went there was in 1969.

missionaries from New Guinea

through a number of countries

on the way back home.

through some slides of my mother

she's passed away

She says, "how in the
world are we gonna reach

this huge city of
3 million people?"

And now there's
13 million people.

- And that was 1969.

a lot of those things

from when I was five,

but now we can
make a difference.

We can really make an impact,
and this is what I want to do.

- But the real question is,
and it's on everybody's mind,

question, how do we do such a

thing? How do we make an
impact on such a large city?

And I have to tell you
about my friend Doug Van.

- First time we met
pastor Doug was in 2008

and he was a
church planting pastor

in Bangkok sponsored
by the general conference.

And his job was to plant
five churches in Bangkok.
00:02:26.21\00:02:30.28
And I saw what he was doing.
00:02:30.28\00:02:33.15
And I was so excited
about what his focus was
00:02:33.15\00:02:37.49
and what his
mission was that I'm like,
00:02:37.49\00:02:39.45
I wanna film this.

So in 2009, we actually pitched

this to the general conference,

the Adventist Mission Department
at General Conference.

And they said, yeah,
we wanna see this happen.

And so in 2010,

I went over there to Bangkok
00:02:52.63\00:02:54.50
and I thought I'm
gonna be here for two months,

film all 13 and then
come back and edit them.

But after two months I
had maybe two episodes filmed

and you and I were separated
00:03:05.95\00:03:08.58
for like three,
four and a half months.

Finally, you came over.

But during that time, I
got to follow him around

and see the challenges that
he had in expanding the work

in an environment, in a
culture, a church culture,

where there is very
little support for evangelism.

There is very little support,
especially foreign evangelism.

We feel like
there's, here in America.

That there's very little support
for evangelism in general.

But when you go overseas,
you start to realize, wow,

over 92% of all
Christian giving worldwide

goes to minister to
the 8% that speak English.
00:03:47.69\00:03:51.23
That's like having 10 people
00:03:53.76\00:03:56.06
and you have 10 bottles of water
00:03:56.06\00:03:58.30
and you give nine
bottles of water to one person

and one to the other nine.

And so I was always
following pastor around.

I started to see
this huge imbalanced

- Disparity

- Disparity yeah, between
those that have the gospel

and those that do not.

And the majority of
those that have the gospel

are hanging around
others that have the gospel

and there's very
little crossover.

And so I started developing
a huge burden for the city.

A lot of people say,

well, you can't
really live in the city,

but after being
there for awhile,

I really started to
sense the Holy spirit

in downtown Bangkok.

And why is that?

Because He's very clear on
the fact that the Holy spirit

is where the need is.

He's where the people are.

He's where the people are
that have the greatest need.

That's where He's the strongest.

And so as I walk around
the city, now I see people,

I see people that need Christ.

And we actually were
able to interview some people

that had never heard
the name of Jesus before.

13 million people,
almost half a million acres.

like over a hundred miles

So, you know if you're a

- Is a sizable place.

- Yeah, and there's all
these different districts

and the church,

we had presence in maybe 20
of the 50 districts in Bangkok.

The Adventist church
has that kind of presence.

And so you might
have the gospel planted

in one neighborhood,
but the next neighborhood,

or just a few blocks
down they've never heard it.

about a missionary

this has never been in Thailand.

This is the first time we need
to tell everybody in Thailand

And so I was at a
church plant with pastor Doug

and he introduced me to
one of the new members there.

I mean, we grow up.

unbelievers here in America,

everybody's heard of Jesus.

When you say the name Jesus,

they think, oh,
somebody up there.

- They have a little
understanding of that.

prayer for families,
prayers for relationships,

even the desperate
prayers of university students

trying to cram to get exams,
00:10:20.98\00:10:23.05
The God of this place,
can you help me pass my exams.

And you know, to
hear those stories of God,

even answering
those kinds of prayers,

I see young people

who are committing their lives.

who are being awakened

to the fact that
Jesus died for us.

Jesus died for
me, not just for us.

And because of that,

that means that I
have the privilege

of sharing that
news with others.

Jesus is coming again.

because they don't trust you.
