It's time to share there's a world out 00:00:03.41\00:00:06.23 there, looking for a friend like Jesus, 00:00:06.24\00:00:09.87 it's time to share there's a world out there. 00:00:10.36\00:00:13.53 Let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:00:13.54\00:00:16.69 Let's tell them that He loves us so. 00:00:17.14\00:00:20.18 Kids Time, Kids Time, Kids Time. 00:00:20.65\00:00:24.36 Hi boys and girls, just look at this, 00:00:24.68\00:00:27.10 have you ever seen a sword before? 00:00:27.74\00:00:29.44 This one belongs to my friend Trent; 00:00:30.07\00:00:31.66 and he let me bring it today so 00:00:31.67\00:00:32.92 I can show it to you. You probably seen 00:00:32.93\00:00:35.20 pictures of swords or maybe you might have 00:00:35.21\00:00:37.88 visited a museum where swords were on display. 00:00:37.89\00:00:40.14 But the fact is that swords in the modern 00:00:40.87\00:00:43.46 world have become rather antique. 00:00:43.47\00:00:45.86 A reminder of a way of life that we really no 00:00:46.11\00:00:48.64 longer experience, still though we understand 00:00:48.65\00:00:51.90 the significance of swords. 00:00:51.91\00:00:53.57 We know they represent power and might, 00:00:54.50\00:00:56.63 and are weapons with which to fight a battle. 00:00:56.64\00:00:59.25 Whole armies used to fight with swords and 00:00:59.96\00:01:02.20 not so many years ago men used to settle an 00:01:02.21\00:01:05.01 argument by fighting one on one with swords. 00:01:05.02\00:01:07.83 Throughout long years of history people have 00:01:08.52\00:01:10.87 put a lot of trust in swords. 00:01:10.88\00:01:12.62 And you know it's sad but true, 00:01:13.08\00:01:16.01 most people have trusted swords 00:01:16.44\00:01:18.41 more than they have trusted God. 00:01:18.69\00:01:20.30 Today's Bible story tells about some people who 00:01:21.25\00:01:23.68 thought that big men with big swords were 00:01:23.69\00:01:26.94 stronger than God. Can you imagine that? 00:01:26.95\00:01:29.43 They hadn't learned that with God all things are 00:01:30.09\00:01:32.99 possible, and that if God is for us, 00:01:33.00\00:01:35.32 no one can stand against us. 00:01:36.02\00:01:37.94 Do you wonder what Bible story I'm talking about? 00:01:38.64\00:01:40.75 Well, you'll find out soon enough, 00:01:41.15\00:01:42.79 but first we are going to find out from 00:01:43.16\00:01:44.91 Ranger Jim just what a cicada is? 00:01:44.92\00:01:47.94 Hi boys and girls, Ranger Jim saying 00:01:55.65\00:01:57.23 welcome to Nature Time. Look what I have for 00:01:57.24\00:01:59.16 you today, isn't this a beautiful little creature? 00:01:59.17\00:02:01.63 Well, not really. I know boys and girls 00:02:02.18\00:02:05.29 like to use your imagination, 00:02:05.30\00:02:06.57 so would you use your imagination with me today. 00:02:06.58\00:02:08.61 And try to imagine that the day you were born 00:02:09.30\00:02:11.88 this tiny creature hatched 00:02:12.37\00:02:14.13 from a tiny little egg. It looked like a tiniest 00:02:14.14\00:02:17.20 little spider that you can hardly see, 00:02:17.21\00:02:19.16 and it was living underground, 00:02:20.02\00:02:21.30 it burrowed underground and found 00:02:21.31\00:02:23.28 some roots and it began to use his little mouth 00:02:23.29\00:02:25.77 parts and chew on them and suck out the juice 00:02:25.78\00:02:28.40 out of those roots. And when you celebrate 00:02:28.41\00:02:31.60 your first birthday and your mom and dad were 00:02:31.61\00:02:33.60 so proud of you this tiny little creature 00:02:33.61\00:02:35.85 was about 1/32nd of an inch long about that big 00:02:36.05\00:02:40.11 tiny little creature. When you were two 00:02:40.31\00:02:42.96 you'd look at this creature and you'd say, 00:02:43.49\00:02:44.80 hey you didn't grow very much, 00:02:44.81\00:02:46.23 and then your third year when you're getting 00:02:47.14\00:02:48.76 almost grown up, this was still a 00:02:48.77\00:02:50.85 tiny little creature. And then your fourth 00:02:50.86\00:02:53.37 birthday came he was still a tiny little thing 00:02:53.38\00:02:56.14 crawling in around in the ground, 00:02:56.49\00:02:58.11 grubbing around finding new roots 00:02:58.12\00:02:59.77 and sucking the nectar out of them, 00:03:00.07\00:03:01.70 just going about his business. 00:03:02.05\00:03:03.36 By now he had established a system of 00:03:03.37\00:03:05.24 little burrows where he went to this root and to 00:03:05.25\00:03:07.60 that tree, and feeding back and forth and all around. 00:03:07.61\00:03:10.29 And on your fifth birthday he was still a 00:03:10.52\00:03:12.40 little guy, and your sixth birthday he was 00:03:12.41\00:03:15.56 still underground, going around in the dark 00:03:15.57\00:03:18.17 sucking on the roots and enjoying his life, 00:03:18.18\00:03:20.56 his own little system of passage he followed 00:03:20.57\00:03:24.94 when he was looking for food. 00:03:24.95\00:03:26.13 And then something begin to happen, 00:03:26.48\00:03:28.96 he began to grow more rapidly, and on your 00:03:28.97\00:03:32.07 tenth birthday he was 2/3rds this size. 00:03:32.08\00:03:36.83 And on your eleventh birthday he was a little 00:03:38.29\00:03:40.42 bigger, and on your twelfth birthday bigger. 00:03:40.43\00:03:43.88 And when you became a teenager 00:03:44.44\00:03:46.82 boys and girls, this little creature dug a burrow 00:03:46.83\00:03:50.95 up to the surface of the ground and climbed up 00:03:50.96\00:03:54.17 on a plant in the day light for the first time in 00:03:54.18\00:03:57.32 its life, and the tiny little split on the back 00:03:57.33\00:04:00.39 of its shell that it left, it molted for the final 00:04:00.40\00:04:03.71 time climbed out of that lift, this old system, 00:04:03.72\00:04:06.63 the old skeletal system there and he climbed up 00:04:06.64\00:04:09.13 on a branch almost totally white and 00:04:09.14\00:04:12.40 became a totally different insect. 00:04:12.41\00:04:14.57 I'm going to lay this down and show you 00:04:14.58\00:04:16.37 now what it became? This is what it became, 00:04:16.38\00:04:19.48 a beautiful creature, this is called the 00:04:21.46\00:04:24.16 thirteen year cicada, because it takes thirteen 00:04:24.17\00:04:28.37 years of development underground to become 00:04:28.38\00:04:31.58 this, it stayed on that branch for two or three 00:04:31.59\00:04:34.27 days until the skeletal system firmed up and 00:04:34.28\00:04:36.95 became solid. Its wings developed, 00:04:36.96\00:04:38.81 all the veins that you can see here, 00:04:38.99\00:04:40.70 all the orange veins, the blood passing 00:04:40.71\00:04:43.19 there, and they harden up, was able to fly and 00:04:43.20\00:04:46.14 then it flew upon a branch and 00:04:46.15\00:04:47.53 begin to crawl. The male has a special 00:04:47.54\00:04:49.88 system on the bottom of his bottom, 00:04:49.89\00:04:51.39 a way of making a rattling sound, 00:04:51.40\00:04:53.63 and that's the way it attracts all of the lady 00:04:53.96\00:04:56.46 cicadas in the area. And that's not enough 00:04:56.47\00:04:58.77 and so the boys all get together on a tree 00:04:58.78\00:05:00.96 hundreds of them, sometimes thousands of 00:05:01.34\00:05:03.48 them and form a chorus. And you can hear it 00:05:03.49\00:05:06.72 every where in th forest, it's a constant 00:05:06.73\00:05:09.21 roaring, all the male singing and calling to 00:05:09.22\00:05:12.17 the females, and the females come and they 00:05:12.18\00:05:14.35 mate and produce eggs, then the female lays 00:05:14.36\00:05:17.02 eggs on the branch. And then as I told 00:05:17.03\00:05:20.28 you before those eggs hatch and that's the way 00:05:20.29\00:05:23.01 it's perpetuated. Now you may find 00:05:23.02\00:05:24.99 cicadas in the summer time, we have what we 00:05:25.44\00:05:27.53 call the local or dog day cicada and they 00:05:27.54\00:05:32.96 are year, once a year sometimes twice a year 00:05:33.39\00:05:36.50 they're more greenish in color flat. 00:05:36.77\00:05:38.91 They are the common cicada that 00:05:39.03\00:05:41.07 most people would find. When you find these 00:05:41.08\00:05:42.96 they are in great abundance. 00:05:42.97\00:05:44.35 My wife and I live on a 40 acre farm, 00:05:44.57\00:05:46.73 in some instances not on our farm but they 00:05:47.38\00:05:49.24 have been instances where they know 00:05:49.25\00:05:50.66 that there are one and a half million cicadas 00:05:50.85\00:05:54.31 to the acre, can you imagine that? 00:05:54.60\00:05:57.33 So that means on our 40 acre farm 00:05:57.76\00:06:00.02 there might be 60 million in an area where 00:06:01.00\00:06:05.28 these are hatching and I got this one by the way 00:06:05.29\00:06:07.31 in Southern Illinois, there was a hatch there 00:06:07.55\00:06:09.83 last year around Southern Illinois, 00:06:10.61\00:06:12.92 Kentucky and all down in that area. 00:06:12.93\00:06:14.81 And there were thousands of them on trees. 00:06:15.36\00:06:17.85 So a more normal population we'd 00:06:18.22\00:06:20.98 find at least a hundred thousand 00:06:20.99\00:06:22.57 of these to the acre. And everything eats 00:06:22.58\00:06:24.74 them the birds eats them, dogs eat them, 00:06:24.75\00:06:26.46 everything eat them. But they cannot effect 00:06:26.47\00:06:28.79 the population of the cicada, 00:06:28.80\00:06:30.24 they're so numerous. They are just a 00:06:30.49\00:06:32.48 wonderful creature to study, there are some 00:06:32.49\00:06:34.08 cicadas boys and girls that take seventeen 00:06:34.09\00:06:36.00 years, they wouldn't become an adult until 00:06:36.01\00:06:38.34 you had perhaps started dating, or graduating 00:06:38.35\00:06:41.49 from the high school, all that time they were 00:06:41.50\00:06:43.54 underground, but they came forth to the 00:06:43.55\00:06:45.26 beautiful sunlight the creature that God intended. 00:06:45.27\00:06:47.60 So, boys and girls we see once again, 00:06:47.61\00:06:49.31 God's wonderful hand in creation, 00:06:49.83\00:06:51.89 so as always. Ranger Jim saying, 00:06:52.31\00:06:54.00 don't forget to tell Jesus that you love 00:06:54.37\00:06:56.00 Him 'cause He really does love you. 00:06:56.01\00:06:59.04 Hello boys and girls, I'd like to introduce 00:07:07.12\00:07:09.39 you to the newest member of the 00:07:09.40\00:07:10.62 Kids Time family. His name is 00:07:10.63\00:07:12.69 Kurt Houghtaling. He's 5 weeks old. 00:07:12.70\00:07:17.22 I have two other sons Adam and Brandon 00:07:17.78\00:07:20.33 and a little girl name Hannah. 00:07:20.81\00:07:21.97 There's a guy in the Bible named Noah 00:07:22.81\00:07:24.26 who had three sons also, and they had a big 00:07:24.65\00:07:27.51 job to do. Their job was to build the 00:07:27.52\00:07:30.26 Ark to save the world. What a large job that is? 00:07:30.27\00:07:33.46 I am glad that we don't have to do that, 00:07:33.47\00:07:35.23 because God's promised He's never going to 00:07:35.72\00:07:37.06 send the flood again. We'd like to sing a song 00:07:37.07\00:07:39.79 for you right now about Noah and his sons. 00:07:39.80\00:07:43.17 Mister Noah built an ark, 00:07:53.70\00:07:56.28 the people thought it was a lark. 00:07:56.70\00:07:59.44 Mister Noah pleaded so, 00:07:59.88\00:08:02.51 but into the ark they wouldn't go. 00:08:02.52\00:08:05.79 And Rain came down in torrents. 00:08:05.80\00:08:08.51 The rain came down in torrents. 00:08:09.26\00:08:11.53 The rain came down in torrents. 00:08:12.11\00:08:14.36 And only eight were saved. 00:08:14.74\00:08:17.25 The animals came in two by two, 00:08:18.84\00:08:21.81 the big giraffe and the kangaroo. 00:08:22.03\00:08:24.88 They were safely stowed away 00:08:25.45\00:08:28.25 on that great and awful day. 00:08:28.51\00:08:31.12 And rain came down in torrents. 00:08:31.36\00:08:33.85 The rain came down in torrents. 00:08:34.72\00:08:36.93 The rain came down in torrents. 00:08:37.61\00:08:39.98 And only eight were saved. 00:08:40.37\00:08:42.87 When you see a rainbow 00:08:44.20\00:08:45.95 When you see a rainbow 00:08:46.52\00:08:48.89 When you see a rainbow 00:08:49.64\00:08:51.95 Remember God loves you. 00:08:52.33\00:08:54.50 Boys and girls, we'd like to teach you 00:08:56.28\00:08:58.34 the actions of this song, 00:08:58.35\00:09:00.45 are you ready? And boy, let me tell you, 00:13:05.95\00:13:08.84 it was something great. You know Moses told 00:13:09.03\00:13:12.02 us that it was a land flowing with milk 00:13:12.03\00:13:13.95 and honey and that sounded really good, 00:13:13.96\00:13:16.16 but it is better than milk and honey. 00:13:16.53\00:13:18.68 There's so many awesome things there. 00:13:18.69\00:13:20.96 It is a farmer's paradise, you can grow great 00:13:21.66\00:13:25.14 crops, not even have to work that hard, 00:13:25.15\00:13:27.15 and the climate is just very healthy. 00:13:27.61\00:13:29.94 We brought back some grapes and they were 00:13:30.46\00:13:32.79 bigger than my head, and they 00:13:32.80\00:13:34.46 tasted out of this world. I was so excited 00:13:34.47\00:13:37.60 because I knew that God would give us this land. 00:13:37.61\00:13:40.17 So we finished spying out the land, 00:13:41.07\00:13:42.97 and when we came back and the people 00:13:42.98\00:13:44.84 saw us far off in the distance. 00:13:44.85\00:13:46.77 And they said, the spies are back, 00:13:46.97\00:13:48.25 the spies are back, and we came and we got 00:13:48.26\00:13:51.70 in front of Moses and he quieted the crowds down. 00:13:51.71\00:13:54.53 And we started giving our report, 00:13:54.78\00:13:56.32 we told them about the land, 00:13:56.78\00:13:58.08 and how it was awesome, and how the farming 00:13:58.47\00:14:00.69 was good, and how the climate was good, 00:14:00.70\00:14:02.59 and we showed them the grapes. 00:14:02.72\00:14:04.16 We brought back a cluster that was so big, 00:14:04.46\00:14:06.98 it had to be carried between two guys on a pole. 00:14:07.23\00:14:10.73 And the people they caught our excitement, 00:14:12.40\00:14:14.31 and they started getting all antsy and ready to 00:14:14.60\00:14:16.92 go on and take the land. And then one of the 00:14:16.93\00:14:19.66 spies raised his hand and said, yeah this is all 00:14:19.67\00:14:22.70 good but, and when he said but something 00:14:22.71\00:14:27.21 in my heart dropped. He said, yeah, 00:14:27.22\00:14:30.71 yeah it's a good land, but there's giants there, 00:14:30.72\00:14:34.69 not just nice, sleepy kind of giants, 00:14:35.59\00:14:37.66 the big kinds with swords larger than my body, 00:14:37.86\00:14:40.73 who like to stomp on little guys like us. 00:14:41.04\00:14:43.35 And he told about the cities, and how they 00:14:43.94\00:14:46.30 were fortified, and how they had huge armies, 00:14:46.31\00:14:48.61 and chariots, and bows and arrows, 00:14:48.62\00:14:50.34 and the people started getting scared. 00:14:50.35\00:14:53.18 They started to forget what God had done for 00:14:54.09\00:14:55.96 us in the past. Then they started to get 00:14:55.97\00:14:58.65 angry, they shook their fists at Moses and they 00:14:58.66\00:15:01.56 say why have you let us out here to be killed? 00:15:01.57\00:15:05.03 We were better off in Egypt. 00:15:05.26\00:15:06.70 Moses tried to calm them down; 00:15:07.43\00:15:09.00 he tried to remind them what God had done for 00:15:09.23\00:15:11.56 us at the Red Sea. How God had provided 00:15:11.57\00:15:13.92 us manna and water in the desert, 00:15:13.93\00:15:16.74 but the people wouldn't listen. 00:15:17.22\00:15:18.57 I got angry, not angry at God, 00:15:20.21\00:15:22.96 not angry at Moses, but angry at the people 00:15:23.24\00:15:26.16 for forgetting about God, and how powerful He was. 00:15:26.44\00:15:29.55 I jumped up on a rock and I said people 00:15:30.03\00:15:31.98 listen, don't you remember what God 00:15:31.99\00:15:34.59 has done for you in the past? 00:15:34.60\00:15:36.01 All we have to do is be strong and courageous, 00:15:36.47\00:15:39.49 and God would give us the land. 00:15:39.83\00:15:41.96 The people got mad at me, 00:15:43.80\00:15:45.85 and they stooped down, they started picking up 00:15:46.42\00:15:48.31 stones and they got ready to throw them at me. 00:15:48.32\00:15:51.69 And I was, I was kind of scared for my life, 00:15:52.43\00:15:54.67 and then all of a sudden then there was a flash 00:15:55.50\00:15:57.39 and we looked and the tabernacle 00:15:58.44\00:16:01.17 was glowing with God's presence. 00:16:01.42\00:16:03.94 The stones were dropped and the 00:16:07.32\00:16:09.47 mumbling stopped, and everyone knew 00:16:09.48\00:16:11.58 deep down that he was in trouble. 00:16:11.59\00:16:13.94 Moses went and he prayed to the God 00:16:14.99\00:16:16.47 for a long time, and when he came 00:16:16.48\00:16:18.80 back he was very sad. He said that God said 00:16:18.81\00:16:22.97 because we did not trust in Him and because we 00:16:22.98\00:16:25.63 had no faith in God that he wasn't going to give 00:16:25.64\00:16:28.94 us the Promised Land just yet. 00:16:28.95\00:16:31.01 We had to go back out into the 00:16:31.91\00:16:34.21 wilderness to learn our lesson. 00:16:34.22\00:16:36.09 Now the people did something really 00:16:38.05\00:16:39.96 strange, God said take the land they said 00:16:39.97\00:16:43.08 no we can't, so God said go to the wilderness, 00:16:43.09\00:16:45.90 and they said no, no way, 00:16:46.08\00:16:47.21 I think we can take the land. 00:16:47.22\00:16:48.76 Moses tried to stop them, I tried to stop them, 00:16:49.43\00:16:51.90 but they wouldn't listen, they grabbed their 00:16:52.11\00:16:54.48 swords and their spears and they said we're 00:16:54.49\00:16:56.93 going to go get the Promised Land. 00:16:56.94\00:16:58.56 The land flowing with milk and honey is ours, 00:16:58.57\00:17:01.21 and they marched out. Later that night when a 00:17:02.60\00:17:06.83 few survivals straggled back, 00:17:06.84\00:17:08.68 my heart crumbled again to see them hurt 00:17:09.78\00:17:13.46 and wounded, and many of our friends not 00:17:13.47\00:17:16.18 there with us any more, made me sad because it 00:17:16.54\00:17:19.33 all could have been not happened 00:17:19.34\00:17:21.79 if we had have listened to God. 00:17:22.17\00:17:23.36 There were many tents that were crying that 00:17:25.61\00:17:28.09 night because they know no longer had a 00:17:28.10\00:17:29.40 father, or an uncle, or a brother because 00:17:29.41\00:17:32.89 they didn't trust in God. And so that's why we're 00:17:33.41\00:17:37.79 heading back out into the wilderness because 00:17:37.84\00:17:40.25 we have to learn our lesson. 00:17:40.26\00:17:41.64 We have to learn our lesson 00:17:45.98\00:17:47.05 to always trust in the Lord. 00:17:47.77\00:17:50.10 I am the way and the truth and the light. 00:18:03.96\00:18:09.15 I am the way and the truth and the light. 00:18:09.54\00:18:14.52 And no one comes to the Father 00:18:15.64\00:18:19.28 except through me, except through me, 00:18:19.64\00:18:24.92 I am the way and the truth and the light. 00:18:25.53\00:18:30.28 I am the way and the truth and the light. 00:18:30.84\00:18:35.65 And no one comes to the Father 00:18:36.89\00:18:40.24 except through me, except through me, 00:18:40.77\00:18:45.65 I am the way and the truth and the light. 00:18:46.72\00:18:51.23 I am the way and the truth and the light. 00:18:51.81\00:18:56.30 And no one comes to the Father 00:18:57.80\00:19:01.40 except through me, John 14 says. 00:19:01.80\00:19:08.09 Thank you to the Bond family 00:19:17.29\00:19:18.34 for that beautiful song.
