(swelling inspirational music) 00:00:00.86\00:00:04.70 - Hello, and welcome to "Jesus for Asia Now." 00:00:22.08\00:00:24.59 I'm Natalie Wood, and my husband Jon is with me today. 00:00:24.59\00:00:27.52 We are going to meet some very interesting people. 00:00:27.52\00:00:30.59 Hi, love. 00:00:30.59\00:00:31.53 - Hi, darling, how are you? 00:00:31.53\00:00:32.59 - I'm doing good. 00:00:32.59\00:00:33.56 You know, I'm looking forward 00:00:33.56\00:00:35.03 to meeting the young people we're gonna meet today. 00:00:35.03\00:00:36.67 - Yeah, it's a very interesting story that we have. 00:00:36.67\00:00:39.73 - Yeah. 00:00:39.73\00:00:41.27 - It's kind of more of the behind-the-scenes story. 00:00:41.27\00:00:43.54 We talk a lot about mission projects 00:00:43.54\00:00:47.54 and results and exciting stories, 00:00:47.54\00:00:50.31 miracle stories, and stuff like that. 00:00:50.31\00:00:51.98 But this is more like behind-the-scenes of how it gets 00:00:51.98\00:00:55.02 done and the experiences of people that do this work. 00:00:55.02\00:00:58.25 - Now, the missionaries that we're gonna meet today, 00:00:58.25\00:01:00.89 are they from America? 00:01:00.89\00:01:02.22 - Nope. 00:01:02.22\00:01:03.06 - Where are they from? 00:01:03.06\00:01:04.09 - They are Filipino. 00:01:04.09\00:01:05.76 - So, they're native there? 00:01:05.76\00:01:08.00 - Yeah, well, in the Philippines, there's 7000 00:01:08.00\00:01:13.00 islands. Not all of them are inhabited. 00:01:15.20\00:01:17.04 But within those inhabited islands, 00:01:17.04\00:01:19.57 there's a lot of different languages. 00:01:19.57\00:01:21.51 So, even though they're staying 00:01:21.51\00:01:23.35 in their country to be missionaries, 00:01:23.35\00:01:26.11 at least the ones that we're talking about today. 00:01:26.11\00:01:28.32 Some of our shows, 00:01:28.32\00:01:29.78 they're going to other countries like Bangladesh. 00:01:29.78\00:01:32.02 But even going up into the mountains 00:01:32.02\00:01:35.16 in Mindoro to the Mangyans, that's really cross-cultural. 00:01:35.16\00:01:40.20 - So, it's a different language 00:01:40.20\00:01:41.93 that they're not familiar with. 00:01:41.93\00:01:43.16 - Different language, different beliefs, 00:01:43.16\00:01:45.00 different social structures, different everything. 00:01:45.00\00:01:48.44 - I mean, the circumstances of life for them at their homes 00:01:48.44\00:01:53.41 where they grew up compared to what they live in 00:01:53.41\00:01:57.01 in the mountains is very, very different. 00:01:57.01\00:01:59.45 - The Filipino culture 00:01:59.45\00:02:00.75 is heavily influenced by Christianity. 00:02:00.75\00:02:04.79 About 90% of the country, 00:02:04.79\00:02:07.46 of the population, is Roman Catholic. 00:02:07.46\00:02:10.63 And we have almost as many (mumbles) 00:02:10.63\00:02:12.06 in the Philippines as we have in North America. 00:02:12.06\00:02:14.36 - Okay, that's a lot. 00:02:14.36\00:02:16.10 - That's a lot, so they understand a lot more 00:02:16.10\00:02:20.30 about Christianity than a lot of Asian countries do. 00:02:20.30\00:02:23.14 - The ministry we're talking about here 00:02:23.14\00:02:25.21 is called Mindoro Outreach. 00:02:25.21\00:02:27.54 And they've been doing ministry for nine years, 00:02:27.54\00:02:30.48 but the Lord is adding to it. 00:02:30.48\00:02:32.01 They started out just doing education, 00:02:32.01\00:02:33.95 and then it became a religious training. 00:02:33.95\00:02:37.15 The people started seeing the difference 00:02:38.29\00:02:39.72 in the lives of the missionary from their own lives. 00:02:39.72\00:02:42.89 - Well, originally the village leaders told them 00:02:42.89\00:02:45.16 not to teach the religion. 00:02:45.16\00:02:47.83 They could teach secular education, but no religion. 00:02:47.83\00:02:51.53 But when the teachers went in there, 00:02:51.53\00:02:53.97 they just lived their life. 00:02:54.94\00:02:56.87 And the kids and the adults 00:02:56.87\00:02:58.81 saw that they were living without fear. 00:02:58.81\00:03:00.91 There's some amazing miracle stories that took place there. 00:03:02.34\00:03:05.01 But the kids and a lot of the leaders 00:03:05.01\00:03:07.58 decided they wanted that religion also. 00:03:07.58\00:03:11.55 And so it's grown from there. 00:03:11.55\00:03:13.62 But the way they do their outreach 00:03:13.62\00:03:15.16 is they've got five or six villages and more. 00:03:15.16\00:03:20.16 So they can't go themselves, 00:03:21.00\00:03:22.16 and so they bring student missionaries in 00:03:22.16\00:03:24.17 and place them in those villages. 00:03:26.23\00:03:28.30 - And these are remote villages. 00:03:28.30\00:03:29.90 They have to hike to them. 00:03:29.90\00:03:31.14 - Yeah, some of 'em are super remote. 00:03:31.14\00:03:32.57 Some of 'em are not so remote, 00:03:32.57\00:03:33.91 but to us, they're all remote. 00:03:33.91\00:03:35.51 - In this first video, what are we gonna see? 00:03:36.71\00:03:39.55 - Well, they're taking a new student missionary 00:03:39.55\00:03:41.88 to their post in a village. 00:03:41.88\00:03:45.29 You'll get to see what the village looks like 00:03:46.49\00:03:48.69 and kinda what they have to look forward to 00:03:48.69\00:03:51.19 for the next year. 00:03:51.19\00:03:52.19 (gentle music) 00:03:54.76\00:03:57.33 (birds chirp) 00:04:15.85\00:04:18.35 (footsteps crunch) 00:04:20.22\00:04:23.16 (rooster crows) 00:04:42.48\00:04:45.08 - [Female Translator] We are here in Binaculan Village 00:04:45.08\00:04:47.55 here in Tuban, Sablayan. 00:04:47.55\00:04:49.98 We brought the teachers here, and from now on, 00:04:53.19\00:04:56.32 they will be staying here for the whole year. 00:04:56.32\00:04:59.03 We entered this village 00:05:05.37\00:05:07.40 through the help of our Mangyan worker who is a lady. 00:05:07.40\00:05:11.27 She can't read or write, 00:05:14.54\00:05:16.38 but God used her mightily to win their hearts. 00:05:16.38\00:05:19.81 Whenever she gives a Bible study, 00:05:20.98\00:05:23.12 she only asks someone to read it for her, 00:05:23.12\00:05:26.69 and she will just hear the words and explain it to them. 00:05:28.66\00:05:32.63 They started to invite us here 00:05:36.67\00:05:38.90 in order to learn more things, 00:05:38.90\00:05:40.94 especially about God 00:05:42.14\00:05:43.94 in preparation for school. 00:05:45.57\00:05:47.34 This village has one Adventist family, 00:05:52.75\00:05:55.78 and, though it's been here a long time, 00:05:59.85\00:06:02.36 they are still education-deprived. 00:06:02.36\00:06:05.26 So we are here to prepare them for higher education. 00:06:07.30\00:06:11.23 - Isn't that cool how the young lady 00:06:16.47\00:06:18.07 that was from that culture 00:06:18.07\00:06:21.04 was the one that opened the village to more, 00:06:21.04\00:06:24.41 not just education, but they wanted to learn more about God. 00:06:24.41\00:06:27.98 And she couldn't even read and write. 00:06:27.98\00:06:29.68 - No, that's really amazing. 00:06:29.68\00:06:31.29 - She would have somebody else read the Bible, 00:06:31.29\00:06:33.02 and then she would hear the words and then explain them, 00:06:33.02\00:06:36.12 obviously, through the Holy Spirit. 00:06:36.12\00:06:37.86 - Yeah, that is really neat. 00:06:37.86\00:06:40.10 Now, one thing we notice in this 00:06:40.10\00:06:41.80 is that this is a very remote village. 00:06:41.80\00:06:44.50 I mean, it's bamboo huts, basically. 00:06:44.50\00:06:48.40 And so, these people will be living there for the next year. 00:06:48.40\00:06:51.14 It's wonderful, it's actually amazing. 00:06:51.14\00:06:53.58 And we've talked to some of these young people 00:06:53.58\00:06:55.14 that have done that, 00:06:55.14\00:06:56.78 and many of them don't just do one year. 00:06:56.78\00:07:00.85 They stay longer. - They stay longer. 00:07:00.85\00:07:02.85 - Or they go back again after they get more education, 00:07:02.85\00:07:05.35 because they see the huge need, 00:07:05.35\00:07:07.56 and they see what a blessing it is to serve. 00:07:07.56\00:07:09.89 They have big smiles on their faces 00:07:09.89\00:07:11.59 when they tell us their stories. 00:07:11.59\00:07:13.40 - Well, the impact that the education has on the kids, 00:07:13.40\00:07:16.16 that's gonna be for another show. 00:07:16.16\00:07:17.77 But it is powerful. 00:07:17.77\00:07:20.60 - So, they have a lot of challenges, though. 00:07:20.60\00:07:22.60 It's not just that their living conditions 00:07:22.60\00:07:24.87 are what they are. 00:07:24.87\00:07:25.87 It's a whole new culture to them. 00:07:25.87\00:07:28.61 A whole new way of viewing the world around us, 00:07:28.61\00:07:31.98 the worldview of interacting with the spiritual realm, 00:07:31.98\00:07:36.99 so to speak, and all of that. 00:07:37.85\00:07:40.12 And that's where our next video comes in. 00:07:40.12\00:07:43.79 - Yeah, this video is, (chuckles) let me see, 00:07:44.99\00:07:48.50 it's not made for television. 00:07:48.50\00:07:50.03 It's kind of behind the scenes 00:07:51.00\00:07:53.30 about this Filipino missionary's experience 00:07:53.30\00:07:57.11 in the Filipino village way up in the mountains in Mindoro 00:07:57.11\00:08:00.94 and the interaction that she had with evil spirits. 00:08:00.94\00:08:05.88 - Okay. 00:08:05.88\00:08:08.92 (missionary speaks in foreign language) 00:08:08.92\00:08:12.49 - [Female Translator] There are times here at this village 00:08:12.49\00:08:14.22 when our faith in God was built stronger, 00:08:14.22\00:08:16.26 and we learned how to submit to God. 00:08:17.46\00:08:19.19 (gentle orchestral music) 00:08:29.80\00:08:33.31 I was with my co-teacher, Apple, and we were sleeping. 00:08:35.54\00:08:38.61 The house we were staying in was not yet finished. 00:08:40.05\00:08:42.72 The only part finished was the roof and part of the walls. 00:08:42.72\00:08:46.09 During stormy weather, the wind and rain would get inside. 00:08:48.29\00:08:51.63 We didn't have a place to sleep, 00:08:53.33\00:08:54.50 so we tied our hammocks to the ceiling. 00:08:54.50\00:08:56.46 One night, around midnight or just before dawn, 00:09:01.77\00:09:04.17 I heard three sets of two hammer strikes each. 00:09:04.17\00:09:07.48 I was thinking that Apple had moved her hammock 00:09:08.88\00:09:11.51 because she was getting wet. 00:09:11.51\00:09:13.68 In the morning, Apple asked me if I had moved my hammock. 00:09:13.68\00:09:16.95 I told her I hadn't. 00:09:16.95\00:09:18.55 She told me she thought I had moved my hammock 00:09:18.55\00:09:20.96 because she had also heard 00:09:20.96\00:09:22.36 the three sets of two hammer strikes. 00:09:22.36\00:09:24.79 I told her I thought it was her who had moved. 00:09:24.79\00:09:27.30 We just left it at that. 00:09:27.30\00:09:28.53 Every afternoon, we would do house-to-house visitation. 00:09:30.43\00:09:32.97 People told us, "You're always hammering away on your house. 00:09:32.97\00:09:36.04 "You're always noisy." 00:09:36.04\00:09:38.14 They told us with certainty that we were so noisy 00:09:38.14\00:09:40.81 in the early morning hammering away at our house. 00:09:40.81\00:09:43.65 We told them that we did not use the hammer 00:09:43.65\00:09:45.65 during those times. 00:09:45.65\00:09:46.88 If we were going to use the hammer, 00:09:46.88\00:09:48.25 7:00 a.m. would be too early for that. 00:09:48.25\00:09:50.32 We just left it at that. 00:09:50.32\00:09:51.55 But at the time, 00:09:51.55\00:09:53.02 I was struggling with the use of my smartphone, 00:09:53.02\00:09:54.99 because I am a fan of Barbie. 00:09:54.99\00:09:56.42 I had a big collection of Barbie movies 00:09:59.06\00:10:00.66 and a lot of their songs. 00:10:00.66\00:10:02.03 That afternoon, I was struggling 00:10:04.60\00:10:06.00 because I had the urge to sing those songs, 00:10:06.00\00:10:08.17 so I went behind the house. 00:10:10.67\00:10:12.44 I stood there and played all the songs 00:10:12.44\00:10:14.74 and sang and sang and sang all those Barbie songs. 00:10:14.74\00:10:17.88 Then that night while sleeping, I was ill at ease. 00:10:19.25\00:10:22.25 Although we had had our worship and I had said my prayers, 00:10:25.02\00:10:28.46 I was still ill at ease. 00:10:28.46\00:10:29.66 Then a while before dawn, I sensed something strange. 00:10:32.23\00:10:35.10 - [Missionary] I felt something strange. 00:10:35.10\00:10:37.87 - [Female Translator] From my position near the door, 00:10:37.87\00:10:39.37 I saw a person enter our house. 00:10:39.37\00:10:41.10 (missionary speaks in foreign language) 00:10:42.94\00:10:47.01 And then the person walked over to Apple's hammock. 00:10:47.01\00:10:49.41 He stood there for a while, 00:10:49.41\00:10:50.78 and then came over to my hammock. 00:10:50.78\00:10:52.38 I could see him coming near me. 00:10:54.32\00:10:56.48 He did not have a face. 00:10:56.48\00:10:58.69 He started strangling me and smothering me. 00:10:58.69\00:11:00.92 I was struggling. 00:11:03.99\00:11:05.46 I wanted to fight against him. 00:11:05.46\00:11:06.93 I thought it was a real person, so I was wrestling with him. 00:11:06.93\00:11:09.90 I could feel myself getting weak, 00:11:12.77\00:11:14.44 and I thought, "Why am I fighting alone?" 00:11:15.67\00:11:17.71 I had not asked God for help. 00:11:19.57\00:11:21.11 And then I stopped fighting. 00:11:22.08\00:11:23.48 I had that feeling of tears and sweat 00:11:24.75\00:11:26.88 and being suffocated with no strength. 00:11:26.88\00:11:28.78 It was then I remembered to pray. 00:11:32.55\00:11:35.29 - This is not real. 00:11:40.06\00:11:41.90 - [Female Translator] Lord, I know that this is not real. 00:11:41.90\00:11:45.73 Please give me faith to fight this. 00:11:45.73\00:11:47.64 Then what flashed on my mind 00:11:49.34\00:11:51.01 was what Jesus said to His disciples. 00:11:51.01\00:11:53.31 "I commission you to cast out devils." 00:11:53.31\00:11:55.68 God, there is no difference between them and me 00:11:59.51\00:12:01.92 since I accepted You and know that I am Your disciple. 00:12:01.92\00:12:05.32 So, give me power. 00:12:05.32\00:12:06.32 - So, give me power. 00:12:06.32\00:12:08.52 - [Female Translator] Because You said 00:12:08.52\00:12:10.03 you would give us power if we receive the Holy Spirit. 00:12:10.03\00:12:12.03 - If we receive the Holy Spirit. 00:12:12.03\00:12:13.43 So, give me, Lord, the Holy Spirit 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.06 and enough faith (speaks in foreign language). 00:12:15.06\00:12:16.70 - [Female Translator] And enough faith to cast this out. 00:12:18.10\00:12:20.37 He vanished. 00:12:20.37\00:12:21.20 I was relieved. 00:12:22.17\00:12:23.47 I was crying uncontrollably. 00:12:23.47\00:12:25.77 Then I was calling out to Apple, "Apple, help me." 00:12:25.77\00:12:28.54 I thought she didn't hear me. 00:12:31.15\00:12:32.58 Then in the morning, 00:12:34.58\00:12:35.78 I didn't tell her about what happened to me, 00:12:35.78\00:12:37.02 because I didn't go back to sleep. 00:12:37.02\00:12:39.49 I just sang and sang, 00:12:39.49\00:12:40.69 because every time I sang, he was not around. 00:12:40.69\00:12:43.66 But if I stopped singing or reciting memory verses, 00:12:43.66\00:12:46.66 he would appear again in front of me. 00:12:46.66\00:12:48.50 I was scared because he didn't have face. 00:12:50.30\00:12:52.30 Every time I left the house, my hair would stand on end. 00:12:53.84\00:12:56.60 I wasn't able to sleep at night because around 2:00 a.m., 00:12:59.11\00:13:01.91 he would walk around the house. 00:13:04.71\00:13:06.25 When you wake up, you see nothing but him. 00:13:07.48\00:13:09.58 When you turn over, he is there. 00:13:10.69\00:13:12.69 When you look up, he is in front of you. 00:13:13.96\00:13:16.29 When you turn, he is still in front of you. 00:13:16.29\00:13:18.96 Out of fear, you can do nothing but cry. 00:13:18.96\00:13:21.10 Fear is all you feel, so I prayed to God. 00:13:22.76\00:13:25.40 - I prayed to God. 00:13:25.40\00:13:27.07 - [Female Translator] Lord, give me even just a small amount 00:13:27.07\00:13:29.67 of faith not to fear, 00:13:29.67\00:13:31.17 because if I am still afraid tonight, I really will go home. 00:13:31.17\00:13:34.38 I don't have a reason to stay here, because I am afraid. 00:13:34.38\00:13:37.85 How can I be a blessing to the village 00:13:37.85\00:13:39.81 when I can't even fight this fear? 00:13:39.81\00:13:42.18 That night when I slept and woke up, I still saw him. 00:13:42.18\00:13:45.22 But I really praise God 00:13:45.22\00:13:47.02 because I didn't have any fear anymore. 00:13:47.02\00:13:49.59 I turned to the side, and he is there. 00:13:49.59\00:13:51.06 I turned to the other side, and he is there, 00:13:51.06\00:13:53.53 but I didn't mind him. 00:13:53.53\00:13:54.86 I slept. 00:13:54.86\00:13:56.03 - So, when we experience a lot of things. 00:13:56.03\00:13:58.20 - [Female Translator] It's okay to get scared sometimes, 00:13:59.63\00:14:01.27 because it teaches us to be prayerful and to cling to God. 00:14:01.27\00:14:04.17 Our Lord didn't teach his disciples to be good preachers, 00:14:09.44\00:14:12.65 he taught them to be prayerful. 00:14:12.65\00:14:14.25 - To be prayerful. 00:14:14.25\00:14:15.88 - [Female Translator] During my meditation, 00:14:15.88\00:14:17.12 I was convicted to get rid of all my music. 00:14:17.12\00:14:20.29 So, I deleted my Barbie songs. 00:14:20.29\00:14:21.89 When I deleted the music, the man didn't suddenly disappear. 00:14:24.79\00:14:27.93 The music was gone from my phone but not my heart. 00:14:27.93\00:14:30.77 But when I submitted everything to God, everything changed. 00:14:30.77\00:14:34.70 - We praise God. 00:14:34.70\00:14:35.90 - [Female Translator] The enemy doesn't want 00:14:37.71\00:14:38.94 what we are introducing to the children here. 00:14:38.94\00:14:40.74 Our presence in this village is redemption, 00:14:42.74\00:14:45.38 writing and reading. 00:14:45.38\00:14:47.28 - Writing and reading. 00:14:47.28\00:14:49.68 - [Female Translator] So, I don't think he likes us 00:14:49.68\00:14:51.12 revealing the love of Christ here in this village. 00:14:51.12\00:14:55.76 So, he tries to make us leave 00:14:56.62\00:14:57.86 by scaring us or using other means. 00:14:57.86\00:14:59.96 But God did not allow that to happen. 00:15:01.10\00:15:02.86 This place needs missionaries that are resilient. 00:15:05.93\00:15:08.37 We need missionaries that will strengthen their faith 00:15:10.07\00:15:12.57 and life and be a blessing to this village. 00:15:12.57\00:15:15.34 - (laughs) What a story. 00:15:20.15\00:15:22.85 Amazing. 00:15:22.85\00:15:24.12 - It's interesting how her walk with Christ, 00:15:24.12\00:15:27.06 she was still having worships and things like that, 00:15:28.39\00:15:30.69 but these things, these songs had such a hold on her. 00:15:30.69\00:15:34.76 And she finally realized 00:15:34.76\00:15:37.10 that it was what was the door that was letting him in. 00:15:37.10\00:15:40.30 As she was serving the people, she was like, 00:15:41.50\00:15:43.51 "How can I be a witness when I'm afraid? How can I?" 00:15:43.51\00:15:47.44 So, the fact that she was there to be a witness 00:15:47.44\00:15:51.05 was instrumental in changing her life, 00:15:51.05\00:15:54.25 which I think is huge. 00:15:54.25\00:15:55.65 We don't have to be perfect to be a missionary. 00:15:55.65\00:15:57.89 We don't have to have all the check boxes 00:15:57.89\00:16:00.29 in our own lives in order to be a missionary. 00:16:00.29\00:16:02.79 - In order to start. 00:16:02.79\00:16:03.79 But as we go in, as we serve Him, 00:16:03.79\00:16:06.39 then Jesus brings us into situations where we then see 00:16:06.39\00:16:11.03 how we can surrender and give up things 00:16:11.03\00:16:13.34 that are holding us away from Him and that He can't work. 00:16:13.34\00:16:16.77 - Our relationship with Him becomes deeper, 00:16:16.77\00:16:19.14 because we realize our need of change. 00:16:19.14\00:16:22.58 - I believe that's the whole reason God gave us missions 00:16:22.58\00:16:24.75 in the first place. 00:16:24.75\00:16:26.15 He gave us the Great Commission not because He hated us, 00:16:26.15\00:16:29.68 but because He saw this would be the biggest blessing 00:16:29.68\00:16:31.82 to the church, to us individually, 00:16:31.82\00:16:33.86 and the church as a whole. 00:16:33.86\00:16:35.79 And as we take hold of His work 00:16:35.79\00:16:37.56 and take hold of His mission, yeah it can be tough. 00:16:37.56\00:16:39.93 But I can tell you one thing, 00:16:39.93\00:16:41.36 being in the world without Him is tougher. 00:16:41.36\00:16:43.70 Because I know this was a tough experience for her, 00:16:45.17\00:16:47.04 but she had somebody to turn to, 00:16:47.04\00:16:48.44 somebody to cling to, and she had victory. 00:16:48.44\00:16:50.71 And now she has a smile on her face. 00:16:50.71\00:16:52.87 And she has a story. 00:16:52.87\00:16:53.91 - An amazing testimony. 00:16:53.91\00:16:56.11 - But I mean, not very many people 00:16:56.11\00:16:57.88 have gone through an experience like this 00:16:57.88\00:17:00.78 where there's a guy, and he doesn't have a face. 00:17:00.78\00:17:03.99 - And she saw him over and over and over again. 00:17:03.99\00:17:07.59 - And I asked them, "What do you mean he didn't have a face? 00:17:08.99\00:17:12.13 "He had no head?" 00:17:12.13\00:17:13.60 Well, he had hair, but there was no facial features. 00:17:13.60\00:17:18.17 So, it was just blank. 00:17:18.90\00:17:19.70 Everything was blank. 00:17:19.70\00:17:20.97 No eyes, no nose, no mouth, just no face. 00:17:20.97\00:17:23.77 And so, obviously, it was a demonic being. 00:17:23.77\00:17:27.01 - Presence, right? Wow. 00:17:27.01\00:17:28.61 - So, coming face to face with that 00:17:28.61\00:17:30.51 is when you start to realize that there is a God. 00:17:30.51\00:17:33.38 - And you need Him. 00:17:34.32\00:17:35.28 - Exactly. 00:17:36.15\00:17:37.29 You know, even Shakespeare says, 00:17:37.29\00:17:39.62 "There are more things in heaven and earth 00:17:39.62\00:17:41.16 "than in all of your philosophies." 00:17:41.16\00:17:43.76 So, here in the West, we've developed a philosophy 00:17:43.76\00:17:47.10 that doesn't include evil spirits 00:17:47.10\00:17:50.70 and beings that we cannot see. 00:17:50.70\00:17:53.30 Angels and even God and Satan. 00:17:53.30\00:17:55.87 It doesn't exist. 00:17:56.87\00:17:58.04 And for those people, 00:17:59.24\00:18:00.98 I'd like to take them to places like this 00:18:00.98\00:18:03.78 where there's no doubt. 00:18:03.78\00:18:05.98 And that's what animism is all about. 00:18:07.08\00:18:09.78 The religion of animism 00:18:09.78\00:18:11.02 is because they have real evil spirits, 00:18:11.02\00:18:14.59 live and functioning, in their lives. 00:18:14.59\00:18:17.66 There's no doubt in their minds. 00:18:17.66\00:18:19.66 But that gives them great faith in God, 00:18:19.66\00:18:23.06 because God is a spirit. 00:18:23.06\00:18:25.67 And, of course, in John 4, He says, 00:18:25.67\00:18:28.20 "Those that worship Him must worship Him 00:18:28.20\00:18:29.97 "in spirit and truth." 00:18:29.97\00:18:31.67 We have a hard time in the West with the spirit side, 00:18:31.67\00:18:34.84 but they don't. 00:18:36.38\00:18:37.31 But, anyway, so this is kind of an experience 00:18:38.48\00:18:41.88 of one of our missionaries from the Philippines 00:18:41.88\00:18:44.95 going to another people group in the Philippines 00:18:44.95\00:18:47.69 and how their faith is strengthened in the process. 00:18:47.69\00:18:51.53 - This trial of our faith is so necessary for growth, 00:18:51.53\00:18:54.20 and it reminds me of that George Müller quote. 00:18:54.20\00:18:56.93 "If we desire our faith to be strengthened, 00:18:58.07\00:19:00.10 "we should not shrink from opportunities 00:19:00.10\00:19:02.20 "where our faith my tried, 00:19:02.20\00:19:03.84 "and therefore, through trial, be strengthened." 00:19:03.84\00:19:07.48 Often, we just avoid taking the Gospel to the world 00:19:07.48\00:19:10.88 because of things like this. 00:19:10.88\00:19:12.35 - Yes, it's scary, it's hard. 00:19:12.35\00:19:14.55 We don't know where our food's gonna come from. 00:19:14.55\00:19:16.35 We don't know how we're gonna survive. 00:19:16.35\00:19:17.55 All these things. 00:19:17.55\00:19:19.09 But that is the very necessary trials and experience we need 00:19:19.09\00:19:23.39 to really develop a firm faith in Christ. 00:19:24.56\00:19:27.10 And, you know, with all the things 00:19:27.10\00:19:28.30 that are going on in the world today, 00:19:28.30\00:19:30.07 we can see that we're coming very close to a time 00:19:31.43\00:19:34.67 where we will need to live by faith and not by sight. 00:19:34.67\00:19:38.44 And so that is the gift of missions that we can invest 00:19:38.44\00:19:42.88 in God's work and look to Him to supply our needs. 00:19:42.88\00:19:47.15 - That's true, very true. 00:19:47.15\00:19:48.95 - Before it becomes a matter of life and death. 00:19:48.95\00:19:51.99 - So, we have another video. 00:19:51.99\00:19:53.39 This one's a little bit different. 00:19:53.39\00:19:54.82 It's not a testimony this time. 00:19:54.82\00:19:56.46 This is just a visit to a village and the church there. 00:19:56.46\00:20:00.46 (gravel crunches) 00:20:01.80\00:20:04.63 (gentle music) 00:20:06.47\00:20:09.07 - [Female Translator] Yes, but it's already tilted. 00:20:31.89\00:20:36.13 It was damaged by the monsoon. 00:20:38.17\00:20:40.50 So, it wasn't finished, and we need to rebuild. 00:20:44.94\00:20:47.58 (villagers chatter in foreign language) 00:20:51.68\00:20:56.32 - [Male Translator] Right now, we are in Turawan. 00:21:11.17\00:21:13.47 This is the newly formed company of our native Mangyan. 00:21:14.84\00:21:17.37 We were invited by one of our Bible workers 00:21:21.14\00:21:23.28 who told us that people are living here. 00:21:23.28\00:21:25.28 And so we came to see them. 00:21:30.62\00:21:33.19 We praise the Lord 00:21:33.19\00:21:34.66 that brother Lloyd was sent here as a Bible worker. 00:21:34.66\00:21:36.79 Before this church was erected, 00:21:38.83\00:21:40.43 they worshiped in a goat cage, but now that is ruined. 00:21:40.43\00:21:44.03 This is much better. 00:21:46.07\00:21:47.87 But it hurts to know that the people of God 00:21:47.87\00:21:50.04 were only gathering in a cage for goats. 00:21:50.04\00:21:52.67 This is only made with light materials. 00:22:00.38\00:22:02.38 That's because they do not own the land. 00:22:04.89\00:22:06.89 They are just transient here. 00:22:08.36\00:22:09.92 A bigger tribe owns this land, 00:22:11.66\00:22:14.13 but they allowed us to build this meeting place here. 00:22:14.13\00:22:16.77 But since the Mangyans don't own this land, 00:22:17.93\00:22:20.14 we don't want to invest much, because we may lose it. 00:22:20.14\00:22:23.00 Though they are only transient here, 00:22:26.71\00:22:28.74 we tried to make them a meeting place. 00:22:28.74\00:22:30.88 And so, this is their situation here. 00:22:35.38\00:22:37.69 We thank the brethren for their efforts 00:22:37.69\00:22:39.62 in putting this shelter up. 00:22:39.62\00:22:41.09 The rafters are only bamboo, 00:22:42.39\00:22:44.26 because that's all that's available here. 00:22:44.26\00:22:46.29 - [Translator] We used to have our worship in a hut, 00:22:49.46\00:22:52.50 but it's worn out now. 00:22:52.50\00:22:53.67 I am thankful that somehow we now have a place to worship. 00:22:58.27\00:23:01.14 We still want to fix up this place 00:23:02.31\00:23:03.98 so that we can have continuous worship. 00:23:05.18\00:23:06.88 - [Interviewer] Is it true that you haven't had a church 00:23:08.98\00:23:10.59 for a long time? 00:23:10.59\00:23:12.15 - [Male Translator] Yes, since the time I migrated here. 00:23:12.15\00:23:15.09 - [Interviewer] So, when you came here, there was no church? 00:23:15.09\00:23:17.49 - [Male Translator] We didn't gather on the Sabbath 00:23:17.49\00:23:19.13 because there wasn't any place to hold worship. 00:23:19.13\00:23:21.90 Instead, we only rested at home during Sabbath. 00:23:21.90\00:23:25.10 - [Interviewer] How do you feel now that there is a church, 00:23:25.10\00:23:26.97 although it only looks like this? 00:23:26.97\00:23:28.64 - [Male Translator] I feel happy thinking about it, 00:23:30.51\00:23:32.21 and my wife is happy, too. 00:23:32.21\00:23:33.51 This church has no pews, and, as you can see, 00:23:35.11\00:23:37.28 the children are only sitting on the dirt floor. 00:23:37.28\00:23:39.68 And so the needs are great. 00:23:42.88\00:23:44.25 It's distressing. 00:23:44.25\00:23:45.39 How can we help our brethren here? 00:23:47.66\00:23:49.36 (singing in foreign language) 00:23:51.56\00:23:55.36 - So, this is a situation 00:24:04.11\00:24:05.44 showing the behind-the-scenes challenge 00:24:05.44\00:24:07.44 that we often run into 00:24:07.44\00:24:09.04 in extending the work into unentered areas. 00:24:09.04\00:24:11.98 - So, we have a Bible worker in that village. 00:24:11.98\00:24:14.15 And we didn't see a picture of it because, 00:24:14.15\00:24:16.05 evidently, it's all broken down. 00:24:16.05\00:24:18.22 But they were meeting in a goat hut. 00:24:18.22\00:24:21.39 - Shed. 00:24:21.39\00:24:22.19 - Shed thing. 00:24:22.19\00:24:23.06 - So, this is better than that. 00:24:25.06\00:24:27.20 - The gentleman who said he was very happy 00:24:27.20\00:24:29.06 and his wife was very happy, that's such a blessing. 00:24:29.06\00:24:31.80 But they don't own the land, 00:24:31.80\00:24:32.97 so they can't really have a church. 00:24:32.97\00:24:34.70 All they have is this shelter. 00:24:34.70\00:24:37.11 And that's really sad. 00:24:37.11\00:24:38.87 I can understand Brother Pete's sadness over the situation. 00:24:38.87\00:24:43.61 - You know, that sadness, that empathy 00:24:43.61\00:24:45.58 is really placed there by the Holy Spirit, 00:24:45.58\00:24:48.02 because most people walk by there and they think, 00:24:48.02\00:24:50.62 "Oh, it's not worth anything." 00:24:50.62\00:24:52.89 But in heaven's eyes, we're all created equal. 00:24:52.89\00:24:57.76 That's a Christ concept. 00:25:00.86\00:25:02.40 That's a Jesus concept. 00:25:02.40\00:25:04.23 You don't find that in other religions. 00:25:04.23\00:25:06.20 - No, that's His heart being placed into our hearts 00:25:06.20\00:25:10.11 when that happens. 00:25:10.11\00:25:11.54 - And so, you know, those people are precious. 00:25:11.54\00:25:13.74 But this is the challenge that they're facing often 00:25:15.41\00:25:19.58 is how do we move forward? 00:25:19.58\00:25:21.62 This lack of funds, this lack of ability to move forward. 00:25:21.62\00:25:24.62 Lack of ability to expand and plant new churches 00:25:24.62\00:25:29.62 and new schools in different villages and go beyond. 00:25:31.03\00:25:32.49 There's always this challenge that they have, 00:25:32.49\00:25:35.10 they're running up against. 00:25:35.10\00:25:36.80 The van that they were driving has since broken down. 00:25:36.80\00:25:39.67 So, they don't have a vehicle. 00:25:39.67\00:25:43.00 So, all these challenges that they have, 00:25:43.00\00:25:45.27 and yet you see their heart for the people, 00:25:45.27\00:25:47.41 and it just inspires you to want to be a part of that. 00:25:47.41\00:25:50.61 - And you know this ministry, we see, 00:25:50.61\00:25:52.51 especially when we get the stories back, 00:25:52.51\00:25:54.88 we see some amazing miracles from this ministry. 00:25:54.88\00:25:57.69 - Yeah, like the one 00:25:57.69\00:25:59.12 where there was this monsoon that came through, 00:25:59.12\00:26:00.82 and their rice field was standing straight up, 00:26:00.82\00:26:03.66 and the neighbors rice field all around them 00:26:03.66\00:26:05.49 were completely flattened. 00:26:05.49\00:26:07.56 - Because they had dedicated that rice 00:26:07.56\00:26:09.73 to feeding the people in the mountains. 00:26:09.73\00:26:11.87 And hopefully one of these days we can back again. 00:26:13.30\00:26:15.70 - Yeah, and see some of those kids. 00:26:15.70\00:26:17.17 You know, some of the kids that, before our feeding program, 00:26:17.17\00:26:21.21 were just really malnourished. 00:26:21.21\00:26:23.61 And now when we see them, 00:26:23.61\00:26:25.08 it's like they're strong and healthy and happy. 00:26:25.08\00:26:27.22 - And clean. - And clean. 00:26:27.22\00:26:28.95 - Because they've learned cleanliness from the 00:26:28.95\00:26:32.42 missionaries. What a blessing these stories are 00:26:32.42\00:26:34.69 to encourage us to surrender everything to God, 00:26:34.69\00:26:38.13 to let go of whatever else in the world might bind us. 00:26:38.13\00:26:41.93 - And you know one thing that this inspires me to 00:26:41.93\00:26:43.87 is I tend to take our Christianity, 00:26:43.87\00:26:47.00 the things that we've been taught, 00:26:47.00\00:26:48.47 that Jesus loves us and has a home in heaven for us. 00:26:48.47\00:26:52.77 We kinda take those for granted. 00:26:52.77\00:26:54.91 And when you see this message in a different culture 00:26:54.91\00:26:59.51 where they don't have that background, you start to see, 00:26:59.51\00:27:03.62 "Wow, what we have been given is so valuable." 00:27:03.62\00:27:07.39 And it just makes me hang onto it more, 00:27:07.39\00:27:10.19 value it more, and live in that. 00:27:10.19\00:27:12.89 It just gives me more joy. 00:27:12.89\00:27:14.46 - And what a blessing and privilege it will be in heaven 00:27:14.46\00:27:17.60 to get to meet the people that God has changed their lives, 00:27:17.60\00:27:21.14 even if we have never met them before. 00:27:21.14\00:27:23.77 - Can you imagine those people that come from a mud hut 00:27:23.77\00:27:26.14 or a bamboo hut to the streets of gold, 00:27:26.14\00:27:29.91 and Jesus Himself places that crown of gold on their head. 00:27:29.91\00:27:34.15 Robe of light. 00:27:34.15\00:27:35.42 They are gonna be so excited. 00:27:35.42\00:27:38.09 - If you would like to support this work in Mindoro, 00:27:39.42\00:27:41.39 you can pray for them. 00:27:41.39\00:27:43.39 Prayer makes a difference, a huge difference. 00:27:43.39\00:27:46.53 And if you'd like more information, 00:27:46.53\00:27:47.93 you can contact us at "Jesus for Asia" 00:27:47.93\00:27:50.67 PO Box 1221, Collegedale, Tennessee 37315. 00:27:50.67\00:27:55.67 Call us at 423-413-7321 00:27:56.40\00:28:00.21 or visit our website at jesus4asia.org. 00:28:00.21\00:28:03.78 May God richly bless you until we see you next time 00:28:03.78\00:28:06.98 on "Jesus for Asia Now." 00:28:06.98\00:28:08.85 (swelling inspriational music) 00:28:08.85\00:28:12.75
