00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:06 Looking for a friend like Jesus
00:10 It's time to share there's a world out there
00:13 Let's tell them that He loves us so
00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so
00:20 Kids Time, Kids Time, Kids Time, Kids Time.
00:26 Hi, boys and girls.
00:27 I have something special I want to show to you,
00:30 but before I do, I want to share a story
00:32 I heard sometime ago that couldn't have really happened,
00:35 but the story does say something very important.
00:38 It seems that there was trouble in the beehive
00:40 and the young bees were buzzing
00:42 and complaining and stirring up rebellion.
00:45 Why do we have to do the things
00:46 the same old way all the time, they wanted to know?
00:49 Just look at the way this beehive is built six sides
00:53 and last year's beehive had six sides
00:55 and the year before that, and the year before that,
00:58 But this is the best shape for a beehive,
01:00 the older bees said.
01:02 It's strong and easy to fly in and out of
01:04 and just right for storing honey.
01:06 Besides, a young bee interrupted,
01:08 I am sure, we can build a better beehive,
01:12 you older bees just have no imagination.
01:15 Very well, you're welcome to try,
01:17 droned the older bees and so they did.
01:19 The young bees decided to build a round beehive,
01:23 but it fell apart.
01:24 And then they decided to build a shape,
01:26 one shaped like a triangle.
01:27 It was most attractive,
01:29 but the storage rooms were far too cramped.
01:32 Then they decided to build a four-sided beehive.
01:35 Now, the honey leaked out of it
01:36 and next they tried an eight-sided beehive,
01:39 but that in the middle collapsed.
01:41 Time went by, they tried this shape
01:43 and that shape and they worked
01:44 through the hot summer
01:46 and into the cool, crisp days of fall.
01:48 The older bees had fallen asleep
01:50 and no longer paid any attention to them.
01:53 And the young bees were growing older themselves.
01:56 Finally, one day after dozens of plans
01:58 have been suggested and tried and failed.
02:00 One young bee piped up. "I have an idea.
02:03 Why don't we try building a six-sided beehive?"
02:06 "Sure, let's try it," they said,
02:08 we've tried everything else.
02:10 And, of course, it worked. How proud they were.
02:13 This is perfect, they buzzed.
02:15 We have built the perfect beehive.
02:17 From now on, all beehives should be built with six sides
02:21 and so the young bees buzzed loudly,
02:24 sure that they were alone in all the world,
02:26 the smartest bees ever.
02:28 When all the time, of course, a six-sided beehive
02:31 was what bees had always built.
02:34 There's a lesson here, and the lesson is simple,
02:37 we can learn from others' experience.
02:39 It's fine to try new ideas
02:41 and it's wonderful to think in new ways,
02:44 but don't forget the lessons of the past.
02:46 They can save us lots of time in trouble
02:48 instead of buzzing around when we could be gathering honey.
02:53 The beehive I'm holding is called a skep.
02:56 I got it from our friend Ranger Jim.
02:59 It's made from saltgrass and wrapped in bamboo.
03:02 If you look closely, you can even see
03:03 the bamboo lines right here.
03:06 You don't find this beehive very often
03:08 in the United States, but it is still used
03:10 in many parts of the world.
03:12 Now, Ranger Jim is going to show us
03:14 a beehive with real bees in it.
03:24 Hi, there, boys and girls.
03:25 Ranger Jim here, we have another
03:27 interesting program for you.
03:28 We're talking about bees today.
03:30 There are many tasks within the hive of bees
03:32 that must be taken care of.
03:33 We have certain bees that go out
03:35 and collect water and bring into the hive
03:36 and they store it there.
03:38 We have other bees that go out
03:39 and collect pollen and nectar and bring it in for food.
03:42 The water is primarily used for cooling the hive.
03:46 On a hot summer day, the hive can get very warm,
03:48 when the hive begins to overheat,
03:50 the bees go and uncap the water
03:53 and get their body's hair covered with water
03:56 and they crawl back and forth
03:57 across the surface of the hive.
03:59 And other bees that are on air conditioning duty
04:01 are in front of the hive are beating their wings.
04:03 Some of them are lined up on the left,
04:05 their bodies are pointed inward,
04:07 the others on the other side are pointed out.
04:09 The summer drawing in fresh cool air
04:11 and we find bees stationed throughout the entire hive,
04:14 they're bringing the cool fresh air in,
04:16 bringing the old moisture-laden air
04:18 out the other side, so that they control
04:20 both the humidity and the air that flows there.
04:23 So in the colder part of the day in the winter time,
04:27 in the fall even when it starts getting cool,
04:29 the bees have to keep the hive warm.
04:32 And so to make the hive warmer,
04:33 they simply beat their wings and run about in a circle
04:36 and generate heat, much the same as we do
04:38 if we're out in the field and we're playing.
04:40 We generate heat and we begin to perspire,
04:43 so the bees do the same.
04:45 We have a group of bees that are assigned
04:47 the duty of keeping the hive clean
04:48 by carrying out the bodies of the bees
04:50 that have died of natural causes, of old age.
04:53 They carry them out and dump them.
04:55 Now, the first task of a bee when they come forth
04:57 from the cell as an adult is to clean their own cell,
05:01 that's a good idea for us, isn't it?
05:03 To clean our bed and clean our room.
05:05 One of the most admirable traits,
05:06 I think of the bee is this fact that,
05:08 a bee is always willing to help.
05:11 If there's an emergency in the hive,
05:12 something that needs to be done,
05:14 every bee is willing to take part and to participate.
05:17 So if there's a break in one of the cells
05:19 and the honey begins to drip out,
05:21 there is no hesitancy on anyone's part,
05:22 they give up the task they've been doing,
05:24 the work they've been doing,
05:25 and join hands to help the stem the flow of that.
05:29 So if you're on air conditioning
05:31 or if you're on the clean-up crew,
05:33 whatever you're doing, they all work together.
05:36 Now bees will sting, but the bee only stings
05:39 in defense of her body or of her hive.
05:43 So we have to keep that in mind.
05:44 So I have had ladies tell me that bee stung me
05:47 and I didn't molest the bee in anyway.
05:48 I wasn't even near her home, but she stung me.
05:50 I was coming out of church in fact.
05:52 And I tell the dear lady that you had something
05:54 that smelled nice on your hair
05:55 or behind your ear and the bee examines
05:58 every possibility for food.
06:00 So when the bee begin to come and check your perfume,
06:03 your hair perhaps the wind caught it
06:05 and blew over her and made her captive suddenly
06:08 and she responded by sticking her stinger in you.
06:12 So this is something that happens
06:14 and once again let me caution you,
06:16 if you're a young person,
06:17 a boy or girl, when you come up on a colony of bees
06:19 or we call a colony of bees a family of bees,
06:21 it's a large white box
06:23 that the bee-keeper keeps his bees in.
06:26 Okay, you stay away from that,
06:27 that is very, very, very dangerous,
06:30 because the bees will attack you
06:32 if you get near their home.
06:33 And we can't fault them for that, can we?
06:36 Because this is where all the young bees is,
06:38 this is where the mother bee, this is their home.
06:40 They must protect their food
06:41 from other insects like hornets and wasp,
06:46 even ants and raccoons and opossums, and bears.
06:50 There are a lot of creatures out there in the wild
06:53 that have a sweet tooth and enjoy honey.
06:55 And so the bees must defend their honey
06:57 because they're going to depend upon it this winter.
07:00 The bee store the honey
07:01 and then when the weather gets cold,
07:02 they all go inside and then all that they have to do
07:06 during the winter time is just stay comfortable,
07:08 eat the honey, you can go
07:10 up to the hive in the dead of winter,
07:12 it may be zero degrees and snow everywhere,
07:15 but on the top of each home where the bees live
07:18 it's nice and warm circle on the top.
07:19 There will be no snow on the top
07:21 because they keep the temperature
07:22 inside the hive a very comfortable 70 degrees.
07:26 So the bees that work hard all summer
07:29 are laying by foods to survive the winter
07:31 and it serves them very well.
07:33 So I want to use this bee that I'm holding here
07:36 in little tweezers as a little bit of demonstration now
07:39 and we hope that it works.
07:40 I'm going to put the bee here and try to show you
07:42 what happens to the bee if you're unkind to the bee
07:46 and they swarm out and grab you.
07:49 We're going to try a honey bee sting here
07:51 and now see what happens, boys and girls.
07:53 We can introduce this honey bee to sting.
07:58 Here we go.
08:02 You can see the tiny little stinger
08:05 that's in my finger.
08:09 All of you can see it from the camera
08:10 well enough on the top of there,
08:11 there's a little bag of poison.
08:13 If I just scrape along the skin very carefully like this,
08:17 right there, I dislodged the stinger,
08:18 the stinger sticking straight up in the air.
08:20 You can see that.
08:22 In a test that is the very flimsy bag of poison.
08:26 And there's a little muscle,
08:27 we call an involuntary muscle that is still squeezing,
08:30 as close as I am I can see it.
08:32 And it is forcing the poison down through the stinger
08:36 like a hypodermic needle into our flesh
08:38 and that's the way that that works.
08:41 So that is the bee stinger,
08:42 so you're wise when a bee stings you,
08:45 don't slap it, if you do,
08:47 it will make a large red spot, and be very painful.
08:50 A lot of people says, "Oh, take my fingers and pull it out."
08:53 If you do that, you squeeze the bag
08:54 and you squeeze all of the venom in the wound.
08:56 Now, you take your thumb nail
08:58 or a knife blade or something,
08:59 it go long just bud the flesh like that and scrape
09:03 and then you'd do just as this,
09:05 then you would just turned out like that
09:06 then you can congratulate yourself
09:08 and you won't have all of that poison in your body.
09:11 So there once again as always Ranger Jim
09:14 telling you that Jesus always does it right.
09:17 Be sure to tell Jesus you love Him,
09:18 because He really does love you.
09:29 Hello, boys and girls.
09:30 The Bible has so many wonderful things in it.
09:32 Today, Glesni will read for us, Job 12 verse 10.
09:37 "In His hand is the life of every living thing
09:41 and the breath of all mankind."
09:44 Every living thing, He's got the whole world in His hands.
09:51 He's got the whole world in His hands
09:55 He's got the whole world in His hands
09:59 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:03 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:06 He's got you and me, brother, in His hands
10:10 He's got you and me, sister, in His hands
10:14 He's got you and me, brother, in His hands
10:17 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:21 He's got the tiny little babies in His hands
10:25 He's got the tiny little babies in His hands
10:29 He's got the tiny little babies in His hands
10:33 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:36 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:40 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:44 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:47 He's got the whole world in His hands
10:51 He's got the whole world in His hands.
10:57 Boys and girls, He's got you, He's got me,
10:59 He's got the whole world in His hands,
11:01 and there's no place we'd rather be.
11:11 Hi, today we're gonna make you a delicious dessert.
11:14 Apple-oatmeal crisp.
11:16 Catie, why don't you read us the ingredients? Okay.
11:21 [Ingredients appear on the screen]
11:41 Okay, we have two different bowls here
11:43 'cause you're gonna need two different bowls
11:45 for two different mixtures.
11:48 So, Catie, why not you do yours first
11:50 and tell them how you're gonna do it.
11:52 Okay, first I'm going to take the quick oats, the oats.
11:57 And we're gonna dump them in here, okay.
12:02 then we, I mean, stick in the flour,
12:12 the two tablespoons of flour.
12:15 The flour, okay, okay.
12:24 Now I'm gonna put in --
12:27 and Jody, why don't you start yours before I finish mine.
12:29 Okay, I'm gonna put in two tablespoons of flour.
12:35 I'm gonna sprinkle it around on apples,
12:38 then I'm gonna put in, I'm gonna put in--
12:42 The lemon juice. The lemon juice.
12:44 Two tablespoons, just pour that all around.
12:47 And then I'm going to put in a half-a-cup of sucanats.
12:52 And sucanat is--
12:53 Awesome sweetener. Great replacer of sugar.
12:57 It tastes wonderful. Spread that all around.
13:02 Looks delicious. Okay, once you get that all in,
13:09 let's stir it altogether.
13:11 Make sure you get it all mixed together well.
13:18 So get all that sucanat down in the bottom
13:21 and all the flour and lemon juice.
13:23 And while she's stirring,
13:24 I'm going to go stick in the rest of the sucanat.
13:30 Okay, and I'm gonna stir mine up.
13:36 yum-yum, okay.
13:41 Now, gonna pour my mixture,
13:44 when I've got this stirred up over her mixture,
13:47 now you all stirred up, Jody?
13:49 Almost. I'm done.
13:52 You need to get on the bottom more.
13:56 Yep, it looks like you've got some flour in the bottom.
13:58 And sucanat, don't want that, okay.
14:05 Well, I'm done here.
14:06 So whenever you're ready, we're gonna go ahead and--
14:09 What do you think, you think that look stir enough?
14:12 I think that's look pretty good.
14:14 Yours look pretty good too,
14:15 but it looks like you've forgot something, margarine.
14:18 I don't think it tastes well without it.
14:20 Oh, oh yes. Just put margarine in.
14:23 Pour some of that in. There you go.
14:27 Then mash that up.
14:29 While she's doing that,
14:30 I'm gonna pour my apples into the pan.
14:33 I use the knife. You cut that up.
14:46 Make sure you mash that butter really good.
14:54 Okay, I'm gonna spread my apples out around in this pan.
14:59 All ready for her to pour the mixture on.
15:03 Okay, I think I need to get rid of these chunks some more.
15:06 They're too big. Don't you think?
15:09 Yep, looks a little clumpy.
15:14 Okay, almost done and still a little bit clumpy. Okay.
15:24 I love apple crisp.
15:27 Apple crisp is one of my favorite desserts.
15:33 It goes great with whatever, I mean,
15:38 whatever you like to have with it.
15:40 Finish your meal first and then--
15:43 Yeah. You have the nice apple crisp.
15:44 Your friends will love it.
15:47 My friends just love this recipe.
15:50 You think it's done? You think it needs a little more.
15:53 Huh! Maybe a little bit more.
15:55 Okay, let's do it a little bit more then.
15:57 It's looking great though.
15:58 Yeah, looking good to me too.
16:04 This is a really easy dessert, you know,
16:05 like for Sabbath dessert to go with whatever you're having.
16:13 Umm! Looks like it's done,
16:15 I think it's time to pour it in.
16:16 Yeah, it looks done.
16:18 It looks done to me, okay.
16:21 Once you get it all mixed up good.
16:23 Move this off to the side.
16:26 Then you're going to sprinkle it on top of your apples.
16:29 Okay, let's sprinkle it on. Let me get a spoon.
16:32 Let's just go ahead and use a fork.
16:33 Okay, here. Just sprinkle it over the top.
16:43 Here, how about you hold it? I'll do it.
16:45 That's easy for you.
16:48 Let's move it there in the corner.
16:50 Get it over here in the corner,
16:53 over here in the corner.
16:57 Okay, now let's spread it out.
16:58 And make sure we get all of it.
17:00 Here we go. Use this. It looks great.
17:07 Okay. Now--
17:10 Once you get that all done--
17:12 We're gonna sprinkle our cinnamon over the top.
17:18 Umm! I love the smell of cinnamon.
17:21 Umm! It looks delicious.
17:23 It sure does, it looks great.
17:25 Well, stick it in the oven at 425,
17:27 remember to have a parent help you,
17:29 and leave it in there for 30 to 35 minutes,
17:31 or until it's slightly brown on the top.
17:34 Okay, Jody, why don't you show them
17:35 our finished product?
17:37 This, we made this one a little bit smaller,
17:40 but it's real easy. This is great.
17:42 Looks very, it looks very good, I can't wait to--
17:44 Looks great. Bite into that.
17:47 Well, until next time.
17:49 Keep cooking. And eat healthy.
17:57 My name is Sarah, I'm Abraham's wife.
18:02 Abraham and I lived in Ur of the Chaldees for a long time.
18:07 And then one day, God came to Abraham and told him,
18:10 He wanted him to move to a far country,
18:12 He wanted him to be a missionary,
18:14 and He would make of him a great nation.
18:17 He would have the promised heir.
18:19 We thought about it a little bit.
18:21 And then we decided that we would go.
18:25 So, Father Terah and nephew Lot,
18:29 and all of our servants and all of the livestock,
18:33 we made a long procession and we had 600 miles to go
18:37 and we moved very slow.
18:41 We traveled a long and then finally
18:43 we came to a place call Haran.
18:46 We camped at Haran and Father Terah was very ill,
18:50 and he died while we were there.
18:52 Then we moved on to Egypt.
18:57 Egypt was a place that Abraham feared,
19:00 he feared the wrath of Pharaoh
19:01 because Pharaoh asked him who I was and Abraham said,
19:06 "Oh, she's my sister and not my wife."
19:10 After Egypt we moved on to Canaan,
19:12 the promised land, a beautiful place,
19:15 so lush and green.
19:18 Abraham and I decided, we would live in the country,
19:21 but Lot chose the city life and so He settled in Sodom.
19:27 Life went on for a little while
19:29 and then we went about our duties
19:34 and we -- I thought to myself,
19:37 well, how are we gonna be a great nation,
19:39 when we have no child, we have no descendants.
19:43 I was getting old by now and so I just decided,
19:47 I guess, I'd run ahead of the Lord
19:48 and I've told Abraham,
19:50 "Take my handmaid Hagar and marry her."
19:55 Abraham was a good man
19:56 and he didn't think that was too great,
19:58 but then he condescended and he married Hagar,
20:02 and they had a child.
20:04 And that child they named Ishmael.
20:07 Ishmael was a nice child, Abraham loved him,
20:10 but God came to Abraham and He said,
20:13 "No, he is not the promised heir."
20:17 A few years went back, 13 and God came to Abraham again.
20:23 Abraham told, God told Abraham,
20:26 "Sarah is going to have a baby."
20:28 Well, that was totally impossible.
20:31 We were so old, I went in the tent
20:33 and I just laughed, and laughed, and laughed
20:36 because I thought that was so foolish.
20:39 But, you know, God sent us a baby,
20:42 a baby boy and we named him Isaac,
20:45 which means laughter.
20:46 Isaac grew and was such a nice child.
20:50 We had many dinners and suppers
20:53 and much happiness and then,
20:56 you know, there was a lot of quarreling in our home.
21:01 And Hagar was so jealous.
21:03 Oh, I couldn't stand it and so I said to Abraham,
21:06 just send her and Ishmael away.
21:10 He was a good man, you know, and he hated to do it.
21:14 But he got water and food
21:15 and he sent Hagar and Ishmael away.
21:19 After they were gone, life went on
21:22 and we had a nice family
21:24 and we had a good time together, Isaac grew.
21:29 And one day, I was in the tent busy
21:32 and I didn't know what Abraham and Isaac were doing,
21:35 but they went on a long walk,
21:37 they went to the top of Mount Moriah,
21:39 but you see, I didn't know all of this
21:41 until that evening when they came home.
21:44 And I was horrified at what he told me,
21:48 I couldn't believe.
21:50 Oh, I would not have wanted them to go if I had known,
21:54 but you see, Abraham had passed the test
21:57 and Isaac was home and I was so happy,
22:01 so happy to have him home.
22:05 Isaac grew into manhood.
22:08 He was the promised heir.
22:10 You see, Abraham and I just
22:12 had to have faith and patience.
22:15 We had to trust in God's promises.
22:18 And you know, as you go about your duties each day,
22:22 just remember that God stands by His promises
22:26 and you must always put your faith and trust in God.
22:40 Sarah loved Jesus very much
22:42 and she learned to trust Him, didn't she?
22:45 Boys and girls, I'm gonna talk you today about reading.
22:48 And did you know that the Bible talks
22:50 about Jesus reading.
22:52 I'm going to read to you now
22:53 from the fourth Chapter of Luke,
22:54 which is verse 16 and 17.
22:57 If you have a Bible nearby, why don't you read with me?
23:00 It says, "And He came to Nazareth,
23:02 where He had been brought up.
23:03 And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue
23:06 on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read."
23:09 That's what He said, he stood up to read.
23:12 "And there was delivered unto Him,
23:13 the book of the prophet Isaiah.
23:15 And when He had opened the book,
23:17 He found the place where it was written."
23:20 I would've loved to have heard
23:21 Jesus read the Bible, wouldn't you?
23:24 It must have been a strange
23:25 and really wonderful experience for him
23:27 because so many of the scriptures
23:28 that He read were about Himself.
23:31 The scriptures told about the time of His birth
23:33 and the place He'd be born
23:35 and many other things about Him.
23:36 I'm sure Jesus must have been a good reader.
23:39 In fact, in Bible times, people who made a mistake
23:42 while reading the scriptures in public
23:43 were not allowed to read again.
23:46 Can you imagine that?
23:47 And these people understood
23:48 that the Bible was a sacred book
23:50 and should be read reverently and with expression.
23:54 It's a wonderful thing to be able to read, isn't it?
23:56 And do your best to become a good reader
23:59 and read the stories in the Bible for yourself.
24:01 You know, in the books known as the gospel,
24:04 Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,
24:06 you can read Jesus own words, isn't that a privilege.
24:11 Perhaps you can share your ability
24:12 to read with someone else.
24:14 Many people love to hear the Bible read to them
24:16 and that's one way you can share Jesus, isn't it?
24:19 Why don't you try it? Speaking of reading.
24:22 Let's check our mailbox
24:23 and see if there any letters for me to read, okay.
24:27 I love getting letters and you've been writing
24:29 more and more everyday.
24:31 Let's look, I do have some mail today.
24:34 Let's look and see all the letters,
24:36 I just can't wait to share them with you.
24:40 Oh, we have some from all over,
24:42 one from Wisconsin, and one from Illinois.
24:49 Oh, we've got quite a few,
24:50 let's see which ones we have in here.
24:51 This one doesn't tell me on the outside.
24:57 All right, this one says, this one's from Danielle Gajski.
25:04 It says, "Dear, Brenda, I shared my faith
25:07 by bringing my neighbor to the midnight cry
25:10 with Kenneth Cox and he really enjoyed it.
25:13 That's on a station called 3ABN.
25:17 Love, Danielle Gajski." You know what, Danielle,
25:20 thank you for sharing that.
25:22 That was the nice thing to do and to invite your neighbor.
25:24 And I bet he enjoyed the meetings too,
25:26 but don't forget to pray and ask for the Holy Spirit
25:28 to keep working on his heart, okay.
25:31 Now let's see what letter I have in here.
25:39 "Dear Brenda, when my cousins,
25:41 Missy and Tiffany came to visit.
25:44 I invite them to Sabbath School with me,
25:46 that's how I share Jesus."
25:49 And this is from Laura Liber.
25:52 Thank you, Laura, that's nice,
25:53 that's a nice way to share Jesus too,
25:55 is to invite them to Sabbath School
25:57 and I bet they enjoyed it too, didn't they?
26:01 All right, let's see if we have time for another letter.
26:05 This one says, "Dear Brenda, I ask my neighbor Verina
26:08 to come to pathfinders and she said, yes.
26:11 Now she's coming every week and she likes it.
26:14 That's how I share Jesus.
26:16 Love, Amy Miller." Well, thank you, Amy,
26:19 for sharing that with us.
26:21 That's a good thing for path find--
26:23 to invite them to pathfinder,
26:24 that's a special club, isn't it?
26:26 That you have a lot of fun in
26:28 and you learn things about nature and Jesus love.
26:32 I wonder if I have time for one more here.
26:36 Let's see, if we do.
26:39 And my name is Kevin and I play a piano for people
26:45 and I tell people about Jesus.
26:48 It's important to tell people about Jesus too, isn't it?
26:50 Remember, boys and girls,
26:52 it's Kid's Time to share Jesus.
