I had lost weight, I was only

I had a lung abscess so was

hospitalized for that and then

ended up going to SickKids

right at the beginning of high

school, grade nine.

And that was a challenging year

because new school and I was in
00:02:51.80\00:02:56.44
the hospital for two weeks at

SickKids twice and spent my
00:02:57.94\00:03:00.91
14th birthday there.
00:03:00.91\00:03:02.64
And so that was kinda tough.

They didn't know what was going

on, they couldn't diagnose what

was going on, they did tons of
00:03:08.58\00:03:10.35
tests, they put me on prednisone

to stop the inflammation 'cause

clearly something was going on
00:03:15.26\00:03:16.69
in my lungs.

It was probably an autoimmune
00:03:18.13\00:03:21.06
response that was triggered
00:03:21.06\00:03:22.70
somehow, we don't know how,

where my body was attacking

my lungs.

And then when I was about 19...

...I had a respirologist at this

point, and I kind of wanted to

know the prognosis of how things

were gonna go, and up til this

serious because everyone seemed

concerned which caused a lot of

fear and, you know, anxiety

for me.

I didn't know what life was

gonna be like, but I knew it

And I'm like, "Well, what do you

"Well, you know, in a wheel

chair kind of thing."

So that was kind of a lot to

handle at that age when you're

just looking forward to life and

Although there was four flights

in my high school, of stairs.

It was a big, very old building,

so the ceilings were high.

And I remember thinking, "How am

I gonna go from gym in the

basement," which I couldn't do.

I didn't do gym, I just did the

health part 'cause I couldn't
00:05:37.17\00:05:39.47
run or, you know.
00:05:39.47\00:05:41.20
And then to go upstairs to art

class on the third floor was
00:05:43.30\00:05:44.94
like, it was really tough.
00:05:44.94\00:05:46.47
And-- but my mom would sometimes
00:05:46.47\00:05:49.31
or someone else would drive me
00:05:49.31\00:05:50.95
to school.
00:05:50.95\00:05:51.95
Sometimes I would walk.
00:05:51.95\00:05:53.68
But gradually things kind of
00:05:55.18\00:05:57.19
stabilized for a while which
00:05:57.19\00:05:58.99
was good.

So I was able to live life and

do okay.

I learned to be very careful and

figure out what I could and

couldn't do.

And I would just avoid things

that-- I knew I could never run
00:06:12.30\00:06:15.30
and, you know, do sports, but a
00:06:15.30\00:06:19.34
lot of people didn't actually
00:06:19.34\00:06:20.48
know that I was sick until
00:06:20.48\00:06:21.84
later on.
00:06:21.84\00:06:23.01
And then I was starting to get
00:06:23.01\00:06:24.35
more and more infections and
00:06:24.35\00:06:27.08
eventually in 2009, I got
00:06:27.08\00:06:32.09
really sick.
00:06:32.09\00:06:33.09
By this time, though, I had
00:06:33.09\00:06:34.32
actually, I had gotten married,
00:06:34.32\00:06:36.49
I had-- we had two children.
00:06:36.49\00:06:39.59
So God really blessed,
00:06:39.59\00:06:41.23
considering I was taking some
00:06:41.23\00:06:44.03
pretty powerful drugs.
00:06:44.03\00:06:46.03
I was-- they put me on
00:06:46.03\00:06:47.50
prednisone when I was 14, which
00:06:47.50\00:06:49.54
is a corticosteroid, to reduce
00:06:49.54\00:06:53.27
inflammation because that's the
00:06:53.27\00:06:54.84
inflammatory process was what
00:06:54.84\00:06:56.54
was causing all the damage in my
00:06:56.54\00:06:58.11
lungs, I was getting a lot of
00:06:58.11\00:06:59.85
scarring which caused me to not
00:06:59.85\00:07:03.25
be able to breathe.
00:07:03.25\00:07:04.39
So at this point I could-- my
00:07:04.82\00:07:07.22
body was learning to adapt.
00:07:07.22\00:07:09.39
But by the time it was 2009,
00:07:09.39\00:07:11.73
antibiotics a lot of the times
00:07:13.36\00:07:15.66
were not, the oral ones weren't
00:07:15.66\00:07:18.23
working, I had to have IV
00:07:18.23\00:07:19.87
antibiotics.
00:07:19.87\00:07:21.47
And unless you have to be,
00:07:22.54\00:07:25.94
unless you're hospitalized, you
00:07:25.94\00:07:27.01
have to have, like, a pack
00:07:27.01\00:07:28.71
around your waist, has the

little bag of the antibiotic and

you have a special line in your
00:07:32.71\00:07:34.68
arm and they just connect you up
00:07:34.68\00:07:36.22
and the pump automatically does
00:07:36.22\00:07:37.95
it so you can kind of live life.

But being on antibiotics, I
00:07:40.12\00:07:41.69
mean, if you've ever been on
00:07:41.69\00:07:42.96
them, it can make you really
00:07:42.96\00:07:44.46
tired and there's side effects
00:07:44.46\00:07:48.30
and so on.
00:07:48.30\00:07:48.86
So that was challenging.
00:07:48.86\00:07:50.70
And the puffers that I was on,
00:07:50.70\00:07:52.77
they were not always working as
00:07:52.77\00:07:55.20
much as they should or are
00:07:55.20\00:07:58.07
supposed to.

And I was also finding that the

medications were actually

causing more side effects.

I'm not sure why that is, but

it's probably 'cause my lungs
00:08:08.28\00:08:09.42
weren't, again, they weren't
00:08:09.42\00:08:12.39
functioning well.

So my lungs were at this point,

were about 25% of capacity and I
00:08:15.39\00:08:19.76
was on oxygen for 24/7 and also
00:08:19.76\00:08:23.30
they were suggesting that I get
00:08:23.30\00:08:25.43
a lung transplant.

very difficult time?

time at this point getting into

God's Word and really, you know,

praying together and

seeking God.

And she came over one day and

said to me, "You know, you
00:08:58.63\00:09:00.90
should ask if God is gonna let

you live or die."

And I was a little shocked and
00:09:03.91\00:09:05.21
taken back, I'll tell you.

And she said she had been

praying about it and, you know,

and how to, you know, support me

and talk to me.

And she said, "You know,

you're dying."

And of course I'm like, "No, I'm

not dying."

the sense that God wasn't gonna

let me die, but-- 'cause I'd

always sort of thought that.

But we did pray that God would

confirm it.

So the next day, I was on my own

and I prayed again...

...as I was praying, I heard

very distinctly, a distinct

scripture, I had read it before,

a father comes with his child,

he wants his child to be healed,

comes to Jesus and Jesus says...

And the father's crying and he

says, "I believe, Lord, help

thou mine unbelief!"

And after I said that, I heard,

And I was just amazed and I sort

to the dead and refers to things

So as far as God was concerned,

I had been praying for healing,

it was a done deal and I was

claiming His promises.

I had already seen a promise in

Psalms 30 and it said, "I cried

unto the Lord and Thou hast

healed me."

"I have healed you," which is in
00:11:23.58\00:11:25.35
the present tense.

So this verse explains that God,

you know, He doesn't live, you

know, in the present, the past,

And it was like God had

confirmed that He wanted me to

live, He planned for me to live,

He had something for me.

More than once, it was like

So that was extremely

encouraging and I needed every

speck of that encouragement

because when you can't breathe,

my husband was working full time

and eventually, I guess

September 11th, 2013, I believe,

he just had to quit his job to

stay home and help me because I

was on oxygen all the time

just, you know, to survive.

It was a very, very difficult

And I just heard in my spirit,

covered with leaves."

And I'm-- I was like, "Yes!

That's true!" and I'm like,

"Oh, wow!

This is God clearly talking to

me and encouraging me."

And I was thinking, "Well, maybe

He's gonna heal me in the

spring, this spring."

So as it turned out, my tree was

a very late bloomer and I kept

checking it as I'm driving by

and the tree, the leaves did

come out, but unfortunately my

health continued to decline.
