(dramatic orchestral music) 00:00:00.86\00:00:03.87 - Hello, and welcome to "Jesus for Asia Now." 00:00:22.15\00:00:24.79 My husband Jon is here with me today, 00:00:24.79\00:00:26.45 and we'll be talking about the mountains of Mindoro. 00:00:26.45\00:00:29.46 You may remember that project, and today, 00:00:29.46\00:00:31.99 we get to see a little bit 00:00:31.99\00:00:34.13 of a glimpse into what's happening now, 00:00:34.13\00:00:36.87 how the Lord has blessed and is progressing this project. 00:00:36.87\00:00:41.70 Welcome to the show, dear. 00:00:41.70\00:00:43.04 - Hi, darling, how are you? 00:00:43.04\00:00:44.04 - I'm doing fine. 00:00:44.04\00:00:45.44 You know I'm excited about this show 00:00:45.44\00:00:46.78 because it just, it's so good 00:00:46.78\00:00:49.94 to see how things are progressing. 00:00:49.94\00:00:52.78 Sometimes, we don't get to see it. 00:00:52.78\00:00:54.28 We just hear that the work is going forward, 00:00:54.28\00:00:56.82 but to see the progress, 00:00:56.82\00:00:59.55 and to see how the Lord has expanded the ministry 00:00:59.55\00:01:01.99 is such a privilege. 00:01:01.99\00:01:03.46 - Well, every project starts out with a vision, 00:01:03.46\00:01:06.29 and a lot of effort, and a lot of sacrifice, 00:01:06.29\00:01:09.43 and a lot of pain, and it goes forward little by little, 00:01:09.43\00:01:13.13 but after a few years, you start to see the results. 00:01:13.13\00:01:16.14 - Right, and you see how God has expanded the vision, 00:01:16.14\00:01:18.81 or redirected the vision. 00:01:18.81\00:01:20.18 - And you see the lives changed. 00:01:20.18\00:01:22.18 - Right, that's the main thing. 00:01:22.18\00:01:23.58 - Yes, that's the big payoff. 00:01:23.58\00:01:25.08 So today, we're gonna see an amazing miracle story 00:01:25.08\00:01:29.48 in a physical miracle story 00:01:29.48\00:01:31.89 and in the lives of some of our kids over there. 00:01:31.89\00:01:34.76 - Right, right. 00:01:34.76\00:01:36.06 Well, the first video we have today is kind of 00:01:36.06\00:01:38.23 an introduction to what's going on in the ministry now. 00:01:38.23\00:01:41.40 (soft orchestral music) 00:01:42.93\00:01:46.33 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:01:46.33\00:01:51.04 - [Translator] If you ask any Mangyan 00:01:51.04\00:01:52.57 whether they're educated or still wearing a loincloth, 00:01:52.57\00:01:55.71 ask any of them, and you'll hear the same answer. 00:01:55.71\00:01:59.01 All of them are discriminated against. 00:01:59.01\00:02:01.65 - All of them are discriminated. 00:02:01.65\00:02:03.72 (speaks in foreign language) 00:02:03.72\00:02:04.85 - [Translator] They've all been told 00:02:04.85\00:02:06.35 that they're only a little bit higher than the ape. 00:02:06.35\00:02:08.22 (water sprinkles) 00:02:14.00\00:02:15.23 - [Pete] I was before public school teacher. 00:02:15.23\00:02:17.97 - [Translator] I was a public school teacher. 00:02:17.97\00:02:20.37 I quit my job to focus on the mountains. 00:02:20.37\00:02:22.94 (Pete speaks in foreign Language) 00:02:22.94\00:02:27.91 But what can I do? 00:02:27.91\00:02:29.11 Why did I leave teaching? 00:02:29.11\00:02:30.65 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:02:30.65\00:02:32.11 I'm now full time in this effort to teach these natives, 00:02:32.11\00:02:36.55 especially the Mangyan in the mountains. 00:02:36.55\00:02:38.82 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:02:38.82\00:02:42.39 From my perspective, it would be unfair. 00:02:42.39\00:02:45.03 - It would be unfair to give so much privilege 00:02:45.03\00:02:49.70 (speaks in foreign language) 00:02:49.70\00:02:51.23 - [Translator] To give so much privilege to those 00:02:51.23\00:02:52.07 who live on the coast 00:02:52.07\00:02:53.60 while those who are truly in need are the Mangyans 00:02:53.60\00:02:55.87 in the mountains who have never been given any help. 00:02:55.87\00:02:59.01 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:03:15.56\00:03:17.19 - [Translator] Those who benefit 00:03:17.19\00:03:18.23 from our medical evacuation work 00:03:18.23\00:03:20.60 are those who need health assistance. 00:03:20.60\00:03:22.80 We bring patients to the hospital. 00:03:23.97\00:03:27.00 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:03:27.00\00:03:28.17 Before we leave them there, 00:03:28.17\00:03:29.84 we make sure they have food 00:03:29.84\00:03:31.61 and enough money to pay for their medicine. 00:03:31.61\00:03:34.08 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:03:35.28\00:03:37.11 Then we continue visiting them. 00:03:37.11\00:03:39.05 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:03:43.75\00:03:45.02 - [Translator] My wife and I prayed, 00:03:45.02\00:03:47.09 Lord, give us a way to help these natives. 00:03:47.09\00:03:49.69 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:03:50.99\00:03:53.86 - [Pete] And then, less than two weeks after that. 00:03:53.86\00:03:57.43 - [Translator] And then, less than two weeks after that, 00:03:57.43\00:03:59.80 a native came from the mountains, asking for a teacher, 00:03:59.80\00:04:02.94 so that is how this ministry started 00:04:04.07\00:04:05.87 sending teachers to the mountains. 00:04:05.87\00:04:07.71 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:04:07.71\00:04:11.35 We connected with another ministry 00:04:11.35\00:04:13.18 for our volunteer teachers. 00:04:13.18\00:04:14.78 - [Pete] Volunteer teachers, Hasulag, specifically. 00:04:14.78\00:04:17.19 - [Translator] Hasulag specifically. 00:04:17.19\00:04:18.72 They sent two volunteer teachers at first, 00:04:18.72\00:04:20.89 and that's how it started. 00:04:22.06\00:04:23.43 From then until now, we have been working 00:04:25.19\00:04:27.23 for seven years in the mountains. 00:04:27.23\00:04:29.56 In the beginning, the children didn't even know 00:04:29.56\00:04:31.90 how to take a bath or use a toothbrush. 00:04:31.90\00:04:34.34 They knew nothing but to play all day 00:04:34.34\00:04:36.57 and wait for their parents to return 00:04:36.57\00:04:38.41 from foraging in the jungle. 00:04:38.41\00:04:40.34 Now, praise the Lord, most of them are now 00:04:40.34\00:04:43.11 in grade six or seven, and I am grateful to the Lord 00:04:43.11\00:04:47.12 that most of them get the highest grades in their class. 00:04:47.12\00:04:50.49 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:04:50.49\00:04:54.72 After Kimali, other villages learned 00:04:54.72\00:04:56.96 that we could send teachers to them. 00:04:56.96\00:04:59.36 Saramayba followed, then Bayabasan, 00:04:59.36\00:05:01.53 and other villages, on and on. 00:05:01.53\00:05:03.33 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:05:07.54\00:05:09.77 - [Translator] We find they can learn much better 00:05:09.77\00:05:12.47 since we started the free lunch program. 00:05:12.47\00:05:14.78 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:05:14.78\00:05:16.88 Now they can concentrate on the lessons. 00:05:16.88\00:05:19.38 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:05:19.38\00:05:24.39 It's not just the free lunch food in every school, 00:05:25.75\00:05:28.69 it's not just the hospitalization, 00:05:28.69\00:05:31.49 and how we bring them there and help them with their needs. 00:05:31.49\00:05:35.03 It includes their coming to our house. 00:05:35.03\00:05:37.30 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:05:38.50\00:05:40.70 - 19 villages under our care. 00:05:40.70\00:05:45.07 - [Translator] There are so many of them. 00:05:46.71\00:05:48.51 Every now and then, somebody comes knocking, 00:05:48.51\00:05:51.11 often in the early morning. 00:05:51.11\00:05:53.18 Ma'am, there is hunger in the mountains. 00:05:53.18\00:05:55.35 They stop by here because we always feed them. 00:05:56.72\00:05:59.25 It would be nice 00:05:59.25\00:06:00.52 if every group was only two to three people. 00:06:00.52\00:06:03.22 Sometimes, there are more than 10 of them, 00:06:03.22\00:06:06.03 especially groups that have walked 00:06:06.03\00:06:07.66 for two days just to get here, 00:06:07.66\00:06:10.30 and there's a lot of them. 00:06:10.30\00:06:11.60 - That's such a cool thing to see, 00:06:20.28\00:06:21.98 that, after these years, these kids 00:06:21.98\00:06:24.08 that were considered, you know, hopeless, 00:06:24.08\00:06:27.98 unintelligent, unable to learn. 00:06:27.98\00:06:30.09 - They were filthy children, unhealthy children. 00:06:30.09\00:06:32.49 - They could hardly concentrate 00:06:33.66\00:06:35.22 'cause they were so hungry all day long, 00:06:35.22\00:06:37.29 and now, the kids that have gone 00:06:37.29\00:06:39.49 into the public school system are getting 00:06:39.49\00:06:42.10 the best grades in the class. 00:06:42.10\00:06:43.37 - I know, that's really awesome. 00:06:43.37\00:06:45.47 That's really, really, really awesome. 00:06:45.47\00:06:48.17 - Oh, yeah, it makes everything worthwhile, 00:06:48.17\00:06:50.41 because it shows that these are, you know, 00:06:50.41\00:06:53.01 all men are created equal, 00:06:53.01\00:06:55.04 it shows that to be really true, 00:06:55.04\00:06:57.18 that God loves these people, 00:06:57.18\00:06:58.78 and they just haven't had the advantages, 00:06:58.78\00:07:01.32 a mindset, or a religion, or a way of thinking 00:07:01.32\00:07:04.72 has held them back from doing 00:07:04.72\00:07:07.66 and being all that they could be in Christ. 00:07:07.66\00:07:10.83 - Right, right. 00:07:10.83\00:07:12.26 - And we're gonna see a little video 00:07:12.26\00:07:13.83 about one of these kids, 00:07:13.83\00:07:15.43 and how she's doing. 00:07:16.56\00:07:18.40 - In a little bit. 00:07:18.40\00:07:19.23 - Yes. 00:07:19.23\00:07:20.44 - But first, we have another video, 00:07:20.44\00:07:21.70 and this is from a little while ago, 00:07:21.70\00:07:23.07 showing and describing 00:07:23.07\00:07:24.74 what it was like before for the children. 00:07:24.74\00:07:26.64 - That's right. 00:07:26.64\00:07:27.91 You know, we don't really understand, 00:07:27.91\00:07:29.38 I mean, if we say, well, I'm hungry, 00:07:29.38\00:07:30.95 that means that, you know, 00:07:30.95\00:07:33.11 I've been an extra 20 minutes 00:07:33.11\00:07:34.72 or half hour, an hour, you know, 00:07:34.72\00:07:36.52 since my regular lunch. 00:07:36.52\00:07:38.02 - It's been five hours since I've eaten, or six hours. 00:07:38.02\00:07:40.59 - Yeah, but these kids, 00:07:40.59\00:07:41.92 their parents leave early in the morning 00:07:43.12\00:07:44.69 to go foraging in the forest, 00:07:44.69\00:07:46.83 and the kids have no food all day, 00:07:46.83\00:07:48.63 just waiting for their parents 00:07:49.60\00:07:50.87 to get home in the evening, 00:07:50.87\00:07:52.10 hoping that they'd found something, 00:07:52.10\00:07:53.70 and so this describes what these kids are like 00:07:53.70\00:07:55.77 when they're trying to study in school with no food. 00:07:55.77\00:07:59.41 - Okay. 00:08:00.31\00:08:01.78 (lively orchestral music) 00:08:01.78\00:08:05.25 (Alexia speaks in foreign language) 00:08:05.25\00:08:09.32 - [Translator] Their parents don't grow anything 00:08:09.32\00:08:11.45 because they fear many spirits, 00:08:11.45\00:08:13.62 so they don't make permanent gardens, 00:08:13.62\00:08:15.39 and so the kids are undernourished. 00:08:15.39\00:08:17.63 Often, all they can think about is food. 00:08:17.63\00:08:20.06 They can't concentrate. 00:08:20.06\00:08:21.86 The thing about them is 00:08:21.86\00:08:23.10 that you will never hear them complain 00:08:23.10\00:08:24.80 or murmur about being hungry. 00:08:24.80\00:08:26.84 Instead, you will notice their behavior. 00:08:26.84\00:08:29.27 While the morning class is in session, 00:08:29.27\00:08:31.01 they will often ask, ma'am, what time is it? 00:08:31.01\00:08:34.48 Then, after a few minutes, 00:08:34.48\00:08:35.71 they would ask the same question again. 00:08:35.71\00:08:38.31 They would have no breakfast, but drink lots of water 00:08:38.31\00:08:41.48 to stave off the hunger pains. 00:08:41.48\00:08:43.82 They go to the faucet outside 00:08:43.82\00:08:45.39 and drink water every now and then. 00:08:45.39\00:08:47.12 The children see lots of plants 00:08:49.12\00:08:50.93 on their way to school, and they eat the leaves. 00:08:50.93\00:08:54.23 They will first try to touch and feel the leaves, 00:08:54.23\00:08:57.27 and then taste them. 00:08:57.27\00:08:58.63 If it tastes bad, they spit it out, 00:08:58.63\00:09:01.34 but if it's tasteless, they will just swallow it. 00:09:01.34\00:09:04.67 This is what happens when the children have nothing to eat. 00:09:04.67\00:09:07.61 Extreme hunger causes severe headaches, 00:09:09.38\00:09:11.91 and you will usually see them hitting their heads. 00:09:11.91\00:09:14.62 (Alexia speaks in foreign language) 00:09:14.62\00:09:18.32 They're always looking around 00:09:18.32\00:09:19.52 to find something to eat. 00:09:19.52\00:09:22.22 - So it's really neat to see, after all these years, 00:09:27.40\00:09:30.03 how the kids start improving, 00:09:30.03\00:09:32.77 but it's so sad to remember what it was like, 00:09:32.77\00:09:35.54 and how hard their life was, and the headaches. 00:09:35.54\00:09:38.57 - And the death of the children. 00:09:39.74\00:09:41.24 There's quite a number of kids 00:09:41.24\00:09:42.54 that would die every year 00:09:42.54\00:09:43.81 from complications of malnutrition, 00:09:43.81\00:09:46.72 and now, that's gone. 00:09:46.72\00:09:48.65 - And one of the scary things is 00:09:48.65\00:09:50.25 that they'll go taste a leaf, or a plant, piece of plant, 00:09:50.25\00:09:55.26 and see if it tastes anything bitter or whatever. 00:09:56.59\00:09:58.86 If it's bitter, they'll spit it out, 00:09:58.86\00:10:00.23 but if it has no taste, then they'll eat it. 00:10:00.23\00:10:02.83 It's like, what are they eating? 00:10:02.83\00:10:05.03 - Well, I know a friend, her father, 00:10:05.03\00:10:09.57 she's seen him so hungry, she's seen him go out 00:10:10.97\00:10:12.91 in the backyard and eat dirt 00:10:12.91\00:10:14.38 just to fill his stomach with something, 00:10:14.38\00:10:17.45 and so, you know, this extreme hunger is real 00:10:17.45\00:10:20.65 in a lot of parts of the world, 00:10:20.65\00:10:22.45 and it's a privilege and an honor 00:10:22.45\00:10:23.99 to be able to serve that and to. 00:10:23.99\00:10:27.32 - Help them with food. 00:10:27.32\00:10:28.99 - Yeah. 00:10:28.99\00:10:29.82 (laughs) 00:10:29.82\00:10:31.03 - Yeah, what a blessing. - And then see them 00:10:31.03\00:10:32.36 do so well because of that. 00:10:32.36\00:10:34.73 - Right, and speaking of doing well, 00:10:34.73\00:10:36.63 that's our next video. 00:10:36.63\00:10:38.13 Our next video, we go to, we call it graduation, 00:10:38.13\00:10:41.74 they called it, I think, a recognition, 00:10:41.74\00:10:44.01 and it's a recognition of how well they've done 00:10:44.01\00:10:46.31 in the current grade level, 00:10:46.31\00:10:47.88 and that they're going to the next one. 00:10:47.88\00:10:49.78 - Yeah, and I want to point out 00:10:49.78\00:10:51.01 that the teacher that you'll see talking 00:10:51.01\00:10:53.68 about this recognition is the same young lady 00:10:53.68\00:10:57.45 that was in a previous show 00:10:57.45\00:10:59.19 where she was talking about the faceless man, okay? 00:10:59.19\00:11:02.76 So this is that village, 00:11:02.76\00:11:04.36 and this is after that experience that she had. 00:11:04.36\00:11:07.13 It's just really awesome 00:11:08.36\00:11:09.60 because you'll see some of the people, 00:11:09.60\00:11:12.10 the parents of the children, how much they appreciate this. 00:11:12.10\00:11:15.27 - Okay. 00:11:15.27\00:11:16.10 (soft orchestral music) 00:11:17.44\00:11:20.78 (people chatter) 00:11:37.13\00:11:39.89 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:11:43.16\00:11:44.73 - [Translator] Kamambugan is about a 30 minute hike 00:11:44.73\00:11:46.47 from the highway. 00:11:46.47\00:11:48.00 No one has gone to high school from this village, 00:11:48.00\00:11:49.90 even though it's close. 00:11:49.90\00:11:51.44 That is why they're happy to have a school recognition day, 00:11:51.44\00:11:55.01 because these students will just play 00:11:55.01\00:11:57.05 even when attending public school. 00:11:57.05\00:11:59.01 (Krezzia speaks in foreign language) 00:12:03.92\00:12:05.45 - [Translator] You can see the happiness 00:12:05.45\00:12:06.69 in the faces of the youth and the parents 00:12:06.69\00:12:08.72 because it is their first time to see 00:12:08.72\00:12:10.46 or experience this kind of program, 00:12:10.46\00:12:12.19 a program that inspires them 00:12:15.70\00:12:17.20 and teaches them the value of education. 00:12:17.20\00:12:19.20 - [Translator] Earlier, I was having a conversation 00:12:23.91\00:12:25.87 with the village elders, and they are thrilled 00:12:25.87\00:12:28.21 that, for the first time in their entire lives, 00:12:28.21\00:12:31.18 they get to witness a recognition program 00:12:31.18\00:12:33.52 with their children as the lead characters. 00:12:33.52\00:12:36.05 (woman speaks in foreign language) 00:12:47.30\00:12:48.70 - [Translator] I was happy when I heard 00:12:48.70\00:12:49.93 that there will be real teachers coming. 00:12:49.93\00:12:52.20 (woman speaks in foreign language) 00:12:52.20\00:12:56.10 Finally, my children can go to school 00:12:56.10\00:12:57.91 instead of just playing all day. 00:12:57.91\00:12:59.47 (woman speaks in foreign language) 00:13:02.88\00:13:06.98 I can't help but cry knowing 00:13:06.98\00:13:08.48 that my child will finally have a chance to learn. 00:13:08.48\00:13:11.12 If it were up to me, 00:13:15.72\00:13:16.99 I hope they will be able to continue. 00:13:16.99\00:13:18.86 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:13:25.20\00:13:28.00 - [Translator] Our dream is to not just teach them to read, 00:13:28.00\00:13:30.77 but to produce professionals 00:13:30.77\00:13:32.27 that would go back to their villages 00:13:32.27\00:13:34.41 and become missionary teachers 00:13:34.41\00:13:36.38 that would benefit their own tribes 00:13:36.38\00:13:38.28 and the rest of the Mangyan people. 00:13:38.28\00:13:40.78 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:13:40.78\00:13:44.39 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:13:44.39\00:13:48.56 (Krezzia speaks in foreign language) 00:13:49.76\00:13:52.09 - [Translator] They're a continued presence 00:13:52.09\00:13:53.23 here in this village. 00:13:53.23\00:13:54.46 They are gradually learning about God. 00:13:54.46\00:13:56.40 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:13:58.10\00:13:59.33 - [Translator] We still need volunteers. 00:13:59.33\00:14:00.80 We need people that will sacrifice 00:14:00.80\00:14:03.07 for these native groups. 00:14:03.07\00:14:04.54 - Wow, that's really beautiful. 00:14:30.90\00:14:32.60 - Yeah, just simple people, one little village, 00:14:32.60\00:14:36.60 the world has passed them by. 00:14:36.60\00:14:37.91 Nobody would notice them, 00:14:37.91\00:14:39.81 but the heart of the father in heaven inspires the hearts 00:14:39.81\00:14:44.11 of his children that know him, that go out, 00:14:44.11\00:14:47.35 and go out of their way 00:14:47.35\00:14:49.68 to make a difference in their lives. 00:14:49.68\00:14:51.35 - Right, and the mother's happiness is just beautiful. 00:14:51.35\00:14:55.59 - It really is, and I know 00:14:55.59\00:14:57.09 that makes the heart of the father happy also. 00:14:57.09\00:14:59.23 - Yes, yes. 00:14:59.23\00:15:00.30 The next video that we have is the story 00:15:01.46\00:15:03.47 of one of the young people 00:15:03.47\00:15:04.80 that came up through the school, 00:15:04.80\00:15:07.50 and then is now in a public school. 00:15:07.50\00:15:09.80 - Yeah, so she's from the original village 00:15:09.80\00:15:12.11 that we started in, Kimali, 00:15:12.11\00:15:13.78 that we visited, that you and I walked to and almost died. 00:15:13.78\00:15:17.28 - Yeah, well, we felt like we were, 00:15:17.28\00:15:19.78 but we survived, it was very hot. 00:15:19.78\00:15:22.18 - It was an awesome experience though. 00:15:22.18\00:15:23.99 - Yeah, so this is neat. 00:15:23.99\00:15:25.32 This is the next step for her 00:15:25.32\00:15:27.29 when she came down out of the mountains 00:15:27.29\00:15:28.99 to go to the next grade level 00:15:28.99\00:15:31.33 beyond where they teach in the mountains. 00:15:31.33\00:15:33.76 - Yeah, and so she's actually living 00:15:33.76\00:15:35.06 with Pete and Jessica to go to that school. 00:15:35.06\00:15:38.03 - Right, right, so here's the video. 00:15:38.03\00:15:41.40 (soft orchestral music) 00:15:41.40\00:15:44.74 (Carmita speaks in foreign language) 00:15:46.44\00:15:48.34 - [Translator] If I had not been sponsored 00:15:48.34\00:15:49.74 to go to high school, 00:15:49.74\00:15:51.28 maybe now, I would just be another ignorant Mangyan, 00:15:51.28\00:15:54.88 always afraid of our Tagalog visitors. 00:15:54.88\00:15:57.89 (Carmita speaks in foreign language) 00:15:57.89\00:16:01.36 I feel indifferent about our way of dress, 00:16:01.36\00:16:03.59 being barefoot all the time, 00:16:03.59\00:16:05.59 and shaking when we talk to the Tagalogs 00:16:05.59\00:16:07.86 because we don't know anything. 00:16:07.86\00:16:09.36 (Carmita speaks in foreign language) 00:16:09.36\00:16:13.80 - [Pete] Our daughter, Kay. 00:16:23.48\00:16:24.91 - [Translator] Our daughter Kay was the first one 00:16:24.91\00:16:26.75 to befriend Carmita. 00:16:26.75\00:16:28.08 The first time I saw Carmita, 00:16:30.79\00:16:32.72 I thought she was mentally retarded 00:16:32.72\00:16:35.19 because of the way she behaved. 00:16:35.19\00:16:37.33 - She behaved (speaks in foreign language) 00:16:37.33\00:16:41.66 - [Translator] She stared at everything in the house. 00:16:41.66\00:16:44.50 It made me wonder what kind of character she has. 00:16:44.50\00:16:47.00 Then I realized that she just 00:16:47.87\00:16:49.50 never had seen any of these things. 00:16:49.50\00:16:52.21 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:16:52.21\00:16:53.51 She had never been in a modern house. 00:16:53.51\00:16:55.81 - Civilized home. 00:16:55.81\00:16:58.28 Almost three years ago. 00:17:00.52\00:17:01.78 - [Translator] That was almost three years ago. 00:17:01.78\00:17:03.39 - [Pete] Look at her now. 00:17:03.39\00:17:04.62 - [Translator] And look at her now. 00:17:04.62\00:17:06.02 She is trusted by the teacher. 00:17:06.02\00:17:07.76 She is one of the most faithful readers 00:17:08.89\00:17:10.23 when it comes to the Bible. 00:17:10.23\00:17:11.76 She's always bringing her Bible to school with her. 00:17:11.76\00:17:14.40 At first, we thought that Carmita was a hopeless child. 00:17:14.40\00:17:17.53 - Hopeless. 00:17:17.53\00:17:18.73 - [Translator] But she is strong evidence 00:17:18.73\00:17:19.93 that Mangyan children are not hopeless. 00:17:19.93\00:17:22.60 - Mangyan children are not hopeless people. 00:17:22.60\00:17:26.71 (Carmita speaks in foreign language) 00:17:29.54\00:17:32.61 - [Translator] Some of my friends are already married 00:17:32.61\00:17:34.28 and have their own children. 00:17:34.28\00:17:35.92 Some are pregnant without husbands. 00:17:38.45\00:17:41.09 (Carmita speaks in foreign language) 00:17:41.09\00:17:44.59 Most of them tell me, you're lucky you're not yet married. 00:17:44.59\00:17:48.63 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:17:51.23\00:17:54.67 - [Translator] Carmita is a lesson 00:17:54.67\00:17:56.07 that we want to show to the village of Canron 00:17:56.07\00:17:58.74 and nearby villages that their children can learn like her. 00:17:58.74\00:18:02.88 - [Pete] By God's grace. 00:18:02.88\00:18:04.38 - [Translator] By the grace of God, 00:18:04.38\00:18:05.51 we continue to support her. 00:18:05.51\00:18:07.88 It's our joy to see when people change 00:18:07.88\00:18:10.45 because of the sacrifices that we make. 00:18:10.45\00:18:13.59 - All of us, you. 00:18:13.59\00:18:15.29 (speaks in foreign language) 00:18:17.99\00:18:19.49 - [Translator] To those who have been watching our videos, 00:18:19.49\00:18:20.90 and to those who keep on praying 00:18:20.90\00:18:22.50 and supporting this ministry, 00:18:22.50\00:18:24.90 let us continue to change lives just like Carmita, 00:18:24.90\00:18:29.14 because she is just one of the many Mangyans 00:18:29.14\00:18:32.04 that have been reached. 00:18:32.04\00:18:33.44 - Isn't that beautiful? 00:18:49.52\00:18:51.53 - Yeah, just to think about where her life would be 00:18:51.53\00:18:56.50 without these schools. 00:18:57.23\00:18:58.50 I mean, she said her friends are married 00:18:58.50\00:19:00.37 and husbandless, basically, and pregnant. 00:19:01.57\00:19:05.74 - Two or three children by now. 00:19:05.74\00:19:07.11 Yeah, so the contrast 00:19:07.11\00:19:09.11 between what her life could've been, 00:19:09.11\00:19:10.95 and what her life is now, 00:19:10.95\00:19:12.65 and what benefit she could be to her tribes back home 00:19:12.65\00:19:16.48 with the education that she's getting, it's just inspiring. 00:19:16.48\00:19:19.52 - Right. 00:19:19.52\00:19:20.72 You know, Pete said there that she was like, 00:19:20.72\00:19:24.53 she had no brain. 00:19:24.53\00:19:25.93 It was like she was just looking around the house, like. 00:19:25.93\00:19:30.67 - What is everything? 00:19:31.40\00:19:32.50 What is this? 00:19:32.50\00:19:33.34 How do they live? 00:19:33.34\00:19:34.47 - I think it's really key to realize 00:19:34.47\00:19:36.44 what a difference education makes. 00:19:36.44\00:19:38.57 You know, people that we think, 00:19:38.57\00:19:40.41 I mean, he thought she was stupid at the beginning, 00:19:40.41\00:19:42.68 he thought she was incapable of learning, 00:19:42.68\00:19:46.28 but that's not true. 00:19:46.28\00:19:47.98 Now, she's one of those ones 00:19:47.98\00:19:49.25 that's at the top of the class, 00:19:49.25\00:19:50.79 so that's really a God thing. 00:19:51.89\00:19:55.12 - Yes, it's very special, 00:19:55.12\00:19:57.39 and it's a privilege to be able to support a ministry 00:19:57.39\00:19:59.66 that does that graphic a change, 00:19:59.66\00:20:02.50 an impact in people's lives. 00:20:02.50\00:20:03.97 - Yeah, that's true. 00:20:03.97\00:20:05.20 - So this next video is just a little bit more 00:20:05.20\00:20:06.94 of a summary of the ministry 00:20:06.94\00:20:09.34 to give you an overview of what's happening, 00:20:09.34\00:20:11.57 and it's kind of a joyful, kind of a reason 00:20:11.57\00:20:15.88 why they do what they do. 00:20:15.88\00:20:18.18 - Okay. 00:20:18.18\00:20:19.01 (soft orchestral music) 00:20:20.05\00:20:21.88 (woman sings in foreign language) 00:20:21.88\00:20:24.25 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:20:24.25\00:20:25.52 - [Translator] While in the eyes of many, 00:20:25.52\00:20:26.79 they are little better than monkeys or apes, 00:20:26.79\00:20:29.06 I believe their case is not hopeless. 00:20:29.06\00:20:32.39 Now, they have aspirations. 00:20:32.39\00:20:34.46 Some of them see a higher calling 00:20:34.46\00:20:36.83 in learning to read and write 00:20:36.83\00:20:38.40 instead of marrying at 13 or 14 years of age. 00:20:38.40\00:20:41.90 They want to study and have dreams. 00:20:41.90\00:20:44.51 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:20:44.51\00:20:47.84 - [Jessica] It's really heartbreaking 00:20:47.84\00:20:49.81 that they are hopeless 00:20:49.81\00:20:51.08 unless someone has the heart to help them. 00:20:51.08\00:20:53.58 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:20:53.58\00:20:57.45 They will just barely survive 00:20:57.45\00:20:59.29 until their last breath leaves them. 00:20:59.29\00:21:01.82 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:21:03.06\00:21:07.50 But since we have a lot for these people, they see hope. 00:21:07.50\00:21:11.50 (Jessica speaks in foreign language) 00:21:11.50\00:21:16.50 And their life is made better by the grace of God. 00:21:17.87\00:21:19.67 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:21:21.14\00:21:23.24 - [Translator] That is why we have schools 00:21:49.57\00:21:51.31 in their places and choose to stay with them. 00:21:51.31\00:21:54.68 We endure many things 00:21:54.68\00:21:56.01 and overlook the difficult parts 00:21:56.01\00:21:58.21 just to be with them, 00:21:58.21\00:22:00.12 to be able to change their perspective in life 00:22:00.12\00:22:03.18 and help them see that God has wonderful things 00:22:03.18\00:22:06.39 in store for them. 00:22:06.39\00:22:07.56 Their life should not just be the way it is 00:22:10.83\00:22:13.93 and always has been. 00:22:13.93\00:22:15.43 (Pete speaks in foreign language) 00:22:17.73\00:22:18.97 - [Translator] We want those who help here 00:22:18.97\00:22:20.44 to really make sacrifices so that they will see 00:22:20.44\00:22:23.37 that true joy comes from serving others, 00:22:23.37\00:22:26.37 not in costly clothes, or touring around the world. 00:22:26.37\00:22:30.08 You will only find it when you see somebody needing help, 00:22:30.08\00:22:33.52 and then you help them, and it changes their lives. 00:22:33.52\00:22:36.72 - There's a higher joy and peace in it. 00:22:36.72\00:22:38.32 - [Translator] There's a higher joy 00:22:38.32\00:22:39.85 and a peace in doing that. 00:22:39.85\00:22:41.76 - I love what he said there, you know, 00:22:55.84\00:22:58.17 that seeing someone needing help, 00:22:58.17\00:23:02.34 and then helping them is a higher joy and peace. 00:23:02.34\00:23:06.15 I love that. 00:23:06.15\00:23:07.65 - Yes, and this is what's such a beautiful thing, 00:23:07.65\00:23:09.08 is that missionaries first went 00:23:09.08\00:23:11.02 to the Philippines a long time ago, 00:23:11.02\00:23:13.39 and now, they are getting the identity 00:23:13.39\00:23:16.16 of being missionaries, and they're tasting that joy, 00:23:16.16\00:23:19.66 and that blessing that only comes from mission work. 00:23:19.66\00:23:23.26 Christ's way. 00:23:24.27\00:23:25.83 - Right, right, of course, 00:23:25.83\00:23:27.54 and you know, this brings out a point 00:23:27.54\00:23:29.30 that we say over and over again, 00:23:29.30\00:23:30.94 and that is, wherever you are, you are a missionary. 00:23:30.94\00:23:34.81 When you believe in Christ, 00:23:34.81\00:23:36.78 Christ was a missionary, and when we want to be like Jesus, 00:23:36.78\00:23:40.95 then we will identify ourselves as missionaries. 00:23:40.95\00:23:44.49 Wherever we are, wherever God has put us, 00:23:44.49\00:23:48.06 wherever he's given us the privilege to grow up, 00:23:48.06\00:23:50.19 we start there as missionaries. 00:23:50.19\00:23:52.29 Sometimes, he sends us to another land, 00:23:52.29\00:23:54.50 or he sends us to another place 00:23:54.50\00:23:56.03 in our own land as missionaries. 00:23:56.03\00:23:58.57 - Yes, and sometimes, we look for that sending, 00:23:58.57\00:24:02.80 you know, we say, well, if God sends me, then I'll go, 00:24:02.80\00:24:06.07 but the truth is that he's already sent us. 00:24:06.07\00:24:10.35 He's already given us the word, 00:24:10.35\00:24:11.95 and it's a call for obedience. 00:24:11.95\00:24:14.15 A lot of times, we sit there waiting for something, 00:24:15.52\00:24:18.09 for a word from God, when he's already given it to us. 00:24:18.09\00:24:21.59 These people are finding that, you know, 00:24:21.59\00:24:23.89 they have to go up into the mountains, 00:24:23.89\00:24:26.26 and sometimes, it's harder to go across the mountain 00:24:26.26\00:24:29.76 than it is to go around the world. 00:24:29.76\00:24:32.17 Sometimes, that's a more difficult thing to do 00:24:33.40\00:24:36.44 because it's so easy just to relax at home. 00:24:36.44\00:24:39.14 I found a huge blessing in going overseas 00:24:40.28\00:24:42.21 because, when I go, there's a big commitment to go, 00:24:42.21\00:24:45.65 and then, when I get there, 00:24:45.65\00:24:46.88 I identify myself as a missionary, 00:24:46.88\00:24:49.58 whereas I tend to fall into, you know, when I'm at home, 00:24:49.58\00:24:53.79 kind of a normality, 00:24:53.79\00:24:55.42 taking care of myself. - I'm at home. 00:24:55.42\00:24:56.89 I can relax. 00:24:56.89\00:24:57.73 - Just doing my thing. 00:24:57.73\00:24:58.83 - [Natalie] Be comfortable. 00:24:58.83\00:24:59.96 - Mm-hm, and so there's a huge blessing 00:24:59.96\00:25:02.33 for the church in going, changing our physical location, 00:25:02.33\00:25:07.34 and finding where the need is the greatest, 00:25:08.64\00:25:11.01 and filling that need, 00:25:11.01\00:25:12.44 because where the need is the greatest 00:25:12.44\00:25:13.91 is where the holy spirit is the strongest, 00:25:13.91\00:25:17.08 and you can see the greatest evidence of his work. 00:25:17.08\00:25:19.81 - At the beginning of this episode, 00:25:20.98\00:25:22.42 we saw, when they were taking people to the hospital, 00:25:22.42\00:25:24.72 they had a van that they were using, 00:25:24.72\00:25:26.92 and then, later, when they were going to the village, 00:25:26.92\00:25:28.42 they had a truck that they were using. 00:25:28.42\00:25:29.86 We rode in that truck when we went up there, 00:25:29.86\00:25:32.26 but both of those vehicles are a present broken down. 00:25:32.26\00:25:35.83 - They're dead, completely. 00:25:35.83\00:25:37.57 - They need new vehicles. 00:25:37.57\00:25:38.80 They're riding bicycles right now, 00:25:38.80\00:25:40.70 which doesn't help with transporting rice, 00:25:40.70\00:25:43.67 and it doesn't help with transporting people. 00:25:43.67\00:25:46.34 - To the hospital. 00:25:46.34\00:25:47.54 - To the hospital, or to the base 00:25:47.54\00:25:49.54 of the mountains where they can hike back in 00:25:49.54\00:25:51.38 with the vegetables and rice 00:25:51.38\00:25:53.75 for the children's ministry. - Children's meals, sure. 00:25:53.75\00:25:56.38 - So we need to provide them a new vehicle. 00:25:56.38\00:26:00.09 - A new vehicle is about $18,000, 00:26:00.09\00:26:02.96 and so, if they put a down payment 00:26:02.96\00:26:06.26 and then pay the rest off over five years, 00:26:06.26\00:26:08.20 it'll end up costing $22,000, 00:26:08.20\00:26:10.70 so I don't see the reason 00:26:10.70\00:26:12.20 why we should spend another $4,000 in interest alone. 00:26:12.20\00:26:15.94 - Right. 00:26:15.94\00:26:17.44 - So if we can just get them that $18,000 vehicle, 00:26:17.44\00:26:19.57 that's gonna allow them to transport people, 00:26:20.71\00:26:22.58 transport the food, and missionaries, 00:26:22.58\00:26:25.21 and medical needs, and things like that. 00:26:25.21\00:26:27.72 You saw the human ambulance. 00:26:27.72\00:26:29.95 You know, this vehicle's not gonna be able 00:26:29.95\00:26:31.55 to go up into the mountains like that. 00:26:31.55\00:26:33.46 - But, once they get to the base of the mountains, 00:26:34.89\00:26:36.96 that's how they take them on to the hospital from there. 00:26:36.96\00:26:39.29 - That's correct, yeah. 00:26:39.29\00:26:41.46 - What a blessing it is to be able 00:26:41.46\00:26:43.57 to partner with them, and be a tool for God to use 00:26:43.57\00:26:48.57 to facilitate their ministry there. 00:26:49.70\00:26:50.94 - This is one of those seed planting ministries 00:26:50.94\00:26:53.58 where we here in America, 00:26:53.58\00:26:55.31 or in the western world, can plant a seed, 00:26:55.31\00:26:59.25 and we won't see the fruit until the second coming, 00:26:59.25\00:27:03.35 but when we see that fruit. 00:27:03.35\00:27:05.25 - [Natalie] That will be awesome. 00:27:05.25\00:27:06.22 - Yeah. 00:27:06.22\00:27:07.06 - That will be awesome. 00:27:07.06\00:27:07.99 - Can you imagine the look 00:27:07.99\00:27:09.12 on some of these little Mangyan children 00:27:09.12\00:27:11.79 when they walk into heaven? 00:27:11.79\00:27:13.63 - No. 00:27:13.63\00:27:14.83 - And they see such a clean beauty? 00:27:14.83\00:27:16.30 - Beautiful, beautiful place. 00:27:16.30\00:27:18.27 - And to see Jesus put a crown on their head, 00:27:18.27\00:27:21.90 that's gonna be amazing. 00:27:21.90\00:27:24.34 - It makes your heart full. 00:27:24.34\00:27:25.81 - Yes, even now. 00:27:25.81\00:27:28.48 - Right. 00:27:28.48\00:27:29.71 I invite you to pray for this ministry, 00:27:29.71\00:27:31.48 that they'll have the vehicle that they need, 00:27:31.48\00:27:33.68 and that this ministry 00:27:33.68\00:27:35.08 that makes such a huge difference 00:27:35.08\00:27:37.22 in the lives of these simple people would continue 00:27:37.22\00:27:39.82 to go forward, and blossom, 00:27:39.82\00:27:41.79 and become everything God needs it to be. 00:27:41.79\00:27:44.89 If you would like to be involved, 00:27:44.89\00:27:46.46 please contact us at Jesus For Asia, 00:27:46.46\00:27:48.90 PO Box 1221, Collegedale, Tennessee, 37315. 00:27:48.90\00:27:53.03 Call us at (423) 413-7321, 00:27:54.87\00:27:59.24 or visit our website at jesus4asia.org. 00:27:59.24\00:28:03.14 May God richly bless you 00:28:03.14\00:28:04.98 until we see you next time on "Jesus For Asia Now." 00:28:04.98\00:28:08.12 (dramatic orchestral music) 00:28:08.12\00:28:11.79
