Hello and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now. 00:00:21.65\00:00:23.82 I'm Natalie Wood and I'm here with my husband John. 00:00:23.85\00:00:26.42 Hi, darling. Hello, love. 00:00:26.45\00:00:28.52 You know, Jesus for Asia is a non-profit ministry 00:00:28.56\00:00:31.06 based in Collegedale, Tennessee 00:00:31.09\00:00:33.06 we're a project oriented with over 40 projects 00:00:33.09\00:00:35.63 ranging from sponsoring National Bible workers 00:00:35.66\00:00:38.10 to missionaries going from America to other countries, 00:00:38.13\00:00:40.84 mass media and books, radios, and TV, 00:00:40.87\00:00:43.57 children's ministries like orphanages and evening schools, 00:00:43.61\00:00:46.78 and even a widow sewing school. 00:00:46.81\00:00:48.84 There's something for everyone 00:00:48.88\00:00:50.15 to get involved with in God's work, 00:00:50.18\00:00:52.08 however the Spirit leads them. 00:00:52.11\00:00:53.72 Today, we want to introduce you to one of our missionaries. 00:00:53.75\00:00:57.45 You know, Jesus for Asia wasn't originally 00:00:57.49\00:00:59.15 a sending organization. 00:00:59.19\00:01:00.32 That's right. 00:01:00.36\00:01:01.49 We would try to enable the local missionary 00:01:01.52\00:01:03.99 to do the work in their own country, 00:01:04.03\00:01:05.39 but some of our friends saw what we were doing 00:01:05.43\00:01:07.40 and saw what the need was 00:01:07.46\00:01:09.06 and they wanted to get involved. 00:01:09.10\00:01:10.27 And so they went and did a short-term mission trip, 00:01:10.30\00:01:13.94 and as you know, they just never came back. 00:01:13.97\00:01:17.21 Right. 00:01:17.24\00:01:18.31 And the story that we have for today, 00:01:18.34\00:01:19.87 the young man that we're going to talk about. 00:01:19.91\00:01:21.28 Yes. 00:01:21.31\00:01:22.38 Is actually the youngest of four brothers, 00:01:22.41\00:01:23.91 and his oldest brother went on a mission trip with us in 2007. 00:01:23.95\00:01:28.72 And he never came back. 00:01:28.75\00:01:30.52 Well. Yeah. 00:01:30.55\00:01:33.15 Well, it was a two-month trip 00:01:33.19\00:01:34.42 and he didn't come back from that trip. 00:01:34.46\00:01:36.19 Yeah. 00:01:36.22\00:01:37.26 And you had to call and talk to his mom. 00:01:37.29\00:01:38.63 Yeah, he had to have permission but he decided to stay 00:01:38.66\00:01:41.70 because he saw the need. 00:01:41.73\00:01:43.13 And then after a couple of years, 00:01:43.16\00:01:44.60 he went home and he got his next two younger brothers 00:01:44.63\00:01:46.87 and brought them to Asia. 00:01:46.90\00:01:48.34 One of them works in Thailand and the other one in Cambodia. 00:01:48.37\00:01:51.37 And then it was just the parents 00:01:51.41\00:01:53.17 and the youngest one Travis left in America. 00:01:53.21\00:01:56.11 And then the parents and Travis decided to go 00:01:56.14\00:01:58.68 for a three-month trip. 00:01:58.71\00:02:00.22 And we'll see that story 00:02:00.25\00:02:01.45 but I think they brought the youngest 00:02:01.48\00:02:02.82 kind of a little bit reluctantly. 00:02:02.85\00:02:04.79 Right. 00:02:04.82\00:02:06.02 But now he's working with his own project in his own village 00:02:06.05\00:02:09.26 and doing an amazing work. 00:02:09.29\00:02:10.76 Okay, let's start out with Travis's story. 00:02:10.79\00:02:13.60 Last year when I was in Thailand, 00:02:16.60\00:02:18.60 I had the privilege of going with Travis Sharon 00:02:18.63\00:02:20.80 to visit his school deep in the mountains. 00:02:20.84\00:02:24.17 Sometimes it's hard being a missionary 00:02:24.21\00:02:26.44 but it's well worth it. 00:02:26.47\00:02:28.58 I wanted to discover 00:02:28.61\00:02:29.81 why this young man was working alone at this remote village. 00:02:29.84\00:02:33.42 So I asked him to tell me the story of how he became 00:02:33.45\00:02:36.89 a frontline missionary. 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.75 I started hang gliding at nine years old. 00:02:38.79\00:02:42.19 Just the year prior to us coming over, 00:02:42.22\00:02:45.73 I had decided that 00:02:45.76\00:02:47.40 I wanted to put model airplane engines on the hand glider 00:02:47.40\00:02:52.70 so that we didn't have to glide off 00:02:52.73\00:02:54.40 the mountains any more, 00:02:54.44\00:02:55.47 we could take off out of the valleys. 00:02:55.50\00:02:57.24 And I had built it, but I hadn't flown it. 00:02:57.27\00:03:00.31 So I didn't want to go to Asia 00:03:00.34\00:03:04.25 even though my parents were going 00:03:04.28\00:03:06.31 and all my brothers were over there. 00:03:06.35\00:03:08.12 My dream was to fly. 00:03:08.15\00:03:10.25 So when they said that they were going, 00:03:10.29\00:03:14.09 I didn't want to go. 00:03:14.12\00:03:16.62 I tried to find excuses why I didn't need to go 00:03:16.66\00:03:21.80 and why I actually should stay. 00:03:21.83\00:03:24.50 I never could find any excuses why I should stay. 00:03:24.53\00:03:27.97 And 2009 is when we actually flew over for three months 00:03:28.00\00:03:32.64 to visit my brothers, the schools, 00:03:32.67\00:03:35.24 see the different projects, 00:03:35.28\00:03:36.58 and then we were going back home. 00:03:36.61\00:03:38.65 The going back home was my favorite part 00:03:38.68\00:03:40.38 about the whole trip, at least that's what I thought. 00:03:40.42\00:03:44.32 Having just explained 00:03:44.35\00:03:45.99 why he didn't want to go to Thailand, 00:03:46.02\00:03:47.96 I asked him what motivated him 00:03:47.99\00:03:49.56 to make the decision to stay long-term. 00:03:49.59\00:03:52.59 In America, I wasn't helping anyone. 00:03:52.63\00:03:54.46 There was nothing for anybody else. 00:03:54.46\00:03:56.43 I was living for me. 00:03:56.46\00:03:57.93 The hang glider, it was just for enjoyment, 00:03:57.97\00:04:01.30 it was just a toy, no useful part about it. 00:04:01.34\00:04:04.54 So I wanted to do something to help others. 00:04:04.57\00:04:08.81 Have you ever regretted that decision? 00:04:08.84\00:04:11.25 No, never. 00:04:11.28\00:04:13.55 Having known Travis for several years 00:04:13.58\00:04:16.15 and hearing about his work, 00:04:16.18\00:04:17.82 it was an incredible experience to see this young man 00:04:17.85\00:04:20.36 and the life he lives, 00:04:20.39\00:04:21.96 willing to endure hardships to work for God, 00:04:21.99\00:04:25.16 driving a motor bike to get supplies in, 00:04:25.19\00:04:27.13 expect in rainy season 00:04:27.13\00:04:28.73 when the road is too muddy to drive. 00:04:28.76\00:04:30.80 Then it's only a 12-mile hike to get in. 00:04:30.83\00:04:33.00 He's pretty far out there in the jungle. 00:04:36.74\00:04:38.21 He is really remote. 00:04:38.24\00:04:39.74 I haven't visited him yet 'cause it's so far out there. 00:04:39.77\00:04:42.28 I'm not sure if I'm in good enough shape. 00:04:42.31\00:04:45.48 Right. 00:04:45.51\00:04:46.55 Well, he's building a school. 00:04:46.58\00:04:47.65 And the first thing he needs is a dormitory. 00:04:47.68\00:04:49.82 So here's a picture of the dormitory. 00:04:49.85\00:04:52.15 Yeah. 00:04:52.19\00:04:53.25 Now this building in his remote area 00:04:53.29\00:04:56.19 isn't the same as like us building something here. 00:04:56.22\00:04:58.96 Here, we raise the money, we pay a contractor, 00:04:58.99\00:05:02.63 and he goes and he buys the supplies 00:05:02.66\00:05:04.83 and he puts the building together, 00:05:04.87\00:05:06.80 and then we show up with the key. 00:05:06.84\00:05:09.04 For him to build a dormitory, it took a lot more work. 00:05:09.07\00:05:12.94 And everything there is done manually, and so... 00:05:12.97\00:05:15.18 Right. 00:05:15.21\00:05:16.28 And most of it by him with one helper. 00:05:16.31\00:05:17.81 Right. 00:05:17.85\00:05:18.88 Now this next video is gonna be showing 00:05:18.91\00:05:20.35 what it takes to make a connection 00:05:20.38\00:05:22.32 with the outside world. 00:05:22.35\00:05:23.62 Okay, cell phone, internet? 00:05:23.65\00:05:25.85 Yep. Okay, here we go. 00:05:25.89\00:05:28.16 The nearest connection to the outside world is a hike 00:05:28.19\00:05:30.73 through a mount not too far away from the school. 00:05:30.76\00:05:34.73 Headed to the cell phone tower. 00:05:34.73\00:05:38.93 Should be about 20 minutes. 00:05:38.97\00:05:40.54 Here we are on a mountain about 20 minutes from the school 00:05:44.04\00:05:48.14 where we have phone service. 00:05:48.18\00:05:49.84 And so we can call in and out, 00:05:49.88\00:05:55.28 get internet sometimes 00:05:55.32\00:05:57.75 if you put the phone in the right spot. 00:05:57.79\00:06:01.72 After seeing a glimpse into the hardships of life 00:06:01.76\00:06:04.39 in the jungle, 00:06:04.43\00:06:05.43 I wondered what some of the joys were for Travis. 00:06:05.46\00:06:08.90 When you see people accepting and changing. 00:06:08.93\00:06:12.43 The man that's been helping me a lot around the school, 00:06:12.47\00:06:15.87 he told me that he has finally given up coffee. 00:06:15.90\00:06:19.51 He was the worst coffee drinker I've ever seen up here. 00:06:19.54\00:06:23.24 I never told him not to drink coffee, 00:06:23.28\00:06:26.88 but I did show in the Bible 00:06:26.92\00:06:29.15 what it says about taking care of our bodies. 00:06:29.18\00:06:34.59 And that was his own decision. 00:06:34.62\00:06:37.26 It's nice to see that there's joys also 00:06:37.29\00:06:39.86 in the midst of hardship. 00:06:39.89\00:06:42.03 And that's the purpose, you know, 00:06:42.06\00:06:44.37 nobody wants to go out 00:06:44.40\00:06:45.43 and have hardship for the sake of hardship. 00:06:45.47\00:06:47.64 But everyone that I know that's out there 00:06:47.67\00:06:49.64 enduring hardship has a goal, 00:06:49.67\00:06:51.81 and they have a vision, 00:06:51.84\00:06:52.91 and they're looking forward to that time 00:06:52.94\00:06:54.64 when people start accepting Jesus. 00:06:54.68\00:06:57.08 And then after that, when we all go to heaven 00:06:57.11\00:07:00.52 and we see our reward, 00:07:00.55\00:07:02.18 we get to realize the treasures 00:07:02.22\00:07:06.69 that we've built up here on earth in heaven. 00:07:06.72\00:07:08.69 And as we convert our treasure from this world, 00:07:08.72\00:07:11.83 and it's not just financial treasure, 00:07:11.86\00:07:14.10 converting it into souls, which is heavenly treasure, 00:07:14.13\00:07:17.00 but it's also our time, our talents, our imaginations, 00:07:17.03\00:07:19.33 our effort, everything that we have, 00:07:19.37\00:07:21.97 all the resources that God has given us 00:07:22.00\00:07:23.74 in all these different areas, 00:07:23.77\00:07:25.21 investing those into converting 00:07:25.24\00:07:27.81 or developing treasure for heaven. 00:07:27.84\00:07:29.91 And that's the goal, 00:07:29.94\00:07:31.08 that's the reason why this motivates these missionaries. 00:07:31.11\00:07:34.45 Right. 00:07:34.48\00:07:35.48 Now Travis has a few words of wisdom 00:07:35.52\00:07:37.29 for our church here in North America 00:07:37.32\00:07:39.25 about revival and the need for revival. 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.39 Okay. 00:07:41.42\00:07:42.62 With nearly a third of the world population 00:07:42.66\00:07:46.06 completely unreached by the Gospel, 00:07:46.09\00:07:48.10 I wanted to ask Travis what he thought was the reason 00:07:48.13\00:07:50.60 that there are so few missionaries 00:07:50.63\00:07:52.27 reaching the unreached. 00:07:52.30\00:07:55.34 I think we have lost our focus. 00:07:55.37\00:07:58.37 The drive to share what we know is lost. 00:07:58.41\00:08:03.81 We as Christians, we don't even know 00:08:03.85\00:08:05.95 what we're supposed to be doing. 00:08:05.98\00:08:07.38 We read the Bible. 00:08:07.42\00:08:08.78 We see what it says 00:08:08.82\00:08:10.65 and we think that applies to the other guy 00:08:10.69\00:08:12.65 and not everybody needs to go 00:08:12.69\00:08:15.32 because we need to stay in the States 00:08:15.36\00:08:18.33 or wherever it's comfortable. 00:08:18.36\00:08:20.36 Few people feel called to go. 00:08:20.40\00:08:22.73 We don't feel the necessity to share anymore. 00:08:22.76\00:08:26.63 We've lost our mission to reach the world 00:08:26.67\00:08:30.34 and each generation, we're going backwards, 00:08:30.37\00:08:33.51 so there's something wrong. 00:08:33.54\00:08:36.68 I think there needs to be a revival in our church. 00:08:36.71\00:08:39.85 God has called every one of us to share what we know. 00:08:39.88\00:08:44.62 Revival starts with me. Yeah. 00:08:44.65\00:08:46.39 Just one person. 00:08:46.42\00:08:47.42 Yeah, but it's not just a revival in spirituality 00:08:47.46\00:08:50.59 that's necessary 00:08:50.63\00:08:51.83 but revival for missions 00:08:51.86\00:08:54.50 because I believe that the Holy Spirit is given to us 00:08:54.56\00:08:57.33 for the purpose of missions. 00:08:57.37\00:08:59.00 He's not given to us just to make us feel good 00:08:59.03\00:09:02.04 or to have a better worship service. 00:09:02.07\00:09:03.84 I think he's given to us to motivate us to go... 00:09:03.87\00:09:06.71 When the disciples were in the upper room 00:09:06.74\00:09:08.68 after the day of Pentecost, 00:09:08.71\00:09:10.18 they were praying for the Holy Spirit 00:09:10.21\00:09:11.71 for the sake of taking the Gospel to the whole world 00:09:11.75\00:09:14.65 and they were overwhelmed. 00:09:14.68\00:09:16.02 They said we can't do this, we're not good enough. 00:09:16.05\00:09:18.39 We're not able enough, we're too selfish, 00:09:18.42\00:09:20.76 we, you know, 00:09:20.79\00:09:21.82 we don't have the power to say the words or to go. 00:09:21.86\00:09:25.69 We don't have the courage. 00:09:25.73\00:09:26.73 And so the Holy Spirit was poured out 00:09:26.76\00:09:28.90 and that's the reason you saw that. 00:09:28.93\00:09:30.70 And if we pray for the Holy Spirit for revival 00:09:30.73\00:09:34.67 with that same goal, 00:09:34.70\00:09:35.90 with that same purpose, saying, 00:09:35.94\00:09:37.17 Lord, there's, like he said, 00:09:37.21\00:09:39.11 over a third of the world still has no access 00:09:39.14\00:09:42.11 to the Gospel in their language or in their culture. 00:09:42.14\00:09:45.65 We need an outpouring of the Holy Spirit 00:09:45.68\00:09:47.42 to give us... 00:09:47.45\00:09:48.85 The ability to do that. 00:09:48.88\00:09:50.15 The ability or even to value 00:09:50.19\00:09:53.72 the task or the value the... 00:09:53.76\00:09:57.63 What do you call it? 00:09:57.66\00:09:58.69 The light that we have so that we're willing to go. 00:09:58.73\00:10:00.40 To value the call to go, 00:10:00.43\00:10:02.83 to value what we've been given enough 00:10:02.86\00:10:05.27 and to value others' souls 00:10:05.30\00:10:07.14 so that we value giving that light to them. 00:10:07.17\00:10:10.24 Right. Yeah. 00:10:10.27\00:10:11.74 And so as the farther 00:10:11.77\00:10:14.31 the Holy Spirit is pulled away from us, 00:10:14.34\00:10:16.38 the more self-absorbed we become, 00:10:16.41\00:10:18.45 more focused on our comfort, 00:10:18.48\00:10:20.05 the more focused on our lives we become. 00:10:20.08\00:10:22.98 Travis talks about that in this next clip. 00:10:23.02\00:10:25.45 He talks about why no one goes. 00:10:25.49\00:10:26.65 Okay. 00:10:26.69\00:10:28.79 What is the number one reason 00:10:28.82\00:10:30.83 there aren't more missionaries in the field? 00:10:30.86\00:10:33.29 Because they didn't go. 00:10:33.33\00:10:34.56 I'd have to think about that one a little bit. 00:10:43.47\00:10:45.44 I think one of the biggest reasons 00:10:45.47\00:10:49.14 why the missionaries do not go 00:10:49.18\00:10:51.15 and share the Gospel is because they are afraid, 00:10:51.18\00:10:55.92 afraid to leave what they know, afraid of the hardships. 00:10:55.95\00:10:59.95 But God has already promised to be with us 00:11:00.06\00:11:02.42 and to take care of those problems, 00:11:02.46\00:11:03.76 to take care of us, 00:11:03.79\00:11:05.39 but we still want to worry about what we wear, 00:11:05.43\00:11:07.76 what we eat, where we're gonna sleep 00:11:07.76\00:11:11.27 when God has promised that to us already. 00:11:11.30\00:11:14.44 I believe when the hard times are here, 00:11:14.47\00:11:18.24 we will have to do what we should have done now 00:11:18.27\00:11:21.78 when it is relatively easy to do. 00:11:21.81\00:11:26.58 Sometimes everywhere God leads you seems barred 00:11:26.61\00:11:30.52 with obstacles too great to encounter, 00:11:30.55\00:11:36.06 but we forget that God, He says, 00:11:36.09\00:11:40.40 "All things are possible." 00:11:40.43\00:11:42.76 And it is for us to obey His command 00:11:42.80\00:11:47.37 and to do what He has told us to do, 00:11:47.40\00:11:49.50 to open the way so that others can see Him. 00:11:49.54\00:11:54.31 It's not always easy 00:12:01.68\00:12:04.22 but it's what we are told to do. 00:12:04.25\00:12:07.79 If we were to be one of those lost souls 00:12:07.82\00:12:11.13 that have never heard the Gospel, 00:12:11.16\00:12:13.90 if we were in their place 00:12:13.93\00:12:16.53 and there were people who knew 00:12:16.56\00:12:20.44 but did not go, in the judgment, 00:12:20.47\00:12:24.44 how would we feel? 00:12:24.47\00:12:26.61 So that's a pretty serious 00:12:26.64\00:12:28.68 thought process for a young person. 00:12:28.71\00:12:31.01 You don't hear that very often. 00:12:31.05\00:12:32.48 No, no. 00:12:32.51\00:12:33.85 And the questions, you know, 00:12:33.88\00:12:35.12 why do we let the obstacles get in the way, 00:12:35.15\00:12:37.52 why is not the value of their eternal life 00:12:37.55\00:12:40.82 more to us than it is. 00:12:40.86\00:12:43.93 Yeah. 00:12:43.96\00:12:45.39 There's a lot of reward in seeing souls saved. 00:12:45.43\00:12:48.26 Yes. 00:12:48.30\00:12:49.60 This is how I believe Christ lived his life 00:12:49.63\00:12:51.40 with a continual view looking to the eternal life, 00:12:51.43\00:12:55.27 not getting caught up with what's happening in this life, 00:12:55.30\00:12:58.71 or not trying to make this life better for Himself, 00:12:58.74\00:13:02.48 but His whole focus was on the next life 00:13:02.51\00:13:04.85 and the eternal life. 00:13:04.88\00:13:05.95 And I think that's where Paul was also, 00:13:05.98\00:13:08.18 Paul the apostle, he says, 00:13:08.22\00:13:09.95 you know, if it wasn't for the resurrection, my life, 00:13:09.98\00:13:13.19 I would be the most miserable, 00:13:13.22\00:13:14.66 because he had a miserable life, 00:13:14.69\00:13:16.99 you know, shipwrecked, killed several times, 00:13:17.03\00:13:19.56 beaten up, you know, all this terrible life. 00:13:19.59\00:13:22.20 But he was looking forward to that time 00:13:22.23\00:13:24.67 when he would meet Jesus face to face 00:13:24.70\00:13:26.67 and he would enter into a life 00:13:26.70\00:13:28.30 that would make everything, all of his sacrifice, 00:13:28.34\00:13:30.54 all of his investment, 00:13:30.57\00:13:31.64 and they'd start seeing the people 00:13:31.67\00:13:33.04 that he's influenced to be in heaven. 00:13:33.07\00:13:36.01 And that's his reward. 00:13:36.04\00:13:37.65 And his whole life was geared toward that time. 00:13:37.68\00:13:40.05 Right. 00:13:40.08\00:13:41.15 And ours can be, too. 00:13:41.18\00:13:42.22 Yeah. 00:13:42.25\00:13:43.25 Yeah, okay the next one from Travis is about... 00:13:43.28\00:13:47.29 Well, let's just watch it. Okay. 00:13:47.32\00:13:50.06 How can we be in heaven 00:13:50.09\00:13:54.73 if we do not engage in the work that God has given us to do? 00:13:54.73\00:13:58.17 We know the work that God has given us to do 00:13:58.20\00:14:00.94 but we don't do it. 00:14:00.97\00:14:03.00 Jesus, when He was on this earth, 00:14:03.04\00:14:05.87 He was a missionary, 00:14:05.91\00:14:07.24 He worked, 00:14:07.28\00:14:08.84 He spread the good news and salvation. 00:14:08.88\00:14:11.81 We may have to face challenges 00:14:11.85\00:14:14.55 but what are challenges when we think about eternity, 00:14:14.58\00:14:18.32 eternity of bliss, peace with God. 00:14:18.35\00:14:21.69 Why would we, as the people, 00:14:25.39\00:14:27.86 not move forward to share with others the good news, 00:14:27.86\00:14:33.03 those that would not otherwise have a chance to know? 00:14:33.07\00:14:36.74 We as the people we think that we know and that's enough. 00:14:36.77\00:14:40.68 But that is not what a Christian is. 00:14:40.71\00:14:43.78 Christianity is not just something we are, 00:14:43.81\00:14:47.85 it is something we do. 00:14:47.88\00:14:49.88 We must show what we believe by our actions. 00:14:49.92\00:14:54.46 We must move forward. 00:14:54.49\00:14:56.86 God has given us the work to do 00:14:56.89\00:14:59.03 and we must do it. 00:14:59.06\00:15:00.70 Pretty strong call from a young person, 00:15:04.53\00:15:05.97 don't you think? 00:15:06.00\00:15:07.04 Yeah. Yeah, that's awesome. 00:15:07.07\00:15:08.94 And this is the beautiful thing about missions is that 00:15:08.97\00:15:11.57 when the young people get involved, 00:15:11.61\00:15:12.97 they start catching the vision. 00:15:13.01\00:15:14.98 They're the ones with the energy. 00:15:15.01\00:15:16.38 Right. 00:15:16.41\00:15:17.65 So here we're seeing a young man 00:15:17.68\00:15:18.95 who didn't want to go in the first place. 00:15:18.98\00:15:21.02 But now he's saying that God was calling him there. 00:15:21.05\00:15:24.22 Yes. 00:15:24.25\00:15:25.32 And now he's saying to everybody else, 00:15:25.35\00:15:27.06 we've got to do this, 00:15:27.09\00:15:28.52 it's our duty but it's also a place of joy. 00:15:28.56\00:15:31.89 Yeah. 00:15:31.93\00:15:32.89 So then Jonathan asked him a difficult question. 00:15:32.93\00:15:35.56 Okay. 00:15:35.60\00:15:37.37 How many missionaries are out here 00:15:37.40\00:15:39.10 in these mountains? 00:15:39.13\00:15:40.24 At the present, 00:15:40.27\00:15:44.11 I don't know of any others. 00:15:44.14\00:15:45.57 And this is the sad truth. 00:15:48.64\00:15:50.98 A lot of people aren't aware of the fact 00:15:51.01\00:15:53.25 that there's hardly any missionaries out there. 00:15:53.28\00:15:54.98 We took a family to India once 00:15:55.02\00:15:56.99 and after being there for a week and a half, 00:15:57.02\00:15:58.92 the wife says, 00:15:58.95\00:16:00.06 "Where are all the missionaries. 00:16:00.09\00:16:01.62 I thought there's lots of missionaries out here." 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.83 Then we had to look at her and say, "There are none." 00:16:03.86\00:16:06.43 There really aren't. 00:16:06.46\00:16:07.93 And in the place that he's at, there are none. 00:16:07.96\00:16:12.07 There's nobody else. Yeah. 00:16:12.10\00:16:13.67 In the entire mountain range, 00:16:13.70\00:16:15.90 the whole western side of Thailand, 00:16:15.94\00:16:18.07 there's just a handful. 00:16:18.11\00:16:20.41 But there's thousands and thousands of villages, 00:16:20.44\00:16:23.98 places where the Gospel has never been shared. 00:16:24.01\00:16:27.18 And so why aren't there more? 00:16:27.22\00:16:29.02 I honestly don't know, I think that Satan has... 00:16:29.05\00:16:31.49 We just haven't gone. 00:16:31.52\00:16:32.65 Satan has stolen a march on us 00:16:32.69\00:16:34.32 and given us all kinds of excuses 00:16:34.36\00:16:36.22 and reasons why we shouldn't go. 00:16:36.26\00:16:38.06 And it's not just the jungle areas, 00:16:38.09\00:16:39.56 what about all the cities? 00:16:39.59\00:16:41.23 You know, there's like almost 50 cities in the world 00:16:41.26\00:16:43.90 of over a million or more 00:16:43.93\00:16:46.37 without a single Adventist congregation. 00:16:46.40\00:16:50.17 Huge amounts, huge work to do. 00:16:50.21\00:16:52.94 And the sad thing is that that is where the joy is. 00:16:52.97\00:16:55.64 Right. 00:16:55.68\00:16:56.71 I'm gonna start preaching, so we need to continue. 00:16:56.75\00:16:58.01 Yeah, we need to continue. 00:16:58.05\00:16:59.95 Okay, here's another clip. 00:17:00.05\00:17:01.15 Okay. 00:17:01.18\00:17:02.28 It's sad to me when I see that 00:17:02.32\00:17:04.82 there are not more missionaries in these mountains 00:17:04.85\00:17:08.52 to reach the villagers, 00:17:08.56\00:17:10.69 the people that don't know about God, 00:17:10.73\00:17:15.16 don't know about salvation. 00:17:15.20\00:17:17.97 What if you were the only one 00:17:18.00\00:17:21.80 to take the Gospel to a village, 00:17:21.84\00:17:24.47 would you go? 00:17:24.51\00:17:26.41 God is calling each one of us, will we go? 00:17:26.44\00:17:30.35 What are we willing to do for God? 00:17:34.05\00:17:36.28 What are we willing to give up for God 00:17:39.32\00:17:41.56 to share the good news? 00:17:41.59\00:17:43.06 Are we willing to give up our reputation, our lives, 00:17:43.09\00:17:46.23 our conveniences? 00:17:46.26\00:17:47.50 The hardships that we face in this life will be 00:17:47.50\00:17:50.00 more than repaid. 00:17:50.03\00:17:51.97 Are we willing to go, go anywhere? 00:17:52.00\00:17:56.04 He did not just say go to the easy spots, 00:17:56.07\00:18:00.88 he said go everywhere, share my Name everywhere, 00:18:00.91\00:18:06.58 the plan of salvation so that 00:18:06.61\00:18:08.22 everyone can have the choice to choose life 00:18:08.25\00:18:13.72 or will we sit back and think to ourselves. 00:18:13.76\00:18:17.99 I'm so glad that I learned. 00:18:18.03\00:18:21.96 Are we that selfish to take the Gospel only for ourselves 00:18:22.00\00:18:27.37 and not to share it with others? 00:18:27.40\00:18:30.17 Wow. 00:18:30.21\00:18:31.91 It really challenges you, doesn't it? 00:18:31.94\00:18:33.68 Yeah. 00:18:33.71\00:18:34.98 This one, they're riding along the road 00:18:35.01\00:18:37.98 and Jonathan asks him about the mountains. 00:18:38.01\00:18:40.95 Okay. 00:18:40.98\00:18:43.32 Someday I want to start a project 00:18:43.35\00:18:44.92 in those mountains. 00:18:44.95\00:18:46.29 Okay, now those mountains is 00:18:55.63\00:18:57.57 just an example of mountain ranges 00:18:57.60\00:18:59.83 where a lot of villages and people are living 00:18:59.87\00:19:02.87 and there's no missionaries, 00:19:02.90\00:19:04.41 there's no-one that's gone and taken the Gospel there. 00:19:04.44\00:19:07.94 That's what for me makes these missionaries so special. 00:19:07.98\00:19:11.05 There are so few. 00:19:11.08\00:19:12.35 There should be a lot more but those that are there, 00:19:12.38\00:19:15.58 you think that they would be really, 00:19:15.62\00:19:17.52 really well taken care of, 00:19:17.55\00:19:18.62 that they would be just like showered with, 00:19:18.65\00:19:21.29 with gifts, but they're not, 00:19:21.32\00:19:22.52 they're oftentimes made to feel completely alone 00:19:22.56\00:19:25.59 and somewhat abandoned by their people, 00:19:25.63\00:19:28.80 their friends back home. 00:19:28.83\00:19:29.86 But we as missionaries on the home front, 00:19:29.90\00:19:35.20 our duty is to support them in our prayers, 00:19:35.24\00:19:37.67 in our financial gifts, in our encouraging words, 00:19:37.71\00:19:41.18 all these different ways, sending resources, 00:19:41.21\00:19:44.85 all these different ways, even asking the question, 00:19:44.88\00:19:46.75 what do you need, what resources do you have. 00:19:46.78\00:19:49.45 I'm amazed at how little we know of the mission work 00:19:49.48\00:19:53.49 that's going on in the world 00:19:53.52\00:19:54.79 when that's our primary job in this life. 00:19:54.82\00:19:57.26 Yeah. 00:19:57.29\00:19:58.33 And most of what we know about these other countries 00:19:58.36\00:20:01.10 is almost nothing about those other countries. 00:20:01.13\00:20:03.67 I mean, before I went to Thailand, for example, 00:20:03.70\00:20:06.27 I don't know really... 00:20:06.30\00:20:07.80 I mean, I had seen a few pictures maybe, 00:20:07.84\00:20:10.21 I don't think I had ever heard 00:20:10.24\00:20:11.61 more than maybe a word in the language. 00:20:11.64\00:20:13.84 You weren't even sure where it was located, 00:20:13.88\00:20:15.81 which countries surrounded it. 00:20:15.84\00:20:16.91 Right, right, we don't know the geography, 00:20:16.95\00:20:19.01 we don't know the history, 00:20:19.05\00:20:19.98 we don't know anything about these countries. 00:20:20.02\00:20:21.82 People groups. 00:20:21.85\00:20:22.92 And people are living there 00:20:22.95\00:20:23.95 that have never heard the name of Jesus. 00:20:23.99\00:20:25.52 Yeah. 00:20:25.55\00:20:26.59 So this next clip, 00:20:26.62\00:20:28.22 Travis talks about obstacles and overcoming. 00:20:28.26\00:20:31.03 Okay. 00:20:31.06\00:20:32.16 There's always challenges along the way, 00:20:40.14\00:20:44.81 but you learn to overcome all those challenges 00:20:44.84\00:20:51.15 and go and do what God has told us to do. 00:20:51.18\00:20:55.32 There's nothing like going and telling a village 00:20:55.35\00:20:59.72 that's never heard about Jesus for the first time. 00:20:59.75\00:21:03.96 It may be difficult and it may be hard, 00:21:03.99\00:21:07.36 but the joys of bringing someone to Christ way outweigh 00:21:07.40\00:21:13.87 the long nights of toil, the hard days. 00:21:13.90\00:21:17.84 It is well worth it 00:21:17.87\00:21:18.91 because we know that God is by or side. 00:21:18.94\00:21:22.58 We know that God is by our side. 00:21:22.61\00:21:24.41 That's right. And that's well worth it. 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.31 Right, that's for sure. 00:21:26.35\00:21:27.55 And now he's going to talk about how to start. 00:21:27.58\00:21:30.59 Okay. 00:21:30.62\00:21:31.72 To someone that doesn't know 00:21:38.99\00:21:40.53 how to get started to engage in the work, 00:21:40.56\00:21:45.37 the first thing, don't be afraid, 00:21:45.40\00:21:47.94 don't be afraid to go anywhere. 00:21:47.97\00:21:51.54 Pray, ask God, and He will guide you. 00:21:51.57\00:21:55.54 You don't have to be in some remote jungle location. 00:21:55.58\00:22:01.55 You don't have to be in the middle of a big city. 00:22:01.58\00:22:04.19 But God has called each one of us to go, wherever, 00:22:04.22\00:22:08.29 and He has promised to take care of us 00:22:08.32\00:22:12.83 so we do not need to be afraid of what 00:22:12.86\00:22:16.46 He has already told us to do. 00:22:16.50\00:22:19.10 He has told us and promised that He will take care of us. 00:22:19.13\00:22:22.80 Awesome. 00:22:22.84\00:22:23.94 Really amazing promises. 00:22:23.97\00:22:25.04 Right. 00:22:25.07\00:22:26.07 God will take care of us as we go. 00:22:26.11\00:22:27.81 Yes. 00:22:27.84\00:22:28.91 Now we want to move to today. Yeah. 00:22:28.94\00:22:31.55 So recently, Jonathan was there again 00:22:31.58\00:22:34.32 and took these pictures. 00:22:34.35\00:22:35.75 These are his teachers, local Karen teachers, 00:22:35.78\00:22:38.49 they know the language, 00:22:38.52\00:22:39.55 he knows the language, too. Okay. 00:22:39.59\00:22:41.26 And these teachers, some of them, 00:22:41.29\00:22:42.56 came from his brother and parents' school. 00:22:42.59\00:22:45.93 So that's a neat way that mission work continues going. 00:22:45.96\00:22:49.93 They were trained at the other school 00:22:49.96\00:22:51.90 and now they're teaching at this school. 00:22:51.93\00:22:53.44 That's correct. 00:22:53.47\00:22:54.64 Now these are the kids also with Travis and the teachers. 00:22:54.67\00:22:57.87 So these are the group of kids that he's teaching about Christ 00:22:57.91\00:23:01.78 and about not just Christ, but, well, anyway, 00:23:01.81\00:23:04.25 he'll tell more about how he teaches 00:23:04.28\00:23:06.61 and his philosophy of teaching in the next video. 00:23:06.65\00:23:09.05 But this picture, they're growing their own rice. 00:23:09.08\00:23:13.05 It's a beautiful location. 00:23:13.09\00:23:14.26 Yeah, it's beautiful. Yeah. 00:23:14.29\00:23:15.99 Okay, this is a video 00:23:16.02\00:23:17.46 that Jonathan did while he was there. 00:23:17.49\00:23:19.29 In 2013, we had six teachers. 00:23:23.26\00:23:28.90 They didn't have the vision or true education like we do. 00:23:28.94\00:23:33.34 And so, early in 2015, 00:23:33.38\00:23:38.78 those six teachers, they all resigned. 00:23:38.81\00:23:43.82 And that's when the students from my brother's school, 00:23:43.85\00:23:49.79 three of them, came down 00:23:49.82\00:23:51.29 and have been working here at the school. 00:23:51.33\00:23:56.10 It has been a real blessing. 00:23:56.13\00:23:59.87 This year, there's been a lot of growth in the school 00:23:59.90\00:24:04.14 as far as dorm students, a lot more people have heard 00:24:04.17\00:24:07.38 about the school and what's happening here. 00:24:07.41\00:24:09.34 We have a total of 15 dorm students, 00:24:09.38\00:24:11.98 and in the school, we have 45 students in all. 00:24:12.01\00:24:16.82 This year with 21 people, we eat at the dorm every meal. 00:24:16.85\00:24:22.96 And it became very obvious that 00:24:22.99\00:24:24.76 we needed to grow our own food 00:24:24.79\00:24:26.33 because the location of the school is kind of remote. 00:24:26.36\00:24:29.63 And so hauling in food is not like the easiest thing to do, 00:24:29.66\00:24:34.40 so the way it works around here, 00:24:34.44\00:24:36.77 I told the student is that we work for what we eat, 00:24:36.81\00:24:42.34 so we work together because we eat together. 00:24:42.38\00:24:46.21 We basically have five major subjects Bible, 00:24:51.15\00:24:56.16 English, Karen, Burmese, and math. 00:24:56.19\00:25:02.90 Those are our five main subjects. 00:25:02.93\00:25:05.37 Then we of course have science, history, and geography. 00:25:05.40\00:25:08.87 We have five periods in the morning of studying. 00:25:08.90\00:25:11.04 And in the afternoon, we work in the rice fields, 00:25:11.07\00:25:14.88 in the peanut fields around the place, 00:25:14.91\00:25:17.88 keep things up and keep food on the table. 00:25:17.91\00:25:21.12 Our ultimate goal in teaching the students is 00:25:23.72\00:25:26.99 that they will catch the vision 00:25:27.02\00:25:29.22 to move forward and fulfill the work 00:25:29.26\00:25:32.69 that God has given us to do as people, as a church, 00:25:32.73\00:25:36.20 and that I see as the purpose of true education, 00:25:36.23\00:25:39.57 to teach young people to love God 00:25:39.60\00:25:42.44 and not only through their academics 00:25:42.47\00:25:45.51 but through manual labor, recreation, 00:25:45.54\00:25:50.28 to teach them to love and follow God. 00:25:50.31\00:25:53.85 And that it's not always easy, but in the end, 00:25:53.88\00:25:56.79 it will be the most fulfilling thing that we've done. 00:25:56.82\00:25:58.92 We try to grow our own rice, as you can see, 00:26:02.79\00:26:05.86 here in the rice field. 00:26:05.89\00:26:07.13 But monthly running expense is usually 00:26:07.20\00:26:10.23 around $1,500, 00:26:10.27\00:26:14.47 give and take, 00:26:14.50\00:26:15.80 depends on what happens that month. 00:26:15.84\00:26:17.91 But that's about what it costs to keep the school running. 00:26:17.94\00:26:22.54 Being here at the school, playing with the kids, 00:26:25.55\00:26:28.12 working with the kids, teaching them every day, 00:26:28.15\00:26:32.49 and in the evenings, studying, playing, 00:26:32.52\00:26:37.13 I don't think there's anything else I'd rather do. 00:26:37.16\00:26:39.63 Pretty amazing. 00:26:48.37\00:26:49.47 "I don't think there's anything I'd rather do," he said. 00:26:49.50\00:26:51.97 That shows that he's having some blessing, 00:26:52.01\00:26:54.61 some reward here. 00:26:54.64\00:26:55.68 Yeah. 00:26:55.71\00:26:56.81 He's not just waiting for eternity 00:26:56.85\00:26:57.85 but not that it's easy. 00:26:57.88\00:26:59.35 Yeah. 00:26:59.38\00:27:00.65 So he's also starting to see the fruit of some of his labor, 00:27:00.68\00:27:03.39 all the difficulties he went through, 00:27:03.42\00:27:05.09 now he's starting to see the joy in the kids' faces. 00:27:05.12\00:27:08.19 Forty-five students, amazing. 00:27:08.22\00:27:10.93 Yeah and only $1,500 a month. 00:27:10.96\00:27:13.23 Try to do that here in America for 1,500 a month. 00:27:13.26\00:27:16.26 No, not gonna happen, not gonna happen. 00:27:16.30\00:27:19.17 Well, it has been a good show, honey. 00:27:19.20\00:27:21.17 But we have to close now. Okay. 00:27:21.20\00:27:23.30 And I want to invite our viewers to ask the Lord 00:27:23.34\00:27:26.27 where you should be in His vineyard, 00:27:26.31\00:27:28.24 maybe it's not Thailand. 00:27:28.28\00:27:29.91 You know, not everyone is called to go, 00:27:29.94\00:27:31.61 we're told that by Mrs. White. 00:27:31.65\00:27:32.95 But I think a lot more of us are called to go 00:27:32.98\00:27:35.35 than are actually going. 00:27:35.38\00:27:37.09 But ask the Lord where you should be, 00:27:37.12\00:27:39.15 what the most effective place is that you can be 00:27:39.19\00:27:41.92 to further His kingdom so that Jesus can come soon 00:27:41.96\00:27:45.09 and all the suffering 00:27:45.13\00:27:46.29 and all the sorrow of this world can end 00:27:46.33\00:27:48.43 and we can see our Savior dear. 00:27:48.46\00:27:51.60 You can send your tax deductible love gift 00:27:51.63\00:27:54.07 to Jesus for Asia, PO Box 1221, 00:27:54.10\00:27:57.27 Collegedale, Tennessee 37315. 00:27:57.31\00:28:00.51 Call us at (423) 413-7321. 00:28:00.54\00:28:04.35 Or check out our website at Jesus4asia.org. 00:28:04.38\00:28:07.72 Thank you for joining us for Jesus for Asia now. 00:28:07.75\00:28:10.39 May God richly bless you as we all work together 00:28:10.42\00:28:13.66 to prepare the world for His soon coming. 00:28:13.69\00:28:16.02
