Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:22.05\00:00:24.59 I'm Natalie Wood 00:00:24.62\00:00:25.69 and I'm here with my husband Jon. 00:00:25.72\00:00:27.59 Hello, love. Hi, darling, how are you today? 00:00:27.62\00:00:29.62 I'm doing fine. You look beautiful. 00:00:29.66\00:00:31.53 Oh, thank you. Where did you get that dress? 00:00:31.56\00:00:33.96 This is from India. Really? 00:00:34.00\00:00:35.76 And where did you get yours. 00:00:35.80\00:00:37.13 This is from India also. 00:00:37.17\00:00:38.93 All right. What's that called? 00:00:38.97\00:00:40.40 It's called a saree. 00:00:40.44\00:00:42.04 Yeah, this is a sherwani in some languages. 00:00:42.07\00:00:44.74 Yeah. 00:00:44.77\00:00:46.11 So are we talking about India today then? 00:00:46.14\00:00:48.54 We are talking about India. Right. 00:00:48.58\00:00:50.78 Yes and our viewers 00:00:50.81\00:00:51.91 that were watching on our previous show 00:00:51.95\00:00:54.72 know that this is part two. 00:00:54.75\00:00:56.08 Yep. 00:00:56.12\00:00:57.12 And we promised, in fact we gave 00:00:57.15\00:00:58.42 a little spoiler on that show 00:00:58.45\00:01:00.86 and we promised that we would share some more videos, 00:01:00.89\00:01:03.66 this time the story of a little girl 00:01:03.69\00:01:06.19 that goes to one of our evening school 00:01:06.23\00:01:07.66 so that video is coming up in a little bit. 00:01:07.66\00:01:09.43 Yep, in that video Jonathan 00:01:09.46\00:01:11.30 who is our foreign correspondent, 00:01:11.33\00:01:13.17 he actually went to her home as she went home from school, 00:01:13.20\00:01:16.87 the evening school, 00:01:16.91\00:01:18.14 and then he came back in the morning 00:01:18.17\00:01:20.11 and documented her getting up how she starts the day, 00:01:20.14\00:01:23.68 cooks the meal and works with her family 00:01:23.71\00:01:26.28 and then heads off to school. 00:01:26.31\00:01:28.12 Okay. 00:01:28.15\00:01:29.18 So it's going to be pretty amazing to see the life 00:01:29.22\00:01:32.55 that she lives and her family live. 00:01:32.59\00:01:34.52 Okay. This is an epic night. 00:01:34.56\00:01:36.56 This is an epic event to see, you know, 00:01:36.59\00:01:39.13 because how often do you get to go into somebody else's home 00:01:39.16\00:01:42.30 that's so far distant removed from us. 00:01:42.33\00:01:44.43 Right. 00:01:44.47\00:01:45.73 Let's see what it's really like. 00:01:45.77\00:01:46.94 Yeah. Yeah. 00:01:46.97\00:01:48.20 Well, I didn't get to be there for that. 00:01:48.24\00:01:49.74 I've gone into some of those homes, 00:01:49.77\00:01:51.17 but I wasn't there for that, 00:01:51.21\00:01:52.47 so I'm looking forward to that video. 00:01:52.51\00:01:54.18 Yeah, it's pretty amazing, pretty moving. 00:01:54.21\00:01:56.54 But first, we're talking about our evening schools. 00:01:56.58\00:01:59.11 Yes. 00:01:59.15\00:02:00.25 And for those of our viewers 00:02:00.28\00:02:01.48 that did not see the previous episode, 00:02:01.52\00:02:03.25 our evening schools we have, in the evening 00:02:03.28\00:02:06.35 tutoring in the local language, 00:02:06.39\00:02:09.02 the school work that they receive 00:02:09.06\00:02:10.43 from the local school, 00:02:10.46\00:02:12.33 and then a worship time 00:02:12.36\00:02:13.86 where they learn memory verses and sing songs 00:02:13.90\00:02:16.77 and hear character building stories, 00:02:16.80\00:02:19.23 morals stories as well as Bible stories, 00:02:19.27\00:02:22.67 and then they have a free meal. 00:02:22.70\00:02:23.81 That's correct. 00:02:23.84\00:02:24.97 And some, some of these kids don't actually go to school 00:02:25.01\00:02:27.24 during the day. 00:02:27.28\00:02:28.31 Some of them do and they get help in their studies, 00:02:28.34\00:02:30.28 other kids don't go to school, 00:02:30.31\00:02:32.41 so this is all they get. 00:02:32.45\00:02:33.98 Okay. So they just get a little bit in the evenings. 00:02:34.02\00:02:36.02 Yeah. 00:02:36.05\00:02:37.09 Yeah, but they do get that nutritious meal 00:02:37.12\00:02:38.79 which is so important in a country 00:02:38.82\00:02:40.86 where that has one third of the world's 00:02:40.89\00:02:43.46 undernourished people in it. 00:02:43.49\00:02:45.79 7,000 Indians die every day due to hunger. 00:02:45.83\00:02:50.30 And so the kids growing up, you know, 00:02:50.33\00:02:53.50 sometimes families have more than one child 00:02:53.54\00:02:55.80 or even one extra mouth to feed is a huge strain 00:02:55.84\00:02:58.87 on the family's ability to provide. 00:02:58.91\00:03:02.14 And so... 00:03:02.18\00:03:03.38 They make so little most of them. 00:03:03.41\00:03:05.75 There are so many that make a dollar 00:03:05.78\00:03:08.48 or just barely more or even less. 00:03:08.52\00:03:12.32 The schools also are to battle literacy of course. 00:03:12.35\00:03:15.59 Yeah. Literacy is a big challenge. 00:03:15.62\00:03:17.79 So what is the literacy rate in India, do you know? 00:03:17.83\00:03:20.46 According to the best statistics that we could find 00:03:20.50\00:03:24.23 37 percent of all the world's illiterate people live in India 00:03:24.27\00:03:28.67 which means that about 280, almost 300 million people 00:03:28.70\00:03:33.64 in India don't know how to read and write. 00:03:33.68\00:03:35.91 Wow. Yeah, that's huge. 00:03:35.94\00:03:38.35 Yeah, it is. 00:03:38.38\00:03:40.22 Can you ask him how he likes his work? 00:03:40.25\00:03:42.02 Since they don't have any proper job, 00:03:51.43\00:03:54.30 they hate to do this 00:03:54.30\00:03:55.33 but they still go ahead and perform the activities 00:03:55.36\00:03:59.73 of collecting the waste from the streets. 00:03:59.77\00:04:05.77 They consider this is their fate to do this. 00:04:05.81\00:04:08.88 If they had a proper job 00:04:13.42\00:04:14.82 they wish they do that job than this. 00:04:14.85\00:04:17.82 So he was picking through the trash and he'd gone 00:04:17.85\00:04:20.36 and collected it from the side of the road. 00:04:20.39\00:04:22.59 What was he doing? 00:04:22.62\00:04:23.73 He was like taking some pieces of it 00:04:23.76\00:04:25.36 and putting it in that other bag 00:04:25.39\00:04:27.30 and then some he put behind him I noticed. 00:04:27.36\00:04:29.66 Yeah, he's looking for things that he can recycle 00:04:29.70\00:04:31.67 that he can sell for recycling, so plastic things like that, 00:04:31.70\00:04:34.97 he can take it down to the local recycle shop 00:04:35.00\00:04:37.17 and sell it for money 00:04:37.21\00:04:38.24 and then that's how he can buy food 00:04:38.27\00:04:39.67 and survive through the day. 00:04:39.71\00:04:41.01 Okay. 00:04:41.04\00:04:42.08 The clothes that they wear, 00:04:42.11\00:04:43.21 the clothes that he wears right there 00:04:43.24\00:04:44.55 he found in the trash. 00:04:44.58\00:04:46.21 I saw, I saw a stack of clothes 00:04:46.25\00:04:48.75 that had bugs crawling all through it 00:04:48.78\00:04:51.35 and that was for the daughter not of this boy 00:04:51.39\00:04:54.69 but someone else's family, and this is what they have, 00:04:54.72\00:04:58.76 you know, whatever they can find is what they use 00:04:58.79\00:05:01.03 and whatever they can sell on the recycle 00:05:01.06\00:05:03.83 is what they run the family for the day, 00:05:03.87\00:05:06.27 and we did a episode of India face to face 00:05:06.30\00:05:09.37 from this particular settlement which is right near the river. 00:05:09.40\00:05:13.04 And this is one of the things that caused us 00:05:13.07\00:05:15.68 to really want to start the school 00:05:15.71\00:05:18.08 is this kid doesn't have the opportunities, 00:05:18.11\00:05:20.82 and so maybe if he had been able to go through our school, 00:05:20.85\00:05:24.12 we would have connected with him 00:05:24.15\00:05:25.32 and been able to help him find other, 00:05:25.35\00:05:28.26 other options in life. 00:05:28.29\00:05:30.33 And given him the hope and given him, you know, 00:05:30.36\00:05:32.79 what he needed to not just to survive, 00:05:32.83\00:05:35.00 barely survive through the day, 00:05:35.03\00:05:36.30 but actually you know go forward. 00:05:36.33\00:05:39.27 Right. And to know about eternity. 00:05:39.30\00:05:41.07 Absolutely. 00:05:41.10\00:05:42.60 Yeah that's the biggest thing obviously. 00:05:42.64\00:05:45.34 As Christians that we know 00:05:45.37\00:05:46.78 that there is a life beyond this life 00:05:46.81\00:05:48.68 and it isn't just another life like this one. 00:05:48.71\00:05:50.58 Right. 00:05:50.61\00:05:51.71 Or another thousand lives like this one, 00:05:51.75\00:05:53.72 but there is eternal life 00:05:53.75\00:05:55.18 without end and joy unspeakable. 00:05:55.22\00:05:58.19 Right, to share that with all these kids. 00:05:58.22\00:06:00.59 Yeah. That's right. That's right. 00:06:00.62\00:06:02.69 So our next video is the one 00:06:02.72\00:06:04.86 we've been telling everyone about. 00:06:04.89\00:06:06.09 Yes. 00:06:06.13\00:06:07.30 Where we follow Kalijavi home and see what her home is like. 00:06:07.36\00:06:10.93 Yeah. And it wasn't actually me going, it was Jonathan. 00:06:10.97\00:06:15.04 He's our foreign correspondent. Yes. 00:06:15.07\00:06:17.51 He's currently living at the moment in Thailand. 00:06:17.54\00:06:20.28 Yes. But he went to India with you. 00:06:20.31\00:06:21.98 So you'll hear his voice in the video 00:06:22.01\00:06:23.85 talking about his experience. 00:06:23.88\00:06:25.38 Okay. 00:06:25.41\00:06:26.48 Amen. Amen. 00:06:30.12\00:06:31.32 Bethel Evening Schools 00:06:31.35\00:06:32.55 have been helping children in India 00:06:32.59\00:06:34.62 by providing tutoring, a good meal, 00:06:34.66\00:06:37.29 and most importantly teaching them about Jesus. 00:06:37.33\00:06:41.83 Tonight, join me as I go home with Kalijavi 00:06:41.86\00:06:45.60 to see what her life is like at home. 00:06:45.63\00:06:48.20 It's customary in India to remove your shoes 00:07:06.12\00:07:08.56 before entering your home or church. 00:07:08.59\00:07:11.23 But when I got to Kalijavi's home, 00:07:11.26\00:07:13.43 I almost walked right in with my shoes on 00:07:13.46\00:07:16.73 because the floor of the hut was dirt just like outside. 00:07:16.77\00:07:20.77 As I watched Kalijavi study her homework 00:07:23.84\00:07:26.31 and get ready for bed, 00:07:26.34\00:07:27.88 I wondered what impact 00:07:27.91\00:07:29.61 the evening school has had on her. 00:07:29.64\00:07:32.15 It didn't take long to see one result 00:07:32.18\00:07:34.68 as she knelt down and prayed before going to sleep. 00:07:34.72\00:07:38.75 In a country where about one billion people are Hindu 00:07:58.71\00:08:02.34 and most homes have a Hindu shrine. 00:08:02.38\00:08:05.01 It was wonderful to see this girl and her parents 00:08:05.05\00:08:08.45 serving God in the midst of spiritual darkness. 00:08:08.48\00:08:11.99 It's a simple life this family lives. 00:08:32.04\00:08:34.91 They don't have many of the conveniences 00:08:34.94\00:08:36.78 that we often take for granted. 00:08:36.81\00:08:38.98 I mean, does your kitchen look like this? 00:08:39.01\00:08:41.68 Kalijavi's father is a daily laborer 00:09:02.17\00:09:05.14 which means he's hired on a day to day basis. 00:09:05.17\00:09:08.04 He drives 20 kilometers to work as a coconut husker, 00:09:08.08\00:09:12.18 and this is the tool he uses to remove the husks. 00:09:12.21\00:09:15.45 It was an incredible privilege 00:09:52.29\00:09:53.96 to step into the home of this family 00:09:53.99\00:09:56.22 and see what life is like in an Indian village, 00:09:56.26\00:09:59.53 and I'm so thankful that Kalijavi and the other children 00:09:59.56\00:10:03.26 in this village have the opportunity 00:10:03.30\00:10:06.13 to go to the evening school. 00:10:06.17\00:10:08.04 As Kalijavi leaves for school 00:10:31.16\00:10:33.19 and my time with her family draws to a close, 00:10:33.23\00:10:36.36 I can't help but think 00:10:36.40\00:10:37.73 how many other children in India 00:10:37.77\00:10:39.83 don't have the opportunity to know Jesus. 00:10:39.87\00:10:43.34 I hope and pray that more evening schools can be started 00:10:43.37\00:10:47.48 so that more children can hear about Jesus just like Kalijavi. 00:10:47.51\00:10:52.58 She is beautiful. Yeah. 00:11:07.46\00:11:10.33 Very different life though isn't for her. 00:11:10.37\00:11:11.93 It's very, very different. 00:11:11.97\00:11:14.27 And to provide just that little extra. 00:11:14.30\00:11:17.14 You know in the footage as we were, 00:11:17.17\00:11:18.44 as I was going through the footage 00:11:18.47\00:11:19.74 that Jonathan captured there, 00:11:19.77\00:11:20.88 you know, the morning breakfast. 00:11:20.91\00:11:22.81 She built the fire and then she put the rice 00:11:22.84\00:11:25.58 and she sat there for a long time, 00:11:25.61\00:11:27.35 it took a long time to do the vegetables and 00:11:27.38\00:11:29.15 so that was probably a 45 minute or one hour time 00:11:29.18\00:11:33.25 just to cook breakfast. 00:11:33.29\00:11:35.52 You know we come out of the morning 00:11:35.56\00:11:37.56 and pour bowl of cereal a little bit of milk, 00:11:37.59\00:11:39.59 in 15 minutes the whole thing's done. 00:11:39.63\00:11:42.00 Yeah. 00:11:42.03\00:11:43.03 So the kind of life pace is very different for them 00:11:43.06\00:11:47.47 and to be able to see that 00:11:47.50\00:11:48.74 and see you know with such, with such... 00:11:48.77\00:11:53.01 When you have this much 00:11:53.04\00:11:54.78 and somebody gives you this much, 00:11:54.81\00:11:56.04 it's not that much difference. 00:11:56.08\00:11:57.88 But when you have this much 00:11:57.91\00:11:59.11 and somebody gives you that much, 00:11:59.15\00:12:00.52 it's like a lot of difference for someone. 00:12:00.55\00:12:04.69 Yeah. 00:12:04.72\00:12:07.22 That's a privilege to be able to help them. 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.12 Yes, and a privilege to be able to be a part of their lives. 00:12:09.16\00:12:13.83 Yeah, that's neat. Yeah. 00:12:13.86\00:12:15.80 Well, we want to go to a joyful video 00:12:15.83\00:12:18.43 after this too 00:12:18.47\00:12:20.04 and that is reopening the Monotones school. 00:12:20.07\00:12:23.27 Now what's... 00:12:23.30\00:12:24.34 You know, you mentioned joyful, 00:12:24.37\00:12:26.11 to me this is even though it brings tears to my eyes, 00:12:26.14\00:12:30.68 I'm very happy for her she knows Christ. 00:12:30.71\00:12:34.95 You know, she... 00:12:34.98\00:12:36.72 Some people in this world don't have a very good life, 00:12:36.75\00:12:40.52 but we all have the opportunity 00:12:40.56\00:12:42.99 for a really good life in the next life. 00:12:43.02\00:12:45.59 And so if I can spend my life 00:12:45.63\00:12:48.13 giving that chance to other people 00:12:48.16\00:12:50.80 what better way to live. 00:12:50.83\00:12:52.30 Yeah. 00:12:52.33\00:12:53.90 And you, you get touched by Christ in a special way 00:12:53.94\00:12:57.64 when you're helping them. 00:12:57.67\00:12:58.71 Right. 00:12:58.74\00:12:59.77 Because it's just such a blessing, 00:12:59.81\00:13:02.04 to be a blessing to others it's such a blessing. 00:13:02.08\00:13:04.31 I see Christ reaching out to these people 00:13:04.35\00:13:06.15 every single day. 00:13:06.18\00:13:07.78 And if I can be a part of that then we become co-laborers 00:13:07.82\00:13:12.95 which is huge you know, 00:13:12.99\00:13:15.16 it's a blessing to work with Christ 00:13:15.19\00:13:16.76 that I believe this is what he calls his yoke, 00:13:16.79\00:13:19.39 his yoke you know where you team up, 00:13:19.43\00:13:21.46 the yoke is for two, 00:13:21.50\00:13:23.10 team up with him and work together. 00:13:23.13\00:13:25.43 And when I read the Bible, this is the way that 00:13:25.47\00:13:28.37 Christ has laid out to draw closer to him. 00:13:28.40\00:13:33.58 You know it's more than just a prayer and, 00:13:33.61\00:13:37.48 and Bible study, it's more than just those things 00:13:37.51\00:13:40.32 that we do in our minds by ourselves 00:13:40.35\00:13:42.18 but it's, it's entering into labor, 00:13:42.22\00:13:45.25 actual working with him to, 00:13:45.29\00:13:47.06 to help him accomplish his goals 00:13:47.09\00:13:49.82 and he has spirit, he needs physical flesh and blood 00:13:49.86\00:13:55.80 to do the work that he longs to do. 00:13:55.83\00:14:00.14 Yeah. 00:14:00.17\00:14:01.57 And, yeah, so that's why we love these schools. 00:14:01.60\00:14:04.97 We love all of our projects. Absolutely. 00:14:05.01\00:14:06.98 And we talk about all of them and... 00:14:07.01\00:14:08.74 Yeah, the missionaries that go out 00:14:08.78\00:14:10.75 and represent Christ in their own flesh and blood 00:14:10.78\00:14:12.98 and then the evening schools and the Bible workers and, 00:14:13.01\00:14:16.58 and all the opportunities where we see 00:14:16.62\00:14:19.02 Christ being made available and manifested to people. 00:14:19.05\00:14:23.93 Right, and especially to people that had no idea before. 00:14:23.96\00:14:27.40 And they think that all the gods are like them. 00:14:27.46\00:14:30.37 There's no help there, they go and pray and nothing happens. 00:14:30.40\00:14:35.10 They think the gods are angry. 00:14:35.14\00:14:37.51 They have to spend their life trying to appease the God's, 00:14:37.54\00:14:41.11 you know these things. 00:14:41.14\00:14:42.51 For the honest seeker his life is vanity, 00:14:42.54\00:14:46.05 life is a game and you live, you die, 00:14:46.08\00:14:50.19 repeat, repeat, repeat forever and ever and ever. 00:14:50.22\00:14:54.02 That's, that's and so this, this God for people that can, 00:14:54.06\00:14:57.89 they can see it, they can surrender and accept it, 00:14:57.93\00:15:01.30 you know, it means a lot. 00:15:01.33\00:15:03.23 Yeah. 00:15:03.26\00:15:04.80 The God that loves them and died for them. 00:15:04.83\00:15:06.57 Yes. Yeah. 00:15:06.60\00:15:08.80 Well, it is, it is so much a part of the joy 00:15:08.84\00:15:11.17 and we're told in scripture that 00:15:11.21\00:15:14.11 this fellowship with Christ and his sufferings 00:15:14.14\00:15:17.61 is the gateway to joy and, 00:15:17.65\00:15:20.25 and yet his fellowship his sufferings 00:15:20.28\00:15:23.49 or when he came here and he worked 00:15:23.52\00:15:26.52 and he sacrificed everything 00:15:26.55\00:15:29.29 for the sake of the lost which was all of us. 00:15:29.32\00:15:31.33 Yes. 00:15:31.36\00:15:32.49 And so to join with him in that is a great source of joy. 00:15:32.53\00:15:35.26 Yeah. 00:15:35.30\00:15:36.33 No matter how hard it is 00:15:36.36\00:15:37.67 or how inconvenient it is, whatever. 00:15:37.70\00:15:40.57 Yes. 00:15:40.60\00:15:41.60 It's worth being a part of Christ's joy. 00:15:41.64\00:15:43.87 Right. 00:15:43.91\00:15:44.87 And taking them the blessing of knowing Jesus. 00:15:44.91\00:15:47.91 Yeah. 00:15:47.94\00:15:48.98 And even, yeah, and even he was, 00:15:49.01\00:15:50.61 even Jesus was pursuing joy when he went to the cross. 00:15:50.65\00:15:54.55 You know for the sake of the joy 00:15:54.58\00:15:55.68 that was set before him, 00:15:55.72\00:15:57.32 he endured the cross despising the shame going after those 00:15:57.35\00:16:00.86 people that he would find great joy in. 00:16:00.89\00:16:04.53 I guess that's, that's what it is. 00:16:04.56\00:16:05.89 The purpose of the cross is to bring more people into 00:16:05.93\00:16:09.20 awareness of fellowship and back to the family of God 00:16:09.23\00:16:12.73 and that's where he finds his joy. 00:16:12.77\00:16:14.30 Yeah. So... 00:16:14.34\00:16:16.27 So we have a joyful event we want to share next. 00:16:16.30\00:16:18.84 And that is the opening 00:16:18.87\00:16:19.91 or actually reopening one of the evening schools. 00:16:19.94\00:16:23.38 We had a school in this church before 00:16:23.41\00:16:25.05 and it's going to be talked about in the video 00:16:25.08\00:16:27.25 but the roof was falling apart... 00:16:27.28\00:16:31.55 Yeah. 00:16:31.59\00:16:32.55 And they were afraid it would collapse on them, 00:16:32.59\00:16:34.69 and so they couldn't meet 00:16:34.72\00:16:36.46 there in the evenings to have the children they, 00:16:36.49\00:16:39.03 they weren't meeting there in the evenings 00:16:39.06\00:16:40.86 for the evening school, 00:16:40.90\00:16:42.13 they weren't meeting there for church. 00:16:42.16\00:16:43.77 Basically the building was unusable. 00:16:43.80\00:16:46.63 And now with your blessing Father, 00:16:46.67\00:16:48.80 we pronounce this place open. 00:16:48.84\00:16:51.17 In Jesus' name... 00:16:55.18\00:16:57.81 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:16:57.85\00:17:01.25 Okay, they can go on inside. 00:17:01.28\00:17:03.49 Okay, so what you're witnessing and what just happened here was 00:17:11.66\00:17:14.30 the grand opening of the Marattukalam 00:17:14.30\00:17:16.40 or the reopening 00:17:16.43\00:17:17.43 of the Marattukalam evening school. 00:17:17.47\00:17:21.00 So I have Brother Israel here with me to explain 00:17:21.04\00:17:23.41 some of the history and some of the background of 00:17:23.44\00:17:25.37 why this place has to be reopened. 00:17:25.41\00:17:27.51 And first of all it has to do with the church structure. 00:17:27.54\00:17:30.18 Yes. 00:17:30.21\00:17:31.25 It was shut down because of the building, 00:17:31.28\00:17:34.48 because of the church structure... 00:17:34.52\00:17:35.85 The roof was... 00:17:35.88\00:17:36.99 Fully collapsed and when it rained 00:17:37.02\00:17:39.65 the water would just come inside 00:17:39.69\00:17:41.76 and not only that, 00:17:41.79\00:17:43.19 the roof was cracked and even the church members 00:17:43.22\00:17:46.56 were so frightened to worship inside so it was, 00:17:46.59\00:17:50.40 there was a time there when I came, 00:17:50.43\00:17:52.13 we had the Saturday worship here outside. 00:17:52.17\00:17:54.87 That's just right here in this little tiny spot. 00:17:54.90\00:17:56.94 Yeah, the members were gathered here 00:17:56.97\00:17:59.14 and then from there I spoke and it was, 00:17:59.17\00:18:01.74 you know, they were crying, they were crying, they said, 00:18:01.78\00:18:05.71 "We want a church." 00:18:05.75\00:18:07.78 We are scared to go inside. 00:18:07.82\00:18:10.15 We cannot have a peaceful worship. 00:18:10.19\00:18:13.25 Please do something. 00:18:13.29\00:18:14.79 You know Brother Israel, 00:18:14.82\00:18:16.42 my home church in America had a very similar problem, 00:18:16.46\00:18:19.93 is like an 80 year old church and the ceiling, 00:18:19.96\00:18:22.73 the roof was going like this. 00:18:22.76\00:18:24.73 And so it cost $160,000 to replace that roof. 00:18:24.77\00:18:30.47 How much did it cost to replace this roof? 00:18:30.51\00:18:32.74 $2,300 to completely take off this because 00:18:32.77\00:18:36.54 previously the roof was very low and 00:18:36.58\00:18:39.45 there was no ventilation, it was so low and 00:18:39.48\00:18:42.08 so they have completely taken out the ceiling 00:18:42.12\00:18:45.92 and now they have raised 00:18:45.95\00:18:47.39 nearly about four to five feet high 00:18:47.42\00:18:49.86 and they have put metal sheet now. 00:18:49.89\00:18:52.33 And there's good ventilation, air circulation, 00:18:52.36\00:18:55.86 so now the members are so happy! 00:18:55.90\00:18:59.00 And after they reopened the church they were asking 00:18:59.03\00:19:02.94 for the reopening of the school. 00:19:02.97\00:19:05.17 What happened to the school in the meantime? 00:19:05.21\00:19:07.24 Because we moved this school 00:19:07.28\00:19:09.14 to another village called Bahrady Nagar 00:19:09.18\00:19:11.71 because there they had been asking for a school like 00:19:11.75\00:19:14.25 this for many years and I said, "please pray, pray" 00:19:14.28\00:19:18.19 and God answered their prayer through this and they were... 00:19:18.22\00:19:21.09 With this disaster. Yeah. 00:19:21.12\00:19:22.46 And they got the school and they were enjoying. 00:19:22.49\00:19:24.69 So what would happen if we took the school 00:19:24.73\00:19:26.56 back from there and put it here? 00:19:26.59\00:19:28.26 Oh, they won't allow definitely. 00:19:28.30\00:19:32.00 I think the children, they won't, will not... 00:19:32.03\00:19:35.94 So then this school has been closed for a year. 00:19:35.97\00:19:38.37 Yes. 00:19:38.41\00:19:39.44 And tonight is the first reopening. 00:19:39.47\00:19:41.11 Yes, tonight is a first reopening. 00:19:41.14\00:19:42.88 Yeah, another school opened. That's wonderful. 00:20:20.15\00:20:22.98 Well, you guys also had a privilege 00:20:23.02\00:20:24.85 of getting a testimony of one of the young people 00:20:24.89\00:20:28.06 that used to go to our school. 00:20:28.09\00:20:29.49 He's grown up now, he doesn't go to the school anymore, 00:20:29.52\00:20:32.59 but thanks to the school. 00:20:32.63\00:20:34.40 Well, let's shed... 00:20:34.46\00:20:36.26 This is a beautiful thing because we often ask ourselves, 00:20:36.30\00:20:39.60 does a school really make a difference? 00:20:39.63\00:20:41.97 And I think this video answers that question. 00:20:42.00\00:20:44.27 Okay. 00:20:44.31\00:20:47.84 Do you think that this school helped your life, 00:20:47.88\00:20:49.91 helped you in your life? 00:20:49.94\00:20:51.05 Yes, it was. 00:20:54.28\00:20:56.08 What was the best part of it? The food or the teaching? 00:20:56.12\00:20:58.62 He loved to sing songs. She was his teacher. 00:21:02.89\00:21:06.83 He was this size when she came to teach him. 00:21:06.86\00:21:09.53 Wow. Okay. 00:21:09.56\00:21:13.80 He will recite Psalms 15 very well. 00:21:13.84\00:21:16.44 And kids at his age used to do what? 00:21:16.47\00:21:18.41 In this age the children are smoking, drinking 00:21:31.42\00:21:34.92 but sitting here and there teasing the girls 00:21:34.96\00:21:38.33 but he is very, very respectful even today, till today 00:21:38.36\00:21:42.80 he used to say, "Akah, how are you? 00:21:42.83\00:21:45.07 How is everything" very respectfully. 00:21:45.10\00:21:47.54 He has no bad habits now. 00:21:47.57\00:21:49.47 So do you think he learned a lot of that 00:21:49.50\00:21:51.81 in, in the school? 00:21:51.84\00:21:53.48 Yes. 00:21:58.08\00:21:59.11 All what he learned was from this school, 00:21:59.15\00:22:01.42 the Biblical thing really has helped him 00:22:01.45\00:22:03.85 to be a witness in this village. 00:22:03.89\00:22:06.59 So he'll be a success in life now. 00:22:06.62\00:22:09.26 Even now after his work, he used to come 00:22:09.29\00:22:12.86 and stand and listen 00:22:12.89\00:22:14.10 to the Biblical things even now. 00:22:14.10\00:22:16.10 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:22:16.13\00:22:18.00 What is your name? 00:22:18.03\00:22:20.27 Kali Muthu. Kali Muthu. 00:22:20.30\00:22:22.24 Well, praise the Lord. 00:22:22.27\00:22:23.27 Thank you so much for your testimony. 00:22:23.30\00:22:24.91 Romba Nandri. 00:22:24.94\00:22:27.91 What does that mean? 00:22:27.94\00:22:28.98 Romba Nandri? Yeah. 00:22:29.01\00:22:30.11 It means thank you very much. 00:22:30.15\00:22:31.35 Yes, and what does this mean? 00:22:31.38\00:22:32.48 That means yes most of the time. 00:22:32.51\00:22:37.02 That's right, so he was going like this 00:22:37.05\00:22:38.69 and she was going like that 00:22:38.72\00:22:39.72 and they were saying the same thing. 00:22:39.75\00:22:40.96 Right because she was talking American 00:22:40.99\00:22:43.76 and he was talking Indian. 00:22:43.79\00:22:47.13 So what does he do for a job? 00:22:47.13\00:22:48.73 He drives a backhoe with the shovel in the front. 00:22:48.76\00:22:51.73 They call it a JCB because most of them are made by JCB. 00:22:51.77\00:22:54.37 Okay. 00:22:54.40\00:22:55.44 So it's like, he's a backhoe driver, so... 00:22:55.47\00:22:57.44 So he's got a good job then. 00:22:57.47\00:22:58.97 Yeah, big, big time job. 00:22:59.01\00:23:00.81 Praise the Lord, and that's neat that he comes 00:23:00.84\00:23:02.51 after work to hear the stories of Christ. 00:23:02.54\00:23:05.08 Yeah, well he just dropped by 00:23:05.11\00:23:07.18 while we were done with the evening program. 00:23:07.22\00:23:09.48 He just dropped by and met his teacher. 00:23:09.52\00:23:12.55 By the way that teacher Jennifer, 00:23:12.59\00:23:15.19 she was baptized in 2007 00:23:15.22\00:23:17.53 when we did an evangelistic series. 00:23:17.56\00:23:19.49 She along with her husband who is now 00:23:19.53\00:23:21.30 the overseer of all the evening schools in that area, 00:23:21.33\00:23:24.67 they were both baptized 00:23:24.70\00:23:26.03 during that evangelistic series back in 2007. 00:23:26.07\00:23:29.17 So it's neat how the seeds are planted, 00:23:29.20\00:23:31.41 grow up some 30 fold, some 100 fold and you see this. 00:23:31.44\00:23:35.84 And the seeds sprout 00:23:35.88\00:23:38.28 and then those seeds start spreading seeds 00:23:38.31\00:23:40.35 and the work goes forward. 00:23:40.38\00:23:42.18 Yeah, it's exciting. Yeah, that's really neat. 00:23:42.22\00:23:45.05 And what's cool about these evening schools 00:23:45.09\00:23:46.89 is like one of the cheapest ways 00:23:46.92\00:23:48.46 to get involved with God's work, 00:23:48.49\00:23:50.23 $7 a month takes care 00:23:50.26\00:23:53.19 and provides education and food 00:23:53.23\00:23:55.83 for one child for the entire month. 00:23:55.86\00:23:58.67 Wow. Yeah, that's amazing. 00:23:58.70\00:24:00.40 Yeah. God is good. 00:24:00.44\00:24:01.47 That's about a quarter a day. Yeah. 00:24:01.50\00:24:03.27 Twenty five cents for education and meal event. 00:24:03.30\00:24:07.91 We have had people approach us and ask for a self-denial boxes 00:24:07.94\00:24:11.41 or make their own self-denial boxes. 00:24:11.45\00:24:13.65 A self do what? A self-denial box. 00:24:13.68\00:24:16.65 What's a self-denial box? 00:24:16.69\00:24:18.29 It's a box where you put the funds 00:24:18.32\00:24:21.49 when you deny yourself something that you wanted. 00:24:21.52\00:24:24.36 Like if you're going to spend a dollar on an ice cream cone. 00:24:24.39\00:24:27.73 A dollar? You would put... 00:24:27.76\00:24:29.23 Well, okay more than that, you would put that dollar. 00:24:29.26\00:24:32.37 This is a figurative, you know, 00:24:32.40\00:24:34.37 this is an example, there we go. 00:24:34.40\00:24:36.40 You would put that dollar in the self-denial box. 00:24:36.44\00:24:39.34 And then you would put that to the evening schools 00:24:39.37\00:24:42.21 or you know to the evening schools project. 00:24:42.24\00:24:44.58 Where do you get this idea? 00:24:44.61\00:24:45.68 It's from Mrs. White. 00:24:45.71\00:24:47.12 She actually says that every member of each household 00:24:47.15\00:24:49.75 should have their own self-denial box. 00:24:49.78\00:24:51.65 So instead of buying something for themselves, 00:24:51.69\00:24:53.89 they can put it in there. 00:24:53.92\00:24:54.92 Right. And what does that look like? 00:24:54.96\00:24:58.09 Well, we have one right here. 00:24:58.13\00:25:00.43 Ours looks like a little church, 00:25:00.46\00:25:02.93 and on it, it has instruction where to send the funds 00:25:02.96\00:25:06.70 when it gets full and it has a Bible text on it, 00:25:06.74\00:25:09.24 which text is on there? 00:25:09.27\00:25:11.57 This says, "In as much as you have done it 00:25:11.61\00:25:13.44 unto the least of these my brethren, 00:25:13.48\00:25:15.14 you have done it unto me." 00:25:15.18\00:25:16.38 Matthew 25:40. 00:25:16.41\00:25:18.68 So it's reminding us that God wants us to help 00:25:18.71\00:25:22.18 the least of these our brothers, his brothers. 00:25:22.22\00:25:25.22 Has anybody done this? Has anybody filled this up? 00:25:25.25\00:25:27.06 A lot of people have done it, and a lot of money has gone 00:25:27.09\00:25:30.96 to help these evening schools and our orphanage, 00:25:30.99\00:25:33.56 various children's ministries 00:25:33.60\00:25:35.46 because of these self-denial boxes. 00:25:35.50\00:25:37.43 I have people that come to our camp meetings 00:25:37.47\00:25:39.23 in the summer 00:25:39.27\00:25:40.30 and they bring the whole box crammed full 00:25:40.34\00:25:43.10 and they handed to me, 00:25:43.14\00:25:44.71 and I have Ziploc bags and I put it in the Ziploc bag 00:25:44.74\00:25:47.68 and I hand them back their church. 00:25:47.71\00:25:49.14 I remember carrying those things always. 00:25:49.18\00:25:50.88 What's in here? 00:25:50.91\00:25:52.08 Yeah, my suitcase is always very heavy after camp meeting 00:25:52.11\00:25:54.58 because of all the change but it's such a privilege 00:25:54.62\00:25:57.72 and people are amazed when they see 00:25:57.75\00:25:59.25 how much they actually saved 00:25:59.29\00:26:00.82 during the year for these children's projects. 00:26:00.86\00:26:03.59 Just dropping one quarter in here 00:26:03.63\00:26:05.06 will provide a meal and two hours of education 00:26:05.09\00:26:08.23 and maybe another memory verse for a child. 00:26:08.26\00:26:11.90 Yep. That's pretty cool. 00:26:11.93\00:26:14.37 So can people get these things can they... 00:26:14.40\00:26:16.27 Yes we have, we have, we have them, 00:26:16.30\00:26:18.64 we can share with people. 00:26:18.67\00:26:20.41 We have them, we can send out to people. 00:26:20.44\00:26:22.14 Okay, because these are nice 00:26:22.18\00:26:23.55 but you don't have to use one of these. 00:26:23.58\00:26:24.95 No. 00:26:24.98\00:26:26.05 We've had people that took a canning jar, a quart jar 00:26:26.08\00:26:29.08 and decorated the outside, 00:26:29.12\00:26:31.12 wrote a special thing, painted on it, 00:26:31.15\00:26:33.12 you know, in various ways of decorating it. 00:26:33.15\00:26:35.19 We had people that took little wooden boxes 00:26:35.22\00:26:37.96 and painted on them and put a sticker on them 00:26:37.99\00:26:41.16 saying what they were for 00:26:41.20\00:26:42.73 and that same Bible verse just to remind, to remind themselves 00:26:42.76\00:26:48.00 what it was for and to make it personal. 00:26:48.04\00:26:50.24 This is an excellent thing to do for your children 00:26:50.27\00:26:52.81 to teach them to start thinking about others 00:26:52.84\00:26:55.21 rather than themselves. 00:26:55.24\00:26:56.81 Yes, we've had Sabbath schools take them 00:26:56.85\00:26:59.05 and fill them in their Sabbath schools 00:26:59.08\00:27:02.22 and anyway it's a neat way to remember the children. 00:27:02.25\00:27:07.16 Yeah. 00:27:07.19\00:27:08.26 So this is an amazing way to help and amazing project 00:27:08.29\00:27:12.03 because we don't take anything out for overhead. 00:27:12.06\00:27:16.40 So if somebody sends a dollar for the evening schools. 00:27:16.43\00:27:19.93 How much do we send to India? 00:27:19.97\00:27:21.57 We send on the dollar. The whole dollar. 00:27:21.60\00:27:23.64 Well, whatever's taken out for like PayPal. 00:27:23.67\00:27:26.21 Yeah, any bank fees.
