Water, we use it for many things 00:00:03.03\00:00:06.07 often without thinking about how much we use. 00:00:06.10\00:00:09.64 But what if your water was limited? 00:00:09.67\00:00:13.64 What if that water wasn't always safe to drink? 00:00:13.68\00:00:16.71 What if you only got access to water a few times a month? 00:00:16.75\00:00:20.52 That's the situation with many villages in India, 00:00:20.55\00:00:22.85 including this one. 00:00:22.88\00:00:24.45 I'm Kirk with Jesus for Asia. 00:00:30.59\00:00:32.73 And we're here to discover 00:00:32.76\00:00:34.56 what we can do to help these people 00:00:34.60\00:00:37.53 find consistently available pure water. 00:00:37.57\00:00:41.70 It's hard to imagine that 97 million people in India 00:01:19.21\00:01:23.65 lack access to safe water. 00:01:23.68\00:01:25.41 The second largest country in the world by population, 00:01:28.78\00:01:31.09 India is rich with culture and resources 00:01:31.12\00:01:35.42 with a growing economy and advancing technology. 00:01:35.46\00:01:39.89 Yet, with such growth, the nation as a whole faces 00:01:39.93\00:01:43.43 a monumental challenge. 00:01:43.47\00:01:46.80 Jesus for Asia has many projects throughout India. 00:01:46.84\00:01:49.94 And we have realized that the need for cleaning water 00:01:49.97\00:01:53.44 is a huge evangelistic opportunity 00:01:53.48\00:01:56.88 to share the love of Jesus with these beautiful people. 00:01:56.91\00:02:00.32 So a team was sent to research how we can help provide 00:02:00.35\00:02:04.79 clean water to those in need. 00:02:04.82\00:02:08.56 Water is one of the most basic needs 00:02:08.59\00:02:10.06 of every human being on earth. 00:02:10.09\00:02:13.56 People understand that water is not optional, 00:02:13.60\00:02:16.40 it's a necessity. 00:02:16.43\00:02:17.63 That's why for thousands of years, 00:02:17.67\00:02:20.14 cities have been built near sources of fresh water. 00:02:20.17\00:02:25.91 But for the village of Bharathy Nagar, 00:02:25.94\00:02:27.14 there is no local water source. 00:02:27.18\00:02:30.51 The only source of fresh water comes from the government 00:02:30.55\00:02:33.68 and that is heavily rationed. 00:02:33.72\00:02:35.18 We ask Jesus for Asia, India Director Israel Prasad 00:02:35.22\00:02:39.22 to explain the situation to us. 00:02:39.25\00:02:42.66 In this village there is a lot of difficulties 00:02:46.66\00:02:49.46 with the water, getting good water, 00:02:49.50\00:02:51.60 regular water. 00:02:51.63\00:02:53.60 Weekly, once they get government water 00:02:53.64\00:02:56.87 and that to, it is only for one hour 00:02:56.91\00:02:59.47 and that is not regular. 00:02:59.51\00:03:01.08 Sometimes they get and sometimes they don't get. 00:03:01.11\00:03:03.81 Wow. 00:03:03.85\00:03:04.95 During the one hour time, four families will take water 00:03:04.98\00:03:08.45 in one tap. 00:03:08.48\00:03:09.65 So the first family will be taking 00:03:09.68\00:03:12.52 three pots of water 00:03:12.55\00:03:13.36 and once they are done with three pots, 00:03:13.39\00:03:16.29 then the next family will be taking. 00:03:16.32\00:03:18.06 So it is like that with the four, 00:03:18.09\00:03:20.46 and by the time it comes to the next, 00:03:20.50\00:03:23.80 if it is there, water is still coming, 00:03:23.83\00:03:25.57 they will go for the next round. 00:03:25.60\00:03:27.47 And then, if it is some more water comes, 00:03:27.50\00:03:29.04 you know, they will go for the third round, 00:03:29.07\00:03:31.34 which means per family the maximum water is 00:03:31.37\00:03:36.51 90 liters of water per week. 00:03:36.54\00:03:39.88 The whole week, they have to spend with that water only. 00:03:39.91\00:03:42.78 So that water is not only the water that they cook with, 00:03:42.82\00:03:45.49 it's the water they bathe with and the water they drink? 00:03:45.52\00:03:48.09 Drink. They do... 00:03:48.12\00:03:50.56 That's not very much water? 00:03:50.59\00:03:51.76 Yes, they have lot of difficulties. 00:03:51.79\00:03:55.30 Ninety liters of water is equivalent to 23.8 gallons. 00:03:55.33\00:04:00.47 But there are weeks, they don't even get 90 liters. 00:04:00.50\00:04:04.27 We have to go walking and look for water. 00:04:07.98\00:04:10.25 They will go nearly six to seven kilometers 00:04:10.28\00:04:13.35 to get good drinking water. 00:04:13.38\00:04:16.38 Wow. 00:04:16.42\00:04:17.79 Mostly, the ladies will go walking. 00:04:17.82\00:04:19.72 They keep one on their head, another one on their hip, 00:04:19.75\00:04:23.26 and they bring two at a time. 00:04:23.29\00:04:26.80 Now, that's pretty heavy? 00:04:26.83\00:04:27.60 Very heavy. 00:04:27.60\00:04:28.80 Wow. 00:04:28.83\00:04:31.17 Sometimes we find water close and sometimes we have to walk 00:04:31.20\00:04:35.90 many kilometers to find water. 00:04:35.94\00:04:38.04 Oh, I just can't imagine. 00:04:38.07\00:04:39.34 I can't imagine doing that in the heat. 00:04:39.37\00:04:42.64 It's really difficult. 00:04:42.68\00:04:43.61 But anyhow, they have to survive, you know. 00:04:43.65\00:04:46.82 And they have to use their water 00:04:46.85\00:04:48.45 very sparingly I would imagine. 00:04:48.48\00:04:50.85 Exactly. 00:04:50.89\00:04:52.02 You can imagine, 90 liters of water for one week. 00:04:52.05\00:04:53.36 Washing and bathing are very challenging 00:04:53.39\00:04:57.26 with so little water. 00:04:57.29\00:04:58.93 Just think how much you appreciate 00:05:00.40\00:05:04.70 clean, pure drinking water. 00:05:04.73\00:05:08.14 How much do you appreciate that you don't have to walk 00:05:08.17\00:05:10.54 seven kilometers to go get water everyday. 00:05:10.57\00:05:13.61 How much do you appreciate 00:05:13.64\00:05:15.68 that every time you turn on your tap, 00:05:15.71\00:05:17.25 you have water. 00:05:17.28\00:05:18.71 Well, this village, 00:05:18.75\00:05:19.61 as you've seen from our previous footage, 00:05:19.65\00:05:22.62 they don't have that luxury. 00:05:22.65\00:05:25.12 There should be a basic fundamental... 00:05:25.15\00:05:29.22 What am I trying to say? 00:05:29.26\00:05:30.83 This, this should be a need that everyone has met, 00:05:30.86\00:05:34.86 food and water. 00:05:34.93\00:05:35.96 Those are basic needs in life. 00:05:36.00\00:05:38.63 It's difficult for us to imagine a life like that. 00:05:38.67\00:05:42.30 I wanted to see what it would be like 00:05:47.01\00:05:48.21 for an American family to live with the same amount of water 00:05:48.24\00:05:51.55 that the villagers in Bharathy Nagar get. 00:05:51.58\00:05:55.05 So I went to visit my good friends 00:05:55.08\00:05:56.65 Brian and Chris and their three children 00:05:56.69\00:05:59.25 Lilly and Sarah and Luke 00:05:59.29\00:06:01.22 and challenge them to see if they could live 00:06:01.26\00:06:04.66 on such a limited supply of water. 00:06:04.69\00:06:07.13 The average American family of four uses 00:06:09.56\00:06:11.50 2,100 to 2,800 gallons of water per week. 00:06:11.53\00:06:16.47 That is equivalent to three to four hundred gallons per day. 00:06:16.50\00:06:19.51 A family in Bharathy Nagar gets a maximum of 00:06:24.38\00:06:27.95 90 liters of water a week, 00:06:27.98\00:06:30.02 which is equivalent to 23.8 gallons. 00:06:30.05\00:06:33.42 That is only 3.4 gallons a day. 00:06:33.46\00:06:39.76 One, 00:06:39.79\00:06:42.00 two, 00:06:42.03\00:06:44.87 three, 00:06:44.90\00:06:47.14 0.4 gallons of water a day. 00:06:47.17\00:06:50.47 For the whole family? 00:07:18.37\00:07:19.43 Hello! 00:07:37.65\00:07:40.69 I have come to Bethel Children's Home 00:07:46.13\00:07:47.60 in South India 00:07:47.66\00:07:48.50 because I heard they were having 00:07:48.53\00:07:50.73 some trouble with the water. 00:07:50.77\00:07:51.63 And I wanted to find out from Israel Prasad 00:07:51.67\00:07:54.87 if the situation had improved. 00:07:54.90\00:07:57.77 We had water in this well 00:07:57.81\00:08:00.34 when I first came to see this property, 00:08:00.38\00:08:02.74 and later, it got fully dried up, 00:08:02.78\00:08:05.38 there was no water. 00:08:05.41\00:08:06.48 So there was a problem with the water. 00:08:06.51\00:08:09.78 Then we thought of putting a borewell, 00:08:09.82\00:08:12.95 you know, a deep well. 00:08:12.99\00:08:14.26 Okay. 00:08:14.29\00:08:15.22 We went up to 1,000 feet and there was no water 00:08:15.26\00:08:17.76 and while drilling, it was just smoke. 00:08:17.79\00:08:20.70 Oh, really? So... 00:11:15.84\00:11:17.24 Every time it's flushed. 00:11:17.27\00:11:18.27 Or you make it that once I think maybe. 00:11:18.31\00:11:21.74 Oh, I mean, you have to. 00:11:21.78\00:11:24.25 We could never flush the toilet, Mom. 00:11:24.28\00:11:25.95 Press. 00:11:25.98\00:11:28.48 No! 00:11:28.52\00:11:30.09 Do you want water? 00:11:30.12\00:11:30.75 Yeah. 00:11:30.79\00:11:31.89 Or do you want the shovel? 00:11:31.92\00:11:33.05 Right, how much water does this take to run? 00:11:39.96\00:11:42.96 Oh, probably only about 15 gallons. 00:11:43.00\00:11:44.73 But I'll do that. 00:11:44.77\00:11:46.70 We're here in the village of Harur today. 00:12:31.65\00:12:33.82 I came here two years ago, and at that time 00:12:33.85\00:12:37.02 I learned there was a real problem with the water. 00:12:37.05\00:12:40.29 I first noticed it with the children. 00:12:40.32\00:12:42.42 Every child had yellow stains on their teeth. 00:12:42.46\00:12:46.43 It wasn't just the children, it was young and old. 00:12:46.46\00:12:50.43 And I enquired what was going on 00:12:50.47\00:12:51.67 and someone told me, 00:12:51.70\00:12:53.03 well, that's due to the salt content in the water. 00:12:53.07\00:12:57.74 The water is very salty and difficulty to drink. 00:12:57.77\00:13:01.98 We get stains on our teeth and have stomachache sometimes. 00:13:02.01\00:13:05.81 Because of this water, we're losing our eyesight. 00:13:05.85\00:13:10.05 The quality of the water is literally causing 00:13:14.59\00:13:17.59 the people to go blind. 00:13:17.63\00:13:22.60 My own father is suffering from weak bones. 00:13:22.63\00:13:25.60 And another relative has kidney failure. 00:13:25.63\00:13:27.64 Many people have black spots on their skin. 00:13:27.67\00:13:30.67 Even our animals don't drink this water. 00:13:30.71\00:13:32.74 When we go to doctor with our diseases, 00:13:40.75\00:13:43.65 the doctor says the water is the cause. 00:13:43.69\00:13:47.26 He is asking us to drink purified water, 00:13:47.29\00:13:48.86 but we can't afford to buy that water. 00:13:48.89\00:13:52.36 So we have to drink this water and get these diseases. 00:13:52.39\00:13:57.80 The purified water that is around here 00:13:57.83\00:14:00.57 has so much chlorine that it's harder to drink 00:14:00.60\00:14:03.37 than the salt water. 00:14:03.41\00:14:04.47 So I just wondered, do we have an idea of a solution 00:14:04.51\00:14:08.81 for this problem here? 00:14:08.84\00:14:10.41 Yes, I was talking with the church pastor. 00:14:10.45\00:14:12.71 Okay. 00:14:12.75\00:14:13.85 And he read on a magazine, 00:14:13.88\00:14:15.85 a local newspaper that there is a project 00:14:15.88\00:14:20.29 to clean this water, purify it, and they store it in a tank. 00:14:20.32\00:14:25.03 Okay. 00:14:25.06\00:14:26.29 For the public they give a coin which is about one rupee coin. 00:14:26.33\00:14:29.86 Okay. 00:14:29.90\00:14:31.00 They insert inside the machine 00:14:31.03\00:14:33.67 and they get 20 liters of water, purified water. 00:14:33.70\00:14:36.71 Wonderful. 00:14:36.74\00:14:37.84 So I've asked the pastor to enquire 00:14:37.87\00:14:40.08 about how much it will cost 00:14:40.11\00:14:42.61 and what are those things need to be done. 00:14:42.64\00:14:42.88 Okay. 00:14:42.91\00:14:43.85 So first of all we need a borewell 00:14:43.88\00:14:46.28 right in this church. 00:14:46.31\00:14:47.42 Okay. Because there is no water here. 00:14:47.45\00:14:49.32 Okay. 00:14:49.35\00:14:50.52 And I was told that there is no other water sources nearby 00:14:50.55\00:14:53.99 like river or a pond or anything else. 00:14:54.02\00:14:56.42 So people 100 percent they are depending 00:14:56.46\00:14:57.86 on the ground water here in this village. 00:14:57.89\00:15:01.96 So it is important that we have a bore drilling 00:15:02.00\00:15:05.47 here in the church. 00:15:05.50\00:15:07.04 And then if you plant that purifying water, 00:15:07.07\00:15:10.54 it will be a great blessing. 00:15:10.57\00:15:11.91 And right now I was told that 00:15:11.94\00:15:14.44 in order to get a good purified water, 00:15:14.48\00:15:17.18 they are paying 30 rupees for that 20 liters. 00:15:17.21\00:15:20.82 Wow, 30? Wow. Yes. 00:15:20.85\00:15:22.88 And where the poor people are not afford to do it, 00:15:22.92\00:15:26.89 they are forced to drink this salty water. 00:15:26.92\00:15:29.36 Yes. 00:15:29.39\00:15:30.53 And as a result, like you said, 00:15:30.56\00:15:31.69 they end up having all these physical problems. 00:15:31.73\00:15:34.63 Yes, yes. 00:15:34.66\00:15:35.90 And the most saddest part is, sometimes they even get cancer. 00:15:35.93\00:15:40.07 Oh, no. 00:15:40.10\00:15:41.27 And the bones are so weak. 00:15:41.30\00:15:41.94 Yes. 00:15:41.97\00:15:44.01 You know, it's very sad. Yes. 00:15:44.04\00:15:46.57 But something has to be done about it. 00:15:46.61\00:15:47.31 Exactly. 00:15:47.34\00:15:48.54 So I'm glad to hear that there is a solution. 00:15:48.58\00:15:51.15 Yes, there is a solution. 00:15:51.18\00:15:53.05 By God's grace if you get a good drinking, 00:15:53.08\00:15:56.35 purified water here itself without any chlorine or any, 00:15:56.38\00:15:59.95 you know, chemicals, it will be a blessing for us. 00:16:00.06\00:16:03.02 You know, I thought really almost foolish 00:16:03.06\00:16:06.26 years ago when we came here 00:16:06.29\00:16:08.23 and we did a health presentation 00:16:08.26\00:16:09.93 and we talked about nutrition and pure water. 00:16:09.96\00:16:14.37 And it wasn't until, afterwards that I found out 00:16:14.40\00:16:17.37 that this village, they don't have pure water. 00:16:17.41\00:16:19.57 They can't get it. Yes. 00:16:19.61\00:16:21.64 So I felt a bit foolish I must say, 00:16:21.68\00:16:23.58 because it is so important to health 00:16:23.61\00:16:25.95 to have fundamental basics. 00:16:25.98\00:16:28.98 Pure water is a fundamental basic need that we all need. 00:16:29.02\00:16:33.32 Yes, you are right. 00:16:33.36\00:16:34.26 So I really want to thank you for sharing. 00:16:34.29\00:16:37.26 We decided to investigate the myriad of complaints 00:16:56.08\00:16:58.15 from the villagers of Harur 00:16:58.18\00:17:00.42 as a result of drinking the salty water 00:17:00.45\00:17:02.95 of their village. 00:17:02.98\00:17:04.02 How could so many health problems 00:17:04.05\00:17:07.06 result from drinking salty water? 00:17:07.09\00:17:09.92 As it turns out, our research shows 00:17:09.96\00:17:13.23 that the salty taste of the water 00:17:13.26\00:17:15.70 is the least of the problems. 00:17:15.73\00:17:17.77 The people blame the salt, not knowing that 00:17:17.80\00:17:20.57 one of the greatest problems with their water is fluoride, 00:17:20.60\00:17:24.84 which causes fluorosis. 00:17:24.87\00:17:25.97 Nearly every complaint that was expressed 00:17:26.01\00:17:29.18 from ingesting this salty water is attributable to fluoride. 00:17:29.21\00:17:33.98 Fluoride and other contaminants 00:17:34.02\00:17:37.49 also enter the body through ingested food 00:17:37.52\00:17:40.82 that has been grown in the contaminated water. 00:17:40.86\00:17:44.46 Other toxic contaminants such as arsenic, 00:17:44.49\00:17:47.76 iron, nitrates, heavy metals 00:17:47.83\00:17:50.50 and chloroform can be found in the water 00:17:50.53\00:17:53.20 in different areas of India in un-permissible levels. 00:17:53.23\00:17:58.87 All of these contaminants carry in their train 00:17:58.91\00:18:01.28 nothing but woe and misery for men, 00:18:01.31\00:18:05.15 women, children and livestock. 00:18:05.18\00:18:08.48 Today is an exciting day 00:18:26.13\00:18:29.07 for the village of Bharathy Nagar. 00:18:29.10\00:18:31.37 Through the generous contributions 00:18:31.41\00:18:33.61 of donors in North America, 00:18:33.64\00:18:35.44 Jesus for Asia was able to hire a crew to drill a well 00:18:35.48\00:18:39.95 next to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:18:39.98\00:18:42.38 And nearby Hindu temple 00:18:42.42\00:18:44.19 had attempted to drill a well seven months ago, 00:18:44.22\00:18:47.62 but they did not find any water. 00:18:47.66\00:18:50.63 We were praying earnestly that 00:18:50.66\00:18:52.29 God will provide water in our well to be a witness 00:18:52.33\00:18:55.46 to the whole village of His power and love. 00:18:55.50\00:18:58.30 So this well that I know 00:19:34.14\00:19:36.10 God is gonna bring water from today, 00:19:36.14\00:19:39.27 it's gonna make a huge impact on this village. 00:19:39.31\00:19:42.41 Definitely, yes. 00:19:42.44\00:19:44.21 It's going to be a blessing for all the village people. 00:19:44.25\00:19:48.38 And that is the reason we have put this well, you know, here. 00:19:48.42\00:19:51.95 And our church is not going to be a church for, 00:19:51.99\00:19:56.26 only for Seventh-day Adventists, 00:19:56.29\00:19:58.66 it's going to be a place 00:19:58.69\00:20:00.70 where people will quench their thirst from today on. 00:20:00.73\00:20:03.77 Wonderful. 00:20:03.80\00:20:04.90 So we thank the Lord for this beautiful project, 00:20:04.93\00:20:07.67 the vision for this project. 00:20:07.70\00:20:10.01 Absolutely. That's great. 00:20:10.04\00:20:11.31 I mean what a testimony it can be in this village 00:20:11.34\00:20:14.68 where not everyone is a Christian. 00:20:14.71\00:20:16.34 Exactly. You're right. 00:20:16.38\00:20:18.48 It is going to bring a very good impact 00:20:18.51\00:20:21.98 on our church. 00:20:22.02\00:20:22.75 It sounds like we need to do this 00:20:22.78\00:20:24.79 in quite a few other villages. 00:20:24.82\00:20:25.35 Oh, yes, yes. 00:20:25.39\00:20:26.09 There are so many other villages 00:20:26.12\00:20:28.26 where they don't have water. 00:20:28.29\00:20:29.89 Some places they have, but it's a salty water, 00:20:29.92\00:20:32.59 but still people are using the same salty water. 00:20:32.63\00:20:36.83 So, you know, we are in need of more bores like this. 00:20:36.87\00:20:40.24 In Bharathy Nagar the borewell has been drilling 00:20:59.09\00:21:01.12 for over seven hours and scores of villagers 00:21:01.16\00:21:04.39 have gathered to watch the progress. 00:21:04.43\00:21:08.06 Two hundred and fifty feet feet down the drill struck water, 00:21:08.10\00:21:10.67 but it was not enough for a well, 00:21:10.70\00:21:12.13 so we had to keep drilling. 00:21:12.17\00:21:14.84 Since then, the drill has been spewing only dust. 00:21:14.87\00:21:17.24 And there's great worry that this well will also be dry 00:21:17.27\00:21:21.54 like the one next to the Hindu temple. 00:21:21.58\00:21:24.81 Everyone is hoping and praying 00:21:24.85\00:21:26.28 that soon we will see a small change 00:21:26.31\00:21:28.88 in the color of the dust 00:21:28.92\00:21:30.69 indicating the presence of water. 00:21:30.72\00:21:34.32 Right now we are nearing about 760 feet. 00:21:34.36\00:21:38.99 And now the dust which comes out 00:21:39.03\00:21:40.53 is a little wet, and that's a very good sign. 00:21:40.56\00:21:43.97 When the borewell was drilling, I just came this side, 00:22:04.39\00:22:08.22 you know, backside of the church 00:22:08.26\00:22:10.19 to see those men who were drilling, 00:22:10.23\00:22:13.66 to talk to them, I was surprised to see, 00:22:13.70\00:22:16.20 there were two ladies at each side of the church, 00:22:16.23\00:22:21.07 crying bitterly, 00:22:21.10\00:22:22.60 praying to the Lord for the water. 00:22:22.64\00:22:26.17 You know, I was completely touched, 00:22:26.21\00:22:30.78 because the whole church was praying. 00:22:30.81\00:22:32.58 Wonderful. 00:22:32.61\00:22:33.78 Everyone was praying. 00:22:33.82\00:22:37.09 Because as we mentioned, it is kind of, you know, 00:22:37.12\00:22:40.62 Satan didn't have water, 00:22:40.66\00:22:42.89 but the living God what is it with Him, 00:22:42.92\00:22:46.13 you know, like, what is He going to do? 00:22:46.16\00:22:49.00 He did a miraculous thing. 00:22:49.03\00:22:50.53 We have prayed, and prayed, not only one day or two days, 00:22:56.47\00:23:02.08 a very long time we prayed here in this chapel. 00:23:02.11\00:23:06.68 Really, God has answered to our prayers. 00:23:06.72\00:23:11.15 Since we are praying here in faith, that faith today, 00:23:11.19\00:23:17.93 we have seen with our eyes 00:23:17.96\00:23:20.40 that borewell is already done here. 00:23:20.43\00:23:23.60 We will get water. 00:23:23.63\00:23:25.50 Really, the God is great. 00:23:25.53\00:23:27.70 He will help not only with water, 00:23:27.74\00:23:29.54 in every need, our God will provide for us. 00:23:29.57\00:23:35.28 Unfortunately, we could not stay in the village 00:23:35.31\00:23:37.78 to taste the water. 00:23:37.81\00:23:38.75 But before we left for another area of India, 00:23:38.78\00:23:41.48 a couple of villagers came to our hotel 00:23:41.52\00:23:43.72 and brought a sample of the water 00:23:43.75\00:23:45.32 for Israel to taste. 00:23:45.35\00:23:47.36 The water is discolored because of the grease 00:23:47.39\00:23:49.26 from the drilling. 00:23:49.29\00:23:50.69 But all the greasy water will be pumped out 00:23:50.73\00:23:52.53 and it will be clear after that. 00:23:52.56\00:23:57.30 Is this water... 00:23:57.33\00:23:58.47 I mean, a lot of the water in India 00:23:58.50\00:24:00.87 can have a salty taste. 00:24:00.90\00:24:01.90 You're gonna be able to determine 00:24:01.94\00:24:03.97 if this is salty or if it has a sweet taste. 00:24:04.01\00:24:08.01 Yes, yes. 00:24:08.04\00:24:09.61 We're exciting. 00:24:09.64\00:24:10.75 Okay. 00:24:10.78\00:24:16.05 It is very nice, no salt, 00:24:16.08\00:24:17.49 only the grease taste was there. 00:24:17.52\00:24:20.79 You know, if all those grease and everything is gone, 00:24:20.82\00:24:23.76 the water is really tasty. 00:24:23.79\00:24:24.93 The Hindu people from across the street 00:24:28.83\00:24:30.57 thought we spent so much money, but didn't find water. 00:24:30.60\00:24:34.77 But this morning they saw the church members 00:24:34.80\00:24:36.67 letting a bottle down with a rope 00:24:36.71\00:24:38.54 and when they pulled it up, there was water. 00:24:38.57\00:24:41.44 After the church member tasted the water, 00:24:41.48\00:24:44.98 a Hindu man tasted and said, wow, it's nice drinking water. 00:24:45.01\00:24:49.85 What an amazing witness for God. 00:24:49.88\00:24:52.55 Despite the evidence that seem to indicate 00:24:52.59\00:24:55.39 that drilling a well would be useless, 00:24:55.42\00:24:57.89 God blessed the faith and prayers of His people 00:24:57.93\00:25:00.63 by providing water in the well. 00:25:00.66\00:25:04.23 Pastor Gabriel is the minister 00:25:08.30\00:25:09.40 for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Harur. 00:25:09.44\00:25:13.17 We asked him to explain the potential impact 00:25:13.21\00:25:16.38 if we provide clean water for his village. 00:25:16.41\00:25:20.75 I think if we can drill a borewell and purify the water 00:25:20.78\00:25:24.59 and give it to the people, then through that 00:25:24.62\00:25:27.46 we can share the love of Jesus 00:25:27.49\00:25:29.72 and many people will turn from the world and follow Him. 00:25:29.76\00:25:33.53 I think of the Samaritan woman who met Jesus 00:25:33.56\00:25:37.20 while she went to get water. 00:25:37.23\00:25:38.43 And many people came to know about Him 00:25:38.47\00:25:40.97 because of her witness. 00:25:41.00\00:25:42.44 The same way, this place can be a blessing 00:25:42.47\00:25:46.27 if we have good water. 00:25:46.31\00:25:48.21 Because the biggest need of this village is water. 00:25:48.24\00:25:52.08 If we give them good water, 00:25:52.11\00:25:53.45 then they will be opened to the gospel. 00:25:53.48\00:25:55.62 Here in the first world, our water supply is abundant. 00:26:00.36\00:26:03.83 As a matter of fact, my family and I 00:26:03.86\00:26:06.59 use more than 100 times the amount of water 00:26:06.63\00:26:09.60 that some families in India get in a day. 00:26:09.63\00:26:13.77 That got me thinking. 00:26:13.80\00:26:15.50 Pure water is a basic human need as is the gospel. 00:26:15.54\00:26:20.31 No one should have to suffer for lack of water 00:26:20.34\00:26:23.75 or be poisoned by contaminated water, 00:26:23.78\00:26:25.75 especially the children. 00:26:25.78\00:26:27.55 Yet our brothers and sisters 00:26:27.58\00:26:30.35 are suffering from these dangers. 00:26:30.39\00:26:33.12 The water crisis in India 00:26:33.15\00:26:35.42 is a tremendous evangelistic opportunity 00:26:35.46\00:26:38.59 for the 97 million people who lack access to pure water 00:26:38.63\00:26:43.83 and a saving knowledge of their only hope, Jesus Christ. 00:26:43.87\00:26:47.74 While their biggest felt need is water, 00:26:47.77\00:26:50.51 the greater need is Christ. 00:26:50.54\00:26:53.14 While here on earth, 00:26:53.17\00:26:54.68 He spent most of His ministry 00:26:54.71\00:26:56.71 meeting the felt needs of the people. 00:26:56.75\00:26:58.65 After winning their confidence, 00:26:58.68\00:27:01.42 they were then opened to hear His teachings. 00:27:01.45\00:27:04.15 In providing pure water, 00:27:04.19\00:27:06.49 we're following Christ's example 00:27:06.52\00:27:07.99 by meeting their needs. 00:27:08.02\00:27:10.06 His love is seen in our actions and their hearts are softened, 00:27:10.09\00:27:14.93 the walls of prejudice are broken down. 00:27:14.96\00:27:18.20 When we drill a well on church property, 00:27:18.23\00:27:20.67 everyone who goes there to satisfy their thirst 00:27:20.70\00:27:24.94 is made aware of a greater thirst 00:27:24.97\00:27:27.81 that only Christ can quench. 00:27:27.84\00:27:31.11 We're so thankful for the donors 00:27:31.15\00:27:33.18 that made this well in Bharathy Nagar possible. 00:27:33.21\00:27:37.05 But many more need to be drilled 00:27:37.09\00:27:38.99 and more research is needed on water purification systems. 00:27:39.02\00:27:43.69 Please consider partnering with us today 00:27:43.73\00:27:46.86 to help meet both the physical and spiritual crisis 00:27:46.90\00:27:51.03 that these many villages in India face. 00:27:51.07\00:27:53.70
