い い 00:00:00.80\00:00:12.04 >> It has stood the test of time, God's book, 00:00:12.04\00:00:17.31 the Bible, still relevant in today's complex world. 00:00:17.31\00:00:24.89 "It Is Written," sharing messages of hope 00:00:24.89\00:00:29.09 around the world. い 00:00:29.09\00:00:39.70 >> Hello, and thank you for joining us on 00:00:39.70\00:00:41.44 "It Is Written Canada." It is the Christmas season, 00:00:41.44\00:00:44.94 a time of joy, a time of gladness, 00:00:44.94\00:00:47.98 and a time of giving, and why do we think of giving 00:00:47.98\00:00:51.68 at this time of the year? Well, it's really two words, 00:00:51.68\00:00:54.42 and those two words are "God gave." 00:00:54.42\00:00:57.49 God gave us life. He gave us existence, 00:00:57.49\00:00:59.85 and most of all, He gave us His Son, 00:00:59.85\00:01:02.42 and we think of the coming of Jesus at this time of the year. 00:01:02.42\00:01:05.49 It's called Christmas after all because 00:01:05.49\00:01:08.26 Christ came to this world, and Jesus Himself told us, 00:01:08.26\00:01:12.07 "It is more blessed to give than to receive." 00:01:12.07\00:01:16.34 And so we have with us two very special guests 00:01:16.34\00:01:19.17 here in the studio. We have Steve Matthews, 00:01:19.17\00:01:21.88 who is the executive director of ADRA Canada. 00:01:21.88\00:01:26.35 >> And we also have Anita Odondi, who is the 00:01:26.35\00:01:30.32 emergency program director of ADRA Canada. 00:01:30.32\00:01:34.06 So thank you very much for joining us today, and welcome, and we feel honored 00:01:34.09\00:01:38.79 to have you here with us today. >> Thank you. >> Thank you very 00:01:38.79\00:01:42.13 much. >> So, Steve, I want to start with you. As the executive 00:01:42.13\00:01:46.30 director of ADRA Canada, how did you come to ADRA, and also, 00:01:46.30\00:01:51.11 why do you do this job? >> Sure. Well, I worked as 00:01:51.11\00:01:55.58 an environmental engineer. It's my background, and as a project 00:01:55.58\00:01:59.55 manager, and about 2 years ago, I was contacted by one of the members of the board 00:01:59.55\00:02:04.45 of directors for ADRA Canada who asked me to put my name forward 00:02:04.45\00:02:08.22 for the executive director position. Through a lot of prayer and consideration, 00:02:08.22\00:02:14.10 I did want to be able to take the skills that I had learned through my career and apply them 00:02:14.10\00:02:18.97 more toward working full time for the Lord. When this opportunity came up, 00:02:18.97\00:02:22.94 I thought, you know, "Here is kind of an answer to prayer," and we did pray, as a family, 00:02:22.94\00:02:28.84 about this opportunity, and here I am. >> So what does ADRA do? 00:02:28.84\00:02:35.18 >> ADRA is the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. We're the humanitarian arm 00:02:35.18\00:02:41.09 of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and we operate as 00:02:41.09\00:02:44.56 a worldwide network. We actually are in about -- anywhere from 00:02:44.56\00:02:48.86 about 130 to 140 countries around the world. It fluctuates depending on what's going on 00:02:48.86\00:02:54.04 in different parts of the world. >> Mm-hmm. >> And, Anita, 00:02:54.04\00:02:57.31 what is ADRA's mission? >> ADRA's mission is to serve humanity so all may live 00:02:57.31\00:03:03.88 as God intended, and we do this through justice, compassion, and 00:03:03.88\00:03:10.25 love so that the people who are underprivileged can live having 00:03:10.25\00:03:14.66 the basic needs of life to survive, and the people who are more privileged have the 00:03:14.66\00:03:19.79 opportunity to serve those in need, to give. >> Mm-hmm. Just like Mike said, it's all 00:03:19.79\00:03:24.77 about we live to give, right? >> Yes. >> Mm-hmm. 00:03:24.77\00:03:27.24 >> And when we give, we're so much more blessed ourselves 00:03:27.24\00:03:31.77 through giving. >> So, tell us, Anita, why are you a part of ADRA Canada, and tell us some of 00:03:31.77\00:03:36.41 the, maybe, experiences you've had. >> I am blessed to be part 00:03:36.41\00:03:42.12 of ADRA Canada, and I have worked only with ADRA all my life. 19 years ago, when I was 00:03:42.12\00:03:48.82 about to graduate from the Adventist University in Kenya, I needed to do my internship, 00:03:48.82\00:03:56.20 so I joined ADRA Uganda, which is my home country, for my 00:03:56.20\00:04:02.14 internship, and I worked -- I got the opportunity to work in the programs department, and 00:04:02.14\00:04:08.71 we had an H.I.V./AIDS project. When I went to the field and spoke with the mothers 00:04:08.71\00:04:17.85 and children who had been infected with H.I.V. and some of 00:04:17.85\00:04:23.49 them now had AIDS, they were sick, ADRA was giving them hope. ADRA was teaching them 00:04:23.49\00:04:28.40 a healthier living style so that their immunity can be better. 00:04:28.40\00:04:34.10 ADRA was giving them livelihood opportunities so that they were able to earn income 00:04:34.10\00:04:41.08 and not resort to negative coping strategies of life. I thought that this is 00:04:41.08\00:04:47.58 what I want to do. I was touched by the fact that there was hope 00:04:47.58\00:04:51.99 in a hopeless situation -- >> Hopeless situation, I mean, they 00:04:51.99\00:04:55.49 have AIDS. They're going to die. >> That was the thought then. It's no longer that today, 00:04:55.49\00:05:00.80 but yes, it was a death sentence then. If you got AIDS, 00:05:00.80\00:05:04.77 the next thing would be to dig your grave basically, but ADRA 00:05:04.77\00:05:09.84 was helping to stop that from happening. >> So how long would a person be expected to live now 00:05:09.84\00:05:16.88 with AIDS? >> Right now, if you have H.I.V., it will very rarely transition to AIDS because AIDS 00:05:16.88\00:05:22.75 is when the symptoms begin to come out. H.I.V. is just having 00:05:22.75\00:05:28.46 the virus, but you can live for as long as anyone who is not infected with H.I.V. will live. 00:05:28.46\00:05:34.03 >> Wow. >> There's medication, and there's much more research 00:05:34.03\00:05:38.67 and solutions that have come. >> Mm-hmm. >> So when you started 00:05:38.67\00:05:42.67 working with these moms and children that were infected with H.I.V., it just touched your 00:05:42.67\00:05:48.21 heart, and you knew this is something that you wanted to do 00:05:48.21\00:05:52.05 as a life work and as a ministry. So how did you end up in Canada from Uganda? 00:05:52.05\00:05:57.09 >> Yes, so after -- I worked with ADRA Uganda for about 6 years in this project, 00:05:57.09\00:06:04.63 which was a great opportunity because it prepared me for the 00:06:04.63\00:06:10.23 other ADRAs that God called me to work. From Uganda, my husband and I moved to the Philippines 00:06:10.23\00:06:16.60 because he had to do his master's, and I got to work with 00:06:16.60\00:06:20.34 ADRA Philippines. After that, God called us to ADRA Indonesia. 00:06:20.34\00:06:25.68 After that -- And each one was about a year and a half to 2 years. After ADRA Indonesia, 00:06:25.68\00:06:30.49 we went to ADRA Myanmar, and this is where I began to work in the emergency response 00:06:30.49\00:06:38.73 because there was the typhoon -- There was the typhoons 00:06:38.73\00:06:42.90 and cyclones, and then after Myanmar was Haiti, the earthquake that happened in 00:06:42.90\00:06:47.77 2010, and after Haiti, Canada. And I say God called us to work in these countries because 00:06:47.77\00:06:55.91 literally each country -- We were just informed, "Would you guys like to come here," 00:06:55.91\00:07:02.25 or "We need you guys to come here." So God has been working 00:07:02.25\00:07:06.05 all through, and I'm blessed that it's been with ADRA. 00:07:06.05\00:07:10.39 >> Mm-hmm. >> So one of the things that ADRA does is 00:07:10.39\00:07:13.53 advocate on behalf of education for children, and so we are 00:07:13.53\00:07:17.93 going to watch a little video right now, and then we'll come back after the break and talk 00:07:17.93\00:07:22.44 about that video. 00:07:22.44\00:07:23.97 >> So, after looking at that short video clip, we can see 00:09:44.25\00:09:49.22 that ADRA's main focus, or special focus, is on education. So why education, Steve? 00:09:49.22\00:09:55.56 >> Well, when you look at some of the challenges around the world and some of those keys 00:09:55.56\00:10:00.13 for unlocking poverty, we see that education is very instrumental in that. 00:10:00.13\00:10:06.40 So right now, there about 262 million children around the 00:10:06.40\00:10:09.84 world that are out of school. When you don't have an education, and you don't 00:10:09.84\00:10:15.04 have access to education, it becomes very difficult to get out of the cycle of poverty. 00:10:15.04\00:10:21.28 So I mentioned earlier that I spent my time -- the early part 00:10:21.28\00:10:25.29 of my career as a project manager, and what I did was 00:10:25.29\00:10:28.32 build schools. I built schools in Newfoundland, is where I spent my career for that part. 00:10:28.32\00:10:34.36 When we built a school, the school would -- I remember 00:10:34.36\00:10:38.23 building a high school, and this high school had a day care in 00:10:38.23\00:10:41.40 it, and at the time, I asked, you know, "Why is a day care designed in the school?" 00:10:41.40\00:10:46.14 And it was actually there for the students, so it was there 00:10:46.14\00:10:49.38 for the young mothers that became pregnant and still wanted to get an education, 00:10:49.38\00:10:54.95 and thankfully, in Canada, we have that access. Getting pregnant doesn't mean 00:10:54.95\00:11:00.82 that's the end of the education for the mother. So, 2 weeks ago 00:11:00.82\00:11:06.36 I was in Rwanda, and while visiting there, I met with a teen mothers group. In this 00:11:06.36\00:11:13.17 community, in their culture, when a mother -- When a young 00:11:13.17\00:11:16.94 lady becomes pregnant, especially out of wedlock, they're actually basically 00:11:16.94\00:11:23.48 sent out of the community. They were telling me about an island 00:11:23.48\00:11:27.92 that was -- They were close to the border with Tanzania, and there was an island 00:11:27.92\00:11:34.12 where they would put the mothers off on this island when they 00:11:34.12\00:11:38.06 become pregnant. The thing about it is it was waters that were also filled with crocodiles, 00:11:38.06\00:11:42.40 and so if they were eaten by crocodiles, that was their 00:11:42.40\00:11:46.33 sentence. That's how things went for them. So when I met with these young ladies, 00:11:46.33\00:11:50.11 there were 12 young ladies between the ages of 15 and 18. I asked, "How many of you 00:11:50.11\00:11:56.48 are in school now?" And it was -- The answer was zero. 00:11:56.48\00:12:00.75 I asked, "How many of you, with the fathers of your children, 00:12:00.75\00:12:03.95 are involved in your lives?" And the answer again was zero. And then I said, "How many of 00:12:03.95\00:12:09.36 you would like to go to school?" And everyone of them put their 00:12:09.36\00:12:13.46 hand up to say they wanted to go to school, but they don't have that access, and these are some 00:12:13.46\00:12:18.67 of the barriers that, at ADRA, we try to break down. It's to 00:12:18.67\00:12:22.97 break down those barriers that prevent young people from being able to go to school. 00:12:22.97\00:12:26.74 If every girl were able to get an education, there would be a 00:12:26.74\00:12:32.61 reduction of about 50 percent of child deaths, 64 percent of 00:12:32.61\00:12:38.25 young children being married off, and these are 11-, 12-, 13-year-old children 00:12:38.25\00:12:42.19 who are married off to men sometimes 50, 60 years old. >> 00:12:42.19\00:12:46.46 Oh, boy. >> And then also a reduction of almost 60 percent of teenage pregnancies. 00:12:46.46\00:12:53.03 That's why we focus on education. Another area is when 00:12:53.03\00:12:57.44 we look at refugee situations. When we look at refugees, they are five times less likely 00:12:57.44\00:13:04.25 to have access to education. >> Education. >> And the specific 00:13:04.25\00:13:10.52 things that we do for education includes school construction and 00:13:10.52\00:13:16.86 teacher training in the formal sector, but we also have refugees, as Steve said, who are 00:13:16.86\00:13:23.93 -- their children, their needs are in their home country system, and they are not in the 00:13:23.93\00:13:29.04 new country system. So there are transition centers, for example, 00:13:29.04\00:13:34.34 where we provide training for the refugees, and in the refugee camps and settlements, 00:13:34.34\00:13:38.35 we also have informal schooling, like child-friendly spaces or education centers, but also, 00:13:38.35\00:13:46.99 there are children who have -- The schools are there, but they are not able to go to school 00:13:46.99\00:13:51.13 because they don't have sanitary pads, for example, the girls, so we provide things like that, 00:13:51.13\00:13:57.57 solar lamps because the schools might be there, but there's no 00:13:57.57\00:14:02.27 electricity to do the homework or do revision for their studies so solar lamps as well as 00:14:02.27\00:14:10.25 rescuing girls especially, children, but mostly girls from child trafficking and things 00:14:10.25\00:14:15.55 like that to make sure that they get their education. >> So how 00:14:15.55\00:14:19.99 can our viewers get involved? >> I'm glad you went there because that was the next thing 00:14:19.99\00:14:22.59 I wanted to say, is when you think about the video that we 00:14:22.59\00:14:26.90 just showed, at the end of the video, there's a link that shows 00:14:26.90\00:14:30.90 where they can go. So if you go to inschool.adra.org, there's a 00:14:30.90\00:14:36.20 petition that we're trying to get a million signatures before 00:14:36.20\00:14:40.88 June of 2020. >> Mm-hmm. >> What we want to do with that is then 00:14:40.88\00:14:44.55 take those signatures and use that to lobby world leaders to show that it is important 00:14:44.55\00:14:49.95 that everyone has an opportunity to education, and we want to use 00:14:49.95\00:14:54.46 those signatures to say, "People within the ADRA network, those 00:14:54.46\00:14:59.49 that support us, care about education, and they want world leaders to also focus and care 00:14:59.49\00:15:04.33 on education to break down those barriers and assure that those 262 million children that don't 00:15:04.33\00:15:10.01 have access right now, that they do get access." >> Thank you very much for that, 00:15:10.01\00:15:13.58 Steve. We're going to have another break, and we'll be 00:15:13.58\00:15:16.44 right back after that. い い 00:15:16.44\00:15:38.37 い い い 00:15:38.37\00:16:07.03 い い い 00:16:07.03\00:16:35.69 い い い 00:16:35.69\00:17:04.35 So here it is, the ADRA Gift Catalog. This is a physical 00:17:04.35\00:17:08.09 copy. You can go online and also look at the gift catalog. What kind of catalog is this, 00:17:08.09\00:17:12.93 Steve? This is a different kind of catalog. 00:17:12.93\00:17:15.50 This isn't a catalog like you order toys for your kids or some 00:17:15.50\00:17:21.67 kind of an item for yourself, but this is actually ordering something for someone else. 00:17:21.67\00:17:24.97 >> Yes, I remember as a kid looking through the catalog, and that's how you pick the toys 00:17:24.97\00:17:29.31 that you wanted. >> Exactly. >> I grew up in a very 00:17:29.31\00:17:31.38 small community in Newfoundland where you actually -- That would 00:17:31.38\00:17:37.15 be the way to shop for your Christmas gifts was to look through that catalog. >> Yeah, 00:17:37.15\00:17:41.69 me too. >> But this is a different catalog. This is one 00:17:41.69\00:17:44.79 where you can actually buy gifts to help people in other parts of 00:17:44.79\00:17:49.03 the world. >> Yes. >> And even here locally in Canada because 00:17:49.03\00:17:53.10 we do have needs in Canada as well. >> Exactly. >> So I want 00:17:53.10\00:17:57.91 to give just an idea of what maybe some of the viewers may -- just to kind of give 00:17:57.91\00:18:01.91 some thoughts as to how they can use this gift catalog. So our family, and we've done 00:18:01.91\00:18:06.31 this a couple times now, where we've actually used the gift catalog as a way to 00:18:06.31\00:18:11.22 give gifts for family members. So we've picked some gifts, and they would get a little -- 00:18:11.22\00:18:17.83 an e-mail or a card that says, "A goat has been donated in your name to this location." 00:18:17.83\00:18:27.40 >> That's a pretty good gift, right? >> That's a wonderful 00:18:27.40\00:18:29.50 idea. >> A goat, you can get here for $100, and it can supply 00:18:29.50\00:18:33.31 so many things. It can supply food. I mean, it's milk, and the manure can fertilize crops, 00:18:33.31\00:18:39.05 and it says here that you could actually sell the kids that come 00:18:39.05\00:18:43.39 from it. So there are many benefits that come from that. >> 00:18:43.39\00:18:46.72 Absolutely. It really does -- The gifts that are in here really do make a difference 00:18:46.72\00:18:50.63 in the lives of the people that receive. Another example 00:18:50.63\00:18:55.66 of what we've done -- Unfortunately, we lost my mother-in-law last year, 00:18:55.66\00:19:01.70 and so at Christmastime, what we did -- She was a gardener. 00:19:01.70\00:19:05.41 She loved to garden. We said, "You know, let's do something in 00:19:05.41\00:19:10.01 memory of her." So we actually -- We donated seeds, a fruit tree, and garden tools in her 00:19:10.01\00:19:18.39 memory. >> Mm-hmm. >> A couple weeks ago, I was able to visit 00:19:18.39\00:19:21.72 a kitchen garden where they had fruit trees and seeds that had 00:19:21.72\00:19:29.23 been donated from ADRA, and we were able to see the food that 00:19:29.23\00:19:34.24 was provided for these families and the difference that it makes. It actually takes a 00:19:34.24\00:19:40.61 community where growth was stunted, it was an area where 58 percent of the kids were stunted 00:19:40.61\00:19:47.02 in this area of Rwanda. >> Mm-hmm. >> And because of the 00:19:47.02\00:19:52.69 food that they've now been able to grow, their kids are healthy. You know, they're flourishing. 00:19:52.69\00:19:57.73 So when you're able to look and say, "This is what a gift from our gift catalog can do," 00:19:57.73\00:20:03.50 it just really is so much more rewarding than some of the other 00:20:03.50\00:20:09.17 gifts that you can give at this time of year. >> That's very 00:20:09.17\00:20:13.11 rewarding. >> I also think of the hygiene items gift that is in there. When I was in 00:20:13.11\00:20:21.92 Venezuela the last time, a young girl of about maybe 9, 10, she drew a horse on a paper 00:20:21.92\00:20:32.13 and used cardboard to put out the frame. I have it in my 00:20:32.13\00:20:37.33 office, very beautiful picture. The horse has glitter and nice 00:20:37.33\00:20:42.87 colors, and she named the horse Miracle. >> Miracle. >> She said, "This Miracle horse 00:20:42.87\00:20:47.71 is ADRA because ADRA brought a miracle to our lives. Before 00:20:47.71\00:20:53.92 ADRA came, we didn't have shampoo. We didn't have soap. We didn't have toothpaste." 00:20:53.92\00:21:00.42 And so the family was beginning to seclude themselves from the 00:21:00.42\00:21:06.36 community, but everyone in the community was going through the 00:21:06.36\00:21:09.30 same thing. ADRA brought -- is distributing hygiene products in 00:21:09.30\00:21:14.44 that community. >> Those are so taken for granted here in 00:21:14.44\00:21:17.41 Canada. >> Yes. >> I mean, we're a prosperous country, and now 00:21:17.41\00:21:20.48 you're giving it in a country like Venezuela that is suffering. >> Yes, and this, 00:21:20.48\00:21:25.31 to them, is a miracle. >> Mm-hmm. >> So when they have any 00:21:25.31\00:21:28.38 limited resources, they can focus on food and other items 00:21:28.38\00:21:33.66 that are needed in the family if we are providing the hygiene 00:21:33.66\00:21:40.00 that they need. >> So was Venezuela always like this? >> No, Venezuela, like Canada, 00:21:40.00\00:21:45.77 was a donor country. People flourished. The cost of living 00:21:45.77\00:21:51.27 was good. The income was good. They didn't know what suffering meant until it came to them. 00:21:51.27\00:21:57.95 >> So you went from a prosperous country -- This could possibly 00:21:57.95\00:22:01.35 happen here in Canada. >> This could happen anywhere, anywhere. 00:22:01.35\00:22:03.62 >> So, here in Canada, we have -- ADRA is working to be 00:22:03.62\00:22:09.69 prepared if there is a disaster or an emergency so that we are 00:22:09.69\00:22:13.19 prepared to respond to that. >> Absolutely. Similar to what we 00:22:13.19\00:22:18.20 do around the world as ADRA, preparation for disaster is a 00:22:18.20\00:22:24.24 big part of being able to respond in time and effectively and efficiently. So ADRA is 00:22:24.24\00:22:32.28 working with the different churches around -- in the various conferences of Canada to 00:22:32.28\00:22:39.09 make sure that our volunteers are prepared, our conferences are prepared, and everyone knows 00:22:39.09\00:22:44.49 what to do when that disaster happens so that when it happens, we go into action coordinating 00:22:44.49\00:22:49.86 with the different bodies that respond to disasters, including 00:22:49.86\00:22:54.80 the government, to do what needs to be done in a timely manner. 00:22:54.80\00:22:58.31 >> Mm-hmm. >> That's wonderful. >> And, Steve, is there anything 00:22:58.31\00:23:02.24 else that ADRA is doing here in Canada for communities here in Canada? >> Yes, absolutely. 00:23:02.24\00:23:07.88 We're working -- One of the areas that we're focusing on through ADRA Canada 00:23:07.88\00:23:11.59 is our First Nations communities, and it's an area 00:23:11.59\00:23:15.39 that we really are trying to grow our program in the First Nations. I visited one of our 00:23:15.39\00:23:21.23 First Nations communities in Alberta this summer, and I 00:23:21.23\00:23:27.64 couldn't believe that I was still in Canada. When I visited this community, as we went down 00:23:27.64\00:23:36.95 the street, the pastor that was touring through with me, he 00:23:36.95\00:23:39.98 actually pointed, and he said, "There was a murder in this home. This home was a murder." 00:23:39.98\00:23:44.95 There were actually eight murders on one street in this 00:23:44.95\00:23:50.39 community. We have a school there. There's a school that's run by the Seventh-Day Adventist 00:23:50.39\00:23:54.30 Church on that community. It's called Mamawai Atosketan Native 00:23:54.30\00:23:59.57 School. In that school, we have a feeding program, and ADRA supports the feeding 00:23:59.57\00:24:04.01 program in that school. >> That's wonderful. >> It's one 00:24:04.01\00:24:07.14 way that we're trying to make a difference there. We're also 00:24:07.14\00:24:11.21 working in Sioux Lookout. We've partnered with the Ontario Conference of Seventh-Day 00:24:11.21\00:24:15.62 Adventists for that program, and we've been doing some different 00:24:15.62\00:24:19.62 programming in Sioux Lookout as well. Sioux Lookout is a hub for approximately 25 communities 00:24:19.62\00:24:25.56 in the north of Ontario, and we've been working on diabetes prevention programs, 00:24:25.56\00:24:32.30 nutrition programs, trying to teach the importance of nutrition and also trying 00:24:32.30\00:24:36.47 to teach people how to -- even on a very cold, relatively harsh 00:24:36.47\00:24:41.21 climate, they can still grow some of their own produce as well. >> That's so good to hear. 00:24:41.21\00:24:47.12 >> Is there a Bible text that either one of you want to share that is encouraging as we close 00:24:47.12\00:24:53.96 off our program today? >> It's difficult to pinpoint one, so 00:24:53.96\00:25:00.76 I'm going to give a generality. When we look through the Bible, and we look at how many verses 00:25:00.76\00:25:08.00 there are that actually speak to how we deal with those that are 00:25:08.00\00:25:14.91 poor, in poverty, those that are dealing with injustice, there are so many verses that -- 00:25:14.91\00:25:19.25 Actually, one search I did said that there's about 2,000 verses in the Bible that actually talk 00:25:19.25\00:25:24.45 about how we deal with the poor and those that are dealing with injustice and having compassion 00:25:24.45\00:25:30.86 upon those. 00:25:30.86\00:25:32.93 At ADRA, our motto is "Justice, compassion, love," 00:25:32.96\00:25:36.80 and that comes from Micah 6:8. So that would be one that really 00:25:36.80\00:25:41.47 sums up because when you look at that verse, you can find 00:25:41.47\00:25:45.51 there's a need for justice. There is need for compassion 00:25:45.51\00:25:48.41 and love, and that's what we are called to as Christians. 00:25:48.41\00:25:53.28 >> Mm-hmm. >> Amen. >> So thank you very much, 00:25:53.31\00:25:56.12 Anita and Steve, for coming in today, and we're just going 00:25:56.12\00:25:59.85 to close off quickly with a word of prayer. Let's do that. 00:25:59.85\00:26:03.06 Father, in heaven, we thank You so much for blessing us to be in a prosperous country 00:26:03.06\00:26:07.86 like Canada. We thank you for ADRA Canada and the work that 00:26:07.86\00:26:12.30 You are inspiring them to do and also providing for people around 00:26:12.30\00:26:17.81 the world. Bless us, Lord, that we will be able to give if we can of our prayers, of our time, 00:26:17.81\00:26:24.95 and of our resources. We thank You for hearing and answering 00:26:24.95\00:26:28.75 our prayer. In Jesus' name, amen. >> Amen. >> Canada, all 00:26:28.75\00:26:34.92 across this vast and diverse nation, people are searching for meaning, acceptance and hope, 00:26:34.92\00:26:40.10 but in an increasingly secular nation where nearly one in four 00:26:40.10\00:26:44.17 Canadians have no religious affiliation, many people simply don't know how to find happiness 00:26:44.17\00:26:49.54 and peace for their lives. That is why we are here. As the premier media ministry 00:26:49.54\00:26:55.28 for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Canada, "It Is 00:26:55.28\00:26:58.25 Written" seeks to offer people more than this world can offer: the good news of Jesus Christ. 00:26:58.25\00:27:04.02 Each week, we invite countless people to enter into a closer relationship with Jesus 00:27:04.02\00:27:09.02 through our television program aired across the nation on CTV, 00:27:09.02\00:27:14.50 3ABN, Hope Channel and many more. In this way, we're able to reach into people's home and 00:27:14.50\00:27:19.23 meet them right where they are. Buying this much air time is no 00:27:19.23\00:27:23.34 small thing, but the continued commitment of donors, just like you, keeps the Gospel on the air 00:27:23.34\00:27:28.21 in Canada. Our commitment to spreading the Gospel means that 00:27:28.21\00:27:32.41 we do everything we can to maximize the impact of your 00:27:32.41\00:27:37.09 financial gift. A gift of $5 is enough to get an episode of our show into 50 households across 00:27:37.09\00:27:43.29 the nation. $10 is enough to provide a personal heart-changing Bible lesson to 00:27:43.29\00:27:48.60 five individuals. Your generosity amplified by the Holy Spirit has the power to change 00:27:48.60\00:27:54.57 lives. Canadians everywhere are searching for something more. By 00:27:54.57\00:27:59.14 partnering with "It Is Written," together, we can help them find 00:27:59.14\00:28:03.08 it. >> So, friends, thank you for joining us again, and I just 00:28:27.17\00:28:30.84 want to leave with you the words of Jesus where he says, "It is written: 'Man shall not live 00:28:30.84\00:28:35.68 by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the 00:28:35.68\00:28:42.95 mouth of God.'" い い 00:28:42.98\00:28:58.17 い 00:28:58.17\00:29:13.25
