Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:21.35\00:00:24.05 Today we want to take a moment 00:00:24.05\00:00:25.45 to look at a very important part 00:00:25.45\00:00:27.26 of how we put this show together. 00:00:27.26\00:00:29.46 But first, our guest has a favorite Bible verse 00:00:29.46\00:00:32.19 we want to read together and that is Isaiah 41:10, 00:00:32.19\00:00:37.00 and I'm sure it's familiar to many of you. 00:00:37.00\00:00:39.83 "Fear thou not, for I am with thee: 00:00:39.83\00:00:42.87 Be not dismayed, for I am thy God: 00:00:42.87\00:00:45.54 I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee, yea, 00:00:45.54\00:00:49.44 I will uphold thee 00:00:49.44\00:00:51.01 with the right hand of my righteousness." 00:00:51.01\00:00:53.95 I love that verse also. 00:00:53.95\00:00:55.22 I used to read that to my children 00:00:55.22\00:00:56.55 and sing it to my children when they were young. 00:00:56.55\00:00:58.95 And it always reminded me 00:00:58.95\00:01:01.12 that God has everything in His hands, 00:01:01.12\00:01:03.66 and we will hear stories today of how God has kept our guest 00:01:03.66\00:01:08.36 and his equipment in His hands. 00:01:08.36\00:01:11.20 You know, we all love to share, 00:01:11.20\00:01:12.80 we love to share with you the video segments from Asia 00:01:12.80\00:01:15.40 and we've heard from viewers that they love to see them. 00:01:15.40\00:01:18.24 Today we're gonna be talking to one of the people 00:01:18.24\00:01:20.48 that help us make those segments. 00:01:20.48\00:01:22.61 I'd like to introduce you to Jonathan Hill. 00:01:22.61\00:01:25.35 Jonathan, welcome to the show. 00:01:25.35\00:01:27.02 Thank you for having me. 00:01:27.02\00:01:28.28 Jonathan is our foreign correspondent 00:01:28.28\00:01:30.09 here at Jesus for Asia. 00:01:30.09\00:01:31.95 And what does that mean foreign correspondent? 00:01:31.95\00:01:34.76 What do you do? 00:01:34.76\00:01:36.69 Well, I'm a videographer and I was living in America 00:01:36.69\00:01:42.30 here at the Jesus for Asia headquarters, 00:01:42.30\00:01:44.37 and would travel overseas sometimes 00:01:44.37\00:01:46.50 to make videos and then come back. 00:01:46.50\00:01:48.57 But, you know, traveling overseas from here, 00:01:48.57\00:01:51.77 there's a lot of cost involved with that, 00:01:51.77\00:01:53.58 and a lot of jetlag, 00:01:53.58\00:01:55.04 and a lot of inconveniences to doing that. 00:01:55.04\00:01:58.91 And I wanted to live overseas, 00:01:58.91\00:02:00.52 anyways I didn't want to live in America. 00:02:00.52\00:02:02.45 And so the idea of being a foreign correspondent 00:02:02.45\00:02:05.49 is living in Asia 00:02:05.49\00:02:08.19 so that I can quickly get to where I need to go 00:02:08.19\00:02:10.89 to shoot whatever projects I need to shoot, 00:02:10.89\00:02:13.46 and I'm there with the people, 00:02:13.46\00:02:15.96 and it's easier to get that work done quickly. 00:02:15.96\00:02:20.17 Okay. So where do you live? 00:02:20.17\00:02:22.14 I live in Thailand. 00:02:22.14\00:02:23.57 Okay. 00:02:23.57\00:02:25.01 And what countries have you shot video in? 00:02:25.01\00:02:28.64 I've shot in India, in Thailand, Cambodia, 00:02:28.64\00:02:32.38 and the Philippines. 00:02:32.38\00:02:33.45 And soon, I'll be going to other countries 00:02:33.45\00:02:36.18 including Indonesia and some other ones as well. 00:02:36.18\00:02:40.89 Do you enjoy the travel part? 00:02:40.89\00:02:42.89 You know, when I was younger, I always wanted to travel. 00:02:42.89\00:02:45.96 I would, you know, see pictures in my history book, 00:02:45.96\00:02:47.96 "Oh, I want to travel. 00:02:47.96\00:02:49.03 I want to go and see things." 00:02:49.03\00:02:51.00 I never thought I'd be able to 00:02:51.00\00:02:52.80 and God took that dream and He said, "Here it is. 00:02:52.80\00:02:55.47 You know, it's what I do." 00:02:55.47\00:02:56.47 "You work for Me and I send you here and there." 00:02:56.47\00:02:58.71 Yes. 00:02:58.71\00:02:59.77 So you have some equipment here. 00:02:59.77\00:03:01.84 Do you want to show us kind of how you, 00:03:01.84\00:03:04.45 what your normal work might look like sort of? 00:03:04.45\00:03:07.25 I know you have more equipment. 00:03:07.25\00:03:08.72 Right, right, I have a lot more. 00:03:08.72\00:03:10.62 But there's two phases to the work that I do. 00:03:10.62\00:03:13.52 One is shooting, the other is editing. 00:03:13.52\00:03:15.32 So this right here is basically my editing package, 00:03:15.32\00:03:18.69 just my computer and an external hard drive 00:03:18.69\00:03:21.16 which I don't have hooked up right now. 00:03:21.16\00:03:23.97 And then ear buds so I can hear and I just edit. 00:03:23.97\00:03:28.00 So I can edit on a bus, 00:03:28.00\00:03:29.37 it's hard, if it's a rough road, 00:03:29.37\00:03:31.91 but I can edit in an airplane, I can edit at home or, 00:03:31.91\00:03:34.94 you know, in a hotel room or wherever. 00:03:34.94\00:03:37.31 And that's really key to being able to, 00:03:37.31\00:03:40.05 you know, travel and still be able to edit 00:03:40.05\00:03:42.75 and work with the footage there. 00:03:42.75\00:03:44.39 As far as the shooting, this is my camera. 00:03:44.39\00:03:48.16 This is just a mic on it, 00:03:48.16\00:03:49.39 and this is kind of when I need to go somewhere 00:03:49.39\00:03:52.06 and shoot something, this is just what I run with. 00:03:52.06\00:03:55.43 It's very, very high quality and very easy to use 00:03:55.43\00:04:01.67 which is really helpful 00:04:01.67\00:04:03.14 for getting what I need quickly. 00:04:03.14\00:04:06.17 And then this right here is a piece of equipment 00:04:06.17\00:04:09.28 that has really improved the quality of the videos. 00:04:09.28\00:04:14.65 And this is a gimbal, 00:04:14.65\00:04:16.12 so you just put the camera on here and then you can walk 00:04:16.12\00:04:19.99 and it keeps the camera steady, level. 00:04:19.99\00:04:23.59 And it really, really makes the footage. 00:04:23.59\00:04:25.39 So people don't see the... 00:04:25.39\00:04:27.13 Right and... 00:04:27.13\00:04:28.16 Footsteps when you take. 00:04:28.16\00:04:29.16 And then, you know, changes and all that so... 00:04:29.16\00:04:31.20 Okay. Yeah. 00:04:31.20\00:04:32.37 Okay, do you have any idea how many of our projects 00:04:32.37\00:04:34.40 you've been able to visit and shoot video for? 00:04:34.40\00:04:37.44 Well, that's kind of hard to say, 00:04:37.44\00:04:39.54 I mean, I visited a lot of the Bible workers in India. 00:04:39.54\00:04:44.01 I've been to Chennai, Udumalpet, Tanjore 00:04:44.01\00:04:48.98 further south in Tamil Nadu. 00:04:48.98\00:04:51.25 Went to Assam 00:04:51.25\00:04:53.99 and up again new section New Delhi area. 00:04:53.99\00:04:59.29 Also the evening schools in India, 00:04:59.29\00:05:01.73 and the widow sewing school. 00:05:01.73\00:05:03.87 In Thailand, I visited almost all of the missionaries 00:05:03.87\00:05:07.84 that are there and their projects. 00:05:07.84\00:05:10.71 And in the Philippines, I haven't been there as much 00:05:10.71\00:05:13.94 because we have a team that's already working there, 00:05:13.94\00:05:17.51 and then Cambodia as well. 00:05:17.51\00:05:19.81 Okay. 00:05:19.81\00:05:20.88 Do you have a favorite video or do you have a clip 00:05:20.88\00:05:23.95 maybe to share with us? 00:05:23.95\00:05:25.42 Yeah, there's... 00:05:25.42\00:05:26.52 It's hard to pick honestly because there are so many. 00:05:26.52\00:05:31.39 But the first one 00:05:31.39\00:05:32.66 that I want to show is of the evening schools 00:05:32.66\00:05:35.63 and it was pretty amazing. 00:05:35.63\00:05:36.97 The first time, last year on my trip 00:05:36.97\00:05:39.80 when we went to the evening school, 00:05:39.80\00:05:41.50 I hadn't been shooting as much, 00:05:41.50\00:05:43.17 I was mostly editing. 00:05:43.17\00:05:44.54 And so I had the camera on the gimbal 00:05:44.54\00:05:46.64 and we're in this evening school 00:05:46.64\00:05:47.98 and for like two hours and after 45 minutes 00:05:47.98\00:05:49.98 my arm started shaking 00:05:49.98\00:05:51.18 because the camera in the gimbal is so heavy. 00:05:51.18\00:05:53.55 But this is just a montage of the, 00:05:53.55\00:05:56.52 some of the clips that I got 00:05:56.52\00:05:57.69 in the different evening schools there 00:05:57.69\00:05:59.22 and the kids eating. 00:05:59.22\00:06:01.16 That's an important part of the evening schools, 00:06:01.16\00:06:04.19 but the most important part is that 00:06:04.19\00:06:05.63 they're learning about Jesus as well. 00:06:05.63\00:06:07.30 Okay, let's go to that clip now. 00:06:07.30\00:06:09.16 It's so neat to see their precious faces 00:07:19.13\00:07:21.04 and the joy as they're eating the food 00:07:21.04\00:07:23.91 and to think about how little it costs 00:07:23.91\00:07:26.44 for each of those children to go there. 00:07:26.44\00:07:28.24 Right. How do they respond? 00:07:28.24\00:07:30.18 I mean, I see the kids smiling at you 00:07:30.18\00:07:32.05 as you're shooting the video. 00:07:32.05\00:07:34.22 How do they respond to you? 00:07:34.22\00:07:35.52 How do people respond in these different places 00:07:35.52\00:07:38.09 where you go? 00:07:38.09\00:07:39.39 Well, it is very different in different places. 00:07:39.39\00:07:41.36 In India, like just these kids especially, 00:07:41.36\00:07:45.89 most of them are like they want to be in the picture. 00:07:45.89\00:07:48.90 So if you're, you know, wanting a shot of this kid, 00:07:48.90\00:07:52.67 this kid over here sees "Oh, you know, he's taking." 00:07:52.67\00:07:55.74 And so they run and get in front 00:07:55.74\00:07:57.21 and that's not very helpful, you know. 00:07:57.21\00:07:59.31 So you have to work with them. 00:07:59.31\00:08:01.74 But in India generally, 00:08:01.74\00:08:03.18 the kids especially they want to be there, 00:08:03.18\00:08:04.78 they want to be in a shot. 00:08:04.78\00:08:07.62 The adults are not as forward, they... 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.82 Some of them in different places 00:08:10.82\00:08:12.92 they're not as open, 00:08:12.92\00:08:14.42 they're not as happy to see the camera. 00:08:14.42\00:08:16.32 And so I try to be very respectful, you know, 00:08:16.32\00:08:18.16 if they don't want me to take their picture 00:08:18.16\00:08:20.03 I'm not going to, you know. 00:08:20.03\00:08:22.23 So I try to be respectful in that regard. 00:08:22.23\00:08:24.73 But like in Thailand with the Karen people group, 00:08:24.73\00:08:27.27 a lot of them are very camera shy, 00:08:27.27\00:08:29.57 and there's kind of two extremes. 00:08:29.57\00:08:31.17 Some of them are more, you know, 00:08:31.17\00:08:33.38 forward like the Indian kids, 00:08:33.38\00:08:34.51 but a lot of them, you point the camera 00:08:34.51\00:08:36.38 and they'll turn in around you or, you know, hide. 00:08:36.38\00:08:40.65 And in Cambodia, it's kind of in between 00:08:40.65\00:08:44.12 I think, you know. 00:08:44.12\00:08:45.35 Some of them aren't and some of them are more shy. 00:08:45.35\00:08:48.86 So how do you get ready 00:08:48.86\00:08:49.89 when you're going to go on one of these shoots? 00:08:49.89\00:08:51.76 How do you, how do you get ready? 00:08:51.76\00:08:54.23 Well, there is different parts to that. 00:08:54.23\00:08:56.10 One is just the basic equipment. 00:08:56.10\00:08:58.93 You know, making sure I have hard drive space 00:08:58.93\00:09:01.57 and batteries charged, 00:09:01.57\00:09:03.30 and chargers that I need and, you know, 00:09:03.30\00:09:05.47 all the equipment in my backpack 00:09:05.47\00:09:06.88 that I'm gonna need and, you know, all of that. 00:09:06.88\00:09:09.38 That's one side. 00:09:09.38\00:09:10.61 But the more important side is really what I want to capture, 00:09:10.61\00:09:14.65 what I need to capture. 00:09:14.65\00:09:15.68 And for these shows here, 00:09:15.68\00:09:16.95 a lot of that comes from Jon talking, 00:09:16.95\00:09:18.99 okay, you know, this show about, you know, 00:09:18.99\00:09:21.42 and the evening schools or the Bible workers 00:09:21.42\00:09:22.76 or whatever it maybe, 00:09:22.76\00:09:23.93 what do we really want to portray, 00:09:23.93\00:09:25.33 how do we want to show it. 00:09:25.33\00:09:27.03 And once we've talked then I start to visualize, okay. 00:09:27.03\00:09:30.60 So, you know, what kind of shots do I need 00:09:30.60\00:09:33.80 to really portray that, 00:09:33.80\00:09:35.20 to portray what they're doing and how they're working 00:09:35.20\00:09:37.74 and the challenges that they're facing. 00:09:37.74\00:09:40.08 And a lot of it is, 00:09:40.08\00:09:42.44 you kind of have to just roll with the punches 00:09:42.44\00:09:44.41 when you get there, you know, you can't plan it 00:09:44.41\00:09:46.95 because it's not like a movie 00:09:46.95\00:09:48.82 where you have everything scripted, 00:09:48.82\00:09:50.82 you're capturing what's happening 00:09:50.82\00:09:52.69 rather than making what happen, 00:09:52.69\00:09:54.49 you know, what you want to happen. 00:09:54.49\00:09:55.66 Right. 00:09:55.66\00:09:56.73 And so there's both those aspects 00:09:56.73\00:10:00.10 of thinking and visualizing, "Okay, I want this shot. 00:10:00.10\00:10:02.66 I want this shot." 00:10:02.66\00:10:03.93 And a lot of times, once I get to a place 00:10:03.93\00:10:05.77 like if we're gonna be there for four days, 00:10:05.77\00:10:07.30 three or four days. 00:10:07.30\00:10:09.37 I'll see the surroundings and then I start thinking, 00:10:09.37\00:10:12.04 "Okay, so what kind, what shots can I get 00:10:12.04\00:10:15.31 to make an intro to this or an outro, 00:10:15.31\00:10:17.28 you know, different, you know, landscapes or, 00:10:17.28\00:10:21.08 you know, landmarks that I can use to create, 00:10:21.08\00:10:25.15 you know, a good visual product." 00:10:25.15\00:10:27.96 There is a lot that goes into it. 00:10:27.96\00:10:31.16 Well, that's neat. 00:10:31.16\00:10:32.39 It's nice to think about the projects. 00:10:32.39\00:10:34.66 I mean, to think about what they're doing, 00:10:34.66\00:10:38.70 and how to show that? 00:10:38.70\00:10:41.14 I mean, you can tell people, 00:10:41.14\00:10:42.90 we talk about what people are doing. 00:10:42.90\00:10:44.61 I mean, where I can tell somebody 00:10:44.61\00:10:45.71 what the evening schools are doing, 00:10:45.71\00:10:47.14 but to show it to them... 00:10:47.14\00:10:48.21 Right. 00:10:48.21\00:10:49.41 And to see almost firsthand, you know, it's so much better. 00:10:49.41\00:10:53.28 Yeah. 00:10:53.28\00:10:54.32 So what's the main goal 00:10:54.32\00:10:56.25 when you're going to shoot these videos? 00:10:56.25\00:11:00.09 The main goal I would say is really to help people to... 00:11:00.09\00:11:06.63 Like you said to see. 00:11:06.63\00:11:08.86 I know there was a big change in my life 00:11:08.86\00:11:11.87 when I went from hearing about people 00:11:11.87\00:11:14.50 who lived in Asia and didn't know about Jesus, 00:11:14.50\00:11:17.47 to actually going and seeing them. 00:11:17.47\00:11:19.84 And so kind of my goal is with my camera 00:11:19.84\00:11:23.75 as best I can to portray the needs that are there 00:11:23.75\00:11:27.52 and the experiences that the people are having 00:11:27.52\00:11:30.05 with people here in America 00:11:30.05\00:11:31.12 because I think a lot of times we live in a bubble, 00:11:31.12\00:11:35.66 and it's very, you know, we're so busy with everything 00:11:35.66\00:11:37.83 that's going on and it's a rat race 00:11:37.83\00:11:39.56 and everything is just crazy. 00:11:39.56\00:11:41.83 We don't really think about, you know, 00:11:41.83\00:11:43.53 what's going on in the other side of the world. 00:11:43.53\00:11:45.67 And if I can show that in a way that engages people 00:11:45.67\00:11:49.74 and they're like, "Wow! 00:11:49.74\00:11:50.74 That's really different than what it is here." 00:11:50.74\00:11:53.01 And it's really different. 00:11:53.01\00:11:54.04 Take my word for it, you know. Yes. 00:11:54.04\00:11:56.91 Just to show a little bit, it's nothing, 00:11:56.91\00:11:59.78 you know, as in depth as being there 00:11:59.78\00:12:03.12 and experiencing it yourself. 00:12:03.12\00:12:05.15 But it's in between step that I hope and I pray, 00:12:05.15\00:12:09.09 helps a lot of people to really engage more 00:12:09.09\00:12:11.53 with the need that is over there. 00:12:11.53\00:12:13.80 Right, yeah, these are real people 00:12:13.80\00:12:16.10 with real lives, real challenges, 00:12:16.10\00:12:18.13 real joys, real sorrows. 00:12:18.13\00:12:19.80 Exactly. 00:12:19.80\00:12:20.84 And, you know, when you go and you meet them 00:12:20.84\00:12:23.87 and you learn their names, if it's possible to remember 00:12:23.87\00:12:26.94 'cause some of them have very long names. 00:12:26.94\00:12:28.01 Right. 00:12:28.01\00:12:29.08 But it makes it so much more personal 00:12:29.08\00:12:31.45 and being able to see it 00:12:31.45\00:12:33.52 and share it with the people here is so important. 00:12:33.52\00:12:35.98 Right. 00:12:35.98\00:12:37.05 So okay, speaking about the need. 00:12:37.05\00:12:40.22 You know, that here at Jesus for Asia, 00:12:40.22\00:12:41.99 we have a burden for a special people group. 00:12:41.99\00:12:44.99 And it's a people group that is comprised 00:12:44.99\00:12:47.10 by over 40% of the world's population 00:12:47.10\00:12:49.96 and that's the unreached people group. 00:12:49.96\00:12:52.20 You know, we have the people group 00:12:52.20\00:12:53.54 that speaks this language or lives in this place, 00:12:53.54\00:12:55.94 but these unreached people group, 00:12:55.94\00:12:59.11 you know, groups, I guess are all over the place. 00:12:59.11\00:13:02.74 Right. 00:13:02.74\00:13:03.81 And you have a burden for them 00:13:03.81\00:13:06.78 and I know Jon has shared that burden with you, 00:13:06.78\00:13:08.95 and you've talked about it together. 00:13:08.95\00:13:10.75 What of that is your direction 00:13:10.75\00:13:15.72 with some of what you're doing with these videos? 00:13:15.72\00:13:18.49 Yeah, well, one of the ideas 00:13:18.49\00:13:20.56 that Jon and I've talked about a lot 00:13:20.56\00:13:22.20 is going to a people group 00:13:22.20\00:13:25.00 that is completely unreached by the gospel, untouched. 00:13:25.00\00:13:29.24 And to show that because you think about, 00:13:29.24\00:13:31.67 you know, Jesus when He left His disciples here 00:13:31.67\00:13:35.08 and He ascended to heaven, He said... 00:13:35.08\00:13:37.18 He gave the Gospel Commission, you know, 00:13:37.18\00:13:38.58 "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel 00:13:38.58\00:13:40.28 to every nation, tribe, tongue and people." 00:13:40.28\00:13:44.02 And if we're here in our bubble 00:13:44.02\00:13:46.32 like I was just talking about in America or, 00:13:46.32\00:13:48.56 you know, in any country, 00:13:48.56\00:13:49.62 it's very easy to be in a little bubble 00:13:49.62\00:13:52.39 and not really see too far beyond that. 00:13:52.39\00:13:53.93 Right, we think what we see is normal. 00:13:53.93\00:13:55.33 Right. 00:13:55.33\00:13:56.36 And where, wherever you're that's different, 00:13:56.36\00:13:58.63 but still we think what we see is normal. 00:13:58.63\00:14:01.00 Right, and the funny thing about the bubble, 00:14:01.00\00:14:02.74 if you think about that when you're inside the bubble, 00:14:02.74\00:14:07.01 what's outside is distorted. 00:14:07.01\00:14:08.94 You're not really seeing the clear picture. 00:14:08.94\00:14:10.68 And sometimes we have to get out of that bubble, 00:14:10.68\00:14:12.88 out of our comfort zone before we really see, 00:14:12.88\00:14:15.38 you know, what reality is outside 00:14:15.38\00:14:18.85 where we're used to. 00:14:18.85\00:14:21.99 But back to the idea of going into an unreached people group, 00:14:21.99\00:14:27.46 if we need to go and reach them somehow, 00:14:27.46\00:14:31.37 it would be helpful to know where they are, 00:14:31.37\00:14:34.70 who they are, you know, something about them. 00:14:34.70\00:14:37.24 And so the idea is to go in and find a people group, 00:14:37.24\00:14:42.54 and there's a lot of challenges, 00:14:42.54\00:14:44.21 you know, involved with this. 00:14:44.21\00:14:46.28 Language challenges and cultural challenges 00:14:46.28\00:14:49.18 because I don't want to go in and like, 00:14:49.18\00:14:50.99 you know, just be offending the people left and right 00:14:50.99\00:14:53.52 because I don't understand their culture. 00:14:53.52\00:14:56.42 So there's a lot of challenges mixing with it, 00:14:56.42\00:14:58.06 but to go and see what, how they live, 00:14:58.06\00:15:00.70 what their needs are, what could be some ways to, 00:15:00.70\00:15:03.53 you know, have open doors in reaching out to them 00:15:03.53\00:15:06.27 whether that be through health 00:15:06.27\00:15:07.57 or through children's ministries or, 00:15:07.57\00:15:09.60 you know, any number of different ways 00:15:09.60\00:15:11.97 to meet their felt needs 00:15:11.97\00:15:13.98 because that's really what opens doors, 00:15:13.98\00:15:15.51 you know, that's the way Jesus worked. 00:15:15.51\00:15:16.88 He met people's felt needs, 00:15:16.88\00:15:18.75 He mingled with them and then they were open to Him. 00:15:18.75\00:15:21.25 You know, one of the things 00:15:21.25\00:15:22.32 that I see happening in the world around us 00:15:22.32\00:15:23.99 is Satan is using media as a powerful tool for evil, 00:15:23.99\00:15:28.46 impacting people in ways they don't realize for evil. 00:15:28.46\00:15:32.39 I want to use media for God because it is a powerful tool 00:15:32.39\00:15:35.30 and it can reach a lot of people. 00:15:35.30\00:15:37.40 And that's my goal is to try and counteract 00:15:37.40\00:15:39.77 what the devil is doing by using it for God's work. 00:15:39.77\00:15:42.24 Use it for good. 00:15:42.24\00:15:43.37 Yes. Yeah. 00:15:43.37\00:15:44.64 Wow, okay. 00:15:44.64\00:15:46.71 Do you have a video to share with us at this time? 00:15:46.71\00:15:48.74 Yeah, absolutely. 00:15:48.74\00:15:49.81 So this video is about some Bible workers. 00:15:49.81\00:15:52.61 There's... 00:15:52.61\00:15:53.68 We have a lot of Bible workers in India. 00:15:53.68\00:15:55.68 This one is near Mumbai, 00:15:55.68\00:15:57.92 and we went on a Friday afternoon 00:15:57.92\00:16:00.72 and that was amazing to see. 00:16:00.72\00:16:03.83 The Bible workers have been working there 00:16:03.83\00:16:05.13 for just six months and the people were, 00:16:05.13\00:16:07.96 you know, raising their hands, yes, 00:16:07.96\00:16:10.30 Jesus is working in my life, 00:16:10.30\00:16:11.57 yes, I'm thankful to know Jesus, 00:16:11.57\00:16:13.87 and it's just really amazing to see. 00:16:13.87\00:16:15.90 Okay, let's play that at this time. 00:16:15.90\00:16:17.77 This is the most amazing program 00:16:33.32\00:16:35.89 that I've seen in a really long time. 00:16:35.89\00:16:38.69 You know, Friday afternoon, 00:16:38.69\00:16:39.93 80 or so people have gathered here. 00:16:39.93\00:16:43.93 They don't read the Bible, but they've heard the gospel, 00:16:43.93\00:16:48.90 they've heard about Jesus Christ. 00:16:48.90\00:16:50.44 And probably 80% of all the people that were here, 00:16:50.44\00:16:54.31 when asked, if Jesus had touched their lives 00:16:54.31\00:16:56.51 raise their hand. 00:16:56.51\00:16:57.65 And this is direct result of this Bible worker program. 00:16:57.65\00:17:01.18 Well, that's an amazing video. 00:17:42.86\00:17:43.96 It's so awesome to see for yourself, 00:17:43.96\00:17:46.13 you know, the people they're raising their hands 00:17:46.13\00:17:47.86 that Jesus is working in their lives, 00:17:47.86\00:17:49.46 and seeing the Bible worker at work. 00:17:49.46\00:17:52.77 And I know it's really helped to have these videos. 00:17:52.77\00:17:55.50 It makes a huge difference. 00:17:55.50\00:17:57.67 Yeah, something that, that actually happened that day 00:17:57.67\00:18:01.54 and I didn't realize it at first 00:18:01.54\00:18:03.28 but it was about a two hour drive to get there. 00:18:03.28\00:18:06.11 And as we were driving out there, 00:18:06.11\00:18:07.88 I began to not feel well. 00:18:07.88\00:18:09.82 And to not like I was going to be unable to shoot 00:18:09.82\00:18:13.19 but I was, you know, like I was getting sick. 00:18:13.19\00:18:17.19 And while we were there, 00:18:17.19\00:18:18.63 that village has actually experienced 00:18:18.63\00:18:20.06 a lot of demon possession 00:18:20.06\00:18:22.40 and evil spirits working in those people 00:18:22.40\00:18:25.23 and we saw evidence of that. 00:18:25.23\00:18:27.74 And when we left, I felt better after that. 00:18:27.74\00:18:31.77 And I was talking to Jon about it and he is like, 00:18:31.77\00:18:33.41 "You were probably being attacked by the devil." 00:18:33.41\00:18:34.74 Right. 00:18:34.74\00:18:35.81 And so it's very real over there 00:18:35.81\00:18:38.95 that, you know, Satan works in ways 00:18:38.95\00:18:41.78 that are more visible sometimes than here, 00:18:41.78\00:18:45.15 and when you're going in there on God's mission, 00:18:45.15\00:18:48.72 you have a bullseye on you so it's... 00:18:48.72\00:18:52.09 So do you pray a lot as you're getting ready to go? 00:18:52.09\00:18:55.10 Yes. And as you're going? 00:18:55.10\00:18:56.43 Yes. 00:18:56.43\00:18:57.50 Yes, there is a great need of protection 00:18:57.50\00:18:59.27 and God's power not only to help me with the filming, 00:18:59.27\00:19:02.80 you know, to get the best I can, 00:19:02.80\00:19:05.07 to get the right shots, yeah. 00:19:05.07\00:19:06.68 But also protection from Satan 00:19:06.68\00:19:08.28 because he's not happy with what's going on. 00:19:08.28\00:19:10.21 Right, he attacks you physically, 00:19:10.21\00:19:11.91 he attacks your equipment I'm sure. 00:19:11.91\00:19:13.11 Yes. 00:19:13.11\00:19:14.15 Is your preparation for shooting in the jungle, 00:19:14.15\00:19:17.02 for example with Gayle or with the Sharon's, 00:19:17.02\00:19:20.19 different from shooting in... 00:19:20.19\00:19:21.79 For example Bangkok or out in the countryside 00:19:21.79\00:19:25.96 with the Bible workers, is that preparation different? 00:19:25.96\00:19:29.00 Yeah, absolutely. 00:19:29.00\00:19:31.57 As far as the equipment goes, 00:19:31.57\00:19:32.93 the big difference between like the jungle and the city is 00:19:32.93\00:19:36.47 for instance like Travis, 00:19:36.47\00:19:38.17 I went in there and shot a video 00:19:38.17\00:19:40.58 and I had to hike 12 miles through the mud, 00:19:40.58\00:19:42.34 and it was rainy season so it could rain in any moment. 00:19:42.34\00:19:45.41 And so I had my whole backpack, 00:19:45.41\00:19:47.62 I had everything in bags with lots of, you know, 00:19:47.62\00:19:51.09 stuff to try and keep the moisture out. 00:19:51.09\00:19:53.59 And a bag over and everything, that was a lot of work 00:19:53.59\00:19:56.99 and then I had to, 00:19:56.99\00:19:58.06 of course hike it in and it's like 37 pounds. 00:19:58.06\00:20:02.03 That's very different than going to Bangkok 00:20:02.03\00:20:04.33 where I don't really have to worry about 00:20:04.33\00:20:05.70 that my backpack is water resistant enough 00:20:05.70\00:20:08.20 that even if I have to run, you know, 00:20:08.20\00:20:10.17 short distance through rainstorm, 00:20:10.17\00:20:11.47 it's okay, but not 12 miles, you know. 00:20:11.47\00:20:14.54 And as far as portraying it, one of the challenges 00:20:14.54\00:20:17.11 that I faced at Gayle's was the roads are so steep 00:20:17.11\00:20:20.58 and I wanted to show that 00:20:20.58\00:20:21.88 because, you know, there's just stuff 00:20:21.88\00:20:23.79 that you don't understand 00:20:23.79\00:20:25.59 until you like see it in person you're like, 00:20:25.59\00:20:27.19 "Wow, that's crazy." 00:20:27.19\00:20:28.29 Yeah. 00:20:28.29\00:20:29.32 But I really tried to portray 00:20:29.32\00:20:32.19 just how steep it was and how difficult it was. 00:20:32.19\00:20:36.16 I don't know, I don't think it does it justice. 00:20:36.16\00:20:37.87 Yeah. 00:20:37.87\00:20:38.93 But, you know, you do the best you can. 00:20:38.93\00:20:41.20 And as far as the city it's easier in some ways 00:20:41.20\00:20:45.31 because there's, you know, everything is right there, 00:20:45.31\00:20:50.15 and so there's lots of different things 00:20:50.15\00:20:51.48 that you can go to shoot to add in. 00:20:51.48\00:20:54.72 But there's lots of dynamics. 00:20:54.72\00:20:56.99 Yeah, lots of extra noise. 00:20:56.99\00:20:58.85 Right, and that can be a big challenge. 00:20:58.85\00:21:02.72 Some other things are like just, you know, 00:21:02.72\00:21:06.63 life is different over there, takes a little getting used to, 00:21:06.63\00:21:09.00 once you get used to it, it's not so bad. 00:21:09.00\00:21:11.70 But there's lots of unique challenges 00:21:11.70\00:21:13.77 in working with the people, you know, 00:21:13.77\00:21:15.20 there's language barriers, there's cultural barriers 00:21:15.20\00:21:18.07 in understanding the culture and how you can relate to them 00:21:18.07\00:21:21.68 because they do things different, you know, 00:21:21.68\00:21:23.21 and you want to show them a biblical way 00:21:23.21\00:21:26.72 but not a western way. 00:21:26.72\00:21:28.52 You want to make the gospel story real to them 00:21:28.52\00:21:33.22 but not westernized. 00:21:33.22\00:21:35.86 So there's a lot of, lot of challenges 00:21:35.86\00:21:38.16 in reaching out to those people. 00:21:38.16\00:21:40.06 But the most important thing is staying connected to Jesus 00:21:40.06\00:21:42.93 and He can lead through all those challenges. 00:21:42.93\00:21:45.33 I like that verse you read, says, He's always with us, 00:21:45.33\00:21:48.97 you know, "Fear not, be not dismayed, 00:21:48.97\00:21:50.61 I'm thy God, I will uphold thee, I will strengthen thee." 00:21:50.61\00:21:53.61 And that has been a precious promise to me 00:21:53.61\00:21:55.74 through the many experiences. 00:21:55.74\00:21:57.31 Okay, we have another video to share at this time. 00:21:57.31\00:22:00.65 Can you tell us about it? 00:22:00.65\00:22:02.38 Sure. 00:22:02.38\00:22:03.45 This was actually after I had gone over 00:22:03.45\00:22:06.86 and this was on the first trip that I went over 00:22:06.86\00:22:08.82 to be a foreign correspondent, 00:22:08.82\00:22:10.86 it was only two months that I was there. 00:22:10.86\00:22:13.40 It was the first project with all my new equipment 00:22:13.40\00:22:15.93 that God provided for and it was incredible. 00:22:15.93\00:22:19.83 It's with Gayle out in the mountains 00:22:19.83\00:22:22.50 and the work she's doing is just amazing 00:22:22.50\00:22:24.27 because, you know, she's doing the medical work 00:22:24.27\00:22:27.34 but at the same time she's praying with the patients, 00:22:27.34\00:22:29.34 she's living the gospel, 00:22:29.34\00:22:31.01 so they can see 00:22:31.01\00:22:32.05 what a Christian really is like. 00:22:32.05\00:22:34.18 And she's one of those people that you see here 00:22:34.18\00:22:37.09 and you know she's been with Jesus that morning. 00:22:37.09\00:22:39.62 She has a light in her eyes, a smile on her face, 00:22:39.62\00:22:43.09 she's sharing the love of Jesus, 00:22:43.09\00:22:44.76 and it's just amazing, amazing to see. 00:22:44.76\00:22:47.86 Okay, let's watch that. 00:22:47.86\00:22:49.03 One young man came one time and he said, 00:22:56.10\00:22:58.14 why is it that when I go to the doctor 00:22:58.14\00:23:00.74 they give me paracetamol and I don't get well. 00:23:00.74\00:23:04.08 But when I come here, you give me paracetamol and I get well. 00:23:04.08\00:23:09.78 We're not here because it's easy. 00:23:09.78\00:23:12.25 Or for adventure. 00:23:12.25\00:23:15.66 Or to be appreciated. 00:23:15.66\00:23:16.73 Or to be comfortable. 00:23:16.73\00:23:19.49 We're here because many people in these mountains... 00:23:19.49\00:23:23.03 Have never heard the name of Jesus. 00:23:23.03\00:23:25.43 And they're steeped in superstition and fear. 00:23:25.43\00:23:28.67 They need medical help. 00:23:28.67\00:23:31.91 But there's nobody else to help them. 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.44 So God sent us here to help these people. 00:23:34.44\00:23:39.05 And He's doing great things. 00:23:39.05\00:23:41.28 I'm so thankful to God 00:23:44.82\00:23:46.15 because there is no need that we have 00:23:46.15\00:23:49.09 that God hasn't already provided for, 00:23:49.09\00:23:51.43 He never fails us, He's always with us, 00:23:51.43\00:23:54.23 and He's given us the best job 00:23:54.23\00:23:57.00 that we in the world of anybody else 00:23:57.00\00:23:59.17 because we get to tell people about Jesus everyday. 00:23:59.17\00:24:04.14 Well, it is wonderful to see firsthand 00:24:04.14\00:24:07.18 or almost what Gayle is doing over there, 00:24:07.18\00:24:09.98 you know, to see the people she's working 00:24:09.98\00:24:12.18 with, the environment, the challenges, the roads 00:24:12.18\00:24:16.05 what she has to deal with on a daily basis. 00:24:16.05\00:24:18.25 The video makes it so much more real to us here. 00:24:18.25\00:24:21.62 I mean, we can tell a story but to tell it with video 00:24:21.62\00:24:24.76 is so much more powerful. 00:24:24.76\00:24:26.19 Yeah. 00:24:26.19\00:24:28.06 What are some of the challenges that you deal with 00:24:28.06\00:24:30.97 in telling the story of someone like Gayle 00:24:30.97\00:24:33.10 who's a foreign missionary 00:24:33.10\00:24:35.64 versus somebody that's a local missionary 00:24:35.64\00:24:37.37 like a Bible worker or something, 00:24:37.37\00:24:38.71 is there a difference or is there... 00:24:38.71\00:24:41.44 Is it more challenging for you? 00:24:41.44\00:24:44.11 How does that work? 00:24:44.11\00:24:45.15 Yeah, there's definitely a difference 00:24:45.15\00:24:46.98 because like with Gayle, 00:24:46.98\00:24:48.78 you know, she's American, I'm American, 00:24:48.78\00:24:50.59 we understand the American mindset. 00:24:50.59\00:24:52.65 So going in I capture the way she interacts with the people 00:24:52.65\00:24:57.73 and with the, you know, culture and all of that. 00:24:57.73\00:25:00.70 So it's easier for me to do that. 00:25:00.70\00:25:04.17 Also I understand the American mindset 00:25:04.17\00:25:06.87 and that's key to being able to really portray 00:25:06.87\00:25:09.84 what would shock Americans 00:25:09.84\00:25:11.21 because there's a lot of them there 00:25:11.21\00:25:12.27 that shocks Americans, you know. 00:25:12.27\00:25:13.78 Some of the things that she does 00:25:13.78\00:25:15.01 and I haven't seen this 00:25:15.01\00:25:16.34 because I haven't been out there in rainy season 00:25:16.34\00:25:17.88 but she tells stories of, 00:25:17.88\00:25:19.15 you know, hiking through the mud barefoot 00:25:19.15\00:25:21.78 with leeches hanging on her feet, okay. 00:25:21.78\00:25:23.45 You don't really imagine that here in America as much, 00:25:23.45\00:25:27.36 and you can't imagine the mud that's over there. 00:25:27.36\00:25:31.03 And if you did go there, 00:25:31.03\00:25:32.09 you'd have to have special equipment 00:25:32.09\00:25:33.80 because of the rain. 00:25:33.80\00:25:34.83 Right, right. 00:25:34.83\00:25:35.86 So I see that the videos that I'm making 00:25:35.86\00:25:40.47 as kind of a bridge between, 00:25:40.47\00:25:43.20 you know, people here and people there, 00:25:43.20\00:25:45.64 whether it be a foreign missionary, 00:25:45.64\00:25:47.08 you know, an American missionary 00:25:47.08\00:25:48.21 or from somewhere else 00:25:48.21\00:25:49.74 working cross culturally, 00:25:49.74\00:25:51.55 or the national workers working in their own culture. 00:25:51.55\00:25:54.72 It's kind of a bridge 00:25:54.72\00:25:55.85 and it's harder to plant the foundation 00:25:55.85\00:25:57.59 on the other side of the bridge with the national workers, 00:25:57.59\00:26:00.76 because I don't understand it as well. 00:26:00.76\00:26:03.22 But God is good, I do the best I can 00:26:03.22\00:26:05.89 and He does the rest, 00:26:05.89\00:26:07.40 you know, He makes up for what I can't do 00:26:07.40\00:26:09.43 and to be truthful I can't do anything, 00:26:09.43\00:26:11.83 you know, it's because of God that I have breath today. 00:26:11.83\00:26:14.14 And so it's His power that makes all this happen. 00:26:14.14\00:26:16.81 Right. 00:26:16.81\00:26:17.87 What about your process of all this 00:26:17.87\00:26:21.21 is especially challenging for you 00:26:21.21\00:26:22.98 or satisfying for you? 00:26:22.98\00:26:26.95 Yeah, there's a bit of a cycle, and could almost be round cycle 00:26:26.95\00:26:32.32 but when I go and I shoot 00:26:32.32\00:26:35.49 a project or videos or anything, 00:26:35.49\00:26:37.59 it's like I love it, it's like I do 00:26:37.59\00:26:40.26 and I'm like this is why I just love what I do. 00:26:40.26\00:26:43.40 And then you have to edit. 00:26:43.40\00:26:44.70 And it's not that I really dislike editing, 00:26:44.70\00:26:47.90 it just takes so long many times 00:26:47.90\00:26:50.41 and it's just a whole lot of work. 00:26:50.41\00:26:52.91 But then when the video is finished and it goes out, 00:26:52.91\00:26:55.44 I get a whole another level of satisfaction 00:26:55.44\00:26:57.35 knowing that that work is finished, my work is finished 00:26:57.35\00:27:00.22 and now it's up to God to just let that video go 00:27:00.22\00:27:02.85 and work on the hearts of people. 00:27:02.85\00:27:04.79 Well, Jonathan, I appreciate you being here today 00:27:04.79\00:27:06.86 and sharing with us, 00:27:06.86\00:27:07.82 and I know there will be people in the kingdom 00:27:07.82\00:27:11.16 because of the work that you are doing, 00:27:11.16\00:27:14.00 sharing the stories of the people out there. 00:27:14.00\00:27:16.13 That is my prayer and if there is, 00:27:16.13\00:27:17.80 I know there will be, I agree, 00:27:17.80\00:27:19.93 but it's only because of God 00:27:19.93\00:27:21.47 because there is nothing I can do for that 00:27:21.47\00:27:23.20 but only God working through me 00:27:23.20\00:27:25.17 and that's my desire 00:27:25.17\00:27:26.57 to just let Him work through me everyday. 00:27:26.57\00:27:28.31 Yeah, with the hands and feet. 00:27:28.31\00:27:30.35 Yes, with the hands and feet of Jesus working in his stead. 00:27:30.35\00:27:33.58 Yes. 00:27:33.58\00:27:35.52 Well, I want to thank you for joining us today 00:27:35.52\00:27:37.52 for Jesus for Asia Now. 00:27:37.52\00:27:38.95 And if the Lord has impressed you 00:27:38.95\00:27:40.86 to be a part of enabling Jonathan 00:27:40.86\00:27:44.19 to do the work that he's doing or any of our other projects, 00:27:44.19\00:27:47.40 you can send your tax deductible love gift 00:27:47.40\00:27:49.40 to Jesus for Asia, 00:27:49.40\00:27:50.70 PO Box 1221, Collegedale, Tennessee 37315. 00:27:50.70\00:27:56.00 Call us at 423-413-7321 00:27:56.00\00:27:59.94 or visit our website at Jesus4Asia.org. 00:27:59.94\00:28:04.11 May God richly bless you 00:28:04.11\00:28:05.65 until we see you again next week 00:28:05.65\00:28:07.42 on Jesus for Asia Now. 00:28:07.42\00:28:09.08
