¤¤ 00:00:00.46\00:00:35.06 >> Welcome to It Is Written 00:00:43.37\00:00:44.91 Canada. 00:00:44.91\00:00:46.01 Thank you for joining us here 00:00:46.01\00:00:47.54 in beautiful Langley, British 00:00:47.54\00:00:49.21 Columbia at the Church in 00:00:49.21\00:00:50.65 the Valley. 00:00:50.65\00:00:51.71 Our special guest is 00:00:51.71\00:00:53.01 Craig Cleveland. 00:00:53.01\00:00:54.55 >> Whenever we think of Craig, 00:00:55.05\00:00:56.58 we think of music. 00:00:56.58\00:00:58.45 God has blessed Craig with the 00:00:58.45\00:01:00.29 gift of being able to play, 00:01:00.29\00:01:02.56 write, orchestrate, and 00:01:02.56\00:01:05.06 conduct music. 00:01:05.06\00:01:07.13 Craig, we are really looking 00:01:07.13\00:01:08.66 forward to spending time with 00:01:08.66\00:01:10.20 you today. 00:01:10.20\00:01:11.10 Welcome to It Is Written 00:01:11.10\00:01:12.13 Canada. 00:01:12.13\00:01:13.37 >> It's my pleasure to be here. 00:01:13.70\00:01:15.10 >> So, Craig, tell us about 00:01:15.70\00:01:17.24 yourself and how you became 00:01:17.24\00:01:18.57 interested in music. 00:01:18.57\00:01:20.74 >> Well, it's kinda like, 00:01:21.88\00:01:23.28 where do you begin, but I 00:01:23.28\00:01:25.05 guess my first recollections 00:01:25.05\00:01:26.65 of music are just my dad 00:01:26.65\00:01:28.15 playing lots of music and 00:01:28.15\00:01:30.09 every Sabbath morning or 00:01:30.09\00:01:31.85 whenever he had the stereo 00:01:31.85\00:01:33.42 going it was music, music, and 00:01:33.42\00:01:35.06 usually violin music which was 00:01:35.06\00:01:36.73 interesting to me because in 00:01:36.73\00:01:38.26 high school he'd played the 00:01:38.26\00:01:39.43 trumpet, or kinda played 00:01:39.43\00:01:40.63 the trumpet. 00:01:40.63\00:01:41.93 So, yeah, then I think Dad got 00:01:41.93\00:01:44.30 pretty intentional about it, 00:01:44.30\00:01:45.93 started taking me to concerts 00:01:45.93\00:01:47.47 and I always liked the ones 00:01:47.47\00:01:49.07 with the violins and so I have 00:01:49.07\00:01:51.31 my parents to thank for that. 00:01:51.31\00:01:52.81 My mother plays the piano 00:01:52.81\00:01:54.41 beautifully and she would sing 00:01:54.41\00:01:56.04 and Dad's a pastor so she 00:01:56.04\00:01:57.61 would sing in church and 00:01:57.61\00:01:59.31 that's kinda where it began. 00:01:59.31\00:02:01.22 >> So what did your parents do? 00:02:01.22\00:02:03.95 >> My dad's a pastor, my mom's 00:02:03.95\00:02:05.55 a nurse and she always dreamed 00:02:05.55\00:02:07.72 of being a missionary nurse 00:02:07.72\00:02:10.96 and going off far, far away 00:02:10.96\00:02:12.56 and marrying a pastor. 00:02:12.56\00:02:14.10 So she married the pastor and 00:02:14.10\00:02:15.73 then we were pastoring in 00:02:15.73\00:02:18.33 North America and then finally 00:02:18.33\00:02:20.57 Dad got a call Brazil and that 00:02:20.57\00:02:23.10 didn't work out and then we 00:02:23.10\00:02:24.74 got a call to Africa and to 00:02:24.74\00:02:26.27 Africa we went. 00:02:26.27\00:02:27.61 So it was pretty exciting. 00:02:27.61\00:02:29.14 And at that point I had a 00:02:29.14\00:02:31.61 violin and it went with me, 00:02:31.61\00:02:33.08 but that's a different story. 00:02:33.08\00:02:34.45 >> Tell us about the violin. 00:02:34.45\00:02:35.68 Where did that come from? 00:02:35.68\00:02:36.85 [CRAIG] OK, so, yeah we were 00:02:36.85\00:02:38.45 living in New Hampshire for a 00:02:38.45\00:02:40.29 few years of my life and Dad 00:02:40.29\00:02:42.09 was taking me to these 00:02:42.09\00:02:43.46 concerts and one time we went 00:02:43.46\00:02:45.03 to a string quartet concert 00:02:45.03\00:02:47.30 and I just remember we had a 00:02:47.30\00:02:48.90 really close seat right up at 00:02:48.90\00:02:50.57 the front and I just loved it, 00:02:50.57\00:02:52.77 you know, it was so awesome, 00:02:52.77\00:02:54.84 just great music, and we're 00:02:54.84\00:02:56.20 driving home and I said to my 00:02:56.20\00:02:57.54 dad, I said, "You know what?" 00:02:57.54\00:02:58.77 "I really think I'd like to" 00:02:58.77\00:02:59.87 "play the violin." 00:02:59.87\00:03:00.84 Dad's like, "OK, I'll buy" 00:03:00.84\00:03:01.91 "you one." 00:03:01.91\00:03:02.78 And I remember that kind of 00:03:02.78\00:03:03.91 shocked me 'cause it was like, 00:03:03.91\00:03:05.11 you know, we didn't have a lot 00:03:05.11\00:03:06.18 of money and buying me a 00:03:06.18\00:03:07.62 violin, that was a big deal. 00:03:07.62\00:03:09.02 So Dad was pretty resourceful 00:03:09.02\00:03:11.62 and got looking around and 00:03:11.62\00:03:12.99 calling around and he actually 00:03:12.99\00:03:14.29 called a music guild rummage 00:03:14.29\00:03:17.16 sale and they said, 00:03:17.16\00:03:18.76 "We really don't sell" 00:03:18.76\00:03:20.03 "instruments, but oh, there" 00:03:20.03\00:03:21.20 "is one violin here and it'll" 00:03:21.20\00:03:22.26 "be up in the auction." 00:03:22.26\00:03:23.67 So he's like, "OK, I'm gonna" 00:03:23.67\00:03:24.60 "come see it." 00:03:24.60\00:03:25.53 So he grabbed a friend that 00:03:25.53\00:03:26.97 was musical, played violin, 00:03:26.97\00:03:28.14 and took me and this friend 00:03:28.14\00:03:29.34 and we went down and looked at 00:03:29.34\00:03:30.41 it and the friend's like, 00:03:30.41\00:03:31.57 "Yeah, it seems like a pretty" 00:03:31.57\00:03:32.54 "good violin." 00:03:32.54\00:03:33.78 You know, I mean... 00:03:33.78\00:03:35.08 So Dad put-- Dad couldn't be 00:03:35.08\00:03:36.34 at the auction so I put in a 00:03:36.34\00:03:37.51 sealed bid for $101 in an 00:03:37.51\00:03:39.35 envelope and I asked them if 00:03:39.35\00:03:41.35 they'd bid for him and they 00:03:41.35\00:03:42.78 said, "Well, we really don't," 00:03:42.78\00:03:44.22 "but sure, I could do that." 00:03:44.22\00:03:45.49 "Why not?" 00:03:45.49\00:03:46.86 And they called us the night 00:03:46.86\00:03:50.26 after the auction and said, 00:03:50.26\00:03:51.39 "Hey, come and get" 00:03:51.39\00:03:52.53 "your violin." 00:03:52.53\00:03:53.86 >> Hundred and one dollars. 00:03:53.86\00:03:54.76 [CRAIG] Hundred and one 00:03:54.76\00:03:55.40 dollars. 00:03:55.40\00:03:56.33 >> So tell us about 00:03:56.33\00:03:57.23 that violin. 00:03:57.23\00:03:58.27 >> Well, I played it for many, 00:03:58.27\00:03:59.87 many, many years and it's a 00:03:59.87\00:04:02.54 German-made copy of an Italian 00:04:02.54\00:04:05.81 and, ultimately, when my wife 00:04:05.81\00:04:10.75 and I had four children and 00:04:10.75\00:04:12.08 they started playing violin, 00:04:12.08\00:04:13.55 too, you know, it's a long way 00:04:13.55\00:04:15.32 down the story, but my oldest 00:04:15.32\00:04:17.32 son needed a great violin and 00:04:17.32\00:04:19.55 he became concert master of an 00:04:19.55\00:04:21.96 orchestra and so I let him use 00:04:21.96\00:04:24.23 that violin and at some point 00:04:24.23\00:04:25.86 it was appraised at around 00:04:25.86\00:04:27.46 five to ten thousand dollars. 00:04:27.46\00:04:29.66 And the bow, the bow that came 00:04:29.66\00:04:31.53 with it is appraised for two 00:04:31.53\00:04:33.23 or three thousand dollars. 00:04:33.23\00:04:34.47 So it was a very 00:04:34.47\00:04:35.77 well-spent $101. 00:04:35.77\00:04:37.41 >> Wow, that's amazing. 00:04:37.41\00:04:39.47 So, Craig, tell us how you 00:04:39.47\00:04:41.51 passed this passion for music 00:04:41.51\00:04:43.61 on to your children. 00:04:43.61\00:04:45.05 >> Well, yeah, I mean, I was 00:04:45.68\00:04:50.02 leading an orchestra and music 00:04:50.02\00:04:51.75 was my whole life and teaching 00:04:51.75\00:04:53.62 singers and all that kind of 00:04:53.62\00:04:55.46 thing so in one way it was 00:04:55.46\00:04:57.56 just by osmosis, I mean, you 00:04:57.56\00:04:59.49 know, the kids went on tour 00:04:59.49\00:05:02.53 everywhere we went, my wife 00:05:02.53\00:05:03.90 came along and she plays 00:05:03.90\00:05:05.47 cello, I play violin, my wife 00:05:05.47\00:05:08.30 plays piano, too, and so, I 00:05:08.30\00:05:09.90 mean, how could you avoid it, 00:05:09.90\00:05:11.61 but we did really want them to 00:05:11.61\00:05:13.44 get into it and I started 00:05:13.44\00:05:16.68 violin when I was 11 and I 00:05:16.68\00:05:18.31 know scientifically that if 00:05:18.31\00:05:19.78 you start violin when you're 00:05:19.78\00:05:21.25 three or four or five, you can 00:05:21.25\00:05:22.98 go so much farther with it. 00:05:22.98\00:05:25.15 So we started all of our kids 00:05:25.15\00:05:26.69 at the age of four on violin. 00:05:26.69\00:05:28.02 Our third kid was supposed to 00:05:28.02\00:05:29.19 play cello, that was kind of 00:05:29.19\00:05:30.73 our family arrangement, being 00:05:30.73\00:05:32.03 in a string quartet, right, or 00:05:32.03\00:05:33.43 close to it, but the contract 00:05:33.43\00:05:36.97 cello teacher we had working 00:05:36.97\00:05:38.40 with the orchestra at that 00:05:38.40\00:05:39.47 time said, "I don't do" 00:05:39.47\00:05:40.80 "children, I'm really sorry." 00:05:40.80\00:05:42.04 "I have struggled to do teens." 00:05:42.04\00:05:44.04 So we're driving home and our 00:05:44.04\00:05:45.81 third son said, "Oh, don't" 00:05:45.81\00:05:47.14 "worry, I wanna play violin" 00:05:47.14\00:05:48.68 "like my brothers anyway," 00:05:48.68\00:05:49.94 "so I'll play violin." 00:05:49.94\00:05:51.55 So we have four violinists. 00:05:51.55\00:05:53.15 >> So James, when did he get 00:05:53.15\00:05:54.82 his first violin? 00:05:54.82\00:05:56.15 Like, how did that happen? 00:05:56.15\00:05:57.19 He was four years old. 00:05:57.19\00:05:58.35 >> Yeah, James was four years 00:05:58.35\00:05:59.52 old so, you know, it's kinda 00:05:59.52\00:06:01.22 like that oldest kid syndrome, 00:06:01.22\00:06:02.46 Mom and Dad are thinking, 00:06:02.46\00:06:03.79 "OK, how do we make this work" 00:06:03.79\00:06:05.03 "and how do you get the kid" 00:06:05.03\00:06:06.26 "to practice and what's this" 00:06:06.26\00:06:07.46 "all gonna be like," so we 00:06:07.46\00:06:08.53 said, "Look, you see the" 00:06:08.53\00:06:09.60 "orchestra every night," 00:06:09.60\00:06:10.83 "you come down to practice," 00:06:10.83\00:06:12.20 "you go on tours with us," 00:06:12.20\00:06:13.60 "you know all about this," 00:06:13.60\00:06:14.97 "but if you wanna be a part" 00:06:14.97\00:06:16.81 "of all that fun and games," 00:06:16.81\00:06:19.11 "then you should really make" 00:06:19.11\00:06:21.84 "some money and buy a violin." 00:06:21.84\00:06:23.58 And I kinda laugh now because 00:06:23.58\00:06:24.78 I'm thinking, you know, we 00:06:24.78\00:06:25.88 never even thought of doing 00:06:25.88\00:06:27.05 that for our second son or our 00:06:27.05\00:06:28.28 third son or our daughter, and 00:06:28.28\00:06:29.55 of course we didn't have to 00:06:29.55\00:06:30.72 because James' violin was 00:06:30.72\00:06:31.99 already paid for, it was just 00:06:31.99\00:06:33.25 sitting in the closet, but 00:06:33.25\00:06:34.52 anyway, he did it at four 00:06:34.52\00:06:35.76 years old, he started making 00:06:35.76\00:06:36.89 bread and selling it to the 00:06:36.89\00:06:38.16 neighbours and making muffins 00:06:38.16\00:06:39.36 and selling in the dormitory 00:06:39.36\00:06:40.46 and, you know, pretty soon 00:06:40.46\00:06:41.53 he had $60 and we bought 00:06:41.53\00:06:42.76 him an eBay violin. 00:06:42.76\00:06:43.73 And, great little violin, 00:06:44.33\00:06:46.67 it made four violinists. 00:06:46.67\00:06:49.10 [MIKE] Wow, so he earned it at 00:06:49.10\00:06:50.44 the age of four. 00:06:50.44\00:06:51.97 So I know that you use your 00:06:51.97\00:06:53.68 passion for music to draw 00:06:53.68\00:06:55.18 people to Christ, to the 00:06:55.18\00:06:57.91 gospel, to God, but you also 00:06:57.91\00:07:00.48 now use it to produce songs 00:07:00.48\00:07:03.08 that are scripture songs to 00:07:03.08\00:07:05.79 help people to memorize the 00:07:05.79\00:07:07.26 scriptures. 00:07:07.26\00:07:08.12 Tell us about that. 00:07:08.12\00:07:09.19 >> Well, to me, everything to 00:07:09.19\00:07:11.79 do with the gospel is about 00:07:11.79\00:07:13.29 God's word. 00:07:13.29\00:07:14.83 God's word is, we'll read John 00:07:14.83\00:07:18.20 1:1, 1-3, you know... 00:07:18.20\00:07:20.37 And I believe it's not, and I 00:07:27.91\00:07:29.61 know this is true, we all can 00:07:29.61\00:07:31.38 see this in scripture, not 00:07:31.38\00:07:33.08 only is God-- does God have 00:07:33.08\00:07:35.02 the power to make the world 00:07:35.02\00:07:36.92 that we're riding on right 00:07:36.92\00:07:38.55 now, but to recreate a new 00:07:38.55\00:07:41.76 heart inside you and me and 00:07:41.76\00:07:43.43 that's the biggest thing 00:07:43.43\00:07:45.36 because life is not about the 00:07:45.36\00:07:47.03 here and now, life is about 00:07:47.03\00:07:48.20 eternity, life's about 00:07:48.20\00:07:49.56 eternity with Jesus and that's 00:07:49.56\00:07:51.27 the most exciting thing and 00:07:51.27\00:07:52.73 that experience can begin now 00:07:52.73\00:07:54.14 if we invite Jesus into our 00:07:54.14\00:07:55.60 hearts and this is all simple 00:07:55.60\00:07:57.31 Christian fundamentals, but 00:07:57.31\00:07:59.47 what better way to have that 00:07:59.47\00:08:01.31 re-creative, life-giving power, 00:08:01.31\00:08:05.11 the same power that made the 00:08:05.11\00:08:06.82 world out of nothing is what 00:08:06.82\00:08:08.62 makes a new heart in me every 00:08:08.62\00:08:10.19 day if I simply invite Jesus 00:08:10.19\00:08:12.45 into my heart. 00:08:12.45\00:08:13.92 And so all that power is in 00:08:13.92\00:08:15.42 His word and so if you can 00:08:15.42\00:08:17.59 combine your passion for music 00:08:17.59\00:08:19.29 with the Word, it's, to me 00:08:19.29\00:08:21.83 it's the most exciting thing 00:08:21.83\00:08:23.13 there is. 00:08:23.13\00:08:23.97 >> Mm-hmm. 00:08:23.97\00:08:25.10 So, Craig, you have a lot of 00:08:25.10\00:08:26.47 people that have helped you to 00:08:26.47\00:08:27.84 make this project a reality. 00:08:27.84\00:08:30.17 [CRAIG] Mm-hmm. 00:08:30.17\00:08:32.17 One of them that jumps out at 00:08:32.17\00:08:34.11 me is Jodi Eulene Patterson 00:08:34.11\00:08:37.08 and when I got the violin, 00:08:37.08\00:08:38.98 I was living in New Hampshire, 00:08:38.98\00:08:40.48 we lived there for five years, 00:08:40.48\00:08:42.08 and during that period of 00:08:42.08\00:08:43.99 time, we had a neighbour who 00:08:43.99\00:08:46.02 was this older lady who loved 00:08:46.02\00:08:49.59 to write scripture songs. 00:08:49.59\00:08:51.06 And I remember once she was 00:08:51.06\00:08:52.43 visiting in Alabama and she's 00:08:52.43\00:08:53.50 out on a walk and it was 00:08:53.50\00:08:54.83 raining and she gets this 00:08:54.83\00:08:56.36 great inspiration of a melody 00:08:56.36\00:08:57.83 and so she grabbed a stick and 00:08:57.83\00:08:59.43 she wrote in the Georgia-- in 00:08:59.43\00:09:00.70 the Alabama clay, you know, 00:09:00.70\00:09:03.07 wrote out the notes and then 00:09:03.07\00:09:04.77 came back later when it was 00:09:04.77\00:09:06.24 done raining with a notebook 00:09:06.24\00:09:07.71 and copied it all down. 00:09:07.71\00:09:09.24 So Jodi and I go way back to 00:09:09.24\00:09:10.81 when I was six years old, 00:09:10.81\00:09:12.48 she's still alive, she's still 00:09:12.48\00:09:16.22 just passionate about music 00:09:16.22\00:09:18.45 and so over the years she 00:09:18.45\00:09:20.09 wrote hundreds and hundreds 00:09:20.09\00:09:21.29 and hundreds and hundreds of 00:09:21.29\00:09:22.49 songs and about five years ago 00:09:22.49\00:09:24.09 I approached her and said, 00:09:24.09\00:09:26.03 "We have a youth congress" 00:09:26.03\00:09:27.83 "coming up and they want the" 00:09:27.83\00:09:29.26 "book of James set to music." 00:09:29.26\00:09:31.10 "Could you do it?" 00:09:31.10\00:09:32.20 >> The whole book of James? 00:09:32.20\00:09:33.10 [CRAIG] The whole book of 00:09:33.10\00:09:33.97 James. 00:09:33.97\00:09:34.54 [MIKE] Wow! 00:09:34.54\00:09:35.14 [CRAIG] And we never thought 00:09:35.24\00:09:36.17 about it, I mean, she had 00:09:36.17\00:09:37.21 written all of 1 Corinthians 00:09:37.21\00:09:38.54 13 to music and some large, 00:09:38.54\00:09:42.11 you know, Psalms 91 and some 00:09:42.11\00:09:43.81 of the larger portions, but a 00:09:43.81\00:09:45.18 whole book, that was 00:09:45.18\00:09:46.21 a big deal. 00:09:46.21\00:09:47.32 But she said, "Well, I'll" 00:09:47.32\00:09:48.42 "pray about it." 00:09:48.42\00:09:49.55 And she called me back a few 00:09:49.55\00:09:50.62 days later, she said, "I think" 00:09:50.62\00:09:51.85 "God wants me to do that." 00:09:51.85\00:09:53.96 So, and that has been on our 00:09:53.96\00:09:56.09 Scripture Singer app for a 00:09:56.09\00:09:57.79 long time, it's still there, I 00:09:57.79\00:09:59.06 love it, it takes about 25 00:09:59.06\00:10:00.90 minutes to sing the whole book. 00:10:00.90\00:10:02.53 And I say that so you 00:10:02.53\00:10:04.07 understand when I came back to 00:10:04.07\00:10:05.53 her a few years later and 00:10:05.53\00:10:06.67 said-- I always call her 00:10:06.67\00:10:08.20 Eulene because that's the name 00:10:08.20\00:10:09.47 I use, her name is Jodi Eulene 00:10:09.47\00:10:10.67 Patterson, but she went by 00:10:10.67\00:10:11.97 Eulene when I was younger, so 00:10:11.97\00:10:13.64 I said, "Eulene..." 00:10:13.64\00:10:14.91 "I know that James is a big" 00:10:16.61\00:10:18.01 "project, but I love history" 00:10:18.01\00:10:20.88 "and when we read history," 00:10:20.88\00:10:22.58 "we learn that the Waldensian" 00:10:22.58\00:10:24.15 "children could recite the" 00:10:24.15\00:10:25.65 "entire gospel of Matthew," 00:10:25.65\00:10:27.26 "every one of them, by the" 00:10:27.26\00:10:28.49 "age of four, and if they" 00:10:28.49\00:10:29.99 "needed it in the dark ages," 00:10:29.99\00:10:31.49 "we certainly need it at the" 00:10:31.49\00:10:33.16 "end of time, so would you" 00:10:33.16\00:10:34.50 "write the entire book of" 00:10:34.50\00:10:35.76 "Matthew to music?" 00:10:35.76\00:10:37.07 And she says, "Oh, I needed a" 00:10:37.07\00:10:38.43 "few days to pray about" 00:10:38.43\00:10:39.70 "writing James, let me have" 00:10:39.70\00:10:40.90 "a few weeks to think about" 00:10:40.90\00:10:41.97 "this one," so... 00:10:41.97\00:10:42.74 So she finally got back to me, 00:10:43.20\00:10:44.74 she says, "Well, I don't--" 00:10:44.74\00:10:45.94 "I won't say 'yes,' but I'll" 00:10:45.94\00:10:47.18 "say, 'I'll try.'" 00:10:47.18\00:10:48.91 And you have to understand 00:10:48.91\00:10:51.68 that, like, chapter 26, we've 00:10:51.68\00:10:54.48 just got the audio track for 00:10:54.48\00:10:56.75 it done and it's like 45 00:10:56.75\00:10:58.92 minutes long, one chapter. 00:10:58.92\00:11:00.79 So one chapter from the gospel 00:11:00.79\00:11:02.16 of Matthew is almost twice as 00:11:02.16\00:11:04.69 long as the entire book of 00:11:04.69\00:11:06.09 James, anyway, and there's 28 00:11:06.09\00:11:07.13 chapters in Matthew. 00:11:07.13\00:11:08.40 So, anyway, it's a work in 00:11:08.40\00:11:10.27 progress, but praise God, she 00:11:10.27\00:11:11.70 wrote the entire thing, I 00:11:11.70\00:11:13.27 believe it's just phenomenal 00:11:13.27\00:11:14.74 music, the first seven 00:11:14.74\00:11:16.27 chapters are on the app, the 00:11:16.27\00:11:18.04 next five are soon to be on 00:11:18.04\00:11:19.94 the app and we have a team 00:11:19.94\00:11:22.21 this summer recording more and 00:11:22.21\00:11:23.88 more of the audio for it and 00:11:23.88\00:11:25.55 we hope in a year or two to 00:11:25.55\00:11:26.82 have it done. 00:11:26.82\00:11:28.08 And I say a year or two and 00:11:28.08\00:11:29.22 that may sound like a long 00:11:29.22\00:11:30.22 time, but it's a massive 00:11:30.22\00:11:31.72 project. 00:11:31.72\00:11:32.45 >> Craig, you already referred 00:11:32.79\00:11:34.06 to John chapter 1, very 00:11:34.06\00:11:35.86 important chapter, "In the" 00:11:35.86\00:11:37.36 "beginning was the word..." 00:11:37.36\00:11:38.53 And so why don't we just 00:11:38.53\00:11:40.10 listen to that right now, one 00:11:40.10\00:11:41.90 that you produced and listen 00:11:41.90\00:11:44.27 to the guys singing that song. 00:11:44.27\00:11:45.77 >> That'd be great. 00:11:45.77\00:11:46.77 >> In the beginning... 00:11:50.74\00:11:52.57 In the beginning... 00:11:54.51\00:11:55.88 ¤In the beginning was the Word 00:11:57.41\00:12:02.62 ¤and the Word was with God 00:12:02.62\00:12:07.66 ¤and the Word was God 00:12:07.66\00:12:11.56 ¤the Word was God 00:12:11.56\00:12:18.50 ¤The same was in the 00:12:18.50\00:12:20.44 ¤beginning with God 00:12:20.44\00:12:24.94 ¤All things were made by Him 00:12:24.94\00:12:32.75 ¤And without Him 00:12:32.75\00:12:38.25 ¤was not anything made 00:12:38.25\00:12:44.96 ¤not anything 00:12:44.96\00:12:47.66 ¤In Him was life 00:12:47.66\00:12:50.70 ¤and the life was the 00:12:50.70\00:12:51.80 ¤light of men 00:12:51.80\00:12:53.13 ¤in Him was life 00:12:53.13\00:12:56.04 ¤and the life was the 00:12:56.04\00:12:57.21 ¤light of men 00:12:57.21\00:12:59.41 ¤and the light shineth in 00:12:59.41\00:13:02.94 ¤darkness and the darkness 00:13:02.94\00:13:06.58 ¤comprehended it not 00:13:06.58\00:13:13.19 ¤In the beginning was the Word 00:13:13.19\00:13:18.43 ¤and the Word was with God 00:13:18.43\00:13:22.16 ¤the Word was God 00:13:22.16\00:13:40.92 ¤Amen 00:13:41.88\00:13:55.00 >> Craig, that was such a 00:13:58.20\00:14:00.07 powerful song and such an easy 00:14:00.07\00:14:02.70 way to learn and to memorize 00:14:02.70\00:14:04.37 scripture. 00:14:04.37\00:14:05.31 >> Yeah, well, that's why our 00:14:05.74\00:14:06.78 tagline is "All you've got" 00:14:06.78\00:14:07.74 "to do is listen." 00:14:07.74\00:14:09.18 And it's true, I mean, if 00:14:09.18\00:14:10.91 people will just open the app 00:14:10.91\00:14:12.91 and listen to it while they 00:14:12.91\00:14:14.48 drive to work or while they're 00:14:14.48\00:14:15.75 jogging or while they're doing 00:14:15.75\00:14:16.95 laundry or while you're eating 00:14:16.95\00:14:18.42 dinner or any time you got 00:14:18.42\00:14:20.12 down time, just turn it on and 00:14:20.12\00:14:22.66 there's easy playlists so you 00:14:22.66\00:14:24.26 can set it up to learn 00:14:24.26\00:14:25.89 whatever you wanna learn, 00:14:25.89\00:14:27.03 "Oh, here's all the ones I" 00:14:27.03\00:14:28.13 "wanna learn," or there's 00:14:28.13\00:14:29.20 different topics, "I wanna" 00:14:29.20\00:14:30.20 "learn this topic or that" 00:14:30.20\00:14:31.30 "topic or this interests me" 00:14:31.30\00:14:32.20 "or that interests me," 00:14:32.20\00:14:33.34 it's set up so you can just 00:14:33.34\00:14:34.30 get it to play that to you 00:14:34.30\00:14:35.10 all the time. 00:14:35.10\00:14:36.27 All you've gotta do is listen 00:14:36.27\00:14:37.17 and pretty soon you've got 00:14:37.17\00:14:39.01 God's word memorized. 00:14:39.01\00:14:40.31 It really is that simple. 00:14:40.31\00:14:41.54 You can sing along, too, 00:14:41.54\00:14:42.54 that's great, too. 00:14:42.54\00:14:43.75 You can read along, too, that 00:14:43.75\00:14:44.78 doesn't hurt and we're not 00:14:44.78\00:14:45.95 against that, but I'm just 00:14:45.95\00:14:47.05 saying that we've realized 00:14:47.05\00:14:48.18 that a lot of people have busy 00:14:48.18\00:14:49.42 lives like I do and, I mean, I 00:14:49.42\00:14:51.62 don't have time to sit on the 00:14:51.62\00:14:52.69 couch and watch it. 00:14:52.69\00:14:53.92 Oh, maybe in worship we'll 00:14:53.92\00:14:55.12 sing with our kids or 00:14:55.12\00:14:56.76 whatever, but most of my time 00:14:56.76\00:14:58.66 for Scripture Singers is when 00:14:58.66\00:15:00.13 I'm driving and so I can't 00:15:00.13\00:15:01.33 look at it or do anything but 00:15:01.33\00:15:02.63 hear it and yet, it's easy. 00:15:02.63\00:15:04.20 [MIKE] It does go in, yes, and 00:15:04.20\00:15:06.00 it works very much for myself, 00:15:06.00\00:15:08.80 René and I would go downstairs 00:15:08.80\00:15:10.97 and, you know, where we have a 00:15:10.97\00:15:12.41 place where we can exercise 00:15:12.41\00:15:13.68 and we do that in the morning, 00:15:13.68\00:15:14.98 first thing, and we just play 00:15:14.98\00:15:16.04 Scripture Singer and... 00:15:16.04\00:15:17.28 >> Wow. 00:15:17.28\00:15:18.05 >> That's the thing for me and 00:15:18.05\00:15:19.18 it just, you know, I hear 00:15:19.18\00:15:20.45 God's word. 00:15:20.45\00:15:21.32 [CRAIG] Amen. 00:15:21.32\00:15:22.28 >> So what is the mission of 00:15:22.28\00:15:23.82 Scripture Singer? 00:15:23.82\00:15:25.09 >> Our mission is to take 00:15:25.09\00:15:26.49 God's word and just make it 00:15:26.49\00:15:27.96 personal, really personal. 00:15:27.96\00:15:29.32 I mean, why did the 00:15:29.32\00:15:30.59 Waldensians teach their 00:15:30.59\00:15:31.99 children by the age of four to 00:15:31.99\00:15:34.13 have in memory the entire 00:15:34.13\00:15:35.90 gospel of Matthew? 00:15:35.90\00:15:37.23 It's because they knew 00:15:37.23\00:15:38.53 they would need it and we 00:15:38.53\00:15:39.70 need it, too. 00:15:39.70\00:15:40.77 And when I think of your 00:15:40.77\00:15:42.20 ministry, It Is Written, where 00:15:42.20\00:15:43.20 does that come from? 00:15:43.20\00:15:44.47 Those are the words of Jesus 00:15:44.47\00:15:45.67 to Satan in the temptation 00:15:45.67\00:15:47.08 and what was He quoting? 00:15:47.08\00:15:48.44 "It is written," the Bible. 00:15:48.44\00:15:49.61 And so the Bible, I mean, 00:15:49.61\00:15:51.01 we're told that God's word is 00:15:51.01\00:15:53.48 so powerful, it's God speaking 00:15:53.48\00:15:55.72 to us as if we could listen to 00:15:55.72\00:15:57.42 His voice. 00:15:57.42\00:15:58.95 And so when we believe that 00:15:58.95\00:16:00.69 and we know that, then why not 00:16:00.69\00:16:02.39 take Bible study as far as we 00:16:02.39\00:16:03.86 can, let's put it right in our 00:16:03.86\00:16:05.29 minds so that we don't even 00:16:05.29\00:16:06.46 have to open the pages, we 00:16:06.46\00:16:07.60 have it there. 00:16:07.60\00:16:08.53 And that's because every 00:16:08.53\00:16:10.13 single verse in every chapter 00:16:10.13\00:16:11.73 of the Bible is a revelation 00:16:11.73\00:16:13.64 of Jesus and Jesus is our 00:16:13.64\00:16:15.47 saviour and Jesus is our 00:16:15.47\00:16:17.11 inspiration and Jesus gives us 00:16:17.11\00:16:19.01 that life power, I mean, the 00:16:19.01\00:16:21.44 Bible says that we're washed 00:16:21.44\00:16:23.48 by the Word, you know, we're-- 00:16:23.48\00:16:25.65 doctrine comes from the Word, 00:16:25.65\00:16:27.15 all good things come from the 00:16:27.15\00:16:28.48 Word, the creative power to 00:16:28.48\00:16:29.58 make me new, on and on. 00:16:29.58\00:16:30.99 We keep-- I don't wanna re-say 00:16:30.99\00:16:32.35 everything I've already said, 00:16:32.35\00:16:33.72 but if the word of God is that 00:16:33.72\00:16:35.26 good, and it is, then why not 00:16:35.26\00:16:37.33 get it as close to us as 00:16:37.33\00:16:38.99 possible so it's always there, 00:16:38.99\00:16:40.53 always available, no one can 00:16:40.53\00:16:41.93 ever take it away. 00:16:41.93\00:16:43.23 They could put you in prison or 00:16:43.23\00:16:44.70 they could do anything to you, 00:16:44.70\00:16:46.20 as history tells us, but if 00:16:46.20\00:16:48.20 you have God's word stored in 00:16:48.20\00:16:49.30 your mind, you have that 00:16:49.30\00:16:51.21 life-giving power right there. 00:16:51.21\00:16:53.31 Why not? 00:16:53.31\00:16:54.74 >> And it's almost like you're 00:16:54.74\00:16:57.01 having a two-way conversation 00:16:57.01\00:16:58.75 with God, not just you 00:16:58.75\00:17:00.25 speaking to Him, but He's 00:17:00.25\00:17:01.58 actually speaking to you 00:17:01.58\00:17:03.42 through His word and so it 00:17:03.42\00:17:05.02 makes it so personal. 00:17:05.02\00:17:06.25 >> Absolutely, yeah. 00:17:06.25\00:17:07.59 And all scripture is 00:17:07.59\00:17:09.39 profitable, right, for 00:17:09.39\00:17:11.23 doctrine, for reproof, yeah, 00:17:11.23\00:17:12.89 for correction, for teaching 00:17:12.89\00:17:14.20 in righteousness, 00:17:14.20\00:17:15.30 all scripture. 00:17:15.30\00:17:16.53 >> Yeah, yep. 00:17:16.53\00:17:18.23 It's interesting, that one 00:17:18.23\00:17:19.93 scripture you just mentioned, 00:17:19.93\00:17:21.74 I was at work one time, and I 00:17:21.74\00:17:25.04 do all kinds of things for 00:17:25.04\00:17:26.57 work these days and I was 00:17:26.57\00:17:27.88 actually doing dry wall and I 00:17:27.88\00:17:29.21 was thinking, "This is just," 00:17:29.21\00:17:30.71 "like, really boring." 00:17:30.71\00:17:32.48 And I was working all alone 00:17:33.42\00:17:35.38 and if you know me, I hate to 00:17:35.38\00:17:36.79 be alone, but anyway, and I 00:17:36.79\00:17:38.19 actually just said, "Lord," 00:17:38.19\00:17:39.65 "what am I doing this for?" 00:17:39.65\00:17:41.22 And immediately God 00:17:41.22\00:17:42.86 impressed me, "Well..." 00:17:42.86\00:17:44.89 "what about scripture?" 00:17:45.86\00:17:47.20 I'm like, "Oh, yes, I need a" 00:17:47.20\00:17:48.60 "melody for this." 00:17:48.60\00:17:49.90 So I'm like, "Lord, if You can 00:17:49.90\00:17:51.13 "do something for me today, I" 00:17:51.13\00:17:52.37 "really need it," and I'm 00:17:52.37\00:17:53.50 drywall-sanding away, you 00:17:53.50\00:17:54.77 know, "Give me a melody for" 00:17:54.77\00:17:56.34 "that 'All scripture is given" 00:17:56.34\00:17:57.74 "by inspiration,'" and He did. 00:17:57.74\00:17:59.61 And so God is good and that's 00:17:59.61\00:18:01.01 the thing, when you talk about 00:18:01.01\00:18:02.64 scripture singing, you have to 00:18:02.64\00:18:03.85 recognize there's miracle 00:18:03.85\00:18:05.01 after miracle after miracle 00:18:05.01\00:18:06.28 and it's not just me, there 00:18:06.28\00:18:07.52 are volunteers all over that 00:18:07.52\00:18:08.75 make this thing happen and 00:18:08.75\00:18:10.05 miracle after miracle, whether 00:18:10.05\00:18:11.49 it's giving money so we can 00:18:11.49\00:18:13.02 film it or inspiring, you 00:18:13.02\00:18:14.59 know, giving money so we can 00:18:14.59\00:18:15.79 pay somebody to sing it or 00:18:15.79\00:18:17.06 whatever it is, God has opened 00:18:17.06\00:18:18.26 many, many, many doors and 00:18:18.26\00:18:20.03 it's just really exciting. 00:18:20.03\00:18:21.60 >> So, Craig, can you tell us 00:18:22.50\00:18:24.23 where this idea of singing 00:18:24.23\00:18:26.63 scripture came from? 00:18:26.63\00:18:28.50 >> Well, for me, I mean, I-- 00:18:29.14\00:18:31.81 the first recollections I ever 00:18:31.81\00:18:33.24 have of it was Jodi Eulene 00:18:33.24\00:18:34.68 Patterson, she was our 00:18:34.68\00:18:36.21 neighbour, I'm six years old 00:18:36.21\00:18:37.61 and she's writing scripture 00:18:37.61\00:18:39.08 songs all the time and she'd 00:18:39.08\00:18:40.45 come to church or to vespers 00:18:40.45\00:18:42.05 and always teaching new songs 00:18:42.05\00:18:43.59 so that's where the idea there 00:18:43.59\00:18:45.49 came in. 00:18:45.49\00:18:46.55 When I was in my early 30's, 00:18:46.55\00:18:49.02 that's when I got the idea 00:18:49.02\00:18:50.63 that, "Wait a minute, with" 00:18:50.63\00:18:52.09 "the advance of technology," 00:18:52.09\00:18:54.40 "cassettes are outdated," 00:18:54.40\00:18:57.13 "forget that," that's the only 00:18:57.13\00:18:58.50 place that her music was, 00:18:58.50\00:19:00.20 "we need it on an app." 00:19:00.20\00:19:01.80 Forget CD's, let's go right to 00:19:01.80\00:19:03.07 the app, you have the app then 00:19:03.07\00:19:04.37 it's free to everybody and so 00:19:04.37\00:19:06.21 that was-- and I took that 00:19:06.21\00:19:07.78 idea to the youth orchestra in 00:19:07.78\00:19:09.41 Canada where I was working at 00:19:09.41\00:19:10.88 that point and said to the 00:19:10.88\00:19:12.45 kids, "Hey, I know you guys" 00:19:12.45\00:19:14.15 "are all talented and if" 00:19:14.15\00:19:15.45 "there's anybody that can do" 00:19:15.45\00:19:16.69 "media stuff it's gonna be" 00:19:16.69\00:19:17.99 "you guys in your generation." 00:19:17.99\00:19:19.42 "Is there anybody that could" 00:19:19.42\00:19:20.42 "make an app?" 00:19:20.42\00:19:21.82 And I said, "If you think so," 00:19:21.82\00:19:23.83 "come and see me." 00:19:23.83\00:19:25.19 And afterwards, a young fellow 00:19:25.19\00:19:27.10 by the name of Matthew Dietel 00:19:27.10\00:19:28.23 came forward and said, 00:19:28.23\00:19:29.60 "You know, I've never done" 00:19:29.60\00:19:30.83 "anything like this before," 00:19:30.83\00:19:31.93 "but I do like computers so" 00:19:31.93\00:19:33.17 "I'd like to give it a try." 00:19:33.17\00:19:35.10 And I'll tell you something, 00:19:35.10\00:19:36.84 we have paid a lot of money to 00:19:36.84\00:19:38.31 a lot of developers in the 00:19:38.31\00:19:39.81 years that have followed since 00:19:39.81\00:19:41.31 that very early beginning, but 00:19:41.31\00:19:44.45 Matthew Dietel's app went to 00:19:44.45\00:19:46.41 Apple and was never ever 00:19:46.41\00:19:48.58 rejected and Matthew Dietel's 00:19:48.58\00:19:50.12 app worked really, really well. 00:19:50.12\00:19:51.95 So God blessed a 16-year-old 00:19:51.95\00:19:54.22 with the gifts he'd never had 00:19:54.22\00:19:55.49 before to do it. 00:19:55.49\00:19:56.89 So it's exciting to partner 00:19:56.89\00:19:58.43 with God and do something like 00:19:58.43\00:19:59.76 this because you have to, you 00:19:59.76\00:20:01.80 can't do it by yourself, only 00:20:01.80\00:20:03.53 God can inspire people to give 00:20:03.53\00:20:05.10 and do all these things or 00:20:05.10\00:20:06.43 give the melodies or whatever 00:20:06.43\00:20:07.70 it is or to give the ability 00:20:07.70\00:20:08.94 to write the app, but that's 00:20:08.94\00:20:10.44 part of the exciting part is 00:20:10.44\00:20:12.24 that you see God leading. 00:20:12.24\00:20:13.94 >> And it's not just you, it 00:20:13.94\00:20:16.51 is much bigger, there's so 00:20:16.51\00:20:17.95 many people involved. 00:20:17.95\00:20:19.58 [CRAIG] That's right. 00:20:19.58\00:20:20.78 >> And so let's listen to 00:20:20.78\00:20:22.02 another song where we can see 00:20:22.02\00:20:23.18 some young people singing again 00:20:23.18\00:20:24.35 a scripture song. 00:20:24.35\00:20:25.82 [gentle guitar music] 00:20:27.82\00:20:31.13 ¤The Lord is my light 00:20:33.13\00:20:35.36 ¤and my salvation 00:20:35.36\00:20:39.10 ¤Whom shall I fear 00:20:39.10\00:20:44.47 ¤The Lord is the strength 00:20:44.47\00:20:46.74 ¤of my life 00:20:46.74\00:20:50.25 ¤Of whom shall I be afraid 00:20:50.25\00:20:56.65 ¤When the wicked 00:20:56.65\00:20:59.82 ¤even mine enemies and my foes 00:20:59.82\00:21:02.39 ¤came upon me 00:21:02.39\00:21:04.39 ¤they stumbled and fell 00:21:04.39\00:21:07.00 ¤Though an host should 00:21:07.00\00:21:08.86 ¤encamp against me 00:21:08.86\00:21:12.13 ¤my heart shall not fear 00:21:12.13\00:21:18.44 ¤Though war should rise 00:21:18.44\00:21:19.97 ¤against me 00:21:19.97\00:21:21.41 ¤in this will I be confident 00:21:21.41\00:21:23.98 ¤One thing have I 00:21:23.98\00:21:25.41 ¤desired of the Lord 00:21:25.41\00:21:31.55 ¤that will I seek after 00:21:31.55\00:21:35.66 ¤That I may dwell 00:21:35.66\00:21:37.86 ¤in the house of the Lord 00:21:37.86\00:21:40.63 ¤all the days of my life 00:21:40.63\00:21:46.80 ¤To behold the beauty 00:21:46.80\00:21:50.27 ¤of the Lord 00:21:50.27\00:21:51.97 ¤and to enquire in His temple 00:21:51.97\00:21:57.95 ¤For in the time of trouble 00:21:57.95\00:22:00.35 ¤He shall hide me 00:22:00.35\00:22:04.92 ¤in His pavilion 00:22:04.92\00:22:08.79 ¤In the secret of His 00:22:08.79\00:22:10.99 ¤tabernacle shall He hide me 00:22:10.99\00:22:14.93 ¤He shall set me up 00:22:14.93\00:22:16.83 ¤upon a rock 00:22:16.83\00:22:19.83 ¤He shall hide me 00:22:19.83\00:22:34.02 >> I just love listening to 00:22:35.42\00:22:37.15 scripture and it really does 00:22:37.15\00:22:38.82 speak to my heart. 00:22:38.82\00:22:40.76 So how has it spoken to you 00:22:40.76\00:22:43.09 personally, Craig? 00:22:43.09\00:22:44.46 When you listen to these 00:22:44.46\00:22:45.96 songs, I mean, you produced 00:22:45.96\00:22:47.60 them, but I know you also 00:22:47.60\00:22:48.83 listen to them. 00:22:48.83\00:22:50.13 How have they benefited you? 00:22:50.13\00:22:51.73 >> Well, it really is a 00:22:51.73\00:22:53.23 blessing to be involved 00:22:53.23\00:22:55.27 because, you know, every 00:22:55.27\00:22:58.11 single song that's come 00:22:58.11\00:22:59.51 through I've had the privilege 00:22:59.51\00:23:00.84 of editing it or listening to 00:23:00.84\00:23:02.08 it or proofing it or, you 00:23:02.08\00:23:03.48 know, and-- but honestly, it 00:23:03.48\00:23:05.35 is such a blessing. 00:23:05.35\00:23:07.52 I just went through Matthew 8, 00:23:07.52\00:23:09.75 so many truths are just 00:23:09.75\00:23:12.32 leaping out at you and I know 00:23:12.32\00:23:13.76 even the young people involved, 00:23:13.76\00:23:15.06 they're singing it or playing 00:23:15.06\00:23:16.42 the piano for it or filming it 00:23:16.42\00:23:17.79 and they say, you know, we-- 00:23:17.79\00:23:20.00 it's changing, which is 00:23:20.00\00:23:21.16 powerful. 00:23:21.16\00:23:22.73 And I know for me, personally, 00:23:22.73\00:23:25.03 if I ever get discouraged... 00:23:25.03\00:23:26.47 I've just always found that if 00:23:28.57\00:23:30.04 I just go and turn on the app 00:23:30.04\00:23:31.91 and let it start playing, 00:23:31.91\00:23:33.88 there's power and it's God 00:23:33.88\00:23:36.78 speaking and God always speaks 00:23:36.78\00:23:38.98 peace and He speaks hope and 00:23:38.98\00:23:41.38 He speaks joy and it's 00:23:41.38\00:23:43.22 that simple. 00:23:43.22\00:23:45.12 So I just praise God for 00:23:45.12\00:23:47.42 Scripture Singer and I know 00:23:47.42\00:23:49.16 for me, personally, too, when 00:23:49.16\00:23:50.86 it comes to, you know, if 00:23:50.86\00:23:52.13 you're talking with people and 00:23:52.13\00:23:53.33 I work with people of all 00:23:53.33\00:23:54.56 walks of life, many 00:23:54.56\00:23:56.23 non-Christians, and yet you 00:23:56.23\00:23:59.03 get talking about things that 00:23:59.03\00:24:00.70 are spiritual or they ask you, 00:24:00.70\00:24:02.20 why you're a Christian or 00:24:02.20\00:24:03.81 whatever, I find, personally, 00:24:03.81\00:24:05.21 it's the verses that I've 00:24:05.21\00:24:06.47 memorized that come to mind 00:24:06.47\00:24:07.94 and again, that's just 00:24:07.94\00:24:09.58 logical, that's why Scripture 00:24:09.58\00:24:11.28 Singer exists, to put in our 00:24:11.28\00:24:12.81 minds so it's right there. 00:24:12.81\00:24:14.28 If someone asks you a 00:24:14.28\00:24:15.62 question, you say, "Oh, I got" 00:24:15.62\00:24:16.65 "a book in my car, just a" 00:24:16.65\00:24:17.82 "minute," and you run get your 00:24:17.82\00:24:18.92 Bible, no, you're gonna say, 00:24:18.92\00:24:20.12 "Hey, didn't you know that it" 00:24:20.12\00:24:21.79 "says this in the Bible," or 00:24:21.79\00:24:23.02 this or that. 00:24:23.02\00:24:24.49 And for me, personally, it's 00:24:24.49\00:24:25.53 been the book of James. 00:24:25.53\00:24:26.76 I really love the book of 00:24:26.76\00:24:27.93 James, having memorized all of 00:24:27.93\00:24:29.40 that as a family together and, 00:24:29.40\00:24:32.13 you know, it's-- the book of 00:24:32.13\00:24:33.57 James is just the succinct 00:24:33.57\00:24:34.70 picture of the whole gospel 00:24:34.70\00:24:35.87 and so just about everything 00:24:35.87\00:24:37.14 you need can be found in the 00:24:37.14\00:24:38.57 book of James and since we, as 00:24:38.57\00:24:40.01 a family, memorized the whole 00:24:40.01\00:24:41.18 thing, that was a real 00:24:41.18\00:24:42.44 blessing. 00:24:42.44\00:24:43.35 And I know even, just a 00:24:43.35\00:24:44.75 practical tip, too, as a 00:24:44.75\00:24:46.15 family, we wanna have family 00:24:46.15\00:24:47.38 worship and we did a lot of 00:24:47.38\00:24:48.65 travelling, a lot of times we 00:24:48.65\00:24:50.19 would have worship in the 00:24:50.19\00:24:51.69 dark, driving, and we just 00:24:51.69\00:24:53.39 sing the book of James. 00:24:53.39\00:24:54.96 And so it's just so handy. 00:24:54.96\00:24:57.19 And then you stop, you get 00:24:57.19\00:24:58.56 done with the whole thing, 25 00:24:58.56\00:24:59.69 minutes later and you say, 00:24:59.69\00:25:00.90 "Alright, what did we learn?" 00:25:00.90\00:25:02.30 And the kids are talking, 00:25:02.30\00:25:03.63 "Oh, this, that or whatever," 00:25:03.63\00:25:05.40 and it's there; how to treat 00:25:05.40\00:25:08.70 other people, what to deal 00:25:08.70\00:25:11.27 with pride, giving offerings, 00:25:11.27\00:25:14.14 and where does everything 00:25:14.14\00:25:15.91 good come from? 00:25:15.91\00:25:17.05 Well, it's from God, it's all 00:25:17.05\00:25:18.25 in the book of James, but 00:25:18.25\00:25:19.55 whatever passage you want to 00:25:19.55\00:25:20.95 memorize, it's just-- once 00:25:20.95\00:25:22.25 you've got it right there in 00:25:22.25\00:25:23.42 your mind, it's such a 00:25:23.42\00:25:24.69 blessing. 00:25:24.69\00:25:25.52 I did have a friend at work 00:25:26.49\00:25:28.02 who came to me and said, 00:25:28.02\00:25:29.62 "I've left the faith of my" 00:25:29.62\00:25:32.03 "childhood and I know that's" 00:25:32.03\00:25:34.00 "not the answer, but I would" 00:25:34.00\00:25:36.00 "like to know, how can I get" 00:25:36.00\00:25:38.20 "from here to heaven and" 00:25:38.20\00:25:40.24 "avoid hell," and so I said, 00:25:40.24\00:25:42.44 "Well, the Bible's the answer." 00:25:42.44\00:25:45.34 And then, you know, we work 00:25:45.34\00:25:46.74 together every day and a few 00:25:46.74\00:25:47.98 weeks later he realized I am 00:25:47.98\00:25:49.24 involved with Scripture Singer 00:25:49.24\00:25:50.71 and it's my passion and I 00:25:50.71\00:25:52.05 spend all my free time doing 00:25:52.05\00:25:53.62 it and so he's like, 00:25:53.62\00:25:55.42 "Well, hey, I need the app!" 00:25:55.42\00:25:57.09 "You said the Bible's the" 00:25:57.09\00:25:58.35 "answer, so I should be" 00:25:58.35\00:25:59.65 "listening to Scripture Singer" 00:25:59.65\00:26:00.82 "while I drive to work!" 00:26:00.82\00:26:02.09 And I said, "Yes, you should," 00:26:02.09\00:26:03.29 "that'd be great!" 00:26:03.29\00:26:04.86 So what a blessing and-- but, 00:26:04.86\00:26:06.66 again, it's not just that it's 00:26:06.66\00:26:08.40 God's word, but music. 00:26:08.40\00:26:09.90 I mean, Jesus sang the 00:26:09.90\00:26:11.20 scriptures, David sang the 00:26:11.20\00:26:12.57 scriptures, the Israelites 00:26:12.57\00:26:14.24 sang so this is Biblical. 00:26:14.24\00:26:17.04 >> It's so much easier to 00:26:17.04\00:26:18.71 store up God's word in your 00:26:18.71\00:26:20.11 heart, right, when you're 00:26:20.11\00:26:21.71 listening to it as a song, 00:26:21.71\00:26:22.88 right? 00:26:22.88\00:26:23.58 >> Yes. 00:26:23.58\00:26:24.88 >> And so Jesus, He used it as 00:26:24.88\00:26:27.28 a weapon against temptation 00:26:27.28\00:26:30.52 in the wilderness with Satan. 00:26:30.52\00:26:33.15 And so He said, "It is" 00:26:33.15\00:26:34.86 "written, man shall not live" 00:26:34.86\00:26:36.29 "by bread alone, but by every" 00:26:36.29\00:26:37.73 "word that proceeds out of" 00:26:37.73\00:26:39.13 "the mouth of God." 00:26:39.13\00:26:40.20 >> Amen, amen. 00:26:40.20\00:26:41.50 >> Craig, this has been so 00:26:41.50\00:26:43.00 much fun, but unfortunately we 00:26:43.00\00:26:44.20 have come to the end of 00:26:44.20\00:26:45.73 our program. 00:26:45.73\00:26:47.14 I wonder if you could please 00:26:47.14\00:26:48.24 pray for us. 00:26:48.24\00:26:49.37 >> Sure. 00:26:49.64\00:26:50.64 Heavenly Father, thank You so 00:26:51.87\00:26:53.64 much for Your Holy Word and 00:26:53.64\00:26:55.68 thank You for this opportunity 00:26:55.68\00:26:56.85 to share about Scripture 00:26:56.85\00:26:58.31 Singer and, Lord, I just pray 00:26:58.31\00:26:59.58 that others can be inspired to 00:26:59.58\00:27:01.58 sing and memorize Your Holy 00:27:01.58\00:27:03.72 Word, Lord, and may it 00:27:03.72\00:27:04.95 bless them. 00:27:04.95\00:27:06.25 We thank You and we pray all 00:27:06.25\00:27:07.36 these things in Jesus' 00:27:07.36\00:27:08.62 precious name, amen. 00:27:08.62\00:27:10.49 [MIKE] Amen.
