¤¤¤ 00:00:00.33\00:00:04.30 >>Eric Flickinger: Welcome to "Sabbath School," 00:00:16.31\00:00:17.68 brought to you by It Is Written. 00:00:17.71\00:00:20.05 Well, we are here. This is the 13th study, 00:00:20.08\00:00:23.45 the 13th lesson on the book of Psalms, 00:00:23.49\00:00:26.35 and today we're going to bring everything together. 00:00:26.39\00:00:29.02 The title is "Waiting on the Lord." 00:00:29.06\00:00:31.46 How do we wait on the Lord, 00:00:31.49\00:00:33.09 and why is that the very final lesson 00:00:33.13\00:00:36.06 in our study of the book of Psalms? 00:00:36.10\00:00:37.60 We're about to find out. Let's begin with prayer. 00:00:37.63\00:00:40.44 Father, thank You for being with us 00:00:40.47\00:00:42.44 on this quarter-long journey, this 13-week journey. 00:00:42.47\00:00:47.48 We've been on a bit of an odyssey and learned much 00:00:47.51\00:00:50.81 about You through the book of Psalms. 00:00:50.85\00:00:53.38 We ask now that as we bring our study to a close right now, 00:00:53.42\00:00:56.92 You would bless us with a deeper understanding and send us off 00:00:56.95\00:01:00.92 into the future the better for our time with You. 00:01:00.96\00:01:03.59 We thank You in Jesus' name. 00:01:03.63\00:01:05.29 Amen. 00:01:05.33\00:01:06.56 Well, we're glad that you are back, and we're also glad that 00:01:06.59\00:01:10.00 we have our special guest, the author of this quarter's 00:01:10.03\00:01:13.27 "Sabbath School" lesson back with us once again, 00:01:13.30\00:01:15.74 Dr. Dragoslava Santrac. 00:01:15.77\00:01:18.07 You have a PhD in Old Testament, 00:01:18.11\00:01:20.31 and we are grateful for you sharing so much with us 00:01:20.34\00:01:23.35 because your passion for the book of Psalms 00:01:23.38\00:01:25.41 has been very clearly evident through this quarter. 00:01:25.45\00:01:28.32 Thank you once again for being here. 00:01:28.35\00:01:30.15 >>Dragoslava Santrac: Praise God, yes. 00:01:30.19\00:01:32.09 >>Eric: So, let's take a look at this: 00:01:32.12\00:01:33.49 "Wait on the Lord." It's perhaps an interesting note 00:01:33.52\00:01:38.73 to end our study of the book of Psalms on: 00:01:38.76\00:01:42.13 Wait on the Lord. 00:01:42.16\00:01:43.26 What is the significance of waiting on the Lord? 00:01:43.30\00:01:46.00 Why end our study of the book of Psalms 00:01:46.03\00:01:48.60 on waiting on the Lord, and what is that all about? 00:01:48.64\00:01:50.91 >>Dragoslava: Well, Eric, don't we all wish to finish 00:01:50.94\00:01:55.31 our study with lesson number 12, the worship that never ends? 00:01:55.34\00:02:01.45 And not just to end the study with that lesson but to end up 00:02:01.48\00:02:06.09 in that worship that never ends. 00:02:06.12\00:02:08.69 But as we all know, once we accept the Lord, 00:02:08.72\00:02:12.99 once we are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb 00:02:13.03\00:02:16.26 and become part of His covenantal people, 00:02:16.30\00:02:20.27 we are not automatically transferred from this earth 00:02:20.30\00:02:26.47 into God's heavenly kingdom. 00:02:26.51\00:02:29.28 Our journey on this earth continues. 00:02:29.31\00:02:32.11 And hence the message to wait on the Lord is a crucial message 00:02:32.15\00:02:37.55 from the Psalms to finish our study. 00:02:37.59\00:02:40.82 And I would like to say if there is a final word 00:02:40.86\00:02:44.09 that the Psalms want to impose on our hearts is--and minds-- 00:02:44.13\00:02:49.10 is wait on the Lord. 00:02:49.13\00:02:53.10 Waiting on the Lord becomes this spiritual context 00:02:53.13\00:02:57.47 in which we wait, live, and work while awaiting 00:02:57.51\00:03:03.55 the eschatological fulfillment 00:03:03.58\00:03:06.11 of all the Lord's glorious promises 00:03:06.15\00:03:09.32 and Jesus's second coming. 00:03:09.35\00:03:11.85 >>Eric: So that is something that we are most certainly 00:03:11.89\00:03:13.89 looking forward to with great anticipation. 00:03:13.92\00:03:16.06 We wish it would come a little sooner rather than later, 00:03:16.09\00:03:18.79 but yet here we are. 00:03:18.83\00:03:21.16 So how does that help us in our spiritual life? 00:03:21.20\00:03:25.10 We want to be there now. We're not. 00:03:25.13\00:03:28.94 How does a correct understanding of how waiting 00:03:28.97\00:03:32.37 fits into this process, how does that help us today spiritually? 00:03:32.41\00:03:37.78 >>Dragoslava: Yeah, so, well, I believe that waiting 00:03:37.81\00:03:40.98 is one of the greatest stresses in life, 00:03:41.02\00:03:45.39 and especially in these modern times when we have 00:03:45.42\00:03:49.46 everything at the fingertip. 00:03:49.49\00:03:51.86 And sometimes when our, let's say, internet connection 00:03:51.89\00:03:55.10 is slow, we're like, "Oh, when? Come on, hurry up." 00:03:55.13\00:03:59.07 We are impatient in waiting. 00:03:59.10\00:04:01.67 That's a difficult, difficult task for us, for many of us. 00:04:01.70\00:04:05.84 However, when we read the Psalms and the rest of the Bible, 00:04:05.87\00:04:10.15 we realize that the waiting on the Lord is different. 00:04:10.18\00:04:14.58 It's not an idle and desperate bidding over one's time. 00:04:14.62\00:04:20.06 Quite contrary, waiting on the Lord is filled 00:04:20.09\00:04:23.63 with hope and filled with faith in action. 00:04:23.66\00:04:28.03 So there are things that we need to do. 00:04:28.06\00:04:31.60 There is a work on this earth that remains to be done, 00:04:31.63\00:04:35.64 and we are called to participate in it. 00:04:35.67\00:04:39.44 And by doing that, it is a time for self-reflection 00:04:39.47\00:04:44.28 and time for drawing near to God our Lord. 00:04:44.31\00:04:48.95 And maybe, Eric, if we have time, 00:04:48.98\00:04:50.72 we can read some texts from the Psalms, which tell us 00:04:50.75\00:04:55.06 about waiting on the Lord. 00:04:55.09\00:04:57.39 And first one I would like to share 00:04:57.43\00:05:00.16 is Psalm 39, verses 4 and 7. 00:05:00.20\00:05:04.13 And maybe, Eric, if you would like to read. 00:05:04.17\00:05:07.57 >>Eric: Sure. Psalm 39, verse 4 says, 00:05:07.60\00:05:10.41 "Lord, make me to know my end, 00:05:10.44\00:05:12.94 "and what is the measure of my days, 00:05:12.97\00:05:14.94 that I may know how frail I am." 00:05:14.98\00:05:17.41 And verse 7 says, "And now, Lord, what do I wait for? 00:05:17.45\00:05:21.62 My hope is in You." 00:05:21.65\00:05:23.45 >>Dragoslava: So the first aspect of this waiting 00:05:23.49\00:05:26.25 is drawing near to God in self-reflection. 00:05:26.29\00:05:30.09 The psalmist says, "Make me know my end." 00:05:30.13\00:05:33.46 Let me understand my life. 00:05:33.50\00:05:35.53 And what I wait for is my hope in You, 00:05:35.56\00:05:38.93 is the hope of righteousness, 00:05:38.97\00:05:40.77 of renewal, and closer relationship with God. 00:05:40.80\00:05:44.07 Another text in 37, verse 34. 00:05:44.11\00:05:48.94 >>Eric: It says, "Wait on the Lord, 00:05:48.98\00:05:50.91 "and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; 00:05:50.95\00:05:55.18 when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it." 00:05:55.22\00:05:58.15 >>Dragoslava: So another aspect of waiting of the Lord 00:05:58.19\00:06:02.16 is when, while we wait, we keep His way. 00:06:02.19\00:06:06.80 And we will remember from couple weeks ago 00:06:06.83\00:06:10.30 we spoke about the way. 00:06:10.33\00:06:12.83 The way in the Psalms is the way of the Lord's law, 00:06:12.87\00:06:16.44 of His righteous revelation, 00:06:16.47\00:06:19.27 of His righteous will for our daily living. 00:06:19.31\00:06:22.74 So while we wait, we walk in the path of righteousness, 00:06:22.78\00:06:26.51 keeping the Lord's righteous precepts and laws. 00:06:26.55\00:06:30.15 Then chapter 40, verse 1 tells us about another thing 00:06:30.19\00:06:35.59 we do while we wait on the Lord. 00:06:35.62\00:06:38.09 >>Eric: "I waited patiently for the Lord; 00:06:38.13\00:06:39.96 and He inclined to me, and heard my cry." 00:06:40.00\00:06:42.90 >>Dragoslava: "He heard my cry." He heard my prayer. 00:06:42.93\00:06:46.60 So while we wait on the Lord, we pray for ourselves, 00:06:46.63\00:06:50.47 for the Lord's kingdom, for the Lord's work on this world. 00:06:50.51\00:06:55.04 So we pray. Waiting time is filled with prayer. 00:06:55.08\00:06:59.11 Then another one, and in 37, verse 7. 00:06:59.15\00:07:03.08 >>Eric: "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him." 00:07:03.12\00:07:06.12 >>Dragoslava: Ha, so while we wait on the Lord, 00:07:06.15\00:07:08.49 we are called to rest in the Lord. 00:07:08.52\00:07:12.46 So it means that we have this peace and reassurance 00:07:12.49\00:07:16.26 that the Lord is coming. 00:07:16.30\00:07:18.20 We are not to fret and worry but instead rest in the Lord. 00:07:18.23\00:07:22.50 And maybe one final text in Psalm 126, verse 6. 00:07:22.54\00:07:28.51 So yes, we work for the Lord, but we also rest in the Lord. 00:07:28.54\00:07:32.48 >>Eric: "He who continually goes forth weeping, 00:07:32.51\00:07:35.48 "bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again 00:07:35.52\00:07:38.75 with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him." 00:07:38.79\00:07:42.02 >>Dragoslava: Yes, so while we wait on the Lord, 00:07:42.06\00:07:44.29 we bear this wonderful news of bringing in the sheaves 00:07:44.33\00:07:48.90 of the plentiful mission fields of the Lord's mission. Yes. 00:07:48.93\00:07:54.27 >>Eric: So this waiting is not a sitting by, 00:07:54.30\00:07:57.51 twiddling one's thumbs, and saying, 00:07:57.54\00:08:00.08 "I sure do hope Jesus comes soon," 00:08:00.11\00:08:02.41 but this is a very active waiting. 00:08:02.44\00:08:04.91 It's a very engaged waiting rather than just kind of hoping 00:08:04.95\00:08:10.32 for the best in the near future. 00:08:10.35\00:08:13.46 Can you think of any other benefits of waiting? 00:08:13.49\00:08:16.06 What would--what else could we be doing while we're waiting, 00:08:16.09\00:08:20.23 instead of just wishing He would come? 00:08:20.26\00:08:23.26 >>Dragoslava: Yes. >>Eric: Anything else we can do? 00:08:23.30\00:08:24.93 >>Dragoslava: Yes. Waiting is an act of faith. 00:08:24.97\00:08:28.47 We can recall Jesus's parable of the 10 virgins, 00:08:28.50\00:08:32.97 five that were wise and those that were unwise. 00:08:33.01\00:08:37.11 The wise one had their lamps filled with the oil, 00:08:37.15\00:08:41.45 the precious oil that represents the Holy Spirit, 00:08:41.48\00:08:45.32 and the unwise ones, well, they thought, 00:08:45.35\00:08:48.09 "Well, we don't need that much preparation. 00:08:48.12\00:08:51.46 "Everything is going to go smoothly and according 00:08:51.49\00:08:55.43 to our plan." 00:08:55.46\00:08:56.90 But the bridegroom was a bit late-- 00:08:56.93\00:09:02.30 from their perspective, all right? 00:09:02.34\00:09:04.77 And when the time of his arrival came, 00:09:04.81\00:09:07.44 those who were prepared, therefore those who were 00:09:07.48\00:09:10.05 waiting in the Holy Spirit, in faith, they were ready 00:09:10.08\00:09:14.58 to come in. And waiting, as I said, is an act of faith. 00:09:14.62\00:09:19.59 When you wait on something, you know and you confess this trust 00:09:19.62\00:09:24.13 that it is coming. 00:09:24.16\00:09:26.16 Eric, when I was coming to Collegedale on Sunday, 00:09:26.19\00:09:31.40 I waited on my airplane for almost 13 hours. 00:09:31.43\00:09:37.31 It was delayed and delayed and delayed for 13 hours, 00:09:37.34\00:09:44.08 but I sat there because I knew I had to be here. 00:09:44.11\00:09:48.42 I felt that the Lord wanted me to be here. 00:09:48.45\00:09:52.32 So I knew that the plane, that the transportation somehow 00:09:52.35\00:09:56.56 will come, and I waited. 00:09:56.59\00:09:58.69 And I could--I can tell you many people just gave up, 00:09:58.73\00:10:02.46 bought a ticket for another day, but I waited for my place. 00:10:02.50\00:10:07.24 So when we wait in faith, we confess to the world 00:10:07.27\00:10:11.74 that we trust that the Lord is coming. 00:10:11.77\00:10:15.11 >>Eric: And the good news is God is even more reliable 00:10:15.14\00:10:18.01 than the airlines are. >>Dragoslava: Absolutely. 00:10:18.05\00:10:20.18 >>Eric: So we can be absolutely certain that when He promises 00:10:20.22\00:10:23.05 He's going to come, He will indeed come. 00:10:23.08\00:10:26.15 And I think we've kind of touched on this, 00:10:26.19\00:10:27.96 but maybe we can elaborate a little bit more on it, 00:10:27.99\00:10:30.43 the--about how it's done in the Psalms. 00:10:30.46\00:10:32.39 We looked at several different things. 00:10:32.43\00:10:34.10 What's the ultimate goal in our waiting? 00:10:34.10\00:10:37.03 What's the ultimate hope in our waiting? 00:10:37.07\00:10:40.54 It's, I think you just--you said it to some extent-- 00:10:40.57\00:10:43.20 it's in Jesus' return. 00:10:43.24\00:10:44.94 It's in Him fulfilling His promises. 00:10:44.97\00:10:47.04 Any other thoughts on that? 00:10:47.08\00:10:47.91 >>Dragoslava: Yes. It's exactly that. 00:10:47.94\00:10:50.18 It is meeting our Lord face to face. 00:10:50.21\00:10:54.35 Now we meet Him in faith. 00:10:54.38\00:10:56.32 Now we see in faith many things that are promised in the Bible, 00:10:56.35\00:11:02.29 in the Scripture, but we are waiting for this grand 00:11:02.32\00:11:06.43 fulfillment of all His promises, but it doesn't mean 00:11:06.46\00:11:10.20 that we do not have things fulfilled even in this life. 00:11:10.23\00:11:14.54 And they give us strength to continue waiting. 00:11:14.57\00:11:19.21 And waiting encourages us to become humble, 00:11:19.24\00:11:23.45 to become patient; and these are great qualities 00:11:23.48\00:11:27.42 in the Lord's side, especially being humble because 00:11:27.45\00:11:30.92 when we wait, we acknowledge that God has His own time 00:11:30.95\00:11:35.96 and that He is wise in His doings. 00:11:35.99\00:11:39.19 And our waiting becomes a testimony to other people 00:11:39.23\00:11:43.03 as well. 00:11:43.06\00:11:44.33 >>Eric: I think you're absolutely right. 00:11:44.37\00:11:46.03 And speaking of waiting, if you have waited to pick up 00:11:46.07\00:11:49.87 the companion book to this quarter's 00:11:49.90\00:11:51.81 "Sabbath School" lesson, don't wait any longer. 00:11:51.84\00:11:54.78 You want to pick that one up because 00:11:54.81\00:11:56.95 it won't be around forever. 00:11:56.98\00:11:58.75 You can find it at itiswritten.shop. 00:11:58.78\00:12:02.12 Again, that's itiswritten.shop. 00:12:02.15\00:12:04.79 And why should you get it now 00:12:04.82\00:12:06.55 when the quarter is well-nigh over? 00:15:13.38\00:15:14.94 >>Dragoslava: Yes, well, we mentioned earlier 00:15:14.98\00:15:17.58 Psalm 37, verse 7: 00:15:17.61\00:15:20.95 "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him." 00:15:20.98\00:15:25.95 So there is this connection between waiting on the Lord 00:15:25.99\00:15:31.49 and resting in the Lord. 00:15:31.53\00:15:34.23 And what a wonderful rest we have in the Sabbath rest 00:15:34.30\00:15:40.74 that the Lord has creating at the creation of the world 00:15:40.77\00:15:44.74 and granted this gift of rest to us as His loving, caring gift. 00:15:44.77\00:15:51.45 The Sabbath rest is crucial as we wait on the Lord 00:15:51.48\00:15:55.78 because no amount of human enthusiasm will help us 00:15:55.82\00:16:01.62 against the strain of this endurance 00:16:01.66\00:16:05.46 and the waiting that will pause on us. 00:16:05.49\00:16:08.56 And that's why this call to rest in the Lord while we wait 00:16:08.60\00:16:13.10 is so important, and here comes Sabbath rest. 00:16:13.13\00:16:16.27 And Psalm 95 is a psalm for the Sabbath day. 00:16:16.30\00:16:22.11 It is traditionally read on Sabbath, 00:16:22.14\00:16:25.78 and well, because the topics mentioned in these psalms 00:16:25.81\00:16:32.42 are the Sabbath topics. 00:16:32.45\00:16:34.26 The psalm speaks about creation, 00:16:34.29\00:16:37.29 about praising the Lord for His wonderful works of creation, 00:16:37.33\00:16:43.03 and also praising the Lord for His work of redemption 00:16:43.06\00:16:49.90 as our covenantal Lord. 00:16:49.94\00:16:52.67 And when we read the Ten Commandments 00:16:52.71\00:16:55.38 in Exodus and Deuteronomy 20 and Deuteronomy 5, 00:16:55.41\00:17:00.95 Exodus 20, we see these two aspects of the Sabbath rest: 00:17:00.98\00:17:05.25 creation in Exodus 00:17:05.29\00:17:07.79 and redemption in Deuteronomy. 00:17:07.82\00:17:10.29 And this is exactly what this psalm has. 00:17:10.33\00:17:13.76 So as we wait on the Lord, we don't wait in our own strength 00:17:13.80\00:17:19.40 because we don't have enough strength to endure this waiting, 00:17:19.43\00:17:23.94 but we wait in the Lord's rest. 00:17:23.97\00:17:26.94 However, I would like to-- us to come to verse 8 and 9 00:17:26.98\00:17:33.31 because there is a warning in this psalm that speaks 00:17:33.35\00:17:38.65 about Sabbath rest. 00:17:38.69\00:17:41.99 So while we rest and wait on the Lord, 00:17:42.02\00:17:45.96 there is a warning. 00:17:45.99\00:17:47.66 And, Eric, I don't know if I can ask you to maybe read verses, 00:17:47.73\00:17:51.40 maybe the last line of verse 7 00:17:51.43\00:17:55.07 and then verses 8 and 9. 00:17:55.10\00:17:57.44 >>Eric: "Today, if you will hear His voice: 00:17:57.47\00:18:00.11 "'Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, 00:18:00.14\00:18:02.98 "'as in the day of trial in the wilderness, 00:18:03.01\00:18:05.41 "'when your fathers tested me; 00:18:05.45\00:18:07.42 they tried me, though they saw my work.'" 00:18:07.45\00:18:10.35 >>Dragoslava: Yes, so while we wait on the Lord, we are tempted 00:18:10.39\00:18:14.72 and we can be tempted to rebel against the Lord. 00:18:14.76\00:18:18.46 When we go back and read this event in Numbers, 00:18:18.49\00:18:22.43 we realize that the people rebelled against the Lord 00:18:22.46\00:18:25.90 because the 40-year journey in the wilderness 00:18:25.93\00:18:30.37 was too long for them. 00:18:30.41\00:18:33.07 And in the course of that journey they rebelled 00:18:33.11\00:18:36.21 against the Lord; they couldn't patiently wait for the Lord 00:18:36.24\00:18:40.72 to bring them to the Promised Land. 00:18:40.75\00:18:42.95 And verse 10 says, 00:18:42.98\00:18:44.55 "For forty years I was grieved with that generation, 00:18:44.59\00:18:48.92 "and [I] said, 'It is a people who go astray in their hearts, 00:18:48.96\00:18:53.40 and they do not know my ways.'" 00:18:53.43\00:18:56.36 So we can stray away from the Lord 00:18:56.40\00:18:59.40 in our heart by becoming impatient and giving up 00:18:59.43\00:19:03.91 on everything, giving up on the Lord. 00:19:03.94\00:19:06.44 And because of that, the Lord says in verse 11, 00:19:06.47\00:19:09.94 "So I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest.'" 00:19:09.98\00:19:16.95 And this is a solemn and serious warning for us, 00:19:16.99\00:19:21.49 that we may miss the Lord's rest as we become impatient 00:19:21.52\00:19:28.30 and give up on this faith while we are waiting. 00:19:28.33\00:19:31.83 And the book of Hebrews also cites this psalm 00:19:31.87\00:19:36.00 and has something important to tell us. 00:19:36.04\00:19:39.41 >>Eric: So let's go take a look at that, 00:19:39.44\00:19:40.44 and that's over in Hebrews, chapter 4, 00:19:40.48\00:19:44.01 Hebrews, chapter 4. And let's see, 00:19:44.05\00:19:47.38 looks like we got it in several different verses here. 00:19:47.42\00:19:50.35 Verse 3, Hebrews, chapter 4, verse 3 says, 00:19:50.39\00:19:54.02 "For we who have believed do enter that rest, 00:19:54.06\00:19:57.83 "as He has said: 'So I swore in my wrath, 00:19:57.86\00:20:00.96 "[that] "They shall not enter my rest,"' although the works 00:20:00.96\00:20:04.37 "were finished from the foundation of the world. 00:20:04.40\00:20:07.17 "For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day 00:20:07.20\00:20:10.41 "in this way: 'And God rested on the seventh day 00:20:10.44\00:20:13.44 "from all His works'; 00:20:13.48\00:20:14.94 and again in this place: 'They shall not enter my rest.'" 00:20:14.98\00:20:18.78 >>Dragoslava: This is very interesting. 00:20:18.81\00:20:20.78 The author of the book of Hebrews 00:20:20.82\00:20:23.62 mentions in verse 4 the Sabbath day; 00:20:23.65\00:20:26.92 "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works." 00:20:26.96\00:20:30.73 In the book of Genesis, we read that that's the Sabbath day, 00:20:30.76\00:20:34.73 Saturday, His holy day of rest. 00:20:34.73\00:20:37.73 But then although God gave that as a gift to His people, 00:20:37.77\00:20:42.87 the reality very often is, as mentioned in verse 5, 00:20:42.90\00:20:48.11 "They shall not enter my rest." 00:20:48.14\00:20:51.48 So here are several things important for us to notice here. 00:20:51.51\00:20:55.85 Number one, whose rest is Sabbath? 00:20:55.88\00:21:00.62 It is God's rest. 00:21:00.66\00:21:03.49 Sometimes we may forget that and we may think 00:21:03.53\00:21:06.96 that Sabbath rest is something that we create for ourselves. 00:21:07.00\00:21:11.47 We don't work on Sabbath, we go to church, 00:21:11.50\00:21:14.64 maybe plan some nice outings with friends in nature, 00:21:14.67\00:21:19.34 maybe we take a long nap after a nice lunch. 00:21:19.37\00:21:23.85 And these are all nice activities, 00:21:23.88\00:21:25.85 I don't want anyone to misunderstand me, 00:21:25.88\00:21:28.75 but in doing that, in trying to create this nice rest 00:21:28.78\00:21:32.72 for ourselves and our families, we must not forget that 00:21:32.75\00:21:37.36 the Sabbath rest is a bit different type of rest. 00:21:37.39\00:21:42.26 It is connected to this physical, mental, 00:21:42.30\00:21:46.20 but it is a different type of rest. 00:21:46.23\00:21:48.04 It is--the Lord says, "It is my rest." It is God's rest, 00:21:48.07\00:21:52.51 that only He can create for us and give it to us as His gift. 00:21:52.54\00:21:59.51 And for that reason, we see that some people-- 00:21:59.55\00:22:03.12 and we see, for example, 00:22:03.15\00:22:05.39 in Hebrews, chapter 3, verse 19, 00:22:05.42\00:22:11.53 "So we see that they could not enter in 00:22:11.56\00:22:16.63 because of unbelief." 00:22:16.67\00:22:20.27 Through unbelief, through the lack 00:22:20.30\00:22:22.27 of our wholehearted commitment to the Lord, 00:22:22.30\00:22:27.28 we may miss receiving His Sabbath rest. 00:22:27.31\00:22:31.05 And though we cease from our usual work, 00:22:31.08\00:22:34.68 we can miss on His Sabbath gift. 00:22:34.72\00:22:38.22 And so the question is, how do we miss the Sabbath, Lord? 00:22:38.25\00:22:45.16 Hebrews says through unbelief. 00:22:45.19\00:22:47.60 Psalm 95 says, verse 8, 00:22:47.66\00:22:52.47 "Do not harden your hearts, as in...rebellion," 00:22:52.50\00:22:55.97 through hardening of our heart. 00:22:56.00\00:22:58.44 If the Holy Spirit is speaking to us throughout 00:22:58.47\00:23:02.38 the week and we neglect and we keep repressing 00:23:02.41\00:23:06.45 that voice, we allow our heart to become hardened and hardened. 00:23:06.48\00:23:10.62 And isn't it awful and so tragic to miss this Sabbath rest 00:23:10.65\00:23:17.53 of the Lord that empowers us to wait on the Lord in faith? 00:23:17.56\00:23:23.33 >>Eric: So a gift that He gave us all the way back at creation 00:23:23.37\00:23:25.97 that helps us to be ready for Him to return--powerful. 00:23:26.00\00:23:31.11 There is a lot of symbolism in the book of Psalms, 00:23:31.14\00:23:33.38 and it talks a lot about the morning. 00:23:33.41\00:23:36.24 What's--what is the morning in the book of Psalms? 00:23:36.28\00:23:38.95 How does that help us? 00:23:38.98\00:23:40.12 >>Dragoslava: Yes, many psalms will tell us that 00:23:40.15\00:23:42.22 the "joy comes in the morning." 00:23:42.25\00:23:44.75 "I have waited on the Lord, and in the morning 00:23:44.79\00:23:48.26 He has reached out to me." 00:23:48.29\00:23:50.33 There is a nice symbolism here. 00:23:50.36\00:23:52.79 Just as the sunshine, the light of the morning, 00:23:52.83\00:23:56.97 reverses the darkness of the night, 00:23:57.00\00:24:00.47 so the deliverance, 00:24:00.50\00:24:01.80 the redemption of the Lord will reverse whatever darkness 00:24:01.84\00:24:06.04 we are going through, and ultimately the darkness 00:24:06.07\00:24:09.54 of sin and death in this world. 00:24:09.58\00:24:12.71 It points us to the morning of resurrection of Jesus 00:24:12.75\00:24:16.95 that we read--in the morning, 00:24:16.99\00:24:18.89 that early in the morning, the stone was removed, 00:24:18.92\00:24:23.63 and our resurrected Lord exited the grave gloriously 00:24:23.66\00:24:28.76 to give a victory to all those who trust in Him. 00:24:28.80\00:24:32.40 >>Eric: So that's something that we can look forward to 00:24:32.43\00:24:34.97 with great anticipation as we see the morning being referenced 00:24:35.00\00:24:38.87 through the book of Psalms. 00:24:38.91\00:24:41.74 Slava, we've been on quite a journey here 00:24:41.78\00:24:43.65 for the last 13 weeks, and we've had 00:24:43.68\00:24:46.18 quite a few people join us in the journey. 00:24:46.21\00:24:49.52 Any final thoughts or words that you'd like to share 00:24:49.55\00:24:53.46 as we draw this to a close? 00:24:53.49\00:24:55.36 >>Dragoslava: Yes, my dear co-journeyers and co-pilgrims 00:24:55.39\00:25:00.46 to the heavenly Zion, 00:25:00.50\00:25:02.60 for the very end of our 13-week journey 00:25:02.63\00:25:05.90 through the book of Psalms, 00:25:05.93\00:25:08.10 I would like to share several verses with you 00:25:08.14\00:25:11.24 from Psalm 37 to serve as an encouragement to all of us, 00:25:11.27\00:25:17.85 Psalm 37: "Trust in the Lord, and do good; 00:25:17.88\00:25:23.75 "dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 00:25:23.79\00:25:28.62 "Delight yourself also in the Lord, 00:25:28.66\00:25:31.33 "and He shall give... the desires of your heart. 00:25:31.36\00:25:35.30 "Commit your way to the Lord, 00:25:35.33\00:25:37.87 "trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.... 00:25:37.90\00:25:43.00 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him." 00:25:43.04\00:25:48.61 Our desire and prayer is that your journey 00:25:48.64\00:25:53.42 with the book of Psalms does not stop here 00:25:53.45\00:25:57.02 but continues on a daily basis. 00:25:57.05\00:26:00.29 I promise you you will find encouragement, 00:26:00.32\00:26:03.43 an entirely new world of faith will be opened up to you, 00:26:03.46\00:26:09.06 and you will see that you get matured and strengthened 00:26:09.10\00:26:14.17 in the Lord's Word and in His prayers. 00:26:14.20\00:26:17.87 Also, we hope that as we meet with our God daily, 00:26:17.91\00:26:25.75 heart-to-heart in the Psalms, that one day soon 00:26:25.78\00:26:29.92 we will meet with our Lord Jesus face to face. 00:26:29.95\00:26:34.09 This is our prayer. This is our desire. 00:26:34.12\00:26:37.36 And may God bless us all as we continue praying and singing 00:26:37.39\00:26:42.73 the psalms in the strange land. Thank you. 00:26:42.76\00:26:47.20 >>Eric: Slava, thank you so much for spending this time with us 00:26:47.24\00:26:50.57 and guiding us through this journey of an incredible book, 00:26:50.61\00:26:54.41 a much-loved book, a much-quoted book, 00:26:54.44\00:26:58.11 and a book that has brought a great deal of encouragement 00:26:58.15\00:27:01.12 and comfort to many people over the years. 00:27:01.15\00:27:03.62 We appreciate the time that you have spent in studying this book 00:27:03.65\00:27:06.79 and the time that you have spent with us to share with us 00:27:06.82\00:27:09.82 some of the wonderful beauty of the book over the course 00:27:09.86\00:27:12.99 of the last 13 weeks. 00:27:13.03\00:27:14.63 And we want to thank you also for joining us on this journey. 00:27:14.66\00:27:18.50 We trust and pray that it has been a blessing to you. 00:27:18.53\00:27:22.34 And please do not keep this blessing to yourself. 00:27:22.37\00:27:25.27 Share what you have learned with others so that they 00:27:25.31\00:27:28.94 may be encouraged on their journey as well. 00:27:28.98\00:27:32.58 May God bless you and keep you. 00:27:32.61\00:27:35.35 May His face shine upon you. 00:27:35.38\00:27:37.02 And we look forward to seeing you again next time 00:27:37.05\00:27:40.29 for a brand-new study here on "Sabbath School," 00:27:40.32\00:27:43.53 brought to you by It Is Written. 00:27:43.56\00:27:45.86 ¤¤¤ 00:27:45.89\00:27:49.86 ¤¤¤ 00:28:24.47\00:28:26.94 [Captions provided by Aberdeen Captioning www.abercap.com] 00:28:26.97\00:28:41.98
