>> Did you know that if you had 00:00:01.13\00:00:02.13 a simple domino 00:00:02.13\00:00:04.63 that domino is capable of 00:00:04.63\00:00:06.17 knocking over another domino 00:00:06.17\00:00:08.90 one and a half times larger 00:00:08.90\00:00:10.74 than itself. 00:00:10.74\00:00:11.37 So if you started with a domino 00:00:11.47\00:00:13.41 just five millimetres tall and 00:00:13.41\00:00:16.31 one millimetre thick, 00:00:16.31\00:00:17.91 about the size of a Tic-Tac, 00:00:17.91\00:00:19.45 it would take just twenty-nine 00:00:19.45\00:00:21.72 progressively larger dominoes 00:00:21.72\00:00:23.52 to wipe out, get this 00:00:23.52\00:00:25.15 the Empire State Building. 00:00:25.15\00:00:27.69 >> And that first Tic-Tac-sized 00:00:27.69\00:00:29.89 domino is so small that it 00:00:29.89\00:00:31.76 needs to be set up 00:00:31.76\00:00:32.96 with tweezers. 00:00:32.96\00:00:34.30 >> The gravitational potential 00:00:34.30\00:00:36.20 energy or the energy stored by 00:00:36.20\00:00:37.90 balancing that domino on its 00:00:37.90\00:00:39.67 side comes from the domino's 00:00:39.67\00:00:41.64 mass and height, both of which 00:00:41.64\00:00:43.97 increase with every 00:00:43.97\00:00:45.67 successive domino. 00:00:45.67\00:00:47.11 >> In this demonstration by 00:00:47.11\00:00:48.74 physics professor, 00:00:48.74\00:00:50.15 Stephen Morris, from the 00:00:50.15\00:00:51.45 University of Toronto, 00:00:51.45\00:00:52.91 he uses thirteen dominoes 00:00:52.91\00:00:55.78 and the amplification of energy 00:00:55.78\00:00:57.65 from the beginning to the end 00:00:57.65\00:00:59.79 is two billion. 00:00:59.79\00:01:01.79 Think about what that means. 00:01:01.79\00:01:04.23 You put a little bit of energy 00:01:04.23\00:01:06.26 in at the beginning and you get 00:01:06.26\00:01:08.16 two billion times as much at 00:01:08.16\00:01:10.77 the end. 00:01:10.77\00:01:11.90 >> This is an amazing object 00:01:18.07\00:01:19.77 lesson to show us how much 00:01:19.77\00:01:21.28 potential energy each one of us 00:01:21.28\00:01:23.95 has in the power of choice. 00:01:23.95\00:01:26.72 You see, from the genesis of 00:01:26.72\00:01:28.82 humankind, everything hinged on 00:01:28.82\00:01:30.92 the freedom and power enhanced 00:01:30.92\00:01:33.12 in a decision. 00:01:33.12\00:01:35.02 >> From the moment your eyes 00:01:35.02\00:01:36.89 crack open in the morning, 00:01:36.89\00:01:38.69 you have decisions to make. 00:01:38.69\00:01:40.90 Should you get out of bed? 00:01:40.90\00:01:42.50 Or should you sleep in 00:01:42.50\00:01:43.77 for a few more minutes? 00:01:43.77\00:01:45.77 >> Even military leaders, they 00:01:45.77\00:01:47.14 tell their troops, "If you" 00:01:47.14\00:01:48.37 "want to change the world," 00:01:48.37\00:01:49.67 "start by making your bed." 00:01:49.67\00:01:51.61 And the Bible adds its weight 00:01:51.61\00:01:53.44 to this truth when it says: 00:01:53.44\00:01:55.41 We start every day with 00:02:01.08\00:02:02.48 work to do 00:02:02.48\00:02:04.05 and baby steps, Tic-Tac-sized, 00:02:04.05\00:02:06.72 small beginnings are the key to 00:02:06.72\00:02:09.46 success because they're really 00:02:09.46\00:02:11.83 are no small decisions. 00:02:11.83\00:02:13.70 Even a small decision like 00:02:13.70\00:02:15.80 making your bed is a habit that 00:02:15.80\00:02:18.13 can lead to a chain reaction of 00:02:18.13\00:02:20.50 successful, right decisions 00:02:20.50\00:02:22.84 throughout your day 00:02:22.84\00:02:24.34 and throughout your lifetime. 00:02:24.34\00:02:26.24 >> But it's your choice. 00:02:26.24\00:02:28.41 Are you going to make your bed 00:02:28.41\00:02:29.68 in the morning or not? 00:02:29.68\00:02:31.85 There are no small decisions, 00:02:31.85\00:02:33.72 you see. 00:02:33.72\00:02:34.65 Luke 16 verse 10 says: 00:02:34.65\00:02:37.19 Bigger decisions like being 00:02:42.79\00:02:44.43 able to buy a house or get 00:02:44.43\00:02:45.96 married will be affected by the 00:02:45.96\00:02:47.96 series of smaller choices 00:02:47.96\00:02:50.17 you've made in the past. 00:02:50.17\00:02:52.83 >> In the Bible, God offers you 00:02:52.83\00:02:54.60 the chance even if your faith 00:02:54.60\00:02:56.71 in Him is the size of, as Jesus 00:02:56.71\00:02:59.21 says, a little mustard seed, 00:02:59.21\00:03:01.81 to make the ultimate decision, 00:03:01.81\00:03:03.85 when He says: 00:03:03.85\00:03:05.88 God definitely wants you to 00:03:15.56\00:03:17.16 live an abundant, successful 00:03:17.16\00:03:19.26 life, not just now, 00:03:19.26\00:03:20.90 but eternally. 00:03:20.90\00:03:22.63 In today's program, we will 00:03:22.63\00:03:24.33 look at how every-day decisions 00:03:24.33\00:03:26.90 produce earth-shattering 00:03:26.90\00:03:29.40 outcomes. 00:03:29.40\00:03:30.84 ¤¤ 00:03:30.84\00:03:59.70 >> There are three men who have 00:04:09.01\00:04:10.41 become heroes to me. 00:04:10.41\00:04:11.48 Two were Canadian athletes and 00:04:11.48\00:04:13.48 one was born before I was and 00:04:13.48\00:04:15.22 yet he is still alive today. 00:04:15.22\00:04:17.79 >> So, Mike, who were these 00:04:17.79\00:04:19.05 three men? 00:04:19.05\00:04:19.72 >> Well, the two athletes were 00:04:19.72\00:04:21.26 Terry Fox and Paul Henderson. 00:04:21.26\00:04:23.22 >> So they were heroes for you? 00:04:23.22\00:04:24.93 >> Yeah, I think they were 00:04:24.93\00:04:26.06 heroes to most Canadians. 00:04:26.06\00:04:28.20 But what I admire most was how 00:04:28.20\00:04:30.87 they were so decisive. 00:04:30.87\00:04:32.60 They knew what they wanted 00:04:32.60\00:04:34.90 and they weren't afraid to 00:04:34.90\00:04:35.97 go for it. 00:04:35.97\00:04:37.01 >> What do you think made them 00:04:37.01\00:04:38.64 like that? 00:04:38.64\00:04:39.41 >> That's a good question. 00:04:39.41\00:04:40.64 Terry Fox and Paul Henderson 00:04:40.64\00:04:41.88 both lived so goal-oriented 00:04:41.88\00:04:44.18 because they both had a burning 00:04:44.18\00:04:46.55 desire to do one thing. 00:04:46.55\00:04:47.88 One thing for their country 00:04:47.88\00:04:50.35 and for the good of all. 00:04:50.35\00:04:51.92 And they both had very strong, 00:04:51.92\00:04:54.06 supportive family members who 00:04:54.06\00:04:56.02 believed in them. 00:04:56.02\00:04:57.49 >> From an early age, 00:04:57.49\00:04:58.69 I know Terry Fox wanted to be 00:04:58.69\00:05:00.53 an athlete 00:05:00.53\00:05:01.63 and even when he lost his right 00:05:01.63\00:05:02.96 leg to cancer 00:05:02.96\00:05:04.10 that didn't stop him. 00:05:04.10\00:05:06.07 He said it even made him 00:05:06.07\00:05:07.54 stronger and he wanted to help 00:05:07.54\00:05:09.80 other people who were also 00:05:09.80\00:05:11.34 suffering from cancer. 00:05:11.34\00:05:13.34 So he ran the Marathon of Hope 00:05:13.34\00:05:15.41 and he had the support of his 00:05:15.41\00:05:17.28 family and friends 00:05:17.28\00:05:19.35 and it became a chain reaction 00:05:19.35\00:05:21.35 where he got the support of the 00:05:21.35\00:05:22.62 whole country 00:05:22.62\00:05:23.92 and today there are Terry Fox 00:05:23.92\00:05:26.49 Runs all over the world 00:05:26.49\00:05:28.59 raising hundreds of millions 00:05:28.59\00:05:30.66 of dollars. 00:05:30.66\00:05:31.96 >> And Paul Henderson who is 00:05:31.96\00:05:33.86 best known for scoring that 00:05:33.86\00:05:35.56 winning goal in Game 8 of the 00:05:35.56\00:05:36.87 Summit Series, and I know you 00:05:36.87\00:05:38.43 remember that goal. 00:05:38.43\00:05:39.73 He also had a strong, 00:05:39.73\00:05:41.57 supportive family. 00:05:41.57\00:05:42.57 But beyond hockey, Paul made 00:05:42.57\00:05:44.84 significant, life-changing 00:05:44.84\00:05:46.71 decisions which we will let 00:05:46.71\00:05:48.58 Paul himself tell you about 00:05:48.58\00:05:50.68 in his own words 00:05:50.68\00:05:51.65 later in the program. 00:05:51.65\00:05:53.01 >> So, Mike, you were saying 00:05:53.01\00:05:54.02 there was three men 00:05:54.02\00:05:55.45 who were decisive. 00:05:55.45\00:05:56.62 Who was the third man? 00:05:56.62\00:05:58.25 >> Well, the third man, if you 00:05:58.25\00:05:59.49 haven't guess already, was very 00:05:59.49\00:06:02.59 goal-oriented because he had a 00:06:02.59\00:06:04.79 burning desire to do one thing. 00:06:04.79\00:06:07.86 But it wasn't to play hockey 00:06:07.86\00:06:09.96 or to run across Canada. 00:06:09.96\00:06:12.83 He also had a very strong, 00:06:12.83\00:06:14.27 supportive father who 00:06:14.27\00:06:16.04 believed in him. 00:06:16.04\00:06:17.24 >> So tell us his name! 00:06:17.24\00:06:18.67 >> OK, so this is it. 00:06:18.67\00:06:20.64 He is the man that we know 00:06:20.64\00:06:22.01 today as the Son of God, 00:06:22.01\00:06:24.08 Jesus Christ 00:06:24.08\00:06:25.08 and I first learned about Him 00:06:25.08\00:06:26.65 when someone gave me this Bible 00:06:26.65\00:06:29.32 and they challenged me to read 00:06:29.32\00:06:31.19 a chapter a day 00:06:31.19\00:06:32.69 and he said it would change my 00:06:32.69\00:06:35.09 life and the truth is, it did. 00:06:35.09\00:06:37.56 That's when Jesus became my 00:06:37.56\00:06:39.59 ultimate role-model, my hero, 00:06:39.59\00:06:41.63 my example, my friend. 00:06:41.63\00:06:43.97 From reading this Bible, 00:06:43.97\00:06:46.37 I learned that Jesus had one 00:06:46.37\00:06:48.14 burning desire. 00:06:48.14\00:06:49.90 The goal of His life was to 00:06:49.90\00:06:51.44 bless every human being with a 00:06:51.44\00:06:54.11 meaningful, abundant life, 00:06:54.11\00:06:56.41 eternal life. 00:06:56.41\00:06:57.88 >> And Jesus also had a very 00:06:57.88\00:06:59.95 strong, supportive father who 00:06:59.95\00:07:01.45 believed in Him. 00:07:01.45\00:07:02.82 >> Yes, He did. 00:07:02.82\00:07:04.39 There were two times during 00:07:04.39\00:07:06.42 Jesus' life on earth when His 00:07:06.42\00:07:08.02 Father spoke audibly the same 00:07:08.02\00:07:10.73 words to Him that the people 00:07:10.73\00:07:12.76 could actually hear His voice. 00:07:12.76\00:07:15.40 >> Both times are found in the 00:07:15.40\00:07:16.87 book of Matthew. 00:07:16.87\00:07:17.87 Here's the first one: 00:07:17.87\00:07:19.80 This verse is found in 00:07:28.98\00:07:30.51 Matthew 3, verse 17 00:07:30.51\00:07:32.35 at Jesus' baptism. 00:07:32.35\00:07:34.05 >> And the second time that God 00:07:34.05\00:07:35.68 the Father speaks audibly to 00:07:35.68\00:07:37.99 His Son the exact same words, 00:07:37.99\00:07:39.55 is found in Matthew 17, verse 5 00:07:39.55\00:07:42.49 at His transfiguration, which 00:07:42.49\00:07:43.99 says almost the same words: 00:07:43.99\00:07:45.93 >> These words must be 00:07:54.77\00:07:56.04 important because God repeated 00:07:56.04\00:07:58.07 the same words audibly twice. 00:07:58.07\00:08:01.38 Imagine God saying those words 00:08:01.38\00:08:03.91 to you personally. 00:08:03.91\00:08:06.05 You are my beloved child 00:08:06.05\00:08:08.48 in whom I am well pleased. 00:08:08.48\00:08:10.82 >> Wow, that would be amazing 00:08:10.82\00:08:11.95 to me because I didn't grow up 00:08:11.95\00:08:13.92 with my earthly father around, 00:08:13.92\00:08:16.16 but when I started to read this 00:08:16.16\00:08:18.09 Bible as a teenager, I decided 00:08:18.09\00:08:20.50 that I wanted to be 00:08:20.50\00:08:21.83 a child of God. 00:08:21.83\00:08:23.30 And when I chose 00:08:23.30\00:08:24.67 to accept Jesus 00:08:24.67\00:08:26.00 I knew these three things 00:08:26.00\00:08:27.30 and every child needs to know 00:08:27.30\00:08:29.14 these three things. 00:08:29.14\00:08:30.67 I knew number one, that God was 00:08:30.67\00:08:32.84 my eternal, heavenly Father. 00:08:32.84\00:08:34.38 Number two, I knew 00:08:34.38\00:08:36.78 that He loved me 00:08:36.78\00:08:38.35 and every child 00:08:38.35\00:08:39.08 needs to know that 00:08:39.08\00:08:39.85 and number three, I knew that 00:08:39.85\00:08:42.32 He was pleased with me. 00:08:42.32\00:08:44.32 And that made all the 00:08:44.32\00:08:45.49 difference in the world to know 00:08:45.49\00:08:47.06 that God was pleased with me. 00:08:47.06\00:08:49.29 So here's a question: 00:08:49.29\00:08:50.76 Do you know 00:08:50.76\00:08:52.53 that God is pleased with you? 00:08:52.53\00:08:55.13 >> Look at this very 00:08:55.13\00:08:56.26 encouraging quote from a book 00:08:56.26\00:08:58.00 on the life of Jesus called 00:08:58.00\00:08:59.73 The Desire of Ages: 00:08:59.73\00:09:01.87 After teaching high school for 00:09:13.11\00:09:15.12 so many years, I know that lots 00:09:15.12\00:09:17.65 of young people have a hard 00:09:17.65\00:09:19.55 time believing 00:09:19.55\00:09:20.96 that God is pleased with them. 00:09:20.96\00:09:22.96 >> But it's true. 00:09:22.96\00:09:24.16 God is well pleased with you. 00:09:24.16\00:09:26.03 >> Now some have said, 00:09:26.03\00:09:27.60 "No, God can't be pleased" 00:09:27.60\00:09:29.60 "with me." 00:09:29.60\00:09:30.47 >> No, God is pleased with you. 00:09:30.47\00:09:33.00 >> However, when God says He is 00:09:33.00\00:09:35.60 pleased me, that does not mean 00:09:35.60\00:09:37.81 He is pleased with my sin. 00:09:37.81\00:09:39.97 >> Mm-mm, God hates sin. 00:09:39.97\00:09:41.68 But you are not your sin. 00:09:41.68\00:09:44.68 >> God hates sin, but He loves 00:09:44.68\00:09:47.15 the sinner. 00:09:47.15\00:09:48.35 He loves you. 00:09:48.35\00:09:50.15 >> Yes, you see, God knows that 00:09:50.15\00:09:52.09 sin is the deadliest 00:09:52.09\00:09:54.16 of cancers. 00:09:54.16\00:09:55.02 So He is like an oncologist 00:09:55.02\00:09:57.33 whose goal is to eradicate 00:09:57.33\00:09:59.03 the cancer in order to 00:09:59.03\00:10:00.83 save the patient. 00:10:00.83\00:10:02.83 >> So when we say that God is 00:10:02.83\00:10:04.60 pleased with you, we are saying 00:10:04.60\00:10:06.87 you are not your sin. 00:10:06.87\00:10:09.14 Sin is not your identity. 00:10:09.14\00:10:11.51 You are a child of God. 00:10:11.51\00:10:13.68 That is your identity. 00:10:13.68\00:10:15.74 And God is pleased with you 00:10:15.74\00:10:18.51 as His beloved child. 00:10:18.51\00:10:20.95 Look at this affirmation from 00:10:20.95\00:10:22.45 God's word: 00:10:22.45\00:10:24.02 >> God loves you as His child 00:10:34.13\00:10:36.63 and He hates sin because sin 00:10:36.63\00:10:38.80 destroys the real you. 00:10:38.80\00:10:41.00 Think about it. 00:10:41.00\00:10:41.80 Take any sin, 00:10:41.80\00:10:42.67 take lying for example. 00:10:42.67\00:10:44.74 If you lie, 00:10:44.74\00:10:46.27 you are not being you. 00:10:46.27\00:10:48.78 All sin is really like that. 00:10:48.78\00:10:51.48 It destroys the real you. 00:10:51.48\00:10:53.95 But this leaves God with 00:10:53.95\00:10:56.18 a very big problem. 00:10:56.18\00:10:58.49 >> What problem? 00:10:58.49\00:10:59.59 >> It's a deep problem 00:10:59.59\00:11:01.52 and here it is: 00:11:01.52\00:11:02.82 >> So that which God hates the 00:11:08.06\00:11:10.07 most is sin. 00:11:10.07\00:11:11.40 >> Correct. 00:11:11.40\00:11:12.47 >> And that which God hates 00:11:12.47\00:11:14.80 the most, sin, is inside that 00:11:14.80\00:11:17.81 which God loves the most, which 00:11:17.81\00:11:20.14 is you and me, His children. 00:11:20.14\00:11:21.81 >> Yes. 00:11:21.81\00:11:23.18 Sin is like a deadly virus and 00:11:23.18\00:11:25.45 it's inside of each one of us. 00:11:25.45\00:11:27.45 But God's problem is even 00:11:27.45\00:11:29.35 bigger than that though. 00:11:29.35\00:11:31.02 >> It is? 00:11:31.02\00:11:32.09 >> Yes it is. 00:11:32.09\00:11:33.72 Here it is: 00:11:33.72\00:11:34.86 >> That is a bigger problem. 00:11:42.30\00:11:44.57 >> Much bigger. 00:11:44.57\00:11:45.70 >> That which God loves the 00:11:45.70\00:11:47.00 most, you and me, His children 00:11:47.00\00:11:50.01 we are in love with that which 00:11:50.01\00:11:51.67 God hates the most 00:11:51.67\00:11:53.14 which is sin. 00:11:53.14\00:11:54.44 >> Correct. 00:11:54.44\00:11:55.54 >> So God's big problem is 00:11:55.54\00:11:57.68 how does He get you and me 00:11:57.68\00:12:00.88 to not be in love with sin? 00:12:00.88\00:12:03.25 >> How does He get us to 00:12:03.25\00:12:04.52 exercise the power of choice to 00:12:04.52\00:12:07.29 willingly, decisively let go of 00:12:07.29\00:12:10.06 sin and never want to 00:12:10.06\00:12:11.43 touch it again? 00:12:11.43\00:12:12.63 >> It's really the same problem 00:12:12.63\00:12:14.83 as the father who loves his 00:12:14.83\00:12:16.97 teenage son 00:12:16.97\00:12:18.60 who is addicted to drugs. 00:12:18.60\00:12:20.17 The father hates the drugs, 00:12:20.17\00:12:21.84 he hates the addiction, 00:12:21.84\00:12:23.61 but he loves his son. 00:12:23.61\00:12:25.84 >> It's a big problem when you 00:12:25.84\00:12:27.64 love the very things that are 00:12:27.64\00:12:29.51 holding you back, enslaving you 00:12:29.51\00:12:32.05 and even destroying your life. 00:12:32.05\00:12:34.45 >> You hate what they 00:12:34.45\00:12:35.68 are doing to you, 00:12:35.68\00:12:37.42 but you can't let them go. 00:12:37.42\00:12:39.55 >> Anyone whose job it is to 00:12:39.55\00:12:41.92 help people knows that you 00:12:41.92\00:12:44.23 can't help anyone who is not 00:12:44.23\00:12:46.70 willing to be helped. 00:12:46.70\00:12:48.16 >> Right. 00:12:48.16\00:12:49.06 And here is the key 00:12:49.06\00:12:51.10 to being decisive. 00:12:51.10\00:12:52.23 Here is the key to changing 00:12:52.23\00:12:53.87 your life. 00:12:53.87\00:12:55.04 You have to discover that you 00:12:55.04\00:12:56.81 have an urgent need. 00:12:56.81\00:12:59.34 >> Yes, when you discover that 00:12:59.34\00:13:01.38 you have an urgent need, 00:13:01.38\00:13:03.28 you tend to become decisive 00:13:03.28\00:13:05.51 about resolving that need. 00:13:05.51\00:13:07.68 >> Look at all the people who 00:13:07.68\00:13:08.68 came to Jesus. 00:13:08.68\00:13:09.95 They all had urgent needs. 00:13:09.95\00:13:12.72 Let me take you back to 00:13:12.72\00:13:13.82 Paul Henderson, the Canadian 00:13:13.82\00:13:15.22 hockey legend who scored the 00:13:15.22\00:13:16.42 winning goal against the Soviets 00:13:16.42\00:13:18.16 in the Summit Series with 00:13:18.16\00:13:19.83 thirty-four seconds left on the 00:13:19.83\00:13:21.50 clock in Game 8. 00:13:21.50\00:13:23.26 Remember I said that he was 00:13:23.26\00:13:24.60 so decisive? 00:13:24.60\00:13:25.93 Well, he was so decisive about 00:13:25.93\00:13:27.94 his life until the success and 00:13:27.94\00:13:31.04 fame was not enough. 00:13:31.04\00:13:33.64 Listen to his story 00:13:33.64\00:13:35.41 in his own words: 00:13:35.41\00:13:37.21 >> Scoring the winning goal in 00:13:40.05\00:13:41.65 the last game with thirty-four 00:13:41.65\00:13:42.75 seconds left has given me 00:13:42.75\00:13:45.52 an incredible identity and 00:13:45.52\00:13:47.36 it's been a wonderful ride. 00:13:47.36\00:13:49.16 We really felt it was our way 00:13:49.16\00:13:50.86 of life against their way of 00:13:50.86\00:13:52.23 life back in '72 00:13:52.23\00:13:53.33 and so it was a wonderful, 00:13:53.33\00:13:54.20 satisfying feeling. 00:13:54.20\00:13:55.36 As a kid growing up, I figured 00:13:55.36\00:13:56.53 if you had money, you had a 00:13:56.53\00:13:57.87 great marriage, and you had a 00:13:57.87\00:13:59.17 career you really liked, 00:13:59.17\00:14:00.27 I mean, what else could 00:14:00.27\00:14:01.57 there be? 00:14:01.57\00:14:02.04 You have all those things then 00:14:02.27\00:14:02.97 you can go enjoy the good life. 00:14:02.97\00:14:04.91 And now I had all of those 00:14:04.91\00:14:06.21 things, now I was the 00:14:06.21\00:14:07.28 toast of the country, 00:14:07.28\00:14:08.18 but I knew there was something 00:14:08.18\00:14:09.54 missing and I would 00:14:09.54\00:14:10.21 say to my wife, 00:14:10.21\00:14:11.08 "There's something missing." 00:14:11.08\00:14:12.78 "There's an angst in my life." 00:14:12.78\00:14:14.12 A guy, the name of Mel Stevens, 00:14:14.12\00:14:15.38 knocked on my door one day and 00:14:15.38\00:14:16.55 asked me to work at his 00:14:16.55\00:14:17.55 hockey school. 00:14:17.55\00:14:18.35 I had no spiritual dimension to 00:14:18.35\00:14:20.26 my life at this point. 00:14:20.26\00:14:21.22 Well, he said to me, 00:14:21.22\00:14:22.06 "Paul, you learn to live" 00:14:22.06\00:14:23.43 "lightly and freely," 00:14:23.43\00:14:24.43 "but you've got to get to" 00:14:24.43\00:14:25.46 "know who Jesus is." 00:14:25.46\00:14:26.83 He said he prayed for me for 00:14:26.83\00:14:27.96 four years before he had enough 00:14:27.96\00:14:29.43 courage to come and 00:14:29.43\00:14:30.03 knock on my door 00:14:30.03\00:14:31.00 and it was really 00:14:31.00\00:14:31.73 interesting after I became a 00:14:31.73\00:14:32.77 Christian and became public, 00:14:32.77\00:14:34.17 I received letters from four 00:14:34.17\00:14:35.50 people that God had laid it on 00:14:35.50\00:14:37.67 their hearts to be praying for 00:14:37.67\00:14:38.77 me and they said, 00:14:38.77\00:14:39.81 "Paul, I just want to let you" 00:14:39.81\00:14:41.01 "know that God laid you on my" 00:14:41.01\00:14:42.01 "heart, but I've been praying" 00:14:42.01\00:14:43.21 "for you for four years." 00:14:43.21\00:14:45.38 You know, that absolutely 00:14:45.38\00:14:47.42 blew me away. 00:14:47.42\00:14:48.92 Now it took him two years 00:14:48.92\00:14:50.42 to help me to really grasp 00:14:50.42\00:14:52.49 and understand the things, 00:14:52.49\00:14:53.46 but the good news of that is, 00:14:53.46\00:14:55.09 taking that much time when 00:14:55.09\00:14:56.26 I became a Christian, 00:14:56.26\00:14:57.86 I've never taken a 00:14:57.86\00:14:58.73 backwards step. 00:14:58.73\00:14:59.56 I became convinced that Christ 00:14:59.56\00:15:01.20 was who He said He was 00:15:01.20\00:15:02.33 and He was worthy to follow. 00:15:02.33\00:15:03.90 We were in Birmingham, Alabama 00:15:03.90\00:15:05.03 and a guy by the name of 00:15:05.03\00:15:05.93 John Bradford got me into a 00:15:05.93\00:15:07.67 men's group and he became my 00:15:07.67\00:15:09.94 mentor for three years and he 00:15:09.94\00:15:11.94 modelled what it was to 00:15:11.94\00:15:13.58 have a dynamic relationship 00:15:13.58\00:15:14.98 with the Lord. 00:15:14.98\00:15:15.78 He was a very successful 00:15:15.78\00:15:16.81 businessman, 00:15:16.81\00:15:17.71 but he loved the Lord. 00:15:17.71\00:15:19.18 And then after three years the 00:15:19.18\00:15:20.15 pastor and John came to me 00:15:20.15\00:15:21.45 and says, "Paul, you need to 00:15:21.45\00:15:22.72 lead other people." 00:15:22.72\00:15:23.75 I can't do that. 00:15:23.75\00:15:24.82 I haven't been a Christian long 00:15:24.82\00:15:26.09 enough, but sometimes you need 00:15:26.09\00:15:27.52 people to have, you know, faith 00:15:27.52\00:15:29.22 in you. 00:15:29.22\00:15:29.82 And so in '85 I started with 00:15:29.89\00:15:31.59 three men in Toronto and 00:15:31.59\00:15:33.63 we grew it from there and 00:15:33.63\00:15:35.00 now we've got over 700 men 00:15:35.00\00:15:37.17 that meet weekly in small 00:15:37.17\00:15:38.67 groups and you work out what 00:15:38.67\00:15:40.24 does it mean to walk with the 00:15:40.24\00:15:41.14 Lord in a day-to-day basis. 00:15:41.14\00:15:43.10 And obviously trying to raise 00:15:43.10\00:15:44.24 up leaders. 00:15:44.24\00:15:45.14 And the really neat thing about 00:15:45.14\00:15:46.64 today is when I look over my 00:15:46.64\00:15:47.68 shoulder I can see some of the 00:15:47.68\00:15:48.88 guys that I've led to the Lord, 00:15:48.88\00:15:50.61 got them in groups and now 00:15:50.61\00:15:51.68 they're better leaders 00:15:51.68\00:15:52.65 than I am. 00:15:52.65\00:15:53.38 One of our best leaders, 00:15:53.38\00:15:54.15 one of our guys invited them 00:15:54.15\00:15:55.45 seven years in a row 00:15:55.45\00:15:57.29 before he came out. 00:15:57.29\00:15:58.75 He finally came out and now 00:15:58.75\00:15:59.79 he's just a dynamic leader. 00:15:59.79\00:16:01.86 Have an incredible influence in 00:16:01.86\00:16:03.56 the Oakville area. 00:16:03.56\00:16:04.46 You never give up. 00:16:04.46\00:16:05.39 You never know when the person 00:16:05.39\00:16:07.56 might be ready next. 00:16:07.56\00:16:08.66 And that's what I try to tell 00:16:08.66\00:16:10.17 all my friends. 00:16:10.17\00:16:11.13 When they invite people out to 00:16:11.13\00:16:12.13 events and their buddies don't 00:16:12.13\00:16:13.74 come, I said, "Don't give up." 00:16:13.74\00:16:15.50 "Invite them again next year." 00:16:15.50\00:16:16.84 It's so satisfying to look over 00:16:16.84\00:16:18.51 your shoulder and see 00:16:18.51\00:16:20.98 changed lives behind you. 00:16:20.98\00:16:22.48 Hopefully we can get 00:16:22.48\00:16:23.48 a bunch more and change 00:16:23.48\00:16:24.51 the whole country. 00:16:24.51\00:16:25.68 Christianity is a 00:16:25.68\00:16:27.72 dichotomy in a lot of ways. 00:16:27.72\00:16:29.18 It's sort of an oxymoron. 00:16:29.18\00:16:30.45 You want to get rich? 00:16:30.45\00:16:31.35 Give it away. 00:16:31.35\00:16:32.29 You want to enjoy your life? 00:16:32.29\00:16:33.69 Give it to the Lord. 00:16:33.69\00:16:34.76 There's that little song, 00:16:34.76\00:16:35.62 "All for Jesus, all I am" 00:16:35.62\00:16:37.59 "and have and ever hope to be" 00:16:37.59\00:16:38.76 "All my ambitions," 00:16:38.76\00:16:40.16 "hopes and plans." 00:16:40.16\00:16:41.16 "I surrender these" 00:16:41.16\00:16:42.26 "and to your plans." 00:16:42.26\00:16:43.77 God has called us to be 00:16:43.77\00:16:44.77 ambassadors and that's what 00:16:44.77\00:16:46.30 I've chosen to do. 00:16:46.30\00:16:47.44 Initially, I thought I was 00:16:47.44\00:16:48.67 making a tremendous sacrifice 00:16:48.67\00:16:51.47 to come into ministry 00:16:51.47\00:16:53.01 and, you know, after a while 00:16:53.01\00:16:54.28 you recognize you can never 00:16:54.28\00:16:55.91 sacrifice the Lord. 00:16:55.91\00:16:57.15 He always goes above and beyond 00:16:57.15\00:16:59.18 anything you could ever give. 00:16:59.18\00:17:00.88 I've told my wife, "When I 00:17:00.88\00:17:02.68 start to lose it, just take" 00:17:02.68\00:17:03.89 "me by the hand and say," 00:17:03.89\00:17:05.25 'Paul, maybe we should just' 00:17:05.25\00:17:06.25 'go for a little walk here.'" 00:17:06.25\00:17:08.39 But as long as I can 00:17:08.39\00:17:09.42 or I'm effective, 00:17:09.42\00:17:11.33 then I would love to continue 00:17:11.33\00:17:13.46 just doing what I'm doing. 00:17:13.46\00:17:14.86 And so I just-- 00:17:14.86\00:17:16.46 I'm anticipative of the future. 00:17:16.46\00:17:18.50 I'm anticipative of the 00:17:18.50\00:17:19.77 opportunities that's 00:17:19.77\00:17:21.00 going to bring and so 00:17:21.00\00:17:22.80 take today and give it your 00:17:22.80\00:17:24.11 best shot and wake up tomorrow, 00:17:24.11\00:17:26.24 do the same thing tomorrow. 00:17:26.24\00:17:28.08 >> What impresses me about 00:17:33.98\00:17:35.82 Paul Henderson's story is how 00:17:35.82\00:17:37.15 Mel Stevens saw the urgent need 00:17:37.15\00:17:39.55 of a professional hockey player 00:17:39.55\00:17:42.02 he didn't even know personally. 00:17:42.02\00:17:44.39 He saw how unhappy he was 00:17:44.39\00:17:46.66 and he had enough compassion 00:17:46.66\00:17:48.83 to first start praying for him, 00:17:48.83\00:17:51.13 relying on God's power before 00:17:51.13\00:17:53.40 he decided to kick it up a 00:17:53.40\00:17:55.00 notch and knock on Paul's door, 00:17:55.00\00:17:58.07 give him a Bible, and lead him 00:17:58.07\00:18:00.18 to Jesus. 00:18:00.18\00:18:01.78 >> You know, Mel's decisive 00:18:01.78\00:18:03.24 actions that day remind me of 00:18:03.24\00:18:05.01 your decisive actions when our 00:18:05.01\00:18:07.18 friend Daniella's daughter 00:18:07.18\00:18:08.85 was dying 00:18:08.85\00:18:10.39 and you had called me, 00:18:10.39\00:18:12.12 I just came back from work 00:18:12.12\00:18:13.79 and I remember her 00:18:13.79\00:18:14.92 little baby's name was Amber 00:18:14.92\00:18:16.59 and I came home from work one 00:18:16.59\00:18:18.83 day and you said to me, 00:18:18.83\00:18:20.43 "Amber is dying." 00:18:20.43\00:18:21.36 Which I knew already, 00:18:21.36\00:18:22.53 but you said, 00:18:22.53\00:18:23.47 "You have to do something!" 00:18:23.47\00:18:24.80 I'm like, "What am I supposed" 00:18:24.80\00:18:26.00 "to do? I'm not a doctor and" 00:18:26.00\00:18:27.97 "the doctors can't heal her" 00:18:27.97\00:18:29.07 "and I'm not God so" 00:18:29.07\00:18:30.21 "what am I supposed to do?" 00:18:30.21\00:18:32.64 >> Amber was two years old, 00:18:32.64\00:18:34.51 but she looked like a newborn 00:18:34.51\00:18:35.94 baby because her digestive 00:18:35.94\00:18:37.48 system did not work properly 00:18:37.48\00:18:39.21 from the time she was born. 00:18:39.21\00:18:41.45 So she was in the hospital 00:18:41.45\00:18:43.18 more than she was at home. 00:18:43.18\00:18:45.65 One day I called Amber's mother 00:18:45.65\00:18:47.56 and Amber's grandmother 00:18:47.56\00:18:49.09 answered the phone. 00:18:49.09\00:18:50.86 She told me that the doctors 00:18:50.86\00:18:52.76 told her Amber would likely die 00:18:52.76\00:18:54.96 overnight because her little 00:18:54.96\00:18:56.97 body was not able to take up 00:18:56.97\00:18:58.93 any more nutrition. 00:18:58.93\00:19:00.97 So when you came home from 00:19:00.97\00:19:02.94 work that night, I say to you, 00:19:02.94\00:19:05.04 "You have to do something!" 00:19:05.04\00:19:06.64 >> And what was I 00:19:06.64\00:19:07.38 supposed to do? 00:19:07.38\00:19:08.28 You told me, "Oh, why don't" 00:19:08.28\00:19:09.51 "you do an anointing?" 00:19:09.51\00:19:10.45 I'm like, "I can't do an" 00:19:10.45\00:19:11.68 "anointing because" 00:19:11.68\00:19:12.95 " we have to get permission" 00:19:12.95\00:19:13.88 "from the parents." 00:19:13.88\00:19:14.68 >> So I immediately called the 00:19:14.68\00:19:16.32 grandmother and she said, 00:19:16.32\00:19:17.85 "You have my permission to" 00:19:17.85\00:19:19.45 "anoint her because the" 00:19:19.45\00:19:20.79 "doctors have given up hope." 00:19:20.79\00:19:22.99 And she hoped 00:19:22.99\00:19:24.09 that it would work. 00:19:24.09\00:19:25.93 >> So I called the head elder 00:19:25.93\00:19:27.36 of our church. 00:19:27.36\00:19:28.36 It was like eleven o'clock at 00:19:28.36\00:19:29.60 night and I asked Wally if he 00:19:29.60\00:19:31.10 could meet me at the entrance 00:19:31.10\00:19:32.57 of the hospital. 00:19:32.57\00:19:33.84 He agreed to do that and so 00:19:33.84\00:19:34.87 the two of us, we walked into 00:19:34.87\00:19:36.87 the hospital to that upstairs 00:19:36.87\00:19:39.07 intensive care ward and I asked 00:19:39.07\00:19:41.81 the nurse on duty where Amber 00:19:41.81\00:19:43.28 was and she pointed to this 00:19:43.28\00:19:45.61 little baby who was basically 00:19:45.61\00:19:47.52 skin and bones. 00:19:47.52\00:19:49.55 She could hardly breathe. 00:19:49.55\00:19:51.29 And Wally and I immediately 00:19:51.29\00:19:52.82 looked into each other's eyes 00:19:52.82\00:19:54.66 and they were filled 00:19:54.66\00:19:55.52 with tears, 00:19:55.52\00:19:56.52 mine and his as well. 00:19:56.52\00:19:58.06 And I opened up my Bible and I 00:19:58.06\00:20:00.30 began to read the following 00:20:00.30\00:20:03.00 words from the book of James 00:20:03.00\00:20:04.57 chapter 5, verses 14 and 15 00:20:04.57\00:20:06.60 and it says this: 00:20:06.60\00:20:08.24 And then I said to Wally, 00:20:24.79\00:20:26.45 "Well, here's the oil" 00:20:26.45\00:20:27.96 "and I want you to pray first" 00:20:27.96\00:20:29.92 "and then I will pray next and" 00:20:29.92\00:20:32.19 "I will anoint Amber with oil." 00:20:32.19\00:20:34.56 "And I believe if it is God's" 00:20:34.56\00:20:36.50 "will then Amber will be" 00:20:36.50\00:20:38.70 "healed this evening." 00:20:38.70\00:20:39.97 "What do you think, Wally?" 00:20:39.97\00:20:41.37 And so he said to me, 00:20:41.37\00:20:42.47 "Well, I agree" 00:20:42.47\00:20:43.67 "if it is God's will." 00:20:43.67\00:20:45.14 And then he started praying 00:20:45.14\00:20:47.44 through his tears and 00:20:47.44\00:20:48.64 afterwards I was praying 00:20:48.64\00:20:49.68 through my tears, too 00:20:49.68\00:20:51.45 and before I finished praying, 00:20:51.45\00:20:54.15 Amber opened her eyes 00:20:54.15\00:20:56.52 and she raised her little head 00:20:56.52\00:20:58.52 and it made me open my eyes 00:20:58.52\00:21:00.16 as well and she looked at me. 00:21:00.16\00:21:02.26 And she looked as if she wanted 00:21:02.26\00:21:04.23 to say something to me. 00:21:04.23\00:21:06.13 And then she put her little 00:21:06.13\00:21:07.36 head down and 00:21:07.36\00:21:09.33 she closed her eyes again. 00:21:09.33\00:21:11.07 >> The next day, the doctors 00:21:11.07\00:21:12.57 found a healthy little girl 00:21:12.57\00:21:14.34 who continued to grow and heal 00:21:14.34\00:21:16.30 from the time that you and 00:21:16.30\00:21:17.51 Wally went to anoint her 00:21:17.51\00:21:19.47 in the hospital. 00:21:19.47\00:21:21.54 And Amber's mother spoke to you 00:21:21.54\00:21:23.65 and thanked you for praying for 00:21:23.65\00:21:25.48 Amber because she said, 00:21:25.48\00:21:27.98 "If you did not pray" 00:21:27.98\00:21:29.68 "for my daughter," 00:21:29.68\00:21:31.35 "she would not be alive today." 00:21:31.35\00:21:33.36 >> And I told her that I was 00:21:33.36\00:21:35.16 only doing what the Bible told 00:21:35.16\00:21:36.83 me to do and that when we put 00:21:36.83\00:21:39.69 our faith in the word of God, 00:21:39.69\00:21:41.53 we have nothing to worry about 00:21:41.53\00:21:43.16 because God's word is 00:21:43.16\00:21:44.23 life-giving. 00:21:44.23\00:21:46.03 What really impressed me about 00:21:46.03\00:21:48.47 that experience was how you 00:21:48.47\00:21:52.04 were so insistent that I call 00:21:52.04\00:21:54.41 Amber or go and pray-- 00:21:54.41\00:21:55.88 call her parents or her 00:21:55.88\00:21:57.25 grandmother. 00:21:57.25\00:21:58.65 And because of your 00:21:58.65\00:22:00.25 persistence, because you were 00:22:00.25\00:22:01.15 so decisive 00:22:01.15\00:22:02.28 that impressed me. 00:22:02.28\00:22:04.32 >> There is a song that has 00:22:04.32\00:22:05.92 very deep, serious, and
