We're going to turn to the
Book of Habakkuk. Now, if you're

after you find the Book of
Daniel, you'll turn to

And then you keep turning
through Obediah, Jonah, and then

to Micah, then to Nahum. And
following Nahum, you will find
the Book of Habakkuk.

Now, Habakkuk is just three
chapters long. He falls into
00:02:38.12\00:02:44.46
this category of minor prophets,
but there is no doubt that this
minor prophet has a major
00:02:44.46\00:02:52.03
message for God's people today.
Now, the name Habakkuk in Hebrew
literally means "to embrace."

In fact, the form of his Hebrew
name has led some scholars to
conclude that he may have been a
00:03:00.24\00:03:06.51
temple singer that worked in
God's great and magnificent
temple that Solomon had built.
00:03:06.51\00:03:12.39
Now, scholars are not in full
agreement on when exactly
Habakkuk wrote his book, but it
00:03:12.39\00:03:18.86
is clear that he wrote sometime
around the time of King Josiah.
It's likely that Habakkuk had
00:03:18.86\00:03:25.37
lived through a portion of the
reign of Manasseh. And you'll
00:03:25.37\00:03:30.21
remember Manasseh, the most evil
king to ever reign in Judah. He
00:03:30.21\00:03:35.48
reigned 55 years. The Bible says
that he was so evil that he
actually sacrificed his own
00:03:35.48\00:03:41.45
children in fire. Jewish
tradition tells us that Manasseh
had the prophet Isaiah arrested.
00:03:41.45\00:03:46.39
He was placed in a hollowed-out
log, and then that log was sawed
00:03:46.39\00:03:51.69
in half. That is who Manasseh
was -- the most evil king ever
to raise in Israel.

He was the son of Hezekiah. Now,
the Bible records that Manasseh
did, in fact, have a
00:03:58.83\00:04:07.34
conversion experience in the
Assyrian jail after he had been
dragged away and taken prisoner

by the Assyrians. The Bible's
description is one of Manasseh
being arrested, and
00:04:12.95\00:04:17.85
it says that he was taken away
in fetters. Now, what likely
00:04:17.85\00:04:22.82
happened to Manasseh is that
when the Assyrians arrested him,
he would have had leather tied
00:04:22.82\00:04:28.20
to his hands, connected to
leather tied around his ankles,
and then a connecting piece that
00:04:28.20\00:04:34.47
would have gone from his wrists,
where they then would have taken
a spike, driven it through his
00:04:34.47\00:04:41.94
nose, and tied leather to
it. The Assyrians were a vicious
00:04:41.94\00:04:46.75
people. And Manasseh sat in his
jail, and he prayed. And even
00:04:46.75\00:04:52.35
though Manasseh experienced a
conversion experience in that
Assyrian jail, even though he
00:04:52.35\00:04:57.53
returned and broke down the
idols, his son, Amon, did not
have that same experience.
00:04:57.53\00:05:03.03
The Bible says that Amon did
evil in the sight of the Lord.
And then came onto the scene
00:05:03.03\00:05:09.17
Josiah, and under Josiah, there
was revival. But after Josiah,
00:05:09.17\00:05:16.88
that revival faded away. And so
it is in that context that we
find Habakkuk when he
00:05:16.88\00:05:26.09
comes to ministry. And in
Habakkuk chapter 1, Habakkuk
cries out to the Lord,

asking questions of God.
This is what Habakkuk said.
00:05:34.20\00:05:40.30
Essentially, as Habakkuk cried
out to God, he asked Him the
fundamental question -- "God,
00:06:12.00\00:06:17.94
when are You going to do
something about the wickedness
that exists on the earth and the
00:06:17.94\00:06:23.95
wickedness among your people?"
God answered Habakkuk and said
that He would address the
00:06:23.95\00:06:30.52
wickedness among His people and
that He would address that
wickedness by bringing the
00:06:30.52\00:06:35.59
Babylonians, who would bring
correction to his people, and
they would be humbled.
00:06:35.59\00:06:42.86
When Habakkuk heard these words,
he cried out and he says, "Lord,
that would be too much."
00:06:42.86\00:06:50.51
But Habakkuk humbled himself
because he understood that God
has appointed times and
00:06:50.51\00:06:56.54
appointed ways to reach
His people. And so in humbling
00:06:56.54\00:07:01.88
himself, he first acknowledged
the sovereignty of God, and in
acknowledging that sovereignty
00:07:01.88\00:07:07.62
of God, promised then to God
that he would stand his watch.
And then the Lord spoke to

Habakkuk. It is
recorded in Habakkuk 2:2-4.

The appointed time. The vision
is yet for an appointed time.

Here the Bible makes clear God
has appointed times for the
fulfillment of prophecy.

Habakkuk was not the only one
who received this message about
the Babylonians coming from the
00:08:02.58\00:08:08.22
north. The prophet Jeremiah also
predicted that the Babylonians
00:08:08.22\00:08:12.39
would come from the north and
defeat Judah. And the record of
00:08:12.39\00:08:17.73
Scripture is that that is
exactly what happened. Daniel
chapter 1 records the
00:08:17.73\00:08:22.26
invasion of Babylon, led by
Nebuchadnezzar and the defeat of
Judah, just as predicted.
00:08:22.26\00:08:29.60
But the story of Babylon as
recorded in the Book of Daniel
is a testimony not to the defeat
00:08:29.60\00:08:35.54
of God's people, but rather it
is a testimony of the reality
that God has appointed times for
00:08:35.54\00:08:42.52
the fulfillment of prophecy.
Now, I want you to open to the
Book of Daniel, and there in
00:08:42.52\00:08:49.06
Daniel chapter 2, there is a
prophecy, a prophecy that you
00:08:49.06\00:08:53.16
may know well. It is a prophecy
that we have discussed in
previous programs. There in
00:08:53.16\00:09:00.37
Daniel chapter 2, it records the
story of Nebuchadnezzar.
Nebuchadnezzar had a dream.
00:09:00.37\00:09:05.74
I want you to remember now --
Nebuchadnezzar was the king of
Babylon, and after he had that
00:09:05.74\00:09:11.28
dream, he had an experience that
many of us have experienced. And
that is, when he awoke, he
00:09:11.28\00:09:17.32
knew he had a dream, but he
could not remember it. Now,
moreover, he sensed that
00:09:17.32\00:09:23.96
that dream was important. The
Babylonians believed that dreams
actually dictated your
00:09:23.96\00:09:30.77
future. And so Nebuchadnezzar
wanted to understand, and so
00:09:30.77\00:09:34.60
Nebuchadnezzar called together
his wise men to help him
understand the dream.
00:09:34.60\00:09:39.51
The Bible refers to this group
of wise men as astrologers,
soothsayers, and Chaldeans.
00:09:39.51\00:09:45.51
He called them together and
asked them to tell him the dream
and give him the interpretation.
00:09:45.51\00:09:51.15
But the astrologers, the
soothsayers, and the Chaldeans,
his wise men, they didn't know
00:09:51.15\00:09:57.19
the dream. And so they
attempted to bargain with King
00:09:57.19\00:10:01.10
Nebuchadnezzar. "King, tell us
the dream, and we'll give you
the interpretation," they said.
00:10:01.10\00:10:04.97
Now, Nebuchadnezzar knew what
they were trying to do. First,
they were trying to
00:10:04.97\00:10:09.57
stall. They didn't know the
dream. But number two, he knew
00:10:09.57\00:10:14.48
that if he gave them the dream,
well, then they could make up an
00:10:14.48\00:10:20.42
interpretation. And after more
continued stalling and
bargaining by the wise men,
00:10:20.42\00:10:26.52
Nebuchadnezzar grew irritated.
He grew so angry and agitated
that he said to these wise men,
00:10:26.52\00:10:32.56
"If you don't tell me the dream
and you don't give me the
interpretation, I will kill all
00:10:32.56\00:10:37.60
the wise men of Babylon, and
I will make your homes an ash
00:10:37.60\00:10:44.77
heap." Now, let us be clear.
These were not simple and idle
threats by King Nebuchadnezzar.

These were the threats of a man
who had ascended to the throne
through power and might and
00:10:50.81\00:10:55.38
through the conquering of the
nations. And so because the wise
00:10:55.38\00:10:59.45
men could not give him the dream
or the interpretation,
Nebuchadnezzar set forth a
00:10:59.45\00:11:05.13
decree, and the soldiers went
forth, killing the wise men. The
prophet Daniel, who was one
00:11:05.13\00:11:10.97
of the Hebrew captives in
Babylon and was a part of this
group of wise men but not a part
00:11:10.97\00:11:15.97
of the original meeting with
Nebuchadnezzar -- he was also
00:11:15.97\00:11:23.08
being pursued. And so
Nebuchadnezzar, in sending out
his soldiers to go and kill the
00:11:23.08\00:11:27.48
wise men, went from home to
home, and they came to the home
of Daniel. And when they came to
00:11:27.48\00:11:32.22
the home of Daniel, I want you
to imagine in your mind what
Daniel said as he answered the
00:11:32.22\00:11:39.19
door. I can imagine that Daniel
said, "Whoa, whoa, wait just a
second. What's going on here?
00:11:39.19\00:11:43.67
What's the hurry?" And so the
soldiers explained to Daniel
exactly what was going
00:11:43.67\00:11:47.94
on -- that the king had had a
dream and the wise men couldn't
tell him the dream and they
00:11:47.94\00:11:52.54
couldn't give him the
interpretation. So Daniel asked
00:11:52.54\00:11:57.41
the head of the soldiers,
"Please take me to King
Nebuchadnezzar." And so Daniel
00:11:57.41\00:12:03.85
went before the king and asked
him for time. You know,
Nebuchadnezzar must have trusted
00:12:03.85\00:12:10.46
Daniel, for the testimony of
Daniel chapter 1 is that he was
an excellent student.
00:12:10.46\00:12:14.93
And he must have been a trusted
advisor, a trusted wise man to
00:12:14.93\00:12:21.34
the king. So, Daniel returned to
his home after he had been
granted time by Nebuchadnezzar,
00:12:21.34\00:12:27.68
and there he prayed with his
friends, Hananiah, Azariah, and
Mishael. And as they prayed, the
00:12:27.68\00:12:33.58
testimony of Scripture is that
God answered their prayer. And
so Daniel returned and went
00:12:33.58\00:12:39.89
before the King. And when he
went before the King, he made
00:12:39.89\00:12:44.03
something abundantly clear that
we must not miss. He told the
00:12:44.03\00:12:48.60
King, according
to Daniel 2:28...
00:12:48.60\00:12:51.40
Daniel attributed it all to God.
And Daniel was letting the king
know that he had received a
00:13:02.84\00:13:09.98
special dream because God has
appointed times for the
fulfillment of prophecy.

And why is it that it is so
important that God has fulfilled
00:13:17.16\00:13:21.80
prophecy? Well, the prophet
Isaiah wrote these words in
00:13:21.80\00:13:26.43
Isaiah 46:9-10. This refers to
prophecy. Fulfilled prophecy
serves as a marker, a knowing,
00:13:39.38\00:13:47.79
shall we say, that God is, in
fact, who He says He is. God has
appointed times for
00:13:47.79\00:13:53.43
fulfilled prophecy, that He has
appointed times in which He can
lead people to be prepared and
00:13:53.43\00:14:00.47
be ready for the appointed time
of Jesus' return. And as we see
00:14:00.47\00:14:06.41
prophecies fulfilled, it gives
us confidence and faith that the
promise of God's Word is true.
00:14:06.41\00:14:13.18
And so then we trust that Jesus
is, in fact, coming soon. And so
Daniel began to tell the
00:14:13.18\00:14:21.32
king the dream. In Daniel
2:31, it records these words.
00:14:21.32\00:14:27.36
Nebuchadnezzar's dream was of a
great metal image, metals that
at the top were of the greatest
00:15:17.11\00:15:22.32
value and at the bottom the
least value, but at the top the
least strong and the bottom the
00:15:22.32\00:15:28.82
most strong. Then Daniel
went on to say this in verse 36.
00:15:28.82\00:15:34.10
I'm sure Nebuchadnezzar
anxiously anticipated the
interpretation of this important
00:15:41.84\00:15:45.94
dream, and then
Daniel said these words.
00:15:45.94\00:15:48.84
The metal image was a
representation of what would
take place in the latter times.
00:15:56.12\00:16:01.46
Starting with Babylon and moving
forward, it told the history of
world empires before, in fact,
00:16:01.46\00:16:07.46
it was history. It was a
prophetic prediction of what
would happen in the world.
00:16:07.46\00:16:13.00
And what a fitting symbol for
Babylon, being the head of gold.
When you read the history of
00:16:13.00\00:16:18.94
Babylon, you see the importance
of gold in its society. You read
about the temple to
00:16:18.94\00:16:24.75
Marduk there in Babylon and
the abundance of gold that was
00:16:24.75\00:16:33.39
there. But Babylon was not
to reign forever. The prophet
00:16:33.39\00:16:36.99
Habakkuk, the prophet Jeremiah
both predicted that the kingdom
of Babylon would come to an end.
00:16:36.99\00:16:41.30
And here in Daniel 2:39, Daniel
is in absolute agreement when he
says the next words.
00:16:41.30\00:16:48.97
Against all odds, the kingdom of
Babylon did end. In 539, Persia
00:16:55.41\00:17:02.68
defeated Babylon in the most
unlikeliest of circumstances.
And they ruled the Middle East
00:17:02.68\00:17:08.39
until 331 B.C. But the dream
went on to say that another will
00:17:08.39\00:17:14.63
come, a third kingdom, a kingdom
of bronze which shall rule over
the earth. This second kingdom
00:17:14.63\00:17:20.90
of Persia would be defeated by a
third kingdom, that kingdom
represented by bronze.
00:17:20.90\00:17:25.57
The Persians, in fact, not
ruling forever, were conquered
00:17:25.57\00:17:31.51
by the Greeks. The Greeks
defeated the Persians once again
in almost miraculous fashion.
00:17:31.51\00:17:36.58
And, again, what a fitting
symbol of Greece. The Greeks
wore bronze helmets.
00:17:36.58\00:17:42.62
The Greeks dominated the Middle
East under the leadership of
Alexander the Great, who
00:17:42.62\00:17:47.13
conquered the known world
faster than any other nation in
00:17:47.13\00:17:51.40
history. You can go and read in
the history books and see that,
just as God predicted, Babylon
00:17:51.40\00:17:56.54
would rule, but then would be
defeated by the Persians, and
then the Persians would be
00:17:56.54\00:18:01.81
defeated by the
Greeks. But then Daniel said...
00:18:01.81\00:18:04.48
The Greeks were defeated by the
Romans, and, once again, what a
fitting symbol, these legs of
00:18:08.95\00:18:14.46
iron, for the Roman Empire, who
ruled with an iron fist. But the
question is, as we look
00:18:14.46\00:18:22.03
at this image, we ask, "What's
the next step? Who defeated the
00:18:22.03\00:18:27.34
Romans?" Well, the dream
articulates in absolute
precision what exactly happened
00:18:27.34\00:18:33.54
to the Roman Empire. The Roman
Empire, in fact, was never
defeated. The Roman Empire
00:18:43.79\00:18:49.02
simply fell apart. It divided.
Basically, Rome divided into
00:18:49.02\00:18:52.56
what is today modern Europe.
Now, of course there's been many
changes since that time, but
00:18:52.56\00:18:58.47
Rome simply fell apart. The
Bible, through the prophet
Daniel, then goes on to say...
00:18:58.47\00:19:04.04
You see, the division of the
Roman Empire was to be a
permanent division.

Many have attempted to
reconfigure the Ancient Roman
00:19:17.09\00:19:22.06
Empire, and Daniel used very
precise language. "They will
mingle with the seed of men."
00:19:22.06\00:19:27.56
Now, if we took a journey today
to Denmark and we visited the
Frederiksborg Castle and we
00:19:27.56\00:19:32.73
walked into that castle, there
in the entryway we would find
the family tree of Europe.
00:19:32.73\00:19:38.14
And what we find is a
fascinating story because what
happened over time was the
00:19:38.14\00:19:45.21
prince of this country married
the princess of another country
and the duke of one country
00:19:45.21\00:19:50.32
married the duchess of another
country. And there was this
00:19:50.32\00:19:55.16
constant intermarrying between
the nations that continued on
00:19:55.16\00:20:00.20
for centuries. And all of it had
one purpose in mind -- the
reunification of the old Roman
00:20:00.20\00:20:07.14
Empire. But notice Daniel said,
"They will mingle with the seed
00:20:07.14\00:20:12.31
of men." That intermarrying and
having children was an attempt
to reunify, but it never came to
00:20:12.31\00:20:20.55
fruition. Additional insights
into history tell us that many
00:20:20.55\00:20:27.66
have, in fact, attempted to
reunite the old Roman Empire.
Charlamagne attempted,
00:20:27.66\00:20:32.06
and he failed. Charles V tried
to reunite the old Roman Empire,
00:20:32.06\00:20:36.70
and he was unsuccessful. Louis
the XIV tried to reunite the old
Roman Empire and was
00:20:36.70\00:20:41.64
also unsuccessful. Napol廩n,
too, failed. Even in more modern
00:20:41.64\00:20:47.44
times, there have been people
who have tried. That's what the
Third Reich was all about.
00:20:47.44\00:20:51.51
Hitler attempted to reunite the
old Roman Empire, and in doing
so, he did horrific things in
00:20:51.51\00:20:57.25
advancing that cause, but
ultimately Hitler failed. All of
these leaders attempted
00:20:57.25\00:21:02.96
to go against the very Word of
God and the predictions he made.
00:21:02.96\00:21:10.80
And they failed. But the dream
does not conclude there. Daniel
continues on in the
00:21:10.80\00:21:14.17
dream.
00:21:14.17\00:21:15.04
Now, a stone or a rock cut
without hands is a direct
reference that what is about to

happen is not a man-made event.
The stone cut without hands is
telling us that man has nothing
00:21:30.22\00:21:38.09
to do with what happens next.
The stone cut without hands is
hurled to the earth, strikes the
00:21:38.09\00:21:44.10
image, and completely decimates
all the previous empires.
They're broken in pieces, and,
00:21:44.10\00:21:50.01
as the dream said, they are
blown away as chaff on the
summer threshing floor.
00:21:50.01\00:21:55.18
So, who or what is this
stone? Well, I'll tell you, dear
00:21:55.18\00:21:59.31
friends. The Bible is quite
clear. Deuteronomy 32:4 says
00:21:59.31\00:22:02.32
this... This rock, this stone
is the setting up of a different
00:22:13.16\00:22:17.73
kind of kingdom. It is the
setting up of God's kingdom. And
it is a kingdom that will
00:22:17.73\00:22:22.67
have no end. It is a
kingdom that will last forever.

The Book of Ephesians -- there
the apostle Paul wrote these

words... This stone is a
representation of Jesus Christ,
the Son of God. And as Daniel

continued, he
said these words...

God is setting up a kingdom that
will break in pieces and consume
all the previous kingdoms, and

God's kingdom shall stand
forever. Each one of these

kingdoms had a beginning and an
ending. Babylon had a beginning.
Babylon had an ending.

Persia had a beginning. Persia
had an ending. Greece had a

beginning. Greece had an ending.
Rome had a beginning, and Rome

fell apart. And now God says
through the prophet Daniel all
of them, any remnant of them,

will come to an end because He's
setting up His kingdom. His
kingdom will never end.

His kingdom will last forever.
And, friends, don't miss this.
God has appointed times of

fulfilled prophecy that we might
know and understand and have
confidence in God's Word and

confidence that we would see the
appointed time of Jesus' return
and have confidence that that

time is coming soon. God is
setting up His kingdom, which

will last forever. If we look
around the world today, we turn
on the news, we look at the

Internet, we read the newspaper,
it's all hard to watch, read,
and listen to. In fact, after

reading, it's almost impossible
to go to sleep and have any
peace because when we look
00:24:10.35\00:24:17.99
around, we see that the world
seems like it's just about to
fall apart. We look around, and
00:24:17.99\00:24:24.66
we -- we say, "This -- This
can't last forever. This isn't
00:24:24.66\00:24:27.76
sustainable." And the message of
God today is this -- "I see the
commotion. I see all the
00:24:27.76\00:24:36.37
craziness. I hear what's going
on. And here's what I'm telling
00:24:36.37\00:24:41.18
you, friend. I'm setting up my
kingdom. And I have the
appointed time of my return, and
00:24:41.18\00:24:48.35
my kingdom will never end. It
will last forever. My kingdom is
00:24:48.35\00:24:52.42
a kingdom of peace, and you will
want to be a part of it." God
has appointed times of
00:24:52.42\00:24:57.56
fulfilled prophecy that we might
see and have confidence that,
just as these prophecies have
00:24:57.56\00:25:04.60
been fulfilled, so, too, will
the appointed time of the return
of Jesus come to fruition.

God invites you today, friend,
and says, "I'm God, and there is

no other. I am God, and there
is none like me. I know the end

from the beginning, and I have
appointed times to prepare you

Christ's return." But
here's the fundamental question.

What will you do? God wants each
of us to be prepared for the

appointed time of His return.
That is why He has appointed
times of fulfilled prophecy.

make sure that you have the
opportunity, for me to have the

opportunity to make the decision
to be a part of God's kingdom
that will last forever.

The only piece of this prophecy
of Daniel 2 that isn't fulfilled
is the appointed time of the

Second Coming of Christ, where
God's kingdom will be set up

forever. So, friend, what will
you do? The Scriptures
demonstrate over and over again
00:26:10.50\00:26:18.17
that God has appointed times
of fulfilled promises. He has
00:26:18.17\00:26:23.01
appointed times to remember His
deliverance. He has appointed
times we're to wait upon Him.
00:26:23.01\00:26:27.98
He has appointed times where we
are to be cleansed and renewed

and restored. He has appointed
times of judgment. He has

appointed times of fulfilled
prophecy. And all of it is in an
effort to prepare you for the

appointed time of His return.
Will you heed that call today?

to Him, who has opened His arms
wide and said, "Come unto me,

give you the rest for your soul.
