00:03 It's time to share there's a world out there,
00:07 looking for a friend like Jesus.
00:10 It's time to share there's a world out there,
00:13 let's tell them that He loves us so,
00:17 let's tell them that He loves us so.
00:20 Kids Time, Kids Time, Kids Time.
00:26 Hi, boys and girls.
00:27 Do you know what I am holding in my hand?
00:29 This is an idol that some people worship
00:32 because they don't know the true God.
00:34 This idol is made out of stone
00:37 and if you can see his face,
00:39 it doesn't look very friendly,
00:41 it doesn't look very powerful to me either.
00:45 There are many kinds of idols,
00:46 and the idol in our story
00:48 today represented a God called Baal,
00:50 who many people believed was very powerful.
00:53 People thought Baal send the storms and thunder
00:56 and lightening and rain to water the earth
00:58 and make their crops grow.
01:01 If you were a Baal worshiper,
01:02 you would have been afraid of making him angry
01:05 because he might punish you by not sending the rain,
01:08 then no crops or gardens would grow
01:10 and there'd be no cereal for breakfast
01:12 or no soup for lunch and no bread for your dinner.
01:16 I'm so glad the Bible tells us
01:18 about a different kind of God.
01:20 This God loves to have people happy
01:23 and give them good things.
01:24 This is a God who loves us
01:26 and we never have to be afraid of Him.
01:29 No matter where we go or what we do,
01:31 God is with us, giving us good things
01:33 and protecting us.
01:35 Why not do something special today.
01:37 Start making a list of all the good things
01:39 that God gives you, all the good things in your life.
01:43 These are called blessings and they can be anything
01:46 from your pet goldfish or your kitten
01:48 to a nice teacher or just maybe you're thankful
01:51 for that warm sunshine.
01:53 I wonder how long your list will be.
01:56 Now Ranger Jim has a couple of God's little creatures
01:59 to show us today.
02:07 Hi, boys and girls, Ranger Jim here again today.
02:09 We have a beautiful creature to see and enjoy
02:12 as you can see that I am holding in my hands,
02:14 a beautiful Blanding's Turtle
02:16 with his beautiful yellow throat
02:17 and also the bottom of his shell,
02:19 his plastron is yellow also.
02:21 This is the shyest of all the turtles,
02:23 in fact he is one of the shyest creatures
02:25 that we have in all of nature.
02:26 When this creature becomes frightened,
02:28 he will go to the bottom of the lake
02:29 and sometime spend an hour there.
02:31 He holds his breath and has the ability
02:33 also to absorb oxygen through his skin.
02:35 And so any other turtle would be backup
02:37 in just a very short time looking around to see
02:40 what caused the disturbance.
02:42 Not true Mr. Blanding's turtle,
02:44 he stays down in the bottom,
02:45 or he is safe until he is sure,
02:47 then he puts his nose up very,
02:49 very carefully and looks all around.
02:51 Quite often this turtle is mistaken for a snake
02:53 because he has a very long neck
02:55 and with his head stuck in the air
02:56 sometime people mistake him for a snake.
02:59 Now he's going to stick his neck out for you
03:01 and that's good, we can see more
03:02 of this anatomy that way.
03:04 The Blanding's turtle reaches maturity
03:06 at about the age of three and these creatures get
03:09 to be about twice the size of this and they would be,
03:13 in the neighborhood of three pounds
03:15 or something like that.
03:16 The female leaves the water
03:18 and goes out into the open area of a field if she can,
03:22 and she finds a nice sandy place or loose soil.
03:24 And she begins to dig with her front
03:26 and rear feet and makes a depression
03:29 as deep as she can make in the soil,
03:30 and then she turns and deposits her eggs.
03:32 She lays 25 or 30 or more eggs,
03:35 as a general rule about 30 eggs she lays
03:37 and that's the end of all of her
03:39 caring for the creatures.
03:40 She leaves the eggs and after she covers them
03:43 and goes back into the water and carries on a normal life.
03:47 And then she leaves it up to the Sun to warm
03:49 and to incubate the eggs and hatch.
03:51 And when the tiny little hatchlings
03:54 come from the eggs,
03:55 they're about the size of your thumbnail,
03:57 very, very small creatures.
03:59 And they are especially secretive,
04:01 in fact there are many people who study them
04:03 and we know very little about their feeding habits
04:06 and their life when they're this age.
04:09 And so, we just enjoy the Blanding turtle
04:12 and if I can turn him up now,
04:14 I'd like to turn him up just about to show you
04:15 the bottom of the shell, he has a hinge,
04:18 plastron and the muscles don't develop in this
04:21 until they're about three years of age.
04:23 Okay, and so the function of that is that he can withdraw
04:26 his very delicate neck and limbs in the front
04:30 and he snaps this shut and they have enough force
04:33 that you can stick your finger in there
04:34 and it will pinch your finger, okay.
04:36 So if your dog or some animal comes along
04:38 and finds this creature, begins to rotate
04:40 all in the ground and chewing it,
04:42 it withdraws into his plastron
04:44 and this closes very tightly.
04:48 And then if we turn him up this way,
04:49 you can see the back closes also.
04:52 And here is a little clue to the sex of this turtle
04:55 and it is the sex of this,
04:57 that she cannot get all of her legs inside
04:59 because there isn't enough room.
05:01 And I know that when I found this turtle,
05:03 she was out in some very soft sand,
05:05 ready to go about laying her legs.
05:07 So that means in her body cavity
05:09 the eggs are developing and more and more and more
05:12 she becomes crowded.
05:14 And so had not Ranger Jim found her
05:16 and brought her to show you on television,
05:17 by now she would perhaps have laid her eggs.
05:21 And I promise you this,
05:22 that when Ranger Jim finds a turtle
05:24 or any kind of creature that I show to boys and girls.
05:27 I take that creature back to the exact same spot
05:30 where I caught it, okay.
05:31 So I will take Mrs. Blanding turtle back
05:33 to where I captured her, I will release her there.
05:37 Then she can go about raising her family.
05:39 So we would expect that of Christians wouldn't we?
05:43 We don't to take a creature if we were to release it
05:45 in the strange area,
05:46 would not know where a source of food was
05:48 or even a source of water, okay.
05:51 We're going to exchange those
05:52 and I have another creature for you to see here.
05:54 And this is the Painted turtle,
05:56 this is the Eastern Painted turtle,
05:58 very interesting creature
05:59 looks as though someone had painted,
06:01 enameled its shell, doesn't it?
06:03 A beautiful turtle and they have a very interestingly
06:06 of identifying them.
06:07 I can tell that this is a young female
06:09 because she has very short black front toenails.
06:13 The males all have long, soft white toenails.
06:17 And this comes into play when they're mating,
06:19 the male swims along beside her
06:21 and tries to attract her with the beautiful colors.
06:23 Then he swims backward beside her and courting her
06:26 all along the way and she has nothing to do
06:28 with him for a while.
06:29 But eventually she will stop in the water,
06:32 then he comes up almost nose to nose with her
06:34 with his long soft toenails
06:36 and begins to caress her cheeks,
06:38 oh, isn't that romantic?
06:40 Not for us, but it is for turtles, okay.
06:43 And so then they fall in love
06:45 and then they live happily ever after, okay.
06:47 So that's basically the story
06:49 of the Eastern painted turtle.
06:50 You can tell them, you can identify the sex
06:53 by the length of the toenails.
06:54 Once again, boys and girls,
06:56 the wonderful creator Jesus we have,
06:58 has made these things and we can study them
07:01 and just learn forever.
07:02 I look forward to the day,
07:04 when we can go with Jesus
07:05 and learn truly all about them.
07:08 What a wonderful heavenly Father we have.
07:10 So Ranger Jim saying as always,
07:13 don't you dare forget to tell Jesus
07:15 that you love them, because He really does, love you.
07:27 Hi, boys and girls.
07:28 Knowing Jesus is so much fun,
07:30 sometimes you just want to sing.
07:32 Psalms 89:1 talks about that.
07:35 Hannah, can you tell us what that verse says?
07:37 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever.
07:42 Boys and girls, will you join us
07:44 on this fun song for Jesus?
07:49 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord
07:52 Forever I will sing, I will sing
07:57 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord
08:00 Forever I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
08:05 With my mouth will I make known
08:09 Thy faithfulness, thy faithfulness
08:13 With my mouth will I make known
08:17 Thy faithfulness to all generations.
08:22 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord
08:25 Forever I will sing, I will sing
08:30 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord
08:33 Forever I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
08:41 Today, boys and girls, have fun singing for Jesus.
08:51 Hi, we have a really yummy recipe for you today.
08:54 Some Mexican dish. It's Burrito Casserole.
08:58 And I'm gonna read you the ingredients right now.
09:18 Okay, let's get started.
09:20 Okay, first we're gonna start with the salsa,
09:22 put some salsa in.
09:23 Why don't you go ahead and stir that around, Jody.
09:28 Just put a thin layer on the bottom, just.
09:33 Okay. You want to tell them
09:35 why we put this on the bottom, Kate.
09:37 We're putting this on the bottom,
09:38 so our tortillas don't burn.
09:40 Okay, our next, our next one is our tortillas.
09:43 Gonna take these tortillas,
09:46 and always wash your hands before use,
09:49 before you do things with your hands.
09:52 I'm gonna put these down on the sides.
09:59 We're gonna tear a little bit of tortilla, at the edges.
10:06 Here we go. Little bit more, okay.
10:13 Okay, looks good. Okay.
10:16 Now we're gonna put some beans down. Okay.
10:19 Why don't you take those down, Jody.
10:21 Now go ahead and stir. Okay.
10:27 Here we go. Um, it smells good.
10:32 I love chili beans, okay.
10:36 Why don't you put a little bit more.
10:39 Here we go. That looks so good.
10:42 Okay, next thing we're gonna put on veggie cheese.
10:45 Just sprinkle the cheese around
10:48 and this is veggie cheese,
10:50 it's a great alternative for cheese.
10:52 It tastes really good. Okay.
10:55 Just sprinkle on that lightly all over your pan.
11:00 Here we go, okay.
11:04 Okay, and then the next thing
11:05 we're gonna put on is our tortillas.
11:13 Stuff that. Break it up, okay.
11:18 Then we're gonna put on more salsa.
11:24 Yeah, spread this around. Okay.
11:31 Now let's put a little bit more.
11:32 We're gonna put on some beans.
11:34 Little bit more in here. Here we go.
11:39 Take some more beans. Okay.
11:44 Looks good.
11:51 It's looking great. Yes, it is.
11:54 This is one of our favorite casseroles.
11:56 Okay, and then the next thing
11:58 we put on is cheese, more cheese.
11:59 Put more cheese on, I'll do that for you.
12:09 Okay. You have to get your cheese on.
12:12 Then we're gonna put more tortillas. Tortillas on.
12:20 We pull this up on the sides a little bit.
12:24 That break some up, stick them in there. Okay.
12:29 Now we put on more beans. Okay.
12:40 Okay. Keep coming.
12:47 Looks good. Okay, then we're gonna put on,
12:52 we're put on some more cheese.
13:04 Looks good. Okay.
13:12 Now we put on some olives.
13:17 Some more olives, decorate this.
13:24 Spread them all around.
13:28 And after you're done with everything,
13:30 you put it all in.
13:31 You can bake this in the oven
13:32 for 30 to 40 minutes at 350, okay.
13:36 Make sure again, it does help to put in the oven too.
13:39 Okay. And we have a finished product over there.
13:43 And we've taken a piece,
13:45 cut a piece out of it to show you.
13:50 And we're gonna decorate that for you
13:52 and show you how we decorate it.
13:54 You can do whatever really whatever you want.
13:57 We take lettuce. Okay.
13:59 And put tomatoes on, just have fun with it.
14:04 It doesn't matter whatever you wanna start with.
14:07 Put some tomatoes on it. Cheese.
14:13 Just have fun, isn't that pretty. Good.
14:19 And this sour cream is tofutti sour cream
14:24 and it's very good for you,
14:27 and it's really tastes good, tastes exactly like,
14:31 almost exactly like regular sour cream.
14:33 We really like this a lot,
14:35 it's a good alternative for sour cream.
14:38 Doesn't that look yummy?
14:40 It sure does.
14:42 I can't wait to bite into that one.
14:44 You have to try this recipe at home.
14:46 Why don't you invite some company over
14:48 or friends or something, they're gonna love this one.
14:50 Looks really good. Well, until next time.
14:54 Keep cooking. And eat healthy.
15:05 Oh! No, that's okay you're not disturbing me.
15:07 I was just thinking about some of the things
15:09 that have been happening here in Israel.
15:11 If you got a moment, come on over and I'll show you,
15:14 with you what I'm thinking.
15:17 My name's Elijah, and I live back in the mountains.
15:22 Before Ahab became King.
15:26 I had been hoping and praying
15:27 that a King would come to the throne,
15:30 who would love God, and would worship him,
15:33 and who would be a good example
15:34 for the people to follow.
15:36 But when Ahab became King,
15:38 he decided he didn't want to obey
15:39 or a worship God.
15:41 And then he went and married Jezebel,
15:44 the daughter of the King of Sidon,
15:46 who was also a prophet of Baal.
15:48 And when Jezebel came to Israel,
15:50 she brought with her the worship of Baal in a big way.
15:54 Before long, the King was worshiping Baal too
15:57 and then he set up idols and altars to Baal
16:00 along the paths and the wood.
16:02 And he tried to force people to worship Baal,
16:04 because he said Baal is the one who sends the rain,
16:06 not the Lord.
16:09 Made me sick to see how confused the people were,
16:12 they didn't know whether they should worship the Lord
16:14 or worship Baal.
16:16 So I started to pray and asked the Lord
16:18 that if He would do something to cause the people
16:21 and the King to realize
16:23 that Baal was nothing but a fake,
16:24 and that he was the only one worthy of worship.
16:27 One day while I was praying,
16:29 the Lord impressed me that now was the time for God
16:32 to display his power.
16:34 And so down the mountain side I went,
16:36 across the valley all the way to King's Palace
16:38 and I didn't stop until
16:39 I should face to face with the King.
16:42 I looked him straight in the eye
16:43 and I raised my hands toward heaven.
16:45 And I said, "As the Lord God of heaven lives,
16:48 before whose presence I stand,
16:50 there shall not be dew or rain until I say so."
16:54 With that I turned around and left.
16:58 The Lord directed me over toward the Brook Cherith,
17:01 where He had water, there was water for me to drink,
17:04 and every morning before the Sun came up
17:08 and every evening before the Sun went down,
17:11 God sent ravens to feed me.
17:14 After the water in the brook dried up,
17:17 God directed me back over to Zarephath,
17:20 where a widow gave me food to eat and water to drink.
17:25 It was probably about three years,
17:30 and God told me that it was time now
17:32 to go back to King Ahab.
17:35 So back to the Land of Israel I went
17:38 and I met King Ahab on the road.
17:40 And when he saw me, he frowned and he said,
17:42 "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?"
17:45 And I looked at him and I said,
17:47 "I've not troubled Israel.
17:48 You have and that you have not remembered
17:50 the commandments of the Lord, and you followed after Baal."
17:54 Now gather all the people to me up in Mount Carmel,
17:57 along with all of the prophets of Baal.
18:01 So at a point of time,
18:04 the King assembled all of the people at Mount Carmel,
18:06 including the prophets of Baal.
18:09 When they had gathered all around me,
18:11 I asked them, "how long are you going
18:12 to waver between serving the Lord or serving Baal.
18:17 If the Lord is God, then serve Him.
18:20 If Baal is God, then serve him."
18:24 People were too afraid to answer,
18:27 so I told them I'm the only prophet left in Israel.
18:31 A prophet of God, but there are 400 prophets of Baal.
18:36 I challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest
18:39 to determine who the real God is.
18:43 We'll both build altars.
18:45 They can build an altar to Baal,
18:47 and I'll build an altar to the Lord.
18:49 Then we'll prepare that altar by placing wood
18:52 in a sacrifice ready to be burned.
18:55 But neither of us will start the wood on fire.
18:58 And then they can pray to Baal,
19:00 and I'll pray to the Lord in heaven.
19:04 And the one who demonstrates his power
19:08 by sending fire down from heaven
19:10 to consume the sacrifice, He will be God.
19:17 All the people thought that was a pretty good idea
19:18 and so they agreed to that contest.
19:22 Then I turned to the prophets of Baal and I said,
19:25 since there are so many of you, you go first.
19:28 And so they did.
19:29 They made their altar
19:31 and they put their sacrifice on the wood
19:33 and then they started to pray.
19:35 Oh Baal hear us, they prayed,
19:37 but there was no answer.
19:39 Louder and louder they've started to pray
19:41 and there was still no answer.
19:42 So now they started to jump around the altar, no answer.
19:47 In desperation they started to take knives
19:49 and they started to cut their clothes
19:50 and then they started to cut themselves
19:52 until the blood just flowed.
19:54 Still there was no answer.
19:58 All day long they continued
20:00 until finally towards evening
20:02 they were exhausted, confused,
20:05 weak from the loss of blood and unable to continue
20:09 they withdrew from the contest.
20:13 I turned to the people and I told them
20:14 to draw closer to me and they did.
20:17 Then I repaired the altar the Lord
20:19 that had been broken down.
20:21 And I prepared the sacrifice on the wood,
20:24 and then I dug a ditch
20:25 all the way around, the altar.
20:28 And then I had them pour a water
20:29 on top of the sacrifice until it ran down
20:32 over the top of the sacrifice
20:34 and down the sides of the alternate
20:35 filled the ditch.
20:38 All the people watched and waited.
20:41 Then I stood in front of the altar
20:43 and I raise my hands towards heaven and I prayed,
20:46 Oh Lord, let Israel know that you are God here,
20:51 and that I'm your servant and I've done
20:53 all of these things at your command.
20:55 No Lord, let the people know
20:57 that you're willing to forgive them
20:59 of their sin, almost before I could say amen,
21:02 fire flashed down from heaven like
21:04 a frozen lightning bolt and it burned the sacrifice
21:07 and the wood and it even burned up the stones
21:09 that made up the altar.
21:11 When the people saw that
21:12 they fell down on their faces
21:13 and they cried, the Lord he is God,
21:15 the Lord he is God.
21:17 Oh what a wonderful day that was,
21:20 because not only the God show the people
21:22 that He was the real God, He also let them know that
21:26 He was willing to forgive them of their sins.
21:31 Oh, what a wonderful day that was!
21:35 And that night God send a great rain to water the Earth.
21:39 Oh, thank you for letting me relive this story with you.
21:43 But now it's time for me to go.
21:45 But before I go, let's all remember
21:48 that when we recognize the Lord as God in our lives
21:52 and we ask Him to forgive us of our sins.
21:55 He will forgive us every time.
22:11 Wasn't that an exciting story?
22:14 I'm so glad we worship the real God
22:16 and not an idol like Baal, aren't you?
22:19 Let's check our mail box now,
22:20 there might be a letter from you.
22:22 I hope so. I love getting letters.
22:25 Just open the box, I do have some letters.
22:29 Oh! And quite a few of them today too.
22:31 Oh let's see who they're from.
22:34 All right, Oh, yes. What is this?
22:38 Even one that's a priority mail.
22:40 Somebody thought that was pretty important,
22:42 didn't they? Oh! It's important to me too.
22:46 There's one here from Marissa Suttonm
22:49 and one from Daniel Varez
22:52 and one from Jessie in Idaho.
22:57 Oh, one from Baraboo, Wisconsin.
22:59 Oh quite a few today.
23:01 Let's see if-- I'll see if I can share some with you.
23:05 Oh I love getting letters.
23:06 Let's see what Marissa have to say.
23:11 Oh, you know what?
23:13 Marissa sent us a picture too.
23:15 Thank you, Marissa.
23:16 Let's show the boys and girls at home your picture.
23:20 That's such a beautiful picture.
23:21 Thank you, Marissa.
23:22 This letter says, dear Brenda,
23:25 my name is Marissa
23:27 and here's some ways
23:28 that I have shared Jesus with others.
23:31 I go door to door and pass out literature
23:33 with my mom and daddy
23:35 on Sabbath afternoons
23:36 and sometimes we give out loaves of bread too.
23:40 One Friday I wanted to give our neighbor Lisa,
23:42 a loaf of bread
23:43 and when mom and I went to give her the bread,
23:46 I asked if Britney her daughter
23:48 could come over for worship.
23:50 And Lisa said, yes, and she came too.
23:53 They learned all about the Sabbath,
23:55 it's fun to show kindness and share Jesus with others.
23:58 Thank you, so much for letting me share.
24:00 Love Marissa.
24:02 Marissa, thank you very much
24:03 for sharing your letter.
24:04 I enjoyed hearing how you shared Jesus,
24:07 that was a wonderful way to witness.
24:09 You want to keep praying too
24:11 that Jesus will keep working on her heart.
24:14 Now there's one here from Daniel Varez.
24:17 Let's see what Daniel has to say.
24:23 Daniel says, dear Brenda, I'm six years old
24:27 and I'd like to play the computer.
24:29 I like hearing about you, boys and girls too,
24:31 the things that you like to do.
24:33 Says that he specially likes the Jesus game
24:36 and he likes to sing.
24:37 Says to share Jesus, I went with my class
24:40 to the nursing home and we drew pictures
24:42 of the Six Days of Creation and the Sabbath
24:45 on big pieces of poster board.
24:47 Well, that sounds good.
24:49 We showed our pictures and took turns
24:51 telling about God's work.
24:53 Well, Daniel, that was a wonderful way
24:54 to share Jesus.
24:55 I know that made Him very happy.
24:58 You know, I've been thinking about my list of blessings
25:01 and it's a very long list.
25:03 I'm so thankful for so many things.
25:05 I'm thankful for my family, I'm thankful for my children
25:09 and my grandson.
25:10 I'm thankful for the birds that fly in nature,
25:13 the beautiful things that God has given us.
25:16 But I think right at the top of the list,
25:18 I'd have to put as number one,
25:20 that Jesus loves me and he takes care of me
25:23 just as he did for Elijah.
25:25 He's just as powerful today boys and girls,
25:28 as he was in the Bible times.
25:30 But of all the wonderful things
25:32 that God can do,
25:33 I think the most wonderful thing of all
25:36 is that Jesus forgives us for our sins.
25:39 When we do something wrong, He will forgive us.
25:42 All we have to do is ask Him.
25:45 I have an idea,
25:46 let's take our list of blessings
25:48 and thank Him for each and every one of them.
25:50 Let's tell Him that we love Him.
25:52 For He never gets tired of hearing that, does He?
25:55 Do you get tired if someone tells you,
25:57 they love you? No.
25:59 But do we want to keep Jesus all to ourselves?
26:02 No, of course not.
26:04 Let's share Him with others.
26:06 That way will make Jesus happy,
26:08 other people happy, and ourselves happy.
26:12 Isn't that wonderful?
26:13 I wonder what ideas you have for sharing Jesus?
26:17 Would you write and tell me.
26:19 You know it doesn't have to be something big,
26:21 you don't have to know how to sing
26:24 or to play the violin or the piano
26:26 or to do anything really that's difficult
26:29 or you think is so special.
26:31 There's so many ways you can share Jesus.
26:33 You don't have to preach a sermon
26:35 or write a book either.
26:36 But do think of kind things,
26:38 be truthful even if others lie.
26:41 And you stand up for someone
26:42 if other children are picking on them too, okay.
26:45 You know, boys and girls,
26:47 Jesus loves you.
26:48 Remember, it's Kids Time to share Jesus.
