(inspirational music begins) 00:00:00.80\00:00:03.80 - Hello and welcome to Jesus For Asia Now. 00:00:22.02\00:00:24.72 I'm Natalie Wood and my husband John is here 00:00:24.72\00:00:26.72 with me today and we are going together to India. 00:00:26.72\00:00:30.39 Hello, love. 00:00:30.39\00:00:31.23 - Hi darling. 00:00:31.23\00:00:32.06 How are you? 00:00:32.06\00:00:33.09 - I'm looking forward to India. 00:00:33.09\00:00:34.20 - Yes. 00:00:34.20\00:00:35.00 - I miss India. 00:00:35.00\00:00:35.90 - Yes. 00:00:35.90\00:00:37.13 You haven't been there for quite a while. 00:00:37.13\00:00:38.03 - Right, right. 00:00:38.03\00:00:39.57 And we're going together today, to where in India? 00:00:39.57\00:00:42.64 - Well, this is up in the northeast part of India. 00:00:42.64\00:00:44.97 You know how India is kind of like a diamond or you know 00:00:44.97\00:00:48.31 shaped like a cone and then 00:00:48.31\00:00:49.61 on the eastern side it cruises way 00:00:49.61\00:00:52.21 up over Bangladesh and then touches Myanmar 00:00:52.21\00:00:56.92 or what used to be called Burma on the far east. 00:00:56.92\00:01:00.09 - [Natalie] Okay. 00:01:00.09\00:01:01.16 - [John] And this state is Manipur down 00:01:01.16\00:01:02.72 in the lower section of the farthest eastern part of India. 00:01:02.72\00:01:07.66 As we zoom in, we can see that Manipur is very mountainous 00:01:07.66\00:01:10.97 except for a flat plain in the center with a lake. 00:01:10.97\00:01:14.94 And if you look real close just 00:01:14.94\00:01:16.94 to the left of that brownish area 00:01:16.94\00:01:19.97 there's like a brown dot up in the mountains. 00:01:19.97\00:01:22.94 We're gonna zoom into that brown dot 00:01:22.94\00:01:24.91 and you'll see Khoupum Valley. 00:01:24.91\00:01:27.05 Keep zooming in. 00:01:27.05\00:01:28.75 And this is the valley itself. 00:01:28.75\00:01:30.82 And over on the right hand side you zoom in again. 00:01:30.82\00:01:34.09 - [Natalie] Okay. 00:01:34.09\00:01:35.46 - [John] You'll see that's the school we're going to today. 00:01:35.46\00:01:37.43 - So how did we find out 00:01:37.43\00:01:38.79 about this school and how did Jesus for Asia get involved? 00:01:38.79\00:01:41.33 - Well, our good friends, Dennis 00:01:41.33\00:01:42.66 and Judy Skandunas have been traveling 00:01:42.66\00:01:45.87 to Asia for many years now. 00:01:45.87\00:01:47.90 They were going to like a maranatha build or something 00:01:47.90\00:01:50.77 and there was a young man that they ended up talking to. 00:01:50.77\00:01:53.58 He's from Nepal and they ended up sponsoring him 00:01:53.58\00:01:56.24 through college, through Spicer University. 00:01:56.24\00:01:58.88 - Okay. 00:01:58.88\00:02:00.25 - And he found this school way over in Manipur 00:02:00.25\00:02:02.75 maybe on one of his mission trips or something. 00:02:02.75\00:02:05.32 And he fell in love with the school. 00:02:05.32\00:02:06.59 He saw this school really needed help. 00:02:06.59\00:02:08.42 It was a worthy cause. 00:02:08.42\00:02:09.79 - Mm. 00:02:09.79\00:02:10.59 - [John] So he stayed there. 00:02:10.59\00:02:11.63 - Okay. 00:02:11.63\00:02:12.96 - [John] And he took on this project all on his own. 00:02:12.96\00:02:15.63 - Wow. 00:02:15.63\00:02:16.43 - And the school was remarkable 00:02:16.43\00:02:17.73 because it had been in service for almost 50 years. 00:02:17.73\00:02:20.70 - Hmm. 00:02:20.70\00:02:22.07 - There's three churches, three Adventist churches 00:02:22.07\00:02:23.94 around that area and all the elders 00:02:23.94\00:02:26.11 from those churches had gotten together and says 00:02:26.11\00:02:28.24 we need a school to educate our kids. 00:02:28.24\00:02:30.78 - Wow. 00:02:30.78\00:02:32.08 - But over the years, there's been several schools 00:02:32.08\00:02:34.38 developed by other denominations that are very well funded. 00:02:34.38\00:02:38.05 They've got massive buildings, they've got buses to 00:02:38.05\00:02:40.79 bust the children, they've got computer labs 00:02:40.79\00:02:43.06 and all this kind of stuff. 00:02:43.06\00:02:44.09 And this little school was just barely 00:02:44.09\00:02:46.86 - Hanging on. - [John] Making it on its own. 00:02:46.86\00:02:48.53 So Dennis and Judy went to visit him at that school 00:02:48.53\00:02:51.77 and they stayed there for a long time and he kept telling us 00:02:51.77\00:02:54.30 how amazing the school was and how needy it was and just 00:02:54.30\00:02:58.17 it was just so, so close to his heart. 00:02:58.17\00:03:00.41 We see schools as long term evangelism. 00:03:00.41\00:03:03.31 - Right. 00:03:03.31\00:03:04.68 - [John] Because you come in and do an evangelistic series 00:03:04.68\00:03:06.95 and it gives a lot of information, but it doesn't have 00:03:06.95\00:03:09.82 like a lifestyle change environment. 00:03:09.82\00:03:13.66 - Right. 00:03:13.66\00:03:14.89 - A school gives an environment in which the kids 00:03:14.89\00:03:17.09 can change over the course of many years. 00:03:17.09\00:03:20.13 - Right. 00:03:20.13\00:03:21.20 - [John] And so we started praying 00:03:21.20\00:03:22.50 and thinking about it and helping it here and there and... 00:03:22.50\00:03:25.30 - So since people were already donating for the school, 00:03:25.30\00:03:28.00 Dennis and Judy were sharing about the school, 00:03:28.00\00:03:29.94 they shared about it at Faith Camp, 00:03:29.94\00:03:31.61 we decided to make it an official project 00:03:31.61\00:03:34.21 - [John] Yes. 00:03:34.21\00:03:35.04 - At Jesus Frazier. 00:03:35.04\00:03:36.31 So people can donate directly to the Manipur school. 00:03:36.31\00:03:39.98 - [John] Yeah. 00:03:39.98\00:03:40.82 - Through JFA. 00:03:40.82\00:03:41.95 - Yeah, and so we just recently sent 00:03:41.95\00:03:43.82 our video team over there. 00:03:43.82\00:03:45.69 - Right. 00:03:45.69\00:03:47.06 - And this is the video that they came back with. 00:03:47.06\00:03:48.89 - [Natalie] Okay. 00:03:48.89\00:03:50.36 - Actually I came for my vacation. 00:03:50.36\00:03:52.59 But when I came for my vacation, I see the school 00:03:52.59\00:03:55.90 which has been established since 1972. 00:03:58.87\00:04:01.20 But seeing the school condition, 00:04:02.27\00:04:03.51 I was just wondering because knowing 00:04:03.51\00:04:06.21 that Seventh-Day Adventist is not 00:04:06.21\00:04:08.18 a small organization or a church 00:04:08.18\00:04:11.01 and having a Seventh-day Adventist school 00:04:11.01\00:04:12.65 in such kind of condition, I was feeling really pity. 00:04:12.65\00:04:15.22 So I thought if we can do something. 00:04:15.22\00:04:19.02 (pensive music) 00:04:19.02\00:04:21.76 (loud school bell chiming) 00:04:26.43\00:04:30.03 (footsteps on dirt) 00:04:31.37\00:04:34.44 - In 1972, the Adventist people of Taulingpong 00:04:36.50\00:04:41.01 and Tutangsang got together 00:04:41.01\00:04:43.18 and decided that they will set up this Adventist school. 00:04:43.18\00:04:46.45 The school has suffered a lot in the past. 00:04:51.15\00:04:54.72 There were moments of tears and heartache. 00:04:54.72\00:04:58.23 Initially the school did not have a tin roof 00:04:58.23\00:05:01.46 and the walls were made of bamboo and thatched roof. 00:05:01.46\00:05:05.07 We collected the materials for the building 00:05:06.30\00:05:09.20 from a far distance in the mountain. 00:05:09.20\00:05:11.84 The hope of having a good building 00:05:12.94\00:05:15.28 in the future motivate us to work 00:05:15.28\00:05:18.68 for the school relentlessly. 00:05:18.68\00:05:21.55 We prayed in our family churches 00:05:21.55\00:05:24.49 and the school committee get together and prayed 00:05:24.49\00:05:27.89 that God will provide the help needed 00:05:27.89\00:05:31.03 for the school in the near future. 00:05:31.03\00:05:33.19 (music continues) 00:05:34.23\00:05:37.57 But sadly, most of the pioneers who work together with me, 00:05:37.57\00:05:42.54 around 20 of them had passed away. 00:05:42.54\00:05:45.57 And since then we were so worried 00:05:46.84\00:05:49.44 that the school will not continue to go on. 00:05:49.44\00:05:53.38 Since our elders and the pioneers have gone and passed 00:05:53.38\00:05:57.59 away. (yelling in foreign language) 00:06:01.29\00:06:05.19 (wooden stick pounding) 00:06:06.63\00:06:10.00 (metal tins clanking) 00:06:10.90\00:06:14.47 - Can you open this? 00:06:14.47\00:06:16.20 - I happened to come in this place. 00:06:19.11\00:06:22.58 And then actually I came for my vacation. 00:06:22.58\00:06:26.01 But when I came for my vacation 00:06:26.01\00:06:27.42 I see the school which has been established in 1972. 00:06:27.42\00:06:32.62 But seeing the school's condition 00:06:33.69\00:06:34.49 I was just wondering because the 00:06:34.49\00:06:36.49 the roof now when it was raining was dropping the rain drops 00:06:36.49\00:06:41.53 of water inside the classrooms 00:06:42.33\00:06:44.07 and there were no proper concrete floor. 00:06:44.07\00:06:47.00 So it was fully muddy. 00:06:47.00\00:06:48.50 And when the children walk in 00:06:48.50\00:06:49.84 it was like their shoes were quite thick, you know? 00:06:49.84\00:06:53.61 And then that was another challenging and 00:06:53.61\00:06:55.91 the walls were made of bamboo. 00:06:57.05\00:06:59.31 So when the wind and storm comes 00:06:59.31\00:07:01.48 children were very frightened. 00:07:01.48\00:07:03.89 So those were the conditions. 00:07:03.89\00:07:05.79 Knowing that Seventh-day Adventist 00:07:05.79\00:07:07.86 is not a small organization or a church 00:07:07.86\00:07:11.33 and having a Seventh-day Adventist school 00:07:11.33\00:07:12.99 in such kind of condition, I was feeling really pity. 00:07:12.99\00:07:16.40 So I thought if we can do something. 00:07:16.40\00:07:19.83 So that's how I landed out here. 00:07:19.83\00:07:21.90 (brooms sweeping concrete) 00:07:23.00\00:07:25.31 (indistinct conversation) 00:07:25.31\00:07:29.14 (construction noises) 00:07:29.14\00:07:33.05 (tarp rustling) 00:07:33.05\00:07:35.78 - [Camera Person] Do you know what is this for? 00:07:36.89\00:07:38.62 - Huh? 00:07:38.62\00:07:39.75 - [Camera Person] What is this for? 00:07:39.75\00:07:40.56 - For dividing the classes. 00:07:40.56\00:07:42.82 (pensive music) 00:07:42.82\00:07:45.56 - [Kagugai] Our school is fractured so bad 00:07:47.73\00:07:49.10 that even in the nearby villages 00:07:49.10\00:07:52.60 they don't send their students here. 00:07:52.60\00:07:54.40 They let their students walk around 00:07:54.40\00:07:57.84 more than 2 kilometers from their house. 00:07:57.84\00:08:00.91 But this school is right beside their house. 00:08:00.91\00:08:03.88 (children singing) 00:08:03.88\00:08:05.51 - [Gainimlu] So there is no window, no fan. 00:08:05.51\00:08:08.38 During the hot days, really it is very hot. 00:08:08.38\00:08:12.62 No fresh wind comes in. 00:08:12.62\00:08:15.29 So the children, they struggle a lot. 00:08:15.29\00:08:17.83 - [Richard] The facilities, I should say we are way behind. 00:08:17.83\00:08:22.60 They have a classrooms, but the lower class, 00:08:22.60\00:08:24.73 they don't have proper classrooms. 00:08:24.73\00:08:27.94 They have a classroom who is clustered 00:08:27.94\00:08:30.21 and compact and no proper place for washing hands. 00:08:31.57\00:08:35.64 No proper place for hygiene practices. 00:08:35.64\00:08:39.31 (music continues) 00:08:39.31\00:08:42.22 (bugs chittering and birds chirping) 00:08:45.09\00:08:49.56 (water splashing) 00:08:51.66\00:08:54.56 - [Andy] I live in Numba and the place is, from here 00:08:55.86\00:08:59.70 it's about 47 kilometers from here. 00:08:59.70\00:09:03.30 Around one and a half hour 00:09:03.30\00:09:05.97 in the roads in the hilly place, the road is not good. 00:09:05.97\00:09:08.44 So it takes time. 00:09:08.44\00:09:10.78 When I first came, it was hard. 00:09:11.58\00:09:13.72 And I was sleeping on three step bed. 00:09:13.72\00:09:18.15 When it was hot it was very hard to manage, 00:09:18.15\00:09:21.12 you know, one bed. 00:09:21.12\00:09:22.42 Both of us sleep together. 00:09:22.42\00:09:23.86 - [Pasang] You know, after the request of parents, 00:09:25.36\00:09:28.00 we even put in one bed, two student, 00:09:28.00\00:09:31.53 so it was like 80 student, like 40. 00:09:31.53\00:09:34.37 But some of the parents start complaining 00:09:34.37\00:09:37.11 because it was a Covid time. 00:09:37.11\00:09:39.31 You know, people 00:09:39.31\00:09:40.68 the whole world is asking us to maintain distance. 00:09:40.68\00:09:42.61 And whereas we make them sleep together and you know 00:09:42.61\00:09:45.31 there was a crisis. 00:09:45.31\00:09:46.65 So the 80, we have to put it down into 40 again. 00:09:46.65\00:09:49.98 So that was another big challenge that we had. 00:09:49.98\00:09:52.12 So if that moment, if we had enough room, 00:09:52.12\00:09:55.89 I think that all the, it could have been here. 00:09:55.89\00:09:58.26 - [Richard] And staff rooms, 00:10:03.83\00:10:05.13 we don't have a proper drinking water. 00:10:05.13\00:10:08.20 We have to carry our own bottle 00:10:09.30\00:10:10.71 which will finish in hot days. 00:10:10.71\00:10:12.44 And it's not enough. 00:10:12.44\00:10:14.48 - When there is electricity, we pump water from the river 00:10:14.48\00:10:17.58 the same river where we take bath. 00:10:17.58\00:10:19.88 And if there is no electricity 00:10:19.88\00:10:21.72 we request all the 40 student to go with each bucket. 00:10:21.72\00:10:26.19 And then they carry one, one bucket and they 00:10:26.19\00:10:28.52 they drop it to eat. 00:10:28.52\00:10:29.92 And this water, we try as much as to boil. 00:10:29.92\00:10:33.29 We use fire root here 00:10:33.29\00:10:34.76 and we try to boil it and give them the water. 00:10:34.76\00:10:37.47 So that's the only option we are doing. 00:10:37.47\00:10:40.07 - [Andy] The water is not clean. 00:10:40.07\00:10:41.64 We used to drink when it's sunny, when we get thirsty 00:10:41.64\00:10:45.21 nobody cares that when the water is there we just drink it. 00:10:45.21\00:10:49.18 Whether it's pure, whether it's not pure. 00:10:49.18\00:10:51.71 So because of that some, some of the students get sick. 00:10:51.71\00:10:55.62 (children singing) 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.75 (clapping) 00:11:02.56\00:11:04.89 (hammering) 00:11:05.76\00:11:08.13 - [Richard] We don't have a place 00:11:09.83\00:11:11.23 to keep our things. 00:11:11.23\00:11:13.47 The teachers' room. 00:11:15.14\00:11:16.17 It keeps on shifting from one place 00:11:17.21\00:11:18.71 to another place depending on the situation. 00:11:18.71\00:11:21.31 - [Gainimlu] Also we don't have separate toilets. 00:11:22.64\00:11:24.38 We are using the same toilets as the children. 00:11:24.38\00:11:26.41 Sometimes we go to the toilets, and they are full. 00:11:26.41\00:11:28.98 Sometimes students are running inside also. 00:11:28.98\00:11:31.62 I think separate toilets are also necessary 00:11:31.62\00:11:34.19 for the school, for the staff. 00:11:34.19\00:11:36.06 - [Richard] The lower class will have to use the same bins 00:11:36.06\00:11:38.13 for the dining room, for the hostellers. 00:11:38.13\00:11:40.60 And then they, then they have to bring back 00:11:40.60\00:11:42.83 wipe it off with clothes 00:11:42.83\00:11:44.73 and use the same dining table for the classrooms. 00:11:44.73\00:11:48.67 - [Gainimlu] Because the hostellers they didn't have 00:11:48.67\00:11:50.31 dining room, so they used to come and have 00:11:50.31\00:11:52.61 food here in the morning. 00:11:52.61\00:11:54.14 Then when I come, things are not there 00:11:54.14\00:11:55.61 because the benches are not available. 00:11:55.61\00:11:57.88 After they finish their breakfast, 00:11:57.88\00:11:59.95 I have to take the benches and arrange 00:11:59.95\00:12:01.22 for the classroom every day. 00:12:01.22\00:12:02.65 Almost every day, I arrange them. 00:12:02.65\00:12:04.92 (indistinct conversation) 00:12:04.92\00:12:06.99 (chopping on wood) 00:12:06.99\00:12:09.72 (metal tray clanking) 00:12:09.72\00:12:11.79 - [Pasang] This is our hostel cafeteria 00:12:11.79\00:12:13.43 for both boys and girls 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.86 which we use our girls' veranda as a cafeteria. 00:12:15.86\00:12:19.87 To sit and eat, 00:12:20.94\00:12:22.04 it's not really a normal out here, 00:12:22.04\00:12:25.01 but since we don't have any benches or table for them to eat 00:12:25.01\00:12:28.61 so we are making them to eat this way. 00:12:28.61\00:12:30.95 We serve mostly Dahl. 00:12:30.95\00:12:33.08 And then with some green leaves 00:12:33.08\00:12:36.25 since we can't afford much best food. 00:12:36.25\00:12:38.95 So that's the simplest food we could give them. 00:12:38.95\00:12:42.96 (soft laughter) 00:12:42.96\00:12:45.69 - [Kagugai] Because of the funds, 00:12:46.73\00:12:48.20 our school doesn't have any things for that so 00:12:48.20\00:12:51.13 mostly we teach verbally 00:12:51.13\00:12:52.60 only through teaching through theory. 00:12:52.60\00:12:54.77 So we hardly get to this practical. 00:12:54.77\00:12:57.21 Even I, 00:12:57.21\00:12:58.01 I even sacrifice my salary 00:12:59.04\00:13:00.84 to buy all these practical things. 00:13:00.84\00:13:02.91 - There is no other resources for the school. 00:13:02.91\00:13:04.98 But for the teachers, if the parents pay, parents pay 00:13:04.98\00:13:07.88 then we got our salaries. 00:13:07.88\00:13:09.08 We get a salary. 00:13:09.08\00:13:10.45 If they don't pay, then we have to wait for them. 00:13:10.45\00:13:12.39 - [Kagugai] Even me, I have a lot of work to do at home. 00:13:12.39\00:13:15.22 Like , during free time, I run for my farm. 00:13:15.22\00:13:19.23 The orange farm. 00:13:19.23\00:13:20.23 And I did some... 00:13:20.23\00:13:21.30 There, from there we get some income. 00:13:21.30\00:13:23.73 So we manage with that. 00:13:23.73\00:13:25.23 - [Gainimlu] We have soil cultivation. 00:13:25.23\00:13:26.84 And we have some small garden, we have some farm. 00:13:26.84\00:13:29.70 So from there, we get vegetables. 00:13:29.70\00:13:32.07 And food we get from the paddy field. 00:13:32.07\00:13:34.91 - [Richard] Of course we are getting a lot of pay 00:13:34.91\00:13:37.28 outside of Manipur, outside different places. 00:13:37.28\00:13:40.28 But here I'm getting just a small amount 00:13:40.28\00:13:43.25 with 6,000 to 7,000 maybe. 00:13:43.25\00:13:46.86 We have a better opportunity even till now and then 00:13:46.86\00:13:51.93 like calling from different places. 00:13:53.06\00:13:54.63 We need a music teacher, we're gonna pay you 50,000 00:13:54.63\00:13:56.20 in a month and all those offers are there. 00:13:56.20\00:13:58.97 But I have a duty 00:13:58.97\00:14:01.54 which I should do for our own church and 00:14:01.54\00:14:04.11 for our own people and for my own people. 00:14:04.11\00:14:06.81 So I said no to those offers. 00:14:06.81\00:14:10.58 And then I'm here for whatever amount. 00:14:10.58\00:14:13.98 - [Pasang] Teachers are sacrificing only 00:14:15.12\00:14:16.72 with 50 to hundred dollars a month. 00:14:16.72\00:14:19.42 And knowing that our school has a very less income 00:14:19.42\00:14:24.26 and the teachers are not getting the salary on time. 00:14:24.26\00:14:27.36 So you know, there comes a time we find very hard 00:14:27.36\00:14:31.03 for our parents to convince them to pay their dues 00:14:31.03\00:14:34.70 or their fees every month. 00:14:34.70\00:14:36.50 And then when the teachers, you know 00:14:36.50\00:14:37.91 come and tell because they come and ask, 00:14:37.91\00:14:40.68 Sir, we have no option then to ask the money from you. 00:14:40.68\00:14:45.31 But again, I have no resource, no income for the school. 00:14:45.31\00:14:48.25 So like, you know, all those challenges were there. 00:14:48.25\00:14:51.75 - If we have to compare it in terms 00:14:54.22\00:14:55.86 of money and in terms of value, I would say it is very 00:14:55.86\00:15:00.36 very hard to keep us ourselves motivated 00:15:00.36\00:15:03.60 for this small amount of money that we have to sacrifice 00:15:03.60\00:15:06.47 to the whole day, the whole month, the whole year. 00:15:06.47\00:15:09.50 But knowing that this is the only school 00:15:11.17\00:15:15.28 and this is the first school 00:15:15.28\00:15:19.51 from this whole area, Khoupum area. 00:15:19.51\00:15:21.82 And knowing that it is an Adventist school 00:15:21.82\00:15:23.95 and I'm an Adventist 00:15:23.95\00:15:25.45 so I want this school to keep on going. 00:15:25.45\00:15:28.96 So with whatever I can, I want the school to keep on going. 00:15:28.96\00:15:33.83 Okay. 00:15:34.86\00:15:36.40 - [Andy] I came to know, yes, 00:15:36.40\00:15:37.20 this is the best school which we 00:15:37.20\00:15:39.97 can learn a good thing, discipline, whatever we need. 00:15:39.97\00:15:44.37 This is a place which we can get. 00:15:44.37\00:15:47.04 - [Pasang] When I see that the children's smile 00:15:47.04\00:15:50.01 when they come in 00:15:50.98\00:15:52.01 and walk in, you know, and then knowing 00:15:52.01\00:15:54.65 if I stopped ,where these children will go? 00:15:54.65\00:15:58.19 And this is the only Adventist school 00:15:59.25\00:16:01.09 and me being, becoming an Adventist true school. 00:16:02.42\00:16:06.96 And if I have to give up or 00:16:06.96\00:16:09.06 if I have to stop and seeing those children again, 00:16:09.06\00:16:13.57 I should never do that because those children were lost. 00:16:13.57\00:16:17.87 They were lost. 00:16:17.87\00:16:18.91 - [Kagugai] If our school condition was good, 00:16:20.21\00:16:21.24 at least they would have the mind 00:16:21.24\00:16:23.14 that they could send their children to this school. 00:16:23.14\00:16:25.38 So I want, for my side, as the teacher, 00:16:25.38\00:16:28.35 I want the sponsors to help us 00:16:28.35\00:16:31.59 complete this building as soon as possible. 00:16:31.59\00:16:33.66 That's what I want. 00:16:33.66\00:16:35.06 - [Gainimlu] All these things are available, then the school 00:16:35.06\00:16:36.93 will automatically will rise up. 00:16:36.93\00:16:39.86 As more students will also be coming. 00:16:39.86\00:16:43.67 - [Richard] I want all the children to be successful. 00:16:43.67\00:16:45.60 I don't want any of them to be left behind. 00:16:45.60\00:16:47.57 They, they should find value or a place in the society. 00:16:47.57\00:16:52.64 So we try as much as possible for whatever we learn 00:16:53.91\00:16:56.71 and whatever we know we want the kids to learn. 00:16:56.71\00:16:59.48 - [Gaichalung] I am getting old. 00:17:03.22\00:17:04.75 and my years are increasing day by day. 00:17:04.75\00:17:08.09 I do not know when I will die, 00:17:08.09\00:17:11.06 but it is in God's hand. 00:17:11.06\00:17:13.50 And my last hope and wish is that 00:17:16.70\00:17:20.67 before I die, I want to see the completion of this school 00:17:20.67\00:17:25.74 with all my grandchildren and great grandchildren 00:17:27.11\00:17:31.45 happily attending their new school. 00:17:31.45\00:17:35.15 This is my final wish. 00:17:35.15\00:17:37.12 (emotional music begins playing) 00:17:37.12\00:17:41.29 (music fades) 00:18:09.32\00:18:11.89 - What do you think we should do? 00:18:12.92\00:18:14.52 (soft chuckling) 00:18:14.52\00:18:15.36 - Keep going. 00:18:15.36\00:18:16.19 - [John] Mm. 00:18:16.19\00:18:16.99 - So they have finished two 00:18:16.99\00:18:18.09 of the classrooms that they were talking about. 00:18:18.09\00:18:20.13 - Yes. 00:18:20.13\00:18:20.93 - And they're working on... 00:18:20.93\00:18:22.50 - [John] Four more. 00:18:22.50\00:18:23.87 Pasang's vision is to have a large building that's 00:18:23.87\00:18:26.77 like 28 classrooms. 00:18:27.94\00:18:29.64 - Right. 00:18:29.64\00:18:30.71 - With teachers' lounges and offices 00:18:30.71\00:18:34.74 and computer labs and all the rest. 00:18:34.74\00:18:37.11 He wants a full blown school similar 00:18:37.11\00:18:40.55 to the other ones that are in the area. 00:18:40.55\00:18:42.88 - Mm-hmm. 00:18:42.88\00:18:44.02 - [John] Somebody donated some funds 00:18:44.02\00:18:45.79 and we started building two 00:18:45.79\00:18:48.62 and they've got those two done and got another four 00:18:48.62\00:18:53.70 in process because that's the first floor of one wing. 00:18:55.03\00:18:57.60 - Okay. 00:18:57.60\00:18:58.43 - With a hallway in 00:18:58.43\00:18:59.80 between two wings and then go up like five floors. 00:18:59.80\00:19:02.50 - Okay. 00:19:02.50\00:19:03.84 - [John] So we've got pictures of them building. 00:19:03.84\00:19:05.21 This is one of the first classrooms that they have. 00:19:05.21\00:19:07.58 Look at the difference between that and where they've been. 00:19:07.58\00:19:10.11 - [Natalie] Yeah. 00:19:10.11\00:19:11.21 - [John] To build these buildings. 00:19:11.21\00:19:12.51 It's not just hired construction workers when 00:19:12.51\00:19:16.25 the funds are really lacking and they wanna move forward, 00:19:16.25\00:19:19.92 'cause this foundation was sitting waiting to be built 00:19:19.92\00:19:23.32 for months and months and months. 00:19:23.32\00:19:25.46 And so the kids got out there 00:19:25.46\00:19:28.20 and they started doing what they could do. 00:19:28.20\00:19:30.03 Digging and leveling and breaking 00:19:30.03\00:19:32.27 up rock and putting that in there. 00:19:32.27\00:19:34.67 - [Natalie] Yeah. 00:19:34.67\00:19:35.97 - [John] And then when the funds came, they bought cement. 00:19:35.97\00:19:37.81 Now the cement, the wood, all these things they have 00:19:37.81\00:19:41.44 it has to be hauled for like three hours up 00:19:41.44\00:19:44.08 really steep mountains and down in steep ravines. 00:19:44.08\00:19:47.02 And so it's not an easy task when we say, Hey 00:19:47.02\00:19:50.55 can you just pick up a load of, a load of cement? 00:19:50.55\00:19:53.15 - It's not the little cement truck that comes 00:19:53.15\00:19:54.92 out or the big cement truck? 00:19:54.92\00:19:56.93 - No. 00:19:56.93\00:19:57.93 They bring the sand 00:19:57.93\00:19:58.99 and they bring the gravel and the cement. 00:19:58.99\00:20:01.56 - [Natalie] And, and they, they mix it themselves. 00:20:01.56\00:20:02.66 - [John] And they have a mixer there. 00:20:02.66\00:20:05.03 - [Natalie] Yeah. - [John] But it's the kids. 00:20:05.03\00:20:05.90 - [Natalie] The mixer. 00:20:05.90\00:20:07.24 I love that it says Jesus For Asia on the side. 00:20:07.24\00:20:08.87 - [John] Yeah. 00:20:08.87\00:20:10.17 - [Natalie] Cause he bought it with donations. 00:20:10.17\00:20:11.87 - We've got a little quick video that Pasang took 00:20:11.87\00:20:14.54 on his phone. 00:20:14.54\00:20:15.64 This is a shot of the work on the ground. 00:20:15.64\00:20:17.65 This is taken from the roof of the first floor. 00:20:17.65\00:20:20.32 You can just see they're all actively busy together 00:20:20.32\00:20:22.88 and moving sand from one spot 00:20:22.88\00:20:24.55 to the next and carrying buckets of stuff away. 00:20:24.55\00:20:27.36 And there he is making cement 00:20:27.36\00:20:28.69 and dumping the cement out on the ground. 00:20:28.69\00:20:30.49 And then they'll come with the buckets 00:20:30.49\00:20:32.06 and pick that up and carry it to the top of the building. 00:20:32.06\00:20:34.96 And the next video we have, Pasang is going down. 00:20:34.96\00:20:37.87 They've got a, they built a bamboo ramp 00:20:37.87\00:20:39.57 up to the top of the 00:20:39.57\00:20:41.20 of the building because they have to put the roof in. 00:20:41.20\00:20:44.04 - [Natalie] Mm. 00:20:44.04\00:20:45.27 - [John] Okay, the roof for the first floor 00:20:45.27\00:20:46.51 which is the floor for the second floor. 00:20:46.51\00:20:48.31 So this is how the school's getting built. 00:20:48.31\00:20:50.65 - [Natalie] Awesome. 00:20:50.65\00:20:52.18 - [John] You can see all those bamboo posts holding 00:20:52.18\00:20:53.72 up the frames to pour the cement in. 00:20:53.72\00:20:56.99 - [Natalie] Okay. 00:20:56.99\00:20:58.25 - [John] Everything is completely manual. 00:20:58.25\00:20:59.69 - [Natalie] You know, 00:20:59.69\00:21:00.86 the fact that it was started by the elders 00:21:00.86\00:21:02.92 - Mm. 00:21:02.92\00:21:03.59 - [Natalie] You know, 00:21:03.59\00:21:04.69 they were significantly younger 50 years ago. 00:21:04.69\00:21:07.30 - Yeah. 00:21:07.30\00:21:08.36 - [Natalie] When they started this school. 00:21:08.36\00:21:08.90 - [John] Yeah. 00:21:08.90\00:21:10.03 - You know, and the one man was saying, you know 00:21:10.03\00:21:11.57 at least 20 have died. 00:21:11.57\00:21:13.17 - [John] Yeah. 00:21:13.17\00:21:14.30 - It's just, it's just like, oh man. 00:21:14.30\00:21:15.84 - [John] Yeah. 00:21:15.84\00:21:17.17 - You know, and they never got to see the school 00:21:17.17\00:21:18.24 become what they dreamed it could be. 00:21:18.24\00:21:20.31 - Right. 00:21:20.31\00:21:21.38 - [Natalie] And you know, the fact that some 00:21:21.38\00:21:22.71 of the parents that live right there send their kids 00:21:22.71\00:21:25.25 to other schools because they have better opportunities. 00:21:25.25\00:21:27.75 - Mm-hmm. 00:21:27.75\00:21:28.58 It's really sad. 00:21:28.58\00:21:29.92 - But then the one young man was saying he came here 00:21:29.92\00:21:32.32 because he heard it was a good school, 00:21:32.32\00:21:33.89 he could get what he needed. 00:21:33.89\00:21:35.32 - Yeah. 00:21:35.32\00:21:36.69 - I think God is blessing, in spite of the circumstances. 00:21:36.69\00:21:38.86 - [John] Right. 00:21:38.86\00:21:40.23 People know that this school has better quality as far 00:21:40.23\00:21:42.60 as character development. 00:21:42.60\00:21:44.33 And so people do come 00:21:44.33\00:21:45.87 to the school for those reasons, but it's limited. 00:21:45.87\00:21:48.90 They're turning away kids. - [Natalie] Right. 00:21:48.90\00:21:50.34 - [John] That want to come to 00:21:50.34\00:21:51.31 the school and are not able to. 00:21:51.31\00:21:52.81 - [Natalie] Yeah. 00:21:52.81\00:21:54.11 - They don't have enough classrooms, 00:21:54.11\00:21:55.31 they don't have enough dormitory rooms, 00:21:55.31\00:21:57.01 they just don't have enough facilities. 00:21:57.01\00:21:58.71 - They didn't have a cafeteria room. 00:21:58.71\00:22:00.25 - Yeah. 00:22:00.25\00:22:01.05 - Now I wanted to explain, 00:22:01.05\00:22:02.45 because he didn't explain it very much in the video, 00:22:02.45\00:22:04.59 - [John] Uh-huh. 00:22:04.59\00:22:05.72 - But in that area it is extremely improper 00:22:05.72\00:22:07.99 for them to eat sitting on the floor. 00:22:07.99\00:22:09.92 In many other areas, 00:22:09.92\00:22:11.29 that's not the it's case. - That's perfectly fine. 00:22:11.29\00:22:12.79 - But in that area it's extremely not right. 00:22:12.79\00:22:16.93 - [John] Yes. 00:22:16.93\00:22:18.07 - For them to be sitting on the floor and eating. 00:22:18.07\00:22:19.13 - [John] Yes. - And this is one 00:22:19.13\00:22:20.24 of the reasons that they have such urgency 00:22:20.24\00:22:22.40 that this school needs to be better 00:22:22.40\00:22:24.01 and it needs to be better now because these kids, you know 00:22:24.01\00:22:27.38 they're not being treated properly by the school. 00:22:27.38\00:22:29.44 - [John] Yeah. 00:22:29.44\00:22:30.48 - According to the beliefs of their parents 00:22:30.48\00:22:31.85 and grandparents. 00:22:31.85\00:22:32.68 - Correct. 00:22:32.68\00:22:33.78 And so when we add these classrooms in 00:22:33.78\00:22:34.58 then that takes the weight off 00:22:34.58\00:22:37.05 of those rooms that can then be converted 00:22:37.05\00:22:38.92 into a dining room and 00:22:38.92\00:22:41.39 and all the other things that, that is needed. 00:22:41.39\00:22:43.49 Also, dormitory rooms that, that more kids can come 00:22:43.49\00:22:46.73 and be a part of the school. 00:22:46.73\00:22:47.83 - [Natalie] Right. 00:22:47.83\00:22:48.83 They believe very strongly. 00:22:48.83\00:22:50.13 And they've seen that if they have a good school 00:22:50.13\00:22:53.50 then the parents will pay. 00:22:53.50\00:22:54.94 - [John] Right. 00:22:54.94\00:22:56.44 - And then the teachers will be able to be paid more. 00:22:56.44\00:22:57.34 - Right. 00:22:57.34\00:22:58.61 - So there's so much heart there. 00:22:58.61\00:22:59.47 - [John] Yes. 00:22:59.47\00:23:00.64 - I mean, you see that in all of them. 00:23:00.64\00:23:01.44 They're, they're sacrificing. 00:23:01.44\00:23:02.68 - [John] Oh yeah. 00:23:02.68\00:23:04.05 - You know, even from the little that they do get 00:23:04.05\00:23:05.48 - [John] Uh-huh. 00:23:05.48\00:23:06.51 - They're sacrificing to buy materials 00:23:06.51\00:23:08.55 for the kids to learn with. 00:23:08.55\00:23:09.88 - Materials like books, pens, paper. 00:23:09.88\00:23:13.19 - [Natalie] Yeah. 00:23:13.19\00:23:14.26 - Those basic, you know, textbooks and things 00:23:14.26\00:23:15.66 like that that they, you, you just take for granted. 00:23:15.66\00:23:17.93 - You have to have for school. 00:23:17.93\00:23:18.73 - [John] You have to have, yeah. 00:23:18.73\00:23:19.79 Now he has a vision for growing this school. 00:23:19.79\00:23:22.60 - Right. 00:23:22.60\00:23:23.97 - And also like a bus that he can go and pick up kids. 00:23:23.97\00:23:26.30 Now these kids walk like one to two, to three to four 00:23:26.30\00:23:29.27 or five kilometers away. 00:23:29.27\00:23:31.04 And when it's raining they get there. 00:23:31.04\00:23:32.81 They're all muddy and wet and cold. 00:23:32.81\00:23:34.71 - Right. 00:23:34.71\00:23:36.08 - They just recently did an evangelistic series where 00:23:36.08\00:23:37.78 the whole school went out about three hours drive 00:23:37.78\00:23:40.08 to another village. 00:23:40.08\00:23:41.52 - Oh, wonderful. 00:23:41.52\00:23:42.82 - And the town said, please come back anytime. 00:23:42.82\00:23:44.69 We'd love to have you back. 00:23:44.69\00:23:45.72 - So beyond the growth of the school, 00:23:45.72\00:23:48.26 beyond what the school will be doing, you know 00:23:48.26\00:23:51.39 physically as far as facilities, 00:23:51.39\00:23:53.53 - Mm-hmm. 00:23:53.53\00:23:54.30 - The fact that it will be there 00:23:54.30\00:23:55.70 and it will be raising young people 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.30 and teaching them to do outreach. 00:23:57.30\00:23:59.10 - [John] Yes. 00:23:59.10\00:24:00.50 - And I think we're gonna get some Bible workers 00:24:00.50\00:24:01.70 out of this. 00:24:01.70\00:24:02.37 - Oh, absolutely. 00:24:02.37\00:24:03.34 Some really good ones. 00:24:03.34\00:24:04.17 - Yeah. 00:24:04.17\00:24:05.27 We do have a few Bible workers now in Manipur. 00:24:05.27\00:24:06.84 - [John] Yes. 00:24:06.84\00:24:07.68 Now what's unique 00:24:07.68\00:24:08.98 about this project is that there's already something there. 00:24:08.98\00:24:11.28 - [Natalie] Right. 00:24:11.28\00:24:12.65 - There's a state right next to Manipur called Tripura. 00:24:12.65\00:24:15.12 - Right. 00:24:15.12\00:24:15.92 - In which there is no school 00:24:15.92\00:24:18.05 - [Natalie] Mm. 00:24:18.05\00:24:19.45 - But there is a young man just like Brother Pasang. 00:24:19.45\00:24:22.79 There's a young man named Gabriel. 00:24:22.79\00:24:24.56 - Okay. 00:24:24.56\00:24:25.89 - We've been in connection with him through a good friend 00:24:25.89\00:24:28.20 of yours that you knew when you were a child. 00:24:28.20\00:24:30.67 - Yep. 00:24:30.67\00:24:31.50 - In Texas. 00:24:31.50\00:24:32.53 - One of my mom's good friends. 00:24:32.53\00:24:33.37 - [John] Yeah. 00:24:33.37\00:24:34.20 - In Nebraska. 00:24:34.20\00:24:35.57 - And so his dream is to see a boarding academy set 00:24:35.57\00:24:38.37 up in his state. 00:24:38.37\00:24:39.71 - Wow. 00:24:39.71\00:24:40.51 - [John] It'll be the first one. 00:24:40.51\00:24:41.31 And there's such poverty there. 00:24:41.31\00:24:42.68 So much, so much ignorance, you know, very low education. 00:24:42.68\00:24:47.55 And there's a lot of refugees coming in from other states. 00:24:47.55\00:24:51.95 And so his desire, so he's found land and he wants 00:24:51.95\00:24:56.12 he's ready to purchase the land 00:24:56.12\00:24:58.06 and it's just a matter of, of starting it. 00:24:58.06\00:25:00.70 But there's nothing to show. 00:25:00.70\00:25:02.53 - Right. 00:25:02.53\00:25:03.83 - [John] You know, we don't have anything to show 00:25:03.83\00:25:04.63 on video about this project. 00:25:04.63\00:25:06.53 It's just an idea. 00:25:06.53\00:25:07.74 - Right. 00:25:07.74\00:25:08.57 - Sight unseen. 00:25:08.57\00:25:09.37 It's like a step of faith. 00:25:09.37\00:25:10.54 - [Natalie] Yeah. 00:25:10.54\00:25:11.61 - You know, we've been working with him 00:25:11.61\00:25:12.67 for over a year trying to find the land. 00:25:12.67\00:25:14.71 They've got totally different measurement of 00:25:14.71\00:25:16.61 of property size. 00:25:16.61\00:25:17.85 - [Natalie] Right. 00:25:17.85\00:25:18.68 - We have acres. 00:25:18.68\00:25:19.78 In other countries they have hectares. 00:25:19.78\00:25:21.65 In, in Thailand we've learned about the 00:25:21.65\00:25:24.55 - Rye. 00:25:24.55\00:25:25.39 - [John] The rye. 00:25:25.39\00:25:26.45 Yeah, in South India they have scents 00:25:26.45\00:25:28.19 which is like a one scent is 100th of one acre. 00:25:28.19\00:25:31.16 - Right. 00:25:31.16\00:25:32.26 - [John] And then here they have a totally 00:25:32.26\00:25:33.40 different measurement that we had to figure 00:25:33.40\00:25:34.03 out what that was. 00:25:34.03\00:25:35.40 - Right. 00:25:35.40\00:25:36.43 And you can't remember the name of it. 00:25:36.43\00:25:36.83 - No. 00:25:36.83\00:25:38.43 So there's, there's a lot of confusion 00:25:38.43\00:25:40.70 and takes time to figure out what that is. 00:25:40.70\00:25:42.27 But they are ready to move forward in, in, in 00:25:42.27\00:25:44.44 on a piece of land that's gonna provide them a foothold 00:25:44.44\00:25:46.94 in that state and it's gonna provide them the basis 00:25:46.94\00:25:50.65 of the work for the future. 00:25:50.65\00:25:52.45 - [Natalie] Right. 00:25:52.45\00:25:53.48 - You know, schooling is so important. 00:25:53.48\00:25:55.42 - [Natalie] Right. 00:25:55.42\00:25:56.79 - In the establishment of, of the church in new areas. 00:25:56.79\00:25:59.25 - And one great thing with both of these young men 00:25:59.25\00:26:01.29 is they're working with the conference leadership. 00:26:01.29\00:26:03.73 - Yes. 00:26:03.73\00:26:05.09 - We're sending funds through the conference in that area 00:26:05.09\00:26:07.30 of the church. 00:26:07.30\00:26:08.60 And so it's really great that they're working with them. 00:26:08.60\00:26:11.30 They're in this, in Tripura, 00:26:11.30\00:26:13.47 they're helping him look for land. 00:26:13.47\00:26:15.20 - [John] Right. 00:26:15.20\00:26:16.47 - You know, giving advice, looking for people 00:26:16.47\00:26:17.81 that can give good advice for the area that they're in. 00:26:17.81\00:26:19.64 - [John] Correct. - All these kinds of things. 00:26:19.64\00:26:21.51 And it's wonderful. - [John] Yes. 00:26:21.51\00:26:22.88 - That these young men are helping with the church. 00:26:22.88\00:26:26.92 - [John] Yes. 00:26:26.92\00:26:28.32 - You know, working together so closely with the church. 00:26:28.32\00:26:28.85 - Absolutely. 00:26:28.85\00:26:30.09 And when we buy that property, it'll be in the name 00:26:30.09\00:26:31.99 of the church. 00:26:31.99\00:26:32.82 - [Natalie] Right. 00:26:32.82\00:26:33.92 - It won't be in the name of an individual. 00:26:33.92\00:26:34.99 - [Natalie] Right. 00:26:34.99\00:26:35.79 - It'll be held by the church. 00:26:35.79\00:26:37.16 So it's, it's something that I think needs to be done. 00:26:37.16\00:26:39.96 - [Natalie] Right. 00:26:39.96\00:26:40.80 - Yeah. 00:26:40.80\00:26:42.16 For the gospels sake and for, for the growth of the kingdom 00:26:42.16\00:26:43.87 and for the future. 00:26:43.87\00:26:45.63 You know, a lot of people say, well why are 00:26:45.63\00:26:47.67 we building schools? 00:26:47.67\00:26:48.77 We're so close to the end of time. 00:26:48.77\00:26:49.84 - But what if that school reaches 00:26:49.84\00:26:52.11 one more before the end of time? 00:26:52.11\00:26:54.48 - Mm. 00:26:54.48\00:26:55.31 - Is it worth it? 00:26:55.31\00:26:56.14 - Yeah, for one soul. 00:26:56.14\00:26:57.51 - And Lord willing, there will be a lot more than one. 00:26:57.51\00:26:59.11 - Yeah. 00:26:59.11\00:26:59.91 And the thing is that, you know 00:26:59.91\00:27:01.12 I believe Jesus is coming very soon. 00:27:01.12\00:27:03.22 We don't have much time at all 00:27:03.22\00:27:04.85 but we don't know what, when that is. 00:27:04.85\00:27:07.39 We honestly don't know when that is. 00:27:07.39\00:27:09.46 And so we have to keep building these schools, 00:27:09.46\00:27:12.36 building churches, building, you know 00:27:12.36\00:27:14.60 sponsoring Bible workers until we can't do it anymore. 00:27:14.60\00:27:18.30 - Right. 00:27:18.30\00:27:19.10 - And we can still do it. 00:27:19.10\00:27:20.30 - [Natalie] Right. 00:27:20.30\00:27:21.14 - So let's do it now. 00:27:21.14\00:27:22.24 And you know, even if it's a couple years, 00:27:22.24\00:27:24.21 there's gonna be some baptisms, 00:27:24.21\00:27:25.54 there's gonna be some hearts turned to Christ. 00:27:25.54\00:27:27.58 There's gonna be some 00:27:27.58\00:27:28.91 some kids that know about Jesus that didn't know before. 00:27:28.91\00:27:31.65 - Right. 00:27:31.65\00:27:32.48 - And that's worth it. 00:27:32.48\00:27:33.58 - The witness and the testimony, yeah. 00:27:33.58\00:27:34.78 - Yes. 00:27:34.78\00:27:35.62 Absolutely. 00:27:35.62\00:27:36.45 So that's exciting. 00:27:36.45\00:27:37.42 - Yep. 00:27:37.42\00:27:38.22 - Yeah, so pray for Tripura. 00:27:38.22\00:27:39.65 - Yeah. 00:27:39.65\00:27:40.49 And Manipur. 00:27:40.49\00:27:41.32 - And Manipur. 00:27:41.32\00:27:42.62 - If you would like to support either of these schools 00:27:42.62\00:27:45.03 in Manipur or Tripura in India, please contact us 00:27:45.03\00:27:48.80 at Jesus for Asia PO Box 1, 2, 2, 1, 00:27:48.80\00:27:52.47 Collegedale, Tennessee three seven three one five. 00:27:52.47\00:27:56.14 Call us at (423) 413-7321 00:27:56.14\00:28:00.64 or visit our website at jesusforasia.org. 00:28:00.64\00:28:04.31 May God richly bless you 00:28:04.31\00:28:05.65 until we see you next time on Jesus for Asia now. 00:28:05.65\00:28:09.12 (inspirational music begins) 00:28:09.92\00:28:13.76 (music fades) 00:28:28.47\00:28:29.84
