00:03 It's time to share there is a world out
00:06 there looking for a friend like Jesus, 00:10 it's time to share there is a world out 00:13 there looking for a friend like Jesus, 00:14 it's time to share there is a world out 00:15 there. Let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:20 Kids time, Kids time, Kids time. 00:24 Hi boys and girls, have you ever heard of Phoenicians. 00:27 The Bible tells us about them and in fact the 00:30 prophet Ezekiel, he talked about the Phoenician 00:33 city of Tyre. Now Tyre was one of the biggest 00:36 and the strongest cities in Ezekiel's time. 00:38 And you know what he predicted that Tyre would 00:41 eventually be attacked by many different nations 00:44 like waves of the sea and that they would be 00:47 completely destroyed and he added one more 00:49 thing. He said that it will be used for the 00:52 spreading of nets by the sea. Well guess what 00:55 today Tyre is nothing more than a pile of bare rocks 01:00 and the fishermen, they spread their nets on 01:03 the ruins. Well history is full of stories that 01:06 demonstrate that the people who wrote the many 01:08 books in the Bible were inspired by God, 01:10 and the story of Tyre is just one of them. 01:13 Well in our Bible story today we're going to 01:16 hear about a famous Phoenician named Lydia. 01:19 And like many Phoenicians she was a successful 01:22 merchant. Now the Greeks called the Phoenicians 01:24 the purple people, because they were know as 01:27 traders of purple. And Lydia was known as a 01:30 seller of purple because she sold beautiful 01:33 purple cloth. Do you know where all that purple 01:36 came from? The Phoenicians got all their purple 01:39 dye from a mollusk found in the Mediterranean 01:42 Sea off the coast. And a mollusk is a little sea 01:45 creature, like a little snail and it sort of makes you 01:48 wonder where we get all of our purple from 01:50 doesn't it? Well, I am sure you'll enjoy hearing 01:53 about what happened to Lydia. But first it's 01:56 time to visit with Ranger Jim. 02:05 Hi boys and girls, Ranger Jim saying welcome to 02:07 Nature Time, we're glad you can join us today, 02:09 we're in Knoxville, Tennessee at the Knoxville zoo. 02:11 And look what we have, isn't this a beautiful 02:14 creature? Nikki tell us what this is? 02:16 This is an American Peregrine Falcon, 02:20 he is gorgeous. Tell us something about him. 02:22 Well, and these birds have a really interesting 02:25 history and they were considered endangered 02:28 back in 1970, they were declared an endangered 02:30 specie. And they believe that DDT, a pesticide 02:33 was the leading cause of their disappearance. 02:35 And it got into their food chain; 02:37 the farmers were using it for a chemical pesticide 02:41 to help reduce the bug population that they had. 02:44 But it got into their water source and their eggs 02:46 became extremely brittle. So that when they went 02:48 to sit on them they would hatch. 02:50 They would crack and they wouldn't be able 02:52 to hatch. Much of them that affected, the eagles, 02:55 did it not? It did, and all those on top of the 02:57 food chain, exactly. Mention that briefly, 02:59 how does that work? Well it gets into the 03:01 water system and the smaller animals begin to 03:04 eat that, they'll eat the bugs and the things like 03:07 that in the water. Then the larger animals will 03:10 start to eat the rodents and it just continues to 03:12 go on and on. Then the higher up the chain 03:13 the more effect it has on it, okay, exactly. 03:15 Tell us something about their flight, it looks like 03:17 he's built for flight. They are, they are actually 03:19 pretty imaging animals, these are the fastest 03:22 animals in the world and they can dive out 03:25 of the sky with speeds of over 200 miles an hour. 03:28 You said 200 miles an hour, yes, amazing, amazing. 03:34 What do they feed on, they like to eat other birds. 03:37 Oh that's unfortunate, but that's what happens, okay. 03:40 Smaller birds, they will, actually they can catch 03:43 a bird about the same size as themselves and 03:45 they love pigeons. They've been reintroducing these 03:48 birds into cities all around the United States 03:50 and Canada. And they love to nest on cliff 03:54 tops out in the wild. So, in the cities they'll nest 03:57 in the really tall skyscrapers. 03:59 Well that's neat, then in Chicago or New York 04:01 upon the ledges you have the Peregrine Falcon. 04:03 And there's a very abundant food source there pigeons 04:07 so, pigeons and so, they really like them. 04:09 And most people don't feel too bad if they eat 04:10 an occasional pigeon, right, exactly. 04:12 Alright tell me now when they're nesting 04:14 how many eggs would they lay? I think they lay 04:17 about two to four eggs, it just depends. 04:20 Do both mother and father feed or, 04:22 actually I am not sure about that, 04:26 I couldn't tell you right off about which one 04:28 and I do believe mostly the mother would feed 04:30 but the father does occasionally help with 04:32 the mother or so. I would think that was 04:34 probably true with them too that, and then, 04:36 then when they're young fledged, do they stay 04:38 in the general area then of the parents are? 04:40 They do somewhat for a certain of time and 04:43 then they'll find their own area. And we actually 04:45 in downtown Knoxville have an area that we 04:49 have two that come back every single year and nest, 04:51 wonderful and then bird lovers are there to 04:54 watch and gather round the cloud of them like that. 04:57 Now do they have any natural enemies 04:59 or predators that would feed on them other than 05:01 man or. Well man is the number one predator 05:04 for them and they have to be pretty careful, 05:07 they're pretty fast so they don't have too many 05:09 predators but and the great horned owls might 05:12 try to get them if they're available. 05:14 It's mostly when they're young that they have 05:16 the hardest time and only about 80 percent 05:18 of birds make it through their first year, 05:21 so it's mostly, that's a tragedy because we find 05:25 that in songbirds and many other birds and 05:28 migration radio towers, television towers 05:30 and things like that. And most people don't 05:32 realize boys and girls how many collisions that 05:34 birds do have with wires and guy-wires on antennas, 05:38 smoke stakes and things like that in migration 05:41 that always saddens me, so we get around 05:43 smokes stack like that and see these tiny 05:45 beautiful little warblers that are in transition, 05:47 migrating and fly into things like that. 05:50 But this bird, it is carnivorous right it 05:53 lives on other birds like that. And you are just 05:56 beautiful, he has a nice song, doesn't he, 05:59 he sings like that, yes. Well it strikes fear 06:01 in the hearts of some birds. Right now let me 06:05 get this, we're getting this boys and girls from 06:07 an expert and this lady knows what she is talking 06:10 about, this bird can dive out of the sky at 200 06:14 miles an hour. They've actually been clogged 06:16 about 270, so over 200 miles an hour. 06:20 That is just unbelievable. We mentioned earlier 06:23 though that they had, that their story was 06:25 tragic that were placed on the endangered 06:27 species list but as of August 1999 they've 06:30 been taken off the endangered species, 06:32 alright, so that is a definite step in the right 06:34 direction. They're now just considered a 06:36 threatened species, but they still need the 06:38 assistance and they need us to be carefully 06:40 share the earth with them, exactly. 06:42 Oh wonderful, boys and girls, Ranger Jim telling 06:45 you don't forget to tell Jesus that you love him 06:47 because he really does love you. 07:00 Hey kids have you ever wondered about what 07:02 the pastor was preaching about? 07:03 One night a man came out to pastor Ackley. 07:06 He didn't understand about Jesus rising from 07:08 the dead and so he wondered why he should 07:09 serve somebody who is dead. Pastor Ackley 07:12 was so happy to explain that Jesus wasn't dead 07:14 but he is alive. Later as he was reading his 07:16 Bible Pastor Ackley understood in a new 07:19 way the words he is risen. Always ready 07:21 for new sermon ideas and songs, he wrote down 07:24 the words to the song he lives. The thought 07:27 of Christ being alive made the words come quickly 07:29 and easily. Just remember boys and girls 07:33 no matter what Satan did to Jesus on 07:35 that cross. Satan lost, Jesus won, he lives. 07:45 I serve a risen Savior, he's in the world today; 07:49 I know that he is living whatever men may say; 07:53 I see his hand of mercy; I hear his voice of cheer, 07:57 And just the time I need him, he's always there 08:02 He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today! 08:06 He walks with me and talks with me 08:09 along life's narrow way. 08:11 He lives, he lives, salvation to impart! 08:16 You ask me how I know he lives? 08:21 He lives within my heart. 08:30 Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, 08:32 Lift up your voice and sing. 08:34 Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King! 08:38 The hope of all who seek him, The help of all who find, 08:42 None other is so loving, so good and kind. 08:47 He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today! 08:51 He walks with me and talks with me 08:54 along life's narrow way. 08:56 He lives, he lives, salvation to impart! 09:01 You ask me how I know he lives? 09:06 He lives within my heart. 09:23 Welcome to learning time, I'm glad that 09:26 you've joined us today. Has anybody ever asked 09:29 you an impossible task to do, has anybody ever 09:33 asked you to do something that was impossible? 09:35 Well sometimes people ask us things and sometimes 09:39 we have problems that are just too hard for us 09:41 to solve. I've got a problem for you to try 09:43 to solve today. Now everybody has a pair 09:46 of scissors. If you have some scissors 09:48 and a piece of paper you can try this too at 09:50 your home because this is really fun and it's really, 09:53 really good science. Now I want you to hold 09:55 your paper up like this, and with our scissors 09:58 today we're gonna try to put a hole. 10:01 We're gonna cut a hole in a piece of paper big 10:04 enough, so that you can walk right through it. 10:07 In fact I've got Jesse right here. 10:09 Jesse is gonna help me and Chloe, and Jesse 10:12 is going to walk through a hole in a sheet of paper 10:15 that Chloe and I are going to hold and that's 10:18 going to be exciting. But first I want you 10:19 to try it, so why don't you try to cut a hole 10:22 in a piece of paper big enough for you to fit 10:26 right through it can you that, go ahead cut it. 10:28 Make that hole as big as you can and we are gonna 10:31 see if they can do this, because this is a great 10:34 project in engineering and design. 10:37 So we're just gonna cut this, we'll gonna make 10:39 that hole as big as we can, how are you doing, 10:42 you're doing good. Who's got their hole ready 10:44 already? Who's got it ready? Anybody got it ready? 10:47 I want to see you a hole, who's got it. 10:50 You got a hole over there; oh I am seeing one 10:53 over there. Oh look at there I can see you 10:55 through that hole, he is got a hole that he could 10:57 put his whole face right through but you know 10:59 what Jesse's got a walk through that hole in that 11:03 piece of paper. So how we are doing, 11:06 can I see yours? Let's take a look at Chloe's, 11:08 look at Chloe's, this is interesting. 11:10 Let's see can I walk through this, 11:12 I can get my head through there Chloe 11:14 I am not going to be able to do that, 11:16 so I'll tell you what? Let's see if we can 11:18 get Jesse, Jesse, can you walk through that. 11:19 It's not gonna, oh it's not gonna work, 11:22 it's not big enough. You know some times our 11:24 problems seem to be too hard for us. 11:27 And so you know how we solve those kind of hard 11:30 problems. We ask for help and somebody can 11:33 help us with those problems. And I got 11:35 a sheet of paper right here on my sheet of paper, 11:39 I have a plan, I have lines and dots and 11:43 if you're cut on the lines and if you fold on 11:47 the dots you'll be able to do what I did just 11:50 before this program. And here's my sheet of paper, 11:53 I am gonna hold it up, so that you can kind of see 11:55 this. I am gonna take the sheet of paper right off 11:59 of this index thing and let's see if this is big 12:03 enough and Chloe, Why don't you to hang on to 12:05 that part of it right there, okay and put your foot 12:09 kind of, oh oh, it just tore didn't it? 12:11 Well we'll put it right here, we're gonna glue 12:13 this thing back together, I'm gonna step on this 12:15 part right here alright and we're gonna hold it open. 12:18 Now Jesse can you walk through this piece of paper, 12:21 yeah, well go ahead, just step right through that. 12:24 Hey, give Jesse a hand, this is great. 12:27 If you ever want to do something that seems 12:30 to be impossible like making a hole in one 12:33 sheet of paper that sounds like its impossible 12:36 doesn't it? But it's not if you've got the pattern, 12:39 if you got the plan. You know there are people 12:42 that can help you, there are people that can 12:45 help me with our problems, all we have to do is ask 12:47 them. This is a great exercise in engineering 12:51 and design, isn't it? Oh yeah and you know 12:55 boys and girls who is the best person that 12:58 we can take our problems to? God. 13:01 Well it's Jesus because he can solve all our 13:03 problems if we just tell him about it he wants 13:06 to help us and he wants to take all of 13:08 our problems, that is what I really appreciate 13:12 about Jesus. Remember when we learn science 13:16 we're learning something new about our creator God. 13:36 Oh sir, sir, would you like to buy some pretty fabric. 13:41 Oh, I'm sorry, I can't but this fabric reminds 13:46 me of someone. Does it? Yeah. 13:48 Tell me about it, what is your name? 13:49 Oh I'm Claudia and you are? My name is Paul. 13:53 Paul. Yes, from Tarsus. Oh Are you the Paul 13:57 the Apostle, yes, yes. Oh well it's nice to meet 14:00 you Paul. Thank you, thank you. 14:02 This material reminds me of a lady named Lydia 14:06 from Thyatira, really I, selling purple. 14:10 I think I've heard about Lydia yes. Oh a lady, 14:13 do you know her well? Yes, yes. 14:15 We were visiting the village of Thyatira, yes, 14:19 traveling through. It was on Sabbath where we 14:22 walked out to the river. Oh it's so pretty at the 14:25 river, beautiful, its beautiful place. 14:27 And a great place to spend the Sabbath, yes, 14:30 what happened? Lydia was there with several 14:32 other ladies, we went over, sat down and just 14:37 started talking with them, yes. She asked me where 14:42 I was from, I told her, yes. But then I started 14:47 telling her the most important thing I know. 14:49 What was that? That is about Jesus Christ. 14:53 I've heard about him, I don't know much 14:57 but I've heard he's a good man, 14:59 I would love to tell you about him, would you? 15:02 Yes. He grew up in Nazareth, he was in a 15:06 carpenter shop, yes, and then he left the 15:11 carpenter shop went out into the wilderness. 15:14 Why did he do that? He needed time alone with 15:17 his God, you know in a busy village sometimes 15:20 you need to get away. Well he stayed away for 15:23 over 30 days, 40 days to be exact, so long, 15:27 so long. Called 12 men to become disciples and 15:31 then this Jesus went around the villages, 15:35 healing the sick, healing the blind, raising the 15:39 dead Claudia. No, it was really true, it's all true. 15:44 I heard things like that but I didn't know 15:46 if I should believe it or not you know. 15:48 Then you probably also heard that they took 15:51 him out and crucified him, yes, I did hear about that. 15:54 His disciples ran, but on Sunday he rose from 16:00 the tomb, he had conquered death, 16:03 the 12 disciples that had run in every direction 16:06 were now in the downtown village and telling about 16:08 him, is it really true? Yes, it is, I mean I had 16:11 heard something like that, yes. It's really true? 16:13 And I saw him myself, I was on a horse on the 16:16 way to Damascus, he blinded me and now 16:19 I'm his follower I can see and I can't wait until 16:23 he returns. I got to know more about this Jesus, 16:27 Lydia was the woman who was the most hospitable. 16:33 I want to tell you more Claudia; 16:34 oh I would love to hear more. Thank you. Paul, 16:39 yes, why don't you stay in our village? 16:43 Wherever they ask us to stay, we stay until 16:45 they throw us out, oh, we love to. 16:48 Then I can know more about this Jesus. 16:51 I'll see you tomorrow Claudia, okay thank you, 16:54 bye, bye. Thank you, thank you, 16:55 goodbye now, bye, bye. 17:12 He is Lord, He is Lord! 17:21 He has risen from the dead, and He is Lord! 17:32 Every knee shall bow, Every tongue confess, 17:43 That Jesus Christ is Lord He is Lord, He is Lord! 18:02 He has risen from the dead, and He is Lord! 18:13 Every knee shall bow, Every tongue confess, 18:24 That Jesus Christ is Lord. 18:42 Hi boys and girls it's time for Miss Brenda's 18:48 book of the day. And we have Skeeter the 18:51 Wildly Wacky Raccoon and its by VeraLee Wiggins, 18:55 it's Julius and Friends book four. 18:57 And let me just share this with you. 18:59 Skeeter! What are you doing now? 19:02 When Chris adopts an abandoned baby raccoon, 19:05 he finds out how much fun and how much trouble 19:08 a raccoon can be. From a tiny baby whose eyes 19:11 aren't open, to a busy and curious raccoon 19:14 whose eyes never seem to close, 19:16 Chris's pet keeps the whole family busy. 19:19 Skeeter, come back here with my crystal 19:21 peacock! Skeeter, stop changing the channels 19:24 on the TV! When Chris's brother begins to feed 19:27 other wild raccoons at the creek, Chris just knows 19:30 that these wild raccoons will lure Skeeter away 19:33 from him. What can he do to make his water-loving, 19:36 TV-watching, gross-bug- chewing friend stay with 19:40 him? Find out when you read Skeeter 19:43 the wildly wacky raccoon and you are gonna have 19:46 a lot of fun reading this book boys and girls. 19:49 You know we are also gonna have a lot of 19:51 fun in the program today and I'm so excited to share 19:53 with you some friends that are visiting here 19:56 all the way from Sweden and I'd like you to meet 19:58 them right now. This is Emmy and Emmy, 20:01 this is your mom Ann Christine. Now you don't 20:05 speak English, do you? And mom you're gonna 20:09 have to translate for me so she knows what 20:10 I am saying so, she doesn't speak English, 20:13 so her mom is going to translate right? 20:15 Yes. So Emmy, I want you to tell the boys 20:18 and girls what do you do? First of all let's 20:20 find out where in Sweden do you live? 20:22 [Foreign language] 20:26 In Burlov, outside Malmo, the southern part of 20:29 Sweden. The southern part of Sweden, 20:31 and have you enjoyed your visit to the United States? 20:35 [Foreign language] 20:38 Yeah, yes, very fun. Very fun, well that's good. 20:41 Well, I want to know, what you do in 20:44 Sweden to share Jesus? [Foreign language] 20:58 I have friends. [Foreign language] 21:08 And they ask a lot of questions why I go to 21:10 church, because normally children don't 21:12 go to church, Okay. [Foreign language] 21:22 And I have two friends and one is called Felise 21:24 and the other one is called Josephine 21:28 [Foreign language] 21:35 Once my friend Felise called me to ask 21:38 if she could sleepover at my house. 21:40 [Foreign language] 21:49 And we asked our parents if she could 21:51 sleepover from Saturday to Sunday. 21:53 [Foreign language] 21:56 But that did not work out. [Foreign language] 22:00 So instead she slept over from Friday to Saturday. 22:03 [Foreign language] 22:07 She followed us to church on the 22:09 Sabbath morning, on Saturday morning. 22:11 [Foreign language] 22:14 And we went to children's Sabbath school together. 22:16 [Foreign language] 22:22 And she learned a lot that she did not know before. 22:25 [Foreign language] 22:29 And then next weekend my other 22:30 friend Josephine called. [Foreign language] 22:36 And she also wanted to sleepover at my house. 22:38 [Foreign language] 22:44 And she could choose if she wanted to sleepover from 22:46 Friday to Saturday and come to church 22:49 or from Saturday to Sunday. [Foreign language] 22:55 And she chose from Friday to Saturday. 22:57 [Foreign language] 23:01 And she came to the children's Sabbath school. 23:03 [Foreign language] 23:09 And she also learned things and had fun. 23:12 Do you think your friend will come again? 23:13 [Foreign language] 23:17 She has been back. She has been back, and she, 23:20 well you know what you're gonna have 23:21 to just keep inviting her back. 23:23 [Foreign language] 23:26 I will do that. Yes, well I want to thank you so 23:29 much for being part of the program and 23:31 would like to stay and help me read some letters. 23:34 [Foreign language] Yes, we'll love that. 23:40 Okay well I might have some pictures you can 23:41 help me with, if we have any pictures, 23:43 you can help me hold them up, okay. 23:44 [Foreign language] 23:46 Let's see this one is from Riverside, California, 23:48 and let's see what this says. It says dear 23:51 Miss Brenda, I've already been signed up 23:53 and I have an activity book but we've been 23:55 hoping that you could please pray for a family 23:58 who lost their daughter, she was hit by a pickup 24:01 truck and had fatal head injuries. 24:04 The family is the Puska family, please pray 24:07 for them Miss Brenda, sincerely Cassie. 24:10 Well Cassie, I'm glad that you wrote me 24:13 and ask me, you know prayer is a very powerful 24:16 thing, and it's a sad thing when we lose someone 24:18 close to us isn't it? So boys and girls I would 24:20 like you to pray, everyone pray for Cassie, 24:23 for this family, the Puska family that had a 24:27 fatal injury there, I don't know. Like it said, 24:31 well they lost their daughter who was hit 24:33 by the truck. So we do want to pray for that family, 24:36 would you please. And thank you Cassie for 24:39 writing to us and telling us about it. 24:41 Let's see this letter is from Monique and it's 24:44 from Napa, Iowa. Let's see what Monique has to say, 24:49 she says hi Miss Brenda, my name is Monique 24:53 and I like watching your show, it inspires me to 24:55 learn more about the word of the Lord. 24:58 Could you please make me a part of your kids club 25:01 and send me an activity book, thanks, Monique. 25:03 Yes, Monique, I would love to do that and you know 25:06 what you will learn more about Jesus boys and girls. 25:09 I want you, if you're not yet signed up for kids club 25:11 I want you write to me today and let me get you 25:14 signed up, okay. There's another letter here 25:16 it's from Roselle and she's from St. Lucia 25:20 and let's see what Roselle has to say, 25:23 it says dear Miss Brenda, greetings to the 3ABN 25:27 family, I am a 7-year-old girl name Roselle, 25:30 living in St. Lucia with my grandparents 25:32 and I enjoy watching your program very much. 25:34 I come from school some afternoons and watch 25:37 Kids Time whatever I remember I would share 25:40 it with my friends.
