Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:21.72\00:00:24.12 I'm Natalie Wood and I have my husband Jon with me today. 00:00:24.15\00:00:26.96 Hi, darling. Hello, love. 00:00:26.99\00:00:28.39 How're you doing? I'm doing great. 00:00:28.42\00:00:29.96 You know, we've got 00:00:29.99\00:00:30.99 a really wonderful project to share today. 00:00:31.03\00:00:33.83 Oh, yeah. This is one of our favorites. 00:00:33.86\00:00:35.46 Yep. 00:00:35.50\00:00:36.43 You know, we talk a lot here at Jesus for Asia 00:00:36.46\00:00:38.30 about what God is doing in Asia and what needs to be done. 00:00:38.33\00:00:42.14 Yeah. 00:00:42.17\00:00:43.17 And this is one of those things 00:00:43.20\00:00:44.44 where God showed us that there was a need. 00:00:44.47\00:00:46.07 Yeah. 00:00:46.11\00:00:47.14 And then He enabled us to be a part of it. 00:00:47.18\00:00:49.11 That's right. 00:00:49.14\00:00:50.15 Part of the solution I should say. 00:00:50.18\00:00:51.25 That's right, when we first started Jesus for Asia, 00:00:51.28\00:00:53.05 we were nothing but Bible workers. 00:00:53.08\00:00:54.45 We did local Bible worker sponsorship. 00:00:54.48\00:00:56.52 That year after we started, Israel, 00:00:56.55\00:00:58.82 our JFA director in India 00:00:58.85\00:01:01.12 had a heart for the children in the villages 00:01:01.16\00:01:03.99 that he was seeing that were of a lot high illiteracy rate, 00:01:04.03\00:01:07.20 high malnourishment rate, and he was like, 00:01:07.23\00:01:09.53 "We got to do something for these kids." 00:01:09.56\00:01:10.73 And I'm like, "No, we can't, we can't diversify, 00:01:10.77\00:01:13.10 we just got to focus." 00:01:13.13\00:01:14.67 And then I went out and prayed 00:01:14.70\00:01:16.60 and the Lord made it very clear through His Holy Spirit, 00:01:16.64\00:01:19.87 warmed my heart 00:01:19.91\00:01:20.94 and then did miracles right after that, 00:01:20.98\00:01:23.85 and we started our first evening school. 00:01:23.88\00:01:25.98 Okay, so we're talking about the evening schools. 00:01:26.01\00:01:28.38 Yeah. 00:01:28.42\00:01:29.42 All right, we've got some statistics about India. 00:01:29.45\00:01:31.85 Yeah, this is a big reason why in statistics, 00:01:31.89\00:01:35.09 in numbers that, you know, 00:01:35.12\00:01:36.99 when you go over there you see it, 00:01:37.03\00:01:38.26 it's not just statistics. 00:01:38.29\00:01:39.96 But this is the big reason 00:01:40.00\00:01:41.66 why we're doing this type of ministry in India. 00:01:41.70\00:01:45.40 Okay, so what is the statistic of malnourished? 00:01:45.43\00:01:48.44 India unfortunately is home to 00:01:48.47\00:01:51.47 almost 200 million undernourished people. 00:01:51.51\00:01:54.68 Okay, so that's not just children. 00:01:54.71\00:01:56.98 That's the whole population. Right. 00:01:57.01\00:01:59.18 That's a lot of people. That's a lot of people. 00:01:59.21\00:02:01.25 That's a huge amount of people. 00:02:01.28\00:02:03.02 200 million, 00:02:03.05\00:02:04.09 that's two-thirds of the United States' population. 00:02:04.12\00:02:07.39 So another statistic is that 00:02:07.42\00:02:08.89 over 7,000 people die every day in India. 00:02:08.92\00:02:11.43 Yeah. 00:02:11.46\00:02:12.46 From malnutrition and starvation. 00:02:12.49\00:02:14.60 That's correct. 00:02:14.63\00:02:15.66 And in all the, the whole world 00:02:15.70\00:02:16.93 one third of the entire world's hungry live in India. 00:02:16.97\00:02:20.27 Wow. 00:02:20.30\00:02:21.34 So India is home to one-third of the world's 00:02:21.37\00:02:24.34 undernourished people. 00:02:24.37\00:02:25.51 Wow. 00:02:25.54\00:02:27.08 That's a lot of people. 00:02:27.11\00:02:28.11 That's a lot of people, that's endemic, it's a... 00:02:28.14\00:02:32.01 Doesn't need to happen. 00:02:32.05\00:02:33.08 It's overwhelming in some, you know, 00:02:33.11\00:02:34.92 just hearing the numbers it's overwhelming. 00:02:34.95\00:02:36.79 Yeah. 00:02:36.82\00:02:37.85 About one person at a time we can make a difference. 00:02:37.89\00:02:40.66 And that's the challenge that we face 00:02:40.69\00:02:42.26 that I faced on a personal level, 00:02:42.29\00:02:44.23 it's like why even begin, why even start. 00:02:44.26\00:02:46.93 There's no way that I as just one person could, 00:02:46.96\00:02:49.96 could change those kind of numbers, 00:02:50.00\00:02:52.63 200 million people, there's no way. 00:02:52.67\00:02:54.64 And so I'm like why even try? 00:02:54.67\00:02:56.94 Why start? 00:02:56.97\00:02:59.07 What kind of impact 00:02:59.11\00:03:00.34 you gonna have on those kind of numbers? 00:03:00.38\00:03:02.11 It's impossible but then the Lord reminded me, 00:03:02.14\00:03:05.31 you know, what about the one. 00:03:05.35\00:03:06.72 Yeah. 00:03:06.75\00:03:07.75 You know, if you change the life of one. 00:03:07.78\00:03:10.59 You know, Christ was willing to come to this earth 00:03:10.62\00:03:12.19 and live 33 years in pain and misery 00:03:12.22\00:03:14.82 and die for one soul, for me. 00:03:14.86\00:03:19.03 Then okay, I can, I can make a difference in one. 00:03:19.06\00:03:23.23 We've got to show some video. 00:03:23.26\00:03:24.50 Okay. 00:03:24.53\00:03:25.57 And I want to start 00:03:25.60\00:03:26.77 because I know we have a lot more to talk about. 00:03:26.80\00:03:29.20 But I want to start sharing this video 00:03:29.24\00:03:30.84 because it's an introduction to these beautiful children 00:03:30.87\00:03:34.21 and I, I would like our viewers to see. 00:03:34.24\00:03:36.08 This is at a couple of different locations, 00:03:36.11\00:03:38.01 just kind of our overview introductory. 00:03:38.05\00:03:40.92 This is an evening school type of video. 00:03:40.95\00:03:42.95 So you can see that there's different locations, 00:04:44.48\00:04:46.38 different styles, some are actually in the town. 00:04:46.41\00:04:48.35 That first one that you saw 00:04:48.38\00:04:49.52 was on the edge of town right on... 00:04:49.55\00:04:51.22 kind in and of the edge of a big open field 00:04:51.25\00:04:53.52 so it's a beautiful location. 00:04:53.56\00:04:54.96 That school was moved there when one of the churches 00:04:54.99\00:04:57.93 where we were having the school, 00:04:57.96\00:04:59.03 the roof got so bad that it was leaking 00:04:59.06\00:05:00.96 and they were afraid it's going to fall in. 00:05:00.96\00:05:02.43 So even the people weren't having church there, 00:05:02.46\00:05:04.63 they would have church in the courtyard, 00:05:04.67\00:05:06.80 and so we instead of just shutting it down, 00:05:06.84\00:05:09.10 we moved it not the people 00:05:09.14\00:05:10.84 because it's like 45 minute drive. 00:05:10.87\00:05:13.11 So we just moved the finances, 00:05:13.14\00:05:15.44 the support to another place, 00:05:15.48\00:05:17.18 another church their in Barathy Nagar. 00:05:17.21\00:05:19.18 But then when we reopened and in the next show 00:05:19.21\00:05:21.38 we'll talk about the reopening of that one, 00:05:21.42\00:05:23.05 reopened the original 00:05:23.08\00:05:24.65 the people up here at Barathy Nagar, 00:05:24.69\00:05:26.05 they're like "Please don't take away our school." 00:05:26.09\00:05:28.36 Yeah. 00:05:28.39\00:05:29.42 So some amazing people came forward 00:05:29.46\00:05:32.09 and with much patience and perseverance 00:05:32.13\00:05:34.46 provided the funds to reopen the second 00:05:34.46\00:05:36.67 and so instead of, instead of shifting it back 00:05:36.70\00:05:39.63 we now have one in each location 00:05:39.67\00:05:42.10 Right, that's really exciting. 00:05:42.14\00:05:43.97 And you know our viewers probably noticed 00:05:44.01\00:05:45.94 that both of those are churches. 00:05:45.97\00:05:47.91 And we do them in churches a lot 00:05:47.94\00:05:50.68 because of the fact that it's an outreach tool 00:05:50.71\00:05:53.85 and it's a blessing to the community around, 00:05:53.88\00:05:56.72 and it causes the church to be a gathering place. 00:05:56.75\00:05:59.49 Right, the church body gets involved with that also... 00:05:59.52\00:06:01.86 Right. 00:06:01.89\00:06:02.89 And so they're providing a service to the community 00:06:02.92\00:06:05.73 and it really takes down some barriers. 00:06:05.76\00:06:08.36 Yeah. 00:06:08.40\00:06:09.43 We've seen that over and over again. 00:06:09.46\00:06:10.53 Yeah. 00:06:10.57\00:06:11.57 The next thing we want to talk about 00:06:11.60\00:06:13.23 is the actual study that goes on 00:06:13.27\00:06:14.94 because these are schools. 00:06:14.97\00:06:16.00 Yes. 00:06:16.04\00:06:17.04 But they're not traditional schools 00:06:17.07\00:06:19.21 where we give out assignments and the teachers do lecturing. 00:06:19.24\00:06:23.24 This is the kind of school 00:06:23.28\00:06:24.38 where they're tutored in the class work 00:06:24.41\00:06:26.08 that they receive at the government school. 00:06:26.11\00:06:27.52 Right. 00:06:27.55\00:06:28.58 This is like extra help, encouragement 00:06:28.62\00:06:31.79 and somebody to go over their homework with them. 00:06:31.82\00:06:33.86 A lot of these kids what we found out, 00:06:33.89\00:06:35.39 there's a lot of these kids even though 00:06:35.42\00:06:36.49 they go to the school 00:06:36.52\00:06:38.19 that the free school that's provided, 00:06:38.23\00:06:40.46 they're not learning. 00:06:40.50\00:06:41.76 Right, and some of that's 00:06:41.80\00:06:42.76 because there's too many kids in the classroom. 00:06:42.80\00:06:45.30 Some of it's because the teachers 00:06:45.33\00:06:46.70 aren't paid enough to care. 00:06:46.74\00:06:47.90 Some of it's because they're outcast children. 00:06:47.94\00:06:50.54 The teachers are of different caste 00:06:50.57\00:06:51.87 and so there with the caste system 00:06:51.91\00:06:53.98 even though it's been outlawed, 00:06:54.01\00:06:55.74 it still affects a lot of things 00:06:55.78\00:06:57.68 that happen in India. 00:06:57.71\00:06:58.71 Right, so these kids get ignored 00:06:58.75\00:06:59.81 and they're not learning. 00:06:59.85\00:07:01.08 Right. 00:07:01.12\00:07:02.15 And so we provide this extra school in the evening 00:07:02.18\00:07:04.29 where they can really learn 00:07:04.32\00:07:05.92 and they can get the individual attention that they need. 00:07:05.95\00:07:07.66 Right. 00:07:07.69\00:07:08.72 You know, 12 out of the 60 kids 00:07:08.76\00:07:11.39 that came to our first evening school 00:07:11.43\00:07:13.56 when we opened it could read and write 12. 00:07:13.60\00:07:16.00 Yeah, that means like almost 50 of them could not read. 00:07:16.03\00:07:19.80 Right. 00:07:19.83\00:07:20.87 And Tamil is not an easy language. 00:07:20.90\00:07:23.27 He got that right, my goodness. 00:07:23.30\00:07:24.94 It's over 288 characters or at least 288 characters, 00:07:24.97\00:07:28.68 we've been told several different numbers 00:07:28.71\00:07:30.18 but that's the smallest one. 00:07:30.21\00:07:31.38 And they're alphabet. 00:07:31.41\00:07:32.51 Providing the studies 00:07:32.55\00:07:33.58 is a very important thing to do. 00:07:33.62\00:07:35.22 Right, and we want to show 00:07:35.25\00:07:36.55 a little video of them studying. 00:07:36.58\00:07:38.35 Yep. Does this one have narration? 00:07:38.39\00:07:40.96 No narration, it's just a collage 00:07:40.99\00:07:42.42 so you can kind of watch and see how they do this. 00:07:42.46\00:07:45.36 Okay, here we go. 00:07:45.39\00:07:46.76 The studies are really important 00:08:59.63\00:09:00.90 because a lot of these kids 00:09:00.94\00:09:02.04 are not able to change what their fate is. 00:09:02.07\00:09:05.94 In other words, what they are destined to do in their lives, 00:09:05.97\00:09:09.11 because of their caste, because of their, 00:09:09.14\00:09:12.51 you know, who they were born to 00:09:12.55\00:09:13.98 and what privileges that affords them. 00:09:14.02\00:09:17.02 The religion and tradition teaches that 00:09:17.05\00:09:19.49 if they're born to a certain type of family 00:09:19.52\00:09:22.29 then they cannot change what they do for a living. 00:09:22.32\00:09:25.16 In other words, their caste is tied to their career. 00:09:25.19\00:09:28.10 If they're born in a certain caste, 00:09:28.13\00:09:29.60 they have caste that sweep the floor. 00:09:29.63\00:09:32.47 They have cast that take out the waste. 00:09:32.50\00:09:34.04 They have different caste doing the different things. 00:09:34.07\00:09:35.80 Some of them catch snakes. You know, that's that caste. 00:09:35.84\00:09:39.04 That's what they do. 00:09:39.07\00:09:40.68 So the three things that they need 00:09:40.71\00:09:42.48 to better their lives. 00:09:42.51\00:09:43.95 Number one is they need nutrition 00:09:43.98\00:09:46.18 so they can survive and grow, and learn and retain. 00:09:46.21\00:09:50.69 Number two is they need training, learning. 00:09:50.72\00:09:53.52 Number three is they need, 00:09:53.56\00:09:55.46 they need delivery from that idea 00:09:55.49\00:09:58.13 of this is all you can be. 00:09:58.16\00:10:00.63 You know, they need, 00:10:00.66\00:10:01.66 they need value added into their lives. 00:10:01.70\00:10:03.60 And so that's what I believe the school does, 00:10:03.63\00:10:05.83 it hits all three of those. 00:10:05.87\00:10:07.44 Right, and which is it makes such a huge difference. 00:10:07.47\00:10:11.17 And we've heard so many stories from the schools 00:10:11.21\00:10:13.48 about kids whose lives, you know, were changed, 00:10:13.51\00:10:17.25 families whose lives were changed 00:10:17.28\00:10:19.45 because of the schools. 00:10:19.48\00:10:20.55 Yeah. 00:10:20.58\00:10:21.58 So next, we get to see 00:10:21.62\00:10:23.02 what happens during the worship time. 00:10:23.05\00:10:24.79 Yeah. 00:10:24.82\00:10:25.85 They have a singing time 00:10:25.89\00:10:27.42 which is when the song that we just heard 00:10:27.46\00:10:29.09 was during the singing time, 00:10:29.12\00:10:30.76 and they learn memory verses from the Bible, 00:10:30.79\00:10:32.86 and they hear stories 00:10:32.89\00:10:34.23 from the Bible character building stories, 00:10:34.30\00:10:36.70 moral stories because there is, 00:10:36.73\00:10:40.80 in the Hindu religion 00:10:40.84\00:10:42.50 the Gods have all sorts of 00:10:42.54\00:10:45.17 interesting character traits 00:10:45.21\00:10:46.68 and they're very selfish many times, 00:10:46.71\00:10:48.54 and so the attributes of the Gods 00:10:48.58\00:10:51.58 that are there in Hinduism are not positive, 00:10:51.61\00:10:54.48 not things we want these children to 00:10:54.52\00:10:57.22 replicate in their lives. 00:10:57.25\00:10:58.55 That's correct. 00:10:58.59\00:11:00.36 So this encourages them to choose a better way. 00:11:00.39\00:11:03.73 Right. 00:11:03.76\00:11:04.79 For instance one story is you've seen the God 00:11:04.83\00:11:07.03 with the elephant head. 00:11:07.10\00:11:08.70 Well, the story there is that 00:11:08.73\00:11:10.87 the wife of the creator God wanted a son 00:11:10.90\00:11:14.20 so she got all the dirt off of her body 00:11:14.24\00:11:16.71 and formed a little statue 00:11:16.74\00:11:19.34 and then out of that statue came her son. 00:11:19.37\00:11:23.24 Well, one day she want to go take a bath 00:11:23.28\00:11:26.08 so she told her son to stay in this one location, 00:11:26.11\00:11:28.45 I'm going to go bathe and nobody should see me. 00:11:28.48\00:11:30.52 So she went and took a bath 00:11:30.55\00:11:31.72 and while she was bathing her husband, 00:11:31.75\00:11:34.52 the creator God came along and the son said, 00:11:34.56\00:11:37.46 "You can't go there." 00:11:37.49\00:11:38.66 He said, "What do you mean I can't go there?" 00:11:38.69\00:11:39.86 "No, she's bathing, you can't go there." 00:11:39.89\00:11:41.56 The father got very angry, 00:11:41.60\00:11:43.10 took out his sword and cut off the son's head. 00:11:43.13\00:11:46.63 So the mother, the wife, 00:11:46.67\00:11:47.80 the mother and wife comes back and says, 00:11:47.84\00:11:49.74 "Oh, you killed my son, make him alive again." 00:11:49.77\00:11:52.11 And so he said, "We'll go into the forest 00:11:52.14\00:11:54.11 and whatever head you find, 00:11:54.14\00:11:56.51 grab that one and bring it back, 00:11:56.54\00:11:58.55 and she went in the forest found an elephant, 00:11:58.58\00:12:00.88 brought the head back 00:12:00.92\00:12:01.98 and that's how we have that son, 00:12:02.02\00:12:03.55 and so you can see 00:12:03.59\00:12:04.75 the father got angry, cut off his head. 00:12:04.79\00:12:07.22 In vengeance... Vengeance. 00:12:07.26\00:12:08.29 Yeah. 00:12:08.32\00:12:09.36 So it's like human traits human 00:12:09.39\00:12:10.76 and you see this in Greek mythology as well. 00:12:10.79\00:12:13.43 Same type of idea 00:12:13.46\00:12:15.50 that the gods have the same kind of tendencies 00:12:15.53\00:12:17.93 and human reactions that we do and so... 00:12:17.97\00:12:21.87 So we want these kids to see a better way. 00:12:21.90\00:12:24.51 Right, and the religion is taught through stories. 00:12:24.54\00:12:26.94 Right. 00:12:26.98\00:12:27.98 And so bringing these stories in, 00:12:28.01\00:12:30.18 they start to see, yeah, 00:12:30.21\00:12:31.91 different ways we don't have to obey our passions 00:12:31.95\00:12:34.82 that there's a better way. 00:12:34.85\00:12:35.88 Correct. 00:12:35.92\00:12:36.89 And the fact that there is a God that is loving, 00:12:36.92\00:12:39.55 that is not vengeful, that is not angry, 00:12:39.59\00:12:42.69 that wants good things, 00:12:42.72\00:12:44.63 and provides good things for his children. 00:12:44.66\00:12:46.43 Right, right. 00:12:46.46\00:12:48.30 And then they learn all of this, 00:12:48.33\00:12:51.40 they hear all of this, and then once a week 00:12:51.43\00:12:54.84 they get to have what we call a talent night. 00:12:54.87\00:12:56.71 Yeah, Friday night instead of doing regular studies 00:12:56.74\00:12:59.14 because it's after sundown, right? 00:12:59.17\00:13:00.68 Right. 00:13:00.71\00:13:01.81 They get up and... 00:13:01.84\00:13:03.18 And they share their memory verses 00:13:03.21\00:13:04.88 and they sing songs. 00:13:04.91\00:13:06.75 And so that's the next video we have. 00:13:06.78\00:13:08.45 Yeah. 00:13:08.48\00:13:09.45 We have a bunch of little clips of the children 00:13:09.48\00:13:11.72 during talent night. 00:13:11.75\00:13:12.79 Yep. Here we go. 00:13:12.82\00:13:13.89 The kids over there like action songs too. 00:14:30.83\00:14:32.80 Yes, just like they do it here. Right. 00:14:32.83\00:14:35.30 And they're so beautiful and it's so neat to see them, 00:14:35.34\00:14:37.84 the little ones and the bigger ones 00:14:37.87\00:14:39.51 as they grow... 00:14:39.54\00:14:40.58 Yeah. Doing, sharing that way. 00:14:40.61\00:14:42.94 And those, those seeds 00:14:42.98\00:14:44.18 that are planted in the scripture, 00:14:44.21\00:14:45.75 you never know when they're going to sprout. 00:14:45.78\00:14:48.05 Right. 00:14:48.08\00:14:49.12 And you know we've been told that 00:14:49.15\00:14:51.05 it makes a big difference to the families 00:14:51.09\00:14:53.56 because the parents are like what? 00:14:53.59\00:14:56.02 My child gets to get up and say something up in front, 00:14:56.06\00:15:00.16 you know, that's unthinkable 00:15:00.20\00:15:02.23 for that lower caste or the outcast, 00:15:02.26\00:15:04.97 and so it's been a blessing to, 00:15:05.00\00:15:08.14 to give them an opportunity to have a part in something. 00:15:08.17\00:15:11.27 Yes, absolutely, I love it. 00:15:11.31\00:15:14.14 I used to have sports cars. 00:15:14.18\00:15:15.34 Now we have evening schools and they're better. 00:15:15.38\00:15:18.11 That's why this is one of our favorite programs 00:15:18.15\00:15:20.15 because of the children, 00:15:20.18\00:15:21.15 they're so beautiful, and they're so energetic. 00:15:21.18\00:15:23.02 You say it about all the programs, honey. 00:15:23.05\00:15:25.29 Every program is your favorite program. 00:15:25.32\00:15:27.69 I know but the kids' smiles and I don't know, 00:15:27.72\00:15:31.19 they're just, it's just so special. 00:15:31.23\00:15:32.56 Yeah. 00:15:32.59\00:15:33.63 And I have to hold back tears 00:15:33.66\00:15:36.06 just seeing their beautiful faces 00:15:36.10\00:15:37.83 and their energy and their joy, 00:15:37.87\00:15:40.30 and when we're there it's just so, so amazing. 00:15:40.34\00:15:42.94 Yeah. 00:15:42.97\00:15:44.04 So someday I hope some of our viewers can go with us. 00:15:44.07\00:15:47.08 Yeah, that will be good. That will be good. 00:15:47.11\00:15:49.81 For our next clip we're going to share 00:15:49.84\00:15:51.61 about the eating part 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.31 that we talked about a little bit, 00:15:53.35\00:15:54.58 the nutrition, 00:15:54.62\00:15:55.85 and nutrition is very important... 00:15:55.88\00:15:57.32 Yeah. 00:15:57.35\00:15:58.39 Because for many of these kids, 00:15:58.42\00:15:59.69 it's their second meal of the day. 00:15:59.72\00:16:01.66 Yeah, and a lot of them 00:16:01.69\00:16:02.69 don't get vegetables with their meal. 00:16:02.72\00:16:05.99 Lot of times it's rice with... 00:16:06.03\00:16:08.00 In fact in the next episode 00:16:08.03\00:16:09.66 we're going to go to one of our children's homes... 00:16:09.70\00:16:11.87 Are you going to... 00:16:11.90\00:16:13.80 Are you going to do a spoiler right now? 00:16:13.84\00:16:15.64 Yeah, I guess I did. 00:16:15.67\00:16:18.31 Okay, go ahead. 00:16:18.34\00:16:19.44 And all she had was rice and onions, little onions. 00:16:19.47\00:16:22.88 And so our evening schools 00:16:22.91\00:16:24.01 we have vegetables 00:16:24.05\00:16:25.71 and different kinds of vegetables, 00:16:25.75\00:16:27.35 and so they get the nutrition 00:16:27.38\00:16:28.65 that they wouldn't normally get. 00:16:28.68\00:16:29.95 More variety. 00:16:29.98\00:16:31.02 Yeah, and you can tell the difference with the kids 00:16:31.05\00:16:33.15 that are able to get this meal and that don't. 00:16:33.19\00:16:36.59 You can see it in their skin and their hair, 00:16:36.62\00:16:40.86 it makes a difference. 00:16:40.90\00:16:42.16 Okay. 00:16:42.20\00:16:43.23 They're so precious. 00:19:27.00\00:19:27.96 Why does it make me so happy to see kids eating? 00:19:28.00\00:19:30.30 Maybe because it makes them smile. 00:19:30.33\00:19:32.33 Yeah. 00:19:32.37\00:19:33.40 It makes them happy, it makes their parents happy. 00:19:33.44\00:19:35.60 Yeah, that's precious. 00:19:35.64\00:19:36.67 And I think it makes God happy too. 00:19:36.71\00:19:38.07 Absolutely. 00:19:38.11\00:19:39.14 That why he's having us do this. 00:19:39.17\00:19:40.21 Yeah, absolutely. 00:19:40.24\00:19:41.64 I just wanted to point out that sometimes we... 00:19:41.68\00:19:44.68 The really poor or elderly ladies are, 00:19:44.71\00:19:47.15 you know, really destitute people 00:19:47.18\00:19:48.82 we allow them to eat there too. 00:19:48.85\00:19:50.22 Yeah. 00:19:50.25\00:19:51.29 So it's not just the kids 00:19:51.32\00:19:52.89 but whoever really, really needs it. 00:19:52.92\00:19:54.89 Right. 00:19:54.92\00:19:56.12 So you noticed they had to wash their hands at the beginning 00:19:56.16\00:19:59.03 and then they eat with their hands... 00:19:59.06\00:20:00.10 Yes. 00:20:00.13\00:20:01.10 Which is normal in all of India. 00:20:01.13\00:20:03.40 And my kids do that too when we go there. 00:20:03.43\00:20:05.23 And we do too. Yeah. 00:20:05.27\00:20:06.33 Admit it, you eat with your hands when you're there. 00:20:06.37\00:20:08.34 Okay, yep. 00:20:08.37\00:20:09.90 And then afterward they have to wash their dish. 00:20:09.94\00:20:12.47 Right. 00:20:12.51\00:20:13.54 And be a part of clean up 00:20:13.58\00:20:14.64 but they're also required to eat their vegetables. 00:20:14.68\00:20:16.98 When they first started 00:20:17.01\00:20:18.05 the kids weren't used to eating vegetables 00:20:18.08\00:20:19.78 and so they would set the vegetables aside 00:20:19.81\00:20:21.85 and try not to eat them, just eat the sauces 00:20:21.88\00:20:24.19 and, and he said no, no you have to eat the vegetables 00:20:24.22\00:20:27.49 because it's part of why we're giving you the food. 00:20:27.52\00:20:29.66 That's right, that's where the nutrition is. 00:20:29.69\00:20:31.09 Right. Thank you. 00:24:38.74\00:24:41.31 So it's such a blessing to have a good teacher 00:24:41.34\00:24:44.01 that's learning education, you know, 00:24:44.05\00:24:45.78 so she wants to be a teacher and she is, 00:24:45.81\00:24:48.68 is actually using her skills already. 00:24:48.72\00:24:51.29 Yeah. And that's such a blessing. 00:24:51.32\00:24:52.59 Yeah, and a little sad note in her life, 00:24:52.62\00:24:54.62 about a year ago her father passed away, 00:24:54.66\00:24:57.89 and so she and her mother are alone in the world, 00:24:57.93\00:25:00.93 and so pray for Nithi and her mother 00:25:00.96\00:25:03.83 that they can get through this 00:25:03.87\00:25:05.13 and even spite of it she's smiling 00:25:05.17\00:25:08.10 and she's encouraging the kids 00:25:08.14\00:25:09.87 and she's, she's serious about her work so... 00:25:09.90\00:25:13.17 That's really, really... 00:25:13.21\00:25:14.24 Really appreciate her. Yeah. 00:25:14.28\00:25:16.04 The next thing we want to talk about is the cost 00:25:16.08\00:25:18.45 of actually opening and running one of these schools. 00:25:18.48\00:25:21.85 So how much does it cost per child 00:25:21.88\00:25:24.95 to go to one of these schools? 00:25:24.99\00:25:26.32 It costs about $7 per child per month, 00:25:26.35\00:25:29.79 anywhere between 7 to 10 00:25:29.82\00:25:31.66 depending on whether we can use a church, 00:25:31.69\00:25:33.86 we have to rent a building, 00:25:33.90\00:25:35.00 and who we rented through and different things like that, 00:25:35.03\00:25:37.90 but 7 to $10 per month, per child 00:25:37.93\00:25:40.84 will provide this opportunity for a child in India. 00:25:40.87\00:25:44.64 Right, so that's about a quarter a day. 00:25:44.67\00:25:46.81 That's a big impact. 00:25:46.84\00:25:48.11 I mean that's a lot of bang for the buck... 00:25:48.14\00:25:49.74 Right. 00:25:49.78\00:25:50.81 To use it. That's true. 00:25:50.85\00:25:51.88 Western colloquialism. 00:25:51.91\00:25:53.31 Yes, and to open the schools. 00:25:55.58\00:25:57.69 How much does it cost to open a new school? 00:25:57.72\00:25:59.62 Generally it costs between 250 and $600 to open the school 00:25:59.65\00:26:03.53 because and a lot of that depends 00:26:03.56\00:26:05.23 on whether we can use a church 00:26:05.26\00:26:06.83 or if we have to rent and how much that rent is. 00:26:06.86\00:26:09.86 A lot of it depends on, you know, 00:26:09.90\00:26:11.43 how many kids are going to come. 00:26:11.47\00:26:12.80 Do they need to buy plates, 00:26:12.83\00:26:15.27 the school that we showed tonight 00:26:15.30\00:26:17.11 that Kathe Swami Palayam, 00:26:17.14\00:26:18.91 we were able to cook the food 00:26:18.94\00:26:20.71 in one of the neighbors' houses, 00:26:20.74\00:26:22.04 one the church member's houses right next door. 00:26:22.08\00:26:24.08 So we didn't have to buy the stove 00:26:24.11\00:26:25.98 and things like that, 00:26:26.01\00:26:27.25 that was already provided so, 00:26:27.28\00:26:28.95 but sometimes we have to buy all that plus... 00:26:28.98\00:26:32.09 Sometimes we have to build a kitchen. 00:26:32.12\00:26:34.26 Right or a toilet facility or something. 00:26:34.29\00:26:36.93 Yeah. 00:26:36.96\00:26:37.96 And so that's why it vary so widely 00:26:37.99\00:26:40.10 because a lot of people would say, 00:26:40.13\00:26:42.33 well that's like $350 difference 00:26:42.36\00:26:45.20 but it's because in some situations 00:26:45.23\00:26:47.74 we have to do extra. 00:26:47.77\00:26:49.64 Yeah, a lot of times that cost even more than that 00:26:49.67\00:26:51.77 building a kitchen and a latrine 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.54 then you're talking probably about a $1000 00:26:54.58\00:26:57.21 for both of those things, 00:26:57.25\00:26:58.31 but these churches just come just a square building. 00:26:58.35\00:27:01.65 You know no fellowship hall, 00:27:01.68\00:27:04.92 no toilet, no classroom, 00:27:04.95\00:27:08.02 you know, Sabbath school classroom, nothing. 00:27:08.06\00:27:09.59 It's just a square building and that's it. 00:27:09.62\00:27:12.33 And so where are they going to cook the food? 00:27:12.36\00:27:13.96 Right. 00:27:14.00\00:27:15.00 So a lot of these places 00:27:15.03\00:27:16.40 we have to add in a kitchen, latrine. 00:27:16.43\00:27:19.57 One of our schools that you saw, 00:27:19.60\00:27:21.04 she was in there, the cook was in there 00:27:21.07\00:27:22.37 praying over the food that's his house... 00:27:22.40\00:27:24.31 That was in the earlier video, yeah. 00:27:24.34\00:27:25.84 That just has a little wall in the back of the church 00:27:25.87\00:27:29.21 where they're supposed to and that's a latrine 00:27:29.24\00:27:31.78 but there is no toilet facilities, 00:27:31.81\00:27:33.65 there is no flushing, it's just the ground there. 00:27:33.68\00:27:36.12 So would love to build something there 00:27:36.15\00:27:38.25 that's a little bit more civilized. 00:27:38.29\00:27:40.06 Hygienic. 00:27:40.09\00:27:41.59 Yeah, exactly. 00:27:41.62\00:27:43.69 Well, I would like to thank our viewers 00:27:43.73\00:27:45.33 for joining us tonight. 00:27:45.36\00:27:46.43 And if you would like to be a part of helping these 00:27:46.46\00:27:49.16 and other beautiful children, 00:27:49.20\00:27:51.17 please send your tax deductible love gift 00:27:51.20\00:27:53.57 to Jesus for Asia, PO Box 1221, 00:27:53.60\00:27:57.17 Collegedale, Tennessee 37315. 00:27:57.21\00:28:00.68 Call us at 423-413-7321 00:28:00.71\00:28:04.85 or check out our website at Jesus4Asia.org. 00:28:04.88\00:28:08.82 May God richly bless you until we see you again 00:28:08.85\00:28:12.29 on Jesus for Asia Now. 00:28:12.32\00:28:13.82
