went was several years ago

and my kids were with me,
so they were very young then.

And so not only
is it a culture shock

to go to another
country, when you're traveling

with young children,
you're not only looking out

for yourself, you're
looking out for them too

and not wanting
anything to happen.

And also, as a
mother, you're providing,

wanting to provide
and take care of them.

- So the first
time you were there,

culture shock kind of experience

from what's normal to us.

transportation is different,

- Crowds everywhere

and mass poverty, the
slums, the hut dwellings

that people live in, the shacks,

and sometimes it's right
next to very nice places.

It's just so different.

- And the sounds are
different, everything.

- The smells, the sounds, yeah.

- So when you were
there the first time

all that shock was,
'cause it was a new place.

- Right and we
were just trying to,

you kinda get in survival
mode where you're just trying

to survive from day
to day. - I can do this.

- And every day is a
totally new experience.

Nothing is normal,
nothing is the same

as the day before.

factors in a lot of times.

survive until you move on

experience the first time.

time was different for you.

In what way was it different?

- I think this time I didn't
experience the culture shock

because this time I
had a place in my brain

that I could file India.

So I, you know I just, it
was India, it was where I was

and this is how India
is and so I wasn't in this,

"How do I survive
in this environment?"

It was just I was there
and I was more comfortable.

And so this time I got to
connect with the people more

and to hear their
stories and to see them

as individuals in a way
that I didn't the first time.

- So having been there
once and gone through the,

place like, you know,

All of that kind of
learning, understanding,

then you could settle down
a little bit to the next level

more of an individual story

most was their commitment

and dedication.

a faith that I
don't see here in America.

to see how dedicated they are.

You know, the fact
that we stop for prayer

on the side of
the road with somebody

and they'll take their shoes
off on the side of the road,

no matter what is
on the ground there.

So yeah, it's amazing to see.

- Yes, we heard
stories and met people

that worked day and night.

I mean they were very committed,

starting their days
very early in the morning

and sometimes even
answering the phone

to give a Bible
study at 2:00 a.m.

- Wow, so we wanna
start telling this story,

this Bible worker,
because it's a long story.

story been going on?

- The story covers
about 10 or 11 years.

- Wow, mostly one
village though, right?

and what is her name?

- Her name is Mary.

where we met her
and heard her story.

ago that this story starts.

first got the village.

She became a bible
worker for this village.

were coming to church then?

with only one other family.

So just two families
every sabbath at church

and yet they started
doing a lot of ministry,

trying to reach the neighbors.

And visiting with them and
stuff but no one was being,

no one was receptive or
started coming to church.

appreciated the ministry maybe

or whatever help
they were giving them?

- But didn't wanna
come to the church.

they were very involved

in their own
church, probably too.

is this a
predominantly Hindu village?

- I believe this is primarily
a Sunday keeping village.

Okay, so they're there and
they're doing all this ministry

but nobody's coming to church.

that to your own experience

I was listening to the story

how we do a lot of
ministry in our communities

neighborhoods near our churches

but we don't really have
souls, or very few that come

into the church.

I honestly can't remember
any people that have come

into our church as a result
of our local outreach efforts.

that as you watch this story

saw her heart for the villagers.

and not seeing any results,

they were crying.

husband and her cried

and prayed and
just were agonizing over

come to their church.

tears, God gave a plan for us.

associate with one family.

They had a problem
and they shared with us.

go and pray for their family

was given by the house lady

going to a Pentecostal church

They began to question us,
"Our pastor did not teach us

"so we are encouraged,"
and they are more interested

in Bible studies.

- So they used the
opportunity to pray together

as an opportunity
to start sharing truth.

- That's really powerful.

- Yes that all went very
well and the lady was converted

and baptized.

prayer in different houses.

and possibly dinner too.

They were there
all day and just happy,

so happy to be able to
share the truth with people.

all these 40 days of prayer.

So what happened with
all these people that they

were suddenly doing
40 days of prayer with

and Bible studies
with, what happened to them?

- Well it
resulted in 12 baptisms.

- Wow, 12 more people?

- Yeah, their
church is growing now.

- So all these
people being baptized,

what did that do
to the former church?

- It made the pastor very upset.

And this wasn't
just a little bit angry,

he was threatening them.

He was gonna beat them
or take their life possibly.

So what did they do?

He couldn't see us.

After two long
months, he found us.

people into our homes.

And then he
started to threaten us.

This is our soul, he
belongs to my church,

Then we, after a lot of
discussion, we made them to sit

gave Bible studies to them

follow this, we are very happy

people to you also.

"You have the
church on Saturday,

"you have your Bible

"so we will help you,

"and we don't
disturb your church service."

And this pastor said
that they are depending

upon their offerings,
so it cannot be possible.

My food is on that,
so I cannot do this.

their house next time,

There is no
guarantee for your lives.

This pastor was frustrated.

- So one thing we
should mention before we go on

is that this independent pastor,

that's how he gets his
income, from his church members.

- Right, he's dependent on
their offerings for his support.

- Right, so this is one of
the reasons he was so angry.

- But we wanna go
back to this whole thing

where he's
threatening to kill them

and they pray and
God makes him blind.

months he searched for them

and was not ever
able to find them.

This isn't a big place.

then God removed the blindness.

mention, that I took away
