and things 04:30 that are nature they are greatest enemy is man, 04:33 man okay it's man we cut down all the trees 04:37 all the snags and all that and we pave over the 04:41 meadows for the who should live in the rabbits 04:43 around the edge were super markets and 04:45 shopping malls yes and so then they retreat 04:48 further back and further and further back 04:49 and so that really it said and those of us that loves 04:52 creatures it says that so see that because as 04:55 their habitat shriek we'll have less and less of them. 04:59 Exactly and it's really unfortunate 05:01 I mean they are hard enough to see even 05:02 that they are abundant they are very hard to see 05:04 around here so to be able to see when 05:06 I'm close is very it's a gist to be able to see that, 05:10 their chemoflage really looks they've got their feather 05:12 patterns that helps some to survive out in the owl. 05:14 They also has some pretty cool and characteristics 05:17 that help them to hunt and into height 05:18 and one of the first of which is that they can 05:21 turn their heads really far. All away around right 05:23 in turning over just about they can turn their about 05:25 270 degrees almost all the way around and the reason 05:29 they can do that is they have 14 bones in their 05:32 neck in humans only have 7 bones so they have twice 05:34 as many bones as we do.
