00:01:24.61\00:01:27.42 Primarily, better health is God's idea, 00:01:27.45\00:01:31.85 and your physical health is connected 00:01:31.89\00:01:33.49 to your spiritual health. 00:01:33.52\00:01:35.29 God's wish is that you "prosper in all things and be in health," 00:01:35.32\00:01:39.69 according to 3 John, verse 2. 00:01:39.73\00:01:41.53 You want to thrive spiritually. 00:01:41.56\00:01:44.00 You want to thrive physically, as far as you're able. 00:01:44.03\00:01:46.47 In the Bible, "Daniel purposed in his heart 00:01:46.50\00:01:48.64 "that he would not defile himself 00:01:48.67\00:01:50.24 "with the portion of the king's delicacies, 00:01:50.27\00:01:52.37 nor with the wine which he drank." 00:01:52.41\00:01:54.88 When the king's unclean and unhealthy food 00:01:54.91\00:01:57.71 and his fermented wine were served, Daniel refused them. 00:01:57.75\00:02:01.92 And after 10 days of honoring God in his diet, 00:02:01.95\00:02:05.05 Daniel and his friends were visibly healthier 00:02:05.09\00:02:07.72 than the rest of the young men. 00:02:07.76\00:02:09.59 As a result, Daniel was blessed with spiritual wisdom 00:02:09.62\00:02:12.86 and insight, and he wrote one of the most consequential books 00:02:12.89\00:02:16.20 in the entire Bible. 00:02:16.23\00:02:18.13 Paul wrote that "your body is the temple 00:02:18.17\00:02:20.64 "of the Holy Spirit..., and [that] you are not your own? 00:02:20.67\00:02:23.97 "For you were bought at a price; 00:02:24.01\00:02:25.71 "therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, 00:02:25.74\00:02:29.81 which are God's." 00:02:29.84\00:02:31.31 So, this matters. 00:02:31.35\00:02:32.75 Now, consider that global health statistics 00:02:32.78\00:02:35.52 make for scary reading and this becomes important for survival. 00:02:35.55\00:02:39.85 This is Dr. James Elsey, professor of surgery 00:02:39.89\00:02:42.79 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, 00:02:42.82\00:02:46.16 writing for the American College of Surgeons: 00:02:46.19\00:02:49.03 "Currently the US, compared to similar Western countries, 00:02:49.06\00:02:52.80 "has the lowest life expectancy at birth, 00:02:52.83\00:02:55.60 "highest reported maternal and infant mortality, 00:02:55.64\00:02:58.94 "highest hospitalization rate from preventable causes, 00:02:58.97\00:03:02.38 "highest death rate for avoidable 00:03:02.41\00:03:04.41 "and treatable conditions, highest suicide rate, 00:03:04.45\00:03:07.82 and highest chronic disease burden rate in the world." 00:03:07.85\00:03:12.15 He also says health care in the U.S. "has evolved 00:03:12.19\00:03:15.09 "into a highly corporatized system controlled 00:03:15.12\00:03:18.06 "by a decreasing number 00:03:18.09\00:03:19.53 "of increasingly powerful conglomerates 00:03:19.56\00:03:22.36 "where profit is often the main metric 00:03:22.40\00:03:25.10 of performance and success." 00:03:25.13\00:03:27.54 And that isn't going to change. 00:03:27.57\00:03:29.90 Health care in the U.S. is a for-profit industry, 00:03:29.94\00:03:32.87 which is good in some ways, not so good in others. 00:03:32.91\00:03:36.48 The primary responsibility of a for-profit enterprise 00:03:36.51\00:03:39.41 is...profitability. 00:03:39.45\00:03:41.65 If you need surgery or if you've been in an accident 00:03:41.68\00:03:44.12 and you need someone to put you back together, 00:03:44.15\00:03:46.02 you can't beat the U.S. health care system. 00:03:46.05\00:03:49.42 But if you actually want to get well and stay well, 00:03:49.46\00:03:53.63 you really have to take matters into your own hands 00:03:53.66\00:03:55.90 and start making decisions that will benefit you. 00:03:55.93\00:03:59.47 Now, when you start to talk about better health 00:03:59.50\00:04:01.37 on a budget, there are a couple of places 00:04:01.40\00:04:03.10 your mind might predictably go. 00:04:03.14\00:04:05.31 If you want to pay less for food, 00:04:05.34\00:04:07.18 you might want to buy in bulk. 00:04:07.21\00:04:08.78 But for many people, buying in bulk 00:04:08.81\00:04:10.38 simply isn't really an option. 00:04:10.41\00:04:12.41 Not everyone has enough money to buy 48 of everything. 00:04:12.45\00:04:15.52 And not everyone has the space to store 48 cans of beans 00:04:15.55\00:04:18.55 or 25 pounds of rice. 00:04:18.59\00:04:20.62 Buying in bulk is a good idea, but it isn't practical for all. 00:04:20.66\00:04:24.23 But we'll put that on our list with an asterisk. 00:04:24.26\00:04:27.36 You could buy generic. 00:04:27.40\00:04:28.53 Store brands can be cheaper, and the quality is the same. 00:04:28.56\00:04:32.03 Supermarket X doesn't have its own factory making pasta sauce. 00:04:32.07\00:04:36.17 It's made by one of the big manufacturers and relabeled. 00:04:36.20\00:04:39.07 So you're getting regular quality, 00:04:39.11\00:04:41.48 and it isn't costing you so much. So that's good. 00:04:41.51\00:04:44.08 We'll put that on our list without an asterisk. 00:04:44.11\00:04:46.98 But at the end of the day 00:04:47.02\00:04:48.42 you've saved $14 on your grocery bill. 00:04:48.45\00:04:51.39 And while that's something, 00:04:51.42\00:04:52.99 it isn't changing a whole lot about your situation. 00:04:53.02\00:04:56.52 You could shop around for health insurance. 00:04:56.56\00:04:58.59 But it's all expensive. 00:04:58.63\00:04:59.79 So it's a bit like saving $10 on a designer handbag, 00:04:59.83\00:05:02.73 still costing you a ton. 00:05:02.76\00:05:05.03 Medication is expensive. 00:05:05.07\00:05:07.40 Trips to the doctor can be expensive. 00:05:07.44\00:05:10.47 An unexpected visit to the emergency room 00:05:10.51\00:05:12.87 or an urgent care clinic can break the bank, 00:05:12.91\00:05:16.21 especially given that one in four Americans 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.68 have less than $1,000 in savings. 00:05:18.71\00:05:22.45 What's better is to not need the medication 00:05:22.48\00:05:26.02 or the visit to the doctor. 00:05:26.05\00:05:27.52 Of course, that's not always possible 00:05:27.56\00:05:29.89 for a variety of reasons. 00:05:29.92\00:05:31.13 Sometimes things just happen. 00:05:31.16\00:05:34.20 But what if you could keep them from happening? 00:05:34.23\00:05:36.67 The good news is, in many instances, you can. 00:05:36.70\00:05:40.80 I'm going to come at this 00:05:40.84\00:05:41.70 from a couple of different directions. 00:05:41.74\00:05:43.34 If we're looking at better health on a budget, 00:05:43.37\00:05:45.81 then we want to know, 00:05:45.84\00:05:46.94 A, how to experience better health, 00:05:46.98\00:05:49.78 and, B, how to positively impact our budget, 00:05:49.81\00:05:53.52 free up resources that we can invest in our health. 00:05:53.55\00:05:58.29 Right now in California, venture capitalist Bryan Johnson 00:05:58.32\00:06:02.29 is trying to live forever. 00:06:02.32\00:06:04.86 He's following a regimen that can only be described 00:06:04.89\00:06:07.46 as remarkable or extreme. 00:06:07.50\00:06:10.97 Mr. Johnson is taking dozens of supplement pills a day. 00:06:11.00\00:06:13.80 One report said 54; some reports say 100. 00:06:13.84\00:06:17.51 He eats a very carefully curated diet 00:06:17.54\00:06:20.58 and is being assisted by a team of 30 doctors 00:06:20.61\00:06:23.21 and regenerative experts. 00:06:23.24\00:06:25.28 It's all costing him two million dollars a year. 00:06:25.31\00:06:29.12 The results he's achieving are mind boggling, really. 00:06:29.15\00:06:32.29 According to doctors, Mr. Johnson, 00:06:32.32\00:06:34.99 while in his late 40s, "has the heart of a 37-year-old, 00:06:35.02\00:06:39.06 "the skin of a 28-year-old and the lung capacity 00:06:39.09\00:06:42.30 and fitness of an 18-year-old." 00:06:42.33\00:06:44.50 Whereas normal aging is measured at 1.0, 00:06:44.53\00:06:47.60 Mr. Johnson is aging at .64, 00:06:47.64\00:06:51.61 meaning that every year he ages only seven and a half months. 00:06:51.64\00:06:56.44 But improving your health doesn't have to be 00:06:56.48\00:06:58.41 that complex or expensive. 00:06:58.45\00:07:00.12 You and me? We're never going to be able to do 00:07:00.15\00:07:02.28 all that Bryan Johnson is doing. 00:07:02.32\00:07:03.69 And, of course, he's not going to live forever. 00:07:03.72\00:07:06.89 But he is proving something very important. 00:07:06.92\00:07:10.89 If you do certain things, and if you don't do certain things, 00:07:10.93\00:07:15.63 you do better. 00:07:15.66\00:07:17.17 You can radically impact your health. 00:07:17.20\00:07:20.80 So, what can you do that won't break the bank and that 00:07:21.80\00:07:23.94 will almost certainly improve your health significantly? 00:07:23.97\00:07:27.31 Now, to be clear, I'm not making promises. 00:07:27.34\00:07:29.71 I hope you'll do your own research and speak 00:07:29.74\00:07:31.71 with your doctor, but here's what we know. 00:07:31.75\00:07:34.22 The system, as it currently is, has failed us. 00:07:34.25\00:07:37.69 The foods we eat in the U.S. 00:07:37.72\00:07:39.09 are filled with preservatives, dyes, and chemicals 00:07:39.12\00:07:41.59 which many other countries have banned. 00:07:41.62\00:07:44.66 There was a controversy for years 00:07:44.69\00:07:46.39 about a food coloring known as Red #3. 00:07:46.43\00:07:49.30 In 1990--in 1990!--it was banned 00:07:49.33\00:07:54.30 for use in the United States 00:07:54.34\00:07:55.84 in topical drugs and cosmetics after the FDA determined 00:07:55.87\00:08:00.11 the dye caused cancer when eaten by animals. 00:08:00.14\00:08:03.78 But for more than 30 years after that, it was allowed 00:08:03.81\00:08:08.15 in foods, supplements, and oral drugs. 00:08:08.18\00:08:11.62 And even the ban on Red 3 allowed manufacturers to use it 00:08:11.65\00:08:14.46 for two more years. 00:08:14.49\00:08:15.69 Bottom line, it was known for years that Red 3 is harmful, 00:08:15.72\00:08:19.66 but nothing was done to take it out of the food supply. 00:08:19.69\00:08:23.16 Another one: 00:08:23.20\00:08:24.23 There's a huge debate about glyphosate in food, 00:08:24.27\00:08:27.24 with people claiming it's linked to cancer 00:08:27.27\00:08:29.80 and other disastrous outcomes. 00:08:29.84\00:08:32.27 A chemical, glyphosate is the active ingredient 00:08:32.31\00:08:34.78 in the world's most widely used weed killer. 00:08:34.81\00:08:38.38 While it can no longer be used by home gardeners, 00:08:38.41\00:08:41.18 largely due to a massive amount of lawsuits, 00:08:41.22\00:08:44.02 farmers can still use it. 00:08:44.05\00:08:46.05 In other words, glyphosate still gets sprayed on plants, 00:08:46.09\00:08:50.66 which become the food you eat. 00:08:50.69\00:08:53.23 The challenge is, of course, proving glyphosate is harmful. 00:08:53.26\00:08:56.43 You just can't do tests in which you expose people 00:08:56.46\00:08:59.13 to a potential carcinogen. 00:08:59.17\00:09:01.07 One big challenge with all of this 00:09:01.10\00:09:02.57 is that "much of the epidemiological data we do have 00:09:02.60\00:09:06.78 "comes directly from scientists employed 00:09:06.81\00:09:10.21 by the companies producing herbicides." 00:09:10.25\00:09:13.15 How do you spell "conflict of interest"? 00:09:13.18\00:09:16.02 Pesticides are sprayed about with enthusiasm, 00:09:16.05\00:09:19.69 and the potential for that to negatively impact humans 00:09:19.72\00:09:22.16 is obviously huge. It's hard to imagine that it doesn't. 00:09:22.19\00:09:26.63 It reminds me of what happened with cigarettes. 00:09:26.66\00:09:28.53 Years ago doctors would recommend them. 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.80 Then we learned they were killing us, and yet 00:09:30.83\00:09:32.67 big tobacco maintained cigarettes were not harmful. 00:09:32.70\00:09:35.30 So if tobacco companies maintained that 00:09:35.34\00:09:37.11 their harmful product wasn't harmful, 00:09:37.14\00:09:40.54 you think the same could be happening today 00:09:40.58\00:09:42.21 with other products? 00:09:42.24\00:09:43.88 Add to that, drug companies often run their own tests 00:09:43.91\00:09:47.88 to determine whether or not their drugs are safe. 00:09:47.92\00:09:51.95 So what can you expect the results of those tests to be? 00:09:51.99\00:09:55.22 And today, we eat food that's so highly processed 00:09:55.26\00:09:58.43 it barely even resembles food. 00:09:58.46\00:10:00.43 The system is failing us. 00:10:00.46\00:10:03.30 When I was growing up, autism was unheard of. 00:10:03.33\00:10:06.23 In the year 2000, one in 150 U.S. kids had autism. 00:10:06.27\00:10:11.71 Today, it's one in 31. 00:10:11.74\00:10:14.61 In California, it's close to one in 20. 00:10:14.64\00:10:18.98 That's catastrophic! 00:10:19.01\00:10:21.35 While no one will tell you the cause, 00:10:21.38\00:10:23.42 it's impossible to imagine that the soup of chemicals and dyes, 00:10:23.45\00:10:29.22 and highly processed items that are barely food, 00:10:29.26\00:10:32.93 and drugs and medications and all of that 00:10:32.96\00:10:35.36 can't have anything to do with it. 00:10:35.40\00:10:38.00 Add to that, we are more sedentary than ever before. 00:10:38.03\00:10:40.97 People are glued to their devices. 00:10:41.00\00:10:42.87 Fewer kids are raised where they have room to run and play. 00:10:42.90\00:10:47.21 We're caught in a trap of our own making, 00:10:47.24\00:10:49.48 and if you live like everyone else lives, 00:10:49.51\00:10:51.95 you're going to die like everyone else dies. 00:10:51.98\00:10:55.12 But ya don't have to. 00:10:55.15\00:10:57.32 Now, a couple of things-- 00:10:57.35\00:10:58.59 one, yes, some people find it hard to make changes. 00:10:58.62\00:11:01.76 Yes, that's true. 00:11:01.79\00:11:03.06 But not making changes is not really an option. 00:11:03.09\00:11:06.13 And I'm not against people enjoying junk food 00:11:06.16\00:11:08.86 or snack food. Move. Walk. 00:12:52.57\00:12:55.30 If you can't, you can't. I understand. 00:12:55.34\00:12:57.24 But most of us can, and yet most who can do not. 00:12:57.27\00:13:01.84 A doctor friend of mine advises his patients to add 00:13:01.88\00:13:04.31 a 45-minute brisk walk to their daily schedule. 00:13:04.35\00:13:08.12 If you need to take breaks at first, do that. 00:13:08.15\00:13:10.29 If you need to go slow, do that. 00:13:10.32\00:13:12.39 But he says, "Aim to get to 45 minutes 00:13:12.42\00:13:15.36 of continual walking a day." 00:13:15.39\00:13:17.36 Again, this might not be easy for everyone. 00:13:17.39\00:13:20.23 But if you can do it, do it. 00:13:20.26\00:13:21.90 And I'm telling you, get exercising 00:13:21.93\00:13:23.67 and it's hard to quit. You'll end up loving it. 00:13:23.70\00:13:27.54 Walking is free, and it's one of the best things 00:13:27.57\00:13:30.81 you can do for your health. 00:13:30.84\00:13:32.07 Or run or bike or whatever it is that you like to do. 00:13:32.11\00:13:36.18 What did we learn earlier about the body? 00:13:36.21\00:13:38.51 The Bible says it is "the temple of the Holy Spirit." 00:13:38.55\00:13:42.42 There's another thing that doesn't have to cost you money, 00:13:43.42\00:13:45.39 and that is...lose weight. 00:13:45.42\00:13:48.12 Unless you're in a tiny minority, you can. 00:13:48.16\00:13:51.93 Move more, eat less, and eat less junk. 00:13:51.96\00:13:56.06 It might not be that simple for everyone, 00:13:56.10\00:13:58.53 but it is for almost everyone. 00:13:58.57\00:14:00.90 And if you don't eat after 6:00 p.m., 00:14:00.94\00:14:04.11 you'll make it even easier on yourself. 00:14:04.14\00:14:06.81 Eating late causes extra calories to be stored as fat 00:14:06.84\00:14:10.61 while you sleep instead of being burned throughout the day. 00:14:10.65\00:14:14.75 Making that change might take some getting used to, 00:14:14.78\00:14:16.75 but at the very least, 00:14:16.79\00:14:18.12 try to eat less at night and don't eat late. 00:14:18.15\00:14:20.66 It's just hard on your body. 00:14:20.69\00:14:22.82 Here's something most people don't want to hear. 00:14:22.86\00:14:24.76 Better health on a budget? Are you ready? 00:14:24.79\00:14:27.66 Don't eat between meals. Just don't. You don't need to. 00:14:27.66\00:14:32.30 Eat a real breakfast and don't eat again until lunch. 00:14:32.33\00:14:36.30 No candy bars, no bags of chips. 00:14:36.34\00:14:38.77 Just cutting out that midmorning sugary snack 00:14:38.81\00:14:41.88 will do wonders for you. 00:14:41.91\00:14:43.85 If you ate breakfast at 7:00, 00:14:43.88\00:14:45.55 you're not hungry at 9:00 or even 10:00. 00:14:45.58\00:14:48.65 What you think is hunger is just the digestion process 00:14:48.68\00:14:52.09 doing its thing. 00:14:52.12\00:14:53.32 Drink some water, and you'll be fine. 00:14:53.36\00:14:56.12 Eat real food at lunch, and you won't need to eat 00:14:56.16\00:14:59.59 until you get home. And trust me, 00:14:59.63\00:15:02.56 it might take some getting used to, but you'll get used to this. 00:15:02.60\00:15:06.20 And think of the money you'll save and, therefore, have 00:15:06.23\00:15:10.04 to invest in your health. 00:15:10.07\00:15:12.37 Cut out soda--entirely. 00:15:12.41\00:15:15.98 That will cost you nothing, cutting it out. 00:15:16.01\00:15:18.08 Drink water. Oh, you really can. 00:15:18.11\00:15:20.15 Drink all the water you want. 00:15:20.18\00:15:21.98 And there's no point drinking expensive water. It's all H20. 00:15:22.02\00:15:26.25 Drink it out of your tap if it tastes okay. 00:15:26.29\00:15:28.72 Filter it if you want to. 00:15:28.76\00:15:30.66 Soda is liquid sugar. 00:15:30.69\00:15:33.23 It's catastrophically bad for you. 00:15:33.26\00:15:36.30 You can drink in just one can of soda 00:15:36.33\00:15:38.47 close to 10 teaspoons of sugar. 00:15:38.50\00:15:41.80 And some people will drink two, three, four cans of soda a day-- 00:15:41.84\00:15:45.71 or more. That might be 40 teaspoons or more of sugar 00:15:45.74\00:15:51.71 in one day, just from soda. 00:15:51.75\00:15:54.45 And if you're drinking bigger sodas, 00:15:54.48\00:15:57.22 you're getting even more sugar. 00:15:57.25\00:16:00.16 Then there's the sugar you get from food. 00:16:00.19\00:16:03.32 It seems it's in everything. 00:16:03.36\00:16:05.69 Sugar is in applesauce. 00:16:05.73\00:16:07.73 Sugar is in peanut butter often. 00:16:07.76\00:16:10.37 Why? But you knew that already. 00:17:01.35\00:17:05.12 Okay, so you don't like water, you don't want to quit alcohol, 00:17:05.15\00:17:09.12 you don't want to adjust your eating schedule, 00:17:09.16\00:17:10.99 you love M&Ms too much to even cut back, 00:17:11.03\00:17:14.10 and you don't want to exercise. 00:17:14.10\00:17:16.70 Well, it sounds like what you do want is to take 00:17:16.73\00:17:19.40 blood pressure medication and diabetes medication 00:17:19.43\00:17:22.07 and heart meds and go to your own funeral at 66 instead of 86. 00:17:22.10\00:17:27.38 I've been told, "But I don't want to live forever." 00:17:27.41\00:17:30.71 Oh, yes, you do. 00:17:30.75\00:17:31.95 You most certainly don't want to die early. It isn't fun. 00:17:31.98\00:17:34.85 You're robbing God, you're robbing yourself, 00:17:34.88\00:17:37.22 and you're robbing those that love you. 00:17:37.25\00:17:39.15 Now, here's another one: sleep. 00:17:39.19\00:17:41.86 Getting enough sleep is vital to good health. 00:17:41.89\00:17:46.16 And it doesn't cost you a cent. 00:17:46.19\00:17:48.26 You'll have more energy. You'll be happier. 00:17:48.30\00:17:51.30 You'll fight depression. 00:17:51.33\00:17:53.07 And it even makes it easier to keep weight off. 00:17:53.10\00:17:55.64 The science is indisputable. 00:17:55.67\00:17:57.97 Get good sleep and you'll thrive. 00:17:58.01\00:18:01.54 Now, I know that in a country that has a love affair 00:18:01.58\00:18:03.78 with caffeine, this might not be easy to hear. 00:18:03.81\00:18:07.98 But what people won't tell you 00:18:08.02\00:18:09.08 is that caffeine causes cerebral vasoconstriction-- 00:18:09.12\00:18:12.82 that is, the veins in your brain narrow. 00:18:12.85\00:18:16.96 You don't want that. 00:18:16.99\00:18:18.39 Chronic coffee drinking increases the risk 00:18:18.43\00:18:21.23 of cardiac arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. 00:18:21.26\00:18:25.80 Caffeine isn't good for you. 00:18:25.83\00:18:28.80 And don't give me, "I'd die without my coffee." 00:18:28.84\00:18:31.71 You really won't. 00:18:31.74\00:18:33.07 And you can do this because God is able. 00:18:33.11\00:18:35.78 Philippians 4:13, 00:18:35.81\00:18:37.31 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." 00:18:37.35\00:18:41.45 All things. 00:18:41.48\00:18:42.85 Philippians 1, verse 6: 00:18:42.88\00:18:44.32 "He who has begun a good work in you 00:18:44.35\00:18:46.02 will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." 00:18:46.05\00:18:49.89 God will do in you the things that need to get done. 00:18:49.92\00:18:54.93 So there's the better health: 00:18:54.96\00:18:57.50 Cut out caffeine, get exercise, get sleep, get exercise, 00:18:57.53\00:19:00.74 cut down on sugar, get exercise, 00:19:00.77\00:19:02.87 cut out alcohol--none of this costs you anything-- 00:19:02.90\00:19:05.87 quit drinking soda or sugary beverages, 00:19:05.91\00:19:08.08 don't eat between meals, don't eat late, 00:19:08.11\00:19:10.45 drink water-- did I mention get exercise?-- 00:19:10.48\00:19:13.28 and there's more that I could have said. 00:19:13.31\00:19:14.62 Eat more whole foods. 00:19:14.65\00:19:16.58 Eat more grains, more vegetables. 00:19:16.62\00:19:18.69 Many people just don't eat vegetables. 00:19:18.72\00:19:23.02 And if you eat too much fried food, cut back. 00:19:23.06\00:19:26.49 You might find out that you can cut it out altogether. 00:19:26.53\00:19:29.70 So, better health. 00:19:29.73\00:19:32.87 But what about better health on a budget? 00:19:32.90\00:19:36.87 Okay. First, it's important to look at your overall budget. 00:19:36.91\00:19:42.04 Sometimes you need to invest in your health, 00:19:42.08\00:19:44.55 and you can't do that if you don't have the money. 00:19:44.58\00:19:46.78 For example, you commit to sleeping more 00:19:46.82\00:19:49.02 to bless your health, but you have a lousy bed. 00:19:49.05\00:19:52.12 You want to be able to afford a new bed. 00:19:52.15\00:19:54.62 But maybe the resources aren't there. 00:19:54.66\00:19:57.16 Let's think that through. 00:19:57.19\00:19:58.63 Financial expert Dave Ramsey had a caller on his radio show 00:19:58.66\00:20:02.23 who shocked even Mr. Ramsey. 00:20:02.26\00:20:06.10 Even though the man was unemployed, 00:20:06.13\00:20:07.70 he bought a $64,000 car 00:20:07.74\00:20:11.01 and was making payments of $1,200 a month. 00:20:11.04\00:20:14.18 And he's $94,000 in debt. 00:20:14.21\00:20:18.01 No. No. You just don't do that. 00:20:18.05\00:20:20.72 Buy a bicycle. Walk. Buy a $3,000 vehicle. 00:20:20.75\00:20:26.62 Unemployed and spending $64,000 on a car? 00:20:26.65\00:20:31.59 What that means is if you want to buy vitamins, 00:20:31.63\00:20:33.43 or you need to pay for a visit to the doctor, 00:20:33.46\00:20:35.20 or you want to eat better quality food, 00:20:35.23\00:20:36.77 which may cost you a little more, 00:20:36.80\00:20:38.73 you can't afford to. 00:20:38.77\00:20:40.24 You can buy a whole lot of healthy food for $64,000. 00:20:40.27\00:20:45.07 The idea is cut unnecessary spending. 00:20:45.11\00:20:50.15 Stay out of financial trouble and free up more money 00:20:50.18\00:20:54.62 that you can invest in your health. 00:20:54.65\00:20:56.58 Don't make unnecessary car payments 00:20:56.62\00:20:58.99 and you can afford that bed, 00:20:59.02\00:21:01.36 and you'll sleep better, and your health will improve. 00:21:01.39\00:21:06.59 Now, this is practical. 00:21:06.63\00:21:08.86 If you're concerned about your budget, eat out less. 00:21:08.90\00:21:14.04 You go to your local Chinese place or whatever 00:21:14.07\00:21:16.67 and you're getting General Tso something-or-other 00:21:16.71\00:21:19.14 or, or sweet-and-sour this or that, and what's it costing you? 00:21:19.17\00:21:22.64 Twelve dollars, $15, maybe more. 00:21:22.68\00:21:25.81 Do that four times a week and you're spending $60 on lunch; 00:21:25.85\00:21:31.42 that's $3,000 a year. 00:21:31.45\00:21:34.99 Let's add to that the coffee you buy. 00:21:35.02\00:21:37.23 What is that? Five dollars a day?
