What did you get to do at Christmas? 00:02:55.24\00:02:56.60 - Okay, so we live, we have to drive 00:02:56.60\00:02:58.17 through this village to get to the school 00:02:58.17\00:03:00.61 and there's approximately 100 children in the village. 00:03:00.61\00:03:03.85 When we were first driving through, you know, 00:03:03.85\00:03:05.85 you get the stares like, who are these people, 00:03:05.85\00:03:07.98 these strangers coming through? 00:03:07.98\00:03:09.75 - And just for a little background, 00:03:09.75\00:03:11.79 you had to drive through because there's no buildings. 00:03:11.79\00:03:14.59 There were no buildings at this time on the property. 00:03:14.59\00:03:16.46 - Correct. 00:03:16.46\00:03:17.53 - [Natalie] No temporary buildings, nothing-- 00:03:17.53\00:03:18.53 - Nothing at all. 00:03:18.53\00:03:19.63 - So you had to drive through the village 00:03:19.63\00:03:20.73 because you had to live elsewhere. 00:03:20.73\00:03:22.36 - Right. - Okay. 00:03:22.36\00:03:23.50 - So we would drive through the village, 00:03:23.50\00:03:24.83 'cause actually at the time, 00:03:24.83\00:03:26.74 I was doing language study online 00:03:26.74\00:03:28.37 and that's was where I had the best signal. 00:03:28.37\00:03:30.94 - Oh, on the property. 00:03:30.94\00:03:32.34 - [Guest Natalie] On the property. 00:03:32.34\00:03:33.44 - Even though there were no buildings. 00:03:33.44\00:03:34.24 - Even though there were... 00:03:34.24\00:03:35.38 So my husband built a little shed with tarp 00:03:35.38\00:03:39.08 for me to sit under. 00:03:39.08\00:03:40.68 And that's where I had school every day. 00:03:40.68\00:03:42.42 And so we had to drive through the village. 00:03:42.42\00:03:44.45 - Okay. 00:03:44.45\00:03:45.25 - Around Christmas. I'm like, 00:03:45.25\00:03:46.35 I would like to do something for them. 00:03:46.35\00:03:49.09 And I was thinking what I could do, 00:03:49.09\00:03:50.89 what we could do for them. 00:03:50.89\00:03:52.69 And at the moment, I was like, 00:03:52.69\00:03:54.10 "Oh, we could give them blanket," 00:03:54.10\00:03:55.43 because at the time it was getting cold, 00:03:55.43\00:03:58.10 and 68 degrees is cold. 00:03:58.10\00:04:00.17 (Guest Natalie chuckling) 00:04:00.17\00:04:01.27 And so-- - Yeah, considering that 00:04:01.27\00:04:02.80 most normal temperature's over 90. 00:04:02.80\00:04:05.04 - Exactly, and so that's a huge drop. 00:04:05.04\00:04:07.91 And so we worked and we got them blankets, 00:04:07.91\00:04:10.58 and we gave it to them. 00:04:10.58\00:04:11.65 And the older people were there also. 00:04:11.65\00:04:15.92 And they asked if they could have blankets. 00:04:15.92\00:04:18.15 And I gave them blankets, what was left. 00:04:18.15\00:04:20.69 And since then the relationship has grown astronomically. 00:04:20.69\00:04:24.59 Even the older people who, it's not norm to say hello 00:04:24.59\00:04:27.93 or wave, this is completely out the custom, you know? 00:04:27.93\00:04:30.90 They say hello, they smile. 00:04:30.90\00:04:33.20 - Oh nice. - And it's just like, 00:04:33.20\00:04:34.44 it's just an amazing experience. 00:04:34.44\00:04:36.10 - Nice. 00:04:36.10\00:04:37.21 Well we have a few pictures from this. 00:04:37.21\00:04:38.97 So why don't you tell us what's happening in these pictures? 00:04:38.97\00:04:41.61 - [Guest Natalie] This is where we were 00:04:41.61\00:04:42.41 passing out the blankets. 00:04:42.41\00:04:44.08 And that man standing there in the background, 00:04:44.08\00:04:46.11 he's the village chief. 00:04:46.11\00:04:47.85 So anything that's your needs you, we need to do, 00:04:47.85\00:04:50.69 we need to go to him for permission to do a lot of stuff. 00:04:50.69\00:04:54.12 And so it's really important to have that relationship 00:04:54.12\00:04:57.16 with him and have him support in whatever we're doing. 00:04:57.16\00:05:00.43 - Right, right. 00:05:00.43\00:05:02.20 Okay. 00:05:02.20\00:05:03.53 - [Guest Natalie] And that's more children getting blankets. 00:05:03.53\00:05:05.07 They were so happy. 00:05:05.07\00:05:06.23 They were so, so happy. 00:05:06.23\00:05:08.70 - [Natalie] Oh, cuties. 00:05:08.70\00:05:10.41 - I've never done anything like this before. 00:05:10.41\00:05:12.34 And so I was blessed and they were blessed. 00:05:12.34\00:05:16.18 - [Natalie] Wow, praise the Lord. 00:05:16.18\00:05:17.11 - Absolutely. 00:05:17.11\00:05:18.38 - So you shared this privilege on Facebook I believe? 00:05:18.38\00:05:20.52 - Yes, yes. 00:05:20.52\00:05:21.32 - And someone contacted you 00:05:21.32\00:05:24.09 and wanted to do a similar project. 00:05:24.09\00:05:26.52 - Correct. - And what was that? 00:05:26.52\00:05:28.12 - So a friend of mine from New York called me and she said, 00:05:28.12\00:05:31.33 "Hey, would you mind if we do a slipper drive?" 00:05:31.33\00:05:34.83 And I never thought of that. 00:05:34.83\00:05:35.86 I'm like, "Wow, this would be an awesome idea 00:05:35.86\00:05:39.30 "and an awesome experience." 00:05:39.30\00:05:40.87 And so she said, "I'm gonna get the youth 00:05:40.87\00:05:42.90 "from Brooklyn Staten Island Pathfinder 00:05:42.90\00:05:45.91 "and the Northeastern Youth Federation, 00:05:45.91\00:05:48.51 "get them together to make donations to buy slippers." 00:05:48.51\00:05:52.21 And they wanted it done for Global Youth Day 00:05:52.21\00:05:55.08 and so that's what we did. 00:05:55.08\00:05:56.85 It wasn't as easy as the blankets. 00:05:57.95\00:05:59.85 (Guest Natalie chuckling) 00:05:59.85\00:06:01.22 - Yeah, 'cause the blankets are one size fits all. 00:06:01.22\00:06:02.59 - One side fits all. 00:06:02.59\00:06:03.93 And so the first go round half of the shoes were too big. 00:06:03.93\00:06:06.80 Literally, half of them were too big. 00:06:06.80\00:06:08.96 And so what we did was we gave them to the adults, 00:06:08.96\00:06:11.30 which is what you see here. 00:06:11.30\00:06:13.50 It was easier to give it away, than to return it 00:06:13.50\00:06:16.74 and get new shoes because we got it 00:06:16.74\00:06:18.81 from so many different stores 00:06:18.81\00:06:20.28 and remembering where you get what, 00:06:20.28\00:06:22.34 and it was just easier. 00:06:22.34\00:06:24.88 And so we went out and we bought. 00:06:24.88\00:06:27.28 The adults were really happy 00:06:27.28\00:06:28.38 'cause that was a bonus for them. 00:06:28.38\00:06:30.22 That's some of the shoes that we gave to the children. 00:06:31.52\00:06:33.25 - [Natalie] Okay, nice. 00:06:33.25\00:06:34.66 - [Guest Natalie] Yes. 00:06:34.66\00:06:36.02 - That was done before you came to America, which was-- 00:06:36.02\00:06:38.06 - [Guest Natalie] Yeah, right before. 00:06:38.06\00:06:39.09 - Which was right before Global Youth Day. 00:06:39.09\00:06:41.03 - Right. - So it was able 00:06:41.03\00:06:42.60 to be completed. 00:06:42.60\00:06:43.67 - Yes. - I remember the donations 00:06:43.67\00:06:45.30 coming in, people calling and saying they wanted 00:06:45.30\00:06:47.27 to give for this and different Pathfinder clubs 00:06:47.27\00:06:49.97 from all over, especially New York, 00:06:49.97\00:06:52.01 but different Pathfinder clubs. 00:06:52.01\00:06:53.91 It was really neat for the young people to get involved. 00:06:53.91\00:06:55.68 - I thought it was really cool, absolutely. 00:06:55.68\00:06:57.61 - [Natalie] Yeah. - Absolutely. 00:06:57.61\00:06:58.98 - So I know she has a burden to continue doing projects 00:06:58.98\00:07:02.28 like this for other nearby villages. 00:07:02.28\00:07:04.12 - Absolutely. 00:07:04.12\00:07:05.22 - Let's talk a little bit about the school now 00:07:05.22\00:07:07.72 and what's going on with this project. 00:07:07.72\00:07:10.76 There's been some developments both for the teachers, 00:07:10.76\00:07:14.50 as well as for the property. 00:07:14.50\00:07:15.80 Let's start with the teachers. 00:07:15.80\00:07:17.23 - Here's the picture of our students. 00:07:17.23\00:07:19.10 And what happened was they were, 00:07:19.10\00:07:21.80 as they were in college last year, 00:07:21.80\00:07:24.61 the majority of them started having classes on Sabbath. 00:07:24.61\00:07:28.34 And so they had to choose between God and school. 00:07:28.34\00:07:33.11 And they were also learning some things 00:07:33.11\00:07:34.95 that was contrary to our beliefs. 00:07:34.95\00:07:38.05 And so they were asking question like, 00:07:38.05\00:07:39.99 "What is the point of learning this 00:07:39.99\00:07:42.79 "if we're not gonna be teaching it?" 00:07:42.79\00:07:44.76 - Right, right. 00:07:44.76\00:07:45.83 Things like evolution. 00:07:45.83\00:07:46.90 - Right, and Buddhism. 00:07:46.90\00:07:49.50 And those were really hard questions. 00:07:49.50\00:07:52.13 - Yeah. 00:07:52.13\00:07:53.07 - We prayed. 00:07:53.07\00:07:54.67 We prayed a lot asking God for direction, what to do. 00:07:54.67\00:07:59.07 He led us to look into different colleges 00:07:59.07\00:08:02.58 that they could go to and we chose Mountain View College 00:08:02.58\00:08:05.91 in the Philippines. 00:08:05.91\00:08:07.58 And we chose that one because a lot of the people 00:08:07.58\00:08:11.02 that I've met that have attended there, they have come back 00:08:11.02\00:08:15.12 with a missionary spirit wanting to serve. 00:08:15.12\00:08:19.56 - Okay. 00:08:19.56\00:08:20.66 - And I feel like it's important to equip them 00:08:20.66\00:08:23.77 to serve the people of Cambodia. 00:08:23.77\00:08:25.87 It's easier for them to serve than for me. 00:08:25.87\00:08:29.04 - Yeah, that's true. 00:08:29.04\00:08:30.11 They don't have the language issues. 00:08:30.11\00:08:31.44 - They don't have the language, they don't have the culture. 00:08:31.44\00:08:33.51 - Right. - So it's easier for them 00:08:33.51\00:08:35.61 to go far and do more than we are able to do. 00:08:35.61\00:08:39.85 - Right and that's what we really want to do. 00:08:39.85\00:08:42.35 We wanna enable the locals to help their own people. 00:08:42.35\00:08:45.49 - Absolutely, equipping them. 00:08:45.49\00:08:47.06 In order for them to go to to the Philippines, 00:08:47.06\00:08:49.46 they have to be able to speak English. 00:08:49.46\00:08:51.46 - Yeah, and not just like hello. 00:08:51.46\00:08:53.80 - [Guest Natalie] No, they have to-- 00:08:53.80\00:08:54.56 - They have to be able to study. 00:08:54.56\00:08:55.86 - Absolutely, 'cause the entire program is in English. 00:08:55.86\00:08:59.07 And so we decided to move them. 00:08:59.07\00:09:02.87 They were living in Siem Reap, three hours away. 00:09:02.87\00:09:05.61 And so it was really hard to really work with them 00:09:05.61\00:09:08.71 like I wanted to because of the distance. 00:09:08.71\00:09:11.31 - Right, and paying rent. 00:09:11.31\00:09:14.18 Different places. 00:09:14.18\00:09:15.48 And travel back and forth for them or for you, 00:09:15.48\00:09:17.82 whichever had to happen. 00:09:17.82\00:09:18.95 - We decided to move them from Siem Reap 00:09:18.95\00:09:21.99 to Battambang on the property. 00:09:21.99\00:09:23.89 And so we're like, "How are we gonna do this?" 00:09:23.89\00:09:27.13 And that's when I saw a missionary had bamboo huts. 00:09:27.13\00:09:31.03 And I was like, "That would be a really good idea." 00:09:31.03\00:09:33.80 I mean, that's manageable, you know? 00:09:33.80\00:09:35.87 - Right. - And so I was like, 00:09:35.87\00:09:37.04 "Oh, what if we do bamboo huts?" 00:09:37.04\00:09:38.54 So my husband was like, "Yeah, let's do that." 00:09:38.54\00:09:41.28 And then we went-- - It's a way to get started. 00:09:41.28\00:09:43.14 - It's a way to get started and to move the students 00:09:43.14\00:09:45.38 onto the property. 00:09:45.38\00:09:46.18 And so we started building. 00:09:46.18\00:09:47.52 - Awesome, so let's look at, we have a little video, 00:09:47.52\00:09:50.82 drone footage of the property. 00:09:50.82\00:09:52.55 So let's go ahead and we'll watch that now. 00:09:52.55\00:09:54.39 And maybe you can tell us, 00:09:54.39\00:09:55.52 as we're watching, what we're seeing. 00:09:55.52\00:09:56.89 - Those three buildings to the right. Those are houses. 00:09:56.89\00:10:00.10 The two side-by-side, that's where the girls live. 00:10:00.10\00:10:02.90 And the one on the other side, the boys live there. 00:10:02.90\00:10:06.27 And that big building that's closest to us, 00:10:06.27\00:10:08.44 that's our gazebo, and that's where we meet 00:10:08.44\00:10:10.67 for English learning, for church, and other activities. 00:10:10.67\00:10:15.74 That brick building in the back, that's the bathrooms. 00:10:17.11\00:10:20.02 - [Natalie] And the kitchen was behind the kids'-- 00:10:20.02\00:10:21.82 - [Guest Natalie] The kitchen is behind the gazebo 00:10:21.82\00:10:23.89 and there's staff housing next to the kitchen. 00:10:23.89\00:10:27.26 - It's exciting to see at least some buildings 00:10:27.26\00:10:29.92 on the property. 00:10:29.92\00:10:31.19 I know it's not everything that's needed yet, 00:10:31.19\00:10:32.79 but it's a start. 00:10:32.79\00:10:34.46 - Absolutely. 00:10:34.46\00:10:35.96 - And it's really awesome to see the project moving forward. 00:10:35.96\00:10:39.40 - Yes. 00:10:39.40\00:10:40.64 - And yet we know that there are needs. 00:10:40.64\00:10:42.90 And so we wanna address those 00:10:42.90\00:10:44.54 so that our viewers can join us in praying for them. 00:10:44.54\00:10:47.11 What is the cost of sending these students 00:10:48.31\00:10:50.38 to the Philippines for school? 00:10:50.38\00:10:52.18 - We're looking at an average of $7,000 per person 00:10:52.18\00:10:55.45 to go to first year. 00:10:55.45\00:10:57.09 And that include their tuition, flight, visa processing, 00:10:57.09\00:11:01.96 passport, all the things they need to get them there. 00:11:01.96\00:11:05.59 - And their tuition and room board. 00:11:05.59\00:11:06.39 - And their tuition, right. 00:11:06.39\00:11:07.50 And the tuition, room, board, food, 00:11:07.50\00:11:09.36 all of that is included in that $7,000. 00:11:09.36\00:11:13.10 - Okay. 00:11:13.10\00:11:14.34 - And we're looking at approximately 13 to 15 students 00:11:14.34\00:11:16.87 that would like to send, we would like to send. 00:11:16.87\00:11:19.81 - Wow. 00:11:19.81\00:11:21.18 - That much because we're doing from K through 12. 00:11:21.18\00:11:23.78 - Okay. - And so you're looking 00:11:23.78\00:11:25.21 at 13 teachers there. 00:11:25.21\00:11:26.75 And I figured, you know, it would be nice to have a nurse 00:11:26.75\00:11:30.22 to not only help the school 00:11:30.22\00:11:31.52 but meet the needs of the community, 00:11:31.52\00:11:33.42 and as the way of introducing the health message, 00:11:34.66\00:11:36.52 helping them to have a better lifestyle. 00:11:36.52\00:11:39.33 And also having somebody that the last person would be 00:11:40.63\00:11:44.10 administrative, accounting, that knows how 00:11:44.10\00:11:47.20 to run the business aspect of the school. 00:11:47.20\00:11:50.41 - I know our original plan was 00:11:50.41\00:11:52.71 that it was gonna be a high school. 00:11:52.71\00:11:54.61 Can you explain why you want the younger grades? 00:11:54.61\00:11:56.95 - The main reason for the younger grades is 00:11:56.95\00:11:58.78 that we have so many children in the village. 00:11:58.78\00:12:02.28 And there is a school in the village. 00:12:02.28\00:12:05.39 They have three teachers for six grades. 00:12:05.39\00:12:09.42 - Six grades, wow. 00:12:09.42\00:12:10.46 - The government made a decision that the school, 00:12:14.00\00:12:17.00 they have too much staff, they need to cut back one. 00:12:17.00\00:12:20.40 So they will only have two teachers 00:12:20.40\00:12:22.70 to teach all those children. 00:12:22.70\00:12:24.81 And so some of them-- - And you told me there's 00:12:24.81\00:12:26.47 about 100 children in the village? 00:12:26.47\00:12:27.61 - Yes, there's about 100 children in the village. 00:12:27.61\00:12:29.31 And so, you know,-- 00:12:29.31\00:12:30.65 - I can't imagine having a classroom with 50 kids in it. 00:12:30.65\00:12:33.62 And that would be two or three different grades, 00:12:33.62\00:12:35.48 four different grades? 00:12:35.48\00:12:36.28 - [Guest Natalie] Absolutely. 00:12:36.28\00:12:37.02 - Wow. - Absolutely. 00:12:37.02\00:12:38.72 And multi teaching. 00:12:38.72\00:12:40.49 One room classroom. 00:12:40.49\00:12:41.79 You know, in our Adventist system we do have more than one 00:12:41.79\00:12:43.86 in a classroom, but it's not big. 00:12:43.86\00:12:45.93 - Right. 00:12:45.93\00:12:47.00 Usually the ratio of teachers to students is 00:12:47.00\00:12:50.07 a lot more reasonable than 50 to one. 00:12:50.07\00:12:52.03 - Absolutely, with multiple grades. 00:12:52.03\00:12:54.17 And so my heart was, you know like, 00:12:54.17\00:12:56.71 you know we have to help 'em. 00:12:56.71\00:12:58.77 - Yeah. - And I feel like children 00:12:58.77\00:13:00.38 are more receptive to the gospel. 00:13:00.38\00:13:02.28 It's easier to teach them. 00:13:03.45\00:13:05.65 And so right before we left to come here, 00:13:05.65\00:13:08.22 they asked when am I gonna start teaching them English. 00:13:08.22\00:13:11.59 And so when I go back, I'm gonna work something out, 00:13:12.99\00:13:16.12 one hour on a Sunday to teach them. 00:13:16.12\00:13:19.39 And I get to share Jesus with them. 00:13:19.39\00:13:21.40 I'm so excited to see how that develops. 00:13:21.40\00:13:24.57 - That's awesome. 00:13:24.57\00:13:25.70 Okay, so that's a lot of money then. 00:13:25.70\00:13:27.47 - [Guest Natalie] Yes, it's a lot. 00:13:27.47\00:13:28.57 - 13 To 15 at 7,000 apiece. 00:13:28.57\00:13:30.74 - Yes. - Wow. 00:13:30.74\00:13:31.64 But God is big, right? 00:13:31.64\00:13:33.21 - He is, this is His project. 00:13:33.21\00:13:34.91 You know, we haven't seen the first dime 00:13:34.91\00:13:36.85 and we're just moving on faith knowing 00:13:36.85\00:13:39.18 that if He brought us this far, 00:13:39.18\00:13:41.25 He'll bring us the rest of the way. 00:13:41.25\00:13:43.08 - Right, and He's guided in looking at which schools 00:13:43.08\00:13:46.45 so that the young people should go to. 00:13:46.45\00:13:47.96 - [Guest Natalie] Absolutely. 00:13:47.96\00:13:48.82 - So well, we'll see what He does 00:13:48.82\00:13:51.56 and we're so excited to see what He does. 00:13:51.56\00:13:53.40 And how He does it. 00:13:53.40\00:13:54.56 - Absolutely. 00:13:54.56\00:13:55.80 - Okay, and on the property itself needs. 00:13:55.80\00:13:58.37 - Yes. - I know you mentioned 00:13:58.37\00:13:59.63 to me about the need for a fence. 00:13:59.63\00:14:02.74 Can you explain that to us? 00:14:02.74\00:14:04.41 - The need for fencing is great 00:14:04.41\00:14:06.44 because a couple times in the middle of the night, 00:14:06.44\00:14:10.15 like two, three o'clock in the morning, people come 00:14:10.15\00:14:12.75 on the property hunting for animals, cutting down trees, 00:14:12.75\00:14:17.82 walking around the houses and it's kind of intimidating, 00:14:19.15\00:14:22.82 and, you know, they're afraid. 00:14:22.82\00:14:24.39 And so I feel like fencing would provide 00:14:25.46\00:14:28.60 some form of security. 00:14:28.60\00:14:30.27 And in addition to that, we have cows 00:14:30.27\00:14:32.13 that come on the property a lot. 00:14:32.13\00:14:34.00 People just let their calls wander 00:14:34.00\00:14:35.77 and they've been doing it for years. 00:14:35.77\00:14:38.24 And so even though we're living there, 00:14:38.24\00:14:39.84 they still have the cows coming there. 00:14:39.84\00:14:41.84 And we wanna do a garden. 00:14:41.84\00:14:44.15 And recently, they started a garden 00:14:44.15\00:14:46.31 and the cows came 'cause no one was there 00:14:46.31\00:14:49.48 and ate all the corn. 00:14:49.48\00:14:51.05 - That's so sad. 00:14:51.05\00:14:52.09 - It is. 00:14:52.09\00:14:53.22 - Oh, that's so sad. 00:14:53.22\00:14:54.86 What is an estimate for what the fencing will cost? 00:14:54.86\00:14:57.46 Do you have any idea? 00:14:57.46\00:14:58.73 - We're looking at approximately 30,000. 00:14:58.73\00:15:00.46 We have 30 acres that need to be fenced. 00:15:00.46\00:15:04.17 And so it's a lot of land. 00:15:04.17\00:15:05.63 - So it would be fenced pretty much all the way 00:15:05.63\00:15:07.50 around, within like one entrance 00:15:07.50\00:15:09.44 on either end of the property or something? 00:15:09.44\00:15:10.64 - Correct. 00:15:10.64\00:15:11.74 - [Natalie] Okay. - Correct, yes. 00:15:11.74\00:15:12.87 - Well, we'll see how God answers that one. 00:15:12.87\00:15:14.64 - Absolutely, absolutely. 00:15:14.64\00:15:16.71 - And then there's a need because of the electricity. 00:15:16.71\00:15:19.35 - We have electricity but we have like only 20 amps. 00:15:19.35\00:15:24.19 And for those who know electrical, 00:15:24.19\00:15:25.92 that's not a lot of amp to meet the needs of everyone. 00:15:25.92\00:15:29.66 - Right. 00:15:29.66\00:15:30.79 - In order to get good electricity, 00:15:30.79\00:15:33.19 we have to get it from the main road 00:15:33.19\00:15:35.00 and we're about two kilometers, I think 1.2 miles, 00:15:35.00\00:15:38.23 something like that from the main road to get it from there 00:15:38.23\00:15:42.10 to where we need it to be. 00:15:42.10\00:15:43.97 Before COVID hit, when we priced it, it was like 30,000. 00:15:43.97\00:15:47.88 - You dug a well, right? 00:15:47.88\00:15:49.08 We have water there. 00:15:49.08\00:15:50.31 - Absolutely, and that's just so exciting. 00:15:50.31\00:15:53.31 - Yeah, it's just that there's a power issue. 00:15:53.31\00:15:56.02 - There's a power issue there. 00:15:56.02\00:15:58.15 Just one quick story. 00:15:58.15\00:15:59.19 The the well was a blessing 'cause in 2020 00:15:59.19\00:16:01.42 when we were there, they told us that the land is 00:16:01.42\00:16:03.96 so dry, you know, there's nowhere you're gonna have water. 00:16:03.96\00:16:07.36 The ground is so hard. 00:16:07.36\00:16:09.20 To get the water from the village, it's a long way. 00:16:09.20\00:16:11.73 - It's a long way. 00:16:11.73\00:16:12.80 - It's a long way, and getting permission 00:16:12.80\00:16:14.34 and, you know, all that kind of stuff. 00:16:14.34\00:16:16.30 And so one of our workers said, 00:16:16.30\00:16:19.07 "Hey, I know somebody who digs well 00:16:19.07\00:16:22.04 "and he dug the neighbor's well." 00:16:22.04\00:16:23.14 I was like, "Okay, bring him here." 00:16:23.14\00:16:25.21 And so he came and he said, 00:16:25.21\00:16:27.58 "Oh yes, there's a riverbed running underneath, 00:16:27.58\00:16:30.42 "on this side of the property that border is the neighbor. 00:16:31.79\00:16:34.62 "I guarantee you water for two years 00:16:34.62\00:16:36.49 "or I'll return your money." 00:16:36.49\00:16:37.96 - [Natalie] Wow. - And so I was like, okay. 00:16:37.96\00:16:39.83 So we hit water at 60 feet. 00:16:39.83\00:16:41.60 - 60 Feet? 00:16:41.60\00:16:42.66 - [Guest Natalie] 60 Feet. - Wow. 00:16:42.66\00:16:44.00 - And he said, "I guarantee that 00:16:44.00\00:16:45.30 "that water will be running 24-7 and not dry up." 00:16:45.30\00:16:49.04 - Wow. - And so I was really excited. 00:16:49.04\00:16:50.61 I was so excited, I was just praising God. 00:16:50.61\00:16:53.64 'Cause you went from this hopeless situation 00:16:53.64\00:16:56.08 to actually have water. 00:16:56.08\00:16:57.65 Now the thing with where the water is 00:16:57.65\00:16:59.45 versus where we live is approximately five acres. 00:16:59.45\00:17:02.25 - Okay. 00:17:02.25\00:17:03.62 - So we have to, you know, get equipment to trench it, 00:17:03.62\00:17:06.99 buy the pipes, get a pump, build some form of tank 00:17:06.99\00:17:12.06 to hold the water and then feed it across 00:17:13.16\00:17:16.83 to everything, to everyone else, and so yeah. 00:17:16.83\00:17:20.00 - There's some more steps to go. 00:17:20.00\00:17:21.14 - [Guest Natalie] More steps to go. 00:17:21.14\00:17:23.00 - God has a way to go. 00:17:23.00\00:17:24.31 - He really does, and you know, I like these opportunities 00:17:24.31\00:17:27.34 'cause you really get to see God work. 00:17:27.34\00:17:29.51 And it's not like Natalie did this or Billy did this. 00:17:29.51\00:17:32.75 No, this was God that did this 00:17:32.75\00:17:34.18 because He really made a way out of no way. 00:17:34.18\00:17:37.29 - It's such a privilege to see how He works. 00:17:37.29\00:17:40.62 - Absolutely, and be a part of it. 00:17:40.62\00:17:42.12 - Right. 00:17:42.12\00:17:43.43 There was another need that you had mentioned 00:17:43.43\00:17:45.93 and that is for the road. 00:17:45.93\00:17:47.86 Can you explain that need? 00:17:47.86\00:17:49.43 - Because of all the work that we did 00:17:49.43\00:17:52.20 on clearing the land, a lot of it is dug up and it's clay. 00:17:52.20\00:17:57.27 - Ooh. - And so when it rains, 00:17:58.11\00:17:59.17 the water just pools and settles. 00:17:59.17\00:18:02.51 And so we actually need a road infrastructure 00:18:02.51\00:18:05.58 to be able to drive in and, or even walk around. 00:18:05.58\00:18:10.05 Because recently it rained and there was just 00:18:10.05\00:18:13.12 so much water just sitting there in a short amount of time. 00:18:13.12\00:18:17.96 And, you know, you get stuck. 00:18:17.96\00:18:20.13 - [Natalie] Ugh. 00:18:20.13\00:18:21.63 Yeah, okay. 00:18:21.63\00:18:23.10 Do you have any idea what that would cost? 00:18:23.10\00:18:25.10 - No, we haven't looked into it, to be totally honest. 00:18:25.10\00:18:27.90 - Okay. 00:18:27.90\00:18:29.04 - But it's something that's on the radar 00:18:29.04\00:18:31.57 to be looking into and we just had, 00:18:31.57\00:18:33.84 you know, trying to get them there, 00:18:33.84\00:18:35.21 teach them English 'cause we're crunched for time. 00:18:35.21\00:18:38.91 And trying to get them to the Philippines. 00:18:38.91\00:18:41.02 - Yeah, well the Lord will provide. 00:18:41.02\00:18:42.68 - [Guest Natalie] He will, He will. 00:18:42.68\00:18:44.32 - Now I know that there's been spiritual journey 00:18:44.32\00:18:47.39 along this way a lot. 00:18:47.39\00:18:49.72 There have been challenges, spiritually and emotionally. 00:18:49.72\00:18:52.79 - Yes. - I know that in the process 00:18:52.79\00:18:54.50 of this, there's something that the Lord has heavily lain 00:18:54.50\00:18:56.93 upon your heart recently. 00:18:56.93\00:18:58.77 Would you be willing to share that with us? 00:18:58.77\00:19:00.57 - Absolutely, I would love to. 00:19:00.57\00:19:02.30 The one passage that God has really brought 00:19:02.30\00:19:04.41 to my heart is Psalms 34:19, 00:19:04.41\00:19:08.08 "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, 00:19:08.08\00:19:10.61 but the Lord will deliver him out of them all." 00:19:10.61\00:19:14.12 And when I looked at that verse, I'm like, 00:19:14.12\00:19:15.78 "Wow, God is promising that we will have affliction." 00:19:15.78\00:19:20.12 It's a guarantee. 00:19:20.12\00:19:21.56 - Wow. 00:19:22.36\00:19:23.22 - And He's right. 00:19:23.22\00:19:25.33 'Cause once we made that decision to go to Cambodia, 00:19:25.33\00:19:27.83 everything-- - Everything 00:19:27.83\00:19:29.20 that could wrong did go wrong. - Absolutely, but then He says 00:19:29.20\00:19:32.10 He will deliver us out of them all. 00:19:32.10\00:19:34.17 He promises that and have seen Him delivered 00:19:34.17\00:19:38.54 over and over again. 00:19:38.54\00:19:39.81 - Wow, praise the Lord. 00:19:39.81\00:19:40.88 - And so as I go through this journey 00:19:40.88\00:19:43.28 of these different things out, He started opening my eyes 00:19:43.28\00:19:46.31 more to the need of those around us. 00:19:46.31\00:19:50.45 And you know, living in Cambodia, there's 16 million 00:19:50.45\00:19:54.89 people. There's 0.01% Adventist, 0.1% Christian. 00:19:54.89\00:19:59.96 - Wow. 00:20:00.90\00:20:01.66 - And I started thinking about, 00:20:01.66\00:20:03.80 are we being our brothers' keeper? 00:20:03.80\00:20:06.17 There's souls that are perishing who's never heard of Jesus. 00:20:06.17\00:20:10.17 We were driving down the street and there were, 00:20:10.17\00:20:13.44 there was an accident and there were two men laying 00:20:13.44\00:20:16.08 in the middle of the road. 00:20:16.08\00:20:17.15 And people were just taking pictures of them. 00:20:17.15\00:20:19.71 And you know, I was just overwhelmed with grief 00:20:19.71\00:20:22.25 because I'm looking at them and saying 00:20:22.25\00:20:24.82 they've never heard of Jesus. 00:20:24.82\00:20:28.06 And all those people around them have never heard either. 00:20:28.06\00:20:32.76 And I can't even begin to imagine 00:20:32.76\00:20:34.83 how God feels in all of this, that He has children perishing 00:20:34.83\00:20:39.80 in this world who's never heard of Him. 00:20:41.04\00:20:44.37 And so many of us sit here know about Him, 00:20:45.57\00:20:47.78 but we don't share. 00:20:47.78\00:20:49.08 Sister White says that once we get baptized, 00:20:49.08\00:20:51.78 once we accept Jesus, we automatically become 00:20:51.78\00:20:56.69 missionaries. Automatic. 00:20:56.69\00:20:58.12 And so yes, everyone is not called 00:20:58.12\00:21:00.32 to the foreign mission field, 00:21:00.32\00:21:02.76 but everyone is called to do something. 00:21:02.76\00:21:04.89 That's been the burden on my heart, 00:21:05.96\00:21:08.16 that we truly aren't being our brothers' keeper. 00:21:08.16\00:21:12.63 'Cause if we were, we wouldn't be so comfortable. 00:21:12.63\00:21:15.57 - Wow. - We wouldn't be fighting 00:21:15.57\00:21:16.71 with each other, arguing who does what, you know, 00:21:16.71\00:21:19.44 who'll bring what for potluck 00:21:19.44\00:21:21.21 or who didn't bring something for potluck. 00:21:21.21\00:21:22.81 You know what I mean? 00:21:22.81\00:21:23.65 - Yeah. 00:21:23.65\00:21:24.98 - But would be thinking of those souls that are perishing 00:21:24.98\00:21:27.28 and in need of Jesus. 00:21:27.28\00:21:28.58 - Wow and it's heavy thinking 00:21:28.58\00:21:29.72 about where that phrase came from in the Bible. 00:21:29.72\00:21:31.65 - Yes, yes. 00:21:31.65\00:21:32.72 - You know, that was Kane's attitude. 00:21:32.72\00:21:34.19 - [Guest Natalie] Absolutely. 00:21:34.19\00:21:34.99 - It was an Abel's attitude. 00:21:34.99\00:21:36.42 - [Guest Natalie] It sure wasn't. 00:21:36.42\00:21:37.26 - And it wasn't, oh man. 00:21:37.26\00:21:38.93 - [Guest Natalie] Yeah. 00:21:38.93\00:21:40.30 - And Kane was the one that knew he was a hunted man. 00:21:40.30\00:21:43.03 - Yes. 00:21:43.03\00:21:44.30 - We need to think about these things. 00:21:44.30\00:21:46.03 - Yes, 'cause you know, there's this code 00:21:46.03\00:21:48.44 in First Testimony, the chapter's entitled 00:21:48.44\00:21:50.71 "Am I My Brother's Keeper?" 00:21:50.71\00:21:52.44 And I would recommend everyone reading it 00:21:52.44\00:21:54.68 'cause there's one part in there, she said, 00:21:54.68\00:21:56.21 "If we are not being or brothers' keeper, 00:21:56.21\00:21:59.01 "we are not worthy of eternal life," 00:21:59.01\00:22:02.22 because Jesus gave up so much for us. 00:22:02.22\00:22:06.69 - And we wanna be like Him. 00:22:06.69\00:22:07.92 You know? 00:22:07.92\00:22:08.72 We say we wanna be like Him. 00:22:08.72\00:22:09.82 - Absolutely. 00:22:09.82\00:22:11.06 - We were with a pastor the other day, 00:22:11.06\00:22:13.46 he was sharing with us the simple gospel. 00:22:13.46\00:22:15.80 - [Guest Natalie] Absolutely. 00:22:15.80\00:22:16.87 - Christ in you, that's the simple-- 00:22:16.87\00:22:18.00 - The Hope of Glory, yes. 00:22:18.00\00:22:19.03 - Gospel. - Yes. 00:22:19.03\00:22:20.37 - And it's like if we don't, if we have Christ in us, 00:22:20.37\00:22:24.01 then we have His attitudes. 00:22:24.01\00:22:26.04 - [Guest Natalie] Absolutely. - We have His love 00:22:26.04\00:22:27.14 for the lost that came to to save me. 00:22:27.14\00:22:30.28 - Absolutely. 00:22:30.28\00:22:31.25 - [Natalie] To save you. - Absolutely. 00:22:31.25\00:22:33.05 - And left heaven, of all places. 00:22:33.05\00:22:35.35 - Exactly. 00:22:35.35\00:22:36.92 - Heaven's better than the US, by the way. 00:22:36.92\00:22:38.69 - Absolutely. 00:22:38.69\00:22:40.02 You know, when I went to Cambodia for the first time 00:22:40.02\00:22:42.49 and you know, you just feel this oppression 00:22:42.49\00:22:44.89 around you, this hopelessness. 00:22:44.89\00:22:47.36 I got like, a microscopic glimpse 00:22:47.36\00:22:51.10 into what Christ must have felt like 00:22:51.10\00:22:53.34 coming to this dark world. 00:22:53.34\00:22:55.50 And it just really blew my mind. 00:22:55.50\00:22:56.81 Like, here I am complaining in my heart, 00:22:56.81\00:22:59.44 "Oh the smell, the taste, the this, the that, 00:22:59.44\00:23:02.74 "the heat." - The heat? 00:23:02.74\00:23:04.11 - The heat. But He gave all that up and I'm like, 00:23:04.11\00:23:06.35 "Lord, forgive me for complaining." 00:23:06.35\00:23:08.32 You know, forgive me 'cause You gave up so much more 00:23:09.65\00:23:13.12 and You didn't do anything wrong. 00:23:13.12\00:23:14.76 - What are we willing to give up for the sake of the lost? 00:23:14.76\00:23:18.49 We were talking about that the other day. 00:23:18.49\00:23:20.36 You know, if you pray, are you willing 00:23:20.36\00:23:22.76 to pray for your enemy until you're willing 00:23:22.76\00:23:25.20 to give your life for theirs? 00:23:25.20\00:23:27.17 - Absolutely. 00:23:27.17\00:23:28.27 - And that's something that most of us have 00:23:28.27\00:23:31.67 no clue what kind of love that is. 00:23:32.77\00:23:35.64 What kind of forgiveness and mercy 00:23:35.64\00:23:37.91 and everything is involved in sacrifice 00:23:37.91\00:23:41.35 is involved in that kind of love. 00:23:41.35\00:23:43.02 - Absolutely, and the other thing I was thinking 00:23:43.02\00:23:45.05 about is oftentimes, you know, we're like, 00:23:45.05\00:23:47.12 "Well, I'm not qualified. 00:23:47.12\00:23:49.59 "I don't have a gift, I don't have this." 00:23:49.59\00:23:52.73 But I'm like, "Where do you find that in the Bible 00:23:54.10\00:23:55.63 "That you need to have a gift in order to do the work?" 00:23:55.63\00:23:59.57 'Cause when you go to Matthew 28, He says, "Go." 00:23:59.57\00:24:02.10 - Right. 00:24:02.10\00:24:03.51 - He didn't say, if you're a teacher, if you're a lawyer, 00:24:03.51\00:24:04.64 if you're a doctor, if you're a pastor, 00:24:04.64\00:24:06.61 if you're a man, or if you're a woman. 00:24:06.61\00:24:08.61 He says go. 00:24:08.61\00:24:09.34 - Yeah. - And that's it. 00:24:09.34\00:24:10.71 - And when He sent out the 70, you know, 00:24:10.71\00:24:12.28 some of them were fishermen, 00:24:12.28\00:24:14.05 one of 'em was a tax collector. 00:24:14.05\00:24:15.18 - Absolutely, absolutely. 00:24:15.18\00:24:16.79 - It's like those guys had been all sorts 00:24:16.79\00:24:18.09 of different qualifications. 00:24:18.09\00:24:20.49 And He sent them all out on the same job 00:24:20.49\00:24:22.49 to tell others about Him. 00:24:22.49\00:24:24.53 - Seek and to save those that are lost. 00:24:24.53\00:24:27.23 You know? 00:24:27.23\00:24:28.03 That's, I mean, that's it. 00:24:28.03\00:24:30.20 We just complicate it. 00:24:30.20\00:24:31.80 - Well, we complicate it because we're afraid 00:24:31.80\00:24:35.60 or we're unwilling or we're not really converted maybe. 00:24:35.60\00:24:39.81 - Yes. 00:24:39.81\00:24:40.84 - [Natalie] And that's a scary thought. 00:24:40.84\00:24:41.38 - It really is. 00:24:41.38\00:24:42.18 - That we're holding onto things 00:24:42.18\00:24:44.28 that come between us and Christ 00:24:44.28\00:24:45.75 and what He wants to do in our lives. 00:24:45.75\00:24:47.22 - Absolutely. 00:24:47.22\00:24:48.35 And you know, you think of too, 00:24:48.35\00:24:49.75 the other thing I thought of was, 00:24:49.75\00:24:51.42 what is the value of one soul? 00:24:51.42\00:24:53.79 'Cause God is constantly asking, "What are you willing 00:24:53.79\00:24:56.76 "to give up so that one person will be saved?" 00:24:56.76\00:25:01.06 I gave up everything and I would do it for one. 00:25:01.06\00:25:03.83 That's a tough question. 00:25:03.83\00:25:05.93 It's an easy answer, but it's a tough question. 00:25:05.93\00:25:08.37 - Right. - But are we ready 00:25:08.37\00:25:10.24 to give the answer that God wants? 00:25:10.24\00:25:12.44 - Usually the answer to that is no. 00:25:12.44\00:25:14.41 - [Guest Natalie] Yeah. 00:25:14.41\00:25:15.54 - We have to fight through it though. 00:25:15.54\00:25:17.15 We have to grab onto Him by faith. 00:25:17.15\00:25:19.11 - Absolutely. 00:25:19.11\00:25:19.91 - And ask Him to help us. 00:25:19.91\00:25:21.22 I mean, that's the only place we'll have the strength 00:25:21.22\00:25:23.79 to do something like that. 00:25:23.79\00:25:24.82 - [Guest Natalie] Absolutely, absolutely. 00:25:24.82\00:25:26.45 - 'Cause when Christ is in us, 00:25:26.45\00:25:28.32 that's the only place that that kind 00:25:28.32\00:25:29.89 of willingness comes from. 00:25:29.89\00:25:31.63 - Absolutely. 00:25:31.63\00:25:32.99 - Those are powerful thoughts and it's a powerful choice, 00:25:32.99\00:25:36.70 that you've had to make. 00:25:36.70\00:25:38.07 And I'm sure it's not, you've made it once and it's done. 00:25:38.07\00:25:41.57 I'm sure it's continually having 00:25:41.57\00:25:43.10 to choose the same choice again. 00:25:43.10\00:25:45.34 And like right now you're in America and Billy's over there. 00:25:45.34\00:25:49.54 And it's like you have to go back. 00:25:49.54\00:25:52.28 - Right. 00:25:52.28\00:25:53.08 - But you have choices, still. 00:25:53.08\00:25:55.02 You know, things that have to be done while you're here 00:25:55.02\00:25:57.39 and while he's there and stuff 00:25:57.39\00:25:58.99 like that have had to be done. 00:25:58.99\00:26:01.39 And some of it's not easy. 00:26:01.39\00:26:02.66 - No. 00:26:02.66\00:26:03.69 - [Natalie] The affliction continues. 00:26:03.69\00:26:04.63 - Yes. 00:26:04.63\00:26:05.93 - And I know that recently your oldest daughter 00:26:05.93\00:26:07.96 has chosen to come back to America for school. 00:26:07.96\00:26:11.27 And I'm sure that involved some choices. 00:26:11.27\00:26:13.87 - Yeah, tough choices. 00:26:13.87\00:26:15.50 Tough choices. 00:26:16.81\00:26:18.01 - Yeah, you were sharing with me 00:26:18.01\00:26:19.41 when you were at the airport and it was just so hard to. 00:26:19.41\00:26:22.94 - It was so hard. 00:26:22.94\00:26:24.28 - It also, I think, the separation from our children 00:26:24.28\00:26:27.58 teaches us a little bit about what God went through 00:26:27.58\00:26:29.75 when Christ came down here. 00:26:29.75\00:26:31.32 - And you know, it's with this same nurture 00:26:31.32\00:26:35.06 and loving spirit that God wants us 00:26:35.06\00:26:37.63 to take to the mission field 00:26:37.63\00:26:39.83 because over there, they've become my children. 00:26:39.83\00:26:42.60 Literally. 00:26:43.53\00:26:44.60 I don't get tired of the hellos when I drive 00:26:44.60\00:26:46.53 through the village, you know? 00:26:46.53\00:26:48.84 I mean, sometimes we go in six times 00:26:48.84\00:26:50.91 and drive out six times, and each time, 00:26:50.91\00:26:53.94 - [Natalie] Hello, hello. 00:26:53.94\00:26:54.78 - Hello, hello. 00:26:54.78\00:26:55.91 - Well, I just wanna thank you 00:26:55.91\00:26:56.98 for sharing your heart with us today. 00:26:56.98\00:26:58.65 - Thank you. 00:26:58.65\00:26:59.71 - I know some of the, some of the points 00:26:59.71\00:27:02.55 that you've shared are a little more touching than others, 00:27:02.55\00:27:04.75 but I just really appreciate you sharing about the project 00:27:04.75\00:27:08.99 and what's going on spiritually, as well, 00:27:10.09\00:27:12.66 the challenges and the afflictions. 00:27:12.66\00:27:15.36 - Yes. - Some of the little glimpses 00:27:15.36\00:27:17.07 into the sum of the afflictions. 00:27:17.07\00:27:18.57 It's a blessing to know what to pray for. 00:27:18.57\00:27:21.20 And so I just really appreciate you sharing with us today. 00:27:21.20\00:27:24.51 - Thank you so much. 00:27:24.51\00:27:26.51 - And I would like to invite you to pray 00:27:26.51\00:27:28.41 for the project in Cambodia, 00:27:28.41\00:27:30.38 for the little villages nearby, 00:27:30.38\00:27:32.48 and for the opportunities that the Lord is opening 00:27:32.48\00:27:34.88 to be a witness in those villages. 00:27:34.88\00:27:37.22 Please also pray for the needs that have been shared here 00:27:37.22\00:27:40.79 because they're real and God has a plan. 00:27:40.79\00:27:44.33 And if you would like more information, 00:27:44.33\00:27:45.83 you can contact us at Jesus for Asia, PO Box 1221, 00:27:45.83\00:27:50.87 Collegedale, Tennessee, 37315. 00:27:51.67\00:27:54.94 Call us at (423) 413-7321 00:27:54.94\00:27:58.11 or visit our website at Jesus4Asia.org. 00:27:59.91\00:28:04.18 May God richly bless you until we see you next time 00:28:04.18\00:28:07.35 on "Jesus for Asia Now". 00:28:07.35\00:28:09.35 (inspirational music) 00:28:09.35\00:28:12.59 (inspirational music) 00:28:19.36\00:28:22.56
