churches and we thought,

well, since we're
reopening these churches,

to really make use of
these church buildings,

we need to put
evening schools in them.

- Yeah, so normally a church
is open three hours a week.

Right? - True, Sabbath mornings.

- And so, the community
looks at the church as, oh,

they just want to convert us

or they, you know,
wanna just make us Christians.

And so there's,
the walls come up.

But when we put an
evening school there,

that's open six evenings a week

and it provides
a needed resource,

two needed
resources for the community.

Number one is it provides
food for their children.

And some of these kids,

that's the only
meal they get in the day.

meal they get in the day.

without that extra meal,

and this meal has vegetables
and so it has nutrition.

I've seen some kids that
they just are happy with,

like, they have some
rice there and boiling water

and they just
get this rice broth,

white rice broth,
and that's their meal.

And so we add,

it's not good for them. - No.

- So we make them
eat their veggies.

And the other need
that they have is education.

And this actually
grew out of an experience

that I had in 2004,

where I went with a
local pastor to a slum area.

And this is a slum
where they had their houses
00:02:20.57\00:02:23.34
between the road and the river.
00:02:23.34\00:02:26.37
And the river had had flooded
and washed away their homes.
00:02:26.37\00:02:30.28
It was like tent homes.
00:02:30.28\00:02:31.98
And so I asked
them, what do you need?

And I was thinking,
please, can we have money
00:02:34.52\00:02:36.65
to rebuild our homes or
buy utensils or buy food?

But no, they says our
children are not studying well,
00:02:40.56\00:02:43.66
they're not learning.
00:02:43.66\00:02:44.79
They'd send 'em to
the government school,
00:02:44.79\00:02:46.63
but the
teachers wouldn't show up

or they
wouldn't teach them well.

And so the kids aren't learning.

And so we started
thinking, well how can we help?

You know, and it's
expensive to start a day school.

- Right. - And very difficult.

And then you're in competition
with the government school.

- Right, and you need
a lot of infrastructure

plus the
teachers plus, plus, plus.

- Permission and all that stuff.

But if we provide an
evening school, a couple hours,

whatever they
learn during the day

or don't learn during the day,

they can bring their
homework to that school.

The teachers will then
give them that one-on-one time

to help them learn what they're

supposed to be
learning in school.

And then we also
provide that free meal.

- And then beyond that,
we've taken it to another level.

Thinking about the eternal
salvation of these children.

So we have time
during the evening

that's worship and they
hear character building stories.

They learn Scripture
songs or spiritual songs.

And so it's an
opportunity for them to have

something different and new
and yet point them to Jesus,

the one who can
answer their prayers.

don't discriminate.

It's like, any child can come

and we don't
try to convert them.

good character, you know,

and the Bible is the
best character development

resource that we have. - Right.

- And so they
learn the memory verses,

they learn the songs,
they learn all these things,

but we don't
require them to convert.

And the cool thing

is that, well, you'll
see some of the stories.

This is just a little
sample of stories that we hear

and that we see as a result
of having these evening schools.

Now what happens is that

as these evening
schools are in the villages

and taking care of the
kids six nights a week,

well then they start
viewing the church as, oh,

church is here to
bless our children.

They're here to
bless our community.

losing their prejudice.

it's not just about, oh,

we're just trying
to build up our church.

It's like, no, we're trying to

to help these kids

because the parents notice a
difference in their children,

difference in the communities.

blessing. - And so several times

we've had like the
local Hindu families

defending our
teacher and our school

against Hindus from outside

that wanna shut it
down because it's Christian.

- Yeah. Which is, that's a
huge testimony right there.

And so we did
this 10 village revival

and put an evening
school in every church.

- Right. - Which is so cool.

And anytime we
start out in a new area,

we're like, is it gonna work?

You know, is it needed?
And what's gonna happen?

money just down the drain?

And it's not a lot
of money, you know,

per child, it's $7 per month.

provides for their food,
like one meal six nights a week.

So that's six times
four, that's 24 meals.

And the parents are

And for so many, we've
had so many testimonies

not have been allowed

because of whatever
cast they're in or whatever.

it's a huge blessing

to the parents to be able to see

what their
children are learning.

school, we have the principal,

we have the teachers,
one or two or three teachers,

depending on the
size of the school.

And then we have

- And the first thing
we look for in a new area

the spiritual tone.

was called by God.

When the director asked
who would like to take on

the responsibility
of overseeing them,

I was the first to raise my hand

because God
impressed me to raise my hand.

During these past four years,

God has opened the
door to many homes.

Most of the
children that come are Hindu.

And when they come, they
learn about God and how to pray.

And because of that we are
able to reach their parents.

The children also
learn to be disciplined,

which helps them to be better
people in their communities.

Some of these children
also come to church on Sabbath,

but if it wasn't
for the evening school,

the parents wouldn't even
let them enter the church.

have gotten so comfortable

up their kids every day

to church on Sabbath too.

When I was just a Bible worker,

I used to visit
only Christian people,

but now through
the evening schools,

God is opening the doors for me

to visit mostly Hindu families.

Because of the children,

I am able to teach
the parents about God.

And God has brought many
souls from the Hindu community

to accept Jesus as
their personal savior.

I took her to the Hindu temple

father was very skeptical

more than the other pastors.

But I told him, I don't

but I serve a living God,

Many people had told me,

but I didn't believe them.

one of the Sunday pastors

and went to his church,

but afterward there was
a big problem in my family.

So I told him, okay, I want
you to try coming to my church

for just one
Sabbath, see what happens.

So all four of them
accepted my invitation

They stayed for the worship
service and then went home.

Then the next week they came
again and the father told me,

Before this, our children

because of what prayer has done.
