00:06:37.56\00:06:38.96 >> Well, I definitely remember 00:06:38.96\00:06:41.10 one occasion laying out in a 00:06:41.10\00:06:44.13 school field behind our house 00:06:44.13\00:06:46.10 and it was in the evening 00:06:46.10\00:06:47.87 time, I'm not sure if Darrell 00:06:47.87\00:06:49.14 was there that night or not... 00:06:49.14\00:06:50.41 >> And I'm surprised that, you 00:06:50.41\00:06:51.61 know, that you say it's one 00:06:51.61\00:06:52.87 experience, but obviously very 00:06:52.87\00:06:53.78 memorable to you. 00:06:53.78\00:06:54.88 >> But I remember just 00:06:54.88\00:06:56.18 looking up at the stars and 00:06:56.18\00:06:57.51 just contemplating eternity 00:06:57.51\00:06:58.98 and looking up and just 00:06:58.98\00:07:00.48 thinking, "Oh, what happens if 00:07:00.48\00:07:01.82 you get through a brick wall, 00:07:01.82\00:07:03.02 what's on the other side of 00:07:03.02\00:07:03.89 the brick wall?" 00:07:03.89\00:07:04.92 You know? 00:07:04.92\00:07:05.85 But the thought came to me 00:07:05.85\00:07:07.09 that night that, you know, 00:07:07.09\00:07:08.52 whoever is out there and at 00:07:08.52\00:07:10.19 that time I thought God flew 00:07:10.19\00:07:11.66 around in a UFO, and I thought 00:07:11.66\00:07:13.06 whoever it was that was out 00:07:13.06\00:07:14.76 there, he had to be kind, you 00:07:14.76\00:07:16.63 know, and I can't explain why 00:07:16.63\00:07:18.17 that thought came into my 00:07:18.17\00:07:19.53 mind, maybe I just felt so 00:07:19.53\00:07:21.10 insignificant, but whoever was 00:07:21.10\00:07:23.20 out there that that was God, 00:07:23.20\00:07:25.34 had to be kind and loving and 00:07:25.34\00:07:27.64 it's just a thought that just 00:07:27.64\00:07:28.91 followed me right into my 00:07:28.91\00:07:30.18 conversion experience later 00:07:30.18\00:07:31.51 years in life. 00:07:31.51\00:07:32.65 >> And that's why I mentioned 00:07:32.65\00:07:33.78 about being surprised about 00:07:33.78\00:07:35.15 the one time he can remember 00:07:35.15\00:07:36.55 that 'cause for me it seems 00:07:36.55\00:07:38.09 that from, you know, most of 00:07:38.09\00:07:40.02 my teen years, 12 to 18, many 00:07:40.02\00:07:42.96 times I remember the deep 00:07:42.96\00:07:45.19 existential thoughts, you 00:07:45.19\00:07:47.60 know, staring out the window 00:07:47.60\00:07:49.66 in my bedroom or laying under 00:07:49.66\00:07:51.23 the stars for hours and coming 00:07:51.23\00:07:53.40 to those same thoughts, you 00:07:53.40\00:07:54.97 know, is there a roof to the 00:07:54.97\00:07:57.87 space and what's out there? 00:07:57.87\00:08:00.41 Who's out there? Etcetera. 00:08:00.41\00:08:02.14 And these were, obviously in 00:08:02.14\00:08:03.88 my mind, our minds, you know, 00:08:03.88\00:08:05.51 the stirring of God's spirit 00:08:05.51\00:08:06.95 preparing us. 00:08:06.95\00:08:08.38 And I think of, you know, that 00:08:08.38\00:08:10.72 intrinsic reality with most 00:08:10.72\00:08:13.02 people, that there is these 00:08:13.02\00:08:14.82 inbred inner longings to find 00:08:14.82\00:08:17.49 something that satisfies us 00:08:17.49\00:08:19.89 and the things of this world 00:08:19.89\00:08:21.60 cannot satisfy and that's why 00:08:21.60\00:08:24.03 finding it in Jesus Christ is 00:08:24.03\00:08:26.43 the final experience of a 00:08:26.43\00:08:28.94 blessing for us. 00:08:28.94\00:08:30.61 >> But it's funny, as you look 00:08:30.61\00:08:31.87 back in retrospect, you see 00:08:31.87\00:08:33.04 these incidents where you know 00:08:33.04\00:08:34.31 the Holy Spirit was leading in 00:08:34.31\00:08:35.64 your lives because it led you 00:08:35.64\00:08:36.95 to a certain point in your 00:08:36.95\00:08:38.15 journey. 00:08:38.15\00:08:39.11 >> So there's this longing in 00:08:39.68\00:08:41.62 your hearts, before you became 00:08:41.62\00:08:43.08 a Christian, what were you 00:08:43.08\00:08:44.75 doing, what were you doing in 00:08:44.75\00:08:46.39 your lives? 00:08:46.39\00:08:47.69 >> Well, music was a big part 00:08:48.36\00:08:49.69 of our lives. 00:08:49.69\00:08:50.79 >> Yes, and, of course, when 00:08:50.79\00:08:52.06 Mom and Dad divorced, things 00:08:52.06\00:08:54.36 went south from there as young 00:08:54.36\00:08:57.20 people because you need that 00:08:57.20\00:08:58.97 father figure for young boys, 00:08:58.97\00:09:00.54 I would think, too, as well as 00:09:00.54\00:09:02.17 the mother and I think what my 00:09:02.17\00:09:03.47 mom had to go through trying 00:09:03.47\00:09:05.31 to keep five siblings together 00:09:05.31\00:09:07.11 in an experience where now 00:09:07.11\00:09:09.08 substance abuse, the music, 00:09:09.08\00:09:10.95 the whole... 00:09:10.95\00:09:12.38 >> But it was at that point 00:09:12.38\00:09:13.68 where we really started 00:09:13.68\00:09:14.82 getting into the music. 00:09:14.82\00:09:16.02 Yeah, 'cause we grew up in the 00:09:16.02\00:09:17.35 60's, late 60's and 70's, you 00:09:17.35\00:09:18.59 know, so the hippie generation 00:09:18.59\00:09:21.12 whatever you wanna call it, 00:09:21.12\00:09:22.62 but that's when we started 00:09:22.62\00:09:23.89 getting into music. 00:09:23.89\00:09:25.03 >> And I received my first 00:09:25.03\00:09:26.29 guitar, my first Les Paul 00:09:26.29\00:09:27.93 guitar when I was about 18 00:09:27.93\00:09:29.10 years of age. 00:09:29.10\00:09:30.33 >> Well, we wanted to play 00:09:30.33\00:09:31.57 drums, but my dad bought us a 00:09:31.57\00:09:32.63 guitar and just said, 00:09:32.63\00:09:33.84 "Well, try the guitar, you 00:09:33.84\00:09:34.97 "know, if that doesn't work 00:09:34.97\00:09:36.07 then we'll get you drums." 00:09:36.07\00:09:37.14 He knew what he was doing, 00:09:37.14\00:09:37.97 you know? 00:09:37.97\00:09:39.04 >> That guitar is not around 00:09:39.04\00:09:39.81 today, why is that? 00:09:39.81\00:09:40.84 >> We used to use it for a 00:09:40.84\00:09:41.61 toboggan, yeah. 00:09:41.61\00:09:43.01 We learned to play the guitar 00:09:43.01\00:09:44.11 then we used it for a toboggan 00:09:44.11\00:09:44.85 after that. 00:09:44.85\00:09:45.98 >> We'd throw the guitar in 00:09:45.98\00:09:47.08 its case down the hill and 00:09:47.08\00:09:48.28 we'd both jump on it and fly 00:09:48.28\00:09:49.38 down the rest of the hill on it. 00:09:49.38\00:09:50.62 [DAVID] We were only ten years 00:09:50.62\00:09:51.69 old, so... 00:09:51.69\00:09:52.75 >> It was probably a very nice 00:09:52.75\00:09:53.82 guitar back then to Mom and 00:09:53.82\00:09:54.96 Dad spend the money on, but, 00:09:54.96\00:09:56.29 you know, but years later we 00:09:56.29\00:09:58.03 found that personal desire to 00:09:58.03\00:10:00.96 play the guitar and from then 00:10:00.96\00:10:02.63 on we continued to advance, 00:10:02.63\00:10:04.87 quite rapidly, because when I 00:10:04.87\00:10:06.60 first began playing the guitar 00:10:06.60\00:10:09.10 with a real personal interest, 00:10:09.10\00:10:10.74 within two years I was playing 00:10:10.74\00:10:12.44 in a professional band and 00:10:12.44\00:10:14.61 travelling and doing the gigs, 00:10:14.61\00:10:16.34 as they call it. 00:10:16.34\00:10:18.01 And it was a learning 00:10:18.01\00:10:20.68 experience, but it was a self-- 00:10:20.68\00:10:22.88 experience of self-abuse and 00:10:22.88\00:10:24.59 self-destruction over a ten 00:10:24.59\00:10:26.09 year period. 00:10:26.09\00:10:27.32 >> But the music was a big 00:10:27.32\00:10:28.62 part of what we did before our 00:10:28.62\00:10:29.79 conversion experience. 00:10:29.79\00:10:31.33 >> So, David, did you join 00:10:31.33\00:10:33.33 Darrell on all these gigs? 00:10:33.33\00:10:35.33 >> No, no, Darrell was the 00:10:35.33\00:10:37.50 rock 'n roller, he was doing 00:10:37.50\00:10:39.53 his gigs and I was playing my 00:10:39.53\00:10:41.07 acoustic guitar, I liked it a 00:10:41.07\00:10:42.60 little more toned down and-- 00:10:42.60\00:10:44.77 But I have to be honest, when 00:10:44.77\00:10:46.34 he was doing his gigs 00:10:46.34\00:10:48.34 and they'd have their little 00:10:48.34\00:10:50.55 parties, first thing I would do 00:10:50.55\00:10:52.31 is go into the bathroom and 00:10:52.31\00:10:53.65 stick toilet paper in my ears 00:10:53.65\00:10:55.65 to deaden things a little bit. 00:10:55.65\00:10:57.15 [DARRELL] And then stick around 00:10:57.15\00:10:58.25 and enjoy the music, right? 00:10:58.25\00:10:59.42 >> Well, that's right, yeah. 00:10:59.42\00:11:00.56 Stick around and enjoy the 00:11:00.56\00:11:01.72 time, but maybe not the music, 00:11:01.72\00:11:03.12 but the party, you know. 00:11:03.12\00:11:04.83 >> Now it was very sordid 00:11:04.83\00:11:06.86 times, playing-- we were an 00:11:06.86\00:11:09.36 A circuit band. 00:11:09.36\00:11:10.93 In Alberta you have the A, B, 00:11:10.93\00:11:13.03 C circuit and the A circuits 00:11:13.03\00:11:14.84 were the tighter, well-paid 00:11:14.84\00:11:16.87 bands and we did those venues. 00:11:16.87\00:11:19.94 And it was a self-destructive 00:11:19.94\00:11:22.38 lifestyle, you know, up all 00:11:22.38\00:11:24.61 night, after the bar closes 00:11:24.61\00:11:26.72 and the party's over, the 00:11:26.72\00:11:28.25 party's just beginning 'cause 00:11:28.25\00:11:29.45 now you're over at somebody 00:11:29.45\00:11:30.75 else's place 'til sun-up and 00:11:30.75\00:11:31.95 it's sleeping all day and then 00:11:31.95\00:11:33.39 getting up and doing the same 00:11:33.39\00:11:34.46 thing over again. 00:11:34.46\00:11:35.69 And during those years I 00:11:35.69\00:11:37.49 started to begin to feel 00:11:37.49\00:11:39.23 somewhat like an animal in a 00:11:39.23\00:11:40.80 cage, not really sure how to 00:11:40.80\00:11:42.43 get out of this pit of the 00:11:42.43\00:11:45.03 drugs, the smoking. 00:11:45.03\00:11:46.47 Every time I would smoke 00:11:46.47\00:11:48.04 marijuana, pot, cannabis today, 00:11:48.04\00:11:50.17 you know, it was hurting my 00:11:50.17\00:11:52.21 lungs and it wasn't sitting 00:11:52.21\00:11:55.24 well with me and I just didn't 00:11:55.24\00:11:57.51 know where to turn to find the 00:11:57.51\00:12:00.85 victory until Jesus took 00:12:00.85\00:12:03.08 control of our lives and... 00:12:03.08\00:12:05.02 >> In a sense, even with all 00:12:05.02\00:12:06.42 that was happening back in 00:12:06.42\00:12:07.69 those days, it was still a 00:12:07.69\00:12:08.96 lonely time 'cause we weren't 00:12:08.96\00:12:10.16 finding the satisfaction that 00:12:10.16\00:12:11.43 we wanted and God was leading 00:12:11.43\00:12:12.79 us to a point in our lives... 00:12:12.79\00:12:14.60 Probably gonna come up in one 00:12:16.43\00:12:17.60 of your questions, you know. 00:12:17.60\00:12:18.73 >> So that's what I was gonna 00:12:18.73\00:12:19.70 ask right now, so what 00:12:19.70\00:12:21.00 circumstances led you 00:12:21.00\00:12:22.74 to the Christ? 00:12:22.74\00:12:24.61 >> OK, well, I think that 00:12:24.61\00:12:26.54 begins with me, in a sense, 00:12:26.54\00:12:28.04 because I was working at a 00:12:28.04\00:12:29.41 paper mill not too far from 00:12:29.41\00:12:30.98 here and one of my co-workers, 00:12:30.98\00:12:32.81 it was a night shift, and one 00:12:32.81\00:12:34.42 of my co-workers gave me a 00:12:34.42\00:12:36.02 book about Bible prophecy and 00:12:36.02\00:12:38.05 it was about the end of the 00:12:38.05\00:12:39.49 world, about war at the end of 00:12:39.49\00:12:40.99 the world and I read that book 00:12:40.99\00:12:42.42 in two nights. 00:12:42.42\00:12:43.76 And at the end of night number 00:12:43.76\00:12:44.99 two, there was a little appeal 00:12:44.99\00:12:46.36 at the back of the book, how 00:12:46.36\00:12:48.03 to give your heart to Jesus. 00:12:48.03\00:12:49.56 And I remember going home and 00:12:49.56\00:12:51.30 laying in bed and just saying, 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.70 "God, if You're real, You'll 00:12:53.70\00:12:55.44 make me a Christian." 00:12:55.44\00:12:57.31 And at that instant, I felt a 00:12:57.31\00:12:59.74 wave of, I can't even explain 00:12:59.74\00:13:02.51 it, just a wave of warmth, 00:13:02.51\00:13:04.25 emotion, I felt like I was 00:13:04.25\00:13:05.68 levitating on my bed. 00:13:05.68\00:13:07.58 And, you know, God was giving 00:13:07.58\00:13:09.18 me a physical experience 00:13:09.18\00:13:10.62 because at that point I was 00:13:10.62\00:13:12.09 heavily into drugs and I was 00:13:12.09\00:13:13.79 into physical experiences so 00:13:13.79\00:13:15.86 God gave me something that I 00:13:15.86\00:13:17.49 could relate to and I slept 00:13:17.49\00:13:19.26 like a baby that night, or 00:13:19.26\00:13:21.00 that morning, I came home 00:13:21.00\00:13:22.93 after a night shift, and when 00:13:22.93\00:13:24.37 I woke up, I knew something 00:13:24.37\00:13:25.80 had changed. 00:13:25.80\00:13:26.87 >> And you gave me a copy of 00:13:26.87\00:13:27.77 that book... 00:13:27.77\00:13:28.77 >> That's right, and so, 00:13:28.77\00:13:29.97 Darrell, take over from here 00:13:29.97\00:13:31.04 because I gave him the book. 00:13:31.04\00:13:32.04 >> And I just kinda shelved it 00:13:32.04\00:13:33.27 for a few days and he asked 00:13:33.27\00:13:34.78 me, "Did you read the book?" 00:13:34.78\00:13:36.28 And then he looked at me 00:13:36.28\00:13:37.65 straight, he says, "Darrell, 00:13:37.65\00:13:38.95 "if there's anything you need 00:13:38.95\00:13:40.05 "to do that's of a priority, 00:13:40.05\00:13:41.22 you need to read that book." 00:13:41.22\00:13:43.08 And I saw in him this sense of 00:13:43.08\00:13:44.85 seriousness, I thought, "OK, 00:13:44.85\00:13:46.42 "I'm gonna sit down, I'm gonna 00:13:46.42\00:13:47.82 read this book." 00:13:47.82\00:13:49.12 So I grabbed myself a half a 00:13:49.12\00:13:50.39 case of beer, a joint, rolled 00:13:50.39\00:13:52.89 up a joint, and began to start 00:13:52.89\00:13:55.13 reading this book and in two 00:13:55.13\00:13:56.80 nights I read the book also 00:13:56.80\00:13:58.53 and then at the end of the 00:13:58.53\00:13:59.93 book it asked to pray the 00:13:59.93\00:14:01.24 sinner's prayer and here I am, 00:14:01.24\00:14:03.10 stoned, intoxicated, but God 00:14:03.10\00:14:05.41 took me where I was, right, 00:14:05.41\00:14:07.18 and putting that burden on 00:14:07.18\00:14:09.04 my heart. 00:14:09.04\00:14:10.25 Within a week or so you 00:14:10.25\00:14:12.21 received a handbill to a 00:14:12.21\00:14:13.68 prophecy seminar. 00:14:13.68\00:14:15.05 >> About three weeks later, 00:14:15.05\00:14:16.22 the same fellow who gave me 00:14:16.22\00:14:17.55 the book at work gave me a 00:14:17.55\00:14:18.95 handbill that a prophecy 00:14:18.95\00:14:20.46 seminar was coming to Edmonton. 00:14:20.46\00:14:22.12 [DARRELL] During that time I was 00:14:22.76\00:14:24.69 in my home with some friends 00:14:24.69\00:14:27.03 and somebody pointed out a TV 00:14:27.03\00:14:28.40 commercial with these beasts 00:14:28.40\00:14:30.10 and this prophecy seminar 00:14:30.10\00:14:31.37 taking place at the Shaw 00:14:31.37\00:14:32.87 Convention Centre in Edmonton. 00:14:32.87\00:14:34.57 He showed me the brochure a 00:14:34.57\00:14:35.94 few days later and I said, 00:14:35.94\00:14:37.34 "Hey, that's the same thing 00:14:37.34\00:14:38.54 "that I saw happening-- that I 00:14:38.54\00:14:39.84 saw the commercial about." 00:14:39.84\00:14:41.34 And so we decided we were 00:14:41.34\00:14:43.14 going to attend that seminar 00:14:43.14\00:14:44.81 and I think it was the second 00:14:44.81\00:14:46.31 night that we attended, we 00:14:46.31\00:14:47.55 missed the first night. 00:14:47.55\00:14:49.18 For some reason I think God's 00:14:49.18\00:14:50.72 providence and hand was in 00:14:50.72\00:14:52.05 that, the second night that we 00:14:52.05\00:14:53.42 attended was on signs of the 00:14:53.42\00:14:55.19 times, and here was are, long 00:14:55.19\00:14:56.99 hair, you know... 00:14:56.99\00:14:58.89 >> But the interesting thing I 00:14:58.89\00:15:00.46 wanna point out is that God 00:15:00.46\00:15:01.76 used that book, even though 00:15:01.76\00:15:02.90 there was error in that book, 00:15:02.90\00:15:04.10 He used that book to lead us 00:15:04.10\00:15:05.33 to Christ... 00:15:05.33\00:15:06.30 >> Stir our hearts. 00:15:06.30\00:15:07.20 >> ...and then within three 00:15:07.20\00:15:08.27 weeks he was gonna bring us to 00:15:08.27\00:15:09.54 the-- a fuller understanding 00:15:09.54\00:15:10.77 of Bible truth. 00:15:10.77\00:15:11.94 >> And, yeah, within the four 00:15:11.94\00:15:13.58 or five week period of that 00:15:13.58\00:15:15.14 seminar, prophecy seminar, we 00:15:15.14\00:15:17.41 attended probably about 22 of 00:15:17.41\00:15:19.41 the 26 presentations and were 00:15:19.41\00:15:21.12 baptized shortly after and 00:15:21.12\00:15:23.08 that was the beginning, 00:15:23.08\00:15:24.09 the transition. 00:15:24.09\00:15:24.99 >> We were on fire. 00:15:24.99\00:15:26.12 >> It was, we went walking out 00:15:26.12\00:15:27.32 of the house every day with a 00:15:27.32\00:15:28.62 beer in your hand to a Bible 00:15:28.62\00:15:29.79 in your hand. 00:15:29.79\00:15:30.79 >> That's about it, yeah. 00:15:30.79\00:15:32.26 >> Wow, you replaced the beer 00:15:32.26\00:15:34.20 with a Bible. 00:15:34.20\00:15:35.33 [DAVID] Replaced the beer with 00:15:35.33\00:15:36.13 a Bible, yeah. 00:15:36.13\00:15:37.10 [DARRELL] Yeah, that's right. 00:15:37.10\00:15:37.93 >> So... 00:15:37.93\00:15:38.83 [DARRELL] There might be a 00:15:38.83\00:15:39.77 song I could write on that. 00:15:39.77\00:15:40.77 The Bible for the beer, the 00:15:40.77\00:15:41.70 Bible instead of a beer. 00:15:41.70\00:15:43.10 >> So then you now-- it must 00:15:43.10\00:15:46.41 have been a whirlwind tour 00:15:46.41\00:15:47.78 because now you're pastors 00:15:47.78\00:15:49.41 today, so what transpired? 00:15:49.41\00:15:52.81 What led you to become pastors? 00:15:52.81\00:15:54.38 >> K, well, you know, I think 00:15:54.38\00:15:55.72 that began with me as well and 00:15:55.72\00:15:57.25 I think-- we were baptized on 00:15:57.25\00:15:59.82 June 21st, 1986 and within 00:15:59.82\00:16:04.96 three months, by September, 00:16:04.96\00:16:06.76 somebody came to me and said, 00:16:06.76\00:16:08.13 "How would you like to go 00:16:08.13\00:16:09.46 "door-to-door with me and hand 00:16:09.46\00:16:10.43 out literature?" 00:16:10.43\00:16:11.83 And I was a little bit nervous 00:16:11.83\00:16:12.90 I said, "Let's give it a 00:16:12.90\00:16:14.00 try," you know. 00:16:14.00\00:16:15.20 So we loaded up a couple 00:16:15.20\00:16:16.37 backpacks with, you know, 00:16:16.37\00:16:17.64 Desire of the Ages and Signs 00:16:17.64\00:16:18.87 of the Times and I remember 00:16:18.87\00:16:21.41 going to the first door and 00:16:21.41\00:16:22.78 handing the lady a Signs of 00:16:22.78\00:16:24.21 the Times and she just gave me 00:16:24.21\00:16:25.75 this big smile, "Oh, thank you 00:16:25.75\00:16:27.02 very much, I look forward to 00:16:27.02\00:16:28.22 reading it." 00:16:28.22\00:16:29.32 And I just couldn't believe it 00:16:29.32\00:16:30.75 was that easy, you know, and 00:16:30.75\00:16:32.52 so I went to Darrell and I 00:16:32.52\00:16:33.79 said, you know, "We gotta-- 00:16:33.79\00:16:35.12 "you gotta come with me and try 00:16:35.12\00:16:36.16 this out," you know. 00:16:36.16\00:16:37.23 And the Lord just put a fire in 00:16:37.23\00:16:38.66 our hearts at that point so... 00:16:38.66\00:16:40.00 >> I would add, too, that, you 00:16:40.00\00:16:41.33 know, our conversion experience 00:16:41.33\00:16:42.73 I look at it as explosive, 00:16:42.73\00:16:46.00 very transitional. 00:16:46.00\00:16:47.74 We did something that might be 00:16:48.64\00:16:51.27 unique to some people, we went 00:16:51.27\00:16:53.11 to our local Christian book 00:16:53.11\00:16:54.78 store that our church promotes 00:16:54.78\00:16:56.75 and we purchased $1600 of 00:16:56.75\00:17:00.05 Bible commentary books, 00:17:00.05\00:17:02.32 devotional books, etcetera... 00:17:02.32\00:17:03.99 >> We walked in there with a 00:17:03.99\00:17:05.09 shopping cart and just loaded 00:17:05.09\00:17:05.95 it with books. 00:17:05.95\00:17:07.36 >> We did and we went home and 00:17:07.36\00:17:08.59 we filled up a shelf with all 00:17:08.59\00:17:10.16 these books and for two, three 00:17:10.16\00:17:11.59 years, this was our seminary 00:17:11.59\00:17:13.03 degree training, we sat down 00:17:13.03\00:17:14.50 and we read. 00:17:14.50\00:17:15.93 And I remember, exhausted with 00:17:15.93\00:17:18.30 study, day in, day out, using 00:17:18.30\00:17:20.34 my fingers as bookmarks in 00:17:20.34\00:17:21.94 different parts of the Bible 00:17:21.94\00:17:23.27 and these books and just 00:17:23.27\00:17:24.77 having to just close it up and 00:17:24.77\00:17:26.27 go for a walk and just assess 00:17:26.27\00:17:27.64 what it is I'm learning. 00:17:27.64\00:17:29.41 And after maybe two years of 00:17:29.41\00:17:31.78 this reading, we realized we 00:17:31.78\00:17:34.52 possess something incredibly 00:17:34.52\00:17:36.22 important and we can do no 00:17:36.22\00:17:37.79 other than share it with others. 00:17:37.79\00:17:39.82 And the next thing for us to 00:17:39.82\00:17:41.59 do was to go door-to-door and 00:17:41.59\00:17:42.99 start giving out material. 00:17:42.99\00:17:44.26 >> So while that was going on, 00:17:44.26\00:17:45.53 we started a door-to-door 00:17:45.53\00:17:46.66 ministry and... 00:17:46.66\00:17:47.60 >> A company at that. 00:17:47.60\00:17:48.53 >> Yeah, we had people 00:17:48.53\00:17:49.80 donating thousands of dollars 00:17:49.80\00:17:51.47 to our ministry and every 00:17:51.47\00:17:53.97 Sunday we'd get together with 00:17:53.97\00:17:55.44 probably 15 or 20 church 00:17:55.44\00:17:58.41 members and we'd be handing 00:17:58.41\00:17:59.81 out these books. 00:17:59.81\00:18:01.64 We covered an area of 00:18:01.64\00:18:03.18 Edmonton, Mill Woods, which was 00:18:03.18\00:18:04.81 about 50,000 people at the 00:18:04.81\00:18:06.15 time, took us about two years 00:18:06.15\00:18:07.48 to do it, but we covered 00:18:07.48\00:18:08.82 every home. 00:18:08.82\00:18:10.09 >> We gave out 10,000 books. 00:18:10.09\00:18:11.52 During that time, as a 00:18:11.52\00:18:14.79 musician, I was also a 00:18:14.79\00:18:16.66 furniture mover and, a little 00:18:16.66\00:18:18.89 guy, but we always loved that 00:18:18.89\00:18:20.90 heavy work and that hard work 00:18:20.90\00:18:23.37 and I made a pact with God, if 00:18:23.37\00:18:26.17 you will, that I'm gonna go 00:18:26.17\00:18:27.64 door-to-door with a bag full 00:18:27.64\00:18:29.04 of books and I'm gonna give 00:18:29.04\00:18:30.61 them away on a donation basis 00:18:30.61\00:18:32.47 and, Lord, if I can make 00:18:32.47\00:18:34.21 enough money to live off of, 00:18:34.21\00:18:36.21 going hour by hour, then I'm 00:18:36.21\00:18:38.05 going to move away from my 00:18:38.05\00:18:39.51 furniture moving business and 00:18:39.51\00:18:40.98 start our own company. 00:18:40.98\00:18:42.62 And we did that. 00:18:42.62\00:18:44.29 I went out, I think, with an 00:18:44.29\00:18:45.65 airline bag full of Great 00:18:45.65\00:18:47.19 Controversy's and just gave 00:18:47.19\00:18:48.56 them away on a donation basis, 00:18:48.56\00:18:49.82 came back with enough cash to 00:18:49.82\00:18:51.03 show me that I made about $20 00:18:51.03\00:18:52.26 an hour doing it, so we thought, 00:18:52.26\00:18:53.63 "Well, let's just start buying 00:18:53.63\00:18:55.56 pallets of books." 00:18:55.56\00:18:57.00 And we would order The Great 00:18:57.00\00:18:58.40 Controversy, Patriarchs and 00:18:58.40\00:18:59.83 Prophets, Ministry of Heal-- 00:18:59.83\00:19:01.50 Desire of Ages, and Ministry 00:19:01.50\00:19:04.31 of Healing, we would shrink 00:19:04.31\00:19:05.64 wrap them in blocks of books 00:19:05.64\00:19:06.98 and we started a company 00:19:06.98\00:19:08.54 called Better Living Books. 00:19:08.54\00:19:10.01 [DAVID] And it was so successful 00:19:10.01\00:19:12.21 that the conference, Alberta 00:19:12.21\00:19:14.58 conference, got wind of what 00:19:14.58\00:19:16.52 we were doing and asked us if 00:19:16.52\00:19:18.15 we would come and sell books 00:19:18.15\00:19:19.75 for the Home Health Education 00:19:19.75\00:19:21.06 Service. 00:19:21.06\00:19:21.96 [MIKE] And when I met you, the 00:19:22.79\00:19:24.73 two of you were Bible workers 00:19:24.73\00:19:27.93 and you were, you know, 00:19:27.93\00:19:29.83 bringing people into the 00:19:29.83\00:19:31.17 church and baptizing them. 00:19:31.17\00:19:32.60 [DAVID] We did colporteur work 00:19:32.60\00:19:34.17 for about 12 years and then 00:19:34.17\00:19:35.64 the conference invited us to 00:19:35.64\00:19:37.01 be Bible workers, conference 00:19:37.01\00:19:38.47 Bible workers, and we did that 00:19:38.47\00:19:40.34 for three years and then at 00:19:40.34\00:19:42.04 the end of the three years, 00:19:42.04\00:19:43.38 they asked us to take on full 00:19:43.38\00:19:44.85 pastoral duties and we've been 00:19:44.85\00:19:46.31 doing that for the last 22 00:19:46.31\00:19:47.78 years and during that time we 00:19:47.78\00:19:49.72 became evangelists. 00:19:49.72\00:19:51.29 And I think, between the two 00:19:51.29\00:19:52.72 of us, we've probably done 60 00:19:52.72\00:19:54.22 crusades, you know. 00:19:54.22\00:19:55.46 We don't call them crusades 00:19:55.46\00:19:56.66 anymore, prophecy seminars, 00:19:56.66\00:19:57.83 you know. 00:19:57.83\00:19:58.66 [REN巿 So, David and Darrell, 00:19:59.06\00:20:00.90 you're both ordained pastors, 00:20:00.90\00:20:02.60 but you're also musicians Him and giving 00:24:55.26\00:24:56.93 Him all our hearts... 00:24:56.93\00:24:58.03 [DARRELL] Amen. 00:24:58.03\00:24:59.19 >> ...and as we finish up our 00:24:59.19\00:25:01.46 program together, are this same kind of 00:25:08.87\00:25:10.47 peace that you have found? 00:25:10.47\00:25:11.87 >> Appreciate you giving a 00:25:11.87\00:25:13.01 chance to say something to-- 00:25:13.01\00:25:14.21 Go ahead. 00:25:14.21\00:25:15.54 >> Yeah, looking back at my 00:25:15.54\00:25:16.71 conversion, and Darrell's as 00:25:16.71\00:25:18.31 well, but, you know, it wasn't 00:25:18.31\00:25:19.91 til, for the first 28 years of 00:25:19.91\00:25:21.78 my life I was serving myself 00:25:21.78\00:25:23.85 and then for the last 35 years 00:25:23.85\00:25:25.29 I've had the opportunity to 00:25:25.29\00:25:26.25 serve Jesus. 00:25:26.25\00:25:27.79 And for the first half of my 00:25:27.79\00:25:30.13 non-Christian life, it's-- I 00:25:30.13\00:25:32.56 was looking for something that 00:25:32.56\00:25:34.50 I didn't have and I am so 00:25:34.50\00:25:36.67 thankful for the last 35 years 00:25:36.67\00:25:38.27 what I have. 00:25:38.27\00:25:39.97 So if there's anybody out 00:25:39.97\00:25:41.30 there that's still searching, 00:25:41.30\00:25:42.60 give your heart to Jesus and 00:25:42.60\00:25:44.24 you'll experience the same 00:25:44.24\00:25:45.51 thing. 00:25:45.51\00:25:46.57 >> Indeed, there are billions 00:25:46.57\00:25:48.78 that are searching today and 00:25:48.78\00:25:51.15 never in a time of earth's 00:25:51.15\00:25:52.61 history has Jesus and the 00:25:52.61\00:25:54.45 principles of God's word been 00:25:54.45\00:25:55.82 more relevant. 00:25:55.82\00:25:57.15 So we would just like to 00:25:57.15\00:25:58.75 encourage those who are 00:25:58.75\00:26:01.82 experiencing those existential 00:26:01.82\00:26:04.29 yearnings for something better. 00:26:04.29\00:26:06.63 You will be blessed, enriched, 00:26:06.63\00:26:08.90 transformed, empowered. 00:26:08.90\00:26:11.50 [MIKE] Amen. 00:26:11.50\00:26:13.64 [REN巿 So before we end, David, 00:26:13.64\00:26:14.97 I wonder if I could ask you to 00:26:14.97\00:26:16.67 please pray for us. 00:26:16.67\00:26:18.31 >> Loving Father, we want to 00:26:20.51\00:26:22.11 thank You so much for sending 00:26:22.11\00:26:23.88 Jesus to this world and giving 00:26:23.88\00:26:26.01 us the hope of eternal life. 00:26:26.01\00:26:27.85 As we look forward to the soon 00:26:27.85\00:26:29.65 return of Jesus, I just pray 00:26:29.65\00:26:31.39 that everyone who is listening 00:26:31.39\00:26:33.52 to my voice today, would just 00:26:33.52\00:26:35.16 have the same peace, the same 00:26:35.16\00:26:36.79 hope and the joy that Darrell 00:26:36.79\00:26:38.63 and I have experienced, the 00:26:38.63\00:26:40.66 way that You have led in our 00:26:40.66\00:26:42.06 lives so... 00:26:42.06\00:26:43.40 We just thank You so much for 00:26:43.40\00:26:45.00 all that You've done and just 00:26:45.00\00:26:46.63 pray a blessing upon everyone 00:26:46.63\00:26:48.50 here today that has joined us 00:26:48.50\00:26:50.01 this ever 00:26:57.11\00:26:58.28 heard somebody say, "You have 00:26:58.28\00:27:00.85 your truth and I have mine?" 00:27:00.85\00:27:03.25 Really? 00:27:03.25\00:27:04.69 People agree that it is not 00:27:04.69\00:27:06.65 wise to step out of the tenth 00:27:06.65\00:27:08.62 story window because gravity 00:27:08.62\00:27:11.36 is a truth that works the same 00:27:11.36\00:27:13.40 for all and it's also not safe 00:27:13.40\00:27:15.60 to eat certain types of 00:27:15.60\00:27:16.77 mushrooms. 00:27:16.77\00:27:18.27 >> These are truths that are 00:27:18.27\00:27:19.83 equally true for all. 00:27:19.83\00:27:21.50 >> In fact, science and 00:27:21.50\00:27:23.07 technology are built upon the 00:27:23.07\00:27:24.87 proposition that truth is 00:27:24.87\00:27:26.51 waiting out there to be 00:27:26.51\00:27:28.14 discovered. 00:27:28.14\00:27:29.34 >> Today's free offer, God's 00:27:30.15\00:27:32.75 Truth Can Change Your Life, 00:27:32.75\00:27:34.75 shows that there is truth, not 00:27:34.75\00:27:37.92 only in the material world, 00:27:37.92\00:27:39.89 but also in the social and 00:27:39.89\00:27:41.92 spiritual realms, truth that 00:27:41.92\00:27:44.19 is foundational to personal 00:27:44.19\00:27:46.49 and social health, truth that 00:27:46.49\00:27:48.93 our special guests, Darrell 00:27:48.93\00:27:50.93 and David Beaudoin, experienced 00:27:50.93\00:27:53.74 and that truth transformed 00:27:53.74\00:27:55.90 their lives. 00:27:55.90\00:27:57.57 It can transform your life, too. 00:27:57.57\00:28:01.01 >> Friends, we want you to 00:28:03.04\00:28:04.38 experience the truth that is 00:28:04.38\00:28:06.15 found in the words of Jesus 00:28:06.15\00:28:07.98 when He said, "It is written, 00:28:07.98\00:28:10.39 "'Man shall not live by bread 00:28:10.39\00:28:12.19 "'alone, but by every word 00:28:12.19\00:28:14.16 "'that proceeds out of the 00:28:14.16\00:28:15.66 mouth of God.'" 00:28:15.66\00:28:17.46 中 00:28:17.46\00:28:52.63
