There you are, do you like my lion? 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.20 Here I am, did you know that kitty cats and lions 00:00:04.23\00:00:08.87 are related? 00:00:08.90\00:00:09.93 It's hard to believe, isn't it, because kitties are so soft 00:00:09.96\00:00:14.15 and they purr so nice, and lions are so fierce looking. 00:00:14.18\00:00:18.79 I wouldn't want to have a lion sitting on my lap would you? 00:00:18.82\00:00:22.66 Lions are actually very beautiful aren't they? 00:00:22.69\00:00:25.71 With their big bushy manes maybe that's why they are 00:00:25.74\00:00:30.20 called king of the beasts, because their manes make them 00:00:30.23\00:00:33.04 look very kingly don't they. You know what in just a minute 00:00:33.07\00:00:37.17 I'm going to tell you a story about a man who had to tangle 00:00:37.20\00:00:41.55 with a very very powerful human king and also with a whole 00:00:41.58\00:00:46.83 den full of the kings of the beast. 00:00:46.86\00:00:47.83 You know the Bible is just filled with such interesting 00:01:49.26\00:01:52.54 exciting stories, and the story I want to tell you about now 00:01:52.57\00:01:56.13 is found in the chapter of Daniel, and it's about a man 00:01:56.16\00:01:59.31 named Daniel. You know Daniel had been taken as a prisoner 00:01:59.34\00:02:03.18 to a land called Babylon, and the king there wanted to treat 00:02:03.21\00:02:07.02 Daniel very well and so when it came time to eat, he served 00:02:07.05\00:02:11.40 the most fancy richest food that he had, and the food 00:02:11.43\00:02:16.46 looked very wonderful, but as Daniel looked at it, he knew 00:02:16.49\00:02:20.34 that it wasn't the best food for his body, and he knew that 00:02:20.37\00:02:24.41 God had said in order to be healthy and strong, 00:02:24.44\00:02:27.33 he shouldn't eat that way. And so he went to the other 00:02:27.36\00:02:31.19 prisoners, his other friends and he said, you know fellows 00:02:31.22\00:02:35.46 we shouldn't eat this food because it isn't food that 00:02:35.49\00:02:38.12 will make us strong and healthy and God says not to eat that way 00:02:38.15\00:02:41.69 and many of them just said ahh! 00:02:41.72\00:02:44.01 we don't want to tell the king we won't eat it, why if we 00:02:44.04\00:02:47.57 do that he would get angry at us, it doesn't matter, we'll 00:02:47.60\00:02:50.64 just eat a little bit of it. But finally three of the fellows 00:02:50.67\00:02:54.82 said to Daniel, we'll be brave and we'll go with you to talk. 00:02:54.85\00:02:58.55 So they went to the overseer who is in charge of them 00:02:58.58\00:03:01.96 and they said you know sir we really appreciate the king 00:03:01.99\00:03:06.08 giving us this wonderful food but we've learned that God says 00:03:06.11\00:03:10.90 that it isn't the best for us to eat this way because it won't 00:03:10.93\00:03:13.76 make us strong and healthy and we were wondering 00:03:13.79\00:03:17.22 if you could just serve us some simple food, 00:03:17.25\00:03:19.80 like whole grains and vegetables and fruits and water to drink 00:03:19.83\00:03:24.66 instead of the wine? 00:03:24.69\00:03:25.92 Well the man said, I can't do that, why the king might even 00:03:25.95\00:03:32.41 chop my head off if you start looking sick and unhealthy 00:03:32.44\00:03:36.06 no I can't do that, but Daniel's friends said please sir just 00:03:36.09\00:03:40.90 try us for ten days, so finally the overseer said ok 00:03:40.93\00:03:46.35 I'll try you for ten days but this better not 00:03:46.38\00:03:50.05 make a fool out of me, and so during those ten days 00:03:50.08\00:03:53.41 Daniel and his friends did their part too, they ate the 00:03:53.44\00:03:56.97 good food, they went out exercising, they got lots of 00:03:57.00\00:04:00.87 rest and they also prayed that God would especially bless 00:04:00.90\00:04:04.30 this little test. The Bible says in Daniel 1:15 00:04:04.33\00:04:09.04 It says that at the end of the ten days they looked healthier 00:04:09.07\00:04:13.36 and better nourished than any of the young men who ate 00:04:13.39\00:04:17.05 the royal food. 00:04:17.08\00:04:18.74 But you know the years went by and Daniel every day he kept 00:05:21.35\00:05:27.71 making good choices and he kept learning to do his work well 00:05:27.74\00:05:32.78 finally a new king came into power and he had heard 00:05:32.81\00:05:36.54 such good reports about Daniel, and as he watched Daniel work 00:05:36.57\00:05:40.94 he made Daniel to be put into a very important position. 00:05:41.94\00:05:48.53 In fact he was made a ruler over many of the other princes in the 00:05:48.56\00:05:53.26 kingdom. Well you can imagine that that made them jealous 00:05:53.29\00:05:57.39 and they didn't want Daniel to be in charge of them, 00:05:57.42\00:06:01.13 they had been princes before and now someone else was 00:06:01.16\00:06:04.18 in charge of them and so they started thinking what can we do 00:06:04.21\00:06:07.64 to get this guy out of power. But when they would watch him 00:06:07.67\00:06:11.97 he was always on time for work, he was always honest, 00:06:12.00\00:06:15.22 he always did his job clear through, right to the beginning 00:06:15.25\00:06:18.17 and he never shirked his responsibility, they couldn't 00:06:18.20\00:06:21.01 find anything wrong with him but finally they thought 00:06:21.04\00:06:25.25 of a way, they were going to trick the king and so they went 00:06:25.28\00:06:28.89 to the king and they flattered him, they said you know king 00:06:28.92\00:06:31.68 you are so important and so good you should make a rule 00:06:31.71\00:06:36.54 that everybody has to pray for you for 30 days and that if they 00:06:36.57\00:06:40.15 don't they will get thrown into the lion's den. 00:06:40.18\00:06:43.31 That made the king feel good so he got out his big fancy ring 00:06:43.34\00:06:47.39 and he put his stamp down on the rule and then the messengers 00:06:47.42\00:06:51.71 went out and started reading the rule in all the market 00:06:51.74\00:06:54.78 places and all the city corners of the streets, 00:06:54.81\00:06:57.05 and Daniel heard the rule. Right away and he knew 00:06:57.08\00:07:02.22 that that rule was meant to trick him, 00:07:02.25\00:07:05.30 he had a choice to make. 00:07:05.33\00:07:06.94 Do you think He wanted to be thrown into the lion's den? 00:07:07.29\00:07:09.73 I wouldn't, he didn't either. He thought about all the times 00:07:09.76\00:07:15.09 in the past that God had helped him, about the time when he had 00:07:15.12\00:07:19.14 made the good choice about the food and God had been with them 00:07:19.17\00:07:21.58 and then protected him, and he decided to do what God wanted 00:07:21.61\00:07:26.05 him to do. So the Bible says in Daniel it says that 00:07:26.08\00:07:31.16 three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed 00:07:31.19\00:07:35.94 giving thanks to his God, just as he has always done before. 00:07:35.97\00:07:40.91 It says that he did that in his upstairs room where the 00:07:40.94\00:07:44.54 window was open wide. So those guys saw it, and they 00:07:44.57\00:07:48.50 went running to the palace as fast as they could and they said 00:07:48.53\00:07:51.36 Oh king, someone has broken your rule, 00:07:51.39\00:07:53.14 and the king said "WHO?" And he said it was Daniel king, 00:07:53.17\00:07:57.38 and he just slumped into his chair, he liked Daniel, 00:07:57.41\00:08:03.08 he didn't want Daniel to have to be thrown into the 00:08:03.11\00:08:06.03 lion's den, in fact the Bible says when the king heard this 00:08:06.78\00:08:10.49 he was greatly distressed and he determined to rescue Daniel 00:08:10.52\00:08:15.22 and he made every effort until sundown to save him, 00:08:15.25\00:08:18.71 but do you know what, he couldn't think of any way 00:08:18.74\00:08:22.93 because he made the rule, he couldn't change the rule. 00:08:22.96\00:08:25.51 So Daniel got thrown into that den of roaring lions, 00:08:25.54\00:08:30.18 not just one lion, it was a whole big den of them. 00:08:30.21\00:08:34.07 The king didn't sleep that night he was so worried about 00:08:34.10\00:08:37.59 his friend Daniel, and the Bible says that as the first 00:08:37.62\00:08:42.18 light of dawn came the king got up and hurried to the 00:08:42.21\00:08:45.21 lion's den, and when he came near the den he called to Daniel 00:08:45.24\00:08:49.15 in a worried voice, and he said Daniel, servant of the 00:08:49.18\00:08:52.71 living God, has your God who you always serve been able to 00:08:52.74\00:08:56.92 rescue you from the lions? 00:08:56.95\00:08:58.58 and Daniel answered, Oh king live forever, my God sent His 00:08:58.61\00:09:07.58 angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions and they haven't 00:09:07.61\00:09:13.46 hurt me. 00:09:13.49\00:09:14.46 Hey kids! What's a favorite of yours here? 00:13:19.83\00:13:24.06 Oh! She likes this one here, these are both made out of 00:13:24.09\00:13:28.01 potatoes aren't they? They certainly are, 00:13:28.04\00:13:30.62 But this one here, you can bake it or you can cut it open 00:13:30.65\00:13:36.26 and do all sorts of neat things with it, I have to tell you 00:13:36.29\00:13:39.60 potatoes are really good food that God made, 00:13:39.63\00:13:41.73 but when you eat them like this they have a lot of fat 00:13:41.76\00:13:45.27 in them and that's not very good at all, 00:13:45.30\00:13:47.97 and also quite a bit of salt to. - Do you know what I am noticing 00:13:48.00\00:13:51.67 Dr. Neblet, seems like lots of times you choose foods 00:13:51.70\00:13:55.39 that look natural to me, like just the way God made them 00:13:55.42\00:13:59.37 in the first place. - That's right! When we eat 00:13:59.40\00:14:01.72 foods that are like this, the way that God made them, 00:14:01.75\00:14:04.14 we can hardly go wrong, 00:14:04.17\00:14:05.76 but when you sort of eat them like this, 00:14:05.79\00:14:09.48 that doesn't do as much good for us. 00:14:09.51\00:14:12.92 Well let's try one more over here, what do you think Kimberly 00:14:12.95\00:14:19.15 what's a favorite of yours, I've got two kinds of bread here 00:14:19.18\00:14:21.63 Ah! She's picking this kind of bread, you notice there's a 00:14:21.66\00:14:25.67 difference kid's with this bread one of them is kind of brown 00:14:25.70\00:14:29.12 and one is kind of white, well the difference is that this one 00:14:29.15\00:14:32.46 has a lot more grains inside of it, things that are good 00:14:32.49\00:14:36.36 for us to eat like oats and barley, it sure is, 00:14:36.39\00:14:40.10 and these things help us to grow real nice and strong, 00:14:40.13\00:14:43.15 there is hardly anything in this one, as a matter of fact 00:14:43.18\00:14:45.75 you can crumple it up into a little ball, there is hardly 00:14:45.78\00:14:49.07 anything in this one, not very good for us. 00:14:49.10\00:14:52.41 - But this one is packed with grains and minerals. 00:14:52.44\00:14:55.25 - This one is a lot better for us to eat. 00:14:55.28\00:14:57.54 - That would be a good choice. - You know what is really 00:14:57.57\00:15:00.17 special about all of these foods, if you eat foods 00:15:00.20\00:15:02.99 the way God made them you'll be real healthy and strong 00:15:03.02\00:15:07.58 just like Daniel. We want to be that way! 00:15:07.61\00:15:10.08 - If you eat some of the other foods you get lots of this stuff 00:15:10.11\00:15:13.23 this is the sugar, now if you eat this one over here 00:15:13.26\00:15:16.52 you will get almost 6 teaspoons of sugar in this one, 00:15:16.55\00:15:20.72 that's a lot of sugar, and you know who can eat only 00:15:20.75\00:15:25.83 one of these. - Most people want two or three. 00:15:25.86\00:15:29.08 - You bet and when you eat those you get almost 8 cubes of sugar 00:15:29.11\00:15:33.40 in this one, that's a lot of sugar, and not very good 00:15:33.43\00:15:38.24 for you at all. But when you eat that one over there, 00:15:38.27\00:15:41.82 oh, this one could you eat more than this cereal? 00:15:41.85\00:15:46.60 I know we could eat almost two times this cereal, 00:15:46.63\00:15:49.60 we've got a lot of big eaters out there, and of that one 00:15:49.63\00:15:52.76 you are going to get almost four teaspoons of sugar 00:15:52.79\00:15:55.68 every time you have a serving, oh it's really a lot. 00:15:55.71\00:15:59.23 - That would be hard on our immune system wouldn't it? 00:15:59.26\00:16:01.58 - Not good at all and not to mention our teeth. 00:16:01.61\00:16:03.67 - You're right! - But when you eat some of these 00:16:03.70\00:16:06.13 God's sugar, how much sugar do you think is in these? 00:16:06.16\00:16:09.77 Not any at all. - It's just God's kind of sugar. 00:16:09.80\00:16:14.30 Wouldn't that be great to eat food the way that God 00:16:14.33\00:16:17.62 wanted us to eat? - Yeah! 00:16:17.65\00:16:19.05 Yeah! You grow up to be strong like Daniel. 00:16:19.08\00:16:21.86 - Yes! The what child? 00:23:27.17\00:23:30.01 The northwest corner of the garden, it's bounded on the 00:23:30.04\00:23:33.01 north by the old apple tree, east by the walk and south 00:23:33.04\00:23:35.87 by the black berry bushes and west by the sweet corn field. 00:23:35.90\00:23:38.66 Just then mother came walking into the barn and she and father 00:23:38.69\00:23:42.98 both chuckled at her precise description of the place. 00:23:43.01\00:23:46.24 You needn't make fun of me said Bertha, I tried to be 00:23:46.27\00:23:49.78 particular so I could save you the trouble of going to 00:23:49.81\00:23:51.65 see the spot. Mr. Dickenson turned to his wife 00:23:51.68\00:23:54.96 and very seriously said, mother Bertha wants me to deed her 00:23:54.99\00:23:59.15 the northwest corner of the garden, are you ready to sign 00:23:59.18\00:24:01.83 the papers, well said mother it's fine with me if she wants 00:24:01.86\00:24:05.53 that part of the garden. But I'm curious, 00:24:05.56\00:24:09.25 what do you want it for Bertha? Are you going to build a 00:24:09.28\00:24:12.34 doll house, I want it for a grave yard mother. 00:24:12.37\00:24:15.56 A grave yard explained father what are you going to bury dear? 00:24:15.59\00:24:20.18 Quick as a flash of light, Bertha picked up her father's 00:24:20.21\00:24:23.62 pipe which lay on the wooden bench right by the door. 00:24:23.65\00:24:26.04 This first she said as she raced off, she was so quick 00:24:26.07\00:24:29.78 that no one saw what she had done, but that evening after 00:24:29.81\00:24:33.33 supper when Mr. Dickenson was ready to smoke his pipe 00:24:33.36\00:24:36.34 he couldn't find it anywhere. Where's my pipe, who has seen 00:24:36.37\00:24:41.19 my pipe he shouted in a not to pleasant tones. 00:24:41.22\00:24:45.20 I buried it daddy in my new grave yard answered Bertha 00:24:45.23\00:24:49.02 sweetly, come and see. You did what? 00:24:49.05\00:24:52.73 Yes! in a shocked voice. I buried it in my new grave yard 00:24:52.76\00:24:57.38 do you want to come and see? 00:24:57.41\00:24:58.85 He was to shocked to answer so he just followed Bertha 00:24:58.88\00:25:02.95 down to the northwest corner of the garden, and there she 00:25:02.98\00:25:07.14 pointed to a neat little mound, at the head of it was placed a 00:25:07.17\00:25:11.02 broken piece of shingle with these words neatly written 00:25:11.05\00:25:15.13 on it, Here Lies My Father's Pipe, Rest Forever. 00:25:15.16\00:25:19.92 Bertha's father was at a loss for words, he didn't know 00:25:19.95\00:25:24.20 whether to laugh or to be angry finally he decided to do neither 00:25:24.23\00:25:28.41 but to try to get to her meaning in all of this. 00:25:28.44\00:25:30.77 So sitting down in an over turned wheel barrow 00:25:30.80\00:25:33.78 he took Bertha on his knees and began to question her, 00:25:33.81\00:25:37.19 why did you do this child? Because I didn't want you to die 00:25:37.22\00:25:42.06 as Mr. Thurston did, it's a fact daddy, I heard Dr. Bell 00:25:42.09\00:25:45.83 say so when we were coming home from the funeral. 00:25:45.86\00:25:48.04 Miss Stevens asked, and what was wrong with Mr. Thurston? 00:25:48.07\00:25:51.15 And Dr. Bell said pipe Miss Stevens pipe, he smoked 00:25:51.18\00:25:54.90 himself to death, so daddy after hearing how bad smoking 00:25:54.93\00:25:59.08 is for your health I thought I would dig a grave and bury 00:25:59.11\00:26:02.14 the old pipe, you won't dig it up will you? 00:26:02.17\00:26:06.45 Mr. Dickenson was quiet for a few minutes then he said 00:26:06.48\00:26:09.97 slowly but firmly, no Bertha your father is not a 00:26:10.00\00:26:14.93 grave robber, I'll miss the old pipe but I do know that 00:26:14.96\00:26:18.88 it's not good for my health, it's just been hard for me to 00:26:18.91\00:26:22.05 quit, but I guess that I have no choice but to quit now. 00:26:22.08\00:26:25.07 That's good said Bertha with a hug and a kiss, 00:26:25.10\00:26:27.55 is that what you wanted this great grave yard for 00:26:27.58\00:26:31.53 asked father smiling again, only to bury my own pipe? 00:26:31.56\00:26:35.88 Oh no indeed answered Bertha, I'm going to bury other things 00:26:35.91\00:26:40.54 here, I expect I'll have a funeral almost every day, 00:26:40.57\00:26:44.18 I'm going to bury Joe's cigarettes next and Uncle Ned's 00:26:44.21\00:26:48.27 cigars and... How will you get them my dear 00:26:48.30\00:26:51.04 asked daddy, oh I'll manage daddy, I have ideas, 00:26:51.08\00:26:54.74 Bertha answered sweetly. Bertha proved to be a busy 00:26:54.77\00:26:58.34 little undertaker and by the end of the week more than a 00:26:58.37\00:27:01.52 dozen items were buried in her new cemetery. 00:27:01.55\00:27:04.42 The graves were all made evenly side by side, exactly 00:27:04.45\00:27:08.07 the same size nicely rounded and turfed. At the head of each 00:27:08.10\00:27:12.05 was a tiny board telling what was buried there and who it 00:27:12.08\00:27:14.88 used to belong to. These head boards took Bertha a great deal 00:27:14.91\00:27:18.82 of time and patience to make but she did her best 00:27:18.85\00:27:22.26 to print neatly on them. On one was: 00:27:22.29\00:27:24.88 on the next was: 00:27:29.10\00:27:35.07 By that fall the northwest corner lot was finally full 00:27:35.10\00:27:39.70 more than 60 neat little graves were there in rows, 00:27:39.73\00:27:43.81 the apple tree spread a friendly shade over the spot 00:27:43.84\00:27:47.78 the blackberries ripened beside them and many many a visitor 00:27:47.81\00:27:52.12 was taken slyly down the garden walk to see Bertha's graveyard 00:27:52.15\00:27:56.50 and each person who saw Bertha's unusual graveyard thought 00:27:56.53\00:28:01.68 the best part was that everyone of those neat little graves 00:28:01.71\00:28:06.31 represented a man or a woman who had stopped an evil habit. 00:28:06.34\00:28:10.99 Now those men and women would be healthier and happier 00:28:11.02\00:28:15.36 because of the courage, faithfulness, and perseverance 00:28:15.39\00:28:19.30 of a little girl who loved purity and good health. 00:28:19.33\00:28:24.56 And do you know what I am happy about? 00:28:24.59\00:28:27.20 I'm so happy that Jesus can give you the courage to make 00:28:27.23\00:28:32.90 good choices and plant good seeds in your life, 00:28:32.93\00:28:36.23 you'll be beautiful because of it too. 00:28:36.26\00:28:39.12 See you next time! Bye Bye! 00:28:39.15\00:28:42.05
