(inspirational music) 00:00:00.66\00:00:03.93 - Hello and welcome to Jesus For Asia Now. 00:00:21.92\00:00:24.29 I'm Natalie Wood and today my husband Jon is here with me. 00:00:24.29\00:00:27.49 And we're gonna do a little bit different show today, 00:00:27.49\00:00:30.09 it's little bit of dreaming maybe, 00:00:30.09\00:00:32.16 bit of a travelog, welcome to the show dear. 00:00:32.16\00:00:35.20 - Hi darling, good to be here. 00:00:35.20\00:00:37.27 - You went on a trip. - Yeah. 00:00:37.27\00:00:39.00 - And that's what we wanna share about today, 00:00:39.00\00:00:40.60 some possibilities, some learning, 00:00:40.60\00:00:43.34 maybe some language culture kind of learning. 00:00:43.34\00:00:46.44 - Yeah, mm-hmm. 00:00:46.44\00:00:47.54 - Sights and sounds. - Yeah. 00:00:47.54\00:00:49.21 - Where are we going today? 00:00:49.21\00:00:50.95 - Well, I wanna share a little bit about 00:00:50.95\00:00:53.48 why I'm going to these places. 00:00:53.48\00:00:55.42 And a lot of times, what is the motive of our travel? 00:00:55.42\00:00:59.92 For me, I find myself going back to the same spot a lot. 00:00:59.92\00:01:04.29 Of course we have ministries, 00:01:04.29\00:01:05.59 we have projects there 00:01:05.59\00:01:06.93 and so we just keep going back to the same spot 00:01:06.93\00:01:09.16 and I think as a church we tend to, or as humans, 00:01:09.16\00:01:12.33 we tend to go back to what we know. 00:01:12.33\00:01:14.67 And so I wanted to look into places 00:01:14.67\00:01:18.71 that we aren't doing anything. 00:01:18.71\00:01:21.24 A lot of times we talk about all the things 00:01:21.24\00:01:23.11 that we've accomplished and all the things, 00:01:23.11\00:01:24.85 all the mission outreach projects that we're doing. 00:01:24.85\00:01:27.78 And so we kinda get the feeling or the impression 00:01:27.78\00:01:31.15 that a lot's being done overseas. 00:01:31.15\00:01:34.46 A lot of money's going, 00:01:34.46\00:01:36.12 there's a lot of ministries involved in overseas work, 00:01:36.12\00:01:39.46 but in the actuality when you look at the big picture, 00:01:39.46\00:01:42.03 there's hardly anything being done, 00:01:42.03\00:01:44.33 to reach the unreached, 00:01:44.33\00:01:45.77 to reach the major population centers of the world. 00:01:45.77\00:01:49.70 - There are a lot of areas where nothing is being done. 00:01:49.70\00:01:52.51 - Exactly. - Basically. 00:01:52.51\00:01:53.74 - Every week we talk about finishing the work 00:01:53.74\00:01:56.01 and there's a lot of places 00:01:56.01\00:01:57.28 where I'd love to see the work start. 00:01:57.28\00:01:59.45 - So you're looking at where the need is, 00:01:59.45\00:02:01.08 not just where the work is already? 00:02:01.08\00:02:02.82 - Right. 00:02:02.82\00:02:04.15 - [Natalie] So, do you wanna explain to us this map, 00:02:04.15\00:02:06.19 what are we seeing here? 00:02:06.19\00:02:07.32 - [Jon] Yeah, so the yellow is the land. 00:02:07.32\00:02:10.79 (Jon chuckles) 00:02:10.79\00:02:11.63 And the red spots are 00:02:11.63\00:02:12.73 where the population density is higher, 00:02:12.73\00:02:16.30 you know, like, certain number 00:02:16.30\00:02:17.97 of people per square kilometer or something. 00:02:17.97\00:02:20.74 - Okay. - So like in the outback 00:02:20.74\00:02:24.04 of Australia, the center of Australia, 00:02:24.04\00:02:26.17 there's nobody, so that's all yellow. 00:02:26.17\00:02:28.31 You know, in South Dakota, North Dakota, 00:02:28.31\00:02:30.58 the people are really spread out, 00:02:30.58\00:02:31.98 so you're not gonna see any red in those places. 00:02:31.98\00:02:34.95 But in places like China, in Java, 00:02:34.95\00:02:39.02 the island of Java in Indonesia in the South there, 00:02:39.02\00:02:41.36 just over from Australia. - It's all red. 00:02:41.36\00:02:42.89 - It's all red. 00:02:42.89\00:02:43.99 I mean, like, a lot of people in one place. 00:02:43.99\00:02:46.16 And so one of the highest density population 00:02:46.16\00:02:50.10 centers in the world, is there in Northern India. 00:02:50.10\00:02:52.97 - Yeah. - Okay, it's that crescent 00:02:52.97\00:02:54.84 right below Nepal, and even though that's got the most 00:02:54.84\00:02:59.21 number of people, I mean, the numbers just are staggering, 00:02:59.21\00:03:03.01 of how many people are up there. 00:03:03.01\00:03:04.65 Like in one, one union, the North India union, 00:03:04.65\00:03:09.48 has 650 million people. 00:03:09.48\00:03:12.45 That's twice the population of the United States. 00:03:12.45\00:03:15.19 - Wow. - In one union. 00:03:15.19\00:03:16.79 That's not a division. 00:03:16.79\00:03:18.33 - Yeah. - That's just one union. 00:03:18.33\00:03:19.66 And guess how many pastors they have for 650 million people? 00:03:19.66\00:03:23.53 - I hate to guess. 00:03:23.53\00:03:25.30 'Cause we have 4000. 00:03:25.30\00:03:26.53 - [Jon] Yeah, in the North American division. 00:03:26.53\00:03:29.14 - Right. - They have less than 100. 00:03:29.14\00:03:30.97 - Wow. 00:03:30.97\00:03:32.01 Wow. - And so the numbers just, 00:03:32.01\00:03:34.84 they're just-- - Boggle the mind, yeah. 00:03:34.84\00:03:36.41 - They were like, who is sufficient for these things? 00:03:36.41\00:03:38.88 - Right, no one but God and His spirit. 00:03:38.88\00:03:41.15 - Yeah. - And by His spirit 00:03:41.15\00:03:42.65 He can open doors that man can walk through. 00:03:42.65\00:03:45.19 - And that's what we're wanting to do. 00:03:46.29\00:03:48.19 - Right. - Is, you know, 00:03:48.19\00:03:49.59 there's that statement of there's a need for people 00:03:49.59\00:03:52.63 to push the victories of the cross. 00:03:52.63\00:03:56.10 And even Paul was talking about you know, 00:03:56.10\00:03:59.93 in Romans, he's like, everybody around here, 00:03:59.93\00:04:02.60 there's other people that can do this work, 00:04:02.60\00:04:04.41 but where is the work not being done? 00:04:04.41\00:04:07.78 And so, he was wanting to go to Spain. 00:04:07.78\00:04:10.05 And that was God's will for his life, 00:04:10.05\00:04:12.55 accept that his life was cut short, 00:04:12.55\00:04:14.05 but anyway, that's kind of like, 00:04:14.05\00:04:17.69 where are we not doing this? 00:04:17.69\00:04:19.05 So that's the reason for this trip that I took. 00:04:19.05\00:04:21.56 - Okay. - And so we launched 00:04:21.56\00:04:24.03 up from Mumbai. 00:04:24.03\00:04:25.86 And looking out of the plane window, 00:04:25.86\00:04:27.86 you see a slum type of dwelling there. 00:04:27.86\00:04:30.87 As we lift off, we look off into the distance, 00:04:30.87\00:04:33.20 we see high rises. 00:04:33.20\00:04:34.57 If we look to the left here, in the bottom left corner 00:04:34.57\00:04:36.81 of the screen, you can see how the slum 00:04:36.81\00:04:38.81 is right up against these big high rises. 00:04:38.81\00:04:41.44 And so you see this big mixture, 00:04:41.44\00:04:43.24 this big disparity between the ultra poor 00:04:43.24\00:04:47.38 and the wealthy. 00:04:47.38\00:04:49.05 It's a huge city, a metropolitan area of 20 million people. 00:04:49.05\00:04:53.19 It's the size of New York. 00:04:53.19\00:04:54.59 Massive city, and we'll get to that in another show. 00:04:55.92\00:04:58.06 Beautiful cloud formations you can see 00:04:58.06\00:05:00.10 are coming from Mumbai, straight up, 00:05:00.10\00:05:02.20 it's about a two hour flight. 00:05:02.20\00:05:04.10 And now we're zooming into the state of Punjab. 00:05:04.10\00:05:07.94 - Okay. - And we're coming 00:05:07.94\00:05:09.27 to the city of Amritsar. 00:05:09.27\00:05:11.74 - Okay. - So we've come in, 00:05:11.74\00:05:13.34 we land, here's the airport, very modern airport. 00:05:13.34\00:05:15.78 And this is my taxi driver I got from the airport 00:05:15.78\00:05:19.41 to my hotel with an Uber taxi. 00:05:19.41\00:05:22.18 - Okay. (they laugh) 00:05:22.18\00:05:23.79 - And he had a turban and everything. 00:05:23.79\00:05:25.99 So he took me to my hotel through the Gandhi gate, 00:05:25.99\00:05:28.46 coming into Amritsar, passed the tree, 00:05:28.46\00:05:31.39 where they're selling a lot of things. 00:05:31.39\00:05:33.90 (he laughs) 00:05:33.90\00:05:34.96 It's a banyan tree, really cool tree. 00:05:34.96\00:05:36.33 And then this is my hotel. 00:05:36.33\00:05:37.83 - Okay. - So many times we see 00:05:37.83\00:05:40.14 pictures, but it's hard to imagine the feeling 00:05:40.14\00:05:44.01 of being there, you know, in the mix. 00:05:44.01\00:05:46.98 - Right. - And look around 00:05:46.98\00:05:48.34 and there's things happening and the smell and the heat 00:05:48.34\00:05:50.61 and everything like that. 00:05:50.61\00:05:51.95 - We can't share the smell or the heat today. 00:05:53.48\00:05:56.12 But, we can share the sights and sounds. 00:05:56.12\00:05:58.65 - Yeah. - So, we have a video. 00:05:58.65\00:06:01.06 - [Jon] Okay. 00:06:01.06\00:06:02.09 So I was just walking down the street, 00:06:02.09\00:06:03.49 and videotaping as I went, because it's so different. 00:06:03.49\00:06:07.40 It's so, you know, you walk across the street 00:06:07.40\00:06:10.03 and you just weave yourself through the traffic, 00:06:10.03\00:06:12.20 'cause otherwise, you'll never get across. 00:06:12.20\00:06:13.54 - [Natalie] Right. (he laughs) 00:06:13.54\00:06:14.60 - [Jon] And just walking down the side walk, 00:06:14.60\00:06:16.20 it's such a different feeling. 00:06:16.20\00:06:17.61 And the people are friendly, they're open, they're warm. 00:06:17.61\00:06:20.71 As I was walking, I saw this guy come up to his 00:06:20.71\00:06:23.18 Royal Enfield motorcycle. 00:06:23.18\00:06:24.81 - [Natalie] But you have told me that this is really 00:06:24.81\00:06:26.58 an unusual bike. 00:06:26.58\00:06:27.72 So, they still have those? 00:06:27.72\00:06:29.32 - [Jon] Yeah, they do. 00:06:29.32\00:06:30.65 But it was neat just to talk to him, 00:06:30.65\00:06:32.19 and you know, you look at him, he's a normal guy. 00:06:32.19\00:06:35.02 - Yeah. - Put him in Australia, 00:06:35.02\00:06:36.79 or America, he's gonna fit right in. 00:06:36.79\00:06:39.46 And now his Mother comes along. 00:06:39.46\00:06:41.70 Hops on. 00:06:43.30\00:06:44.77 - Yeah. - Then that night, 00:06:44.77\00:06:45.87 I went walking out to go to the Golden Temple. 00:06:45.87\00:06:48.80 - Okay, what is that? 00:06:48.80\00:06:50.34 - I'll show you. - Okay. 00:06:50.34\00:06:51.77 - 'Cause you have to see it to believe it. 00:06:52.87\00:06:54.34 - Okay. - It's amazing. 00:06:54.34\00:06:56.48 So that night, I'm walking down, 00:06:56.48\00:06:58.18 this is obviously after dark, 00:06:58.18\00:06:59.81 around eight or nine o'clock at night. 00:06:59.81\00:07:01.78 Most of the people had already gone passed. 00:07:01.78\00:07:04.09 I was a little bit tired and so I had rested. 00:07:04.09\00:07:06.52 This is what I saw. 00:07:06.52\00:07:07.92 You know, then people started coming. 00:07:08.96\00:07:11.29 More and more people. 00:07:11.29\00:07:13.13 The crowds got a little thicker. 00:07:13.13\00:07:15.03 I love the way she's riding on the back, 00:07:15.03\00:07:17.47 you know, side saddle. 00:07:17.47\00:07:19.00 Big broad streets, and then I started seeing 00:07:19.00\00:07:21.97 these massive statues and stuff. 00:07:21.97\00:07:26.31 It was like, wow. 00:07:26.31\00:07:27.78 And there's this. 00:07:27.78\00:07:29.18 That's like, wow, and then-- 00:07:29.18\00:07:31.75 - [Natalie] There's a lot of motion in that one. 00:07:31.75\00:07:33.18 - [Jon] Yeah. 00:07:33.18\00:07:34.72 And then this bus, look at this bus. 00:07:34.72\00:07:36.18 I mean, it's-- - Full. 00:07:36.18\00:07:38.25 On top and bottom. - Yeah, it's a double decker. 00:07:38.25\00:07:40.79 - Yeah. - Converted. 00:07:40.79\00:07:42.66 And then more and more people. - Was this a festival time? 00:07:42.66\00:07:45.76 - No. - Like, a special holiday? 00:07:45.76\00:07:46.93 - No, it was just a normal day. 00:07:46.93\00:07:49.90 Not a special, nothing special, this is just normal traffic. 00:07:49.90\00:07:53.57 - Okay. - To go to this temple. 00:07:53.57\00:07:55.70 - Oh, okay. - And of course, 00:07:55.70\00:07:57.91 the Subway there kind of made me, 00:07:57.91\00:08:00.31 well it looked a little out of place to be honest with you. 00:08:00.31\00:08:02.44 - Yeah. 00:08:02.44\00:08:03.71 - I knew if I had any trouble, I you know, 00:08:03.71\00:08:06.18 with the food, I'd just go there. 00:08:06.18\00:08:08.12 - Yeah. - This is the entrance 00:08:08.12\00:08:09.55 to the temple. - Wow. 00:08:09.55\00:08:11.89 - Yeah, and look at all these people. 00:08:11.89\00:08:14.69 They're just walking through and people look like entire 00:08:14.69\00:08:17.23 families are camped out there, spending the night, 00:08:17.23\00:08:20.06 and this is after we come into the entrance, 00:08:20.06\00:08:22.43 this is the temple. 00:08:22.43\00:08:24.03 So inside this entrance is this big square, 00:08:24.03\00:08:28.97 with a big lake, and in the middle of the lake, 00:08:28.97\00:08:31.44 is this Golden Temple. - The Golden Temple. 00:08:31.44\00:08:33.81 - [Jon] And they call it the Golden Temple 00:08:33.81\00:08:35.48 for a very good reason. 00:08:35.48\00:08:37.18 - It's gold - Yes. 00:08:37.18\00:08:38.71 It's actually gold. - Wow. 00:08:39.85\00:08:41.42 - [Jon] That's me. 00:08:41.42\00:08:42.72 - [Natalie] And you have something orange on your head. 00:08:42.72\00:08:44.39 - In order to go in, you have to take off your shoes. 00:08:44.39\00:08:47.72 And they have this little free shoe bank thing, 00:08:47.72\00:08:50.76 where you-- - Check your shoes in. 00:08:50.76\00:08:52.09 - Check your shoes in, and they give you a little 00:08:52.09\00:08:53.86 metal number. - Okay. 00:08:53.86\00:08:55.66 - And then you walk through this disinfectant little pool, 00:08:55.66\00:08:59.00 it's about that deep, just to get the disinfectant 00:08:59.00\00:09:01.30 off your feet and then you go in. 00:09:01.30\00:09:02.64 - You mean you get the disinfectant on your feet? 00:09:02.64\00:09:05.01 - Yeah, the germs. - You disinfect your feet. 00:09:05.01\00:09:07.18 - Get your germs off your feet. 00:09:07.18\00:09:08.24 - Okay. - And then you have to have 00:09:08.24\00:09:10.51 something on your head. - A head covering. 00:09:10.51\00:09:11.91 - So this guy sold me this little orange head scarf. 00:09:11.91\00:09:16.62 And here's some worshipers. 00:09:16.62\00:09:18.15 Now, what's unique about this temple, 00:09:18.15\00:09:20.89 in this religion, is they don't worship idols. 00:09:20.89\00:09:23.66 - Really? - Yeah. 00:09:23.66\00:09:25.06 They've got a big book, I mean, it's a massive book. 00:09:25.06\00:09:29.16 And inside is the writings of their sages 00:09:29.16\00:09:32.40 from generations ago. 00:09:32.40\00:09:34.77 They had like seven very wise sages that wrote down 00:09:34.77\00:09:38.64 all their thoughts and they put it in a book, 00:09:38.64\00:09:40.31 and they don't worship the book, 00:09:40.31\00:09:42.91 but that's what's on display, 00:09:42.91\00:09:44.61 and they venerate the book. 00:09:44.61\00:09:47.82 They have miracles in their history. 00:09:47.82\00:09:50.12 A man was coming to save a part of his kingdom. 00:09:50.12\00:09:53.86 He got in a battle, he got his head chopped off, 00:09:55.19\00:09:57.03 so he carried his head in his hand 00:09:57.03\00:09:58.76 and went and saved the kingdom anyway. 00:09:58.76\00:10:00.73 The pool has healing powers, so you'll see people 00:10:02.50\00:10:05.83 going into the pool, like Pool of Bethesda, basically, 00:10:05.83\00:10:08.70 to get healed and a lot of teachings. 00:10:09.80\00:10:12.14 Teaching and educating the people. 00:10:13.48\00:10:14.81 They walk around with a little dagger in their belt, 00:10:14.81\00:10:19.51 so they have the, - Head covering. 00:10:19.51\00:10:21.78 - Head covering, the big beard and the dagger. 00:10:21.78\00:10:24.52 - Okay. - Now, we have a good friend 00:10:24.52\00:10:26.35 in Bangkok who was a former Sikh. 00:10:26.35\00:10:29.99 And he's now a wonderful Adventist. 00:10:29.99\00:10:32.79 Just a wonderful family. 00:10:32.79\00:10:34.86 A lot of God's people live there. 00:10:34.86\00:10:36.13 - Right. - So, as I was coming home 00:10:36.13\00:10:38.50 the streets were darker, and I went through a different 00:10:38.50\00:10:40.47 section of town, and found this 00:10:40.47\00:10:42.54 dress shop, yeah. - Dress shops. 00:10:42.54\00:10:44.24 - [Jon] And you look at this, this looks like you know, 00:10:44.24\00:10:46.98 what are those, close up, it's like, 00:10:46.98\00:10:48.08 just a lot of shoes. - Shoes. 00:10:48.08\00:10:49.51 (they laugh) 00:10:50.41\00:10:51.38 - [Jon] And then this place, 00:10:51.38\00:10:52.65 - They sell the daggers. - They sell the dag-- 00:10:52.65\00:10:53.88 - And the swords. - Yeah. 00:10:53.88\00:10:55.32 - Long swords, wow. - Yeah. 00:10:55.32\00:10:57.32 And then more clothes, just lots and lots of-- 00:10:57.32\00:10:59.95 - Textiles, yeah. - Yeah. 00:11:00.99\00:11:03.19 - Garments. - It was Friday night, 00:11:03.19\00:11:04.29 so I didn't buy anything. 00:11:04.29\00:11:05.66 I would have loved to buy you something beautiful. 00:11:05.66\00:11:08.13 - Well, that's okay. 00:11:08.13\00:11:09.23 - Next time, I'll take you out there. 00:11:09.23\00:11:10.83 Maybe we can try it on. - That would be nice. 00:11:10.83\00:11:12.50 - The next day was Sabbath. 00:11:14.14\00:11:16.17 So I walked to church. 00:11:16.17\00:11:17.91 - Okay. - And this is some 00:11:17.91\00:11:19.41 of the sights and sounds as I was walking to church. 00:11:19.41\00:11:23.08 - Okay. - We have a man. 00:11:23.08\00:11:24.05 - A pedal taxi. - Yep. 00:11:24.05\00:11:25.91 And then this guy, with-- - I feel sorry for the horse. 00:11:25.91\00:11:28.98 - I know. 00:11:28.98\00:11:30.22 And then here's a Sikh person, 00:11:30.22\00:11:32.12 I asked if I could take his picture, 00:11:32.12\00:11:33.66 and he said, "I don't know why, but sure." 00:11:33.66\00:11:36.46 So, I took his picture, you know. 00:11:36.46\00:11:38.43 Now, this is just standing on the side of the road, 00:11:38.43\00:11:41.66 this is just a normal (horn beeps loudly) 00:11:41.66\00:11:44.50 road side scene. 00:11:44.50\00:11:46.97 Now, you can't feel the heat, can't smell, 00:11:48.17\00:11:49.80 but just, here's a young couple, getting a taxi. 00:11:49.80\00:11:52.81 Obviously they're going somewhere on a weekend, 00:11:52.81\00:11:55.51 or an extended trip. 00:11:55.51\00:11:57.01 And so the guy that was in the taxi already, 00:11:57.01\00:11:59.08 gets out and goes and sits with the driver, 00:11:59.08\00:12:01.25 and then they can get in. 00:12:01.25\00:12:02.88 And this guy's asking if I could, 00:12:02.88\00:12:05.25 if I need a ride. 00:12:05.25\00:12:06.72 And then, just this is normal life. 00:12:06.72\00:12:11.09 - Yeah. - There. 00:12:11.09\00:12:12.29 Here's a bicycle repair shop. 00:12:13.09\00:12:16.23 - Okay. - With his tools spread out. 00:12:16.23\00:12:17.73 (she laughs) 00:12:17.73\00:12:18.90 - Ready for anything. - Uh-huh. 00:12:18.90\00:12:20.20 Another shot of the street. 00:12:20.20\00:12:21.80 And you can see a couple of guys hauling their stuff. 00:12:21.80\00:12:25.34 Here's a man, this is a moving truck. 00:12:26.47\00:12:29.64 Taking some pipes to a construction site. 00:12:29.64\00:12:31.81 I walked over an overpass, main thoroughfare into town, 00:12:33.18\00:12:37.49 and then main train tracks. 00:12:37.49\00:12:39.45 - Okay. - And this is a shot 00:12:39.45\00:12:41.12 looking down on one section of the city. 00:12:41.12\00:12:43.83 Just a couple more shots, and then here we are, 00:12:43.83\00:12:46.66 at the Adventist church. - Nice. 00:12:46.66\00:12:48.80 - And we come inside. - It's nice building. 00:12:48.80\00:12:50.80 - It was really hot, but it wasn't hot enough 00:12:50.80\00:12:53.50 to turn on the AC's. 00:12:53.50\00:12:55.50 (they laugh) 00:12:55.50\00:12:57.24 So, it's what you're used to. - Right. 00:12:57.24\00:12:59.57 - So they have the fans running, and right across the aisle 00:12:59.57\00:13:02.58 was a man wearing a turban. 00:13:02.58\00:13:05.08 - Okay. - And it's kind of neat 00:13:05.08\00:13:06.41 to see when you travel to different parts of the world, 00:13:06.41\00:13:08.22 you see people from different backgrounds. 00:13:08.22\00:13:10.85 That's your brother. 00:13:10.85\00:13:11.99 - Mm-hmm. - You know, we have 00:13:11.99\00:13:13.12 the same God, same Christ, same hope, 00:13:13.12\00:13:17.69 same opportunity for salvation. 00:13:17.69\00:13:19.63 - Yeah, that's neat. 00:13:19.63\00:13:21.83 - They had Sabbath school, 00:13:21.83\00:13:22.93 here's a little bit of their singing. 00:13:22.93\00:13:25.00 (singing in foreign language) 00:13:25.00\00:13:28.90 It's not a song that I recognize, 00:13:59.67\00:14:02.04 it's a different style that I'm used to, 00:14:02.04\00:14:04.47 but it really touched their hearts. 00:14:04.47\00:14:05.91 - Mm-hmm, it's always interesting to me to see the 00:14:05.91\00:14:08.88 types of music and hear it in different languages. 00:14:08.88\00:14:11.31 - Yes. - I love to hear the songs 00:14:11.31\00:14:13.11 that they sing in different languages. 00:14:13.11\00:14:14.65 It sounds similar to a song I've heard 00:14:14.65\00:14:16.95 in other areas of India, in other languages. 00:14:16.95\00:14:19.95 But I couldn't tell you if it really is, 00:14:19.95\00:14:22.29 because it's a totally different language. 00:14:22.29\00:14:23.93 - Yeah. - So. 00:14:23.93\00:14:24.83 (he laughs) But it's also a different style. 00:14:26.33\00:14:27.36 - Right. - And it reaches their heart. 00:14:27.36\00:14:29.30 - Right. - It's their heart 00:14:29.30\00:14:30.27 style or language. 00:14:30.27\00:14:32.00 After church, they invited me to pot luck. 00:14:32.00\00:14:34.24 - Nice. - And so we had tamarind rice, 00:14:34.24\00:14:36.81 and some rasam or something, I forgot what else. 00:14:36.81\00:14:39.87 And of course, naan. 00:14:39.87\00:14:41.44 - Okay. - Naan. 00:14:41.44\00:14:42.61 - Okay. - And went inside, 00:15:00.86\00:15:02.90 and it doesn't look like much, but it was so tasty. 00:15:02.90\00:15:06.53 - Yeah, it looks like it's a little bit spicy 00:15:06.53\00:15:09.57 to me actually. 00:15:09.57\00:15:11.04 (they laugh) 00:15:11.04\00:15:12.41 - It wasn't very spicy. 00:15:12.41\00:15:13.78 - Oh, that's good. 00:15:13.78\00:15:14.61 - To me. - Okay. 00:15:14.61\00:15:16.51 Yeah, your tastes are little bit different from mine. 00:15:16.51\00:15:18.78 (he laughs) 00:15:18.78\00:15:19.81 - It looks like maybe paratha you had. 00:15:19.81\00:15:21.82 - Yes, it's a paratha, done differently than in South India. 00:15:21.82\00:15:24.89 - Right. - It was oily, 00:15:24.89\00:15:26.25 but just really good, and across the aisle again, 00:15:26.25\00:15:29.06 was a man that you don't normally, 00:15:29.06\00:15:31.69 you know, dressed in a style of dress 00:15:31.69\00:15:33.06 you don't normally see 00:15:33.06\00:15:33.93 here in America. - Right, right. 00:15:33.93\00:15:35.50 - And I liked that, I liked that. 00:15:35.50\00:15:37.23 And then after the meal, they brought me the desert. 00:15:37.23\00:15:40.34 - [Natalie] Okay, looks like, is that ice cubes, 00:15:40.34\00:15:44.64 or salt cubes, or sugar cubes? 00:15:44.64\00:15:46.31 - Okay. 00:16:52.77\00:16:53.84 - The next day, 'cause I'd gone up there 00:16:53.84\00:16:55.61 with the plan to meet the President of that section. 00:16:55.61\00:16:58.78 - Okay. - Okay. 00:16:58.78\00:16:59.91 And so the next day, I got another Uber taxi. 00:16:59.91\00:17:03.72 And I drove from Amritsar all the way to Jalandhar, 00:17:03.72\00:17:07.89 and the first thing I did, of course, 00:17:07.89\00:17:09.62 was have breakfast, it was all I could find. 00:17:09.62\00:17:11.59 - Oh yeah. (she laughs) 00:17:50.17\00:17:51.63 Different philosophy. - Lifestyle. 00:17:51.63\00:17:53.87 - Yeah. - Different philosophy, yeah. 00:17:53.87\00:17:55.64 - Then this is the North India section, 00:17:55.64\00:17:57.84 and headquarters office, there in Jalandhar, 00:17:57.84\00:18:00.18 and that is over two states. 00:18:00.18\00:18:02.18 It's over Punjab, as well as Jammu and Kashmir, 00:18:02.18\00:18:05.81 up in the north. - Okay. 00:18:05.81\00:18:07.15 - And we're not gonna talk much about Jammu and Kashmir, 00:18:07.15\00:18:09.85 because it's two reasons, number one, 00:18:09.85\00:18:12.25 it's highly contested. 00:18:12.25\00:18:14.02 If you look at the border, a lot of, you know, 00:18:14.02\00:18:17.43 a lot of the state is claimed by China. 00:18:17.43\00:18:19.73 And a lot of the other part of the state 00:18:19.73\00:18:20.93 is claimed by Pakistan. 00:18:20.93\00:18:22.96 - Oh. - And so there's been recent 00:18:22.96\00:18:24.90 fighting between India and Pakistan, in that area there. 00:18:24.90\00:18:29.10 There's only about 10 or 11 million people 00:18:30.21\00:18:32.14 that live in Jammu and Kashmir. 00:18:32.14\00:18:34.34 - Only. - Yeah, but I figure, 00:18:34.34\00:18:35.61 you know, two million people per Bible worker, 00:18:35.61\00:18:38.51 that's not bad. - That's really bad. 00:18:38.51\00:18:40.62 - That's really bad. - That's really bad. 00:18:40.62\00:18:42.52 - Yeah. 00:18:42.52\00:18:44.02 So, as you go into new areas, 00:18:44.02\00:18:46.82 you see more areas to go into. 00:18:46.82\00:18:50.36 - Right. 00:18:50.36\00:18:51.26 - So then I met with the pastor, 00:18:52.36\00:18:54.03 this is Pastor Kishore Gill. - Okay. 00:18:54.03\00:18:56.60 - The current President of the North India section. 00:18:56.60\00:19:00.47 - Okay. - And a wonderful man, 00:19:00.47\00:19:03.04 this was a Sunday, they're all dressed up, 00:19:03.04\00:19:05.41 and then I also met the ministerial director, 00:19:05.41\00:19:08.91 - Okay. - Of that same section. 00:19:08.91\00:19:11.21 And we had a wonderful talk, we spent about five hours 00:19:11.21\00:19:13.35 together talking, and brainstorming and praying, 00:19:13.35\00:19:16.28 and fellowshipping and eating together. 00:19:16.28\00:19:18.82 There's this little map that was pinned up on his wall. 00:19:18.82\00:19:21.12 This is the Jammu and Kashmir map. 00:19:21.12\00:19:23.43 And some day, I'm gonna rent one of those 00:19:23.43\00:19:25.93 Royal Enfield motorcycles, and travel that road. 00:19:25.93\00:19:29.10 That is, you know, because there's people out there, 00:19:30.50\00:19:33.10 that God knows, but I don't. 00:19:33.10\00:19:34.87 - Yep. - And this map doesn't show 00:19:34.87\00:19:37.41 it, but where that one road that goes off to the right is, 00:19:37.41\00:19:40.94 that's like the Himalayas. 00:19:40.94\00:19:42.48 - Oh, okay. - So it's like big, steep 00:19:43.65\00:19:45.18 mountains and ravines and stuff like that, so. 00:19:45.18\00:19:48.38 - Not a huge population. - No, no not over there. 00:19:48.38\00:19:51.99 And so we don't, but there's a few towns over there, 00:19:51.99\00:19:54.32 and we don't have any Bible. 00:19:54.32\00:19:55.42 There are no Bible, there is no Adventist 00:19:55.42\00:19:57.26 presence in that area. - Okay. 00:19:57.26\00:19:59.43 - The only Adventist presence is like on the left hand side, 00:19:59.43\00:20:02.93 the Western side, five Bible workers. 00:20:02.93\00:20:05.53 That's it, for the entire state. 00:20:05.53\00:20:08.30 Then this is Punjab. 00:20:08.30\00:20:09.77 You can see that it's separated 00:20:09.77\00:20:10.81 into about 23 different provinces. 00:20:10.81\00:20:12.54 - Okay. - When I've come through 00:20:12.54\00:20:13.91 in 2009, they told me that the entire southern half 00:20:13.91\00:20:16.58 of the state of Punjab had no Adventist work whatsoever. 00:20:16.58\00:20:19.75 Nothing. - Wow. 00:20:19.75\00:20:21.48 - But when you look at the state of Punjab 00:20:21.48\00:20:24.92 from satellite, see all those brown dots? 00:20:24.92\00:20:29.09 - Yeah. - Every single one of those 00:20:29.09\00:20:30.76 is a city or a town or a village, with people in it. 00:20:30.76\00:20:34.83 - Wow. - So, this is an area 00:20:34.83\00:20:36.46 where there's no Adventist work. 00:20:36.46\00:20:38.67 - And there's lots and lots of town and villages. 00:20:38.67\00:20:40.97 - Huge. 00:20:40.97\00:20:42.80 Huge, wide open, and as I zoom in, you can see, 00:20:42.80\00:20:45.74 suddenly start to make out little features 00:20:45.74\00:20:47.64 of towns and villages. 00:20:47.64\00:20:49.34 - Wow. - While we were there, 00:20:49.34\00:20:51.21 what we talked about and brainstormed and dreamed about, 00:20:51.21\00:20:54.02 was sending Bible workers into those, 00:20:54.02\00:20:57.72 the far south west, okay. 00:20:57.72\00:21:01.42 No Adventist work whatsoever right now. 00:21:01.42\00:21:04.19 But we wanna project those Bible workers into that place 00:21:04.19\00:21:07.30 and start something. 00:21:07.30\00:21:08.70 - Wow. 00:21:09.76\00:21:10.90 - Anything's better than nothing, right? 00:21:10.90\00:21:12.20 - Yep. 00:21:12.20\00:21:13.20 - So, that's our dream, that's our hope. 00:21:13.20\00:21:16.30 On the far right of that, in south eastern Punjab, 00:21:16.30\00:21:20.68 you'll see a town called Patiala. 00:21:20.68\00:21:23.28 - Okay. - Okay, and the district 00:21:23.28\00:21:24.38 of Patiala, that's a major city there. 00:21:24.38\00:21:26.98 And they had started a congregation there, 00:21:26.98\00:21:29.58 several years back, and they had the opportunity 00:21:29.58\00:21:34.46 to buy land and build a church, 00:21:34.46\00:21:37.79 for that fellowship, that faith community. 00:21:37.79\00:21:40.03 - Okay. - And a company, 00:21:40.03\00:21:42.40 a group from another country, from Korea, 00:21:42.40\00:21:44.67 had come in and said, "We will give you the money 00:21:44.67\00:21:47.54 "to build this church, to buy the land and build the church. 00:21:47.54\00:21:49.94 "But you have to give 10% of the cost of the building 00:21:49.94\00:21:53.98 "from the local field." 00:21:53.98\00:21:55.48 - Oh, wow. - Which was $4500. 00:21:55.48\00:21:57.85 And so they've, he's been looking, 00:21:59.05\00:22:01.48 the President's been looking and praying and begging 00:22:01.48\00:22:03.89 and going all over. 00:22:03.89\00:22:05.25 They cannot find $4500 to build this church. 00:22:05.25\00:22:08.99 - Oh. 00:22:08.99\00:22:09.89 - So that kind of shows you how desperately poor, 00:22:11.26\00:22:15.20 - They are. - They are, the church is. 00:22:15.20\00:22:16.90 - So you shared this at Faith Camp, 00:22:16.90\00:22:18.60 - Yes. - Recently, in the north west, 00:22:18.60\00:22:20.60 and we had a donor that came to you afterward, 00:22:20.60\00:22:23.97 and they said, "If this has not been funded, 00:22:23.97\00:22:27.28 "I will send the money." 00:22:27.28\00:22:28.51 - Yes. - And so we confirmed 00:22:28.51\00:22:30.01 with Pastor Gill, that this has not been funded, 00:22:30.01\00:22:33.28 and no portion of it, and so we told them, 00:22:33.28\00:22:36.89 and they sent a cheque for the full amount. 00:22:36.89\00:22:38.89 - Yes. - So we are so thankful 00:22:38.89\00:22:40.96 to God that we can be a part of sending those funds, 00:22:40.96\00:22:43.99 those funds are on their way right now. 00:22:43.99\00:22:45.59 - Yes. - Sending those funds, 00:22:45.59\00:22:47.10 and we're looking forward to getting 00:22:47.10\00:22:48.80 pictures of that church. 00:22:48.80\00:22:50.23 - Yes, and Pastor Gill is so happy. 00:22:50.23\00:22:52.83 Just so, you know, for us, $4500, I mean, 00:22:54.30\00:22:58.11 it's a chunk of money, not nothing. 00:22:58.11\00:23:00.58 But to see what it can do. 00:23:00.58\00:23:04.15 - Yeah. - You know, and that kind 00:23:04.15\00:23:05.75 of impact to a local faith community, 00:23:05.75\00:23:09.45 where they're, they're like in the minority. 00:23:09.45\00:23:11.42 - Yeah. - They're like, just a few. 00:23:11.42\00:23:13.62 - Yeah. - You know, maybe 20 00:23:13.62\00:23:15.32 or 30 or 50 people, but in a state where 00:23:15.32\00:23:17.93 there's 30 million people. 00:23:17.93\00:23:21.83 You know, and they're just some of the few, yes? 00:23:21.83\00:23:25.77 - Yeah. - It's amazing. 00:23:25.77\00:23:27.40 - It's huge. 00:23:27.40\00:23:28.70 It's exciting. 00:23:28.70\00:23:29.80 - It is. - It's a definite praise. 00:23:29.80\00:23:31.61 - Yes. 00:23:31.61\00:23:32.71 So after spending a few hours with the leaders 00:23:32.71\00:23:35.41 of the church up there, driving back, 00:23:35.41\00:23:37.15 I'm just looking, you know, this is the, the sun was setting 00:23:37.15\00:23:41.15 a little bit, just being there, 00:23:41.15\00:23:45.22 in a place where there's so little light. 00:23:45.22\00:23:50.13 There's so little awareness of the second coming. 00:23:50.13\00:23:53.03 Of the crisis that's just at hand. 00:23:53.03\00:23:56.20 You just start to, 00:23:56.20\00:23:57.37 your heart just, you just can't help looking 00:23:58.67\00:24:00.57 out and saying, "How many of these people, 00:24:00.57\00:24:03.34 "have never had the chance to hear the name of Jesus? 00:24:03.34\00:24:07.04 "How many of these people have never had the chance 00:24:08.44\00:24:09.84 "to hear that Jesus is coming soon?" 00:24:09.84\00:24:12.18 and the fact that we can do something, 00:24:12.18\00:24:16.65 and this is what I love about going into unentered areas, 00:24:16.65\00:24:19.85 that if we do just one little tiny thing, 00:24:19.85\00:24:24.43 it's something in the place of nothing. 00:24:24.43\00:24:27.36 You know, if we-- - It's 100% improvement. 00:24:28.80\00:24:30.83 - If we bring one person into the truth, 00:24:30.83\00:24:33.97 that's like an infinite church growth. 00:24:34.94\00:24:37.71 From zero to one, that's not even 100%. 00:24:37.71\00:24:40.61 That's from zero to one. 00:24:40.61\00:24:42.61 - Yeah, that's 100%. 00:24:42.61\00:24:44.61 - Well, one to two, that would be 100%. 00:24:44.61\00:24:47.58 - Oh, that's true. 00:24:47.58\00:24:48.95 - But zero to one, that's like an infinite percentage. 00:24:48.95\00:24:51.05 - That's true. 00:24:51.05\00:24:52.15 - And so it's like, we have the chance 00:24:52.15\00:24:54.62 to put something, to put the truth, put a standard, 00:24:54.62\00:24:58.56 to put God's love, in a place, where there's nothing. 00:24:58.56\00:25:02.70 - Yeah. 00:25:02.70\00:25:03.50 - I just felt a need to pray. 00:25:03.50\00:25:05.87 So I spent the day just beseeching the Lord, 00:25:05.87\00:25:08.40 just going after God, saying, "Lord, give us Punjab. 00:25:08.40\00:25:13.38 "Give us Punjab." 00:25:13.38\00:25:15.28 And, you know, there's something about praying 00:25:15.28\00:25:18.38 for a foreign mission field when you're here at home. 00:25:18.38\00:25:21.62 It's a whole different thing when you're actually there. 00:25:21.62\00:25:24.65 - And you're seeing it. 00:25:24.65\00:25:25.65 - Yes. - And you're seeing the people 00:25:25.65\00:25:27.86 and you're seeing the way they live. 00:25:27.86\00:25:29.42 - Yes. 00:25:29.42\00:25:30.69 It's no longer just a statistic. 00:25:30.69\00:25:32.66 It's no longer just a number. 00:25:32.66\00:25:34.23 It's that guy that you know, his Mom lives in Punjab, 00:25:34.23\00:25:37.20 he lives in Melbourne. 00:25:37.20\00:25:38.67 It's the people that served that paratha to me. 00:25:38.67\00:25:42.64 I looked in their face, you know, 00:25:42.64\00:25:44.77 I know that they're human, they have cares, 00:25:44.77\00:25:46.91 they have concerns. 00:25:46.91\00:25:48.64 They're just trying to you know, get ahead, 00:25:48.64\00:25:50.41 they're just trying to feed their family. 00:25:50.41\00:25:52.21 You know, it's like, they're people. 00:25:52.21\00:25:54.25 And so that night as I was driving you know, 00:25:54.25\00:25:56.22 to the, taking another Uber to the airport, 00:25:56.22\00:26:00.92 I'm just asking myself, "What can we do? 00:26:00.92\00:26:04.73 "What can we do for Punjab?" 00:26:04.73\00:26:06.43 - Well, we're gonna start with Bible workers. 00:26:07.73\00:26:09.50 - Yes. - And the church. 00:26:09.50\00:26:11.13 - Yes. - And then we'll see 00:26:11.13\00:26:12.33 what God does. - There's also, 00:26:12.33\00:26:14.20 we talked to, 'cause think about it. 00:26:14.20\00:26:16.54 Bible workers, is a really necessary and probably the most 00:26:16.54\00:26:21.61 effective, way of bringing people to faith. 00:26:22.88\00:26:26.68 And spreading the light. 00:26:27.35\00:26:28.15 But as far as planting seeds, 00:26:28.15\00:26:30.29 you're looking at 30 million people. 00:26:30.29\00:26:33.19 - That's true. - How many Bible workers 00:26:33.19\00:26:34.46 will we need, to reach 30 million people? 00:26:34.46\00:26:37.03 - A lot. 00:26:37.03\00:26:38.53 - So while the President and I, and the ministerial director 00:26:38.53\00:26:41.13 were talking, I started telling them what was happening 00:26:41.13\00:26:44.70 with our television ministry in the south. 00:26:44.70\00:26:48.00 And telling him how easy it was. 00:26:48.00\00:26:50.21 And how inexpensive it was, if we do it right. 00:26:50.21\00:26:53.54 And they got so excited. 00:26:54.41\00:26:56.08 And so it's like that's another things that's on the table 00:26:56.08\00:26:58.71 as let's figure out if we can do television 00:26:58.71\00:27:02.98 in the state of Punjab. 00:27:02.98\00:27:04.75 - Wow. 00:27:04.75\00:27:05.65 That would be awesome. 00:27:06.65\00:27:07.72 - Oh my goodness. 00:27:07.72\00:27:08.92 - Throw the seed. 00:27:08.92\00:27:09.79 Throw the seed, yeah. 00:27:09.79\00:27:11.33 - And then our Bible workers will be responding 00:27:11.33\00:27:13.23 to the interests, rather than like doing the cold calls. 00:27:13.23\00:27:16.63 Yeah, they need to do that too, 00:27:16.63\00:27:18.67 - Right. - But this can like, 00:27:18.67\00:27:20.87 this is like, but it'll be in a local language. 00:27:20.87\00:27:23.44 - Yeah. - Local language, 00:27:23.44\00:27:24.84 local people, local cultural challenges. 00:27:24.84\00:27:28.38 - Local contacts. - Yes. 00:27:28.38\00:27:30.48 Yeah, it's really what's necessary to reach 00:27:30.48\00:27:32.51 that population. - Wow. 00:27:32.51\00:27:34.42 We have a lot of praying to do. 00:27:34.42\00:27:35.85 - Yes, we do. 00:27:35.85\00:27:36.75 - And I would like to invite you 00:27:37.72\00:27:39.22 to be a part of this great opportunity. 00:27:39.22\00:27:41.72 To pray for them, to do whatever the Lord is asking 00:27:41.72\00:27:45.56 you to do, to be a part of it. 00:27:45.56\00:27:47.46 You can get in touch with us at Jesus For Asia, 00:27:47.46\00:27:50.13 PO Box 1221, Collegedale, Tennessee, 37315. 00:27:50.13\00:27:54.37 Call us at 423-413-7321, 00:27:56.04\00:28:00.38 or visit our website, at jesus4asia.org. 00:28:00.38\00:28:04.15 May God richly bless you, 00:28:04.15\00:28:05.78 until we see you next time, 00:28:05.78\00:28:07.22 on Jesus For Asia. 00:28:07.22\00:28:09.02 (uplifting music) 00:28:09.02\00:28:11.92
