00:02 >>Bill: Near the end of his life, Jean-Paul Sartre
00:03 told Pierre Victor: "I do not feel that I am the 00:06 product of chance, a speck of dust in the universe, 00:11 but someone who was expected, prepared, 00:12 prefigured. In short, a being whom only a Creator 00:17 could put here; and this idea of a creating hand 00:22 refers to God. His long-time companion and 00:22 fellow philosopher Simone de Beauvoir, reacted 00:28 "How should one explain the senile act of a 00:34 turncoat?" 00:49 (MUSIC) 00:53 >>ANNOUNCER: IT HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME . . . 00:54 GOD'S BOOK, THE BIBLE. 00:56 STILL RELEVANT IN TODAY'S COMPLEX WORLD. 00:59 IT IS WRITTEN . . 01:00 . SHARING MESSAGES OF HOPE AROUND THE WORLD. 01:06 (MUSIC) 01:20 We are continuing with our study of the creation week 01:21 in Genesis 1: 14 - 19 we read . 02:16 Evolution has struggled to explain all the 02:17 bodies that exist in the universe, how they could 02:20 have evolved out of spontaneous generation, 02:24 all the trips to the moon, all the satellites sent 02:25 into space, all of the orbiting paraphernalia 02:29 have given absolutely no insight into how the 02:34 universe, the bodies in the universe could have 02:35 possibly evolved. And that's understandable, 02:41 since they didn't. Here in our text it simply says 02:47 God made them all and when it says that God made the 02:48 stars along with the sun and the moon, it 02:53 is saying something about His immense power. If you 02:58 remember from Physics class light travels at 02:59 a 186 thousand miles a second. Now 03:05 that translates into six trillion miles in a year. 03:09 At this rate it has to travel 32 thousand years 03:10 before it will reach the center of our galaxy, 03:15 that's at six trillion miles a year. But wait, it 03:22 still has another 50 thousand years to get 03:23 to the other side of the Milky Way, and when it 03:27 does it will leave behind about one hundred billion 03:32 stars. Now remember that the Milky Way Galaxy 03:33 is only an average sized galaxy. And that as far 03:39 as we know, there are at least 50 billion galaxies 03:43 in the known universe. 03:43 Much of this has been determined by the use of 03:49 the Hubble telescopic cameras. 03:50 Psalms 8: 3 says . 04:10 We have only seen the work of God's fingers - what 04:11 an awesome God! Genesis explains all of that by 04:16 saying this, "He made the stars." The question is 04:25 often asked, "How can such distant light reach the 04:26 earth so fast in a six-day creation? If it takes a 04:32 little light beam hundreds of thousands of years to 04:37 get out there, doesn't it take hundreds of thousands 04:38 of years for the light to reach us?" Dr. Edmond 04:41 Holroyd is a research physical scientist for the 04:46 U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Denver, 04:47 Colorado. He holds a Ph.D. 04:51 in atmospheric science from the University of New 04:52 York at Albany - he says . 06:46 George Wald former Professor of Biology at 06:47 Harvard University - Nobel Laureate, wrote . 07:40 He would say that the entire universe, billions 07:41 upon billions of galaxies, is the product 07:45 of irrational, random, spontaneous generation, 07:50 something coming into existence out of nothing 07:51 There is a wonderful parallel here. On day one 07:58 He created light. On day four He created the lights 08:03 that become the means by which light is 08:04 transmitted. On day two He created the water below 08:09 and f matching up with that on day five He 08:13 created the fish for that water. On day two He also 08:14 created the heavens above, and on day five He created 08:19 the birds to fly in that heaven. On day three He 08:22 created the land and the plants and trees, and on 08:24 day six paralleling that, He created man and land 08:29 animals, would live on those plants and live on 08:34 the dry land. So there's a wonderful parallel. We 08:35 come then to day four. If you go back to verse 3 for 08:41 just a second you'll read, 08:56 People always say, "Well you can't have light 08:57 shining all over the place without any stars, without 09:02 any sun, without any moon because the light that we 09:06 know comes from those sources. And they say if 09:07 there wasn't any sun there couldn't be any plants on 09:11 day three. How could God create plants on day three 09:15 and a sun on day four? 09:16 Photosynthesis which is critical to the life of 09:20 plants doesn't exist apart from the sun. And so this 09:21 doesn't make any sense." 09:24 There was light already on day one. And where there 09:25 is light there is heat. 09:30 And where there is light and heat there 09:31 is photosynthesis. The requisite conditions for 09:36 plant life to survive on day three were already in 09:39 existence because light was already there doing 09:41 what light always does. It just hadn't been 09:46 specifically attached to these stellar bodies. It 09:52 is evident to all of us, should be evident, that 09:53 stars and the sun are not the creators of light, God 09:57 is the creator of light. 09:57 He happens to use them as radiating bearers of light 10:04 that was already there before them and without 10:08 them. I believe God took the light He had already 10:09 created and attached it to the luminaries He made 10:18 on day four. John Calvin, great Reformer, wrote in 10:25 his commentary on Genesis this brief statement: 10:42 Now as similar in the other descriptions of 10:43 creation days, the work is now repeated and further 10:44 defined. Look at verse 16, "And God made the two 10:50 great lights." He's now defining these lights. 10:51 "The greater light to govern the day, and the 10:57 lesser light to govern the night, He made the stars 11:01 also." The two great lights being the sun and 11:02 the moon. Look at the greater light to govern 11:07 the day. Down in verse 18, "To govern the day," 11:12 that's the sun's function. 11:13 The sun being the most dominant governing the 11:19 day. The lesser light, verse 16, would be the 11:20 moon and it governs the night in the same way the 11:25 sun governs the day. Its function is to cast its 11:30 light over the night. 11:31 He made the stars also. 11:32 That's it. What else can be said? The economy of 11:37 words here is staggering Some interesting evidence 11:46 comes from the study of the sun. Dr. Danny 11:47 Faulkner is professor of astronomy and physics at 11:51 the University of South Carolina at Lancaster. He 11:56 holds a Ph.D. in astronomy from Indiana University. 11:57 Here is what he says . 14:04 The Psalmist had it right - The heavens are telling 14:06 of the glory of God; and their expanse 14:10 is declaring the work of His hands. (Psalm 19: 1) 14:19 And I love how it always signs off as in verse 19, 14:20 "And there was evening and there was morning, a 14:24 fourth day," just in case somebody might not get it, 14:31 this all happened in a 24-hour period. Verse 14:32 5, day one, "There was evening, there was 14:39 morning, one day." Verse 8, "There was evening, 14:47 there was morning, a second day." Verse 13, 14:48 "There was evening, there was morning, a third day." 14:50 We just read verse 19, verse 23, the same thing, 14:55 "There was evening, there was morning, a fifth day." 14:56 And verse 31, "There was evening, there was 15:01 morning, the sixth day." 15:01 And then chapter 2 verse 1 and 2, 15:22 Look at the 8th Psalm: "O LORD, our Lord, how 15:23 majestic is Your name in all the earth, who have 15:27 displayed Your splendor above the heavens! From 15:32 the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have 15:33 established strength because of Your 15:38 adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful 15:42 cease. When I consider Your heavens, the work of 15:43 Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have 15:47 ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, 15:52 and the son of man that You care for him? Yet You 15:53 have made him a little lower than God, and You 16:00 crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to 16:05 rule over the works of Your hands; You have put 16:06 all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and 16:11 also the beasts of the field, the birds of the 16:15 heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes 16:16 through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our 16:20 Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!" 16:27 That was what God was after in creation. God 16:28 gave us the account of creation so we would 16:33 praise Him such as is done in Psalm 8. O Lord, our 16:40 Lord...he begins the same as he ends...how majestic 16:41 is Thy name in all the earth. That's the right 16:45 response to Genesis 1. 16:45 Not to question it. Not to argue, and not to debate 16:54 it. But to fall on your face and cry with the 16:59 psalmist, "How majestic is Your name, 16:59 O Lord, our Lord. 17:11 For AS HIGH AS THE HEAVEN'S ARE 17:12 ABOVE THE EARTH 17:19 SO GREAT IS HIS MERCY TO ME 17:27 AND AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST 17:35 SO FAR ARE MY SINS FROM ME 17:44 GREAT IS THE LORD 17:48 HIS MERCY ENDURES FOREVER, FOREVER 18:00 GREAT IS THE LORD 18:04 HIS MERCY ENDURES FOREVER, FOREVER 18:32 FOR AS HIGH AS THE HEAVEN'S ARE 18:33 ABOVE THE EARTH 18:40 SO GREAT IS HIS MERCY TO ME 18:49 AND AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST 18:57 SO FAR ARE MY SINS FROM ME 19:06 GREAT IS THE LORD 19:09 HIS MERCY ENDURES FOREVER, FOREVER 19:22 GREAT IS THE LORD 19:25 HIS MERCY ENDRES FOREVER, FOREVER 19:38 GREAT IS THE LORD 19:42 HIS MERCY ENDURES FOREVER, FOREVER 19:54 GREAT IS THE LORD 20:00 HIS MERCEY ENDURES FOREVER, FOREVER 20:17 FOREVER. 20:33 >>BILL: LET US PRAY. 20:33 HEAVENLY FATHER, HOW MAJESTIC IS YOUR NAME. I 20:36 PRAY FOR EACH AND EVERY PERSON WITHIN THE REACH 20:37 OF MY VOICE AT THIS MOMENT THAT IF THEY HAVE NOT 20:42 COME TO KNOW YOU, AND YOUR GOODNESS, MAY YOU REVEAL 20:49 YOURSELF TO THEM AT THIS VERY MOMENT, IN JESUS 20:50 NAME WE PRAY, AMEN. 21:02 (MUSIC) (MUSIC) 21:45 >>BEV: HI, EVERYONE! I'V GOT MY APRON ON, SO YOU 21:46 KNOW WE'RE COOKING TODAY. 21:49 YOU'LL WANT TO HAVE YOUR PEN AND PAPER HANDY TO 21:50 WRITE DOWN THE INGREDIENTS FOR A SCRUMPTIOUS RAW 21:53 APPLE & PEAR PIE. I'VE ADAPTED THIS RECIPE FROM 21:57 ONE I FOUND ON THE HALLELUJAH ACRES WEBSITE 21:58 YOU'VE HEARD THE OLD SAYING, "AN APPLE A DAY 22:02 KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY. 22:02 I'M SURE THERE'S GOOD TRUTH TO THAT. DID YOU 22:07 KNOW THERE ARE OVER 7,500 VARIETIES OF APPLES? AND, 22:11 OVER 3,000 VARIETIES OF PEARS? SO, IF YOU USUALLY 22:12 PURCHASE ONLY ONE VARIETY OF APPLES OR PEARS, IT'S 22:16 TIME TO BRANCH OUT AND TRY SOMETHING NEW! FIRST, TO 22:21 MAKE THE CRUST FOR THIS RAW DELIGHT, IN A FOOD 22:22 PROCESSOR SIMPLY PROCESS 1/2 CUP OF DATES AND 2 22:27 CUPS OF WALNUTS (BE SURE TO SOAK THE WALNUTS FOR 22:32 AROUND 6 HOURS - THIS HELPS TO MAKE THEM MORE 22:33 DIGESTIBLE). REALLY EASY. 22:38 YOU WANT THE MIXTURE TO BE JUST A LITTLE BIT MOIST, 22:39 SO IT HOLDS TOGETHER WELL. 22:46 NOT WET, JUST A TINY BIT MOIST, SO ADD A FEW 22:47 TEASPOONS OF WATER, IF NEEDED. THEN, PRESS THE 22:51 MIXTURE INTO A 9-INCH PIE PAN. THE WALNUTS ARE A 22:57 HIGHLY NUTRITIOUS SOURCE OF OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS, 22:58 COPPER, VITAMIN E, AND MORE. DATES ARE A NATURAL 23:03 SWEETENER. FOR THE FRUIT FILLING, YOU'LL NEED: 2 23:07 APPLES, CORED AND QUARTERED, BUT UNPEELED 23:08 (I'M USING 1 GALA AND 1 GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLE). 2 23:14 BOSC PEARS, CORED AND CUT IN LARGE CHUNKS, AND AGAIN 23:19 UNPEELED. 1 VERY RIPE BANANA TO BIND EVERYTHING 23:20 TOGETHER. 3/4 CUP OF GOLDEN RAISINS, TO SWEETEN 23:25 OUR DESSERT (AND THEY'VE BEEN SOAKED IN WARM 23:30 FILTERED WATER TO SOFTEN THEM). 2 TABLESPOONS 23:31 GROUND FLAX SEEDS (FLAX IS A GREAT SOURCE OF OMEGA 3 23:36 FATTY ACIDS). THE JUICE OF 1 MEDIUM-SIZED LEMON, TO 23:40 KEEP THE FRUIT FROM TURNING BROWN, AND 2 23:41 TEASPOONS CARDAMOM POWDER, TO ADD A UNIQUE FLAVOUR 23:46 IN THE FOOD PROCESSOR, PROCESS THE BANANA, 23:53 RAISINS, GROUND FLAX SEEDS, ONE TEASPOON OF THE 23:54 CARDAMOM POWDER, AND HALF THE APPLES AND PEARS UNTIL 23:59 SMOOTH; NOT PUREED, BUT SMOOTH. ADD THE REMAINING 24:04 APPLES AND PEARS, THE LEMON JUICE, AND THE OTHER 24:05 ONE TEASPOON OF CARDAMOM POWDER. PROCESS/PULSE 24:09 UNTIL YOU HAVE A MEDIUM-CHUNKY CONSISTENCY. 24:14 PUT INTO THE PIE CRUST, DECORATE WITH WALNUT 24:15 HALVES, CHILL & SERVE. OH, AND ONE LAST THING, ENJOY! 24:20 FRIENDS I'VE SERVED THIS PIE TO ABSOLUTELY LOVED 24:24 THE FRESH, RAW GOODNESS OF IT. THIS DESSERT IS SO 24:25 DELICIOUSLY GOOD FOR YOU. 24:49 IT'S ALL NATURAL, THERE'S NO BAKING OR COOKING, AND 24:50 NO NUTRIENTS LOST. IT'S A WIN-WIN SITUATION! 25:00 I'LL SEE YOU NEXT TIME! 25:10 >>DAN: THE GENEOLOGY OF OUR RACE AS GIVEN BY 25:11 INSPIRATION TRACES BACK IT'S ORIGIN NOT TO A 25:14 LINE OF DEVELOPING GERMS, MOLUSKS AND QUADRAPEDS BUT 25:21 TO THE GREAT CREATOR.
