Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:21.32\00:00:23.75 In this series we explore the projects 00:00:23.79\00:00:25.55 that God is doing through the ministry of Jesus for Asia. 00:00:25.59\00:00:28.62 We started over 12 years ago 00:00:28.66\00:00:30.06 when my husband resigned his job at a college 00:00:30.09\00:00:32.56 and we stepped out by faith 00:00:32.59\00:00:33.76 knowing that if God calls, He will provide. 00:00:33.80\00:00:37.10 Since then the Lord has led us 00:00:37.13\00:00:38.63 into over 50 projects throughout much of Asia. 00:00:38.67\00:00:42.10 And today we will spend some quality time 00:00:42.14\00:00:44.11 with the missionary that is leading a new project 00:00:44.14\00:00:46.68 that is very special 00:00:46.71\00:00:47.88 and will gain much fruit for eternity. 00:00:47.91\00:00:51.15 My special guest today is spearheading this project 00:00:51.18\00:00:53.82 and is visiting with us all the way from Cambodia. 00:00:53.85\00:00:56.99 I'd like to introduce Miranda Lundby to you. 00:00:57.02\00:00:59.85 Hello, Miranda, and welcome to the show. 00:00:59.89\00:01:01.79 Hello, Natalie. 00:01:01.82\00:01:02.99 And we want to start out 00:01:03.02\00:01:04.13 learning a little more about you. 00:01:04.16\00:01:06.33 And I know that there's a lot to the story 00:01:06.36\00:01:08.43 and then we also need to talk about the project. 00:01:08.46\00:01:11.43 Okay, so where were you from? 00:01:11.47\00:01:12.87 Where did you grow up at? 00:01:12.90\00:01:14.64 I grew up in Southeastern Montana 00:01:14.67\00:01:17.27 in a small town on a farm for most of my life. 00:01:17.31\00:01:21.71 Okay. 00:01:21.74\00:01:22.78 Now how many siblings do you have? 00:01:22.81\00:01:25.21 How many are in your family? 00:01:25.25\00:01:26.68 I have an older brother and then three younger sisters, 00:01:26.72\00:01:28.95 so there's five of us. 00:01:28.98\00:01:30.02 Okay. 00:01:30.05\00:01:31.02 Are you all biological children to your parents? 00:01:31.05\00:01:34.42 No, actually, three of us are biological 00:01:34.46\00:01:37.99 and the two youngest 00:01:38.03\00:01:39.16 are adopted through foster care. 00:01:39.19\00:01:41.56 Okay. 00:01:41.60\00:01:42.60 Can you give us a little bit 00:01:42.63\00:01:43.80 of the leading of the Lord in your life? 00:01:43.83\00:01:46.07 Like, did you grow up 00:01:46.10\00:01:48.04 always wanting to be a missionary to Cambodia or... 00:01:48.07\00:01:51.41 Well, most of my childhood, I wanted to be a missionary. 00:01:51.44\00:01:54.81 My mom would read us stories 00:01:54.84\00:01:56.98 about missionaries from all over the world 00:01:57.01\00:01:59.15 but especially missionaries from Southeast Asia 00:01:59.18\00:02:02.15 because my great grandparents were missionaries in Burma. 00:02:02.18\00:02:07.49 And my grandpa grew up as a missionary kid 00:02:07.52\00:02:09.46 so we heard a lot of stories from a lot of my family. 00:02:09.49\00:02:12.89 So you've been interested in missions for a long time? 00:02:12.93\00:02:17.13 So where did you first go? 00:02:17.17\00:02:18.53 What kind of mission trips have you been on? 00:02:18.57\00:02:20.80 Well, I really wanted to go on a mission trip 00:02:20.84\00:02:23.67 and my parents finally decided it was time to do something. 00:02:23.71\00:02:27.14 And so I went to Honduras 00:02:27.18\00:02:29.14 on a Share Him speaking mission trip 00:02:29.18\00:02:31.98 and preaching evangelistic series with my sister, 00:02:32.01\00:02:35.08 we co-preached for a few weeks. 00:02:35.12\00:02:38.52 And it was just, it was a really incredible experience. 00:02:38.55\00:02:41.92 There was baptisms at the end 00:02:41.96\00:02:44.29 and we're still really close to the church down there, 00:02:44.33\00:02:46.36 we communicate with them. 00:02:46.39\00:02:47.76 And the pastor from that church 00:02:47.83\00:02:50.70 actually came to the US to visit, 00:02:50.73\00:02:54.37 he had lived in the US before. 00:02:54.40\00:02:55.50 And he came to visit, came up to Montana to visit us, 00:02:55.54\00:02:58.34 and then he baptized my dad. 00:02:58.37\00:02:59.71 Oh, how nice. 00:02:59.74\00:03:01.14 So that was a huge blessing 00:03:01.18\00:03:03.24 but that was also my first experience with missions. 00:03:03.28\00:03:06.72 Okay, and you've been on several trips since then. 00:03:06.75\00:03:09.05 Yeah, I went and worked, 00:03:09.08\00:03:11.82 I was like substitute teacher to Maddocks School in Cambodia, 00:03:11.85\00:03:16.46 and then I went to missionary training school in Belize 00:03:16.49\00:03:20.96 for three months. 00:03:21.00\00:03:22.90 Okay. 00:03:22.93\00:03:23.93 And what are you studying, what's your education? 00:03:23.97\00:03:26.37 Are you going to college now? Are you? 00:03:26.40\00:03:28.57 Yeah, I graduated a year ago with my bachelor's degree, 00:03:28.60\00:03:32.47 and now I'm studying a master's in education through IS 00:03:32.51\00:03:36.58 which is an Adventist institution in the Philippines. 00:03:36.61\00:03:39.41 Okay. 00:03:39.45\00:03:40.42 So what is your most recent mission experience 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.19 because you're here in America 00:03:44.22\00:03:45.85 and you're studying in the Philippines 00:03:45.89\00:03:48.69 but you just came back from Cambodia, 00:03:48.72\00:03:51.96 so how does this work? 00:03:51.99\00:03:53.33 This last year, I worked as a missionary in Cambodia 00:03:53.36\00:03:56.46 with another organization 00:03:56.50\00:03:57.97 and I lived in a Muslim village. 00:03:58.00\00:04:01.07 I studied my studies online, 00:04:01.10\00:04:03.00 so I was able to study 00:04:03.04\00:04:04.27 and work over there at the same time. 00:04:04.31\00:04:05.87 But I lived in the Muslim village 00:04:05.91\00:04:07.51 with a Muslim family, 00:04:07.54\00:04:09.24 and in this village I was the only English speaker, 00:04:09.28\00:04:13.38 so I was able to really get into the culture. 00:04:13.42\00:04:17.62 You had to learn the language in order to communicate at all. 00:04:17.65\00:04:20.29 Yes, yes. 00:04:20.32\00:04:21.56 Yes. 00:04:21.59\00:04:22.52 But I also taught three English classes a day 00:04:22.56\00:04:26.26 and then helped with some medical stuff 00:04:26.29\00:04:28.53 and basic Bible working. 00:04:28.56\00:04:31.07 Tell me the story 00:04:31.10\00:04:32.33 of how you got involved with Jesus for Asia? 00:04:32.37\00:04:35.80 How you came to know about Jesus for Asia? 00:04:35.84\00:04:38.51 So after my first mission trip, 00:04:38.54\00:04:42.01 I came home and I really wanted to go and do more mission work. 00:04:42.04\00:04:46.48 And I wanted to go before but afterwards I was obsessed, 00:04:46.51\00:04:50.39 I couldn't think about anything else, 00:04:50.42\00:04:52.35 and I felt like my parents were holding me back 00:04:52.39\00:04:55.49 from doing mission work. 00:04:55.52\00:04:57.09 And, of course, they told me that God gives you parents, 00:04:57.13\00:05:00.73 and if He wants you to do mission work, 00:05:00.76\00:05:03.53 that they're not going to hold you back. 00:05:03.57\00:05:04.83 There's no way that they have enough power 00:05:04.87\00:05:06.84 to keep you from doing what God's plan is for you. 00:05:06.87\00:05:09.10 And that really struck me and I've taken that to heart 00:05:09.14\00:05:12.41 because nothing can keep you from God's plan, and... 00:05:12.44\00:05:16.21 If you choose to follow it, right? 00:05:16.24\00:05:17.41 Yes, yes, if you choose. 00:05:17.45\00:05:19.61 So I was praying 00:05:19.65\00:05:21.52 and really just desperate to know 00:05:21.55\00:05:24.42 that God had a plan for me 00:05:24.45\00:05:26.76 and so I asked Him to show me His plan even if I wasn't, 00:05:26.79\00:05:29.62 you know, able to do it right then 00:05:29.66\00:05:30.79 that He had something for me to do. 00:05:30.83\00:05:34.30 And I had a dream 00:05:34.30\00:05:36.43 and in my dream I was walking towards my house 00:05:36.46\00:05:39.30 and there was this tall man that just appeared. 00:05:39.33\00:05:42.10 Tall, shiny, 00:05:42.14\00:05:44.47 I was immediately struck, 00:05:44.51\00:05:45.61 I couldn't move, I couldn't speak, 00:05:45.64\00:05:49.78 and I was kneeling, 00:05:49.81\00:05:51.25 and it was just immediate changed. 00:05:51.28\00:05:55.12 And I remember thinking 00:05:55.15\00:05:57.59 that I should be like afraid in the situation 00:05:57.62\00:06:00.22 because I was completely paralyzed, 00:06:00.26\00:06:02.89 but I had no fear 00:06:02.92\00:06:04.49 and I was just at peace. 00:06:04.53\00:06:07.50 And the man told me 00:06:07.56\00:06:10.17 that I needed to find a man named Elder Wood 00:06:10.20\00:06:13.13 and a missionary group from Tennessee. 00:06:13.17\00:06:17.57 So when I woke up from this dream 00:06:17.61\00:06:19.11 I was just shaking, 00:06:19.14\00:06:20.11 and I ran in and I told my parents all about it, 00:06:20.14\00:06:22.61 and they believed me, 00:06:22.64\00:06:26.72 you know, as far as thinking it was a real dream, 00:06:26.75\00:06:31.22 and we all agreed that God would lead the way. 00:06:31.25\00:06:35.56 So you were 15 at this time? 00:06:35.59\00:06:37.06 I was 15. Yeah, I was 15 years old. 00:06:37.09\00:06:39.76 And we searched on the internet 00:06:39.79\00:06:43.23 and asked people and could find nobody 00:06:43.26\00:06:46.13 named Elder Wood from Tennessee 00:06:46.17\00:06:49.24 or anything connected to it. 00:06:49.27\00:06:52.34 So that was a bit discouraging on one side, 00:06:52.37\00:06:54.88 also made me nervous like it wasn't a real dream. 00:06:54.91\00:06:59.31 But the dream never went away, 00:06:59.35\00:07:00.72 like it was constantly in my mind. 00:07:00.75\00:07:03.59 We talk about it every few months, 00:07:03.62\00:07:05.29 and I'd bring it up to my mom again 00:07:05.32\00:07:07.12 and we'd agree that if it was God's dream 00:07:07.16\00:07:09.76 that He would lead. 00:07:09.79\00:07:11.26 And this last year when I was 20, 00:07:11.29\00:07:14.93 so five years later, I was colporteuring, 00:07:14.93\00:07:18.67 I had already signed up with the other organization 00:07:18.70\00:07:20.80 to go and do missions. 00:07:20.84\00:07:22.17 And I was at a camp meeting, 00:07:22.20\00:07:26.71 about to go up for testimony time 00:07:26.74\00:07:29.11 and my friend messaged me 00:07:29.14\00:07:31.95 for like the fifth or sixth time 00:07:31.98\00:07:33.62 asking me if I want to come to faith camp 00:07:33.65\00:07:35.98 or telling me that I should come to faith camp 00:07:36.02\00:07:38.45 really pushing it, 00:07:38.49\00:07:39.79 and I told him no before and yet he still was asking. 00:07:39.82\00:07:45.36 And so I turned to my mom and I told her, 00:07:45.39\00:07:49.03 "He keeps asking for faith camp." 00:07:49.06\00:07:51.73 And she says... And what's faith camp? 00:07:51.77\00:07:53.80 Faith camp is JFA camp meeting 00:07:53.84\00:07:58.57 where missionaries come and speak 00:07:58.61\00:08:00.24 and there's revival and prayer 00:08:00.28\00:08:03.98 and lots of good things go on in faith camp. 00:08:04.01\00:08:07.42 But it was in... 00:08:07.45\00:08:08.52 So you were interested but you had made a commitment. 00:08:08.55\00:08:11.05 Yeah. Yeah. 00:08:11.09\00:08:12.12 I was too busy 00:08:12.15\00:08:13.32 I was colporteuring right up until when I went to training 00:08:13.36\00:08:16.29 and so there was no time available from my perspective. 00:08:16.32\00:08:21.13 And so my mom said, "No, you can't go." 00:08:21.16\00:08:25.50 And I said, "I know." 00:08:25.53\00:08:27.20 And then she said, "Who is he even speaking at faith camp?" 00:08:27.24\00:08:33.54 And I said, "I don't know." 00:08:33.58\00:08:35.71 And so... Okay, though why would I know? 00:08:35.74\00:08:37.88 Yeah. Yeah. 00:08:37.91\00:08:39.08 So I looked it up on my phone just sitting there 00:08:39.11\00:08:42.62 and the first speaker on the list was Jon Wood. 00:08:42.65\00:08:48.39 And the name just struck me 00:08:48.42\00:08:49.52 because I had never met somebody 00:08:49.56\00:08:50.79 named Wood at all before. 00:08:50.83\00:08:52.29 So it was like, this is something, right? 00:08:52.33\00:08:56.97 And so I turned the phone to my mom and showed her 00:08:57.00\00:09:01.47 and she was like, "Who are they with? 00:09:01.50\00:09:04.81 Who is this guy with?" 00:09:04.84\00:09:06.51 And I looked at it and he says, 00:09:06.54\00:09:08.68 "Well, he's with the ministries with Jesus for Asia." 00:09:08.71\00:09:12.18 So then the next question 00:09:12.21\00:09:13.62 was where are they based, where they're from? 00:09:13.65\00:09:16.58 And so I ended up going to another website 00:09:16.62\00:09:19.12 and looking it up and it's sure enough Tennessee. 00:09:19.15\00:09:21.99 Then later my friend told me 00:09:22.02\00:09:23.63 that in Asia they call him Elder Wood 00:09:23.66\00:09:27.03 so all of it was answered just perfectly 00:09:27.10\00:09:30.67 within an hour or so. 00:09:30.70\00:09:32.87 And I told, my mom and I were just shocked 00:09:32.90\00:09:37.17 so we went told my dad and my dad said, 00:09:37.21\00:09:40.21 "Well, you need to get a hold of him. 00:09:40.24\00:09:41.44 The dream told you to find him, you need to like reach out." 00:09:41.48\00:09:45.51 So I couldn't find an e-mail but I found Facebook. 00:09:45.55\00:09:50.82 So I sent him a long message on Facebook 00:09:50.85\00:09:55.12 trying to tell him who I was 00:09:55.16\00:09:57.63 and also what I was doing, what my plans were 00:09:57.66\00:10:00.90 but I wasn't available. 00:10:00.93\00:10:02.76 But then I was supposed to find him, 00:10:02.80\00:10:04.40 told him about the dream 00:10:04.43\00:10:06.50 and sent it, 00:10:06.53\00:10:07.64 and waited for him to come back. 00:10:07.67\00:10:09.67 And he saw it, and he didn't answer right away 00:10:09.70\00:10:13.21 so I was concerned, I'm like, 00:10:13.24\00:10:14.91 "Mom, he's going to think I'm crazy. 00:10:14.94\00:10:16.78 That's so horrible." 00:10:16.81\00:10:17.81 Like you sent a letter to somebody and... 00:10:17.85\00:10:21.35 And Facebook tells you he read it. 00:10:21.38\00:10:23.25 Yeah, and Facebook tells it's been read 00:10:23.28\00:10:24.99 and there's no response at all. 00:10:25.02\00:10:26.86 And she's like again, you know, "If it's a God thing, 00:10:26.89\00:10:30.89 then don't worry about it." 00:10:30.93\00:10:33.66 And so I waited and he responded 00:10:33.70\00:10:37.60 and invited me to speak in faith camp, 00:10:37.63\00:10:39.80 so I ended up getting to go to faith camp, 00:10:39.83\00:10:42.47 and blessings were poured out of that faith camp 00:10:42.50\00:10:45.61 and that's how I got led to. 00:10:45.64\00:10:49.91 And Jon cited the stories is quite something too. 00:10:49.94\00:10:53.01 I guess I should share it. 00:10:53.05\00:10:54.15 You should. 00:10:54.18\00:10:55.72 So in 2010, when you had that dream, 00:10:55.75\00:10:58.52 he was praying for somebody 00:10:58.55\00:11:00.89 that would have a master's in education 00:11:00.92\00:11:03.39 that could help with our schools 00:11:03.43\00:11:04.83 because we had several different schools 00:11:04.86\00:11:06.46 in different areas that need 00:11:06.49\00:11:08.23 somebody with a master's in education 00:11:08.26\00:11:10.20 to help oversee them. 00:11:10.23\00:11:11.77 So that they can be in good standing with the government 00:11:11.80\00:11:14.57 especially in Thailand and so, he was praying for somebody 00:11:14.60\00:11:18.21 and we didn't know anybody at that point 00:11:18.24\00:11:20.01 that was interested or free to go. 00:11:20.04\00:11:24.18 And so anyway it was kind of interesting 00:11:24.21\00:11:27.22 and also that the timing of you 00:11:27.25\00:11:28.58 sending the message on Facebook was God's time. 00:11:28.62\00:11:30.75 Yeah. 00:11:30.79\00:11:31.75 Because Jon just the day before was Father's Day 00:11:31.79\00:11:34.36 and he was telling us how about, it was impossible, 00:11:34.39\00:11:37.79 it was not enough people would come, 00:11:37.83\00:11:40.50 it would cost too much for the number of people 00:11:40.53\00:11:43.37 that would come to do faith camp. 00:11:43.40\00:11:44.63 Yeah, it wasn't worth it, we should cancel faith camp, 00:11:44.67\00:11:47.40 you know, all of this and then he gets your letter 00:11:47.44\00:11:49.57 and he's like, "I've been rebuked. 00:11:49.60\00:11:53.27 God has smacked me, you know." 00:11:53.31\00:11:55.61 Because it just showed him that God was using it 00:11:55.64\00:11:59.78 to connect people that needed to be connected 00:11:59.81\00:12:04.85 and to answer your prayer from so many years ago. 00:12:04.89\00:12:08.59 And so it was really a neat series of God things, 00:12:08.62\00:12:13.80 you know, how to put that, I don't know. 00:12:13.83\00:12:15.76 I remember sharing with my mom how it came to me is that, 00:12:15.80\00:12:18.63 you know, God could have done all of this 00:12:18.67\00:12:21.07 and brought me to work with Jesus for Asia 00:12:21.10\00:12:23.14 without giving me the dream. 00:12:23.17\00:12:24.87 He could have lead a completely different way, 00:12:24.91\00:12:27.34 but He gave me the dream because He loved me 00:12:27.38\00:12:30.41 and she reminded me 00:12:30.45\00:12:31.71 that was also because she loved them, 00:12:31.75\00:12:33.75 and she loved you guys, or He loved you guys. 00:12:33.78\00:12:36.58 So in his love 00:12:36.62\00:12:38.99 it was showing us in building our faith 00:12:39.02\00:12:41.06 and showing us how important we are to Him. 00:12:41.09\00:12:42.89 Right and how important His work 00:12:42.92\00:12:44.96 and His other children. 00:12:44.99\00:12:46.03 Yes. 00:12:46.06\00:12:47.03 So were you always just dead set, 00:12:47.10\00:12:49.00 you're going to do missions or did you have any time 00:12:49.03\00:12:51.23 where you got a little discouraged in the way 00:12:51.27\00:12:55.34 or you started to go astray, I could put it that way maybe? 00:12:55.37\00:12:58.71 When I was in college, 00:12:58.74\00:13:01.31 there was just a lot of hard stuff 00:13:01.34\00:13:02.81 going on in our church 00:13:02.84\00:13:04.58 and just a lot of, you know, disunity, and problems, 00:13:04.61\00:13:11.42 and personal, and corporate in the church 00:13:11.45\00:13:15.12 and people weren't happy, 00:13:15.16\00:13:17.23 you know, they weren't enjoying it. 00:13:17.26\00:13:19.19 And go to church and nobody would leave with any... 00:13:19.23\00:13:23.47 It didn't seem like any blessing at all. 00:13:23.50\00:13:25.20 If anything, it was tiring to go to church 00:13:25.23\00:13:27.27 and so I stopped. 00:13:27.30\00:13:28.70 I stopped going to church and I was in college still, 00:13:28.74\00:13:31.37 I stopped going to come home 00:13:31.41\00:13:33.34 because I knew if I was home they'd force me, 00:13:33.38\00:13:36.58 kind of expect you to go to church. 00:13:36.61\00:13:38.11 So then I just kind of started making excuses 00:13:38.15\00:13:40.25 to not go home and visit on weekends 00:13:40.28\00:13:42.65 and I just stay in the city 00:13:42.68\00:13:45.09 and kind of hide, hide from the world, 00:13:45.12\00:13:47.96 I didn't want to break Sabbath necessarily, 00:13:47.99\00:13:50.53 but I didn't want to go to church. 00:13:50.56\00:13:52.13 And I started experimenting 00:13:52.16\00:13:56.00 with different groups of friends and such 00:13:56.03\00:14:00.14 and God really, you know, impressed upon my parents 00:14:00.17\00:14:04.97 that that they needed to talk to me 00:14:05.01\00:14:07.64 until they were just like blue in the face. 00:14:07.68\00:14:09.98 And I didn't want to listen to them, 00:14:10.01\00:14:12.05 I was very angry with the church 00:14:12.08\00:14:15.02 and that all the stuff could happen. 00:14:15.05\00:14:17.59 Were it's supposed to be, you know, God's church, 00:14:17.62\00:14:20.42 but God showed me through that, 00:14:20.46\00:14:22.59 you know, you have to look at God always and His work. 00:14:22.62\00:14:26.76 And not at men. 00:14:26.80\00:14:27.76 Not at men because men, 00:14:27.83\00:14:30.83 they will fail every single time. 00:14:30.87\00:14:31.97 Every time. 00:14:32.00\00:14:33.47 But God doesn't and His work doesn't fail 00:14:33.50\00:14:36.84 in the end He is, you know, He wins. 00:14:36.87\00:14:39.51 So they actually... 00:14:39.54\00:14:41.78 We met a guy at a different church 00:14:41.81\00:14:44.48 that we were visiting one random Sabbath 00:14:44.51\00:14:46.48 who was going to Cambodia 00:14:46.51\00:14:48.25 and within five minutes of me meeting him, 00:14:48.28\00:14:51.25 he invited me to go 00:14:51.29\00:14:52.75 and I wanted to travel and do all that. 00:14:52.79\00:14:54.49 And it just felt like, 00:14:54.52\00:14:57.46 you know, this was a chance to get out of where I was. 00:14:57.49\00:15:02.20 But it was also a chance to not be doing the wrong things to, 00:15:02.23\00:15:06.87 you know, there's a... 00:15:06.90\00:15:07.87 You want to grasp at something 'cause you don't, 00:15:07.90\00:15:10.24 I don't think any kid wants to be rebellious like, 00:15:10.27\00:15:14.64 because there's a guilt that goes with it 00:15:14.68\00:15:16.64 but they want something else. 00:15:16.68\00:15:19.01 Something real. Something real. 00:15:19.05\00:15:21.08 And so I grasped that and I went 00:15:21.12\00:15:25.12 and so God really changed my life 00:15:25.15\00:15:28.32 and I was reconverted. 00:15:28.36\00:15:31.63 Okay, in Cambodia? 00:15:31.66\00:15:32.69 In Cambodia. Yes. 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.66 Wonderful. 00:15:34.73\00:15:35.76 So tell us about the church in Cambodia? 00:15:35.80\00:15:38.33 The church in Cambodia is struggling. 00:15:38.37\00:15:40.64 It's a really impoverished church. 00:15:40.67\00:15:42.57 It's hard to work in some of those countries 00:15:42.60\00:15:45.41 where the religion in the country 00:15:45.44\00:15:47.31 is pretty much takes up 00:15:47.34\00:15:48.54 people's entire lives, you know. 00:15:48.58\00:15:51.11 Buddhism in Cambodia is in their educational system, 00:15:51.15\00:15:57.25 it's in their health care system, 00:15:57.29\00:15:58.92 it's in their government, it's in their holidays. 00:15:58.95\00:16:02.22 So everything that's culturally 00:16:02.26\00:16:04.53 there is even is, is connected to that religion. 00:16:04.56\00:16:08.00 So trying to get out of that is really difficult 00:16:08.03\00:16:10.90 especially when there's not a stable 00:16:10.93\00:16:12.83 or stable place to fall 00:16:12.87\00:16:14.67 or a community that they can hold on to. 00:16:14.70\00:16:17.51 And there have been evangelistic times in Cambodia 00:16:17.54\00:16:21.81 where people have come in 00:16:21.84\00:16:23.35 and the church was up to 6,000 people 00:16:23.38\00:16:25.31 but in recent years 00:16:25.35\00:16:27.08 it's fallen down to about 3,000 members again. 00:16:27.12\00:16:29.38 Wow. Yeah. 00:16:29.42\00:16:31.29 So the young people... 00:16:31.32\00:16:33.46 They have in Cambodia more elementary schools 00:16:33.49\00:16:37.09 then they have Adventist high schools. 00:16:37.13\00:16:39.23 So they have Adventist elementary schools 00:16:39.26\00:16:41.50 where kids are coming in 00:16:41.53\00:16:42.53 and they're learning about the truth 00:16:42.56\00:16:45.13 and but they're learning it in Khmer for the most part. 00:16:45.17\00:16:48.70 Which is their language. 00:16:48.74\00:16:49.67 Which is their language, the Cambodian language 00:16:49.70\00:16:52.54 and if they don't speak English going on to a high school, 00:16:52.57\00:16:57.61 in Adventist high school is a lot more difficult. 00:16:57.65\00:16:59.68 It's not really an availability there. 00:16:59.71\00:17:02.52 So after they leave sixth grade, 00:17:02.55\00:17:05.59 if they don't speak English, 00:17:05.62\00:17:07.46 then they just kind of get lost back into the world 00:17:07.49\00:17:10.49 or back into dysfunctional family life 00:17:10.53\00:17:13.13 or public school system. 00:17:13.16\00:17:16.63 And they aren't mentored through their teen years 00:17:16.67\00:17:20.84 so they lose the faith very easily at that time. 00:17:20.87\00:17:26.11 So you're telling us about all these young people 00:17:26.14\00:17:28.84 that are leaving the church. 00:17:28.88\00:17:30.25 Do you have a plan or an idea 00:17:30.28\00:17:32.25 of how to help stem the outflow? 00:17:32.28\00:17:35.42 Well, God had the idea. 00:17:35.45\00:17:38.69 I've always wanted to work with schools and such, 00:17:38.72\00:17:41.26 but I visited Tim Maddocks, 00:17:41.29\00:17:44.16 and I told him about my desire to continue in Cambodia 00:17:44.19\00:17:47.50 and missions and working with school projects 00:17:47.56\00:17:50.13 or starting new school projects. 00:17:50.17\00:17:52.17 And he pulled out the strategic plan 00:17:52.20\00:17:55.04 for the Cambodia Adventist mission 00:17:55.07\00:17:56.77 and he showed me 00:17:56.81\00:17:57.74 that they wanted to start a boarding academy. 00:17:57.77\00:18:01.08 And he suggested that I go and tell the president 00:18:01.11\00:18:05.55 like or offer the president my services. 00:18:05.58\00:18:08.55 So this is the Cambodia Adventist mission school plan, 00:18:08.58\00:18:12.55 but I went in to offer to help 00:18:12.59\00:18:15.99 and the president basically told me, 00:18:16.02\00:18:18.76 you know, we have no money, 00:18:18.79\00:18:21.26 the Cambodia Adventist mission 00:18:21.30\00:18:22.86 outside of pastor's salaries has no money, zero. 00:18:22.90\00:18:27.84 Yeah, zero per year. 00:18:27.87\00:18:29.14 Yeah. 00:18:29.17\00:18:30.61 I offered to help and he told me, 00:18:30.64\00:18:34.51 "Do you want to teach at the school 00:18:34.54\00:18:36.24 like once it's built." 00:18:36.28\00:18:37.28 And I said, "No, I want to help start it." 00:18:37.31\00:18:39.35 And so then he gave me 00:18:39.38\00:18:41.35 the initial plans and guidelines 00:18:41.38\00:18:43.55 that they were going by 00:18:43.59\00:18:44.62 so that we could start a school. 00:18:44.65\00:18:46.59 Okay. 00:18:46.62\00:18:47.66 So your job right now? 00:18:47.69\00:18:50.23 Is fund raising and planning, 00:18:50.26\00:18:52.86 so partnering with Jesus for Asia 00:18:52.89\00:18:55.30 to raise funds for their school 00:18:55.33\00:18:57.73 and then making the plans ahead of time 00:18:57.77\00:19:01.17 to prepare for the purchasing the building of the project. 00:19:01.20\00:19:04.67 Okay, so it's a partnership 00:19:04.71\00:19:06.04 with the Cambodia Adventist mission. 00:19:06.07\00:19:07.54 Yes. 00:19:07.58\00:19:08.61 And you have a mentor though 00:19:08.64\00:19:10.45 and you mentioned him once already 00:19:10.48\00:19:11.88 or a couple times already in the show, Tim Maddocks. 00:19:11.91\00:19:15.38 Yeah, Tim and Wendy, 00:19:15.42\00:19:17.29 they have a school and orphanage in studio 00:19:17.32\00:19:21.66 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. 00:19:21.69\00:19:23.63 And they're also starting a large project, 00:19:23.66\00:19:27.10 Butterfly Paradise. 00:19:27.13\00:19:28.40 It will be like a butterfly aviary 00:19:28.43\00:19:30.90 to draw tourists 00:19:30.93\00:19:32.83 and the funds that they receive from that project and goal 00:19:32.87\00:19:38.64 will go back into the education, 00:19:38.67\00:19:41.31 Adventist education system in Cambodia. 00:19:41.34\00:19:43.78 So his mission is for all the schools in Cambodia 00:19:43.81\00:19:47.08 to be a help how he can. 00:19:47.12\00:19:49.32 But it's a really big project that's really cool though. 00:19:49.35\00:19:51.49 Yeah. It's an amazing, it's like the ark. 00:19:51.52\00:19:55.02 You know, like seeing Noah's Ark sitting there, 00:19:55.06\00:19:57.33 you walk through it and you're just like, 00:19:57.36\00:19:59.56 "This is really big." 00:19:59.59\00:20:01.10 You know, you hear about it and it sounds, 00:20:01.13\00:20:02.66 "Oh, that's neat." 00:20:02.70\00:20:03.73 But then you see it and you walk through it 00:20:03.77\00:20:05.53 and you're just like this guy has big faith. 00:20:05.57\00:20:08.70 Huge faith. 00:20:08.74\00:20:10.87 Well, their whole campus is faith building 00:20:10.91\00:20:12.91 and then this is just like... 00:20:12.94\00:20:15.08 Another one. Another, on top of it. 00:20:15.11\00:20:17.41 Yeah. 00:20:17.45\00:20:18.51 So okay, so we're talking about the boarding academy 00:20:18.55\00:20:22.48 and you're trying to, you've been looking for land? 00:20:22.52\00:20:25.62 Yes. 00:20:25.65\00:20:26.76 We actually found land that we would like to purchase. 00:20:26.79\00:20:31.43 It's just south of Batumbung, Cambodia, 00:20:31.46\00:20:35.46 which is just west of the Tonle Sap Lake 00:20:35.50\00:20:38.13 in Cambodia. 00:20:38.17\00:20:39.23 So the land that we would like to purchase 00:20:39.27\00:20:43.14 is near some mountains, 00:20:43.17\00:20:45.07 it's high enough that it won't flood every year 00:20:45.11\00:20:47.84 like the rice paddies do. 00:20:47.88\00:20:49.31 But it has really fertile ground 00:20:49.34\00:20:51.15 so we can do agriculture with the students 00:20:51.18\00:20:54.18 to help be self-supporting for the school 00:20:54.22\00:20:56.32 and also to have a work program 00:20:56.35\00:20:57.79 and agricultural classes for the students. 00:20:57.82\00:21:01.39 But there is, it's also close enough to the city 00:21:01.42\00:21:03.96 that we can go into the city and do evangelism 00:21:03.99\00:21:06.83 and partner with the church in the city, 00:21:06.86\00:21:10.67 with the students. 00:21:10.70\00:21:12.27 Okay, so it's gonna be academy level 00:21:12.30\00:21:15.97 or like seventh grade through twelfth grade. 00:21:16.00\00:21:19.27 It'll be seven through twelfth grade 00:21:19.31\00:21:20.88 because the elementary schools, 00:21:20.91\00:21:23.28 a lot of the elementary schools in Cambodia 00:21:23.31\00:21:26.28 are the Adventist ones end at sixth grade. 00:21:26.31\00:21:29.38 And that's where students need to 00:21:29.42\00:21:31.75 have somewhere to go back in. 00:21:31.79\00:21:32.82 They need to have a place to go. Yeah. 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.06 Okay, so then seven through twelfth. 00:21:34.09\00:21:36.69 Now you talked about this property, 00:21:36.73\00:21:39.86 is all the property that you found 00:21:39.89\00:21:41.70 like owned by one person or...? 00:21:41.73\00:21:45.00 Yeah. No. No? 00:21:45.03\00:21:46.40 Okay, so that's another complicating factor. 00:21:46.43\00:21:48.90 Yeah. 00:21:48.94\00:21:50.01 We do have to buy from multiple owners. 00:21:50.04\00:21:53.84 There are larger plots thankfully 00:21:53.88\00:21:57.01 but they're farmland 00:21:57.05\00:21:58.75 so there are multiple fields that we'd have to buy. 00:21:58.78\00:22:01.18 We want to get around 50 hectares 00:22:01.22\00:22:04.09 which is over a 100 acres 00:22:04.12\00:22:06.19 and we have to buy from multiple people 00:22:06.22\00:22:09.49 at the same time. 00:22:09.52\00:22:10.66 So, okay. 00:22:10.69\00:22:11.73 So you're talking about an academy. 00:22:11.76\00:22:14.96 What's the next idea after that? 00:22:15.00\00:22:16.63 Once you guys have the academy up and running 00:22:16.67\00:22:20.27 in the care of the Adventist mission there, 00:22:20.30\00:22:22.44 what's the next plan? 00:22:22.47\00:22:24.37 This is where it gets even more exciting 00:22:24.41\00:22:26.64 because we're hoping to get enough land 00:22:26.68\00:22:29.51 to also be able to build 00:22:29.54\00:22:32.28 a Bible college university in Cambodia. 00:22:32.31\00:22:35.35 It will be the first Seventh-day Adventist College 00:22:35.38\00:22:39.92 in Cambodia 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.06 and it will be in the Cambodian language. 00:22:41.09\00:22:44.06 It's also part 00:22:44.09\00:22:45.33 of the strategic plan of the mission. 00:22:45.36\00:22:47.60 And they want to have training for pastors, 00:22:47.66\00:22:51.60 Bible workers and teachers and health workers. 00:22:51.63\00:22:55.60 Okay. 00:22:55.64\00:22:56.64 So you're also fund raising for a vehicle? 00:22:56.67\00:22:59.64 But that's been taken care of. 00:22:59.67\00:23:01.28 Yeah. 00:23:01.31\00:23:02.48 And you have a story that you want to share with us? 00:23:02.51\00:23:03.51 I do. 00:23:03.55\00:23:05.05 We had part of the funds that we needed, 00:23:05.08\00:23:08.55 and we had a donor 00:23:08.58\00:23:10.12 who was willing to match up to 5,000 00:23:10.15\00:23:14.02 to finish out our goal. 00:23:14.06\00:23:17.49 But then we went, I, myself, my mother 00:23:17.53\00:23:21.10 and another missionary 00:23:21.13\00:23:22.16 went to speak in a small town in Montana 00:23:22.20\00:23:25.83 and we didn't really expect anything to come of it, 00:23:25.87\00:23:27.84 you know, small faith that we have. 00:23:27.87\00:23:30.57 And we went out there to share 00:23:30.61\00:23:34.31 and we were going to stay in an apartment 00:23:34.34\00:23:35.81 of some members that live there, 00:23:35.84\00:23:38.05 and they handed us a check Friday night 00:23:38.08\00:23:42.48 and when we ended up opening, it was for $12,000. 00:23:42.52\00:23:48.42 And the next day they told us 00:23:48.46\00:23:49.79 the story of where the money came from. 00:23:49.82\00:23:52.89 They said that they had been praying 00:23:52.93\00:23:55.23 for a vehicle for themselves, 00:23:55.26\00:23:57.20 they're not well off, 00:23:57.23\00:23:58.87 they do a lot of mission work themselves 00:23:58.90\00:24:01.50 so they give continually, 00:24:01.54\00:24:03.81 so they don't just have money sitting around. 00:24:03.84\00:24:06.78 And the husband looked in the bank account 00:24:06.81\00:24:10.51 and there was $12,000 there that he hadn't put there. 00:24:10.55\00:24:13.78 Wow. 00:24:13.82\00:24:14.92 And he told his wife, you know, pray 00:24:14.95\00:24:17.42 about using this $12,000 for our vehicle 00:24:17.45\00:24:22.26 and they both prayed about it separately 00:24:22.29\00:24:24.16 and they came back 00:24:24.19\00:24:25.33 and they were just convicted 00:24:25.36\00:24:27.03 that it wasn't for their vehicle 00:24:27.10\00:24:29.46 and they continued to pray. 00:24:29.50\00:24:30.80 And they had heard about my story from camp meeting 00:24:30.83\00:24:35.10 where my mother spoke 00:24:35.14\00:24:36.64 and they felt impressed 00:24:36.67\00:24:38.07 that this money was for Miranda's vehicle fund. 00:24:38.11\00:24:42.41 Wow. 00:24:42.44\00:24:43.65 So they gave that and God just put money in their account... 00:24:43.68\00:24:45.88 Just put it there. 00:24:45.91\00:24:46.92 They couldn't find out where it came from, 00:24:46.95\00:24:48.62 it seemed to be supposed to be there 00:24:48.65\00:24:50.49 even to the bank. 00:24:50.52\00:24:51.52 He knew they were faithful 00:24:51.55\00:24:52.62 to put it where it was supposed to go so he gave it. 00:24:52.65\00:24:55.52 Yeah. Oh, God is good. 00:24:55.56\00:24:57.66 That is so awesome. Yes. 00:24:57.69\00:24:59.59 So tell us again the price of the land? 00:24:59.63\00:25:01.53 I think you said it once already. 00:25:01.56\00:25:03.43 The price of the land 00:25:03.47\00:25:05.03 will probably be around $130,000. 00:25:05.07\00:25:08.30 Okay, and the total including 00:25:08.34\00:25:10.27 buildings and everything you're looking at...? 00:25:10.31\00:25:12.84 About $400,000 to get everything up and running. 00:25:12.87\00:25:15.21 Okay, that's the estimate for the academy. 00:25:15.24\00:25:17.18 For the academy.
