00:01:54.51\00:01:55.84 [RAMOUGI] Take a wild guess. 00:01:56.21\00:01:57.45 [MIKE] Take wild guess! 00:01:57.45\00:01:58.61 I have no idea. 00:01:58.61\00:02:00.18 I just can't imagine. 00:02:00.18\00:02:01.75 They're just, like, way beyond 00:02:01.75\00:02:03.18 mine, that's for sure. 00:02:03.18\00:02:04.49 >> Yeah, they're the same, like, 00:02:04.49\00:02:06.65 number as my age. 00:02:06.65\00:02:07.92 So I'm-- they're 16. 00:02:07.92\00:02:08.92 [MIKE] Oh, 16! 00:02:08.92\00:02:09.66 [RENÉ] Oh, wow! 00:02:09.66\00:02:10.43 [MIKE] Wow. 00:02:10.43\00:02:11.43 [Mike & René laugh] 00:02:11.69\00:02:12.76 >> Okay, so let's begin at a 00:02:12.76\00:02:15.00 serious spot. 00:02:15.00\00:02:16.00 Tell us about your family. 00:02:16.00\00:02:16.93 Your family is very important 00:02:16.93\00:02:17.90 to you. 00:02:17.90\00:02:18.73 Where are they from and, 00:02:19.27\00:02:21.24 you know, how did you move to 00:02:21.24\00:02:23.51 Winnipeg? 00:02:23.51\00:02:24.51 >> Yeah, so my parents were born 00:02:24.84\00:02:26.54 in Kenya. 00:02:26.54\00:02:27.54 They travelled all around the 00:02:28.21\00:02:29.54 world, like, so many places that 00:02:29.54\00:02:32.31 they probably haven't even told 00:02:32.31\00:02:33.38 me all the place that they've 00:02:33.38\00:02:34.38 been to, so... 00:02:34.38\00:02:35.92 Yeah, they moved to America 00:02:35.92\00:02:38.05 and settled in Minnesota. 00:02:38.05\00:02:40.19 That's where they got married. 00:02:40.19\00:02:41.39 And then they had me and then 00:02:41.39\00:02:43.89 they also had my siblings there, 00:02:43.89\00:02:46.23 following, like, two, three 00:02:46.23\00:02:48.26 years after. 00:02:48.26\00:02:49.56 So we are, like, from several 00:02:49.56\00:02:53.94 places, well, my parents are 00:02:53.94\00:02:55.14 from several places. 00:02:55.14\00:02:56.07 Me, I was just born in 00:02:56.07\00:02:57.14 Minnesota. 00:02:57.14\00:02:57.97 And then at some point my dad 00:02:57.97\00:02:59.87 was like, "It's time to move out 00:02:59.87\00:03:01.08 of here," so... 00:03:01.08\00:03:02.04 ...we packed our stuff and we 00:03:02.28\00:03:04.41 moved to Manitoba when I was 00:03:04.41\00:03:07.35 around seven years, six, seven 00:03:07.35\00:03:08.98 years old. 00:03:08.98\00:03:10.25 >> And they're very important 00:03:11.29\00:03:12.55 to you, you're very close 00:03:12.55\00:03:13.59 as a family? 00:03:13.59\00:03:14.39 [RAMOGI] Mm-hm, extremely close 00:03:14.39\00:03:15.69 as a family. 00:03:15.69\00:03:16.69 Like, we talk about everything, 00:03:16.69\00:03:18.56 I tell them about everything. 00:03:18.56\00:03:19.89 It took a while for me to, like, 00:03:19.89\00:03:21.33 start opening up, though. 00:03:21.33\00:03:22.70 As you know, teenagers, they 00:03:23.16\00:03:25.13 have all this hormone stuff 00:03:25.13\00:03:26.53 that's going on and stuff 00:03:26.53\00:03:27.64 like that. 00:03:27.64\00:03:28.44 But sort of broke through that 00:03:28.44\00:03:30.61 and was able to talk to my 00:03:30.61\00:03:31.91 parents about certain things 00:03:31.91\00:03:33.14 that I'm doing in my life and 00:03:33.14\00:03:35.01 able to talk to my siblings and 00:03:35.01\00:03:36.61 being able to give them advice 00:03:36.61\00:03:37.85 and hear their stories and stuff 00:03:37.85\00:03:39.11 like that. 00:03:39.11\00:03:39.95 So we have definitely grown 00:03:39.95\00:03:42.05 close over the years. 00:03:42.05\00:03:43.45 >> So Ramogi, your family is 00:03:45.42\00:03:47.76 really critical to your 00:03:47.76\00:03:49.36 identity. 00:03:49.36\00:03:50.36 How important is your church and 00:03:50.93\00:03:54.60 your faith to your identity? 00:03:54.60\00:03:56.70 [RAMOGI] It's probably the exact 00:03:57.90\00:03:59.83 same as my family because they 00:03:59.83\00:04:03.47 have established me in the 00:04:03.47\00:04:04.54 church. 00:04:04.54\00:04:05.31 I was baptized when I was, 00:04:05.31\00:04:07.24 what was I, 13? 00:04:07.24\00:04:09.14 Yeah, I was a very young age 00:04:09.14\00:04:10.41 when I was baptized it means the 00:04:10.41\00:04:12.65 exact same thing. 00:04:12.65\00:04:14.15 God is a very important aspect 00:04:14.92\00:04:16.55 in my life because He's brought 00:04:16.55\00:04:18.25 me to the point in which I am 00:04:18.25\00:04:19.65 here today that I don't think 00:04:19.65\00:04:23.09 anyone else could have ever 00:04:23.09\00:04:24.59 helped me with that. 00:04:24.59\00:04:26.09 And I don't attribute anything 00:04:26.09\00:04:27.96 that I've done to myself because 00:04:27.96\00:04:29.90 I, realistically I've done 00:04:29.90\00:04:31.83 nothing, it's all God. 00:04:31.83\00:04:33.70 And I just want to-- I just 00:04:33.70\00:04:35.27 thank my parents for that, for 00:04:35.27\00:04:37.64 establishing me in this church 00:04:37.64\00:04:39.51 or in the Seventh-day Adventist 00:04:39.51\00:04:40.74 Church to be able to understand 00:04:40.74\00:04:42.21 that it's not me, it's God. 00:04:42.21\00:04:43.98 >> And what about the Sabbath, 00:04:45.71\00:04:47.32 Ramogi? 00:04:47.32\00:04:48.22 [RAMOGI] Sabbath? 00:04:48.22\00:04:49.05 Sabbath is a very important 00:04:49.05\00:04:50.45 thing. 00:04:50.45\00:04:51.29 It seems that this commandment 00:04:51.29\00:04:53.66 is the one that is neglected a 00:04:53.66\00:04:55.52 lot, but then also highlighted a 00:04:55.52\00:04:58.53 lot that the only commandment 00:04:58.53\00:05:00.63 that people don't follow. 00:05:00.63\00:05:02.10 And it's a very interesting, 00:05:02.10\00:05:06.20 like, argument around the 00:05:06.20\00:05:08.70 Christian world. 00:05:08.70\00:05:09.90 And I just feel like it's 00:05:09.90\00:05:11.54 important to find that rest, 00:05:11.54\00:05:14.01 find that time where you can be 00:05:14.01\00:05:15.11 able to reset yourself and find 00:05:15.11\00:05:16.68 yourself in God. 00:05:16.68\00:05:18.25 So I see the Seventh Day as a 00:05:18.25\00:05:20.02 very important thing in my life. 00:05:20.02\00:05:22.58 [MIKE] Let's go back to 00:05:23.95\00:05:24.85 basketball. 00:05:24.85\00:05:25.52 When did you first begin 00:05:25.52\00:05:27.29 playing basketball? 00:05:27.29\00:05:28.09 At what age? 00:05:28.09\00:05:29.32 >> It was probably, I would say, 00:05:29.32\00:05:31.03 two or three years after I moved 00:05:31.03\00:05:33.09 to Manitoba. 00:05:33.09\00:05:34.30 I was originally a 00:05:34.30\00:05:35.13 football player, 00:05:35.13\00:05:36.23 but my dad saw that I 00:05:36.23\00:05:38.43 was gonna be extremely tall and 00:05:38.43\00:05:39.67 they said, "There's no way that 00:05:39.67\00:05:41.17 you're playing football." 00:05:41.17\00:05:42.27 And my mom did not like the 00:05:42.27\00:05:43.91 concussions and the injuries 00:05:43.91\00:05:45.04 there, even though I kept 00:05:45.04\00:05:46.47 pressing over it and saying that 00:05:46.47\00:05:47.84 "Oh, I can do it, I can do it," 00:05:47.84\00:05:49.28 but she said no. 00:05:49.28\00:05:50.91 So I moved to basketball and 00:05:50.91\00:05:53.62 I've been training since I was 00:05:53.62\00:05:56.82 nine, ten, but not necessarily 00:05:56.82\00:05:59.42 with a trainer, just doing my 00:05:59.42\00:06:00.99 own thing, just running around 00:06:00.99\00:06:03.19 shooting the basketball. 00:06:03.19\00:06:04.26 I haven't actually had, like, 00:06:04.26\00:06:05.59 professional training done with 00:06:05.59\00:06:06.90 me, so all that I've learned and 00:06:06.90\00:06:09.13 all I've done is by myself. 00:06:09.13\00:06:10.57 And yeah, the hoop at the front 00:06:10.57\00:06:13.00 of my house, so... [laughs] 00:06:13.00\00:06:14.67 >> Your dad was a basketball 00:06:14.67\00:06:15.64 player? 00:06:15.64\00:06:16.20 [RAMOGI] Yeah, he was, yeah. 00:06:16.30\00:06:17.64 So was my mom, too. 00:06:17.64\00:06:19.14 He said that he was one of the 00:06:20.48\00:06:21.44 best in Kenya. 00:06:21.44\00:06:22.84 I still don't believe it. 00:06:22.84\00:06:24.21 [Mike laughs] 00:06:24.21\00:06:25.35 So I need to see, like, actual 00:06:25.35\00:06:27.22 newspapers and stuff like that 00:06:27.22\00:06:29.25 before I actually believe him, 00:06:29.25\00:06:30.55 say that he was one of the best. 00:06:30.55\00:06:31.95 Well, my uncle, so he said he 00:06:31.95\00:06:33.79 was better than my dad, that I 00:06:33.79\00:06:35.59 don't even-- I don't believe 00:06:35.59\00:06:36.83 that even more, so... 00:06:36.83\00:06:38.49 I'm gonna have to ask the family 00:06:38.89\00:06:40.73 around to see if it's actually 00:06:40.73\00:06:42.26 true or if they're just lying 00:06:42.26\00:06:43.37 to me. 00:06:43.37\00:06:44.30 >> My name is Robert Nyagudi and 00:06:46.43\00:06:49.04 I am Ramogi's Father. 00:06:49.04\00:06:50.64 My wife is not here with me. 00:06:51.11\00:06:52.77 My wife is-- her name is Martha. 00:06:52.77\00:06:55.54 And we are originally from 00:06:55.54\00:06:58.31 Kenya, moved to the United 00:06:58.31\00:07:00.82 States. 00:07:00.82\00:07:01.82 So we've lived in the United 00:07:02.28\00:07:03.35 States for a number of years and 00:07:03.35\00:07:05.45 then moved to Canada. 00:07:05.45\00:07:07.16 My family, we have a family in 00:07:08.36\00:07:11.36 Kenya and I have a brother in 00:07:11.36\00:07:14.13 Winnipeg here with me and I have 00:07:14.13\00:07:16.26 other family members in Sweden. 00:07:16.26\00:07:19.27 And so we somehow spread all 00:07:19.63\00:07:21.57 over, but family is very 00:07:21.57\00:07:23.84 important to us, certainly 00:07:23.84\00:07:26.57 important to me and my own 00:07:26.57\00:07:29.58 family, my children, my wife, 00:07:29.58\00:07:33.15 are very key in my life. 00:07:33.15\00:07:34.82 I really love them. 00:07:34.82\00:07:36.32 I love my wife and my children 00:07:36.32\00:07:38.22 and I would like to make sure 00:07:38.22\00:07:40.06 that I am always in their lives. 00:07:40.06\00:07:42.06 I played basketball. 00:07:42.92\00:07:44.23 I played basketball in 00:07:44.23\00:07:45.79 high school. 00:07:45.79\00:07:46.90 I went to an Adventist school 00:07:46.90\00:07:48.50 called Kamagambo High School, 00:07:48.50\00:07:50.60 and I played basketball there. 00:07:50.60\00:07:52.20 I would like to believe that I 00:07:53.37\00:07:54.87 was a very good basketballer, 00:07:54.87\00:07:57.11 but I didn't go as far as 00:07:57.11\00:07:59.11 perhaps Ramogi is now headed, 00:07:59.11\00:08:02.31 where he is headed. 00:08:02.31\00:08:03.41 I know my brother did play 00:08:03.41\00:08:05.28 college basketball and he was 00:08:05.28\00:08:06.61 pretty good. 00:08:06.61\00:08:07.75 He was better than me, but I 00:08:08.38\00:08:09.88 would like to believe that I'm 00:08:09.88\00:08:11.02 better than him. 00:08:11.02\00:08:11.89 So you know, basketball has 00:08:11.89\00:08:14.66 become now part of our lives as 00:08:14.66\00:08:17.39 Ramogi starts to play 00:08:17.39\00:08:18.73 basketball, travelling with him, 00:08:18.73\00:08:21.16 watching his games. 00:08:21.16\00:08:22.63 My younger son 00:08:23.47\00:08:24.70 plays basketball. 00:08:24.70\00:08:26.27 My daughter, she struggles 00:08:26.27\00:08:29.54 whether she wants to play 00:08:29.54\00:08:30.87 basketball or she loves 00:08:30.87\00:08:32.14 volleyball, so she's in between. 00:08:32.14\00:08:34.11 So in our family, basketball is 00:08:34.11\00:08:36.21 definitely something that, you 00:08:36.21\00:08:38.71 know, brings us all together. 00:08:38.71\00:08:40.65 >> Ramogi, can you tell us about 00:08:42.78\00:08:44.69 your accomplishments in 00:08:44.69\00:08:46.15 basketball? 00:08:46.15\00:08:47.16 [RAMOGI] Yeah, so just recently 00:08:47.16\00:08:48.16 we won the provincial 00:08:48.16\00:08:49.46 championship for my high school 00:08:49.46\00:08:51.03 at St. Paul's and I also got the 00:08:51.03\00:08:53.70 MVP and all-star for that, for 00:08:53.70\00:08:56.80 the game and the whole season. 00:08:56.80\00:08:58.60 I also got Player of the Year 00:08:59.10\00:09:00.27 award for that season, for all 00:09:00.27\00:09:02.24 of Manitoba. 00:09:02.24\00:09:03.30 And then also we won last year, 00:09:03.71\00:09:06.78 too, provincial champions again. 00:09:06.78\00:09:09.38 That's the game I did not play 00:09:09.38\00:09:10.91 because it was on Saturday and 00:09:10.91\00:09:13.92 the timing and all that just did 00:09:13.92\00:09:15.78 not work out, so... 00:09:15.78\00:09:17.29 I was a bit sad to not play in 00:09:18.59\00:09:20.96 that game, but I'm glad that 00:09:20.96\00:09:22.19 we won. 00:09:22.19\00:09:23.12 And also I was selected for Team 00:09:23.89\00:09:26.53 Canada last year, U17, but I 00:09:26.53\00:09:29.80 didn't really make the team 00:09:29.80\00:09:31.07 because of the fact that most of 00:09:31.07\00:09:32.37 the games are on Saturday. 00:09:32.37\00:09:33.64 But if that was not the case, I 00:09:34.50\00:09:35.97 would have played for last year 00:09:35.97\00:09:38.27 in Spain and this year I also 00:09:38.27\00:09:40.31 got selected for U19, which was 00:09:40.31\00:09:42.24 two years up. 00:09:42.24\00:09:43.28 Sadly I got cut, but it's-- it 00:09:43.68\00:09:46.51 was a great experience to be 00:09:46.51\00:09:47.92 able to play against players 00:09:47.92\00:09:49.48 that were going into D1 colleges 00:09:49.48\00:09:52.49 right after. 00:09:52.49\00:09:53.36 Also having, like, NBA talent in 00:09:53.36\00:09:55.49 that realm, too. 00:09:55.49\00:09:56.76 So it was quite interesting, 00:09:56.76\00:09:58.49 so... 00:09:58.49\00:09:59.23 I've been blessed over the past 00:09:59.69\00:10:01.46 couple of years basketball-wise, 00:10:01.46\00:10:02.93 yeah. 00:10:02.93\00:10:03.67 [RENÉ] That must've been quite a 00:10:04.17\00:10:05.17 challenge for you, playing with 00:10:05.17\00:10:07.67 two levels higher. 00:10:07.67\00:10:08.74 You said U19. 00:10:08.74\00:10:10.74 So that must have been quite 00:10:10.74\00:10:12.17 challenging for you. 00:10:12.17\00:10:13.44 >> Yeah. 00:10:13.44\00:10:14.24 Mentally, physically, they're a 00:10:14.24\00:10:16.78 lot bigger, a lot stronger 00:10:16.78\00:10:18.01 than me. 00:10:18.01\00:10:18.88 And being able to hold my own 00:10:18.88\00:10:20.58 was quite interesting. 00:10:20.58\00:10:22.12 And the fact that I actually 00:10:22.12\00:10:23.12 couldn't hold my own in that 00:10:23.12\00:10:25.49 environment. 00:10:25.49\00:10:26.49 >> So it's very demanding 00:10:27.29\00:10:29.09 on you. 00:10:29.09\00:10:30.03 Do you enjoy the game? 00:10:30.03\00:10:31.46 [RAMOGI] Oh, I love the game. 00:10:31.86\00:10:32.89 I love playing it, I love being 00:10:32.89\00:10:35.46 around it, I love talking it. 00:10:35.46\00:10:37.67 I love everything in that 00:10:37.67\00:10:39.23 aspect. 00:10:39.23\00:10:40.00 Like, there's a lot of things 00:10:40.00\00:10:43.74 that people would say that would 00:10:43.74\00:10:46.98 not allow me to enjoy the game, 00:10:46.98\00:10:49.44 but at the end of the day, it's 00:10:49.44\00:10:51.41 one of the things that clears my 00:10:51.41\00:10:53.31 head, it's one of the things 00:10:53.31\00:10:54.48 that allows me peace within all 00:10:54.48\00:10:58.25 the destruction and stuff in 00:10:58.25\00:10:59.75 this world. 00:10:59.75\00:11:00.82 So I really enjoy the game. 00:11:01.22\00:11:02.86 [RENÉ] So you're playing it to 00:11:03.79\00:11:04.93 de-stress too, and you're having 00:11:04.93\00:11:06.43 fun at the same time. 00:11:06.43\00:11:07.66 [RAMOGI] Mm-hm. 00:11:07.66\00:11:08.66 It's more like a two-in-one 00:11:09.23\00:11:10.60 thing. 00:11:10.60\00:11:11.17 So yeah, I really enjoy it. 00:11:11.27\00:11:12.97 >> Ramogi, you mentioned that 00:11:14.00\00:11:15.90 faith is critical to your 00:11:15.90\00:11:17.77 identity. 00:11:17.77\00:11:18.77 Are there any Bible characters 00:11:19.41\00:11:21.38 that you can identify with? 00:11:21.38\00:11:23.58 >> Yeah, the three Hebrew boys 00:11:23.58\00:11:25.75 my dad mentions to you. 00:11:25.75\00:11:27.35 I do relate with them because 00:11:27.35\00:11:29.52 they, like me, have been thrown 00:11:29.52\00:11:32.05 into fire because of the stuff 00:11:32.05\00:11:35.09 that they did. 00:11:35.09\00:11:36.76 They did not bow down and 00:11:36.76\00:11:38.03 worship the idol. 00:11:38.03\00:11:39.29 I did not play on Saturday. 00:11:39.29\00:11:41.16 I was put in the situation where 00:11:41.16\00:11:43.40 I had to choose between faith or 00:11:43.40\00:11:44.97 basketball and... 00:11:44.97\00:11:46.47 ...I feel like they have a lot 00:11:47.64\00:11:50.67 in common with what I?done. 00:11:50.67\00:11:52.31 Just not to their severity of 00:11:53.54\00:11:57.01 the situation, but for me it's-- 00:11:57.01\00:11:59.78 I feel like it's similar. 00:11:59.78\00:12:01.08 >> My son identifies with these 00:12:03.49\00:12:06.39 three characters Shadrach, 00:12:06.39\00:12:08.12 Meshach, and Abednego, perhaps 00:12:08.12\00:12:10.39 mostly because I talk about it 00:12:10.39\00:12:12.63 quite a bit. 00:12:12.63\00:12:13.66 And also because I see his life 00:12:13.93\00:12:18.87 mirroring the same kind of 00:12:18.87\00:12:20.37 situation. 00:12:20.37\00:12:21.60 But also the reason why I talk 00:12:22.17\00:12:23.77 about it is because my mother 00:12:23.77\00:12:25.77 talked to us about it, talked to 00:12:25.77\00:12:27.58 me specifically about it, and 00:12:27.58\00:12:29.91 she didn't-- not lose or she did 00:12:29.91\00:12:33.38 not miss a chance every time to 00:12:33.38\00:12:36.42 let us know that times are gonna 00:12:36.42\00:12:38.79 be hard and there are times that 00:12:38.79\00:12:40.79 you're gonna be tested and there 00:12:40.79\00:12:42.62 are times that you're gonna be 00:12:42.62\00:12:44.23 facing somewhere a fiery furnace 00:12:44.23\00:12:47.56 And that could be in different 00:12:47.56\00:12:50.63 kind of situations. 00:12:50.63\00:12:54.07 It may not be a fire, but it 00:12:54.07\00:12:56.14 might be your job, it might be 00:12:56.14\00:12:58.14 your career, it might be 00:12:58.14\00:12:59.77 something that you have to 00:12:59.77\00:13:01.18 choose between serving God and 00:13:01.18\00:13:04.05 serving man or something else, 00:13:04.05\00:13:06.92 whatever it is. 00:13:06.92\00:13:07.92 Ramogi has an important decision 00:13:08.22\00:13:10.45 to make in his life as he 00:13:10.45\00:13:12.05 continues to play basketball. 00:13:12.05\00:13:13.82 There are decisions that we will 00:13:14.29\00:13:16.09 have to make because some of 00:13:16.09\00:13:18.99 these games are played on the 00:13:18.99\00:13:20.43 Sabbath. 00:13:20.43\00:13:21.23 Will he play on the Sabbath? 00:13:21.60\00:13:23.73 That will be a decision that he 00:13:23.73\00:13:24.97 will have to make. 00:13:24.97\00:13:26.20 And prayerfully we will consider 00:13:26.67\00:13:28.87 this with, you know, praying for 00:13:28.87\00:13:30.67 him, there are a lot of people 00:13:30.67\00:13:32.11 who are praying for him to make 00:13:32.11\00:13:33.58 this decision, to make the right 00:13:33.58\00:13:34.81 decision. 00:13:34.81\00:13:35.81 And so just like Shadrach, 00:13:36.08\00:13:37.41 Meshach, and Abednego, who were 00:13:37.41\00:13:40.08 put in a position where they had 00:13:40.08\00:13:42.35 to make a choice, but they were 00:13:42.35\00:13:44.42 more resolute. 00:13:44.42\00:13:45.92 They talked to the king with a 00:13:45.92\00:13:48.49 lot of respect, but they were 00:13:48.49\00:13:50.29 more resolved. 00:13:50.29\00:13:51.26 They said, "Oh, King, we don't 00:13:51.26\00:13:53.56 have to, you know, argue about 00:13:53.56\00:13:55.56 this matter with you. 00:13:55.56\00:13:56.87 We are decided. 00:13:57.50\00:13:59.13 It is not a matter of us arguing 00:13:59.13\00:14:01.77 within our minds, whether 00:14:01.77\00:14:03.27 negotiating within our minds 00:14:03.27\00:14:05.24 this is resolve." 00:14:05.24\00:14:06.78 So I pray that the Lord will 00:14:06.78\00:14:08.51 impress upon Ramogi to be just 00:14:08.51\00:14:10.88 like Shadrach, Meshach, and 00:14:10.88\00:14:12.51 Abednego, having resolutely made 00:14:12.51\00:14:15.88 that decision that they will not 00:14:15.88\00:14:17.95 bow down, but they will 00:14:17.95\00:14:19.79 serve God. 00:14:19.79\00:14:20.79 I had to make that decision 00:14:21.59\00:14:24.06 about Sabbath many different 00:14:24.06\00:14:25.93 times. 00:14:25.93\00:14:26.83 One that I can remember right 00:14:27.30\00:14:28.63 now is about my job. 00:14:28.63\00:14:31.27 I had to give up my job because 00:14:31.27\00:14:33.00 of the Sabbath. 00:14:33.00\00:14:34.00 I had a boss who, first of all, 00:14:34.87\00:14:37.71 when I got into this company, I 00:14:37.71\00:14:40.01 was not necessarily working on 00:14:40.01\00:14:42.01 the Sabbath, I would work after 00:14:42.01\00:14:44.41 the Sabbath. 00:14:44.41\00:14:45.81 I would work all the Sundays 00:14:45.81\00:14:47.65 because I was available just 00:14:47.65\00:14:49.18 because I needed the Sabbath. 00:14:49.18\00:14:51.45 And at some point a new boss 00:14:51.45\00:14:54.02 came in. 00:14:54.02\00:14:55.09 And when this new boss came in, 00:14:55.09\00:14:56.76 he asked me why I'm not working 00:14:56.76\00:14:59.26 those hours. 00:14:59.26\00:15:00.56 And I did explain to him that 00:15:00.56\00:15:03.30 this was something that we had 00:15:03.30\00:15:05.47 made an arrangement with the, 00:15:05.47\00:15:08.10 you know, previous 00:15:08.10\00:15:08.94 administrator. 00:15:08.94\00:15:10.21 But he made the decision that we 00:15:10.21\00:15:12.07 are-- I'm gonna have to work on 00:15:12.07\00:15:13.74 those hours and I said no. 00:15:13.74\00:15:15.98 And he gave me some time. 00:15:15.98\00:15:17.31 He said, "I'm gonna give you two 00:15:17.31\00:15:18.48 weeks to think about it." 00:15:18.48\00:15:20.28 And I told him, "I don't need 00:15:20.28\00:15:22.58 two weeks. 00:15:22.58\00:15:23.59 This is a decision that had been 00:15:23.59\00:15:24.99 made long time ago before I even 00:15:24.99\00:15:26.82 came to this company." 00:15:26.82\00:15:28.42 But he went ahead and just told 00:15:28.42\00:15:29.79 me, "You go to think about it." 00:15:29.79\00:15:31.39 So a week after he comes to me 00:15:31.73\00:15:34.10 and asks me, "Have you made this 00:15:34.10\00:15:36.00 decision yet? 00:15:36.00\00:15:37.37 Is there anything that you have 00:15:37.37\00:15:38.77 decided?" and I said "This 00:15:38.77\00:15:40.40 decision had been made. 00:15:40.40\00:15:42.27 I am not thinking about it." 00:15:42.27\00:15:43.84 And he told me, "Whichever way, 00:15:44.41\00:15:46.11 I still give you another week." 00:15:46.11\00:15:48.01 That week rolls in and he asks 00:15:48.01\00:15:50.38 me the last day, he said, he 00:15:50.38\00:15:51.91 comes to me and he asks me, 00:15:51.91\00:15:53.48 "This is the last day, what are 00:15:53.48\00:15:54.65 you gonna to do?" and I said, 00:15:54.65\00:15:57.02 "I'm ready to go now if you want 00:15:57.02\00:15:59.25 me to go, but the decision was 00:15:59.25\00:16:01.32 made already." 00:16:01.32\00:16:02.62 So he told me, "It's all up 00:16:02.62\00:16:05.56 to you." 00:16:05.56\00:16:06.33 I said, "Well, so if you want me 00:16:06.33\00:16:08.40 to go, I can go now, or I can 00:16:08.40\00:16:10.47 finish my shift and then go." 00:16:10.47\00:16:13.03 And he told me, "It's all up 00:16:13.03\00:16:14.14 to you." 00:16:14.14\00:16:15.10 And then I finished my shift and 00:16:15.10\00:16:17.27 I walked out that job. 00:16:17.27\00:16:19.27 I wrapped up everything, 00:16:19.27\00:16:21.21 balanced all the accounts, 00:16:21.21\00:16:22.84 and I walked out of that job 00:16:22.84\00:16:24.55 and never turned back. 00:16:24.55\00:16:26.31 And so, yes, I have gone through 00:16:26.31\00:16:27.98 this and I believe that many 00:16:27.98\00:16:30.09 Christian, Sabbath-keeping 00:16:30.09\00:16:31.75 Christians who are facing such 00:16:31.75\00:16:33.39 kind of things, and Ramogi will 00:16:33.39\00:16:35.42 face it, too. 00:16:35.42\00:16:36.46 [MIKE] So you got conflicting 00:16:37.56\00:16:40.33 loves going on in your life. 00:16:40.33\00:16:41.63 You love your family, you love 00:16:41.63\00:16:43.37 your church, your faith, you 00:16:43.37\00:16:45.37 love God, and you love 00:16:45.37\00:16:46.57 basketball. 00:16:46.57\00:16:47.57 How does that work? 00:16:49.07\00:16:50.01 What does that look like? 00:16:50.01\00:16:51.14 If you were asked, how would you 00:16:51.14\00:16:53.38 define the word, "love," and 00:16:53.38\00:16:55.91 what does that look like 00:16:55.91\00:16:56.85 in action? 00:16:56.85\00:16:57.85 [RAMOGI] Yeah, that's a tough 00:16:58.51\00:17:00.05 question, but... 00:17:00.05\00:17:01.05 ...I'd say sacrifice 00:17:02.22\00:17:04.49 because for all of those things, 00:17:04.49\00:17:05.95 I had to sacrifice something. 00:17:05.95\00:17:07.82 For my family I had to sacrifice 00:17:07.82\00:17:09.16 my time, for basketball I had to 00:17:09.16\00:17:11.23 sacrifice my physicality, my 00:17:11.23\00:17:13.23 mental strength. 00:17:13.23\00:17:14.56 For God I to have to sacrifice 00:17:15.33\00:17:17.20 the world. 00:17:17.20\00:17:18.20 There's so many things in this 00:17:18.20\00:17:19.47 world that are attractive, but I 00:17:19.47\00:17:23.74 have to sacrifice that to know 00:17:23.74\00:17:25.71 that because God is the one 00:17:25.71\00:17:28.91 thing in my life that is really 00:17:28.91\00:17:31.08 the most important, towering 00:17:31.08\00:17:32.71 over all of the stuff that you 00:17:32.71\00:17:34.45 just mentioned. 00:17:34.45\00:17:35.62 So sacrifice is the most 00:17:35.62\00:17:37.22 important, for love. 00:17:37.22\00:17:39.62 >> I really like that answer. 00:17:39.62\00:17:41.36 Sacrifice is really dying to 00:17:42.16\00:17:44.46 self, isn't it? 00:17:44.46\00:17:45.66 And putting that as number one. 00:17:45.93\00:17:47.86 I like the fact that you put God 00:17:48.33\00:17:49.56 in the centre spot, right, like 00:17:49.56\00:17:51.83 in the top position because 00:17:51.83\00:17:53.54 we're talking about eternity 00:17:53.54\00:17:55.54 and... 00:17:55.54\00:17:56.60 ...good answer. 00:17:57.47\00:17:58.44 Ramogi, how much do you 00:17:59.17\00:18:00.94 sacrifice of your time when 00:18:00.94\00:18:03.45 you're not at school to play 00:18:03.45\00:18:04.98 basketball? 00:18:04.98\00:18:06.28 [RAMOGI] It's a lot of hours. 00:18:06.28\00:18:07.92 The math is too hard for me to 00:18:07.92\00:18:09.48 do in my head so I'll just think 00:18:09.48\00:18:11.82 about it in a day. 00:18:11.82\00:18:13.02 So I play Sunday to Friday and 00:18:13.62\00:18:18.73 the summer, I'm normally playing 00:18:18.73\00:18:20.06 by myself so I'm out in the 00:18:20.06\00:18:21.33 driveway, so I would probably do 00:18:21.33\00:18:23.70 one hour in, one hour inside, 00:18:23.70\00:18:26.40 one hour back again, one hour 00:18:26.40\00:18:27.97 inside. 00:18:27.97\00:18:28.97 So I'd say, like, half my day 00:18:28.97\00:18:30.47 I'm just spending playing 00:18:30.47\00:18:31.51 basketball outside and that's 00:18:31.51\00:18:33.98 for six days in the week. 00:18:33.98\00:18:35.78 So add that up for three months. 00:18:36.34\00:18:39.35 [MIKE] Yeah. 00:18:39.35\00:18:39.98 >> It's significant amount of 00:18:40.05\00:18:41.05 basketball that I'm playing. 00:18:41.05\00:18:42.42 >> So there's a lot of energy 00:18:42.42\00:18:43.69 being expended there. 00:18:43.69\00:18:45.05 I'm guessing the time that 00:18:45.05\00:18:46.35 you're inside you're eating. 00:18:46.35\00:18:47.82 [RAMOGI] Mm-hm. 00:18:47.82\00:18:48.46 [laughter] 00:18:48.46\00:18:49.76 >> You put a lot of time. 00:18:49.76\00:18:50.83 [RAMOGI] Yeah. 00:18:50.83\00:18:51.49 >> And it's a big bill for your 00:18:51.49\00:18:52.43 parents, right? 00:18:52.43\00:18:53.33 >> Oh, yeah, significantly it 00:18:53.33\00:18:55.60 is, yeah. 00:18:55.60\00:18:56.60 >> What about cross-training, 00:18:56.60\00:18:57.93 Ramogi? 00:18:57.93\00:18:58.60 Do you spend a lot of time in 00:18:58.60\00:18:59.77 the gym? 00:18:59.77\00:19:00.87 >> Not as of recent, but I know 00:19:01.87\00:19:05.14 that I'm gonna have to do a lot 00:19:05.14\00:19:06.34 more of lifting during the 00:19:06.34\00:19:08.51 summer and do a lot more running 00:19:08.51\00:19:11.65 to help keep my stamina up. 00:19:11.65\00:19:14.08 Because that's the one thing 00:19:14.08\00:19:15.05 that coaches enjoy about me is 00:19:15.05\00:19:16.75 the fact that I can just run 00:19:16.75\00:19:18.15 back and forth forever, so... 00:19:18.15\00:19:20.76 That's-- I need to start doing 00:19:21.59\00:19:23.39 that in the next couple weeks, 00:19:23.39\00:19:26.03 next couple of months. 00:19:26.03\00:19:27.10 So yeah. 00:19:27.10\00:19:28.06 >> Ramogi, earlier on you 00:19:29.63\00:19:31.03 mentioned the three Hebrew boys 00:19:31.03\00:19:33.30 in the Bible and it reminds me 00:19:33.30\00:19:36.57 of the rich young ruler who came 00:19:36.57\00:19:38.81 to Jesus wanting eternal life 00:19:38.81\00:19:41.81 and Jesus offered him a place on 00:19:41.81\00:19:44.81 His team of disciples. 00:19:44.81\00:19:46.75 But Jesus told him that he had 00:19:46.75\00:19:48.55 to sell everything he had, take 00:19:48.55\00:19:51.82 that money and give it to the 00:19:51.82\00:19:53.82 poor and then he would have a 00:19:53.82\00:19:56.59 place on His team of disciples. 00:19:56.59\00:19:59.06 Can you relate to this story? 00:19:59.06\00:20:01.63 [RAMOGI] I mean, not to the 00:20:02.40\00:20:04.50 money-wise, but I can relate to 00:20:04.50\00:20:06.60 this story as giving up 00:20:06.60\00:20:08.80 basketball, because I'll look at 00:20:08.80\00:20:12.31 that and people will say that 00:20:12.31\00:20:13.51 that's easy. 00:20:13.51\00:20:14.34 Just give it up because you 00:20:14.34\00:20:15.34 know you have eternal life. 00:20:15.34\00:20:16.68 But being in that position of 00:20:16.68\00:20:18.95 having both, it's kind of a hard 00:20:18.95\00:20:22.55 thing to weigh out your 00:20:22.55\00:20:23.65 decisions because you have all 00:20:23.65\00:20:25.25 this, all these personal things 00:20:25.25\00:20:27.02 that you have, giving that away 00:20:27.02\00:20:29.29 to something in the unknown. 00:20:29.29\00:20:32.19 As humans, we don't really think 00:20:32.19\00:20:35.03 of going into something unknown 00:20:35.03\00:20:37.63 unless you're an adventurist or 00:20:37.63\00:20:40.27 crazy, might I say it. 00:20:40.27\00:20:41.70 But it's kind of hard to be able 00:20:41.70\00:20:44.21 to put someone in a position to 00:20:44.21\00:20:45.77 be able to put-- give everything 00:20:45.77\00:20:47.71 away to go follow something that 00:20:47.71\00:20:49.44 you don't really know. 00:20:49.44\00:20:50.78 So yeah, it's a hard thing for 00:20:51.01\00:20:55.18 people who have to go through 00:20:55.18\00:20:56.22 that and since I'm have to go 00:20:56.22\00:20:58.59 through it, it's kind of hard 00:20:58.59\00:21:00.66 for me, too. 00:21:00.66\00:21:01.66 >> And I guess the more you 00:21:03.19\00:21:04.79 accomplish or the more you have, 00:21:04.79\00:21:07.36 it doesn't matter, like you 00:21:07.36\00:21:08.53 said, it doesn't have to be 00:21:08.53\00:21:09.60 money, but it could just be a 00:21:09.60\00:21:11.77 talent like you have in 00:21:11.77\00:21:13.27 basketball and you have all 00:21:13.27\00:21:14.67 these accomplishments and... 00:21:14.67\00:21:17.14 ...I guess the more famous you 00:21:18.17\00:21:19.91 become, the more difficult it 00:21:19.91\00:21:22.18 is, too, to give that all up. 00:21:22.18\00:21:24.41 >> Yeah, it is. 00:21:24.41\00:21:25.95 It really is. 00:21:25.95\00:21:27.15 >> My fears as a father is that 00:21:29.72\00:21:32.52 perhaps Ramogi will come to this 00:21:32.52\00:21:34.86 crossroad and choose... 00:21:34.86\00:21:36.93 ...away from God. 00:21:37.79\00:21:39.33 And not just Ramogi, my other 00:21:39.73\00:21:41.93 kids, that they will choose a 00:21:41.93\00:21:43.63 path that would not please God. 00:21:43.63\00:21:46.07 And when I look at that, it 00:21:46.70\00:21:49.70 scares me, but I have no control 00:21:49.70\00:21:53.14 of their lives. 00:21:53.14\00:21:54.34 God has control of their lives. 00:21:55.01\00:21:56.85 And my fear also as a father and 00:21:57.35\00:22:00.25 as a husband, is that I'm gonna 00:22:00.25\00:22:02.68 have to deal with some of these 00:22:02.68\00:22:04.22 things and not knowing how to 00:22:04.22\00:22:07.19 deal with them. 00:22:07.19\00:22:08.29 So I really pray that the Lord 00:22:08.29\00:22:09.72 will give me the strength to 00:22:09.72\00:22:12.16 allow my children to make those 00:22:12.16\00:22:14.20 decisions while I pray for them. 00:22:14.20\00:22:17.20 And I know they are so many 00:22:17.63\00:22:18.67 people, so many people who are 00:22:18.67\00:22:20.60 praying for us, so many people 00:22:20.60\00:22:22.84 who are caring for us, so many 00:22:22.84\00:22:24.91 people who care for my family. 00:22:24.91\00:22:27.14 And I love that. 00:22:27.14\00:22:28.41 >> So as far as accomplishments 00:22:31.31\00:22:32.48 go, Ramogi, how far would you 00:22:32.48\00:22:34.52 like to go? 00:22:34.52\00:22:35.32 What would you like to 00:22:35.32\00:22:36.25 accomplish in terms of 00:22:36.25\00:22:37.42 basketball? 00:22:37.42\00:22:38.49 >> I want to go as far as to get 00:22:38.49\00:22:39.89 into the NBA Hall of Fame, 00:22:39.89\00:22:42.16 because some people want to cap 00:22:42.16\00:22:44.19 it off at D1 College or some 00:22:44.19\00:22:46.23 want to cap it off at playing in 00:22:46.23\00:22:47.66 the NBA. 00:22:47.66\00:22:48.56 I want to go as far as playing 00:22:48.56\00:22:49.93 with the greats and being in the 00:22:49.93\00:22:52.40 goal conversation of the greats. 00:22:52.40\00:22:54.47 And then again, I also want to 00:22:54.47\00:22:55.47 play the best that I could 00:22:55.47\00:22:56.54 possibly play. 00:22:56.54\00:22:57.67 And if that's to be able to get 00:22:58.17\00:22:59.41 into the NBA or play D1, then 00:22:59.41\00:23:01.28 that's what it is. 00:23:01.28\00:23:03.18 And I'm grateful that I can be 00:23:03.18\00:23:04.38 able to even say that as 00:23:04.38\00:23:08.05 a basketball player. 00:23:08.05\00:23:09.45 >> So, Ramogi, final question. 00:23:10.59\00:23:13.32 What are your dreams and what 00:23:13.32\00:23:15.56 would you like to accomplish 00:23:15.56\00:23:17.46 apart from basketball? 00:23:17.46\00:23:19.36 [RAMOGI] I just want to give a 00:23:20.03\00:23:21.40 positive influence into 00:23:21.40\00:23:22.83 the world. 00:23:22.83\00:23:23.50 The world, there's not a lot of 00:23:23.50\00:23:25.70 good people around that are 00:23:25.70\00:23:27.97 trying to have the best interest 00:23:27.97\00:23:30.57 for people. 00:23:30.57\00:23:31.77 I want to be able to make sure 00:23:32.21\00:23:33.48 that people have someone that 00:23:33.48\00:23:35.28 they can look up to that has a 00:23:35.28\00:23:36.85 good interest in what they want 00:23:36.85\00:23:38.95 in their life and show God in 00:23:38.95\00:23:41.32 the-- in that realm, too. 00:23:41.32\00:23:43.52 But also, aside from basketball, 00:23:44.02\00:23:45.65 I also want to become a doctor, 00:23:45.65\00:23:47.52 family doctor specifically, 00:23:47.52\00:23:48.96 because I enjoy all the 00:23:48.96\00:23:50.99 sciences. 00:23:50.99\00:23:51.99 I'm taking all the sciences 00:23:52.43\00:23:53.80 right now. 00:23:53.80\00:23:54.30 It's difficult, but I do enjoy 00:23:54.46\00:23:56.67 being able to understand the 00:23:56.67\00:23:59.20 human body because there's so 00:23:59.20\00:24:01.10 many interesting things 00:24:01.10\00:24:02.17 about it. 00:24:02.17\00:24:03.17 I just look at it and say that 00:24:04.51\00:24:06.41 how can something so small in 00:24:06.41\00:24:10.11 this earth that God created be 00:24:10.11\00:24:12.08 able to have all these different 00:24:12.08\00:24:13.45 functions, all these different 00:24:13.45\00:24:14.68 things a part of it. 00:24:14.68\00:24:15.85 And I see all these things about 00:24:15.85\00:24:19.42 the evolution and stuff like 00:24:19.42\00:24:20.52 that, I-- there's so many 00:24:20.52\00:24:22.22 questions that I can ask about 00:24:22.22\00:24:23.32 it and I just enjoy the fact 00:24:23.32\00:24:24.86 that I can ask those questions. 00:24:24.86\00:24:26.66 >> Ramogi, you are very wise for 00:24:27.60\00:24:30.83 your age and very calm and I 00:24:30.83\00:24:34.04 just enjoy talking to you. 00:24:34.04\00:24:35.67 Before we let you go, I wonder 00:24:35.67\00:24:37.91 if you could pray for 00:24:37.91\00:24:39.61 our viewers. 00:24:39.61\00:24:40.61 There may be someone who's 00:24:41.01\00:24:42.78 looking at their lives and 00:24:42.78\00:24:43.85 thinking, you know, God isn't 00:24:43.85\00:24:45.51 really relevant, He's not 00:24:45.51\00:24:47.18 personal in my life. 00:24:47.18\00:24:48.05 And maybe you could pray for 00:24:48.05\00:24:49.68 people like that, our viewers 00:24:49.68\00:24:51.82 who-- that they may get that 00:24:51.82\00:24:54.62 sense that God is relevant and 00:24:54.62\00:24:56.52 personally desires to be 00:24:56.52\00:24:58.26 involved in their life right
