And I'd go and see a person,

And they'd ask me what

happened in life and they just

Then one day the Lord put on

ex-drug-dealer, where he did

something and I went and did

something and I sat in the

county jail and I was

thinking, you know, I was gonna
00:05:31.96\00:05:33.36
kill him and I really wanted

to kill him.

And the Lord put on my heart

to go see him and to ask for

forgiveness.

And the other thing is is that

I was not to mention anything

that he did because that's not

And he was reluctant to see me

hallway and he had a big empty

short testimony of what's

There was some individuals I

was staying with in Langley

and these were serious drug

guys, serious people, and I've

seen what they would do to

people if they messed with

them, but I still had this
00:06:30.52\00:06:32.32
thing of stealing and I knew

where the stash of drugs were

and I stole the drugs back in
00:06:37.03\00:06:39.26
the-- before my experience,

right, accepting the Lord.

And the Lord put on my heart

to go see this person and I
00:06:44.53\00:06:48.17
said, "OK," so, you know, I go

and I'm hitch hiking to BC and

I go and I can't find the
00:06:52.77\00:06:56.61
person and-- but what these
00:06:56.61\00:06:58.65
guys did, OK, when they caught
00:06:58.65\00:07:01.65
me previously before I went to
00:07:01.65\00:07:04.82
Dallas, they caught me and
00:07:04.82\00:07:07.99
they chased me out of a
00:07:07.99\00:07:09.49
building and I ran and I
00:07:09.49\00:07:11.83
finally gave up and I went,
00:07:11.83\00:07:13.53
they got me down on the ground
00:07:13.53\00:07:15.06
and one had a big stick and
00:07:15.06\00:07:16.60
they said, "Well, let's kill

him," the other said, "No,

let's just poke his eyes out."

But for some reason they

stopped, but they knew it was

me that did it, but they

So the Lord put on my heart to

guys and I couldn't find them.

When I couldn't find the

people, those ex-drug-dealing

guys, to make things right, I

was out hitch hiking 'cause I

knew I had another charge on

me and the police pulled me
00:07:44.13\00:07:46.16
over and they looked me up and

they said, "Yeah you have this
00:07:50.50\00:07:51.87
charge," and I said, "Yeah, I
00:07:51.87\00:07:53.30
know I have to deal with this.
00:07:53.30\00:07:54.64
And it was a pretty serious--
00:07:54.64\00:07:55.90
with violence.

[MIKE] So even though Jesus

had forgiven you, you still had

things in this world you had

to deal with, right?

[JERRY] I had that one charge,

I knew I had that to deal with
00:08:03.91\00:08:05.41
yet and what they did is they,

after taking me to jail, they
00:08:08.52\00:08:10.39
were gonna fly me up to
00:08:10.39\00:08:11.89
Kitimat and I was with a
00:08:11.89\00:08:14.09
detective going on a small
00:08:14.09\00:08:15.86
plane in handcuffs and there
00:08:15.86\00:08:17.86
was just a few other people on
00:08:17.86\00:08:19.53
the plane.
00:08:19.53\00:08:20.60
And it was pretty embarrassing
00:08:20.60\00:08:21.80
going on a plane with handcuffs
00:08:21.80\00:08:23.40
and I remember going into the
00:08:23.40\00:08:24.97
plane and the tactical point,

you sit at the window.

So I sat at the window and he

was in the aisle side and the

handcuffs and we're just

talking and I start sharing my

testimony with him, what has

happened in life and whatever

and after sharing that with

him, he just looked down at

the handcuffs and he looked at
00:08:42.78\00:08:44.29
me and he goes, "We don't need

those, do we?"

And I said, "No," but he said,

"Before we land, these go back

on," and I said, "Yes," and I

agreed.

So we just had a really good

visit together.

And then what happened is I

had to go in front of the

judge and the judge asked me

testimony, respectfully, in

the courtroom and...

the judge said to me, he said,

a fine," and I knew he could've

given me some good jail time,

more jail time for this.

And he said, "Can you pay for

this fine?"

And I said, "Yes."

And, but he said this: "Failing

have no choice, I have to give

and I went to jail to do that

time and it was a totally

lot of people I'd be looking

was and you're meeting people.

just wanted there, if I meet

Then I got out from there and

I went back to Port Dover,

Ontario and I saw that there

was a bakery for sale.

>> And so did you decide to

get this bakery?

>> What I did is I looked at it

and my sister said and

brother-in-law said that if I

got someone qualified to bake

then they would sign for me

and which they did.

I'd go, "Oh, I'm just gonna

drive into town," you know,

"and then I'm gonna have my

devotional time."

And then I was, "Oh, I'm just

"gonna go and get the dough

going in the mixer," and then

I was just gonna let it rise

and all these stages, then I

was forcing myself to have a

devotional time.

And I was finding myself, I

was becoming very legalistic

and I was actually seeing the

faults in people.

Things I didn't see before.

I'd see 'em, but my attitude

was different, I was really

judging them.

And I'd start slipping away.

And I end up getting married.

it was a really hard time in

just losing that closeness

I'd get so "busy doing God's

work," you know, and that

became first, the work became

first, talking to other people

came first, my quiet time with

the Lord was secondary, even,

it got to the point where I

really didn't even want to,

I'd go to church, but I wasn't

really interested in it.

I'd still go and sometimes

even speak, but I knew, in my

heart, I was slipping away.

therapy and so I enrolled in

the massage therapy.

They accepted me even with my

low grade 8, they said,

"Let's just see how you can

do," and I scored high in the

practical, low in the written
00:13:08.05\00:13:09.35
and they said, "OK, you can
00:13:09.35\00:13:10.35
come in."

And so from there, I end up

having a successful business

in downtown Calgary, a number

of businesses in that work.

I travelled for about seven

years with Olympic athletes

doing their therapy with the

team, I was the therapist for

the Jamaican Olympic team in

Barcelona in 1992, I developed

an ergonomic software program.

So I was doing this, the money

was coming in and my ego was

still up here, but all that

time I had a hole, I had a

hole in my heart.
