(lively music) 00:00:00.60\00:00:02.80 - Hello and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:21.75\00:00:24.15 I'm Natalie Wood and my husband, Jon, is with me today, 00:00:24.15\00:00:26.79 as we share the youth Mission Show 00:00:26.79\00:00:28.69 our young people did a few years ago. 00:00:28.69\00:00:31.03 Hello love. - Hi darling, how are you? 00:00:31.03\00:00:32.89 - I'm doing fine. - Praise the Lord. 00:00:32.89\00:00:34.83 - You know, it's a joy to talk about this show 00:00:34.83\00:00:37.07 because it was such a growth experience for our young people 00:00:37.07\00:00:42.04 but it was also an opportunity 00:00:42.94\00:00:44.67 to show so many varying aspects of mission work 00:00:44.67\00:00:48.68 and missionary life. 00:00:48.68\00:00:49.91 I guess, I'm not sure exactly where we should start, 00:00:51.95\00:00:54.68 but maybe kind of how we ended up doing the show? 00:00:54.68\00:00:57.92 - Okay, all right. 00:00:57.92\00:00:59.42 Well, it started out as a request and an idea, 00:00:59.42\00:01:03.36 there's a lot of missionaries out there 00:01:04.53\00:01:07.23 and a lot of youth don't really, 00:01:07.23\00:01:10.97 I mean, in the past when you and I are growing up, 00:01:10.97\00:01:13.13 there's all these mission stories, 00:01:13.13\00:01:14.70 these books about missionaries and their challenges 00:01:14.70\00:01:17.04 and travels or something like that. 00:01:17.04\00:01:18.51 Hardly anything these days from missionary story, 00:01:18.51\00:01:21.44 and why is that? 00:01:21.44\00:01:22.94 One reason is there's hardly any missionaries out there 00:01:22.94\00:01:26.21 and the missionaries that are out there, 00:01:26.21\00:01:27.95 aren't really on the front lines 00:01:27.95\00:01:30.62 as much as they were in the past. 00:01:30.62\00:01:32.42 The missionaries that we sponsor as a church 00:01:32.42\00:01:34.89 are more in the administrative side of things 00:01:34.89\00:01:38.56 or something like that. 00:01:38.56\00:01:40.20 - Teachers and- - Doctors and stuff like that, 00:01:40.20\00:01:43.00 which is needed but it's not not that same push. 00:01:43.00\00:01:45.97 - It's not front line mission stories as in. 00:01:45.97\00:01:48.54 - Exactly, and so we thought, 00:01:48.54\00:01:50.11 well, what if we had mission stories in the modern media, 00:01:50.11\00:01:54.34 which is television video. 00:01:54.34\00:01:57.35 And so what if we did a video series for the youth 00:01:57.35\00:02:01.45 but instead of having old people talk about it, 00:02:01.45\00:02:04.29 why don't we feature young people 00:02:04.29\00:02:06.82 going into the mission field, interviewing the misters. 00:02:06.82\00:02:09.26 Now originally, we were gonna have them 00:02:09.26\00:02:11.26 see what it was like to be a kid in the mission field. 00:02:11.26\00:02:14.03 - But there aren't a lot of missionary kids out there. 00:02:15.46\00:02:18.43 - No, that's hard. 00:02:18.43\00:02:19.63 The ones that we were thinking about 00:02:19.63\00:02:21.27 when we first had the idea, they kinda like grew up, 00:02:21.27\00:02:23.87 and so we switched it to having in the youth interview 00:02:25.27\00:02:29.64 and meet the missionaries. 00:02:29.64\00:02:31.61 Now I used to work at Pacific Union College 00:02:31.61\00:02:34.08 and I would take youth from our program, 00:02:34.08\00:02:37.69 I was teaching in the video program, 00:02:37.69\00:02:39.69 we would go overseas and we would interview missionaries 00:02:39.69\00:02:42.92 that were over there. 00:02:42.92\00:02:44.16 They were underfunded but making a big impact 00:02:44.16\00:02:47.76 and the impact that it had on my college students 00:02:47.76\00:02:51.63 really inspired me to, hey, this is something 00:02:52.87\00:02:56.14 that makes a difference in the lives of young people. 00:02:56.14\00:02:58.97 - Right, even taking them short-term 00:02:58.97\00:03:01.41 can make such a huge difference, it can open their eyes, 00:03:01.41\00:03:03.98 which is one of the reasons 00:03:03.98\00:03:05.41 we call our short-term mission trips, vision trips. 00:03:05.41\00:03:08.38 We don't call them just mission trips 00:03:08.38\00:03:10.15 because you can't do a lot of mission 00:03:10.15\00:03:12.85 when you're not there very long. 00:03:12.85\00:03:14.99 You don't really get to know the people, 00:03:14.99\00:03:16.66 it's not immersive really, 00:03:16.66\00:03:19.06 and so it's like to have the opportunity to at least see 00:03:19.06\00:03:22.90 and open your eyes to what's out there 00:03:22.90\00:03:25.93 and what the world is really like. 00:03:25.93\00:03:27.47 - Right, exactly, and the biggest takeaway 00:03:27.47\00:03:30.07 or the biggest impact that I saw happening 00:03:30.07\00:03:32.21 was when our youth, 00:03:32.21\00:03:34.21 were seeing people that had been successful 00:03:34.21\00:03:37.01 in the business world for instance, 00:03:37.01\00:03:39.18 and they gave it all up and they moved to the mission field, 00:03:39.18\00:03:42.48 living in bamboo huts, 00:03:42.48\00:03:43.89 and they were happier than the people that were back home 00:03:45.29\00:03:48.62 that had everything that they needed 00:03:48.62\00:03:50.59 and living a normal life. 00:03:50.59\00:03:52.39 In other words, they were told 00:03:52.39\00:03:53.76 that this is how you become happy. 00:03:53.76\00:03:55.60 You get a good job, you go to school, 00:03:55.60\00:03:59.00 you have a nice house, nice car and be secure 00:03:59.00\00:04:01.50 and all that kinda stuff. 00:04:01.50\00:04:02.90 That's the road to happiness. - Financial security. 00:04:02.90\00:04:04.47 - Exactly, and then they're meeting these people 00:04:04.47\00:04:06.37 that had that, gave it all up and they're now happier 00:04:06.37\00:04:11.08 than anyone that they know that went that- 00:04:11.08\00:04:14.38 - The regular way. - The regular way. 00:04:14.38\00:04:16.99 The American Dream so to speak and so- 00:04:16.99\00:04:18.99 - It is a big difference for them. 00:04:18.99\00:04:20.66 - And so we thought, well, let's try that with, 00:04:20.66\00:04:23.16 and we happen to have a couple of teenagers at the time. 00:04:23.16\00:04:26.43 - So our daughter Mary Ann was 14 at the time 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.30 and her best friend also 14, 00:04:30.30\00:04:33.37 and our son James was 16 at the time 00:04:33.37\00:04:36.47 when we went and shot the show. 00:04:36.47\00:04:38.17 - Yeah, and he was the producer. 00:04:38.17\00:04:39.87 And Lilyann- 00:04:40.91\00:04:42.18 - Which was a big challenge for him 00:04:42.18\00:04:43.58 to learn what it really meant to be a producer 00:04:43.58\00:04:46.28 on a show like that and traveling. 00:04:46.28\00:04:48.12 He had producers support. 00:04:49.32\00:04:50.72 - Yes. (both laughing) 00:04:50.72\00:04:52.32 His dad. 00:04:52.32\00:04:53.15 I kinda knew how much work it really takes 00:04:55.02\00:04:58.13 to put a series together. 00:04:58.13\00:05:00.66 - Yeah, 'cause you have a little bit of experience. 00:05:00.66\00:05:02.80 You kinda knew what we were in for 00:05:02.80\00:05:05.10 trying to shoot this show in six weeks. 00:05:05.10\00:05:07.34 - Right. 00:05:07.34\00:05:08.34 So we just wanted to give people 00:05:08.34\00:05:09.54 a little taste of the different episodes 00:05:09.54\00:05:12.37 and a little bit about how it's impacted our young people 00:05:12.37\00:05:15.41 and other young people around them 00:05:15.41\00:05:17.41 as they came face to face with the missionaries 00:05:17.41\00:05:20.18 and the lifestyles that they have chosen. 00:05:20.18\00:05:22.68 - Right, so the first episode 00:05:22.68\00:05:24.95 was from the travel getting there from China and on the way. 00:05:24.95\00:05:28.89 And then the second episode was when we arrived 00:05:28.89\00:05:31.53 and we went to a floating market and dealt with jet lag, 00:05:31.53\00:05:34.73 and met a missionary from a sensitive area. 00:05:35.90\00:05:38.27 But this clip that we wanna share is from the third episode 00:05:38.27\00:05:41.40 where we were driving North in Thailand 00:05:41.40\00:05:43.44 and we drove eight hours and never passed another Adventist. 00:05:43.44\00:05:48.08 - Right, now just to give you kinda behind the scenes, 00:05:48.08\00:05:52.01 this was hard because this was the third episode. 00:05:53.42\00:05:56.15 This is the fourth that we started the travel from America. 00:05:56.15\00:06:01.16 And so these young people adapted so well 00:06:02.29\00:06:04.23 'cause jet lag, it's 12 hours difference. 00:06:05.43\00:06:07.40 So noon is midnight, midnight is noon. 00:06:07.40\00:06:11.57 - And your meals are in the middle of the night. 00:06:11.57\00:06:14.37 - That's when you're hungry anyway. 00:06:14.37\00:06:16.37 At around noon, you you're supposed to eat, 00:06:16.37\00:06:17.97 but you're like, I don't feel like eating. 00:06:17.97\00:06:20.64 - All right, let's watch this clip now. 00:06:20.64\00:06:22.18 - Okay. 00:06:22.18\00:06:23.48 - We're gonna spend the night in Sukhothai, 00:06:23.48\00:06:25.71 and then in the morning, 00:06:25.71\00:06:27.65 we're gonna take another bus to Chiang Mai. 00:06:27.65\00:06:30.45 And along the way, 00:06:30.45\00:06:31.89 we're gonna stop at different towns and pray for them, 00:06:31.89\00:06:35.66 because like the whole way to Chiang Mai, 00:06:35.66\00:06:37.43 there's like no Adventists. 00:06:37.43\00:06:39.86 So we're gonna claim promises 00:06:39.86\00:06:42.26 and claim those areas for Jesus. 00:06:42.26\00:06:47.27 (calm music) 00:06:47.87\00:06:49.87 - There's over like five million people 00:06:58.65\00:07:00.45 that live in this valley, and over the next five hours, 00:07:00.45\00:07:04.29 we will not even come within 100 miles 00:07:04.29\00:07:08.36 of a single church plant. 00:07:08.36\00:07:09.89 - We're claiming Joshua 1:3, 00:07:10.89\00:07:12.73 that wherever you plant the sole of your foot, 00:07:12.73\00:07:14.66 that have I already given unto you. 00:07:14.66\00:07:16.77 We're claiming that God will send someone here 00:07:16.77\00:07:20.20 to represent Him in this area that doesn't have anyone. 00:07:20.20\00:07:24.91 (calm music) 00:07:26.37\00:07:28.78 - We love and thank you. 00:07:58.01\00:08:00.08 - This was such an experience for our youth. 00:08:01.41\00:08:04.61 Being in a place where there was no other believers 00:08:04.61\00:08:07.42 and being in a bus that long, 00:08:09.22\00:08:10.69 without coming within 100 miles of a believer. 00:08:10.69\00:08:13.79 We don't re kinda think about it but these kids that grow up 00:08:15.29\00:08:18.36 in Adventist churches, Adventist families, 00:08:18.36\00:08:21.23 they don't really get that kind of exposure to ministry. 00:08:21.23\00:08:25.30 And for them to pray, 00:08:25.30\00:08:27.00 they felt like they were like entering in 00:08:27.00\00:08:29.40 and able to do something. 00:08:29.40\00:08:31.04 - And the awesome thing 00:08:31.04\00:08:32.51 is that now there's a family in one of those cities. 00:08:32.51\00:08:36.88 - That's right, the cities we spent the night in. 00:08:36.88\00:08:39.38 - Those young people, our young people, 00:08:41.42\00:08:43.15 have gotten to see the answers to their prayers, 00:08:43.15\00:08:45.75 because we were praying for people to come 00:08:45.75\00:08:47.59 and live in those cities and be a testimony 00:08:47.59\00:08:50.53 to God's power and God's love. 00:08:50.53\00:08:55.06 - Yes, and so prayers make a difference. 00:08:55.06\00:08:58.20 - And so our young people who have had the opportunity 00:08:58.20\00:09:00.17 to see that firsthand. 00:09:00.17\00:09:01.70 - It's a cool thing 00:09:04.47\00:09:05.94 when you go into these areas that are unreached, 00:09:05.94\00:09:07.84 because if something happens, that's like for God, 00:09:07.84\00:09:12.85 for his kingdom, that's like the only thing. 00:09:13.98\00:09:16.12 So like if somebody comes to Christ in those areas, 00:09:16.12\00:09:19.92 that's like 100% church growth rate, 00:09:19.92\00:09:22.79 just one person it's like 100% church growth. 00:09:22.79\00:09:25.79 Whereas if you do something here in America, 00:09:25.79\00:09:27.50 it's cool and it's really good, 00:09:27.50\00:09:29.36 but it kind of blends, there's so much going on. 00:09:30.77\00:09:32.90 And they kinda when they're in that situation, 00:09:34.27\00:09:35.74 they kinda feel like well, it's up to me. 00:09:35.74\00:09:37.77 There's a real need and you can see it, 00:09:38.97\00:09:41.71 and that's impacting also. 00:09:41.71\00:09:43.71 - Right, and the power of prayer, 00:09:44.68\00:09:46.78 we just really want our young people 00:09:46.78\00:09:48.12 to understand the power of prayer 00:09:48.12\00:09:49.62 because when we pray, God can do amazing, amazing things. 00:09:49.62\00:09:54.16 Well, we've got a lot more clips to go through. 00:09:54.16\00:09:56.39 So the next one is from the young people 00:09:56.39\00:09:59.69 getting to go to a people group called the Lahu, 00:09:59.69\00:10:03.13 and we got to go to their church that day 00:10:03.13\00:10:05.87 and this is their experience there. 00:10:05.87\00:10:08.87 - We came to this village, 00:10:10.01\00:10:12.17 that's just a few miles from the media team that we visited. 00:10:12.17\00:10:17.18 - [Girl] So people are from a tribe called Lahu, 00:10:18.58\00:10:20.62 and we went to church here and it was really nice. 00:10:22.05\00:10:24.59 - We got to teach Sabbath School and- 00:10:24.59\00:10:26.25 - For the children, we told them stories 00:10:26.25\00:10:29.16 and taught them to sing "Jesus Loves Me" in English, 00:10:29.16\00:10:32.29 and it was actually really fun. 00:10:32.29\00:10:35.50 Even me when I've been on trips before, 00:10:35.50\00:10:38.10 I was like, "Well, I can't really do anything." 00:10:38.10\00:10:39.80 So I'd just need to sit and watch, 00:10:39.80\00:10:41.57 but then we got to teach them something 00:10:41.57\00:10:44.91 and tell them stories. 00:10:44.91\00:10:46.17 And it was really fun and it was really good. 00:10:46.17\00:10:49.18 I think that definitely, 00:10:49.18\00:10:52.21 you're never too young to be a missionary. 00:10:52.21\00:10:54.28 - That insight that she had, that's huge. 00:10:55.62\00:10:58.29 - Yeah, it was a neat opportunity for them. 00:10:58.29\00:11:00.76 Really, really wonderful. 00:11:00.76\00:11:02.72 Now, we took them to another place. 00:11:02.72\00:11:04.66 This is from episode four 00:11:05.96\00:11:07.83 and this one's a little bit different because it's a temple. 00:11:07.83\00:11:12.80 - So the reason we took them here 00:11:14.67\00:11:16.37 is because we wanted to kinda step over 00:11:16.37\00:11:18.81 the line of cultures. 00:11:18.81\00:11:23.81 We wanted to give them a sense 00:11:24.68\00:11:27.58 of what the local people believe, 00:11:27.58\00:11:31.25 how they worship, how they seek God. 00:11:31.25\00:11:34.62 So we wanted to see, this is a whole different worldview, 00:11:34.62\00:11:38.49 when you come to a church, a Christian Church, 00:11:38.49\00:11:42.73 it's very different 00:11:42.73\00:11:44.00 than when they go to one of their temples. 00:11:44.00\00:11:46.07 - Very much so. - Yeah, this is kinda cool. 00:11:47.37\00:11:49.17 - We looked at trying to decide 00:11:52.31\00:11:53.91 whether we should come here or not, 00:11:53.91\00:11:55.48 and we're like, oh, that looks really, really pretty 00:11:55.48\00:11:57.78 and really cool, we should go. 00:11:57.78\00:11:59.95 When we got here, we're like, oh wow, 00:11:59.95\00:12:01.72 the picture didn't do it justice at all. 00:12:01.72\00:12:05.05 - This temple was actually made by an artist 00:12:05.05\00:12:07.99 not not like a priest or anything. 00:12:07.99\00:12:09.92 It was an artist who, 00:12:09.92\00:12:11.46 this is their interpretation of like heaven and hell. 00:12:11.46\00:12:15.23 It's got like white and then like silver outlines and stuff. 00:12:15.23\00:12:18.47 - You can notice on this sidewalk, 00:12:21.94\00:12:24.07 there's like imprints of flame 00:12:24.07\00:12:26.54 and there's hands, kinda creepy. 00:12:27.48\00:12:29.91 This part is the hell I guess and the temple is heaven. 00:12:31.68\00:12:35.88 - Can you imagine how that would affect 00:12:39.72\00:12:41.66 our young people's minds 00:12:41.66\00:12:42.86 seeing there are people that grow up 00:12:42.86\00:12:44.83 in that kind of mindset, that kind of understanding. 00:12:44.83\00:12:48.03 - It makes the beauty of Jesus so much more beautiful. 00:12:49.60\00:12:52.87 So yeah, that was an artist's interpretation 00:12:54.64\00:12:57.67 and so it wasn't an actual temple. 00:12:57.67\00:12:59.91 I mean, it was a temple- - But we went there later. 00:12:59.91\00:13:01.51 - It wasn't built by the monks and all of that. 00:13:01.51\00:13:03.45 - So it's more accurate probably to their mindset 00:13:05.01\00:13:07.52 of how life and salvation works and everything. 00:13:07.52\00:13:11.49 - Right. 00:13:11.49\00:13:13.36 Well, the next video, 00:13:13.36\00:13:15.19 this is one of our young people's favorite parts, 00:13:15.19\00:13:17.93 especially James. 00:13:17.93\00:13:19.59 And Mary Ann talks about it, 00:13:19.59\00:13:21.00 she still wants to go back and finish the ride 00:13:21.00\00:13:23.90 because you all had to cut it short, 00:13:23.90\00:13:25.70 we call this the Ride to Pie. 00:13:26.87\00:13:28.94 (both laughing) 00:13:28.94\00:13:30.67 - 'Cause that's the name of the town 00:13:30.67\00:13:33.31 that we spent the night in. 00:13:33.31\00:13:34.68 It was a long ride, it was two days. 00:13:35.81\00:13:38.15 We should have done it in three but we crammed it into two, 00:13:38.15\00:13:40.45 and along the way, my shift lever broke 00:13:40.45\00:13:43.52 so the Lord performed a miracle 00:13:43.52\00:13:45.19 and got that thing going again, 00:13:45.19\00:13:46.62 and this is very intense days. 00:13:46.62\00:13:49.69 - Yeah, yeah. 00:13:49.69\00:13:51.03 (lively music) (motorcycle engine roaring) 00:13:52.26\00:13:56.93 - [Girl] The Northern part of Thailand 00:14:04.04\00:14:05.47 is mostly untouched by the gospel. 00:14:05.47\00:14:08.31 As far as we know, 00:14:08.31\00:14:09.68 we did not pass any missionaries on the whole way. 00:14:09.68\00:14:12.78 (lively music) 00:14:12.78\00:14:15.35 - See right here, this is my shift lever 00:14:22.49\00:14:25.83 and it's supposed to go on right down there. 00:14:28.30\00:14:31.70 I rode one motorcycle and Lilyann was behind me, 00:14:34.67\00:14:38.57 and James wrote a motorcycle and Mary Ann was behind him. 00:14:38.57\00:14:41.58 We swapped off a couple of times but that was kinda like, 00:14:41.58\00:14:44.58 in the first day it was like eight hours 00:14:44.58\00:14:47.65 and the second day was 12 hours. 00:14:47.65\00:14:50.22 - Oh, on motorcycle. 00:14:50.22\00:14:51.49 I remember how tired you were 00:14:53.39\00:14:54.49 when you got to the other end. 00:14:54.49\00:14:56.19 We took a minivan then got there more quickly. 00:14:56.19\00:14:59.06 - You guys went straight and went loop. 00:14:59.06\00:15:01.30 So the reason why we drove so hard 00:15:01.30\00:15:03.10 is we wanted to get to Leroy's place, 00:15:03.10\00:15:05.40 in the refugee camp the next day before he left. 00:15:05.40\00:15:09.20 - Right, so here's a video of that. 00:15:09.20\00:15:11.01 (lively music) 00:15:12.47\00:15:15.14 - We're in the Maeramoo Refugee Camp 00:15:21.58\00:15:23.72 and we finally got to Mr. Sharon where he's teaching. 00:15:23.72\00:15:27.72 He has like a classroom 00:15:27.72\00:15:29.59 and so you can hear them in the background. 00:15:29.59\00:15:31.79 He's currently teaching a class 00:15:32.99\00:15:35.10 by using the Bible to teach them English. 00:15:35.10\00:15:37.47 So we are here just to learn 00:15:37.47\00:15:38.90 kind of more about what he does 00:15:40.20\00:15:41.60 and what life is like in refugee camp. 00:15:41.60\00:15:44.21 - [Sharon] As though they have been waiting ages, ages. 00:15:44.21\00:15:48.78 Ages were long time, ages and ages. 00:15:48.78\00:15:51.88 - We're still at the refugee camp, 00:15:53.15\00:15:54.75 we just talk to the principle of the school here. 00:15:54.75\00:15:58.29 It's actually junior college 00:15:58.29\00:16:00.52 and he told us a little bit about the camp. 00:16:00.52\00:16:03.06 It was founded in 1985. 00:16:03.06\00:16:04.96 They can't actually leave the camp 00:16:06.96\00:16:09.23 because they are refugees from Buma. 00:16:09.23\00:16:11.57 - It's really hard for them to get an education. 00:16:11.57\00:16:14.34 They aren't really allowed to work outside of the camp 00:16:14.34\00:16:17.84 so they don't have any money really. 00:16:17.84\00:16:19.91 - It's really that they have school here. 00:16:23.38\00:16:25.78 (calm music) 00:16:25.78\00:16:29.05 - [Girl] As we watched Mr. Sharon teach English, 00:16:29.05\00:16:30.95 we were impressed by his enthusiasm and commitment. 00:16:30.95\00:16:34.36 He uses Uncle Arthur's, My Bible Friends, 00:16:34.36\00:16:36.73 to teach English along with Bible stories. 00:16:36.73\00:16:39.76 We can tell he loves sharing the truth in this simple way. 00:16:39.76\00:16:42.63 - So then we went to see some people 00:16:45.37\00:16:48.34 that had flown in to do some dental training 00:16:48.34\00:16:50.47 for some students at a local school there. 00:16:50.47\00:16:52.57 (calm music) 00:16:53.51\00:16:55.91 - Even visiting a lot of missionaries 00:16:57.21\00:16:58.78 and like just seeing like how they do everyday life 00:16:58.78\00:17:01.72 and they seem really happy, really content, 00:17:01.72\00:17:06.52 of course they have struggles. 00:17:06.52\00:17:09.26 I assume like when they first came over here, it was harder 00:17:09.26\00:17:12.23 'cause like they probably missed home 00:17:12.23\00:17:13.56 but they seem really happy 00:17:13.56\00:17:16.90 and it's exciting to just see what they do 00:17:16.90\00:17:20.07 and difference that they're making in the world around them. 00:17:20.07\00:17:22.60 So I've enjoyed having a privilege of meeting them 00:17:22.60\00:17:26.01 and seeing them, yeah. 00:17:26.01\00:17:28.31 - This is so profound to me that a young person can see 00:17:31.48\00:17:35.25 that those people that are following the path of service, 00:17:35.25\00:17:38.62 path of Christ, that's where the happiness is. 00:17:38.62\00:17:41.99 That's huge. - In spite of struggles, 00:17:41.99\00:17:44.93 trials, whatever else they have to go through, 00:17:44.93\00:17:47.40 difficult circumstances, 00:17:47.40\00:17:49.36 they find happiness and they find great happiness. 00:17:49.36\00:17:52.73 - It just exposes Satan's lie 00:17:52.73\00:17:55.00 and living for yourself is where the happiness is. 00:17:55.00\00:17:57.07 - Right, exactly. 00:17:57.07\00:17:58.34 Well, this next one is branch Sabbath school class 00:18:00.11\00:18:03.01 that was in the same area. 00:18:03.01\00:18:04.68 (calm music) 00:18:05.81\00:18:08.25 - You know these babies 00:18:13.09\00:18:14.09 have their diapers no? - Yes. 00:18:14.09\00:18:15.52 (both giggling) 00:18:15.52\00:18:18.73 - It feels like you stepped right into like a mission book, 00:18:18.73\00:18:22.50 a story like out of the house kind of, 00:18:22.50\00:18:24.07 'cause like there's all the pigs 00:18:24.07\00:18:26.30 and animals underneath the house 00:18:26.30\00:18:28.77 and you climb up a little ladder, 00:18:28.77\00:18:30.97 you're in like a little hut thing, house. 00:18:30.97\00:18:34.41 It's quite an experience but it's good. 00:18:38.78\00:18:42.02 (man speaking in foreign language) 00:18:43.92\00:18:47.96 (calm music) 00:18:47.96\00:18:50.36 It's like a huge culture shock, I don't know. 00:18:56.90\00:19:00.37 It's just like wow, kind of. 00:19:03.37\00:19:07.41 You read about stuff like this but to actually be here 00:19:08.84\00:19:11.01 is just like you get all the smells and everything. 00:19:11.01\00:19:14.58 (pig snorting) 00:19:18.05\00:19:20.62 - You like that shot of the pig at the end there? 00:19:22.06\00:19:25.13 - Yeah, that's pretty funny. 00:19:25.13\00:19:26.76 But again, it was like a total, 00:19:26.76\00:19:29.73 you're like in the mission story book as she was a saying, 00:19:31.10\00:19:33.34 and it was really an eyeopening experience. 00:19:33.34\00:19:38.34 - Yeah, and that's what's so needed. 00:19:39.54\00:19:41.94 I mean, our kids grow up in this bubble 00:19:41.94\00:19:44.11 and they think the whole world is like America 00:19:46.28\00:19:48.88 and to take them outside that bubble 00:19:48.88\00:19:50.82 so they can see what the world is really like. 00:19:50.82\00:19:53.49 Those concepts and those visions or those understandings, 00:19:56.49\00:20:00.53 may like go underground for years, 00:20:00.53\00:20:03.23 but they're never completely forgotten. 00:20:03.23\00:20:07.07 And so when they think about America, 00:20:07.07\00:20:08.74 now they think about America as being one way 00:20:08.74\00:20:11.41 or one kind of life, 00:20:11.41\00:20:13.01 there's many people that don't have that art 00:20:13.01\00:20:15.21 and they now know that by experience, not just theory. 00:20:15.21\00:20:18.81 To me, it's like every single child 00:20:18.81\00:20:22.18 should have that experience. 00:20:22.18\00:20:24.09 - And that's one of the reasons we shot this show 00:20:25.52\00:20:28.22 is to share it with those that won't be able to go. 00:20:28.22\00:20:31.63 We know that there will be young people that can't go 00:20:31.63\00:20:34.56 and so to make sure 00:20:34.56\00:20:35.93 that they have the opportunity to see this also 00:20:35.93\00:20:38.10 and see others experiencing this will help them as well. 00:20:38.10\00:20:42.20 - And maybe encourage them to go. 00:20:42.20\00:20:44.47 - To take the opportunity to go. 00:20:44.47\00:20:45.97 - Right, because it's a matter of priorities really. 00:20:45.97\00:20:50.28 - So then our next section is we went to Gail's 00:20:50.28\00:20:53.72 and some of our viewers might know who Gail is. 00:20:53.72\00:20:56.55 She's a nurse and we'll see her in a little bit, 00:20:56.55\00:20:59.09 but the road to her place is quite intense. 00:20:59.09\00:21:01.59 So the first video is of the road to Gail's place. 00:21:01.59\00:21:05.13 - This is Auntie Gail's truck. 00:21:07.60\00:21:09.66 We were wondering why such a small sweet lady 00:21:09.66\00:21:12.23 would need such a big, tough truck, but we soon found out. 00:21:12.23\00:21:15.90 The road to her house is rough and steep 00:21:15.90\00:21:19.37 and it's much steeper in real life 00:21:19.37\00:21:21.24 than it looks in the video. 00:21:21.24\00:21:22.61 Basically we are right in the back of the truck, 00:21:24.01\00:21:27.75 we've had a lot of steep corners and stuff, yeah. 00:21:27.75\00:21:31.45 That's where these little thing 'cause it's so dusty. 00:21:31.45\00:21:35.09 It's like you pass these trucks 00:21:36.79\00:21:38.99 and you're like this far away from hitting them. 00:21:38.99\00:21:41.63 So that is not good. 00:21:42.56\00:21:45.03 (lively music) 00:21:45.03\00:21:47.57 These roads are rough from the dry season, 00:21:56.51\00:21:58.78 but in the rainy season, 00:21:58.78\00:22:00.32 all the dust and dirt turns into deep slippery mud. 00:22:00.32\00:22:03.59 (calm music) 00:22:03.59\00:22:05.99 When the truck won't make it, they take a motorbike. 00:22:07.99\00:22:10.79 But even that can be a lot of hard work. 00:22:10.79\00:22:13.16 - So we finally arrived at Gail's 00:22:15.63\00:22:17.10 after going through the bumpy road, 00:22:17.10\00:22:18.60 and the next day we went to a village. 00:22:18.60\00:22:22.20 (calm music) 00:22:22.20\00:22:24.71 - Is he swollen at all? 00:22:27.88\00:22:29.11 - Not really a lot of people have come, 00:22:33.45\00:22:35.02 but those who have come she's treated them. 00:22:35.02\00:22:37.62 It's just cool to watch her check on them and stuff. 00:22:37.62\00:22:42.62 And so now we're gonna have worship 00:22:43.79\00:22:45.33 and a lot of kids have come, few kids have come, so yeah. 00:22:45.33\00:22:48.46 (singing in foreign language) 00:22:50.07\00:22:53.87 - I'm the most fortunate person in the world 00:23:21.46\00:23:23.26 because I have the very best job of anybody 00:23:23.26\00:23:26.37 because I get to meet people and help them physically 00:23:26.37\00:23:29.70 and that makes a bridge to their heart 00:23:29.70\00:23:32.34 so I can help them understand more about God. 00:23:32.34\00:23:34.98 And I get to tell people about God every day, 00:23:34.98\00:23:37.88 some that never heard before. 00:23:37.88\00:23:40.25 So this is the biggest joy 00:23:40.25\00:23:43.08 you could ever have this side of heaven. 00:23:43.08\00:23:44.99 - We love Gail. 00:23:47.69\00:23:48.79 - Yeah, we do. 00:23:49.89\00:23:51.36 - But for her to share, the young people just love Gail too. 00:23:51.36\00:23:55.86 To go there and see what she does 00:23:57.07\00:23:58.03 and how she treats the people 00:23:58.03\00:23:59.47 and then they have worship together with them 00:23:59.47\00:24:01.24 and it just brings of joy. 00:24:01.24\00:24:03.17 - Very inspiring for our young people. 00:24:03.17\00:24:05.07 - All right, the next part, we go to a slum 00:24:06.27\00:24:08.78 in the big city of Bangkok. 00:24:08.78\00:24:10.35 - Yeah, so from the jungle to the concrete jungle. 00:24:10.35\00:24:14.05 (Jon laughing) 00:24:14.05\00:24:16.22 - The kids are getting here and stuff so. 00:24:16.22\00:24:18.42 When we arrived at the slum, Josh Bauder greeted us 00:24:21.39\00:24:24.23 and showed us into the building they're renting for church. 00:24:24.23\00:24:27.20 (speaking in foreign language) 00:24:31.07\00:24:33.27 (lively music) 00:24:33.27\00:24:35.84 (speaking in foreign language) 00:24:38.27\00:24:42.21 We asked Josh to tell us 00:24:52.65\00:24:53.96 how they started to connect with the kids. 00:24:53.96\00:24:56.19 And he told us this little girl's story. 00:24:56.19\00:24:58.19 - This is Nong Toi. 00:24:59.39\00:25:01.03 (speaking in foreign language) 00:25:01.03\00:25:04.93 - So the rest of that story about the little girl, 00:25:09.20\00:25:11.57 you have to watch Mission Trek to get, 00:25:11.57\00:25:13.17 we don't have time to share it here. 00:25:13.17\00:25:14.44 - Right, and that's that missiontrek.net. 00:25:14.44\00:25:17.38 Just so we get that in there so people know where to watch. 00:25:17.38\00:25:20.35 - Missiontrek.net not .org.com, but.net 00:25:20.35\00:25:25.29 - .net, right. 00:25:25.29\00:25:26.25 - The next clip, 00:25:26.25\00:25:27.76 we're gonna go to a large temple in downtown Bangkok. 00:25:27.76\00:25:31.26 (lively music) 00:25:31.26\00:25:33.86 - This is the Reclining Buddha 00:25:52.88\00:25:54.85 that is as old as the United States. 00:25:54.85\00:25:57.39 It measures 150 feet long and 50 feet high, it's really big. 00:25:57.39\00:26:01.99 (lively music) 00:26:03.69\00:26:06.29 The ordinate paintings on the wall were originally there 00:26:07.66\00:26:10.17 to teach the general public the stories of Buddhist search 00:26:10.17\00:26:13.07 for enlightenment as well as Thai history. 00:26:13.07\00:26:16.00 I don't know how to read this kind of textbook, 00:26:16.00\00:26:18.41 but we were intrigued by them. 00:26:18.41\00:26:19.91 I don't know if you can hear the clink, 00:26:26.95\00:26:29.72 the little dinging, whatever it's called, 00:26:29.72\00:26:32.29 but people are putting money in these buckets like penance, 00:26:32.29\00:26:37.09 so they're trying to earn merit 00:26:38.13\00:26:40.96 by giving money for their sins. 00:26:40.96\00:26:43.57 - After shooting this and seeing the impact 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.37 that it has on the young people, 00:26:47.37\00:26:49.77 we would like to do more of these kind of vision trips. 00:26:49.77\00:26:53.11 In fact, we had one planned for the summer of 2020, 00:26:53.11\00:26:57.21 and we kinda got derailed. 00:26:57.21\00:27:00.22 But we're hoping in the future to be able to do this 00:27:00.22\00:27:02.48 and not only do it as a vision trip 00:27:02.48\00:27:05.09 but an educational vision trip. 00:27:05.09\00:27:07.52 So that we bring like a classroom curriculum to our 00:27:07.52\00:27:12.53 students but not in a classroom with four walls, 00:27:14.20\00:27:16.56 but we take them into the actual environment of missions. 00:27:16.56\00:27:20.37 - To educational experiences like this. 00:27:20.37\00:27:22.80 - Exactly, because the biggest impressions 00:27:22.80\00:27:25.04 really are seeing number one, the need 00:27:25.04\00:27:28.84 and number two, the happiness of those that are serving. 00:27:28.84\00:27:31.61 - Well, unfortunately that's all we have time for today. 00:27:33.08\00:27:35.08 - We're only about halfway through the trip. 00:27:35.08\00:27:36.89 - I know we've got a lot more to cover. 00:27:36.89\00:27:38.99 - So we're gonna have a part two, Mission Trek, 00:27:38.99\00:27:41.62 JFA now Mission Trek part two. 00:27:41.62\00:27:43.36 - Right, I'd like to thank you for joining us today 00:27:43.36\00:27:46.19 and if you would like to be involved, 00:27:46.19\00:27:47.76 you can contact us at Jesus for Asia, 00:27:47.76\00:27:50.53 P.O.
