Today, we want to introduce
you to one of our missionaries.

You know, Jesus for
Asia wasn't originally

a sending organization.

That's right.

We would try to
enable the local missionary

to do the work in
their own country,

but some of our
friends saw what we were doing

and saw what the need was

and they wanted to get involved.

And so they went and did
a short-term mission trip,

and as you know,
they just never came back.

And the story
that we have for today,

the young man that
we're going to talk about.

youngest of four brothers,

and his oldest brother went on
a mission trip with us in 2007.

And he never came back.

Well, it was a two-month trip

and he didn't come
back from that trip.

but he decided to stay

and Travis decided to go

for a three-month trip.

brought the youngest

little bit reluctantly.

out with Travis's story.

Last year when
I was in Thailand,

I had the privilege of
going with Travis Sharon

to visit his school
deep in the mountains.

Sometimes it's
hard being a missionary

but it's well worth it.

I wanted to discover

why this young man was working
alone at this remote village.

So I asked him to tell me
the story of how he became

a frontline missionary.

I started hang
gliding at nine years old.

Just the year
prior to us coming over,

I had decided that

I wanted to put model airplane
engines on the hand glider

so that we
didn't have to glide off

the mountains any more,

we could take off
out of the valleys.

And I had built it,
but I hadn't flown it.

So I didn't want to go to Asia

even though my
parents were going

and all my
brothers were over there.

My dream was to fly.

So when they said
that they were going,

I didn't want to go.

I tried to find
excuses why I didn't need to go

and why I actually should stay.

And 2009 is when we actually
flew over for three months

brothers, the schools,

were going back home.

was my favorite part

about the whole trip, at
least that's what I thought.

decision to stay long-term.

hardships to work for God,

Then it's only a
12-mile hike to get in.

He's pretty far out
there in the jungle.

the joys were for Travis.

accepting and changing.

The man that's been helping
me a lot around the school,

finally given up coffee.

He was the worst coffee
drinker I've ever seen up here.

not to drink coffee,

but I did show in the Bible

what it says about
taking care of our bodies.

And that was his own decision.

It's nice to see
that there's joys also

in the midst of hardship.

And that's the
purpose, you know,

nobody wants to go out

and have hardship
for the sake of hardship.

But everyone that I
know that's out there

enduring hardship has a goal,

and they have a vision,

and they're looking
forward to that time

when people
start accepting Jesus.

And then after that,
when we all go to heaven

and we see our reward,

we get to realize the treasures

that we've built up
here on earth in heaven.

And as we convert our
treasure from this world,

and it's not just
financial treasure,

converting it into souls,
which is heavenly treasure,

but it's also our time,
our talents, our imaginations,

all the resources
that God has given us

in all these different areas,

investing those into converting

And that's the goal,

motivates these missionaries.

the need for revival.

what he thought was the reason

I think we have lost our focus.

The drive to share
what we know is lost.

We as Christians,
we don't even know

what we're supposed to be doing.

We read the Bible.

We see what it says

applies to the other guy

and not everybody needs to go

to stay in the States

or wherever it's comfortable.

Few people feel called to go.

We don't feel the
necessity to share anymore.

We've lost our
mission to reach the world

and each generation,
we're going backwards,

so there's something wrong.

I think there needs to
be a revival in our church.

of us to share what we know.

a revival in spirituality

just to make us feel good

When the disciples

for the Holy Spirit

They said we can't do
this, we're not good enough.

We're not able

we don't have the power
to say the words or to go.

We don't have the courage.

And so the Holy
Spirit was poured out

believe Christ lived his life

for the resurrection, my life,

I would be the most miserable,

because he had a miserable life,

you know, shipwrecked,
killed several times,

beaten up, you know,
all this terrible life.

But he was looking
forward to that time

when he would
meet Jesus face to face

and he would enter into a life

that would make everything,
all of his sacrifice,

all of his investment,

and they'd start
seeing the people

that he's
influenced to be in heaven.

And that's his reward.

geared toward that time.

We as the people we think

thing about missions is that
