>>Announcer: It has stood the test of time. 00:00:12.07\00:00:14.71 God's book, The Bible 00:00:15.08\00:00:18.08 Still relevant in today's complex world 00:00:18.51\00:00:22.58 It Is Written 00:00:25.02\00:00:26.29 Sharing messages of hope around the world! 00:00:26.62\00:00:30.63 >>CHRIS: Derek Redmond was a track star for Great Britain. He 00:00:40.34\00:00:44.47 was a champion runner and held multiple records for his speed. He was a part of the 1992 00:00:44.57\00:00:48.81 summer Olympic team. He had trained long and hard for that 00:00:48.91\00:00:53.05 moment in his life. He was racing in the 400-meter sprint. He was a national record holder 00:00:53.15\00:00:58.69 in that race. He had made it to the semifinal round. The gun 00:00:58.79\00:01:03.69 went off and he began his sprint around the track. Less than half way into the race, there 00:01:03.79\00:01:08.60 was a pop - Derek grabbed the backside of his right leg, 00:01:08.70\00:01:14.17 limped and took a knee. He had torn his hamstring - a most painful injury. He had dreamed 00:01:14.27\00:01:20.31 of completing this Olympic race, but the pain was excruciating. 00:01:20.41\00:01:26.92 He stood up and began to hop his way to the finish line. He was lame and in pain. As the 00:01:27.02\00:01:32.22 crowds stood and watched through the background a figure emerged 00:01:32.32\00:01:37.56 and bypassed security. Derek's father Jim came and drew next to 00:01:37.66\00:01:44.17 his son and supported him as they went the entirety of race. The father came to help his 00:01:44.27\00:01:50.31 son finish the race. Friends, we too are a wounded and lame race 00:01:50.41\00:01:54.68 of people. The Father has come to our side and sent us His son 00:01:54.78\00:02:07.79 Jesus - to take us across the finish line. 00:02:07.89\00:02:11.39 We are in part two of our series on Noah, The real story. As we 00:02:12.83\00:02:17.47 look at the passage in Genesis chapter 6 we see that the earth had become a terrible 00:02:17.57\00:02:23.27 place. In Genesis 6:5-8 the Bible says, 00:02:23.37\00:02:35.02 The earth was filled with wickedness, evil, corruption and 00:03:15.56\00:03:21.73 violence. It was a sad place. But in the midst of it all, this is a story of God's grace 00:03:21.83\00:03:28.90 - His unearned favor toward humankind. As we studied in part 00:03:29.00\00:03:35.71 one of our series, we need to understand a bit of history 00:03:35.81\00:03:39.05 before we can understand the story of Noah. In part one of our series we saw that the 00:03:39.15\00:03:44.55 author of all evil is the devil. He is the real reason for pain 00:03:44.65\00:03:49.86 and suffering on this sin sick planet. We studied the history 00:03:49.96\00:03:56.23 and background of where the devil came from. But how did evil enter into the equation of 00:03:56.33\00:04:02.14 this planet's history? 00:04:02.24\00:04:05.97 The story is a rather sad story. It is the story of a great 00:04:07.11\00:04:12.25 deception and a lack of trust. Sometime after Satan was evicted from heaven and sometime 00:04:12.35\00:04:17.45 after the creation of humankind, there is a story recorded of how 00:04:17.55\00:04:22.62 evil came to planet earth. In Genesis 3 it records the story, 00:04:22.72\00:04:31.10 beginning in verse 1, 00:04:31.20\00:04:33.67 When God created humankind, He placed Adam and Eve in the 00:05:11.97\00:05:15.28 Garden of Eden. There in that Garden, God gave Adam and Eve all the vegetation to 00:05:15.38\00:05:21.68 eat. In Genesis 1:29 the Bible describes the original diet, 00:05:21.78\00:05:29.69 God provided Adam and Eve with a total-plant based vegetarian 00:05:44.37\00:05:50.68 diet. Yet there was one item that they couldn't eat. Genes 2:16-17 describe that one 00:05:50.78\00:05:58.22 exception, 00:05:58.32\00:06:01.16 Adam and Eve had all the plants of the Garden to eat from, but 00:06:17.14\00:06:21.94 this one tree - the tree of the knowledge of good and evil wasn't to be eaten from. 00:06:22.04\00:06:27.78 We have no evidence what kind of fruit it was. And evidently, it 00:06:27.88\00:06:33.22 may not have been obvious that it was bad. The only indication of it not being edible was 00:06:33.32\00:06:39.59 God's clear message that it should not be eaten. The tree of 00:06:39.69\00:06:44.33 the knowledge of good and evil was a sign of allegiance. By Adam and Eve obeying, they 00:06:44.43\00:06:50.61 clearly defined their allegiance to God. Satan, who had been cast 00:06:50.71\00:06:55.44 out of heaven, was here on the earth. There in the garden of Eden, he paid a visit 00:06:55.54\00:07:01.48 to the first pair. He caught Eve there in the garden and engaged 00:07:01.58\00:07:08.29 her in dialogue. During this interaction we see that there 00:07:08.39\00:07:13.29 are a series of choices made by Adam and Eve that lead to disastrous results. The 00:07:13.40\00:07:20.87 first choice was that Eve made a choice to be in the presence of 00:07:20.97\00:07:25.91 the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God had told them not to eat it - one clear 00:07:26.01\00:07:31.71 way of never eating it would be to avoid ever being close to the 00:07:31.81\00:07:39.45 tree, but by choosing to go near the tree Eve availed herself to 00:07:39.55\00:07:44.76 temptation which could lead to direct disobedience of God's explicit command. Before 00:07:44.86\00:07:51.10 we're too hard on Eve. Don't we all struggle with this? We 00:07:51.20\00:07:56.14 aren't satisfied to be way back from the edge of the cliff, we have to stand on the edge. 00:07:56.24\00:08:00.21 Friends, if we desire to have a life of victory over sin, we 00:08:00.31\00:08:08.08 have to steer clear of sin - not even get remotely close. 00:08:08.18\00:08:12.95 Here the devil has engaged Eve in a conversation and has lied 00:08:14.29\00:08:19.63 about the character of God. God gave them every tree except one. 00:08:19.73\00:08:25.73 And as Eve defends her position she makes two fatal mistakes, she takes on the devil on her 00:08:25.83\00:08:34.68 own. Friends, we must never take on the devil in our own power - 00:08:34.78\00:08:41.35 we will loose. But in the spirit of God and by His strength, we can always overcome him. 00:08:41.45\00:08:47.79 The second mistake was Eve's overstatement of the facts. You 00:08:47.89\00:08:54.63 see, God had told the pair, not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good 00:08:54.73\00:08:59.57 and evil - but Eve states that God said not to touch it. We 00:08:59.67\00:09:09.44 have no record of God saying such a thing. Once Eve had made the choice to overstate her 00:09:09.54\00:09:15.98 case and essentially lie - she was entrapped in the snare of 00:09:16.08\00:09:22.82 the devil. Then the devil promised a higher state of being if Eve would partake of the 00:09:22.92\00:09:27.13 fruit. She was promised to become like God. The devil was tempting Eve with the 00:09:27.23\00:09:33.87 same thoughts that he, himself had given into - to be God. The 00:09:33.97\00:09:41.18 next verses are probably the saddest verses in all of scripture, because like 00:09:41.28\00:09:46.08 dominoes falling, the choices of Adam and Eve set into motion 00:09:46.18\00:09:52.02 events and consequences that affect all of us still today. Genesis 3:5-6 go on to 00:09:52.12\00:10:00.56 say, 00:10:00.66\00:10:03.40 Eve moves from a knowledge of knowing that the tree is 00:10:33.29\00:10:38.80 forbidden for humankind, to believing that it was good for food. Eve made a choice, a 00:10:38.90\00:10:45.34 choice to trust the devil more than God. And friends, that is 00:10:45.44\00:10:53.48 the choice that each of us make when we choose to sin. We choose 00:10:53.58\00:10:59.02 to not trust God, but to trust in ourselves - ultimately the devil. Eve disobeyed God's 00:10:59.12\00:11:04.96 command and ate the fruit. But it doesn't stop there; Eve also 00:11:05.06\00:11:11.33 gives the fruit to her husband to eat. She wasn't satisfied with her own disobedience and 00:11:11.43\00:11:16.97 chooses to involve someone else. The old adage that misery loves 00:11:17.07\00:11:27.38 company seems to be true for a long time. While the record of Adam's failure is not as 00:11:27.48\00:11:30.79 plain, we can see choices that he made that led to this failure 00:11:30.89\00:11:39.46 as well. What can we say about Adam? Adam also made a choice. 00:11:40.56\00:11:44.93 There at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we have no voice of Adam - so we 00:11:45.03\00:11:51.81 deduce one of two options, either he was being silent or he wasn't there. It would 00:11:51.91\00:11:58.28 seem because he says nothing that he likely wasn't by her 00:11:58.38\00:12:04.75 side. However, either way, what we can say is that Adam was not 00:12:04.85\00:12:09.46 taking his role as spiritual leader seriously. Adam, as the husband, was called to be 00:12:09.56\00:12:15.00 the spiritual leader, protector, and provider for his family. He 00:12:15.10\00:12:20.67 was absent. When Eve brings the fruit to him, Adam is faced with 00:12:20.77\00:12:26.74 a crisis. He knows the result of eating the fruit, he knows that Eve will die, but she 00:12:26.84\00:12:34.82 hadn't yet - maybe, he thought, God wasn't right. He was faced 00:12:34.92\00:12:44.89 with a choice to obey his own feelings or the word of God. Adam was faced with a crisis of 00:12:44.99\00:12:57.44 faith. Ultimately he made a conscientious choice to disobey 00:12:57.54\00:13:09.62 and he also ate. Immediately the pair noticed a change. The robe of Christ's righteousness 00:13:09.72\00:13:16.16 no longer covered them, they were naked. Seeing their shame, 00:13:16.26\00:13:23.97 the sewed a fig leaf covering. Friends, Adam and Eve did what we all do; they tried 00:13:24.07\00:13:32.11 to cover their sin. And with these choices, they created a 00:13:32.21\00:13:40.85 separation between them and God. God came to the Garden, as He had often done to spend 00:13:40.95\00:13:50.46 time with the created couple, but He was met with their 00:13:50.56\00:13:58.10 absence. Verses 8-13 of Genesis 3 tell the rest of the story, 00:13:58.20\00:14:05.84 The Bible now clearly outlines the origins of the problems of 00:15:03.40\00:15:08.44 Noah's day. How did sin enter this world, through the choices 00:15:08.54\00:15:13.78 of Adam and Eve. Oh, how very sad. That story comes down through history until today. The 00:15:13.88\00:15:21.68 story of God seeking out the children that He has been separated from. The 00:15:21.78\00:15:31.49 reaction of Adam and Eve is so disturbing friends. As God 00:15:31.59\00:15:37.17 reaches out His hand of mercy, Adam blames his wife and ultimately God, and then Eve 00:15:37.27\00:15:45.71 blames the serpent - the blame game. This leads to several 00:15:45.81\00:15:56.38 consequences. The serpent is cursed. The devil is promised a deathblow. Human kind is 00:15:56.48\00:16:03.39 promised a savior, but the consequences are no longer residing in the garden. 00:16:03.49\00:16:11.80 And the promise of death - it wouldn't come immediately, but 00:16:11.90\00:16:17.14 slowly the pair would age and become old. However, the pair 00:16:17.24\00:16:24.35 would experience death sooner than expected. 00:16:24.45\00:16:28.95 Adam and Even had children. Cain and Abel were sons. Cain was a 00:16:29.78\00:16:34.99 farmer, he tilled the ground but his brother Able was a shepherd, 00:16:35.09\00:16:39.69 he kept sheep. The Bible records their story in Genesis 4. By 00:16:39.79\00:16:46.30 this time, God required sacrifices that would symbolize and foreshadow the sacrifice 00:16:46.40\00:16:52.64 of Christ. This sacrifice was to be an animal. Cain and Abel 00:16:52.74\00:16:59.15 brought their sacrifices before God, but there was a problem Cain brought fruit and 00:16:59.25\00:17:05.69 vegetables, while Abel brought an animal sacrifice. Cain didn't 00:17:05.79\00:17:13.46 follow God's instructions - he followed his own way. Cain became angry, because 00:17:13.56\00:17:18.77 God wouldn't accept his offering. Cain was so angered by 00:17:18.87\00:17:28.51 this that it led to the first murder ever recorded in history. In Genesis 4:8, the Bible 00:17:28.61\00:17:35.72 says, 00:17:35.82\00:17:37.32 Cain chose to take his brother's life. After murdering Abel, God 00:17:48.20\00:17:52.47 asks Cain what he had done. God had to punish Cain. Cain was marked and he left the 00:17:52.57\00:18:01.58 presence of God. Cain settled in the land of Nod and there, he 00:18:01.68\00:18:07.45 began a people. The descendants of Cain would become a people who were vehemently 00:18:07.55\00:18:11.72 opposed to God. Instead of turning from his sin, Cain seemed to pass it on to 00:18:11.82\00:18:19.53 eventually lead to a people who were wicked, evil, corrupt and 00:18:19.63\00:18:31.81 violent. The story of Noah and the sin of Noah's day begins with the sin of Adam and 00:18:31.91\00:18:36.48 Eve and their son Cain. The environment of the days of Noah 00:18:36.58\00:18:43.25 was created by choices, choices throughout generations to not do 00:18:43.35\00:18:52.73 right and not to choose God. 00:18:52.83\00:18:54.56 Friends, we each have a choice. There is a war raging over each 00:18:55.86\00:19:01.97 one of us. Will you make a choice to be obedient to God and follow Him or will you 00:19:02.07\00:19:06.34 choose selfishly to follow your own ways? God is calling each of 00:19:06.44\00:19:13.31 us today. Like Derek Redman's father, He wants to draw near to 00:19:13.42\00:19:20.09 you. He knows your broken, He knows you're in pain and He wants to assist you and take you 00:19:20.19\00:19:28.80 all the way to the finish line. He is calling you and He is 00:19:28.90\00:19:39.97 calling me to break the cycle of sin and pain. Let the cycle of sin and evil stop with you. 00:19:40.08\00:19:53.36 Today let's choose to follow Jesus and His ways and live on 00:19:53.46\00:19:58.89 the paths of righteousness. You won't regret it. Would you like to accept the grace and 00:19:58.99\00:20:06.10 mercy of God today and follow Him? Today would you like to say 00:20:06.20\00:20:11.21 that you want God alone to rule on the throne of your heart? Do you want to say that 00:20:11.31\00:20:17.35 you desire God and God alone? Listen to this song and may our 00:20:17.45\00:20:26.79 prayer be that we would choose God and God Alone. 00:20:26.89\00:20:30.83 God and God alone 00:20:34.63\00:20:40.07 Created all these things we call our own 00:20:40.67\00:20:47.94 From the mighty to the small 00:20:48.94\00:20:52.51 The glory in them all 00:20:52.78\00:20:56.15 Is God's and God's alone 00:20:56.52\00:21:03.79 God and God alone 00:21:04.39\00:21:10.00 Reveals the truth of all we call unknown 00:21:10.40\00:21:17.81 And all the best and worst of man 00:21:18.37\00:21:22.08 Won't change the master's plan 00:21:22.48\00:21:25.88 It's God's and God's alone 00:21:26.28\00:21:33.29 God and God alone 00:21:34.22\00:21:39.96 Is fit to take the universe's throne 00:21:40.36\00:21:48.07 Let everything that lives 00:21:48.64\00:21:52.01 Reserve its truest praise 00:21:52.44\00:21:57.61 For God and God alone 00:21:57.98\00:22:05.82 God and God alone 00:22:09.82\00:22:15.40 Will be the joy of our eternal home 00:22:15.73\00:22:23.67 He will be our one desire 00:22:24.14\00:22:27.44 Our hearts will never tire 00:22:27.78\00:22:31.15 Of God and God alone 00:22:31.51\00:22:38.59 God and God alone 00:22:39.62\00:22:45.39 Is fit take to universe's throne 00:22:45.66\00:22:53.13 Let everything that lives 00:22:53.60\00:22:57.37 Reserve its truest praise 00:22:57.67\00:23:02.98 For God and God alone 00:23:03.41\00:23:10.42 God and God alone 00:23:11.35\00:23:17.09 Is fit to take the universe's throne 00:23:17.39\00:23:25.27 Let everything that lives 00:23:25.70\00:23:29.10 Reserve its truest praise 00:23:29.44\00:23:34.61 For God and God 00:23:35.04\00:23:42.08 Let everything that lives 00:23:42.62\00:23:47.56 Reserve its truest praise 00:23:47.82\00:23:53.96 For God and God alone 00:23:55.16\00:24:16.58 >>CHRIS: God and God alone. Do you want God to reign supreme in 00:24:18.85\00:24:23.32 your life? Do you want him to sit on the throne of your heart? 00:24:23.43\00:24:29.53 All it takes is to ask. The cycle of sin can stop with you. It doesn't need to continue on. 00:24:29.63\00:24:37.61 It doesn't matter what your background is. It doesn't matter 00:24:37.71\00:24:40.24 what your past is. It doesn't matter what you've done. God offers the opportunity to wipe 00:24:40.34\00:24:46.55 the slate clean and to begin again. It's a new life. The 00:24:46.65\00:24:52.29 Bible refers to it as being born again. Jesus desires us to re-enter a relationship 00:24:52.39\00:25:02.50 with Him. Back in the garden of Eden, we were separated from God 00:25:02.60\00:25:07.80 by sin. When Jesus came to this earth, he was the bridge to reconnect us. And the 00:25:07.90\00:25:14.74 Bible is a story of God's seeking, as he sought for Adam 00:25:14.84\00:25:21.25 that day, asking, "Where are you?" He wants you and he wants you to be in His life. He wants 00:25:21.35\00:25:28.12 you to have a relationship with him. Today, do you want to 00:25:28.22\00:25:34.66 choose God and God alone? If that's your desire, let's pray together. Heavenly Father, 00:25:34.76\00:25:42.67 we want to stop the cycle of sin. We no longer want to serve 00:25:42.77\00:25:50.48 two masters. We want to serve you and you alone. So today we invite you into our heart. We 00:25:50.58\00:25:57.49 invite Jesus into our heart. May Jesus reign supreme. May you 00:25:57.59\00:26:02.26 reign supreme in our heart.
