It's time to share there's a world out there 00:00:03.17\00:00:07.05 Looking for a friend like Jesus 00:00:07.06\00:00:10.09 It's time to share there's a world out there 00:00:10.10\00:00:13.47 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:00:13.48\00:00:16.75 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:00:16.76\00:00:20.29 Kids time Kids time Kids time 00:00:20.30\00:00:24.61 Hi, boys and girls. What do you see here? 00:00:24.62\00:00:27.71 Just a piece of cloth, right, it's pretty 00:00:27.72\00:00:30.74 but it probably doesn't strike you as being anything special. 00:00:30.75\00:00:34.26 But if you have lived in the Bible times, 00:00:34.27\00:00:36.60 you would recognize this piece of cloth 00:00:36.61\00:00:38.62 as something very special and do you know 00:00:38.63\00:00:41.43 what makes it special? The color purple. 00:00:41.44\00:00:44.93 You look a little closer 00:00:44.94\00:00:46.23 and see richness of this beautiful purple 00:00:46.24\00:00:49.55 and you can see the gold thread 00:00:49.56\00:00:51.30 that's been woven through it, 00:00:51.31\00:00:53.61 very expensive, this piece of cloth, isn't it beautiful? 00:00:53.62\00:00:57.80 You know only rich people or royal people 00:00:57.81\00:01:00.12 or even very important people 00:01:00.13\00:01:02.04 could wear purple in Bible Times. 00:01:02.05\00:01:04.84 You know the ancient art of dyeing cloth 00:01:04.85\00:01:07.01 still holds its secrets. 00:01:07.02\00:01:08.70 But we do know that purple dye came from several sources 00:01:08.71\00:01:12.40 and the most highly priced 00:01:12.41\00:01:13.79 came from a special kind of seashell. That's right. 00:01:13.80\00:01:18.46 People spent all kinds of time collecting all these shells, 00:01:18.47\00:01:23.46 took them a long time to collect that many shells 00:01:23.47\00:01:25.92 and then they had to sort them, 00:01:25.93\00:01:27.52 for not all of them were good quality 00:01:27.53\00:01:29.81 and then there's special blending 00:01:29.82\00:01:31.77 and various processes, the dye was made. 00:01:31.78\00:01:34.95 And just to show you how expensive purple clothes 00:01:34.96\00:01:37.58 like this quality would be like? 00:01:37.59\00:01:39.43 It took 12,000 shells. 00:01:39.44\00:01:42.52 That's right, 12,000 shells to produce 00:01:42.53\00:01:45.84 just a little more than one gram of purple dye. 00:01:45.85\00:01:50.34 Now I don't know how to show you exactly 00:01:50.35\00:01:52.47 what a gram is, boys and girls, 00:01:52.48\00:01:53.74 you should ask your mom and dad to help you. 00:01:53.75\00:01:55.89 But it's a tiny amount. 00:01:55.90\00:01:58.82 Of course, there were imitations 00:01:58.83\00:02:00.21 in purple made from other sources, 00:02:00.22\00:02:02.23 but the royalty, they wore only the best. 00:02:02.24\00:02:06.18 You know in our Bible story today, 00:02:06.19\00:02:08.11 it tells us about a woman who was in business 00:02:08.12\00:02:10.78 and do you know what her business was? 00:02:10.79\00:02:13.99 She sold purple cloth and she probably knew 00:02:14.00\00:02:17.36 a lot of important people, maybe even kings and queens. 00:02:17.37\00:02:21.91 Her name was Lydia and you know, 00:02:21.92\00:02:23.95 Lydia knew other people who could not afford 00:02:23.96\00:02:26.82 to buy purple cloth and it didn't matter to them a bit 00:02:26.83\00:02:29.91 because they knew a King greater than anyone else 00:02:29.92\00:02:34.29 who ever walked this earth. That's right. 00:02:34.30\00:02:37.73 Lydia and her friends knew Jesus, 00:02:37.74\00:02:40.22 the King of Kings, King of creation 00:02:40.23\00:02:43.70 and He was the King of Love 00:02:43.71\00:02:45.69 and he was even the King of purple. 00:02:45.70\00:02:48.01 We'll hear that story soon, but right now, 00:02:48.02\00:02:50.55 Ranger Jim teaches us something about bees. 00:02:50.56\00:02:54.04 Hi, boys and girls, Ranger Jim here again. 00:03:00.90\00:03:02.90 We have another interesting show for you. 00:03:02.91\00:03:05.11 We brought along our bees for you to see today. 00:03:05.12\00:03:07.43 They're a very interesting insect. 00:03:07.44\00:03:08.93 I have spent many years studying them, 00:03:08.94\00:03:10.44 in fact, my wife and I have been 00:03:10.45\00:03:12.22 commercial bee keeper for many years, 00:03:12.23\00:03:13.76 that means that we have kept bees 00:03:13.77\00:03:15.07 and produced honey and used the income 00:03:15.08\00:03:17.57 from that to help to educate our children. 00:03:17.58\00:03:19.35 So, we have spent much time with the bees 00:03:19.36\00:03:22.23 and for many years, I have had an observation 00:03:22.24\00:03:25.01 hive like this in my wife's kitchen. 00:03:25.02\00:03:26.75 She is a very tolerant lady. 00:03:26.76\00:03:28.53 There is a tube in our kitchen, 00:03:28.54\00:03:30.03 it goes from this side out to the opening 00:03:30.04\00:03:32.59 so that the bees can go out into the field 00:03:32.60\00:03:34.73 and forage for pollen and nectar 00:03:34.74\00:03:36.65 and bring it back into the hive, 00:03:36.66\00:03:37.92 so we can study them. 00:03:37.93\00:03:39.59 We have three kinds of bees in the hive 00:03:39.60\00:03:41.63 and this afternoon, I'd like to point them out to you. 00:03:41.64\00:03:43.81 You can see the one with the yellow dot here, 00:03:43.82\00:03:46.23 she is much larger, she is more the shape of a wasp 00:03:46.24\00:03:50.10 and she has a little yellow dot on here, 00:03:50.11\00:03:51.98 that is not the natural state, 00:03:51.99\00:03:54.37 that dot has been placed there for identification 00:03:54.38\00:03:56.66 so that you can easily see here. 00:03:56.67\00:03:58.28 And if you look careful, you can see her 00:03:58.29\00:03:59.60 backing into a cell and laying an egg. 00:03:59.61\00:04:01.69 Many people have never seen that, 00:04:01.70\00:04:03.73 you are actually watching this queen bee here 00:04:03.74\00:04:05.72 with her body stuck down in the cell, 00:04:05.73\00:04:07.75 she is laying a tiny egg, then she will put out, 00:04:07.76\00:04:10.38 okay, she is coming out now. 00:04:10.39\00:04:12.16 You watch again, she will inspect the next cell, 00:04:12.17\00:04:15.63 rolling across the surface. There you go. 00:04:15.64\00:04:18.52 You may see attendant bees with her 00:04:18.53\00:04:20.16 that are carrying for her, they feed her, 00:04:20.17\00:04:22.05 they bathe her, they take care of her every need. 00:04:22.06\00:04:24.95 And if we come up just a little above that, 00:04:24.96\00:04:26.91 here we have a bee that has some white beat on him. 00:04:26.92\00:04:29.80 All right, I won't say only him 00:04:29.81\00:04:30.99 because he is a drone bee, 00:04:31.00\00:04:33.27 99.9% of all the bees in a hive are girls. 00:04:33.28\00:04:38.16 Now, my wife believes that's why the hive is so neat 00:04:38.17\00:04:41.18 and efficient and she goes on and on and on. 00:04:41.19\00:04:44.77 Now the girls do tolerate a few fat lazy boys 00:04:44.78\00:04:49.46 and they are the drone bees, 00:04:49.47\00:04:51.28 you see one here and he has a little white dot on him 00:04:51.29\00:04:54.39 for identification and the only reason 00:04:54.40\00:04:57.67 that they have a drone is if they have a new queen, 00:04:57.68\00:05:00.49 she will mate with the one drone 00:05:00.50\00:05:02.17 and then she will be fertile 00:05:02.18\00:05:03.18 to lay eggs for three or four years. 00:05:03.19\00:05:05.93 So I would like to talk to you just a little bit today 00:05:05.94\00:05:09.07 about the worker bee, all the rest of the bees 00:05:09.08\00:05:11.74 other than the drone and the queen, 00:05:11.75\00:05:13.46 these are all worker bees. 00:05:13.47\00:05:15.32 They are all lady bees and for all practical purposes 00:05:15.33\00:05:18.95 and the only bee in the whole hive 00:05:18.96\00:05:21.63 that can lay eggs is the queen bee. 00:05:21.64\00:05:24.69 The worker bee goes out into the field 00:05:24.70\00:05:26.51 and on her first trip, she discovers 00:05:26.52\00:05:28.88 that she has hair all over her body 00:05:28.89\00:05:30.88 and when she goes in the flower 00:05:30.89\00:05:32.15 to find the sweet nectar, she sticks her tongue 00:05:32.16\00:05:34.46 in the blossom and begins to suck out the sweet stuff. 00:05:34.47\00:05:36.93 It's like when you have a malted or a shake 00:05:36.94\00:05:39.49 and that's very good stuff, but when she backs out, 00:05:39.50\00:05:41.84 she discovers that she has all these grains 00:05:41.85\00:05:43.95 of pollen in her hair and she thinks 00:05:43.96\00:05:45.65 how can I get rid of that? 00:05:45.66\00:05:47.42 And she looks at her front legs 00:05:47.43\00:05:48.73 and it looks almost like a comb here 00:05:48.74\00:05:50.70 and she says I wonder. 00:05:50.71\00:05:52.10 So she begins to comb through her hair 00:05:52.11\00:05:54.47 and get all the pollen out and guess what? 00:05:54.48\00:05:56.60 It sticks right there and then she says, 00:05:56.61\00:05:58.64 I wonder how I could get that off. 00:05:58.65\00:06:00.52 And she glances behind her and on her rear leg, 00:06:00.53\00:06:03.61 there are some stiff bristly hair there 00:06:03.62\00:06:05.26 that's seem to correspond to these. 00:06:05.27\00:06:07.06 She says, "I'd wonder if that would work," 00:06:07.07\00:06:08.80 And she pulls it across and sure enough 00:06:08.81\00:06:10.87 the pollen falls right into the little basket. 00:06:10.88\00:06:13.67 She touches her finger to her tongue, 00:06:13.68\00:06:16.13 gets a little sticky nectar 00:06:16.14\00:06:17.24 and she caps it and makes it stick, 00:06:17.25\00:06:19.31 then she adds more to it. 00:06:19.32\00:06:20.80 And when she comes back to the hive, 00:06:20.81\00:06:22.40 she has two beautiful little pellets of pollen. 00:06:22.41\00:06:25.36 This is bread to bees. 00:06:25.37\00:06:27.04 Then they have honey and they have bread. 00:06:27.05\00:06:28.96 This is all that they need. 00:06:28.97\00:06:30.64 And so as she goes back and forth 00:06:30.65\00:06:32.60 and back and forth visiting the flowers, 00:06:32.61\00:06:34.95 I would like to just show you this afternoon, 00:06:34.96\00:06:36.82 if we had a bee that was trained 00:06:36.83\00:06:38.52 and we took this thimble and her name was Betsy. 00:06:38.53\00:06:40.90 Let's give her a name and we say, 00:06:40.91\00:06:42.01 Betsy, go out, there's lots of clover blossoms here, 00:06:42.02\00:06:44.92 fill this thimble for us and let's see 00:06:44.93\00:06:46.82 how long it would take you, out she goes 00:06:46.83\00:06:48.87 and she hurries back and forth, and back and forth. 00:06:48.88\00:06:50.83 She's gone sometime when she finally comes back we say, 00:06:50.84\00:06:54.31 oh, no, you've been gone so long. 00:06:54.32\00:06:57.71 How much did you bring? 00:06:57.72\00:06:58.90 And we look and there is a tiny speck. 00:06:58.91\00:07:01.71 We find that if that bee going back and forth 00:07:01.72\00:07:04.85 to all the blossoms, she would visit 00:07:04.86\00:07:06.62 an average of 1,500 blossoms and in order to fill thimble, 00:07:06.63\00:07:10.99 she would make a 150 trips. 00:07:11.00\00:07:14.56 If it would possible my friends 00:07:14.57\00:07:16.64 for one bee to collect this one pound jar of honey, 00:07:16.65\00:07:20.73 she would have to work seven days a week, 00:07:20.74\00:07:24.65 365 days a year for three and a half years 00:07:24.66\00:07:29.71 and she would fly the equivalent 00:07:29.72\00:07:31.93 of three times around this earth. 00:07:31.94\00:07:34.86 So, when you put honey on your toast, enjoy it, 00:07:34.87\00:07:38.34 but someone did a lot of work, okay. 00:07:38.35\00:07:40.60 Once again, why did Jesus make the bees? 00:07:40.61\00:07:43.77 Because they are His pollinators, 00:07:43.78\00:07:45.97 they are the ones that pollinate muskmelons 00:07:45.98\00:07:48.00 and apple blossoms and oranges 00:07:48.01\00:07:50.05 and all the fruits and things that we so enjoy. 00:07:50.06\00:07:53.10 So, you remember that, 00:07:53.11\00:07:54.46 Jesus always gets it right, doesn't He? 00:07:54.47\00:07:57.17 Ranger Jim asking you again to remember to tell Jesus 00:07:57.18\00:08:01.36 that you love Him because He really does love you. 00:08:01.37\00:08:05.27 Hello, boys and girls, we have been called 00:08:12.48\00:08:14.91 to be soldiers for Jesus Christ. 00:08:14.92\00:08:17.37 Adam's text is from Second Timothy 2 verse 4. 00:08:17.38\00:08:22.13 Sharing the troubles we have, 00:08:22.14\00:08:23.81 such a man is a true soldier of Jesus Christ. 00:08:23.82\00:08:27.64 Boys and girls, Onward Christian Soldiers. 00:08:27.65\00:08:30.33 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 00:08:34.43\00:08:42.14 With the cross of Jesus going on before 00:08:42.15\00:08:50.03 Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe 00:08:50.04\00:08:57.78 Forward into battle see His banners go! 00:08:57.79\00:09:05.50 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 00:09:05.51\00:09:13.06 With the cross of Jesus going on before 00:09:13.07\00:09:20.51 Boys and girls, please march and sing with us. 00:09:20.52\00:09:22.99 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 00:09:24.71\00:09:32.21 With the cross of Jesus going on before 00:09:32.22\00:09:39.81 Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe 00:09:39.82\00:09:47.33 Forward into battle see His banners go! 00:09:47.34\00:09:54.95 Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war 00:09:54.96\00:10:02.58 With the cross of Jesus going on before 00:10:02.59\00:10:10.71 Well, boys and girls. 00:10:19.38\00:10:20.43 Welcome to the Kids Time Kitchen 00:10:20.44\00:10:22.66 and we've got Brittney in the kitchen. Can you believe it? 00:19:14.58\00:19:17.77 They were encouraging us. 00:19:17.78\00:19:21.13 They could only stay a little while longer at my house 00:19:21.14\00:19:24.00 for they were on the way to Thessalonica 00:19:24.01\00:19:26.44 and many other towns, preaching the word of God 00:19:26.45\00:19:29.48 to all who would listen.
