>>Announcer: It has stood the test of time. 00:00:11.44\00:00:13.98 God's book, The Bible 00:00:14.88\00:00:17.58 Still relevant in today's complex world 00:00:18.45\00:00:22.12 It Is Written 00:00:24.32\00:00:25.49 Sharing messages of hope around the world! 00:00:26.05\00:00:29.89 There are many individuals who are left to wonder who who their mother or father might be. For 00:00:38.63\00:00:45.01 some, they were given up for adoption at an early age for a variety of reasons. For others, 00:00:45.11\00:00:51.38 a parent or both parents dies, leaving the child orphaned. For Marissa Thamann, that was the 00:00:51.48\00:00:59.55 case. Her mother passed away from a pulmonary embolism when she was only 3 months old. She 00:00:59.65\00:01:06.46 would never have a conscious recollection of her mother Marissa's father, who took his 00:01:06.56\00:01:12.93 role as a single father very seriously, later would meet a special woman, Heather, and the 00:01:13.03\00:01:19.77 two of them got married. Heather helped raise Marissa as if she were her own daughter. For 17 00:01:19.87\00:01:27.18 years she has paid that price that parents pay to show Marissa the ways of life. Yet, during 00:01:27.28\00:01:35.16 that time, she did not adopt Marissa because of the amount of money it would cost and the 00:01:35.26\00:01:40.16 sizeable amount of paperwork it would take. Yet Marissa and Heather were an unseparable duo 00:01:40.26\00:01:46.97 that acted and functioned as any mother and daughter would. But on Christmas day, 2016 something 00:01:47.07\00:01:54.78 amazing happened. As their family was opening presents, Heather opened a gift from 00:01:54.88\00:02:02.02 Marissa.it was a small ornament and on that ornament were the words "would you adopt me?" 00:02:02.12\00:02:09.59 Marissa had taken care of all the paperwork and what became a viral video and international 00:02:09.69\00:02:17.20 story, the entire family cried in the joy of moving forward in 00:02:17.30\00:02:25.27 that process. Marissa: You know how I told you I was so doing it? Well, we're doing it 00:02:26.88\00:02:30.05 together. Heather: I've been waiting for so long. 00:02:40.09\00:02:41.49 Marissa: I know, sorry it took so long. 00:02:41.96\00:02:43.89 In touching words that Marissa wrote on a little note with the ornament, ""You have been the 00:02:44.99\00:02:51.50 best thing my dad has given me, calling you my stepmom is almost insulting . Thank you for being 00:02:51.60\00:02:59.91 the mom that I needed." Not only could Heather legally adopt Marissa, but both desired it to 00:03:00.08\00:03:08.85 be so. 00:03:08.95\00:03:10.72 Friends, that is a beautiful reminder of what Jesus desire for you and me.do you desire it 00:03:12.09\00:03:19.26 from Him? That He would adopt you as a son or daughter Jesus came to this earth with a 00:03:19.36\00:03:27.04 distinct mission. His mission was one of redemption and adoption. On today's program I 00:03:27.14\00:03:34.34 want to talk more about that. See, Jesus' mission was more than to simply be born and then 00:03:34.44\00:03:46.92 die. He had a mission of peace and comfort and healing. He not only desired to save humanity, 00:03:47.02\00:03:55.10 to adopt each of us and sons and daughters, but through His love heal us and redeem us. The first 00:03:55.20\00:04:06.31 steps of Jesus ministry demonstrate this desire through action The first 8 chapters of 00:04:06.41\00:04:14.02 John show us the care that Jesus has for humanity and His desire to bring healing and redemption. 00:04:14.12\00:04:22.32 In John 2, Jesus visited a wedding and provided an ample supply of the fresh juice of the 00:04:22.42\00:04:30.03 wine, saving the master of ceremonies and the newly married couple the social embarrassment. 00:04:30.13\00:04:38.04 In John chapter 3 Jesus met with Nicodemius under the shadows, saving Nicodemius the social 00:04:38.14\00:04:45.28 pressures of publicly acknowledging Jesus as Lord and Saviour, yet teaching hime the 00:04:45.38\00:04:51.49 essential nature of being born again. In John 4, Jesus visited Samaria and brought social, 00:04:51.59\00:04:59.73 physical and spiritual healing to the woman at the well. This was such a significant 00:04:59.83\00:05:05.27 event.first because Jesus went to Samaria - a place that Jews thought was unclean and in 00:05:05.37\00:05:13.38 traveling from Judea to Galilee, although straight through Samaria was fastest would go all 00:05:13.48\00:05:21.95 the way around to avoid it. Jews would have nothing to do with Samaritans.yet Jesus went to 00:05:22.05\00:05:30.93 Samaria to bring healing and redemption. The second reason this was so amazing is because 00:05:31.03\00:05:37.23 of Jesus' interaction with a forsaken woman.Jesus care and love for each of us is so great 00:05:37.33\00:05:44.47 that He will go to tremendous lengths to bring that healing and redemption. Then in John 5, 00:05:44.57\00:05:52.25 Jesus brought healing to a paralytic man. Depite it being the Sabbath and the Jews 00:05:52.35\00:05:57.72 believing that it was against the law to heal on Sabbath.Jesus fulfulled the true meaning of 00:05:57.82\00:06:02.92 Sabbath though healing. Once again Jesus demonstrated His core desire of healing and 00:06:03.02\00:06:10.20 redemption. In John 6, Jesus fed the 5000 and provide for both their physical and spiritual 00:06:10.30\00:06:16.54 needs. Finally in John 8, an event that summarizes the entire ministy of Jesus and His desire 00:06:16.64\00:06:25.91 for each of us, He healed the woman caught in adultery. Now you might ask.how does that 00:06:26.01\00:06:32.09 summarize what He wants to do for me when I haven't committed adultery.let's examine what 00:06:32.19\00:06:38.96 Jesus did. According to John 8 beginning in verse 1, it records 00:06:39.06\00:06:47.84 that event, Picture the moment in your mind.Jesus was teaching and then these religious leader 00:07:31.58\00:07:39.19 came and cast this woman before Him. She was likely unclothed or with very little clothing.they 00:07:39.29\00:07:46.76 had caught her in the act. Some commentators surmise that these leaders had set a trap for her 00:07:46.86\00:07:53.94 and actually had committed adultery with her to make the accusation. Now they were trying 00:07:54.04\00:08:02.28 to trap Jesus. Would He uphold the law of Moses and have her stoned? Or would He break it? 00:08:02.38\00:08:10.69 They believed that they had Him in a catch 22.the Bible records that Jesus didn't answer them, 00:08:10.79\00:08:18.66 but crouched down and began writing in the sand.they continued to ask Him what He 00:08:18.76\00:08:24.80 would do.He then said, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.then crouched again 00:08:24.90\00:08:34.21 and kept writing. The Bible doesn't tell us what He wrote.but the simple process of 00:08:34.31\00:08:42.12 deduction helps us conclude that He was, in fact, writing the record of their sin in the sand. 00:08:42.22\00:08:52.69 Each of them left one by one to save embarrassment. Then Jesus with soft words, I'm sure, asked 00:08:52.79\00:09:04.44 "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" Many will say that they 00:09:04.54\00:09:14.72 were all gone.that is actually incorrect. There was only one that day who could have justly 00:09:14.82\00:09:21.19 accused her. That was Jesus, yet He chose not to which is why the Bible records in verse 11, 00:09:21.29\00:09:34.87 Jesus desires to not only adopt us, but to bring healing and redemption for each of us. He 00:09:48.12\00:09:58.93 desires that we experience the freeing affect of entering into a relationship with Him. By the 00:09:59.03\00:10:09.27 way, He was trying to reach those religious leaders as well.He wrote their sins in the 00:10:09.37\00:10:22.58 ground and not in stone. The wind would later blow away the record and He would try to bring 00:10:22.68\00:10:30.19 healing to them. Later in the book of Acts we do see that some who rejected Jesus gave their 00:10:30.29\00:10:40.50 lives to Him. 00:10:40.60\00:10:44.87 Jesus came to bring life, but the Bible records that there is another who has brought a 00:10:46.57\00:10:51.91 message of death and destruction. John 10:10 says, 00:10:52.01\00:10:56.58 As the devil has seen and heard the desires of Jesus, he has viciously attacked those that 00:11:09.53\00:11:16.74 Jesus loves. 1 Peter 5:8 says, 00:11:16.84\00:11:27.02 But Jesus wants to save us and free us from the attacks of Satan. Jesus lived a life of 00:11:34.76\00:11:41.53 service. He was and is the Savior of the world. He did so many great and powerful and good 00:11:41.63\00:11:47.37 things - all because of His desire to adopt and redeem you. This is why the apostle Paul, 00:11:47.47\00:11:57.48 writing to the church of Rome, recorded these words in Romans 3, beginning in verse 21, 00:11:57.58\00:12:08.76 Did you hear that? All of us are sinners who have fallen short of the glory of God. Yet, Jesus 00:12:59.54\00:13:04.91 wants to be the justifier of you, the surety of your salvation and Romans 5:9 tells 00:13:05.01\00:13:13.56 us that, 00:13:13.66\00:13:15.06 His desire for your adoption, redemption and salvations is so great, that He died before you 00:13:26.17\00:13:33.78 made a decision to come to Him. 00:13:33.88\00:13:37.55 Think for just a moment of Jesus as He was closing His ministry. Think of Him as He stopped in 00:13:40.48\00:13:47.36 the Garden of Gethsemne prepared for the final actions in this earthy ministry. There as He 00:13:47.46\00:13:55.76 entered the garden, the sins of the world were being placed upon Him. One of my favourite books 00:13:55.86\00:14:02.44 on the life of Christ, The Desire of Ages, says this, 00:14:02.54\00:14:05.87 Come back to that garden with me. While Jesus was anguished and feeling this terrible 00:14:51.55\00:14:57.29 separation from the Father, the serpent, the devil lurked in the background trying to dissuade 00:14:57.39\00:15:04.27 Him from going through with it. Desire of Ages continues, 00:15:04.37\00:15:09.24 At Christ's weakest point, at His darkest hour Satan strikes back at Jesus with a vengeance. 00:16:28.35\00:16:37.09 He lashes out with an intense attack and the passage 00:16:37.19\00:16:44.60 continues, We each know the rest of the story. Jesus was arrested, illegally tried, and 00:17:54.37\00:18:01.31 then Satan would stir the crowd and they would crucify the Savior. His disciples thought it 00:18:01.41\00:18:08.58 all was lost. I imagain all the beings of heaven realms were shocked by the actions of that 00:18:08.68\00:18:15.79 fallen angel. It would seem that Satan had struck back with a most devastating blow, he had 00:18:15.89\00:18:24.13 killed the Son of God. 00:18:24.23\00:18:27.67 For three days they would wonder. They had forgotten the promises of Jesus. But as we all 00:18:29.97\00:18:35.18 know, early that Sunday morning, as Matthew 28:2 records, 00:18:35.28\00:18:39.65 In the midst of the greatest blow struck by the enemy of good, it was Jesus who would 00:18:55.13\00:19:01.37 conquer the grave and He rose again. Although Satan had struck, Jesus would conquered 00:19:01.47\00:19:07.58 the grave and defeated him. Here is what this means for you and 00:19:07.68\00:19:16.05 for me Romans 3:21 Righteousness is not found in the law. The word righteousness carries with 00:19:33.67\00:19:38.27 it the idea that it is the divine act of God making a person right before Him. It is 00:19:38.37\00:19:45.35 also the idea of right living, being right before God. Paul here emphasizes the point that 00:19:45.45\00:19:52.89 righteousness cannot be found in the law of God itself. Rather this righteousness is found in 00:19:52.99\00:20:00.16 faith in the promises of God, but the passage also says 00:20:00.26\00:20:02.76 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The word sin, as you can see, is in the 00:20:10.07\00:20:13.71 past tense, however in the Greek it conveys that it is on a continual basis. It says that 00:20:13.81\00:20:18.48 yes we have sinned in the past, but we continually sin and fall short of the glory of God. It 00:20:18.58\00:20:25.02 conveys the idea that sin is more than simply an action, but rather it is a part of our 00:20:25.12\00:20:29.32 nature. And our nature must be overcome. Our nature must be 00:20:29.42\00:20:37.97 transformed. Don't misunderstand, this is not to excuse sinning yet it conveys 00:20:38.07\00:20:42.50 that it is a part of our nature which we cannot change on our own or by our own will power. 00:20:42.60\00:20:47.88 The passage then promises Justification is made available through redemption. 00:21:19.54\00:21:25.31 Justification is the action of God saving us from our past life. It is that adoption that 00:21:25.41\00:21:32.22 we have discussed previously. How is it that Jesus can make that claim upon us? Through 00:21:32.32\00:21:38.03 redemption. The word redemption literally means a releasing by payment of ransom, while the 00:21:38.13\00:21:44.70 word justification is literally to be declared righteous before God. Jesus Christ through His 00:21:44.80\00:21:53.41 sacrifice has released us from the penalty of sin by purchasing our ransom and adopting us as 00:21:53.51\00:21:59.91 sons and daughters so that we might stand justified before 00:22:00.08\00:22:04.22 God. Yet, this is not all that Christ did. The Bible says that Jesus is also our propitiation. 00:22:05.99\00:22:12.79 If you are reading from a more modern version it says that that He is our atonement. Literally 00:22:12.89\00:22:17.63 this word means to be made right with God. Splitting the word into parts.. at.one.ment. Jesus 00:22:17.73\00:22:25.51 bridged the chasm that exists between us and God. Christ is the sacrifice. By His death He 00:22:25.61\00:22:33.35 has met the blood sacrifice requirement of sin. His death, which was the experience of the 00:22:33.45\00:22:40.82 second death, fulfilled the price that was required to be paid. Lastly and most 00:22:40.92\00:22:49.83 importantly the text says, 00:22:49.93\00:22:53.13 Faith in Jesus, belief in Jesus. That is all that is asked. All of this is available through 00:23:00.88\00:23:08.35 faith. Friends, this is a choice, it is free will, it is not forced. And Jesus cries out 00:23:08.45\00:23:17.86 to you today. He cries out to each and every one of us. The serpent, the devil lashed out 00:23:17.96\00:23:28.14 against God's plan and killed Jesus Now he lashes out agains you and me. We must not fear. 1 00:23:28.24\00:23:37.91 Peter 5:8-10 promises, 00:23:38.01\00:23:42.02 Friends, we must understand that Jesus is working towards our salvation. He has made the 00:24:10.45\00:24:14.38 provision for our salvation. Yet, in order for us to fully experience the joy of salvation 00:24:14.48\00:24:19.65 we must accept it by faith. By faith we make the choice to enjoy the salvation of the Lord. 00:24:19.75\00:24:25.13 Friend, do you want to experience that salvation? Do you want to have the assurance 00:24:25.23\00:24:30.30 of your justification and your redemption from sin? I would invite you today, by faith, to 00:24:30.40\00:24:37.71 reach out and clasp the hand of Jesus and accept His plan for 00:24:37.81\00:24:46.38 your life. Heavenly Father, there may be some who are watching today who are hearing 00:24:48.55\00:24:53.69 for the first time the promise of the Gospel message. For that individual, I want to pray for 00:24:53.79\00:25:00.40 them, that by faith, they would accept Your promise, that they would be adopted as a son or a 00:25:00.50\00:25:04.93 daughter, that they would come to You and enjoy life eternal. For others who are listening 00:25:05.03\00:25:11.81 today, they accepted this promise of salvation some time ago, I would pray that they 00:25:11.91\00:25:17.91 today would renew that decision that they've made, that they would lay all things aside, come 00:25:18.01\00:25:23.12 to You, give their lives to You, and be committed to You until Your Son Jesus comes again in 00:25:23.22\00:25:28.99 glory. Please, Lord, keep us for that day. We pray in Jesus' 00:25:29.09\00:25:35.00 name, amen. Friends, it is a thrilling journey to walk with Jesus Christ, the One Who wants 00:26:02.62\00:26:09.13 to adopt you as a son or daughter, Who wants to redeem you. As you accept that mission 00:26:09.23\00:26:17.44 by faith, Jesus wants to enter deeply with you in that relationship.
