Do you know what this is? 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 This is an earthenware jug. 00:00:02.96\00:00:04.38 And this is an earthenware jar. 00:00:04.41\00:00:06.50 And in Bible times these are the kind of containers 00:00:06.53\00:00:08.90 that they used to put their food in. 00:00:08.93\00:00:10.47 Now those days they couldn't just march down to 00:00:10.50\00:00:13.48 the grocery store and buy flour could they? 00:00:13.51\00:00:15.45 Instead they had to grow it, 00:00:15.48\00:00:17.37 but you can't grow flour can you? 00:00:17.40\00:00:19.45 You have to grow wheat and so they would get it 00:00:19.48\00:00:24.23 growing in the fields and it would turn green. 00:00:24.26\00:00:26.18 Then would come fall and it would 00:00:26.21\00:00:27.70 turn a nice golden yellow. 00:00:27.73\00:00:28.89 They would want with their big knives and harvested it. 00:00:28.92\00:00:31.67 Then they would bring it inside and hang it up to dry. 00:00:31.70\00:00:35.28 This part is where all the little kernels of wheat are. 00:00:35.31\00:00:38.86 Then after it was all dry then they could bring it 00:00:38.89\00:00:42.57 into their house, or sometimes they did outside, 00:00:42.60\00:00:45.56 very often in fact. 00:00:45.59\00:00:46.85 They had to get the little tiny 00:00:46.88\00:00:48.96 grains of wheat out of the husk. 00:00:48.99\00:00:51.57 You know considering how big this whole stock is, 00:00:51.60\00:00:55.19 the little grain of wheat is not very big at all. 00:00:55.22\00:00:58.88 Then when they wanted to make flour they could pour 00:00:58.91\00:01:01.80 some other kernels of wheat into a little bowl called 00:01:01.83\00:01:04.29 a mortar, and they would use the pistol to grind it. 00:01:04.32\00:01:07.47 I want to take the story of about some of these 00:01:07.50\00:01:09.95 things so don't go away okay. 00:01:09.98\00:01:11.90 Make sure you pay close attention because we are 00:02:09.77\00:02:11.96 going to have a mystery word today that you will 00:02:11.99\00:02:14.49 want to figure out by the end of this program. 00:02:14.52\00:02:16.14 Now I will be talking along and certain words 00:02:16.17\00:02:18.67 that I say will be called Key words. 00:02:18.70\00:02:21.05 When a key word comes up it will show right on 00:02:21.08\00:02:24.54 this side of the screen at the bottom. 00:02:24.57\00:02:26.08 One of the letters in it will be bigger 00:02:26.11\00:02:27.89 and a bright color. 00:02:27.92\00:02:29.93 Then that letter from the key word will come over 00:02:29.96\00:02:33.37 into the right slot of the mystery word. 00:02:33.40\00:02:37.24 Then you will have to figure out as those spaces 00:02:37.27\00:02:39.65 get filled up what the mystery word is. 00:02:39.68\00:02:42.10 Are you ready for our story? 00:02:42.13\00:02:43.61 Prophet Elisha lived in Israel and there was 00:02:43.64\00:02:46.82 a terrible famine happening. 00:02:46.85\00:02:48.84 He was so hungry and he was getting hungrier and 00:02:48.87\00:02:53.29 hungrier and God said to him go to the village of 00:02:53.32\00:02:57.05 Zarephath and there will be a widow there 00:02:57.08\00:02:59.44 who I have commanded to give you food to eat. 00:02:59.47\00:03:02.19 So he went there and sure enough outside the gate 00:03:02.22\00:03:06.42 the widow and her little boy were collecting 00:03:06.45\00:03:08.71 sticks to build a fire. 00:03:08.74\00:03:10.54 He walked up to her and he said, " would you please 00:03:10.57\00:03:13.73 give me a drink of water and a loaf of bread?" 00:03:13.76\00:03:16.57 She looked at him and she said, "Sir I can't do that, 00:03:16.60\00:03:19.66 why I only have enough flour and enough oil to make 00:03:19.69\00:03:22.78 a little loaf of bread for my boy and I and after 00:03:22.81\00:03:25.51 we eat it we'll just die. " 00:03:25.54\00:03:27.40 Well then prophet Elisha said to her, "you know God 00:03:27.43\00:03:32.11 has promised that if you will make a loaf of bread 00:03:32.14\00:03:34.97 for me that the jar of flour will not be used up and 00:03:35.00\00:03:39.35 the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the 00:03:39.38\00:03:43.22 Lord gives rain on the land. " 00:03:43.25\00:03:45.16 And that promise is in 1 Kings Chapter seventeen. 00:03:45.19\00:03:48.52 She looked at him and she thought and then she decided 00:03:48.55\00:03:53.03 to trust God and share what she had. 00:03:53.06\00:03:55.81 So she went in the house and her little boy followed. 00:03:55.84\00:03:58.01 They looked in the flour pot and sure enough there 00:03:58.04\00:04:02.49 wasn't much flour there. 00:04:02.52\00:04:03.99 So she started to scrape it out and get flour to make it 00:04:04.02\00:04:08.33 and her little boy was he just watching. 00:04:08.36\00:04:12.07 I'm sure he was so curious as she had to kind of 00:04:12.10\00:04:15.90 shake it to get just the last little bit out. 00:04:15.93\00:04:19.86 Then she made a little dent in it 00:04:19.89\00:04:22.82 and got her jug of oil. 00:04:22.85\00:04:25.47 She had to pour as it was just starting to get the 00:04:25.50\00:04:30.82 very last drop, there wasn't just any more left. 00:04:30.85\00:04:35.84 She kept mixing, and have you smelled when someone 00:04:35.87\00:04:40.44 is baking bread, the smell of the flour 00:04:40.47\00:04:43.67 and everything going together? 00:04:43.70\00:04:45.08 It smells so good and that's just how the little boy was 00:04:45.11\00:04:51.36 thinking and so was the mom. 00:04:51.39\00:04:53.33 It just smelled so good and they wanted to have some 00:04:53.36\00:04:56.83 of that bread so bad, and yet they knew that 00:04:56.86\00:05:00.92 this loaf wasn't for them. 00:05:00.95\00:05:02.48 She kept kneading it together and she shaped it 00:05:02.51\00:05:06.68 into the nicest little loaf and she put it over 00:05:06.71\00:05:09.75 on her little fire. 00:05:09.78\00:05:11.72 Of course I don't have a real fire there but 00:05:11.75\00:05:16.14 that is how she baked it on her little fire. 00:05:16.17\00:05:18.55 And oh it smelled so good a she was baking it. 00:05:18.58\00:05:21.90 When the little boy smelt the good smell I think 00:05:21.93\00:05:25.41 he probably thought to himself, 00:05:25.44\00:05:26.78 I wonder if there's more flour in the barrel? 00:05:26.81\00:05:29.47 And so he went over and looked, and sure enough 00:05:29.50\00:05:32.91 there was more flour. 00:05:32.94\00:05:35.45 Then he thought to himself, 00:05:35.48\00:05:37.67 I wonder if there is more oil? 00:05:37.70\00:05:39.35 And he looked and there was more oil, so she got 00:05:39.38\00:05:42.96 the jug of flour out again and scooped lots of flour. 00:05:42.99\00:05:48.51 And all was going to be so good to have a loaf 00:05:48.54\00:05:53.01 of bread for them too. 00:05:53.04\00:05:54.49 And there was plenty of oil to make it, 00:05:56.62\00:06:00.49 and she started to mix it up, loaf for them. 00:06:00.52\00:06:03.90 In fact the Bible says, that the "jar of flour and the jug of oil 00:06:03.93\00:06:09.02 did not run dry in keeping with the word of the 00:06:09.05\00:06:12.27 Lord spoken by Elisha. " 00:06:12.30\00:06:14.46 I think I shall wash my hands and then let's go 00:06:14.49\00:06:16.87 to the Wonder Room okay? 00:06:16.90\00:06:18.18 You know it's good to find out what 00:06:26.29\00:06:27.92 things mean, isn't it? 00:06:27.95\00:06:29.42 Let's look up thoughtful. 00:06:29.45\00:06:30.96 We can look it up in the dictionary or on the computer. 00:06:30.99\00:06:33.95 Let's use the computer. 00:06:33.98\00:06:35.27 Now you need to know how to spell to do this, don't you? 00:06:35.30\00:06:37.24 Help me spell it okay? 00:06:37.27\00:06:38.63 T- h-o-u-g-h-t, that's thought, this is thoughtful 00:06:38.66\00:06:45.84 so we have to add f-u-I. 00:06:45.87\00:06:48.34 Thoughtful, showing concern for others. 00:06:48.37\00:06:52.52 You know God has made it so that animals are thoughtful 00:06:52.55\00:06:55.67 also, shall we go see some? 00:06:55.70\00:06:57.64 Come on! 00:06:57.67\00:06:58.67 Do you like my elephants? 00:07:01.32\00:07:03.38 I like elephants, I love their long trunks. 00:07:03.41\00:07:06.17 I think one of the reasons that God gave elephants 00:07:06.20\00:07:09.13 trunks is because they use them to help each other 00:07:09.16\00:07:12.33 when one of them is hurt. 00:07:12.36\00:07:13.59 If one of them is injured they use their trunk to lift 00:07:13.62\00:07:16.45 them up and help take them where they need to go. 00:07:16.48\00:07:18.79 You know I read a story once about some elephants 00:07:18.82\00:07:21.83 who were very sick. 00:07:21.86\00:07:23.48 They had parasites inside of them that were eating 00:07:23.51\00:07:26.14 nutrients and so they weren't getting any nourishment. 00:07:26.17\00:07:29.07 They were getting thinner and thinner, 00:07:29.10\00:07:30.79 this whole herd of elephants. 00:07:30.82\00:07:32.02 So one of the healthy females realized the problem 00:07:32.05\00:07:34.96 and she led all the other elephants over 00:07:34.99\00:07:38.27 to the edge of a cliff. 00:07:38.30\00:07:39.57 There was limestone rocks on the cliff and she had 00:07:39.60\00:07:42.65 them hack out big pieces of the lime in the stone 00:07:42.68\00:07:45.20 rocks and then they told them to mix it with gravel. 00:07:45.23\00:07:48.96 Using their trunks they feed each other this mixture 00:07:48.99\00:07:53.65 of limestone rock and gravel. 00:07:53.68\00:07:55.85 They just feed pounds and pounds of it to each other. 00:07:55.88\00:07:59.45 Then within 24 hours they were healthy and 00:07:59.48\00:08:03.61 they were getting strong again. 00:08:03.64\00:08:05.85 I think that is so incredible. 00:08:05.88\00:08:07.38 You know when a baby elephant calf is born 00:08:07.41\00:08:09.99 there is no doctor or hospital. 00:08:10.02\00:08:12.43 So the different elephant mothers come by and they help. 00:08:12.46\00:08:15.99 When one mother has a calf the other one takes care 00:08:16.02\00:08:19.54 of the newborn calf until the mother is 00:08:19.57\00:08:21.37 healthy enough to do it herself. 00:08:21.40\00:08:23.17 Another animal that is called a calf, 00:08:23.20\00:08:25.74 when it is a baby, is a giraffe. 00:08:25.77\00:08:27.77 I like giraffes, don't you? 00:08:27.80\00:08:29.43 Do you know that giraffes have day care centers? 00:08:29.46\00:08:32.30 They do, just a few of the mothers will gather 00:08:32.33\00:08:35.49 together all the babies and the other mothers 00:08:35.52\00:08:38.18 will go off and eat and relax while just a few 00:08:38.21\00:08:41.80 are taking care of the babies. 00:08:41.83\00:08:43.34 Once those ones had eaten then they come back 00:08:43.37\00:08:45.99 and they take care of the babies and the other 00:08:46.02\00:08:48.39 ones go off and take a break. 00:08:48.42\00:08:49.97 So they all help each other to get a break 00:08:50.00\00:08:51.69 and get some rest. 00:08:51.72\00:08:52.80 I think that is neat, they have to be so careful when 00:08:52.83\00:08:55.88 they are the ones running the day care center because 00:08:55.91\00:08:57.99 there are very fierce enemies that would just love to 00:08:58.02\00:09:00.76 eat at tasty giraffe for dinner. 00:09:00.79\00:09:02.93 There are leopards and hyenas and lions around that 00:09:02.96\00:09:06.14 would make a quick meal out of a giraffe. 00:09:06.17\00:09:09.74 But even the Lions, who are fierce enemies of the 00:09:09.77\00:09:12.67 giraffe within their own group, or pride 00:09:12.70\00:09:15.94 is what a lion group is called. 00:09:15.97\00:09:17.70 They are very gentle and loving of one another. 00:09:17.73\00:09:20.94 The lion mothers are so gentle with their babies. 00:09:20.97\00:09:24.48 They just take good care of them. 00:09:24.51\00:09:26.84 Even the lion adults spend a lot of time licking each 00:09:26.87\00:09:31.31 other and just being kind and gentle with one another. 00:09:31.34\00:09:34.87 In fact, if one lion is hurt or injured the other lions 00:09:34.90\00:09:40.26 will go off and get food and bring it back and feed it 00:09:40.29\00:09:45.80 to the one who has been hurt. 00:09:45.83\00:09:47.18 I think it is so incredible that God could give 00:09:47.21\00:09:50.87 animals instinct like that. 00:09:50.90\00:09:53.21 To take care of one another and be thoughtful. 00:09:53.24\00:09:56.21 I think I want to too! 00:09:56.24\00:09:58.93 If elephants can help their hurt friends up 00:09:58.96\00:10:05.93 if the Lions give each other food 00:10:05.96\00:10:10.05 if young giraffes are cared for all day long 00:10:10.08\00:10:14.21 then I can be more thoughtful too! 00:10:14.24\00:10:18.45 I can be more thoughtful I can be more thoughtful 00:10:18.48\00:10:22.77 just like the animals do. 00:10:22.80\00:10:26.56 If creatures of the wild can show they care 00:10:26.59\00:10:30.91 then I can be more thoughtful too! 00:10:30.94\00:10:35.32 Hey kids if you love all the fun things you can do 00:10:38.96\00:10:41.79 with Janice and her friends you'll flip over this. 00:10:41.82\00:10:44.23 It's Janice's activity book loaded with fun this book 00:10:44.26\00:10:48.55 teaches Scripture through mazes, puzzles, dot to dot 00:10:48.58\00:10:51.75 games, coloring and more. 00:10:51.78\00:10:53.72 And the best part is, it's free! 00:10:53.75\00:10:56.26 Let's take a look inside. 00:10:56.29\00:10:58.60 The Scripture on this page says, "Jesus Christ is 00:10:58.63\00:11:01.94 the same yesterday, today and forever. Okay! 00:14:00.32\00:14:02.43 Right now? Okay lets go. 00:14:02.46\00:14:04.44 Now what you just did was to breathe in oxygen through 00:14:04.47\00:14:08.09 the lungs which I call my station. 00:14:08.12\00:14:09.87 Our heart which is like the engine takes that oxygen up 00:14:09.90\00:14:13.42 into the tissue. 00:14:13.45\00:14:14.72 When it gets out here we picked up a carbon. 00:14:14.75\00:14:17.64 It's called carbon dioxide, and it comes back around, 00:14:17.67\00:14:20.80 how are you doing? 00:14:20.83\00:14:21.85 Okay wait a minute I'm almost there, wait, 00:14:21.88\00:14:24.23 wait almost there, and it comes back to the 00:14:24.26\00:14:26.06 station and now you can breathe. 00:14:26.09\00:14:29.34 That was hard, wasn't it? 00:14:29.37\00:14:31.03 Okay now what you just breathed out was carbon dioxide. 00:14:31.06\00:14:35.42 CO2, Oh is this CO2 like a name for carbon dioxide? 00:14:35.45\00:14:41.34 You are exactly right. 00:14:41.37\00:14:43.02 And this carbon dioxide goes over to our plants, and with 00:14:43.05\00:14:46.80 the sunlight and carbon dioxide it makes oxygen. 00:14:46.83\00:14:50.26 That oxygen comes right back over to us, we breathe it 00:14:50.29\00:14:54.10 into our lungs and breathe out the carbon dioxide and 00:14:54.13\00:14:57.74 around the circle goes. 00:14:57.77\00:14:59.63 So we need the plants to make oxygen, and the plants 00:14:59.66\00:15:03.44 need us to make carbon dioxide. 00:15:03.47\00:15:05.39 That is exactly correct! 00:15:05.42\00:15:06.83 What a lot of thought God must've put into making this 00:15:06.86\00:15:11.27 world work like that. 00:15:11.30\00:15:12.86 I think it's marvelous, without us making carbon dioxide 00:15:12.89\00:15:16.87 the plants would not grow. 00:15:16.90\00:15:17.94 Without the plants making oxygen, we couldn't live. 00:15:17.97\00:15:21.03 That's wonderful you know why really think you're right. 00:15:21.06\00:15:23.31 Fresh air and sunshine are important because it must 00:15:23.34\00:15:27.19 keep us healthy, what I feel good that I love doing nice 00:15:27.22\00:15:31.09 things for other people. 00:15:31.12\00:15:32.57 I agree! 00:15:32.60\00:15:33.63 Fresh air and sunshine, fresh air and sunshine. 00:15:36.78\00:15:42.39 Keep you healthy along your way 00:15:42.42\00:15:47.66 fresh air and sunshine, fresh air and sunshine 00:15:47.69\00:15:53.42 brighten your day to day 00:15:53.45\00:15:58.27 just like a breath of fresh air, 00:15:58.30\00:16:01.53 just like a ray of sunshine 00:16:01.56\00:16:04.37 you can chase those clouds away. 00:16:04.40\00:16:09.34 Fresh air and sunshine, fresh air and sunshine. 00:16:09.37\00:16:15.28 Brighten your day today 00:16:15.31\00:16:20.09 brighten your world today. 00:16:20.12\00:16:26.15 Did you know that one of the best ways to become a 00:16:32.74\00:16:36.00 good friend of Jesus is by spending personal time 00:16:36.03\00:16:38.48 with Him every day? 00:16:38.51\00:16:39.74 Well adults do that by praying and by reading 00:16:39.77\00:16:42.74 their Bibles, but if you can't read it's 00:16:42.77\00:16:45.64 kind of hard isn't it? 00:16:45.67\00:16:46.77 Or maybe you were just like listening to tapes. 00:16:46.80\00:16:49.63 Well here's a fun way to have your very own devotions 00:16:49.66\00:16:52.69 every morning when you get up. 00:16:52.72\00:16:54.12 Janice has made these morning time devotions for her 00:16:54.15\00:16:57.27 kids and for you. 00:16:57.30\00:16:58.87 Complete with songs, prayers and stories. 00:16:58.90\00:17:01.31 For more information have your parents write to: 00:17:01.34\00:17:04.77 Can you see air? 00:17:33.69\00:17:35.26 You can't can you? 00:17:35.29\00:17:37.02 But you can feel it, take a big deep breath. 00:17:37.05\00:17:40.28 Couldn't you feel it going into your mouth? 00:17:40.31\00:17:43.38 I could, you can't see it but even though you can't see 00:17:43.41\00:17:47.24 it, it's nearly everywhere. 00:17:47.27\00:17:49.03 Here is an experiment you can try at home 00:17:49.06\00:17:51.52 in order to prove that. 00:17:51.55\00:17:52.93 You need a bowl, and you need to put water in your bowl. 00:17:52.96\00:17:55.89 Then you need a cup, and if you want you can do what 00:17:55.92\00:17:59.18 I've done, you can put a piece around the 00:17:59.21\00:18:01.08 inside of the cup. 00:18:01.11\00:18:02.49 Now let's try something to see if there's air 00:18:02.52\00:18:05.61 inside this cup, can you see the air? 00:18:05.64\00:18:07.57 You can't can you? 00:18:07.60\00:18:09.71 When you put it into the water pushed it straight down. 00:18:09.74\00:18:14.60 Right down to the bottom, now let's pull it up and see 00:18:14.63\00:18:19.97 if there's water in it. 00:18:20.00\00:18:21.27 Pull it straight up again, did the paper get wet? 00:18:21.30\00:18:25.90 No, because the air inside the cup made it so that the 00:18:25.93\00:18:31.73 water couldn't go in there, there was no room for it. 00:18:31.76\00:18:33.42 Now let's do it again, push it straight down. 00:18:33.45\00:18:36.62 Now tilt the cup like this, and what is happening? 00:18:36.65\00:18:41.61 Bubbles, the air from the inside of the cup is 00:18:41.64\00:18:45.53 bubbling out and letting water go in. 00:18:45.56\00:18:49.30 So now look at the paper, it is all wet. 00:18:49.33\00:18:53.47 You know air kind of reminds me of love, 00:18:53.50\00:18:56.26 you can't see can you? 00:18:56.29\00:18:57.71 And just like love you, can't see love either. 00:18:57.74\00:19:00.88 But when God puts love inside of your heart, it makes 00:19:00.91\00:19:04.91 you do things for other people that you can see. 00:19:04.94\00:19:07.89 I think that is neat. 00:19:07.92\00:19:09.19 Thoughtfulness and selfishness they are hard to learn. 00:19:15.94\00:19:20.21 But God has promised He will help me every day. 00:19:20.24\00:19:25.37 He will help me see a way a make your work so light, 00:19:25.40\00:19:30.04 he'll help me find a way to make your day so bright. 00:19:30.07\00:19:35.71 With people around me I can share, 00:19:35.74\00:19:40.97 for people around me I can care. 00:19:41.00\00:19:46.07 The people around me need my love, 00:19:46.10\00:19:51.22 the people around me need to know about God above. 00:19:51.25\00:20:01.58 The Bible says that love is the most powerful thing 00:20:02.81\00:20:05.59 there is, I wonder how that can be 00:20:05.62\00:20:07.67 when we can't see love? 00:20:07.70\00:20:08.99 Well let's think about it, remember we talked before 00:20:09.02\00:20:11.51 about how air and love are about the same. 00:20:11.54\00:20:13.52 You can't see air either, but it is strong too! 00:20:13.55\00:20:16.82 Here's an experiment you can try as long as you have an 00:20:16.85\00:20:19.92 adult or parent to help you and will show that to you. 00:20:19.95\00:20:22.82 Take like a pop bottle, a good strong plastic bottle. 00:20:22.85\00:20:25.98 Take the lid and make all little hole in the top to 00:20:26.01\00:20:29.56 stick a straw through. 00:20:29.59\00:20:30.86 Then take modeling clay and sealed up on each side, 00:20:30.89\00:20:34.74 because you want it to be airtight. 00:20:34.77\00:20:36.33 Then in your bottle, put some ice cubes in the bottom 00:20:36.36\00:20:40.06 of the bottle and it's fun to put in some food coloring 00:20:40.09\00:20:42.84 to have it make a color. 00:20:42.87\00:20:44.41 Then put cold water in, I'll will put just 00:20:44.44\00:20:47.26 a little bit more. 00:20:47.29\00:20:48.26 And you want to fill the bottle may be about 00:20:48.27\00:20:50.79 1/3 full, and then you put the lid on. 00:20:50.82\00:20:54.63 Get the lid nice and straight that it will make a nice 00:20:54.66\00:20:59.80 tight seal. 00:20:59.83\00:21:02.39 This is the part where you will want to roll up your 00:21:02.42\00:21:05.84 sleeves and have on an apron, then lowered into a nice 00:21:05.87\00:21:10.15 hot pot of water. 00:21:10.18\00:21:12.09 Then see what happens. 00:21:12.12\00:21:15.06 Do you want to know why this is happening? 00:21:15.09\00:21:17.16 The air inside the bottle is being warmed by the 00:21:17.19\00:21:22.28 hot water, and when air gets warm it gets bigger. 00:21:22.31\00:21:26.52 Then when it gets bigger it pushes on the water 00:21:26.55\00:21:29.49 that was in the bottle and pushes the water up 00:21:29.52\00:21:32.56 and out of the straw. 00:21:32.59\00:21:34.33 That's kind of what God's love is like isn't it? 00:21:34.36\00:21:37.45 When He warms us with His love we just bubble out with 00:21:37.48\00:21:41.05 nice things we want to do for people. 00:21:41.08\00:21:43.07 Let's go have a story, Okay? 00:21:43.10\00:21:44.93 Are you ready for a story, Yeah! 00:21:58.93\00:22:01.37 You know this book when I was a little girl, 00:22:01.40\00:22:03.30 Secret Of The Cave was my favorite book. 00:22:03.33\00:22:06.58 I want to share this story with you now. 00:22:06.61\00:22:08.56 It was the talk of the village, everybody was 00:22:08.59\00:22:12.65 wondering who is in McCollum's cave last night. 00:22:12.68\00:22:16.47 Old Peter McDonnell had been going home very late. 00:22:16.50\00:22:19.98 He had an old gray beard, and walked with a cane, 00:22:20.01\00:22:22.90 and he was going home with his sheep. 00:22:22.93\00:22:25.63 As he was walking along in front of the Cave, 00:22:25.66\00:22:29.07 he had heard banging noises with hammers, 00:22:29.10\00:22:31.95 and nails, and boards. 00:22:31.98\00:22:33.21 Of course he didn't get afraid because Scottish shepherds 00:22:33.24\00:22:36.96 don't get afraid or anything. 00:22:36.99\00:22:38.18 But he did walk home just a little 00:22:38.21\00:22:40.45 bit faster that night. 00:22:40.48\00:22:41.80 They couldn't figure it out because all of them 00:22:41.83\00:22:44.27 had explored that cave so many times and they knew 00:22:44.30\00:22:47.52 that it had little alleyways, you know all different 00:22:47.55\00:22:51.79 ways you can go inside the cave. 00:22:51.82\00:22:54.11 They knew that nobody was inside the cave and so 00:22:54.14\00:22:57.10 everybody was talking about it. 00:22:57.13\00:22:59.01 Over at the store they were talking about it. 00:22:59.04\00:23:01.18 On the street corners they were talking about it. 00:23:01.21\00:23:03.09 One person would say I think it's spies and another 00:23:03.12\00:23:06.72 person would say on no its smugglers. 00:23:06.75\00:23:08.91 And someone else would say it couldn't be spies and 00:23:08.94\00:23:12.13 it couldn't be smugglers because what would spies 00:23:12.16\00:23:14.62 want to see in our village in Longview? 00:23:14.65\00:23:17.30 We are just a sleepy little village 00:23:17.33\00:23:18.79 there's is nothing to see. 00:23:18.82\00:23:19.93 And someone else would say and what would 00:23:19.96\00:23:23.01 smugglers want I mean why would they want 00:23:23.04\00:23:25.23 to be hiding things way out here? 00:23:25.26\00:23:27.09 This isn't it near any big city or anything. 00:23:27.12\00:23:29.22 So nobody could figure it out. 00:23:29.25\00:23:31.79 Finally some of the people just said we think Peter McDonnell is 00:23:31.82\00:23:36.61 hearing things, he is getting old and his hearing 00:23:36.64\00:23:38.81 is going funny that's what it is. 00:23:38.84\00:23:40.48 But there were two boys that were very interested in 00:23:40.51\00:23:44.82 the story and that was Oscar and Bruce McLaren. 00:23:44.85\00:23:49.15 They were the sons of the game keeper who lived just a little 00:23:49.18\00:23:52.20 bit out on the outskirts of the village. 00:23:52.23\00:23:54.53 They would run from this group and listen to those 00:23:54.56\00:23:57.27 details and then they go listen to these details 00:23:57.30\00:23:59.38 from another group because they were so curious 00:23:59.41\00:24:03.06 to find out who it could be. 00:24:03.09\00:24:04.96 Now, their mom and dad were away because their mother 00:24:04.99\00:24:08.64 had gotten very, very sick. 00:24:08.67\00:24:10.82 So their father had taken their mother to a hospital 00:24:10.85\00:24:14.32 way over in Glasco. 00:24:14.35\00:24:16.49 So they were home all alone, so this was 00:24:16.52\00:24:19.17 very exciting for them. 00:24:19.20\00:24:21.31 Well the next day some of the villagers decided 00:24:21.34\00:24:25.21 that they should really go out to the cave and 00:24:25.24\00:24:28.77 just look through the cave because then at least they would 00:24:28.80\00:24:32.02 be able to figure out whether Peter McDonnell was 00:24:32.05\00:24:34.32 really hearing things or not. 00:24:34.35\00:24:36.03 You can imagine when the villagers decided to go, 00:24:36.06\00:24:39.75 guess who wanted to go with them? 00:24:39.78\00:24:42.34 Oh Bruce and Oscar wanted to go so bad, but the 00:24:42.37\00:24:47.99 villagers told them they could not. 00:24:48.02\00:24:49.77 They said Bruce and Oscar we let you go, what if you 00:24:49.80\00:24:54.19 got shot your parents would be so upset when 00:24:54.22\00:24:57.34 they came back and found two dead boys. 00:24:57.37\00:24:59.34 We cannot let you go, but Bruce and Oscar begged to 00:24:59.37\00:25:03.36 be able to go so finally they decided to let them. 00:25:03.39\00:25:06.48 Well it was evening when they headed out toward the 00:25:06.51\00:25:09.26 cave, quite a big group of men plus the two boys. 00:25:09.29\00:25:12.50 They walked and they walked and finally they got there. 00:25:12.53\00:25:16.00 The tide was out so they could start climbing up 00:25:16.03\00:25:20.04 to the cave, and a whole bunch of the men said 00:25:20.07\00:25:22.58 well, we will wait down here at the entrance. 00:25:22.61\00:25:24.64 We won't go inside so only six men were 00:25:24.67\00:25:27.73 brave enough to go in. 00:25:27.76\00:25:28.93 And Oscar and Bruce wanted to go inside so bad and the 00:25:28.96\00:25:33.33 other men said no you need to stay down here with us. 00:25:33.36\00:25:35.25 But Oscar and Bruce just begged to go inside so finally 00:25:35.28\00:25:39.13 they let them go in. 00:25:39.16\00:25:40.13 They came up to the entrance of the cave and 00:25:40.14\00:25:43.63 it was all dark and black inside. 00:25:43.66\00:25:47.13 And woo, they would make a sound like that and the 00:25:47.16\00:25:50.35 voice echoed and everybody was kind of nervous and 00:25:50.38\00:25:53.78 their hearts were patting, patting, patting. 00:25:53.81\00:25:55.83 They flipped on their flashlights and in they went. 00:25:55.86\00:25:59.84 They started going down this alley and came out of 00:25:59.87\00:26:03.55 that one because it was nothing there. 00:26:03.58\00:26:05.13 So they would go down this alley and finally they 00:26:05.16\00:26:08.51 came to a place where there was some rocks falling 00:26:08.54\00:26:10.93 down and people started looking at that. 00:26:10.96\00:26:13.07 Oscar said old look up here there is marks on the 00:26:13.10\00:26:16.80 walls let's look up here. 00:26:16.83\00:26:18.20 But there was nothing there either so they all 00:26:18.23\00:26:21.36 came out and they went home. 00:26:21.39\00:26:22.60 The next day everybody said Peter McDonnell he's 00:26:22.63\00:26:26.05 just hearing things it's not really true. 00:26:26.08\00:26:28.43 But that very night there was a huge storm and a boat 00:26:28.46\00:26:35.06 just disappeared from the beach during the storm. 00:26:35.09\00:26:38.21 And nobody could figure it out because Scottish 00:26:38.24\00:26:42.64 fishermen always tie up their boats perfectly. 00:26:42.67\00:26:45.82 They don't leave their boats loose, 00:26:45.85\00:26:47.52 they tie them up really well. 00:26:47.55\00:26:49.07 So everybody thought someone had stolen the boat. 00:26:49.10\00:26:52.66 Well you can imagine their surprise when just a few 00:26:52.69\00:26:56.49 days later the boat appeared back on the beach, 00:26:56.52\00:27:00.51 it was tied up and it had a patch over a little 00:27:00.54\00:27:05.32 hole it had gotten somehow while it was gone. 00:27:05.35\00:27:07.69 You can imagine everybody in that village was 00:27:07.72\00:27:11.53 wondering and talking. 00:27:11.56\00:27:13.63 Next week we will find out more. 00:27:13.66\00:27:16.43 Do you remember our mystery word? 00:27:16.46\00:27:19.05 Did you catch it? 00:27:19.08\00:27:20.29 You're right it was sunshine. 00:27:20.32\00:27:22.79 Sunshine is kind of like thoughtfulness isn't it? 00:27:22.82\00:27:25.56 Because sunshine makes us happy and being thoughtful 00:27:25.59\00:27:28.47 makes people happy. 00:27:28.50\00:27:29.85 You know you have made me happy today and I would like 00:27:29.88\00:27:32.72 to see you again next time okay? 00:27:32.75\00:27:34.85 Bye-bye! 00:27:34.88\00:27:36.10
