Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:21.62\00:00:24.02 My husband Jon and I are here today 00:00:24.02\00:00:26.09 with our friend Tim Maddocks, who is a missionary to Cambodia. 00:00:26.09\00:00:29.39 And those of you that saw the first show 00:00:29.39\00:00:31.29 know that Tim and Wendy, his wife 00:00:31.29\00:00:33.60 have been in Cambodia working for over 25 years. 00:00:33.60\00:00:37.93 And, you know, that Jesus for Asia 00:00:37.93\00:00:39.57 has only been in ministry for over 12 years 00:00:39.57\00:00:42.20 so obviously, Tim and Wendy have been in ministry 00:00:42.20\00:00:45.04 much longer than we have. 00:00:45.04\00:00:46.24 And, honey, what does that do as far as building our phase 00:00:46.24\00:00:49.71 seeing what God has done through them over the years. 00:00:49.71\00:00:52.01 Well, you know, darling, I grew up reading the texts, 00:00:52.01\00:00:54.58 "Seek ye first the kingdom of God 00:00:54.58\00:00:56.12 and his righteousness," 00:00:56.12\00:00:57.25 and all these other things, what you are going to eat, 00:00:57.25\00:00:58.95 what you are going to wear "will be added to you." 00:00:58.95\00:01:01.56 Never saw anybody believe that 00:01:01.56\00:01:04.13 until Danny Shelton was the first one I saw 00:01:04.13\00:01:07.73 that really took that for seriously 00:01:07.73\00:01:09.86 and Tim Maddocks was. 00:01:09.86\00:01:11.77 So for us, Tim and Wendy are like faith heroes. 00:01:11.77\00:01:15.50 Right. 00:01:15.50\00:01:16.60 Showing what God can do 00:01:16.60\00:01:19.07 when someone just believes what he says. 00:01:19.07\00:01:21.78 And so they are very much instrumental 00:01:21.78\00:01:23.88 in starting Jesus for Asia 00:01:23.88\00:01:26.98 and aspiring us and saying, "Yeah, you can trust God", 00:01:26.98\00:01:29.92 you know, "take him at His word and see what happens." 00:01:29.92\00:01:32.55 And so even though they are listed on our web pages, 00:01:32.55\00:01:36.26 one of our projects, 00:01:36.26\00:01:37.73 they are very much not our project. 00:01:37.73\00:01:39.33 They are not really our project. 00:01:39.33\00:01:40.40 Not at all. 00:01:40.40\00:01:41.40 We just accept donations for Tim. 00:01:41.40\00:01:44.00 Correct. 00:01:44.00\00:01:45.10 In fact, they are associated also with OCI and ASAP, 00:01:45.10\00:01:48.94 wonderful ministries, 00:01:48.94\00:01:50.31 supporting ministries of the SDA church. 00:01:50.31\00:01:52.41 And it doesn't really matter 00:01:52.41\00:01:53.68 because it's all God's work anyway. 00:01:53.68\00:01:55.34 Right. Right. 00:01:55.34\00:01:57.61 So, Tim, welcome back to the show. 00:01:57.61\00:01:58.75 Thank you. 00:01:58.75\00:01:59.95 We want to start out right away talking about the children 00:01:59.95\00:02:03.45 that the Lord has led you to work with. 00:02:03.45\00:02:04.99 Yes. 00:02:04.99\00:02:06.25 Now in the last show we talked about a school, 00:02:06.25\00:02:08.72 but very soon you started seeing another deed. 00:02:08.72\00:02:12.66 Yes, during the period 00:02:12.66\00:02:14.10 when Wendy was running the medical clinic, 00:02:14.10\00:02:16.80 we began to see people dying of HIV/AIDS 00:02:16.80\00:02:20.17 and children being orphaned. 00:02:20.17\00:02:22.07 One of those children actually came to live in our home 00:02:22.07\00:02:24.74 and became our daughter. 00:02:24.74\00:02:26.37 But we recognized that 00:02:26.37\00:02:29.31 there was no real place for these children to go 00:02:29.31\00:02:33.31 because of the stigma with AIDS, 00:02:33.31\00:02:36.65 extended family didn't want them 00:02:36.65\00:02:39.05 and other orphanages didn't want them. 00:02:39.05\00:02:41.82 And, so we felt there was a need to start an orphanage 00:02:41.82\00:02:44.86 that catered especially for these kids 00:02:44.86\00:02:47.20 but not only for these kids. 00:02:47.20\00:02:49.40 Now did you have this idea of the orphanage 00:02:49.40\00:02:51.10 and you were gung ho, 00:02:51.10\00:02:52.20 and you were going to do it right away, 00:02:52.20\00:02:54.10 or did God kind of have to work on you a little bit? 00:02:54.10\00:02:57.14 We saw the need 00:02:57.14\00:02:59.14 but we didn't want to be the driving force behind it. 00:02:59.14\00:03:04.85 We felt we had enough to do already. 00:03:04.85\00:03:06.41 You had a lot already. 00:03:06.41\00:03:07.48 We had the lay training program. 00:03:07.48\00:03:08.55 We had the school. 00:03:08.55\00:03:09.62 We were church planning, 00:03:09.62\00:03:10.92 and I had some responsibilities 00:03:10.92\00:03:14.52 in the Cambodia Adventist Mission as well 00:03:14.52\00:03:18.33 and so it's like, "We can't run an orphanage." 00:03:18.33\00:03:21.60 So, God, if you're going to... 00:03:21.60\00:03:23.30 If you want an orphanage, 00:03:23.30\00:03:24.70 then you have to find somewhere else to run it. 00:03:24.70\00:03:27.90 And so He did that? 00:03:27.90\00:03:29.37 Well, He picked us. 00:03:29.37\00:03:30.94 Uh-oh. 00:03:30.94\00:03:34.04 He sent a family to us from the United States. 00:03:34.04\00:03:37.01 They said they were willing to do this work. 00:03:37.01\00:03:39.21 They would bring their family out 00:03:39.21\00:03:40.55 and they would run the orphanage, 00:03:40.55\00:03:42.62 and so we are really excited about that. 00:03:42.62\00:03:44.82 And at the time we received a donation 00:03:44.82\00:03:48.09 which was when deceased, the estate, 00:03:48.09\00:03:49.69 a friend had died and left 25% of her estate to us. 00:03:49.69\00:03:54.93 And so, we decided we build the first orphanage house 00:03:54.93\00:03:59.03 and we get the paperwork done 00:03:59.03\00:04:01.60 so that the orphanage could operate, 00:04:01.60\00:04:03.57 and when this family arrived they could run. 00:04:03.57\00:04:05.44 It would be ready. 00:04:05.44\00:04:07.28 So once everything's rolling, the family pulled out. 00:04:07.28\00:04:11.71 Oh, dear. 00:04:11.71\00:04:12.78 And so Wendy and I were like left with bowl. 00:04:12.78\00:04:18.19 And we realized at that point 00:04:18.19\00:04:20.42 that we were being really stubborn 00:04:20.42\00:04:22.49 and that God wanted us to run it, 00:04:22.49\00:04:24.86 and as we would not agree, He would just work around 00:04:24.86\00:04:29.33 so that eventually we have no choice. 00:04:29.33\00:04:32.40 And we are so glad that He did that 00:04:32.40\00:04:33.84 because it has been such a blessing to us 00:04:33.84\00:04:35.94 to be such a close part in this children's life. 00:04:35.94\00:04:40.04 So the orphanage is on the same property 00:04:40.04\00:04:42.18 as all of your other ministries? 00:04:42.18\00:04:43.38 Yes, we have this 42 acre property. 00:04:43.38\00:04:45.88 And so, the orphanage is up in one corner, 00:04:45.88\00:04:48.58 it's a little village, 00:04:48.58\00:04:49.88 and then we have school next door. 00:04:49.88\00:04:52.29 Now we have the church across from the school. 00:04:52.29\00:04:54.66 Then you have your TV studio? 00:04:54.66\00:04:56.06 TV studio and housing for staff 00:04:56.06\00:04:58.39 at the bottom end of the property. 00:04:58.39\00:05:00.43 This is part of the orphanage village. 00:05:00.43\00:05:02.43 It's in a circle with the canal running down the middle. 00:05:02.43\00:05:05.53 And so we are looking at one side. 00:05:05.53\00:05:07.37 We have duplex homes, 00:05:07.37\00:05:09.80 and altogether we have seven duplexes. 00:05:09.80\00:05:12.77 Currently, we only have nine families 00:05:12.77\00:05:15.14 so we have a few spare homes. 00:05:15.14\00:05:17.05 We're using one as a classroom. 00:05:17.05\00:05:18.98 We're using two for accommodation for staff, 00:05:18.98\00:05:24.12 and then we have two homes that we use 00:05:24.12\00:05:26.25 for when we have visiting groups come 00:05:26.25\00:05:28.49 to help us out. Okay. 00:05:28.49\00:05:30.59 And so we have 90 kids in the orphanage at the moment. 00:05:30.59\00:05:34.20 Yeah, it's a pretty happy place for the kids to live. 00:05:34.20\00:05:36.30 They have swings to play on. 00:05:36.30\00:05:38.47 There is a canal where they can go fishing 00:05:38.47\00:05:40.47 during the wet season. 00:05:40.47\00:05:42.97 Lots of grass to run around on and play games on. 00:05:42.97\00:05:46.11 I noticed the houses are all brightly colored as well. 00:05:46.11\00:05:48.68 Is there a purpose behind that? 00:05:48.68\00:05:51.25 Well, when you look at nature, 00:05:51.25\00:05:53.01 you can see that God painted a lot of color into it, 00:05:53.01\00:05:56.18 and that color brings us a lot of joy. 00:05:56.18\00:05:58.35 So we figured, we wanted to make the kids lives joyful, 00:05:58.35\00:06:01.02 so we make their homes colorful as well. 00:06:01.02\00:06:03.49 So bright bold colors. Yes. 00:06:03.49\00:06:05.66 Happy colors. And washable. 00:06:05.66\00:06:09.43 So what's the home life of these children? 00:06:09.43\00:06:12.57 They have a foster mother and father, 00:06:12.57\00:06:15.20 and lots of siblings 00:06:15.20\00:06:17.31 so it could be up to 20 kids in the house. 00:06:17.31\00:06:20.81 And they do everything together as a family 00:06:20.81\00:06:23.85 so they cook together, they garden together, 00:06:23.85\00:06:26.08 they clean together. 00:06:26.08\00:06:28.15 They eat together. Eat together. 00:06:28.15\00:06:29.58 Yeah. Yeah. 00:06:29.58\00:06:30.65 And they eat rice three times a day like... 00:06:30.65\00:06:33.99 Like you do. 00:06:33.99\00:06:35.06 Like me, like any wealthier Cambodian. 00:06:35.06\00:06:38.69 The poor people will often only eat two meals a day 00:06:38.69\00:06:41.33 'cause that's all they can afford, 00:06:41.33\00:06:42.86 some will only eat one. 00:06:42.86\00:06:45.00 But we try to make sure that our kids get a good diet. 00:06:45.00\00:06:48.94 Right, yeah. 00:06:48.94\00:06:50.24 Well, with all the orphans, how do you get funds? 00:06:50.24\00:06:53.58 How do you fund this orphanage? 00:06:53.58\00:06:56.31 By faith. 00:06:56.31\00:06:58.48 So God didn't allow us to solicit funds 00:06:58.48\00:07:02.42 and so, we just ask Him to impress people to give. 00:07:02.42\00:07:05.62 What do you mean He didn't allow you 00:07:05.62\00:07:07.36 to solicit funds? 00:07:07.36\00:07:08.46 Well, He told me that was His job. 00:07:08.46\00:07:10.49 I wasn't to do that 00:07:10.49\00:07:11.59 and I wasn't to worry about money, 00:07:11.59\00:07:13.43 He would look after. 00:07:13.43\00:07:14.56 So you never asked anyone for money. 00:07:14.56\00:07:17.13 Never asked anyone specifically for money. 00:07:17.13\00:07:20.47 People have asked what can we do, 00:07:20.47\00:07:22.87 what are your needs, 00:07:22.87\00:07:24.07 then we will tell them because they have asked us 00:07:24.07\00:07:25.97 but we haven't actually said, 00:07:25.97\00:07:27.11 "We have this need, can you help?" 00:07:27.11\00:07:29.21 So you don't have big fundraising fund. 00:07:29.21\00:07:34.68 You don't spend a lot of money on fundraising. 00:07:34.68\00:07:36.15 We don't have any organization to go out and fundraise for us. 00:07:36.15\00:07:40.52 We appreciate what Jesus for Asia does 00:07:40.52\00:07:42.29 in sharing our story, 00:07:42.29\00:07:43.86 but we have an almighty God to do our fundraising 00:07:43.86\00:07:49.53 and He can touch every heart. 00:07:49.53\00:07:51.67 So we don't have to worry. 00:07:51.67\00:07:53.47 Wow! Yeah. All right. 00:07:53.47\00:07:54.57 So then we want to move into 00:07:54.57\00:07:56.07 what the Lord has asked you to do recently. 00:07:56.07\00:07:58.47 What did the Lord impress upon you 00:07:58.47\00:08:01.01 to do to start helping the orphanage 00:08:01.01\00:08:04.08 to be a little more self-sustaining? 00:08:04.08\00:08:06.55 So, about four years ago, 00:08:06.55\00:08:07.88 God impressed me through a friend 00:08:07.88\00:08:10.05 that we should build a butterfly garden 00:08:10.05\00:08:12.29 for tourists to come to visit 00:08:12.29\00:08:14.32 and tourists could pay an entry fee, 00:08:14.32\00:08:16.59 and that would provide income to help take care of the kids. 00:08:16.59\00:08:20.50 Okay, so for tourists, tell us about your area. 00:08:20.50\00:08:22.73 I know we talked about that in the last show, 00:08:22.73\00:08:24.93 but, are there tourists coming to your area? 00:08:24.93\00:08:27.94 We have the Angkor Wat temple complex 00:08:27.94\00:08:30.64 about six miles away. 00:08:30.64\00:08:33.21 And so we have at least two million tourists 00:08:33.21\00:08:36.34 coming to our town. 00:08:36.34\00:08:37.45 Two million tourists from where? 00:08:37.45\00:08:39.08 From all over the world. 00:08:39.08\00:08:40.38 Wow! But particularly Asia. 00:08:40.38\00:08:42.42 So a butterfly garden, what does that look like? 00:08:42.42\00:08:45.49 I mean... 00:08:45.49\00:08:46.55 Butterfly gardens usually come in two kinds. 00:08:46.55\00:08:48.99 One that's out in the open 00:08:48.99\00:08:50.63 and you just, whatever butterflies fly by, 00:08:50.63\00:08:53.19 they are there 00:08:53.19\00:08:54.36 and the other one is in enclosed area 00:08:54.36\00:08:56.00 where the butterflies can't escape. 00:08:56.00\00:08:57.83 And usually, chrysalises are brought into the garden 00:08:57.83\00:09:01.27 so that butterflies are released in there. 00:09:01.27\00:09:04.17 So we have gone for the second one. 00:09:04.17\00:09:07.01 Most butterfly gardens I visited are quite small, 00:09:07.01\00:09:10.71 but we felt that God wanted us to do something quite large. 00:09:10.71\00:09:14.45 And is that the idea that you had originally 00:09:14.45\00:09:16.85 or how did that grow? 00:09:16.85\00:09:18.39 Well, I went through a few ideas. 00:09:18.39\00:09:21.02 First idea was to build a cage in the shape of the butterfly 00:09:21.02\00:09:24.76 but that wasn't practical 00:09:24.76\00:09:26.76 and also nobody could see the butterfly 00:09:26.76\00:09:28.43 except people flying over in the plane 00:09:28.43\00:09:30.27 so it wasn't really a good idea. 00:09:30.27\00:09:34.07 So we decided to build a rectangular cage 00:09:34.07\00:09:37.51 and it's about half acre in size. 00:09:37.51\00:09:39.21 Wow. 00:09:39.21\00:09:40.28 So you have some pictures for us 00:09:40.28\00:09:41.54 to show what it looks like. 00:09:41.54\00:09:43.68 Yes. Okay. 00:09:43.68\00:09:45.48 So in this picture we are looking at a waterfall. 00:09:45.48\00:09:48.45 It's actually a waterfall with the terrace garden. 00:09:48.45\00:09:51.05 Each terrace has 00:09:51.05\00:09:52.12 different colors of plants in it 00:09:52.12\00:09:53.99 and it flows into a pond which will have Tilapia fish 00:09:53.99\00:09:58.79 where people can put their legs in 00:09:58.79\00:10:00.43 and get fish massage. 00:10:00.43\00:10:02.20 Where is the waterfall? 00:10:02.20\00:10:04.10 The waterfall is hidden behind those plants there. 00:10:04.10\00:10:07.00 Okay, that's not running yet? 00:10:07.00\00:10:08.37 It's not running at the moment. 00:10:08.37\00:10:09.67 Okay, so what percentage of completion are you at 00:10:09.67\00:10:12.21 at this stage as we look at this picture? 00:10:12.21\00:10:13.78 As far as the physical structure, 00:10:13.78\00:10:16.38 probably 95% 00:10:16.38\00:10:18.51 but now we have to do the finishings, etcetera. 00:10:18.51\00:10:22.22 Which is usually takes a lot more than 5% of your time. 00:10:22.22\00:10:25.45 And a lot more than 5% of the money. 00:10:25.45\00:10:29.89 Correct. Okay, so this picture? 00:10:29.89\00:10:32.03 This is just a part of the garden. 00:10:32.03\00:10:34.13 So throughout the garden 00:10:34.13\00:10:36.06 we have used around about 300 different kinds 00:10:36.06\00:10:38.87 of tropical plant. 00:10:38.87\00:10:39.97 And we tried to create lots of contrast between color 00:10:39.97\00:10:44.84 and shape, 00:10:44.84\00:10:46.37 and lots of different flowers. 00:10:46.37\00:10:48.48 But at the same time we have to provide enough flowers 00:10:48.48\00:10:50.55 for the butterflies to be able to feed from as well. 00:10:50.55\00:10:53.21 So, it's sort of mixed up with flowers for butterflies 00:10:53.21\00:10:58.65 and just flowers for beauty. 00:10:58.65\00:11:01.06 Where did you get all these flowers? 00:11:01.06\00:11:02.32 It looks like a huge amount of expense. 00:11:02.32\00:11:05.53 When God gave me the idea, 00:11:05.53\00:11:06.70 He also gave me the idea of building a plant nursery 00:11:06.70\00:11:10.37 where we could buy in one plant, 00:11:10.37\00:11:13.27 chop it off and grow many more. 00:11:13.27\00:11:15.94 And, so students have been helping me to do that 00:11:15.94\00:11:18.01 for the last four years, 00:11:18.01\00:11:19.37 and so we have thousands and thousands of plants. 00:11:19.37\00:11:23.58 And I just see God's leading in that 00:11:23.58\00:11:25.71 because when we came to plant it, 00:11:25.71\00:11:27.55 it's literally thousands and thousands of plants, 00:11:27.55\00:11:30.55 so we would tuck in trucks. 00:11:30.55\00:11:32.09 It's truckload after truckload of plants, 00:11:32.09\00:11:35.19 and it would have cost tens of thousands of dollars to do. 00:11:35.19\00:11:38.53 But because we grew our own, 00:11:38.53\00:11:40.10 we just go next door and choose what we want, 00:11:40.10\00:11:42.93 bring them in and plant in 00:11:42.93\00:11:44.00 and don't worry about how much it cost 00:11:44.00\00:11:45.47 because it was almost free. 00:11:45.47\00:11:47.04 Wow! 00:11:47.04\00:11:48.14 So this is kind of a unique view. 00:11:48.14\00:11:49.44 What's going to happen here? 00:11:49.44\00:11:51.27 This is a waterfall with turtle pond. 00:11:51.27\00:11:55.18 So right in front of where we were standing 00:11:55.18\00:11:57.51 is going to be a six feet wide waterfall dropping down, 00:11:57.51\00:12:01.52 so you will be looking back through the water 00:12:01.52\00:12:03.15 into the garden. 00:12:03.15\00:12:04.35 Kind of like a sheet of water? Like a sheet of water, yeah. 00:12:04.35\00:12:06.82 And so in this pond 00:12:06.82\00:12:10.09 and in the green grass behind the pond there, 00:12:10.09\00:12:12.46 there will be turtles and tortoises wandering around 00:12:12.46\00:12:15.16 so people can get a look at it, 00:12:15.16\00:12:16.46 some of the local animals 00:12:16.46\00:12:18.33 enjoying the beautiful butterfly paradise. 00:12:18.33\00:12:23.91 So you brought a video to share with us of the tour 00:12:23.91\00:12:27.78 walking through the whole entire 400 yards of trails 00:12:27.78\00:12:31.71 through this butterfly paradise. 00:12:31.71\00:12:33.35 Yes. 00:12:33.35\00:12:34.42 And would you walk us through 00:12:34.42\00:12:35.58 and kind of share with us what's happening 00:12:35.58\00:12:37.29 as we watch this video? 00:12:37.29\00:12:38.32 Sure, right now, we are looking through the doors 00:12:38.32\00:12:42.46 just after the ticket bay, 00:12:42.46\00:12:44.39 and at the end of the pathway we have a pond. 00:12:44.39\00:12:49.26 There's a waterfall that falls into that pond 00:12:49.26\00:12:51.83 and a glass front 00:12:51.83\00:12:53.07 and there will be baby crocodiles in there, 00:12:53.07\00:12:55.47 so people can experience 00:12:55.47\00:12:57.17 another one of the Cambodian animals. 00:12:57.17\00:13:00.58 Then as we move on, 00:13:00.58\00:13:02.54 this is lots and lots of different colored 00:13:02.54\00:13:04.31 plants and flowers. 00:13:04.31\00:13:06.51 People, when they see there's no butterflies, 00:13:06.51\00:13:08.52 I think they will be busy taking pictures of the flowers 00:13:08.52\00:13:10.42 and the plants. Interesting. 00:15:33.96\00:15:35.50 So this gives us a really unique feel. 00:15:35.50\00:15:38.07 We are hoping that lots of people will come 00:15:38.07\00:15:40.37 to our restaurant 00:15:40.37\00:15:41.50 and also learn more about health. 00:15:41.50\00:15:43.87 It will be vegetarian restaurant 00:15:43.87\00:15:45.91 and we want to teach people about healthy lifestyle as well 00:15:45.91\00:15:49.28 while they are there. 00:15:49.28\00:15:51.05 This cave actually enters the cinema. 00:15:51.05\00:15:53.92 You are going to have a cinema? 00:15:53.92\00:15:54.98 We are going to have it air-conditioned, 00:15:54.98\00:15:56.48 hopefully 4K 3D cinema 00:15:56.48\00:15:58.89 where people can get out of the heat 00:15:58.89\00:16:01.52 and learn more about the design in nature 00:16:01.52\00:16:05.33 and how there has to be a designer. 00:16:05.33\00:16:07.23 So this is your witness? 00:16:07.23\00:16:09.66 This is part of our witness, yes. 00:16:09.66\00:16:11.03 There is an empirical study 00:16:11.03\00:16:14.27 of something that could not happen by chance. 00:16:14.27\00:16:17.07 That's right, and if you look at the life of a butterfly, 00:16:17.07\00:16:20.74 you know, a butterfly lays this tiny little egg, 00:16:20.74\00:16:25.08 but it will only lay it on a specific kind of plant, 00:16:25.08\00:16:27.98 a plant that is suitable for its caterpillar to eat 00:16:27.98\00:16:30.69 and often there is only one kind. 00:16:30.69\00:16:33.52 And so when that little caterpillar hatches, 00:16:33.52\00:16:36.83 the first thing it does, 00:16:36.83\00:16:38.56 it eats its egg 00:16:38.56\00:16:39.86 because the egg case itself has food for it. 00:16:39.86\00:16:42.06 Then it goes off to eat leaves. 00:16:42.06\00:16:45.23 Depending on the kind of butterfly, 00:16:45.23\00:16:46.63 it might eat for 12 days, 14 days, 20 days, 00:16:46.63\00:16:51.27 and then it forms a chrysalis, 00:16:51.27\00:16:54.01 almost completely breaks down inside of that. 00:16:54.01\00:16:57.55 The cells will break down and it becomes soup. 00:16:57.55\00:17:01.18 And then a few cells that remained, 00:17:01.18\00:17:04.15 they start rebuilding and they build a butterfly. 00:17:04.15\00:17:08.42 So it's just mind-blowing to think of the programming, 00:17:08.42\00:17:13.76 the genetic programming that's gone into this 00:17:13.76\00:17:16.16 because first time around, 00:17:16.16\00:17:18.50 the genetics have to build the caterpillar, 00:17:18.50\00:17:20.70 second time around 00:17:20.70\00:17:21.74 they have to build the butterfly. 00:17:21.74\00:17:22.87 And not just a butterfly, but a butterfly that knows... 00:17:22.87\00:17:25.74 Knows how to fly, knows how to assemble its proboscis, 00:17:25.74\00:17:29.01 knows how to mate while flying, knows how to find a mate, 00:17:29.01\00:17:32.68 knows how to use the proboscis, 00:17:32.68\00:17:34.65 knows how to find where there is nectar to drink, 00:17:34.65\00:17:38.85 and knows how to find the right plant 00:17:38.85\00:17:40.52 to lay its eggs on, 00:17:40.52\00:17:41.76 so all of that's preprogrammed. 00:17:41.76\00:17:43.22 Amazing. 00:17:43.22\00:17:44.43 So as we want to help people say that, 00:17:44.43\00:17:46.83 "That's just not possible by chance." 00:17:46.83\00:17:49.56 Somebody had to do programming 00:17:49.56\00:17:51.70 and we believe that's the God of heaven. 00:17:51.70\00:17:53.40 Wow. Of course. 00:17:53.40\00:17:54.97 That's awesome. 00:17:54.97\00:17:56.20 Beyond that is our caterpillar laboratory, 00:17:56.20\00:17:58.31 and this is the most important room 00:17:58.31\00:18:00.58 in butterfly paradise. 00:18:00.58\00:18:01.98 Because this is where we will be raising butterflies 00:18:01.98\00:18:05.98 from eggs through to caterpillar 00:18:05.98\00:18:07.52 and then putting the chrysalis out, 00:18:07.52\00:18:09.25 so that people can watch them hatch, 00:18:09.25\00:18:12.29 and we will then release the butterflies into the park. 00:18:12.29\00:18:16.06 So we need to produce 3,000 to 4,000 butterflies 00:18:16.06\00:18:19.29 a month 00:18:19.29\00:18:20.53 there in that caterpillar laboratory. 00:18:20.53\00:18:23.26 Can you show us a butterfly in Cambodia that we don't, 00:18:23.26\00:18:26.30 maybe not have here in America? 00:18:26.30\00:18:28.64 Sure, we have a video of the Leopard Lacewing. 00:18:28.64\00:18:31.97 The Leopard Lacewing is an awesome butterfly, 00:18:31.97\00:18:34.48 it's got so many colors in to it as you can see. 00:18:34.48\00:18:37.58 It's beautiful. 00:18:37.58\00:18:38.81 And it lays all of its eggs in one place, 00:18:38.81\00:18:42.65 so this is my favorite butterfly 00:18:42.65\00:18:44.62 because when I want to collect eggs, 00:18:44.62\00:18:46.32 I just snip a couple of branch and heaver in, 00:18:46.32\00:18:49.26 and I got 100, 120 eggs right there. 00:18:49.26\00:18:51.96 Most butterflies will lay one, 00:18:51.96\00:18:53.83 go to another plant, lay another one, 00:18:53.83\00:18:55.76 so this one is really easy to collect. 00:18:55.76\00:18:57.77 The caterpillars are yellow and red striped 00:18:57.77\00:19:02.04 and they've got all these spines sticking off them. 00:19:02.04\00:19:04.64 They are really cute 00:19:04.64\00:19:05.81 and they are gregarious, they all hang out together. 00:19:05.81\00:19:08.08 And so when they are eating, they're all eating, 00:19:08.08\00:19:10.21 when they are resting, they're all resting, 00:19:10.21\00:19:12.28 and they are really easy to keep. 00:19:12.28\00:19:14.62 And so, the full lifecycle for this butterfly 00:19:14.62\00:19:18.05 is about 21 days. 00:19:18.05\00:19:19.55 So it's a pretty long-living butterfly. 00:19:19.55\00:19:22.19 That's from egg through to butterfly. 00:19:22.19\00:19:27.13 And then beyond that is the exit 00:19:27.13\00:19:29.26 and that's a souvenir shop, 00:19:29.26\00:19:31.10 so you have to go through a souvenir shop 00:19:31.10\00:19:33.17 before you can get out. 00:19:33.17\00:19:34.64 And hopefully people want to stop and buy 00:19:34.64\00:19:37.94 different framed gifts for their friends, 00:19:37.94\00:19:42.08 butterfly gifts, 00:19:42.08\00:19:43.65 some will be boxed butterflies and various other souvenirs, 00:19:43.65\00:19:49.08 some of which will be made on site. 00:19:49.08\00:19:50.69 Okay. 00:19:50.69\00:19:52.05 By some of the orphans and... By orphans, by young people. 00:19:52.05\00:19:54.92 Yeah, so we had to provide more jobs. 00:19:54.92\00:19:57.16 Nice. 00:19:57.16\00:19:58.46 And there will be the world's largest concrete caterpillar 00:19:58.46\00:20:01.93 and the world's largest concrete and steel butterfly. 00:20:01.93\00:20:04.77 Wow. 00:20:04.77\00:20:05.83 The caterpillar will be about 50 feet long 00:20:05.83\00:20:10.44 and it's going to be something really awesome. 00:20:10.44\00:20:13.34 It has horns sticking out. 00:20:13.34\00:20:14.98 It looks really prehistoric. 00:20:14.98\00:20:17.08 But it's actually a caterpillar of one of the butterflies 00:20:17.08\00:20:20.32 that will be living in the cage. 00:20:20.32\00:20:21.78 Wow! 00:20:21.78\00:20:22.88 How many people do you think it will take to run this? 00:20:22.88\00:20:25.45 I figure about 30 people. 00:20:25.45\00:20:26.96 Wow, amazing. 00:20:26.96\00:20:28.92 So that will be 30 jobs that are Sabbath free. 00:20:28.92\00:20:33.60 So our young people often have difficulty finding jobs 00:20:33.60\00:20:36.26 that are Sabbath free. 00:20:36.26\00:20:37.93 So this will be an opportunity to give them jobs. 00:20:37.93\00:20:41.50 And the funds generated from this 00:20:41.50\00:20:44.81 should be able to run our ministry 00:20:44.81\00:20:46.04 but also allow to expand. 00:20:46.04\00:20:48.21 And so as we expand that will generate more jobs, 00:20:48.21\00:20:51.28 and so young people will have opportunity 00:20:51.28\00:20:54.18 to get professional work experience 00:20:54.18\00:20:56.28 in a Christian environment. 00:20:56.28\00:20:57.65 Wow! Wow, of course. 00:20:57.65\00:20:59.12 So when you first told me about this idea about four years ago, 00:20:59.12\00:21:02.26 honestly, I thought, I didn't say this to you 00:21:02.26\00:21:04.93 but I thought you kind of going off the deep end 00:21:04.93\00:21:07.13 because you were barely able to make your monthly budget. 00:21:07.13\00:21:11.10 And so, when you told me 00:21:11.10\00:21:12.87 that this thing was going to cost like $350,000, 00:21:12.87\00:21:15.57 I am like, "There is no way." 00:21:15.57\00:21:17.04 But I didn't say anything, I thought I just sit back 00:21:17.04\00:21:18.97 and wait and watch you crash and burn. 00:21:18.97\00:21:22.48 Nice friend. Yeah. 00:21:22.48\00:21:24.55 But I didn't wanted to discourage, you know, 00:21:24.55\00:21:26.85 and who knows, maybe God would do something. 00:21:26.85\00:21:29.42 And like two months later, we got a phone call, 00:21:29.42\00:21:33.82 a man that said, "I am selling my second house, 00:21:33.82\00:21:36.39 I want to donate $160,000 to this ministry," 00:21:36.39\00:21:41.43 and it's just amazing to me, you know. 00:21:41.43\00:21:44.17 Again that after all this time, 00:21:44.17\00:21:45.73 you are still stepping out by faith. 00:21:45.73\00:21:49.17 When we believe that God wants us to do something 00:21:49.17\00:21:53.78 and we pray about it, we're sure in our hearts, 00:21:53.78\00:21:55.91 then we just go forward in faith. 00:21:55.91\00:21:57.95 And, you know, I didn't know 00:21:57.95\00:21:59.11 that gentleman that donated that money 00:21:59.11\00:22:02.35 but God laid it on his heart to give money 00:22:02.35\00:22:04.75 for making sure the orphanage was sustainable. 00:22:04.75\00:22:08.66 And that's what this project is about. 00:22:08.66\00:22:11.19 And so when we shared with him what we were doing, 00:22:11.19\00:22:14.73 he said, "Yes." 00:22:14.73\00:22:15.83 He was happy for his money to be used for that purpose. 00:22:15.83\00:22:19.77 And that money got us started 00:22:19.77\00:22:23.71 but we had to use it 00:22:23.71\00:22:25.24 for operating the orphanage as well. 00:22:25.24\00:22:27.34 We did some improvements on the orphanage 00:22:27.34\00:22:29.98 and so it ran out more than 12 months ago. 00:22:29.98\00:22:33.65 Oh, wow. And so we were going by faith. 00:22:33.65\00:22:36.45 We've had small donations, 00:22:36.45\00:22:38.65 specifically for the butterfly garden. 00:22:38.65\00:22:41.42 But it's really been a faith venture 00:22:41.42\00:22:43.53 to the point where, you know, 00:22:43.53\00:22:45.53 Friday afternoon I have to pay my builders 00:22:45.53\00:22:48.16 and it's like $500 for the week's work. 00:22:48.16\00:22:51.17 It's not a lot 00:22:51.17\00:22:52.37 but when you have nothing, it's a lot of money. 00:22:52.37\00:22:54.87 And I know that my builders, 00:22:54.87\00:22:57.61 most of them lived from week to week 00:22:57.61\00:23:00.14 so if I don't pay them, they don't have money for food. 00:23:00.14\00:23:04.31 And so it's like a big thing to me being unable to pay them. 00:23:04.31\00:23:08.35 And so I told God, "Look, God, 00:23:08.35\00:23:09.72 if you can't give me the money in the next two hours, 00:23:09.72\00:23:14.59 then I'm just going to have to stop the project 00:23:14.59\00:23:16.42 because I don't want to make the life of my builders hard." 00:23:16.42\00:23:20.23 And why did you say then in the next two hours? 00:23:20.23\00:23:22.76 Well, I had to pay them at 5 o'clock, 00:23:22.76\00:23:24.03 it's 3 o'clock in the afternoon 00:23:24.03\00:23:25.50 and it's like, there is no money in the bank yet. 00:23:25.50\00:23:28.77 So, you know, what do you do? 00:23:28.77\00:23:32.64 Yeah, you go to God. You go to God. 00:23:32.64\00:23:35.41 And twice, we have been, 00:23:35.41\00:23:37.68 one month apart the same problem happened 00:23:37.68\00:23:40.62 and somebody knocked on my door within that two-hour period 00:23:40.62\00:23:43.99 and walked in and handed me enough money 00:23:43.99\00:23:46.49 or more than enough money for that immediate need. 00:23:46.49\00:23:49.29 And that just convinced me that God wants this to happen. 00:23:49.29\00:23:53.13 Why He doesn't give me all the money upfront? 00:23:53.13\00:23:54.93 I don't know. That's His choice. 00:23:54.93\00:23:57.30 But He's proven to me that He is looking after us 00:23:57.30\00:24:00.24 and that we should keep going by faith. 00:24:00.24\00:24:02.14 Wow. 00:24:02.14\00:24:03.37 This is such a testimony to me of what God is willing to do. 00:24:03.37\00:24:07.88 And I don't think this is 00:24:07.88\00:24:09.61 just because you are a really special person. 00:24:09.61\00:24:13.18 It's just that, I mean, you are a special person 00:24:13.18\00:24:16.15 but, you know, other people, 00:24:16.15\00:24:19.25 I think God would do this for them also 00:24:19.25\00:24:22.26 if they would step out 00:24:22.26\00:24:23.46 in the same way with the same purpose, 00:24:23.46\00:24:25.13 with the same surrendered God, 00:24:25.13\00:24:28.56 you know, this is what God wants me to do, 00:24:28.56\00:24:30.47 and so therefore 00:24:30.47\00:24:31.53 we are going to step out by faith, 00:24:31.53\00:24:33.10 and it reminds me of, you know, 00:24:33.10\00:24:34.67 Jesus when He went to feed the 5,000. 00:24:34.67\00:24:38.77 It wasn't supposed to be Him feeding them. 00:24:38.77\00:24:42.08 He said to the disciples, "You feed them." 00:24:42.08\00:24:44.91 And they said, "Can't be done." 00:24:44.91\00:24:47.38 So He said, "Okay, I will do it." 00:24:47.38\00:24:49.42 Yeah, He took that small matter of food that he had 00:24:49.42\00:24:53.56 and He didn't say, "God, this is not enough." 00:24:53.56\00:24:56.09 He said, "God, thank you for what we have." 00:24:56.09\00:24:58.53 And then He began to share. 00:24:58.53\00:25:00.63 And, yeah, 00:25:00.63\00:25:01.66 that's been a really encouraging story for me 00:25:01.66\00:25:03.50 as I move forward in faith 00:25:03.50\00:25:05.83 and believing that it's God's work, 00:25:05.83\00:25:08.84 He is going to take care of it. 00:25:08.84\00:25:10.14 I just have to do my part. Yeah. 00:25:10.14\00:25:12.47 Can you imagine if 100,000 believers 00:25:12.47\00:25:16.24 got a hold of that principle, 00:25:16.24\00:25:18.08 and started stepping out and moving forward by faith? 00:25:18.08\00:25:21.05 Because other people that are doing that even today, 00:25:21.05\00:25:25.09 God is doing the same thing. 00:25:25.09\00:25:26.92 As they step out by faith and do what they can do today, 00:25:26.92\00:25:30.66 then God opens the door for the next step 00:25:30.66\00:25:32.99 and big things are happening. 00:25:32.99\00:25:34.93 That's amazing. 00:25:34.93\00:25:36.26 And it's also true that 00:25:36.26\00:25:38.20 not all of us have the same walk. 00:25:38.20\00:25:40.47 I mean, the Lord has led you and Wendy 00:25:40.47\00:25:42.24 on this particular pathway, 00:25:42.24\00:25:44.81 but our pathway has been different. 00:25:44.81\00:25:46.24 And for other people that chose to surrender everything to God, 00:25:46.24\00:25:49.04 the pathway is different. 00:25:49.04\00:25:50.75 But as you surrender in the little thing, 00:25:50.75\00:25:53.85 then the Lord can give you the next larger thing, 00:25:53.85\00:25:56.48 and the next larger thing or take you to another thing, 00:25:56.48\00:25:59.22 whatever His plan is for you. 00:25:59.22\00:26:00.76 That's right, yeah. 00:26:00.76\00:26:02.02 And what have you found, you and Wendy? 00:26:02.02\00:26:03.83 Have you found a lot of hardship, 00:26:03.83\00:26:05.86 a lot of worry, a lot of frustration? 00:26:05.86\00:26:09.83 No, we've been able to leave it all to the Lord. 00:26:09.83\00:26:14.04 We're thankful that He didn't tell us 00:26:14.04\00:26:16.07 at the very beginning of this ministry, 00:26:16.07\00:26:17.91 all the things that He wanted us to do 00:26:17.91\00:26:19.87 because it probably would have scared us off. 00:26:19.87\00:26:22.61 But as God as added one thing after another, 00:26:22.61\00:26:26.35 when we feel comfortable where we were at, 00:26:26.35\00:26:29.15 He would then take us into a new part of our life, 00:26:29.15\00:26:33.32 out of our comfort zone 00:26:33.32\00:26:34.86 and so build our faith through all these experiences. 00:26:34.86\00:26:37.86 So for us, it's been an awesome journey, 00:26:37.86\00:26:40.20 and it's brought us much closer to the Lord. 00:26:40.20\00:26:42.43 So you wouldn't have been able to attempt a project 00:26:42.43\00:26:44.33 of this magnitude at the beginning? 00:26:44.33\00:26:46.40 No. 00:26:46.40\00:26:47.47 'Cause your faith wasn't... My faith wasn't there. 00:26:47.47\00:26:50.04 I am just so glad that God chose me 00:26:50.04\00:26:53.31 and my family to do this 00:26:53.31\00:26:55.34 and I wouldn't do anything else. 00:26:55.34\00:26:57.81 Wow. What a testimony! 00:26:57.81\00:27:00.65 Well, Tim, we really appreciate you coming 00:27:00.65\00:27:02.48 and being willing to share with us 00:27:02.48\00:27:05.15 what's going on there and what God is doing. 00:27:05.15\00:27:07.39 It's such a huge encouragement to all of us 00:27:07.39\00:27:11.33 to see what God wants to do. 00:27:11.33\00:27:12.76 And, is there anything our viewers in particular 00:27:12.76\00:27:15.46 can do to help or... 00:27:15.46\00:27:18.33 We like them to pray for the success 00:27:18.33\00:27:20.20 of this butterfly project 00:27:20.20\00:27:22.97 and therefore the ongoing success 00:27:22.97\00:27:25.47 of the orphanage and the school, 00:27:25.47\00:27:29.11 the media program that we are doing. 00:27:29.11\00:27:30.91 If you would like to be involved, 00:27:32.45\00:27:34.08 please pray for SALT Ministries and for butterfly paradise 00:27:34.08\00:27:38.02 that together, all those ministries there 00:27:38.02\00:27:40.42 can be what God needs them to be 00:27:40.42\00:27:42.16 to reach out to both the people of Cambodia 00:27:42.16\00:27:45.16 as well as all the visitors and tourists 00:27:45.16\00:27:46.93 that come to that area. 00:27:46.93\00:27:48.70 If you would like to send a financial gift, 00:27:48.70\00:27:51.17 please send it to Jesus for Asia, 00:27:51.17\00:27:53.84 PO Box 1221, Collegedale, Tennessee 37315. 00:27:53.84\00:27:59.07 Call us at (423)413-7321, 00:27:59.07\00:28:03.18 or visit our website at Jesus4asia.org. 00:28:03.18\00:28:06.82 May God richly bless you 00:28:06.82\00:28:08.55 until we see you next time on Jesus for Asia Now. 00:28:08.55\00:28:11.62
