>>Announcer: It has stood the test of time. 00:00:11.60\00:00:14.36 God's book, The Bible 00:00:14.73\00:00:17.60 Still relevant in today's complex world 00:00:18.73\00:00:22.30 It Is Written 00:00:24.80\00:00:26.50 Sharing messages of hope around the world! 00:00:27.33\00:00:31.00 BILL: Welcome to the It is Written Canada television 00:00:38.93\00:00:41.06 program. My name is Bill Santos. 00:00:41.06\00:00:42.70 Thanks for taking the time to join us today. 00:00:42.70\00:00:46.56 You know, every so often on our program, we have special guests. 00:00:46.56\00:00:49.33 And I have to tell you, as the host of the program, it's always 00:00:49.33\00:00:53.73 a treat to have guests that come with life experiences that I know are going to benefit 00:00:53.73\00:00:59.96 all of us as we listen to them. 00:00:59.96\00:01:01.93 And today, we have a guest. 00:01:01.93\00:01:04.56 He's probably not unknown to many Canadian viewers 'cause he 00:01:04.56\00:01:09.63 has been on Canadian television quite a bit. 00:01:09.63\00:01:11.56 He is a renowned concert violinist, Jaime Jorge. 00:01:11.56\00:01:15.40 Jaime, thank you so much for being here. 00:01:15.40\00:01:17.53 JAIME: Thank you for having me. 00:01:17.53\00:01:18.86 I'm excited to be here. 00:01:18.86\00:01:20.06 BILL: That's great. 00:01:20.06\00:01:21.53 Now, this is the first time you and I have had a chance to be on 00:01:21.53\00:01:23.36 the program. 00:01:23.36\00:01:24.80 But like I said earlier, many of our Canadian viewers would be 00:01:24.80\00:01:27.40 familiar with you because you have been on Canadian television 00:01:27.40\00:01:32.60 quite a bit, playing. 00:01:32.60\00:01:36.33 And God has gifted you, man, in a mighty, mighty way. 00:01:36.33\00:01:38.73 But we're going to get a chance to hear you today. 00:01:38.73\00:01:42.26 But for the benefit of those few that may not know you, I'd like 00:01:42.26\00:01:46.70 to learn a little bit about you. 00:01:46.70\00:01:48.20 JAIME: Sure. 00:01:48.20\00:01:49.46 BILL: So you know, tell us, you know, where were you born? 00:01:49.46\00:01:52.83 Where are you from? 00:01:52.83\00:01:53.93 And let's get going on who you are. 00:01:53.93\00:01:55.43 JAIME: Well, I was born in the Communist island of Cuba. 00:01:55.43\00:01:57.80 And I was fortunate and blessed to be born into a Christian 00:01:57.80\00:02:01.76 home. My parents already knew the Lord. 00:02:01.76\00:02:04.10 They had accepted the gift of salvation. 00:02:04.10\00:02:06.30 And so I was born in an environment of love and worship 00:02:06.30\00:02:12.36 to God, even though we were in a country that persecuted Christians, oftentimes. 00:02:12.36\00:02:17.10 But for me and my sister, because there's two of us, I think we didn't really 00:02:17.10\00:02:21.56 experience the kind of reality that my parents did, and others, 00:02:21.56\00:02:26.53 because we were shielded from so much of it. 00:02:26.53\00:02:29.20 However, we still experienced trials and tribulations at 00:02:29.20\00:02:33.00 school. In order for you to be a communist, you had to wear a 00:02:33.00\00:02:38.83 little scarf. It was called a Pioneer scarf. 00:02:38.83\00:02:41.36 And if you didn't show up at school wearing it, when you 00:02:41.36\00:02:45.76 lined up in the morning with all the other hundreds of other students, everybody wore 00:02:45.76\00:02:49.16 the same uniform, it was very easy to pick out those young 00:02:49.16\00:02:53.23 people who did not wear their scarves. 00:02:53.23\00:02:55.23 And so from the very beginning of every day, teachers and the 00:02:55.23\00:02:58.60 principal would know who was a Christian. 00:02:58.60\00:03:00.56 And sometimes we would be interrogated half of the 00:03:00.56\00:03:03.50 morning. "Why are you a Christian? 00:03:03.50\00:03:05.46 Why do you believe in God? 00:03:05.46\00:03:06.30 Where is God? 00:03:06.30\00:03:07.40 Show God to us so that we can believe too. 00:03:07.40\00:03:09.56 " And so we had some of those challenges from the very 00:03:09.56\00:03:13.16 beginning. But we were taught to love Jesus and to serve him no 00:03:13.16\00:03:17.36 matter what. And so when I started playing the violin at the age of 5, and it was 00:03:17.36\00:03:21.50 because my mother forced me, not because I wanted to. I want to 00:03:21.50\00:03:25.80 make that very clear. she recognized that I had a talent, began to take me to violin 00:03:25.80\00:03:30.53 lessons, and I excelled. 00:03:30.53\00:03:32.93 And so when I was 9, I participated in a competition 00:03:32.93\00:03:36.33 that was at the local school. 00:03:36.33\00:03:38.30 From there, we kept going up, city's, province, national, and 00:03:38.30\00:03:43.86 I got to the very last round, and I played in an auditorium full of people from all 00:03:43.86\00:03:47.93 over the island, participants, representatives from all 00:03:47.93\00:03:51.16 over the country. 00:03:51.16\00:03:53.00 When I finished playing and I walked off the stage, the judges 00:03:53.00\00:03:56.73 said, "You played so well that you deserve to win first place. 00:03:56.73\00:04:00.83 " And of course, I lit up. 00:04:00.83\00:04:02.86 But one of them said, "We know that you're a Christian. 00:04:02.86\00:04:07.13 And in this country, we don't believe in God. 00:04:07.13\00:04:09.73 And we cannot acknowledge anybody that does. 00:04:09.73\00:04:12.53 But if tonight, you go out on that stage and you make a public 00:04:12.53\00:04:18.40 declaration that you will renounce your faith in God." BILL: Oh my goodness. 00:04:18.40\00:04:20.96 Now, how old were you? 00:04:20.96\00:04:22.10 JAIME: Nine. 00:04:22.10\00:04:23.33 BILL: Wow. 00:04:23.33\00:04:24.60 JAIME: ". we will give you first place and the big trophy. 00:04:24.60\00:04:26.66 " But my parents had taught me as it says in God's word that it 00:04:26.66\00:04:29.16 is better to obey God rather than men. 00:04:29.16\00:04:31.63 And so I said, "Thank you, but no. 00:04:31.63\00:04:34.76 " And they said, "Okay. 00:04:34.76\00:04:36.13 " I went home, lost that opportunity. 00:04:36.13\00:04:38.16 Some time passed. 00:04:38.16\00:04:39.90 And one of these same judges came to my house to offer me a 00:04:39.90\00:04:43.23 scholarship on behalf of the government of Cuba to go to Moscow to study, he said, in the 00:04:43.23\00:04:47.66 best music school in the world, the Moscow Conservatory of Music 00:04:47.66\00:04:50.26 in Russia. 00:04:50.26\00:04:51.96 He said, "You will be famous. 00:04:51.96\00:04:53.96 Your family will have a better life. 00:04:53.96\00:04:55.76 All you have to do is sign this paper that says you don't 00:04:55.76\00:04:59.80 believe in God anymore. 00:04:59.80\00:05:01.16 " BILL: Oh my goodness. 00:05:01.16\00:05:02.40 JAIME: He said, "Now, I don't care what you believe in. 00:05:02.40\00:05:03.83 Just sign this. 00:05:03.83\00:05:05.16 " BILL: Just sign the paper. 00:05:05.16\00:05:06.56 JAIME: And I said, "Listen, if that's the condition, you're 00:05:06.56\00:05:08.66 wasting your time 'cause you already know my answer. 00:05:08.66\00:05:10.30 " And he stood up and he said, "You're right. 00:05:10.30\00:05:12.86 You're wasting my time and the time of the communist government 00:05:12.86\00:05:16.30 because you are never going to be a good violinist. 00:05:16.30\00:05:18.46 " And he stormed off and left and I never saw him again. 00:05:18.46\00:05:21.76 BILL: Wow. 00:05:21.76\00:05:23.06 JAIME: But God has greater plans than we can imagine. 00:05:23.06\00:05:28.73 And God is always faithful. 00:05:28.73\00:05:30.60 And when we are faithful, we're able to see what he has for us. 00:05:30.60\00:05:35.06 And you know, I was walking away from the biggest opportunity of 00:05:35.06\00:05:38.80 my life. 00:05:38.80\00:05:39.86 BILL: Yes, of course. 00:05:39.86\00:05:41.33 JAIME: But I was walking away from something even bigger if I 00:05:41.33\00:05:43.33 would've been willing to renounce my faith in God, and I wasn't going to do that. 00:05:43.33\00:05:46.36 But my family got the news just a couple of months after that, 00:05:46.36\00:05:52.23 that we were being allowed to leave Cuba and go to the United 00:05:52.23\00:05:55.70 States of America. My dad had dreamed of and tried for years 00:05:55.70\00:06:00.23 to leave Cuba. And the opportunity came and the Lord opened the doors and my family 00:06:00.23\00:06:04.86 went to the U.S. 00:06:04.86\00:06:06.33 where I had many, many other opportunities to continue to 00:06:06.33\00:06:09.33 further the talent that God has given me. 00:06:09.33\00:06:11.73 Because really, what I do and playing the violin is not an 00:06:11.73\00:06:15.13 ability that I deserved or that I earned. 00:06:15.13\00:06:17.16 It was given to me by God. 00:06:17.16\00:06:18.70 And my mother taught me that I always needed to dedicate my 00:06:18.70\00:06:23.10 talents for God's honour and glory. 00:06:23.10\00:06:24.73 And so now I have the wonderful privilege to share this talent 00:06:24.73\00:06:28.33 with others and remind other people that their talents also have the opportunity 00:06:28.33\00:06:32.93 to be used in the Lord's work to bring others to Jesus Christ. 00:06:32.93\00:06:37.90 And as you know, because you do God's work, there is nothing 00:06:37.90\00:06:41.43 better to do when we do God's will and we fulfill his calling 00:06:41.43\00:06:46.30 in our lives. BILL: Yeah, I've often said God can use anyone. 00:06:46.30\00:06:47.50 He just looks for us to be available to be used by him. 00:06:47.50\00:06:50.50 JAIME: That's right. 00:06:50.50\00:06:51.83 BILL: So how old were you when you came to the United States? 00:06:51.83\00:06:53.30 JAIME: Ten years old. 00:06:53.30\00:06:54.06 BILL: Ten years old. 00:06:54.06\00:06:55.33 JAIME: It was in 1980. 00:06:55.33\00:06:56.86 BILL: That must have been quite a shock for you to come to the 00:06:56.86\00:06:59.50 United States. JAIME: It was like going from black and white television to colour 00:06:59.50\00:07:02.63 television. 00:07:02.63\00:07:03.60 BILL: Right, okay. 00:07:03.60\00:07:04.76 JAIME: You know. 00:07:04.76\00:07:05.83 I remember the day we arrived. 00:07:05.83\00:07:07.10 I ate an apple and a grape for the very first time. 00:07:07.10\00:07:09.10 And I chewed gum for the very first time in my life. 00:07:09.10\00:07:11.50 In fact, I chewed it for so long that it disintegrated. 00:07:11.50\00:07:16.16 And then I wanted to swallow it and they said, "No, no, no, you 00:07:16.16\00:07:19.76 spit it out and then there's more. 00:07:19.76\00:07:21.36 " BILL: You get another one. 00:07:21.36\00:07:22.20 JAIME: There was more of everything. 00:07:22.20\00:07:23.73 I had never been to a store. 00:07:23.73\00:07:25.30 The stores in Cuba are like this: you walk in. 00:07:25.30\00:07:28.56 There's a counter. 00:07:28.56\00:07:30.10 You give the person who works there the booklet that the 00:07:30.10\00:07:33.80 government gives you which says how many pounds or kilos of rice and beans you get every 00:07:33.80\00:07:39.36 day, how many loaves of bread, how many you get every month, 00:07:39.36\00:07:42.80 not every day. 00:07:42.80\00:07:44.00 And then they weight it, bring it. 00:07:44.00\00:07:45.83 You pay and you walk out. 00:07:45.83\00:07:47.90 BILL: You walk out. 00:07:47.90\00:07:49.40 JAIME: You can't choose whether you want yogurt that's Greek 00:07:49.40\00:07:51.03 yogurt or flavoured yogurt or this kind of juice, none of 00:07:51.03\00:07:54.30 that. And when I walked into a store and I saw aisles and aisles packed with food 00:07:54.30\00:07:59.53 and different types of the same kind of food, I was just amazed. 00:07:59.53\00:08:04.20 I was overwhelmed. 00:08:04.20\00:08:05.56 I'd never been to a clothing store before where you could 00:08:05.56\00:08:08.70 just choose from all kinds of sizes and colours and styles and 00:08:08.70\00:08:13.00 get what you wanted; you just had to pay. 00:08:13.00\00:08:14.50 We didn't have that before. 00:08:14.50\00:08:15.83 It was absolutely amazing. 00:08:15.83\00:08:17.53 BILL: Wow. 00:08:17.53\00:08:18.40 So you pursued your gift of violin. 00:08:18.40\00:08:22.96 At what point did you realize that this is something special 00:08:22.96\00:08:26.93 here, I mean, that God is going to, you know, do something special with me here? 00:08:26.93\00:08:30.46 JAIME: You know, interestingly enough, I hated the violin. 00:08:30.46\00:08:33.53 My mother forced me to practice for 15 years. 00:08:33.53\00:08:36.46 And it wasn't until I was a freshman in college in the U.S. 00:08:36.46\00:08:41.13 I was 18 years old. 00:08:41.13\00:08:42.96 And I played for a talent show at school. 00:08:42.96\00:08:46.80 And I remember playing this classical piece of music and I 00:08:46.80\00:08:51.53 was scared to death because I thought, "Nobody's going to like 00:08:51.53\00:08:56.20 classical music. " All the other participants were singing and dancing and doing rock 00:08:56.20\00:08:59.76 and roll and rap and all this stuff. 00:08:59.76\00:09:02.00 I thought, "When I get up there, people are going to boo me, you 00:09:02.00\00:09:04.70 know. " And I was scared. 00:09:04.70\00:09:06.43 I went out there. 00:09:06.43\00:09:07.76 My hands were sweaty. 00:09:07.76\00:09:10.53 My palms on the inside, but on the outside, they were stiff. 00:09:10.53\00:09:13.86 And I just started playing. 00:09:13.86\00:09:15.50 And I said, "Lord, help me to be a light and an example here for 00:09:15.50\00:09:18.33 You. " When I finished playing that song, the whole place came 00:09:18.33\00:09:21.60 down. People on their feet, clapping, yelling, cheering. 00:09:21.60\00:09:24.60 For weeks after that, they would come and hunt me down as I 00:09:24.60\00:09:28.56 walked around the campus saying, "Who are you? 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.16 Why are you different? 00:09:30.16\00:09:31.83 What is it about you that is different? 00:09:31.83\00:09:33.66 " And I saw two things there that night. 00:09:33.66\00:09:35.73 Number one, the power of music, and number two, the power of 00:09:35.73\00:09:40.26 being a servant of God. 00:09:40.26\00:09:41.63 People could tell that there was something different about me. 00:09:41.63\00:09:43.70 And I thought, "You know what? 00:09:43.70\00:09:45.20 I want to use this for God's honour and glory. 00:09:45.20\00:09:48.43 " But I didn't want to be a musician; I wanted to be a doctor, 'cause I went to 00:09:48.43\00:09:52.16 medical school. 00:09:52.16\00:09:53.63 And it was into my second year that the Lord called me to walk 00:09:53.63\00:09:58.50 away from medicine to do music medicine, music ministry 00:09:58.50\00:10:02.93 fulltime. BILL: Earlier, we had the opportunity to have you tape 00:10:02.93\00:10:08.33 a couple songs. We're going to listen to one right now. 00:10:08.33\00:10:10.30 Maybe you can give us a brief introduction on what you're going to be playing 00:10:10.30\00:10:14.20 for us. 00:10:14.20\00:10:15.06 JAIME: Absolutely. 00:10:15.06\00:10:16.36 You know, we don't have a lot of guarantees in this world. 00:10:16.36\00:10:17.80 But we can be guaranteed of the fact that God has secured our 00:10:17.80\00:10:21.73 salvation through Jesus dying on the cross for us. 00:10:21.73\00:10:24.50 And so that is an assurance that we have of his love for us. 00:10:24.50\00:10:28.43 It never goes away, it never dies, it never changes. 00:10:28.43\00:10:30.83 And this song simply says, "Blessed assurance, Jesus is 00:10:30.83\00:10:36.23 mine. " 00:10:36.23\00:10:37.03 (Violin Music) 00:10:40.80\00:13:23.36 BILL: Well, that was beautiful. 00:13:56.80\00:13:58.53 If your mom's listening, Mrs. Jaime Jorge, thank you for 00:13:59.06\00:14:02.10 insisting that your son continue to play. 00:14:02.50\00:14:04.93 JAIME: I will let her know. 00:14:04.93\00:14:06.46 BILL: So you leave medical school and you pursue the violin 00:14:06.46\00:14:09.73 as a ministry. Now, you've had the opportunity to play all around the world in some 00:14:09.73\00:14:14.60 pretty interesting places. 00:14:14.60\00:14:17.86 Is there one that sort of stands out for you? 00:14:17.86\00:14:19.83 JAIME: Well, yes. 00:14:19.83\00:14:23.40 BILL: Hey, I know that's a tough question because there's 00:14:23.40\00:14:25.73 probably a bunch of them, right? 00:14:25.73\00:14:27.03 But. JAIME: But you might be surprised by my answer. 00:14:27.03\00:14:29.13 I was in Mexico three years ago. 00:14:29.13\00:14:32.96 And I was invited to do a number of concerts in a couple of days. 00:14:32.96\00:14:38.20 You know, over there, it's just shotgun. 00:14:38.20\00:14:40.10 You go and you go and you go. 00:14:40.10\00:14:41.76 BILL: Right. 00:14:41.76\00:14:42.73 JAIME: And it was great. 00:14:42.73\00:14:44.46 And I played, I remember, for a mayor and a governor in 00:14:44.46\00:14:49.03 different places. And then they took me to a hut church. 00:14:49.03\00:14:52.06 And the floor was dirt. 00:14:52.06\00:14:55.96 And there was no sound system, there was no fancy lighting, but 00:14:55.96\00:15:00.30 there were such humble and sincere people there. 00:15:00.30\00:15:05.03 And at the end of the concert, a couple of them gave their hearts 00:15:05.03\00:15:09.56 to the Lord. 00:15:09.56\00:15:10.86 And I will never, ever forget that. 00:15:10.86\00:15:13.46 And it reminds me of the fact that what we do isn't just to 00:15:13.46\00:15:19.70 play for some president or some king or some dignitary. 00:15:19.70\00:15:22.26 It is to touch people's lives. 00:15:22.26\00:15:24.76 And in the simplest of places, there are people who are hungry 00:15:24.76\00:15:29.40 for God's word. 00:15:29.40\00:15:31.06 And it is our privilege to be able to reach those people as 00:15:31.06\00:15:34.86 well. BILL: And you have literally played for presidents 00:15:34.86\00:15:39.43 and kings. And isn't it incredible to know that the power of the King of kings 00:15:39.43\00:15:45.00 worked through you in that little hut church to reach those souls for Jesus Christ? 00:15:45.00\00:15:49.73 JAIME: That's right. 00:15:49.73\00:15:51.00 BILL: It's eternal consequences, citizens of the Kingdom. 00:15:51.00\00:15:53.93 JAIME: Amen. 00:15:53.93\00:15:54.96 BILL: Jaime, you've been at this now for how long? 00:15:54.96\00:15:56.53 JAIME: 25 years. 00:15:56.53\00:15:57.60 BILL: 25 years. 00:15:57.60\00:15:59.10 My goodness, it is a lifetime. 00:15:59.10\00:16:01.93 JAIME: It is. 00:16:01.93\00:16:03.33 And I didn't imagine that it was going to last this long, you 00:16:03.33\00:16:06.20 know. When I walked away from medical school, I really had no expectations that a 00:16:06.20\00:16:12.26 whole lot was going to happen other than the fact that I was 00:16:12.26\00:16:16.80 allowing God to use me. 00:16:16.80\00:16:18.46 And I say that because all of us have that choice to make. 00:16:18.46\00:16:21.10 Like you said, He wants to use us, but do we make ourselves 00:16:21.10\00:16:24.50 available to Him? 00:16:24.50\00:16:25.46 So I didn't know what was going to happen. 00:16:25.46\00:16:27.36 I just knew that God was going to have to provide 'cause the 00:16:27.36\00:16:31.36 salary of a doctor is a little different than the salary of a Christian musician, 00:16:31.36\00:16:34.50 you know. 00:16:34.50\00:16:35.96 But I'm humbled the way that God has blessed, not necessarily on 00:16:35.96\00:16:40.83 human terms, 'cause I think we look at success in different 00:16:40.83\00:16:45.00 ways. For us, I think as human beings, success is money and fame and fortune and 00:16:45.00\00:16:50.06 power. 00:16:50.06\00:16:51.60 For God, I believe success is how well He can use those people 00:16:51.60\00:16:56.33 that allow Him to use them. 00:16:56.33\00:16:58.10 Bottom line. 00:16:58.10\00:17:00.10 And so as I look back, it almost seems impossible and it is, 00:17:00.10\00:17:05.10 except that God has been the one guiding. 00:17:05.10\00:17:06.76 And when God guides, we don't have any reason to be afraid and 00:17:06.76\00:17:12.00 anything to worry about because He's going to work it out. 00:17:12.00\00:17:15.46 BILL: Yeah, it is an incredible experience because you know, you 00:17:15.46\00:17:20.93 lack the security of, you know, a fulltime employment, and you've really placed 00:17:20.93\00:17:27.80 yourself out there at God's will. 00:17:27.80\00:17:29.46 And He has sustained for these 25 years and you've impacted 00:17:29.46\00:17:36.46 many, many lives. You know, we just had you do a concert for us just the other night just 00:17:36.46\00:17:38.83 because we taped this. 00:17:38.83\00:17:40.36 And dozens and dozens of people came to me and said that they 00:17:40.36\00:17:44.36 were moved by your playing, because it's beyond. I mean, you're definitely a gifted 00:17:44.36\00:17:49.90 musician. 00:17:49.90\00:17:51.36 But there's something that comes through in that music that is 00:17:51.36\00:17:55.90 this ministry, this call to Jesus Christ that I think is so, so powerful, Jaime. 00:17:55.90\00:18:02.23 JAIME: Praise the Lord. 00:18:02.23\00:18:03.33 BILL: And God has used you mightily. 00:18:03.33\00:18:05.60 We wanted to talk a little bit about. I want to leave some time 00:18:05.60\00:18:09.90 'cause I know you have a special project that commemorated your 00:18:09.90\00:18:15.66 25th anniversary. But as you look back over, you know, your 25 years, you know, serving God 00:18:15.66\00:18:21.20 this way, we've talked about this special moment there in 00:18:21.20\00:18:24.80 Mexico. Any regrets? 00:18:24.80\00:18:26.30 JAIME: Oh, certainly. 00:18:26.30\00:18:28.40 You always pay a price for what you do. 00:18:28.40\00:18:33.23 And sometimes people come up to me and say, "Oh, that TV 00:18:33.23\00:18:39.43 personality or religious personality, you know, I heard that something happened or they 00:18:39.43\00:18:43.83 got sick or their life sort of fell apart. 00:18:43.83\00:18:46.76 " You know, I think one of the most challenging and difficult 00:18:46.76\00:18:52.30 things I've ever gone through was losing my marriage. 00:18:52.30\00:18:54.10 I never imagined when I got married that this could or would 00:18:54.10\00:18:59.10 happen. And yet, it did. 00:18:59.10\00:19:01.30 And yeah, you betcha, it is a regret. 00:19:01.30\00:19:03.86 And for a long time, I dealt with guilt. 00:19:03.86\00:19:06.93 I dealt with these feelings of inadequateness, until the 00:19:06.93\00:19:11.96 Lord reminded me that it isn't about me; it's about Him. 00:19:11.96\00:19:16.86 Because I was thinking about walking away and never playing 00:19:16.86\00:19:20.10 the violin again. 00:19:20.10\00:19:21.06 BILL: Wow. 00:19:21.06\00:19:22.60 JAIME: How could I stand up in front of people and tell them 00:19:22.60\00:19:23.66 anything when my life is a mess, you know? 00:19:23.66\00:19:25.40 And I remember God saying to me one time, "Go out there and play 00:19:25.40\00:19:29.70 and talk. It's not about you; it's about Me. 00:19:29.70\00:19:31.26 " And it really changed my approach because you get used to 00:19:31.26\00:19:36.73 the lights and the focus being on you. 00:19:36.73\00:19:38.53 It really isn't about me. 00:19:38.53\00:19:39.86 It's not about you. 00:19:39.86\00:19:40.83 It's about Jesus Christ. 00:19:40.83\00:19:42.36 And it gave me strength to go out and it gave me hope that 00:19:42.36\00:19:46.13 even when I make mistakes and I make big mistakes like that or my life falls apart, that God 00:19:46.13\00:19:49.63 can still work in my life and He can renew and He can change 00:19:49.63\00:19:55.50 things and He can redo things. 00:19:55.50\00:19:57.20 And I am thankful for what has happened and what God has done. 00:19:57.20\00:20:01.40 BILL: Let me ask you something: would you be willing to come 00:20:01.40\00:20:04.86 back next week? 00:20:04.86\00:20:05.86 'Cause I. and talk specifically. JAIME: Yeah. 00:20:05.86\00:20:07.76 BILL: . about the breakdown. JAIME: You bet. 00:20:07.76\00:20:09.76 BILL: . of your marriage? 00:20:09.76\00:20:11.13 JAIME: You bet. 00:20:11.13\00:20:12.66 BILL: 'Cause I've got to believe that there's people listening 00:20:12.66\00:20:13.83 here that are going through, have gone through the same 00:20:13.83\00:20:15.60 thing. And I think your experience can impact. 00:20:15.60\00:20:19.53 And so is that. JAIME: You betcha. 00:20:19.53\00:20:21.10 BILL: . okay? 00:20:21.10\00:20:22.63 It's not that I want to cut the subject down right now, but I 00:20:22.63\00:20:24.16 think we need to dedicate an appropriate amount of time to this, 'cause I believe you can 00:20:24.16\00:20:27.60 truly help someone. 00:20:27.60\00:20:30.83 JAIME: I hope so. 00:20:30.83\00:20:32.40 BILL: Tell us a little bit about this special project that you 00:20:32.40\00:20:35.43 put together to commemorate your 25 years in ministry. 00:20:35.43\00:20:38.53 JAIME: Yes. 00:20:38.53\00:20:40.10 Well, I was on a cruise to Alaska with my sister a couple 00:20:40.10\00:20:43.36 years ago, and she said, "Why don't we do something? 00:20:43.36\00:20:45.30 " And the idea at first was just, "Let's do a concert, you 00:20:45.30\00:20:48.63 know. We'll have people, we'll invite those that have been a 00:20:48.63\00:20:52.23 part of the ministry and have supported," and this and that. 00:20:52.23\00:20:54.10 And then she said, "Well, why don't we invite some of your 00:20:54.10\00:20:57.90 musician friends? " And then I started thinking even bigger 00:20:57.90\00:21:01.53 than that. "Well, why don't we have an orchestra, a choir, a 00:21:01.53\00:21:04.70 band? Why don't we record this to turn into a live concert DVD 00:21:04.70\00:21:08.33 and a documentary? 00:21:08.33\00:21:09.80 " And so we began to work towards this. 00:21:09.80\00:21:11.93 The Lord opened the doors, because when you do a project 00:21:11.93\00:21:15.50 like this, it's not an easy feat. 00:21:15.50\00:21:16.76 I brought it before the Lord. 00:21:16.76\00:21:18.56 You know, we were going to need a lot of resources, a lot of 00:21:18.56\00:21:21.56 time, a lot of help. 00:21:21.56\00:21:22.60 And the Lord opened the doors. 00:21:22.60\00:21:24.00 In November of 2012, we had a concert in Chattanooga, 00:21:24.00\00:21:28.63 Tennessee, and a band, an orchestra, a choir came 00:21:28.63\00:21:31.70 together. And then some of these friends that I invited were also 00:21:31.70\00:21:35.30 able to come. And so we had duets during the concert; we had. with everybody joining in. 00:21:35.30\00:21:41.26 And I had the privilege of the participation of Michael Card, 00:21:41.26\00:21:46.10 one of the most successful singer/songwriters in Christian 00:21:46.10\00:21:50.26 music. Larnelle Harris, one of my very favourite singers as 00:21:50.26\00:21:54.03 well. Kirk Whalum, who is an amazing sax player. 00:21:54.03\00:21:56.96 He used to give Bible studies to Whitney Houston. 00:21:56.96\00:22:00.90 BILL: Isn't that something? 00:22:00.90\00:22:02.06 JAIME: He was her sax player. 00:22:02.06\00:22:03.36 And they would travel together and he would pray with her. 00:22:03.36\00:22:04.86 And some other friends, Sam Ocampo, Jennifer LaMountain, 00:22:04.86\00:22:07.93 John Stoddart, and we were able to put this project together for God's honour and glory. 00:22:07.93\00:22:11.46 And when people are watching this now, whether it's on 00:22:11.46\00:22:15.26 television or after the concerts, people are saying, 00:22:15.26\00:22:18.33 "You know what? I want to either give my heart to the Lord or I want to dedicate my life, 00:22:18.33\00:22:23.70 because if God can use somebody like you, coming from a country 00:22:23.70\00:22:27.10 like Cuba, where you had no future, where you had no hope, maybe. what could God do 00:22:27.10\00:22:32.56 with me? 00:22:32.56\00:22:33.66 " BILL: Yes. 00:22:33.66\00:22:35.00 JAIME: And so that is the aim. 00:22:35.00\00:22:36.23 BILL: How can someone get that, very quickly? 00:22:36.23\00:22:37.70 JAIME: Visiting our website, jaimejorge.com. 00:22:37.70\00:22:39.96 BILL: And we'll make sure that there's a link on our website, 00:22:39.96\00:22:42.03 itiswrittencanada.ca for that. 00:22:42.03\00:22:43.40 JAIME: Thank you. 00:22:43.40\00:22:44.90 BILL: We want to get to the second song that you taped 00:22:44.90\00:22:47.10 earlier and which one will that be? 00:22:47.10\00:22:48.06 JAIME: A mighty fortress is our God. 00:22:48.06\00:22:49.66 Bill: Let's listen to that Jaime. 00:22:49.66\00:22:51.26 (Violin music) 00:22:58.36\00:25:35.90 BILL: If you enjoyed today's interview with Jaime and would 00:26:12.36\00:26:14.63 like to receive a free DVD of this interview, you can request one from It Is Written. 00:26:14.63\00:26:19.26 It is our gift to you. 00:26:19.26\00:26:21.10 Here is the information you need to get your copy. 00:26:21.10\00:26:25.96 Here is the information you need to get your copy. 00:26:25.96\00:26:26.56 BILL: Well, that's the end of the program. 00:27:25.70\00:27:27.13 It goes by fast, doesn't it? 00:27:27.13\00:27:28.26 JAIME: Man, it sure does. 00:27:28.26\00:27:29.50 BILL: Thank you for agreeing to join us again next week. 00:27:29.50\00:27:32.56 JAIME: You betcha. 00:27:32.56\00:27:33.86 It's an honour. 00:27:33.86\00:27:34.63 BILL: Thank you for watching. 00:27:34.63\00:27:36.66 I want to let you know that on November the 8th, that's Friday, 00:27:36.66\00:27:39.70 November the 8th, I will be conducting a Bible seminar at the Windsor Seventh-Day 00:27:39.70\00:27:44.23 Adventist Church, 00:27:44.23\00:27:45.90 If you're in the area, why don't you come and join us? 00:27:45.90\00:27:48.56 Visit our website for the address. 00:27:48.56\00:27:50.06 If you're not in the area and can't join us, don't worry, go 00:27:50.06\00:27:54.56 to our website, itiswrittencanada.ca. 00:27:54.56\00:27:57.00 Click the "watch live" tab and you will be able to watch that 00:27:57.00\00:28:01.60 seminar from anywhere in the world on any mobile device. 00:28:01.60\00:28:06.73 I hope you will join us. 00:28:06.73\00:28:08.13 On the website, we will also have a link to Jaime's website 00:28:08.13\00:28:12.13 where you can acquire his DVDs and his CDs and this special 25th anniversary DVD that 00:28:12.13\00:28:19.53 I know you will just love. 00:28:19.53\00:28:21.56 Well, our plan and our prayer is that we come back together next 00:28:21.56\00:28:26.33 week.
