00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:07 Looking for a friend like Jesus 00:10 It's time to share there's a world out there 00:13 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:20 Kids time Kids time Kids time 00:24 Hi, boys and girls. What do you see here? 00:27 Just a piece of cloth, right, it's pretty 00:30 but it probably doesn't strike you as being anything special. 00:34 But if you have lived in the Bible times, 00:36 you would recognize this piece of cloth 00:38 as something very special and do you know 00:41 what makes it special? The color purple. 00:44 You look a little closer 00:46 and see richness of this beautiful purple 00:49 and you can see the gold thread 00:51 that's been woven through it, 00:53 very expensive, this piece of cloth, isn't it beautiful? 00:57 You know only rich people or royal people 01:00 or even very important people 01:02 could wear purple in Bible Times. 01:04 You know the ancient art of dyeing cloth 01:07 still holds its secrets. 01:08 But we do know that purple dye came from several sources 01:12 and the most highly priced 01:13 came from a special kind of seashell. That's right. 01:18 People spent all kinds of time collecting all these shells, 01:23 took them a long time to collect that many shells 01:25 and then they had to sort them, 01:27 for not all of them were good quality 01:29 and then there's special blending 01:31 and various processes, the dye was made. 01:34 And just to show you how expensive purple clothes 01:37 like this quality would be like? 01:39 It took 12,000 shells. 01:42 That's right, 12,000 shells to produce 01:45 just a little more than one gram of purple dye. 01:50 Now I don't know how to show you exactly 01:52 what a gram is, boys and girls, 01:53 you should ask your mom and dad to help you. 01:55 But it's a tiny amount. 01:58 Of course, there were imitations 02:00 in purple made from other sources, 02:02 but the royalty, they wore only the best. 02:06 You know in our Bible story today, 02:08 it tells us about a woman who was in business 02:10 and do you know what her business was? 02:14 She sold purple cloth and she probably knew 02:17 a lot of important people, maybe even kings and queens. 02:21 Her name was Lydia and you know, 02:23 Lydia knew other people who could not afford 02:26 to buy purple cloth and it didn't matter to them a bit 02:29 because they knew a King greater than anyone else 02:34 who ever walked this earth. That's right. 02:37 Lydia and her friends knew Jesus, 02:40 the King of Kings, King of creation 02:43 and He was the King of Love 02:45 and he was even the King of purple. 02:48 We'll hear that story soon, but right now, 02:50 Ranger Jim teaches us something about bees. 03:00 Hi, boys and girls, Ranger Jim here again. 03:02 We have another interesting show for you. 03:05 We brought along our bees for you to see today. 03:07 They're a very interesting insect. 03:08 I have spent many years studying them, 03:10 in fact, my wife and I have been 03:12 commercial bee keeper for many years, 03:13 that means that we have kept bees 03:15 and produced honey and used the income 03:17 from that to help to educate our children. 03:19 So, we have spent much time with the bees 03:22 and for many years, I have had an observation 03:25 hive like this in my wife's kitchen. 03:26 She is a very tolerant lady. 03:28 There is a tube in our kitchen, 03:30 it goes from this side out to the opening 03:32 so that the bees can go out into the field 03:34 and forage for pollen and nectar 03:36 and bring it back into the hive, 03:37 so we can study them. 03:39 We have three kinds of bees in the hive 03:41 and this afternoon, I'd like to point them out to you. 03:43 You can see the one with the yellow dot here, 03:46 she is much larger, she is more the shape of a wasp 03:50 and she has a little yellow dot on here, 03:52 that is not the natural state, 03:54 that dot has been placed there for identification 03:56 so that you can easily see here. 03:58 And if you look careful, you can see her 03:59 backing into a cell and laying an egg. 04:01 Many people have never seen that, 04:03 you are actually watching this queen bee here 04:05 with her body stuck down in the cell, 04:07 she is laying a tiny egg, then she will put out, 04:10 okay, she is coming out now. 04:12 You watch again, she will inspect the next cell, 04:15 rolling across the surface. There you go. 04:18 You may see attendant bees with her 04:20 that are carrying for her, they feed her, 04:22 they bathe her, they take care of her every need. 04:24 And if we come up just a little above that, 04:26 here we have a bee that has some white beat on him. 04:29 All right, I won't say only him 04:31 because he is a drone bee, 04:33 99.9% of all the bees in a hive are girls. 04:38 Now, my wife believes that's why the hive is so neat 04:41 and efficient and she goes on and on and on. 04:44 Now the girls do tolerate a few fat lazy boys 04:49 and they are the drone bees, 04:51 you see one here and he has a little white dot on him 04:54 for identification and the only reason 04:57 that they have a drone is if they have a new queen, 05:00 she will mate with the one drone 05:02 and then she will be fertile 05:03 to lay eggs for three or four years. 05:05 So I would like to talk to you just a little bit today 05:09 about the worker bee, all the rest of the bees 05:11 other than the drone and the queen, 05:13 these are all worker bees. 05:15 They are all lady bees and for all practical purposes 05:18 and the only bee in the whole hive 05:21 that can lay eggs is the queen bee. 05:24 The worker bee goes out into the field 05:26 and on her first trip, she discovers 05:28 that she has hair all over her body 05:30 and when she goes in the flower 05:32 to find the sweet nectar, she sticks her tongue 05:34 in the blossom and begins to suck out the sweet stuff. 05:36 It's like when you have a malted or a shake 05:39 and that's very good stuff, but when she backs out, 05:41 she discovers that she has all these grains 05:43 of pollen in her hair and she thinks 05:45 how can I get rid of that? 05:47 And she looks at her front legs 05:48 and it looks almost like a comb here 05:50 and she says I wonder. 05:52 So she begins to comb through her hair 05:54 and get all the pollen out and guess what? 05:56 It sticks right there and then she says, 05:58 I wonder how I could get that off. 06:00 And she glances behind her and on her rear leg, 06:03 there are some stiff bristly hair there 06:05 that's seem to correspond to these. 06:07 She says, "I'd wonder if that would work," 06:08 And she pulls it across and sure enough 06:10 the pollen falls right into the little basket. 06:13 She touches her finger to her tongue, 06:16 gets a little sticky nectar 06:17 and she caps it and makes it stick, 06:19 then she adds more to it. 06:20 And when she comes back to the hive, 06:22 she has two beautiful little pellets of pollen. 06:25 This is bread to bees. 06:27 Then they have honey and they have bread. 06:28 This is all that they need. 06:30 And so as she goes back and forth 06:32 and back and forth visiting the flowers, 06:34 I would like to just show you this afternoon, 06:36 if we had a bee that was trained 06:38 and we took this thimble and her name was Betsy. 06:40 Let's give her a name and we say, 06:42 Betsy, go out, there's lots of clover blossoms here, 06:44 fill this thimble for us and let's see 06:46 how long it would take you, out she goes 06:48 and she hurries back and forth, and back and forth. 06:50 She's gone sometime when she finally comes back we say, 06:54 oh, no, you've been gone so long. 06:57 How much did you bring? 06:58 And we look and there is a tiny speck. 07:01 We find that if that bee going back and forth 07:04 to all the blossoms, she would visit 07:06 an average of 1,500 blossoms and in order to fill thimble, 07:11 she would make a 150 trips. 07:14 If it would possible my friends 07:16 for one bee to collect this one pound jar of honey, 07:20 she would have to work seven days a week, 07:24 365 days a year for three and a half years 07:29 and she would fly the equivalent 07:31 of three times around this earth. 07:34 So, when you put honey on your toast, enjoy it, 07:38 but someone did a lot of work, okay. 07:40 Once again, why did Jesus make the bees? 07:43 Because they are His pollinators, 07:46 they are the ones that pollinate muskmelons 07:48 and apple blossoms and oranges 07:50 and all the fruits and things that we so enjoy. 07:53 So, you remember that, 07:54 Jesus always gets it right, doesn't He? 07:57 Ranger Jim asking you again to remember to tell Jesus 08:01 that you love Him because He really does love you. 08:12 Hello, boys and girls, we have been called 08:14 to be soldiers for Jesus Christ. 08:17 Adam's text is from Second Timothy 2 verse 4. 08:22 Sharing the troubles we have, 08:23 such a man is a true soldier of Jesus Christ. 08:27 Boys and girls, Onward Christian Soldiers. 08:34 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 08:42 With the cross of Jesus going on before 08:50 Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe 08:57 Forward into battle see His banners go! 09:05 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 09:13 With the cross of Jesus going on before 09:20 Boys and girls, please march and sing with us. 09:24 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 09:32 With the cross of Jesus going on before 09:39 Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe 09:47 Forward into battle see His banners go! 09:54 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 10:02 With the cross of Jesus going on before 10:19 Well, boys and girls. 10:20 Welcome to the Kids Time Kitchen 10:22 and we've got Brittney in the kitchen. Hi, Brittney. 10:25 I heard that you're gonna showing me how to make what? 10:28 Potato salad. Potato salad, okay, girl, 10:31 you go ahead on, go ahead and read the recipe. 10:50 Wow, that sounds very interesting, 10:52 but you know what? 10:53 The last time we had a program, 10:55 our Curtis came in and he was messing with me and Shenise, 10:57 so I think you better get started, 10:58 'cause somebody told me he was trying to come on 10:59 the set to mess with us. Okay. 11:04 This is our soy mayonnaise. Okay. 11:08 I like this mayonnaise. It's the best. 11:10 That one's a good one, huh. All right. 11:13 We got that soy mayonnaise going in 11:15 and what else goes in there? Relish. 11:18 Okay, and then you said lemon juice, huh, 11:20 that's better for us I guess. 11:22 Yes, lemon juice. All right. 11:26 It's looking good already. It's looking good already. 11:29 What's that? This is our-- 11:33 That's green onions there? Green onions and-- 11:37 You put the celery in there, huh? The celery. 11:39 Did you put those in together like that? 11:41 Yes. It looks better this way, you know. 11:44 Okay. And what are you gonna do now? 11:46 We gonna stir it well, fold it together, 11:49 so we don't crush the potatoes. 11:53 When you did those potatoes, 11:54 was there any kind of special thing, 11:56 you said something about the five cups of water. 11:57 Yes. You... After you, steamed it, 12:04 you poke a fork in it and then you just start 12:10 to peeling with your plastic knife. Oh. 12:14 And make sure you ask for an adult's help. 12:17 Okay and then what else you gonna keep on stirring that? 12:20 Yes. And get that together, huh, 12:22 I guess it takes a little while to do that, huh? Yes. 12:25 Oh, you better, you better move on and what... 12:27 Why do you have that onion over there 12:28 like that or what that, is that a ruler? 12:30 Yes. And just gonna cut it like this. 12:38 Uh, this is to keep it even. Can I start a little bit? 12:40 Can I help out here? Because I wanna know-- 12:42 Okay, thank you so much. 12:47 Okay. And then you're gonna put that-- 12:50 I guess you do up until you get well a half a cup of salt. 12:53 Yes. Okay. And you just keep doing small? 12:56 I like that idea of the ruler. Okay and then what? 13:00 And then, just go back to the potato salad 13:05 and it's looking good. It's looking good. 13:07 And I think it's smelling good too 13:09 because I heard somebody coming. 13:10 I know I just can't believe this. Okay, let's see. 13:13 Let's hurry up and get this thing going here, huh. 13:21 Do I smell potato salad? Yes. 13:24 Hi, boys and girls, this looks good. 13:27 Now did you make this yourself? Yes. 13:29 Now does it taste good? I don't know. 13:32 Well then let's find out. I have my spoon here. 13:35 It's my spoon. I think her spoon is bigger. 13:38 Where is your spoon? 13:39 Yeah, he is in the kitchen, messing around-- 13:41 I like that spoon. Okay, here we go. 13:43 I have to open up my mouth. 13:52 Well, this show is coming to an end 13:54 and I can't believe you, Curtis. 13:55 He ate quite a bit of that didn't he? Go, go. 13:58 I'll be right back, don't finish that, okay. 14:02 Well, I can't Brittney, what do you think? 14:05 Are we gonna have enough left for everybody else to eat? 14:08 Yes. You sure gave him a big whole piece of that, girl. 14:11 Well, so everything is in there 14:12 and I guess at that point 14:13 we need to probably look at the, 14:14 what the finished product looks like, huh? 14:17 And this is our finished product. 14:19 Oh, look at that. Why don't you put out on front there? 14:22 Wow, Brittney, so once again, 14:25 it has everything on there, huh? 14:26 I like the way you decorate with that parsley. 14:28 That is gorgeous. Are you-- ate that all by yourself. 14:32 I think I'm gonna have to share it. 14:33 You gonna share it? Is it too much for you? 14:36 Yes. I guess you have to watch out 14:37 for your girlish figure or something like that. 14:39 But you notice that Curtis didn't have no problem with it. 14:43 Well, what do we wanna say to our boys and girls, 14:45 as we're getting ready to bring our program to an end. 14:47 And remember to keep cooking and eat healthy. 14:59 This is a beautiful shade. 15:02 How about a deeper shade of purple? 15:04 Oh, I have just the thing. 15:06 Your wife will look lovely in this. 15:10 Oh, wise choice, sir. Thank you so much. 15:14 We'll see you next week. 15:17 Hi, my name is Lydia. 15:20 I sell beautiful purple cloth to the people of Philippi. 15:24 Well, at least to those that can afford it. 15:26 You see, there are only a few of us 15:28 that are skilled at dyeing fabrics 15:30 this particular shade of purple. 15:33 We use secret formulas 15:35 made from the shellfish found in this area. 15:38 These are special dyes that we used to create 15:41 these unique pieces of cloth. 15:43 The shades of purple range from a reddish deep tone 15:48 like this to a purple shade. 15:52 This process is very time consuming and costly, 15:56 only the wealthy people can afford 15:58 to have their clothing made from this cloth. 16:01 So, you can see that my job 16:04 is very important to commercial trade. 16:07 I have become quite successful. 16:09 I have my own house and servants who work for me. 16:14 My unique position as a woman in business 16:16 gives me the opportunity to meet and travel 16:20 and meet all kinds of interesting people. 16:24 I have made many close friendships 16:26 with some of the women here in Philippi. 16:29 When we get a chance, we go down to the river, 16:32 to a place outside the city gates 16:34 where we can fellowship together. 16:36 One day, I saw a group of women 16:39 sat by the river worshiping together, 16:41 some men from Tarsus came and began to speak to us. 16:45 Their names were Paul and Silas. 16:48 As I listened to the words they were speaking, 16:51 the Lord opened my heart and I gave my life to God. 16:56 Paul baptized me and everyone in my household, 17:00 I invited Paul and Silas to come and stay in my house. 17:05 They didn't want to at first, but I insisted 17:08 they accepted my hospitality. 17:11 One day, as we were making our way to a place of prayer 17:14 by the river, we were followed by a young slave girl 17:18 who was obsessed by an evil spirit. 17:22 She said she would, she would follow us 17:24 and she would be shouting things to us along the way. 17:28 Finally, after many days, Paul turned to her 17:31 and commanded the evil spirit to leave her. 17:35 When her owners learned this, they became very angry. 17:39 They had Paul and Silas beaten and thrown into prison. 17:45 When I learned about this, I and my whole household 17:48 began praying for Paul and Silas. 17:52 Paul and Silas weren't angry. 17:54 They began praying and singing hymns to their God. 17:58 The other prisoners were listening to them. 18:02 About midnight, there came an earthquake 18:05 and it shook the prison so hard 18:07 that the prison doors flew open, 18:10 the chains fell off the prisoners. 18:13 And the jailor came running into the dark prison. 18:18 He was so worried 18:20 that his prisoners were going to escape. 18:22 Then he was going to kill himself. 18:25 In those days, if the jailor 18:27 let any of his prisoners escape, 18:29 he would be put to death in a horrible way. 18:33 Then, just as the jailor was about to kill himself, 18:38 Paul called out and through that dark prison 18:41 and told him, don't kill yourself, 18:45 all the prisoners are still here, 18:47 none have escaped. 18:50 As a result, the jailor and everyone in his family 18:55 gave their hearts to God 18:57 and they were baptized that very night. 19:01 When it was daylight, Paul and Silas 19:04 were let out off prison and they came to my house. 19:08 Well, when they arrived at my house, 19:10 do you know what they started doing? 19:12 They began encouraging the people 19:14 who had gathered there. Can you believe it? 19:17 They were encouraging us. 19:21 They could only stay a little while longer at my house 19:24 for they were on the way to Thessalonica 19:26 and many other towns, preaching the word of God 19:29 to all who would listen. Do you know? 19:33 I was the very first person Paul baptized in Europe 19:37 and the first member of the church of Philippi, 19:40 which started right here in my home. 19:45 I am glad that I invited 19:47 Paul and Silas to stay in my home. 19:50 Do you know, I will keep inviting people to my home. 19:53 For that is how I can share the love of God with others. 19:58 Whenever your friends come over to your house, 20:01 remember to share God's love with them. 20:13 Hi, boys and girls. 20:15 You are just in time to sing a song with us. 20:17 I'm here with my little granddaughter, Hayley Kay. 20:19 I love you, Hayley. 20:21 You are special to papa and I want you to sing 20:23 a special song with all of our boys and girls 20:26 today called, Jesus loves me. 20:28 Would you sing that for me right now? 20:30 Would you sit right here by papa a minute? 20:32 Did you know in different parts of the world, 20:34 children sing the same song, only it sounds different? 20:38 Listen, in some parts of the world, 20:39 where papa's been over in the Philippines or maybe Japan. 20:43 It sounds something like this. 20:50 Or in Southern Illinois and Nashville, Tennessee area, 20:55 it could sound like this a little bit country. 21:05 You see, everywhere around the world, 21:08 people sing it differently 21:09 but we're singing the same song. 21:12 Jesus loves me! This I know 21:14 For the Bible tells me so Little ones to Him belong 21:19 They are weak, but He is strong 21:21 Let's sing the chorus together, okay. 21:23 All right, you sing this with me. 21:25 Yes, Jesus loves me! Sing it whole now. 21:30 Yes, Jesus loves me Yes, Jesus loves me 21:38 The Bible tells me so 21:42 At home, you weren't singing loud enough. 21:44 We need you boys and girls at home 21:46 to sing so loud that your neighbors can hear you. 21:49 One more time with this, okay, Hayley. 21:51 Yes, Jesus loves me Yes, Jesus loves me 22:00 Yes, Jesus loves me The Bible tells me so 22:07 That was good. Thank you. 22:16 Thank you, Hayley and Danny for that beautiful song. 22:19 I never get tired of hearing those words, 22:20 Jesus loves me. 22:22 I've invited a guest to join me on Sharing Time 22:25 and here he is, right now, let's see if it is... 22:28 Yes, it is. Hi, Daniel, how are you today? Fine. 22:31 And you brought something with you, oh. 22:33 Let me help you here. Wow! 22:35 What have you brought with you today? Uh. 22:38 While you drag that--while you pull that over there? 22:40 I'll stop and get the mail out of the mailbox. 22:42 Yes, we have some letters. 22:44 Oh, does that look beautiful, Daniel? 22:48 Wow, this is really something, isn't it, boys and girls? 22:53 I can't wait to hear about this. 22:54 Is this something that you need 22:55 to have anything to do with Jesus? 22:57 Yes. It does? Can you tell me what it is? 23:00 What do you do to share with Jesus? 23:03 Okay. Well, first of all, what I do is I have this jar 23:09 and it's called the Jesus' jar. Now that's a pretty jar. 23:11 It got pictures all over. What is that? 23:13 It's called a Jesus jar. A Jesus jar? 23:15 I don't think I ever saw a Jesus jar before. 23:18 What I gonna do is, I put my money in here 23:20 when I find money or when I earn money-- 23:24 And what you do to earn money? 23:25 Well, like I watered my mother's plants 23:28 and so she gave me some money for that 23:32 and I also got some money from-- 23:37 Your sister? Yes. 23:38 How did you get money from your sister? 23:40 I emptied the dishwasher for her. 23:42 And she paid you to do that? Yes. 23:44 That's pretty good. And so all the money, 23:47 that you make goes into the Jesus jar? Yes. 23:49 And then what does the Jesus jar do? 23:51 Then what I do is I take it to the soup kitchen 23:54 and I give it to them so that they can feed people. 23:57 Well, that's a wonderful... 23:58 Well, how does the Jesus jar have anything to do with this? 24:02 Well, I am going to take these-- 24:06 I take things like this to the soup kitchen. 24:09 I'll give it to them-- 24:10 Do you buy this at the grocery store 24:11 or do you have a garden? Well, I get it from my garden. 24:13 You're growing a garden? Yes. 24:15 And do you pray and ask Jesus 24:16 to help your garden grow? 24:18 Yes. You do? 24:20 And I'm going-- and it helps them feed people. 24:27 Well, you sure have some wonderful produce here. 24:30 I can smell that cantaloupe clear over here, 24:32 that's smells good enough to eat 24:33 and there's beautiful red tomatoes and cucumbers 24:36 and what is this over here? 24:37 Corn. Corn and... Wow, that's a big watermelon. 24:42 And what is this over here? 24:43 There are some pictures of my pumpkin. 24:45 Of your pumpkins? Let's take a look. 24:47 Can I take a look? Sure. 24:48 Okay, oh, look at this, boys and girls. 24:51 It's green because it's not riped yet. 24:53 It's not ripe? Well then, what's this one right in here? 24:56 That's one that is ripe. It's almost ripe there. 24:58 You can see a little bit green on, 25:00 that's looking pretty good, isn't it?
