00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there,
00:07 looking for a friend like Jesus. 00:10 It's time to share there's a world out there, 00:13 let's tell them that He loves us so, 00:17 let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:20 Kids Time, Kids Time, Kids Time. 00:24 Hi, boys and girls. 00:25 Here is a knock or something 00:26 like this on your front door. 00:28 When people come to see you, they hear a sound like that. 00:32 Or may be your family likes people to knock 00:34 with their knuckles like this 00:37 or ring a door bell. 00:40 It sounds like this. Isn't that a nice sound? 00:43 Well no matter how we know 00:44 that friends are at our door, 00:46 we're usually pretty happy to see them, aren't we? 00:49 But what if they're not our friends? 00:51 What if it's the little boy next door 00:53 who just threw rocks at you 00:55 or what if it's the little girl 00:56 who stole the cookies from your lunch? 00:58 Should we smile at them 01:00 and be happy to see them too? 01:03 Someone once asked Jesus a very important question, 01:06 "Who is my neighbor?" Now they knew 01:09 that the scripture said to be kind to our neighbors, 01:11 but what about people they didn't like 01:13 or people that treated them badly. 01:16 Jesus answered their question 01:17 by telling a story and you're going to hear 01:20 that well-known story today. 01:22 But the short answer to the question, 01:24 who is my neighbor, is simply that anyone 01:27 who needs our help is our neighbor. 01:30 And Jesus wants us to love our neighbors. 01:32 No matter who it is, we should treat him or her 01:35 with the same love and the same kindness 01:37 that Jesus shows to everyone. 01:40 I want to encourage each one of you boys and girls 01:43 to always be loving and be kind, 01:46 just like the example that Jesus said. 01:49 Well before our story, we're going to join 01:51 Ranger Jim in Florida 01:52 and he is at Lake Okeechobee. 01:55 Now that's a big word, isn't it? 02:04 Hi, boys and girls. 02:05 Ranger Jim saying welcome to Nature Time. 02:06 We're glad you can join us today. 02:08 This is a very special thing for you to see. 02:11 We're overlooking beautiful Lake Okeechobee. 02:13 This is called Hoover Dike. 02:14 It was commissioned to be built 02:16 by President Herbert Hoover, hence it has his name. 02:18 Okeechobee is a word that means 02:21 "big water" and this is big water here 02:24 in Southern part of Florida. 02:25 This lake is 45 miles long and 32 miles wide 02:29 and it is a distribution point for water. 02:32 There are several streams 02:33 that flow into this large lake. 02:35 And from this lake then all the water, 02:37 it's sent south down through canals 02:39 of different kind of controls. 02:40 It goes to the sugarcane fields. 02:42 It goes to sweet corn fields, 02:44 tomato fields, and things of that nature. 02:47 There are some fields here in Florida 02:49 that tomato fields that have 500 or 600 acres 02:52 of tomatoes or sweet corn. 02:54 So much of the food perhaps that you eat 02:56 in the winter time comes from southern part 02:58 of Florida and the water is supplied from this lake. 03:01 It is a distribution point. 03:03 Now this levee was commissioned to be built 03:05 because it was a terrible tragedy 03:07 that happened here in 1928. 03:09 There was a hurricane and you perhaps 03:11 have heard of hurricanes that come into Florida 03:13 and one came and struck Lake Okeechobee. 03:16 And hurricanes have two sides- 03:18 the front side, the back side, 03:20 in the center there is a calm area 03:22 called the eye of the storm. 03:24 And so when this terrible storm 03:26 came in September of 1928 and struck Lake Okeechobee, 03:30 the water began to be forced in front of it. 03:33 The huge pressure of these hurricane storms 03:36 are pushing down on the surface of the ocean. 03:39 It causes the water to bulge out on the side 03:42 of the hurricane and this is called 03:44 a flood tide that flows ahead of it. 03:46 When the hurricane struck Lake Okeechobee 03:49 being as wide and long as it is and very shallow, 03:52 the water that you're looking 03:53 at behind me is no more than 16 feet deep 03:55 and the pressure of the hurricane began 03:57 to force the water northward and force it way out 04:00 into the farm country and the water was about 04:04 12 or 14 feet deep 04:05 in the City of Lake Okeechobee itself. 04:08 We have some members of our church here 04:10 in Okeechobee that remember as young girls 04:12 when the storm hit, they knew 04:13 their hurricane was coming. 04:15 So they took all of their valuables 04:16 and two of them remember carrying their Bibles 04:19 and picture albums above their heads to a building. 04:21 In Okeechobee, they were only two of them, 04:24 where two-storey building built of cement blocks. 04:27 Everyone rushed there to survive the flood waters. 04:30 When they got there to reach these buildings, 04:32 the water was up to their arm pits 04:34 and they got into the building 04:35 and they safely survived the storm. 04:38 Another member of our church lives 04:40 on the south end of the lake 04:41 and when the storm struck there, 04:43 his father had built a cement block building 04:45 for their safety. 04:47 And when the storm finally passed 04:49 and suddenly was as calm and beautiful a blue day 04:51 as it is today, blue sky shining. 04:54 The kids all said the storm is over. 04:56 Their father said you can go outside 04:57 for just a short time 04:58 because the storm is not over. 05:00 This is the eye of the hurricane. 05:02 There is terrible winds that will come again. 05:05 And so he allow them to cross the road 05:07 and cross the railroad track. 05:08 They went out and looked at this huge lake 05:10 boys and girls, if you could imagine. 05:12 When they went up, they grew up on this lake, 05:14 and when they looked at the lake there was hardly 05:16 any water in the lake. 05:18 There were just little ponds here and there. 05:20 They can see fish flopping everywhere. 05:22 Can you imagine such a thing? 05:24 All of that water had been blown northward 05:26 by the hurricane that was out 05:28 in the farm country. 05:29 But when the backside of the hurricane 05:31 came their father was a wise man 05:33 and he said quickly back into the shelter, 05:34 it will soon be that winds will be back. 05:37 They got into the shelter and they survived 05:39 but then the wind blew all of the water 05:41 from the North-end of the lake back southward 05:44 to the South end of the lake. 05:45 And it was traveling at such a speed, 05:47 such a wall of water that it just washed over 05:50 the homes and the buildings and the businesses 05:53 and until this day it's the greatest tragedy 05:56 of the loss of human life 05:58 here in the state of Florida. 05:59 Officially more than 1800 people died. 06:02 Most people believed it was nearer, 06:04 3,500 or 4,000 people that perished 06:07 in that terrible storm. 06:09 And so because of that tragedy, 06:11 President Herbert Hoover said we must do 06:12 something about that. 06:14 And so he commissioned that the core of engineers 06:16 came in and all around the edges of the lake 06:18 on the outside of the dike, the engineers, 06:21 dug a canal as 200 feet wide and 30 feet deep 06:25 and all that material was stacked up 06:27 and was shaped by huge big machines. 06:29 It's a 110 miles long, all around this lake 06:33 and I'm to happy to tell you that we've had 06:34 two terrible hurricanes after that, 06:37 without the loss of life. 06:39 The dike holes of water back and the people 06:42 around the lake now can rest assure 06:43 that they're safe when the hurricane comes, 06:45 the lake will no longer washout off its shore 06:48 and drown people as it did then. 06:50 And so that was a terrible tragedy 06:52 but we learned from that and I'm thankful 06:54 that this dike was built. 06:56 President Herbert Hoover was a geological engineer 06:58 by training in college and he knew 07:00 that if he put up something like this, 07:02 it would stop the hurricane force. 07:04 So we're glad that had happened. 07:05 So I hope you've enjoyed, boys and girls. 07:07 This is just another story of how God can lead us. 07:10 Hey, don't forget to tell a Jesus that you love Him, 07:13 because He really does love you. 07:29 Have you ever noticed how many times 07:31 God used birds in the Bible. 07:34 In the Old Testament, 07:35 Elijah was there- By the Book Cherith, 07:37 very hungry and God send a raven 07:39 with food to fed him and that raven 07:42 basically met life because without that bird, 07:45 his life was over. 07:46 In the New Testament, Jesus says that God loves 07:48 the sparrows but loves us even more. 07:51 Hannah Grace, what's your 07:53 favorite bird in the Bible? 07:56 I like the dove because God used 07:58 to show in the Bible. 08:00 You like the dove? You know, she is right. 08:05 God did use it a couple of times. 08:06 One time for Noah to show him, 08:08 yes you can start your new life out. 08:10 There is finally dry land. 08:12 And then when Jesus was Baptized, 08:14 God said this is my beloved son, 08:16 He sent down his love and the wings of the dove. 08:20 Andrew and I are going to play it, 08:21 and the Kids Time Singers you can sing, 08:23 On The Wings Of "Snow White Dove." 08:34 When trouble surrounds us and evil comes 08:41 The body grows weak and the spirit grows numb 08:48 When these things beset us, 08:52 He doesn't forget us 08:56 He sends down His love, on the wings of a dove 09:02 Here we go 09:03 On the wings of a snow white dove 09:08 He sends His pure sweet love 09:11 A sign from above 09:14 On the wings of a dove 09:19 When Noah had drifted on the flood many days 09:26 He searched for land in various ways 09:33 Though trouble he had some he wasn't forgotten 09:40 God sent down His love on the wings of a dove 09:47 On the wings of a snow white dove 09:52 He sends His pure sweet love 09:55 A sign from above 09:59 On the wings of a dove One more time 10:02 On the wings of a snow white dove 10:07 He sends His pure sweet love 10:10 A sign from above 10:14 On the wings of a dove 10:27 Hi, boys and girls. Welcome to Learning Time. 10:30 Now today we're going to do something really special. 10:33 In fact, you know, what I brought something 10:35 interesting with me. 10:37 What are these? Eyes. There are eyes. 10:40 You know, that God created us with five senses. 10:43 Now one of those senses 10:44 happens to be the sense of what? 10:47 Sight! Of sight! I'm seeing and I love my eyes 10:50 because they tell me something 10:51 about the world around us. 10:53 Don't they Hey, I want you to just today 10:55 to use just your eyes, 'okay. 10:58 So let's just use our eyes and I brought 11:00 two shapes with me today. 11:02 If we have to bunch of these shapes, 11:03 what could we make? Circle. 11:06 We can make a big circle if I had to bunch of these, 11:08 now each one of these is called an Arc. 11:11 Now I'm gonna hold this red arc 11:13 above the yellow one. 11:14 I want you to tell me which one looks 11:17 longer to you, which one? 11:18 Yellow. The yellow one does. 11:20 I'll tell you what, let's do. 11:21 Would you help me? I want you to stretch this. 11:24 We're gonna pull on this and we're gonna stretch 11:26 this out and we're gonna make this a lot longer. 11:28 Okay that's good, right there. 11:30 And let's see which one looks longer now, 11:33 which one looks longer? Red. 11:36 It's the red one but, you know, what? 11:38 If I put these two shapes together, 11:41 what do we now? Same size! 11:44 There are same size, do you know that, 11:47 that's what we call an Optical Illusion. 11:50 Now that means that our eyes, your eyes, 11:53 my eyes, they can play tricks on us. 11:55 When we think we're seeing sometimes 11:57 is really not true. 11:59 Isn't that interesting? 12:01 So, can we depend on what we see 12:04 as being real all of the time? 12:07 Oh, no because sometimes 12:08 what we see is really not real. 12:11 Now we've got to be careful what we look at, don't we? 12:14 But you know what? 12:15 God just didn't give us one sense, 12:17 the sense of sight. 12:19 He gave us how many senses? 12:21 Five! Five senses. 12:23 We've got the sense of? Listening! 12:25 Hearing, that's right and listening. 12:27 We've got the sense of... Smelling. 12:29 Smell. We've got the sense of.... 12:31 Sight. We have the sense of... 12:34 Taste. Taste, that's right and also the sense of... 12:38 Touch. Feeling and Touch. 12:40 Remember every time we learn something new 12:43 about science, we're learning something new 12:46 about our creator, God. 12:56 Husband, what happened? 13:01 I'll tell you. You know, I was going to Jericho. 13:07 And I was on the road that went to Jericho. 13:10 You know, where it goes down to that ravine 13:13 and there were big rocks on both sides. 13:16 And I was walking through there 13:19 and I started to get a bad feeling, 13:22 like someone was watching me. 13:25 And I, I kept watching and looking around 13:28 at the rocks and suddenly heard a noise behind me. 13:32 I turned around and looked, and there was a man running 13:34 asking me, a robber. 13:37 I turned around as fast as I could 13:38 but there was another robber standing in front of me. 13:41 And he grabbed me 13:42 and he threw me to the ground. 13:45 And then the other one caught up and they kicked me 13:50 and they hit me and they took all our money. 13:54 Everything we had saved. 13:57 I took my clothes and then before they left, 14:01 the big one took a big rock and he hit me in the head. 14:06 I felt a terrible pain and I saw a white flash. 14:10 Then everything went dark. 14:12 It's like someone blew out a candle. 14:17 I was unconscious in the ditch. 14:19 I don't know how long I was there. 14:23 And then I started to wake up 14:27 and I could look around a little bit. 14:29 I was afraid I was gonna die there in the ditch. 14:32 And then I heard a sound, someone was coming. 14:37 And I tried to look I couldn't see very clearly. 14:40 I looked and it was a priest. 14:45 The priest was coming. 14:47 Oh, God blessed me with the priest 14:49 to come and save me. 14:51 And I saw him coming. I didn't know if he saw me. 14:54 So I tried to reach out, I couldn't talk, 14:58 I felt like my jaw was broken 15:00 or something and I said, 15:04 uh... and he looked at me, 15:09 and you know what he did, 15:12 he walked away like I wasn't even there. 15:19 I thought God had abandoned me. 15:22 And then I heard a little while later, 15:25 the sound of another man coming down 15:27 the road and I looked, 15:30 I couldn't tell at first who it was, 15:32 but I could tell by his clothes, 15:36 it was a Levite, one of the members 15:39 of the tribe that takes care of God's temple. 15:43 And I thought God had sent a Levite to save me. 15:48 And I thought maybe he thought 15:49 I was already dead. I didn't know if he saw me. 15:52 So again I tried to reach out and call him, 15:55 uh, uh.... 16:00 and he came over by me. 16:03 And he looked at me. 16:07 And, you know, what he did? 16:09 He picked you up and took his town. 16:11 No. He turned and walked away 16:15 like I wasn't even there. 16:20 I thought I was gonna die for sure. 16:23 I felt like God had abandoned me. 16:24 If the priest wouldn't help me 16:26 then Levite wouldn't help me. 16:28 And there was no help for me. I started to cry. 16:34 I didn't think I would see any of you again. 16:38 I don't know how long I cried. 16:40 I laid there in the ditch and then all of a sudden 16:43 I was aware that there was some kind 16:47 of a shadow over me. 16:49 And I looked up and there was some 16:52 form there I couldn't see very well. 16:55 I can see it was a man. 16:57 And at first, I was excited 17:00 and then I saw it was a Samaritan. 17:05 Samaritan! My father always taught me 17:09 that the Samaritans were bad people, 17:12 evil people, dirty people, never trust them. 17:16 We used to tease them and spit at them 17:18 when I was a child. 17:21 But this man, he was standing over me. 17:25 I thought he might try to kick me or spit on me. 17:29 But he didn't, he know what he did. 17:33 He reached down to me and he picked me up 17:37 and he gave me a drink of water 17:40 and he treated me so kindly. 17:43 He very carefully took care of my injuries. 17:45 He bandaged my wounds and then he picked me up 17:49 and put me on his donkey and so carefully led me 17:53 back to town, talking to me all the way soothing me, 17:57 letting me know that I would be all right. 18:00 And then he took me to an inn, 18:03 where they let people stay overnight. 18:06 And he bought me a room with his own money 18:09 and he stayed with me, taking care of me, 18:12 all through the night. 18:13 He spent the whole night with me, 18:15 taking care of me. 18:18 And he went to the man who owned the inn 18:21 and he paid him for all the days 18:23 I would stay there. 18:26 And when I finally was well enough to get up, 18:29 I went and I talked to the man who owned inn 18:31 and I said, who was that Samaritan? 18:34 He didn't know. 18:36 I will probably never know his name. 18:39 All I know that he was a Samaritan, 18:43 a good Samaritan. 18:47 And he taught me an important lesson. 18:51 I used to think that many people like Samaritans 18:53 were bad and evil people, someway I was taught. 18:59 But now I know that's not the way God wants us to be. 19:05 He wants us to take care of each other. 19:07 You know, when that priest came 19:09 by me and then he walked away, 19:12 he thought no one was watching. 19:16 But someone was watching, and when the Levite 19:20 walked away he thought no one saw him. 19:23 But someone saw him, and when that Samaritan 19:27 came down and helped me, his enemy, 19:29 someone saw him too. 19:31 God saw him. And I think it made him smile. 19:35 Because when that Samaritan helped me 19:38 and when we help each other, it makes God very happy. 19:43 And we need to treat each other 19:44 the way God treats us with love and care, 19:48 not like enemies. 19:51 He taught me an important lesson 19:53 and I hope you all learned that lesson 19:55 from that Good Samaritan. 20:09 In the highways in the hedges 20:13 in the highways in the hedges 20:17 In the highways in the hedges 20:22 I'll be somewhere working for my Lord 20:26 I'll be somewhere working I'll be somewhere working 20:30 I'll be somewhere working for my Lord 20:35 I'll be somewhere working I'll be somewhere working 20:39 I'll be somewhere working for my Lord 20:43 If he calls me I will answer 20:47 If he calls me I will answer 20:52 If he calls me I will answer 20:56 I'll be somewhere working for my Lord 21:00 I'll be somewhere working I'll be somewhere working 21:05 I'll be somewhere working for my Lord 21:09 I'll be somewhere working I'll be somewhere working 21:13 I'll be somewhere working for my Lord 21:26 Hi, boys and girls. 21:28 I'm so excited today because I have Cheyenne 21:31 with me here and Cheyenne actually 21:33 wrote a letter to me didn't you? Yes. 21:34 And asked to be on Sharing Time 21:36 and here you are. 21:38 And I'm so glad you came. 21:40 Cheyenne what you do to share Jesus? 21:42 I told my friends about Baptism. 21:44 About Baptism! What is Baptism? 21:47 It's where you share your heart to Jesus. 21:50 And you want to give, give it your heart to Jesus 21:53 and you want to follow Jesus all the way. Don't you? 21:57 And did, now what did you do, when you actually Baptized? 22:01 Did you just get sprinkle with a little bit of water? 22:02 No, we get into water all the way. 22:05 You get, what did you do? Dunged under water... 22:08 You get dunged, you get under the water 22:09 all the way and you know what, 22:11 when you go into that water boys and girls, 22:13 we just bury all those sins right down into that water. 22:16 When you come up new, 22:17 you come up with all those sins, 22:19 God has forgiven all those sins and leave him behind, 22:21 we start a new life of Jesus, 22:23 isn't that wonderful? 22:24 Now are you going to be baptized soon? 22:26 Yes. You are. 22:27 And you're telling other boys, 22:29 your friends about Baptism. 22:30 Do you think any of your friends maybe will give 22:32 their heart to Jesus, will be baptized too? 22:35 That's wonderful, that makes you feel good 22:37 when we can share Jesus, doesn't it?
