¤[Theme music]¤ 00:01:30.05\00:01:40.10 ¤[Theme music]¤ 00:01:40.10\00:01:47.24 >>John Bradshaw: This is It Is Written. 00:01:50.17\00:01:51.87 I'm John Bradshaw. Thanks for joining me. 00:01:51.91\00:01:54.98 When you open the Bible, 00:01:55.01\00:01:56.18 you come face to face with some stark realities. 00:01:56.21\00:01:59.41 The Bible says this in Romans 6 and verse 23. 00:01:59.45\00:02:02.92 It says, “The wages of sin is death,” 00:02:02.95\00:02:07.66 which tells us that sin is a killer. 00:02:07.69\00:02:11.93 It doesn't always look like a killer. 00:02:11.96\00:02:13.86 Sometimes it might look like your best friend. 00:02:13.90\00:02:16.43 But ultimately, sin is deadly. 00:02:16.46\00:02:20.14 Now, my guest today is Dr. David DeRose 00:02:20.17\00:02:22.24 from CompassHealth Consulting, 00:02:22.27\00:02:24.17 and we're going to talk about a silent killer. 00:02:24.21\00:02:27.04 Dr. DeRose, thanks for joining me today. 00:02:27.08\00:02:28.88 >>Dr. DeRose: Great to be with you, John. 00:02:28.91\00:02:29.94 >>John: It's good to have you back. 00:02:29.98\00:02:31.15 Today there's a silent killer we're going to discuss, 00:02:31.18\00:02:33.35 and you talk about it in your new book, 00:02:33.38\00:02:35.18 “30 Days to Natural Blood Pressure Control.” 00:02:35.22\00:02:38.02 High Blood Pressure. 00:02:38.05\00:02:39.32 So here's my question: 00:02:39.35\00:02:40.79 We're here to talk about the Bible, 00:02:40.82\00:02:42.06 but on a Bible program we're talking about 00:02:42.09\00:02:43.76 high blood pressure, 00:02:43.79\00:02:45.16 a health concern, 00:02:45.19\00:02:46.19 a killer. 00:02:46.23\00:02:47.23 Why would we be talking about that on a spiritual, 00:02:47.30\00:02:50.60 biblically based television program? 00:02:50.63\00:02:52.90 >>Dr. DeRose: You know, John, if it just killed people, 00:02:52.93\00:02:54.77 if it just took their life, that might be one thing. 00:02:54.80\00:02:57.44 But high blood pressure not only robs of quality of life; 00:02:57.47\00:03:00.91 it can impair our central computer, our frontal lobe. 00:03:00.94\00:03:05.28 And as a result, the way the Holy Spirit 00:03:05.31\00:03:07.38 communicates with us is through our brain. 00:03:07.42\00:03:09.85 So if we're not taking care of that brain, 00:03:09.88\00:03:11.79 if it's being pounded with high blood pressure, 00:03:11.82\00:03:13.69 if we have a stroke, 00:03:13.72\00:03:14.89 if we have dementia contributed to by high blood pressure, 00:03:14.92\00:03:18.73 we are going to suffer in our spiritual life as well. 00:03:18.76\00:03:21.56 >>John: I'm reminded too, the Bible says that our body 00:03:21.60\00:03:24.27 “is the temple of the Holy Spirit.” 00:03:24.30\00:03:26.07 We should be concerned from a spiritual point of view 00:03:26.10\00:03:29.90 about how we take care of the body temple, correct? 00:03:29.94\00:03:32.67 >>Dr. DeRose: Most definitely. 00:03:32.71\00:03:33.78 The other fascinating thing about the Holy Spirit 00:03:33.81\00:03:36.31 is the Holy Spirit gives us those fruits of the spirit. 00:03:36.34\00:03:39.75 And we actually show in the book how those very fruits, 00:03:39.78\00:03:42.58 also embodied in Jesus' beatitude, 00:03:42.62\00:03:45.59 those things like kindness and joy, 00:03:45.62\00:03:48.22 those things actually keep our blood pressure low. 00:03:48.26\00:03:51.13 So these things are intimately connected: 00:03:51.16\00:03:53.03 spirituality and physical health. 00:03:53.06\00:03:55.26 >>John: Today we're going to discover how 00:03:55.30\00:03:56.73 you can keep your blood pressure low; 00:03:56.77\00:03:59.30 if you have high blood pressure, 00:03:59.33\00:04:01.50 how you can lower that blood pressure. 00:04:01.54\00:04:03.27 How you can avoid getting high blood pressure. 00:04:03.30\00:04:05.51 In addition to that, a number of things very practical 00:04:05.54\00:04:09.28 that will be a blessing to you, to your life, and if not you, 00:04:09.31\00:04:12.78 then somebody you know who really needs this information. 00:04:12.81\00:04:16.05 Okay, what's, what's blood pressure? 00:04:16.08\00:04:18.69 >>Dr. DeRose: You know, it's surprising that many people, 00:04:18.72\00:04:20.89 even with high blood pressure, John, don't know what it is. 00:04:20.92\00:04:24.13 Blood pressure is simply the pressure 00:04:24.16\00:04:25.96 that's in your blood vessels. 00:04:25.99\00:04:27.56 So every time your heart pumps, 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.00 and the heart pumps roughly, just to make it simple, 00:04:30.03\00:04:32.43 about once every second, that would be 60 beats a minute, 00:04:32.47\00:04:35.60 many people a little bit faster than that. 00:04:35.64\00:04:37.51 But the heart pumps, 00:04:37.54\00:04:38.94 it generates a surge of pressure into the arteries, 00:04:38.97\00:04:42.08 that highest pressure that is reached is called the systolic. 00:04:42.11\00:04:46.01 That's that upper number in the blood pressure. 00:04:46.05\00:04:48.75 Then the heart relaxes, 00:04:48.78\00:04:50.82 and when the heart relaxes, fully relaxes, 00:04:50.85\00:04:53.32 the lowest pressure in your blood pressure 00:04:53.36\00:04:55.89 is called the diastolic pressure. 00:04:55.92\00:04:57.99 And so we'll come up with something like 00:04:58.03\00:04:59.59 120 for the systolic, when the heart is pumping, 00:04:59.63\00:05:02.80 over 80, the lower number, the diastolic, 00:05:02.83\00:05:05.63 when the heart is resting. 00:05:05.67\00:05:06.90 >>John: What's a good blood pressure for someone to have? 00:05:06.94\00:05:09.47 >>Dr. DeRose: You know, this is a million-dollar question. 00:05:09.50\00:05:11.61 Physicians are still debating what that magic number is. 00:05:11.64\00:05:15.64 But let me tell you, we'll cut right through all, 00:05:15.68\00:05:17.48 through all the confusion. 00:05:17.51\00:05:19.35 In the book we show data, 00:05:19.38\00:05:21.75 sound data that shows if you're not on medication, 00:05:21.78\00:05:25.62 getting your blood pressure at least as low as 110 systolic 00:05:25.65\00:05:29.36 and 75 diastolic is optimal. 00:05:29.39\00:05:32.79 If you're not on medication. 00:05:32.83\00:05:34.20 >>John: Okay. So you mentioned medication. 00:05:34.20\00:05:36.36 Medication is one way to lower undesirably high blood pressure, 00:05:36.40\00:05:41.64 correct? 00:05:41.67\00:05:42.30 >>Dr. DeRose: Correct. 00:05:42.34\00:05:42.97 >>John: Okay. 00:05:43.00\00:05:44.07 Is that medication effective usually, or ineffective? 00:05:44.11\00:05:47.21 >>Dr. DeRose: Well, it's an interesting question. 00:05:47.24\00:05:48.61 The medications themselves typically are effective. 00:05:48.64\00:05:51.51 But what we're finding as we look at the research is, 00:05:51.55\00:05:53.95 if you follow people for just a year, many of them, 00:05:53.98\00:05:57.65 with some of the blood pressure drugs, 00:05:57.69\00:05:59.45 only one out of four people 00:05:59.49\00:06:01.12 keep taking that drug for a full year. 00:06:01.16\00:06:03.43 >>John: Well, why would people stop? 00:06:03.46\00:06:04.76 >>Dr. DeRose: Because of the side effects. 00:06:04.79\00:06:06.19 >>John: Okay. What are some of the side effects? 00:06:06.23\00:06:08.63 >>Dr. DeRose: Some common side effects 00:06:08.66\00:06:10.00 of common blood pressure drugs: 00:06:10.03\00:06:11.60 frequent urination, cough, chronic cough, 00:06:11.63\00:06:16.64 decreased energy level, 00:06:16.67\00:06:19.31 decreased sexual performance, 00:06:19.34\00:06:21.91 depression. 00:06:21.94\00:06:23.85 I mean, the list is a staggering one, and people are impacted. 00:06:23.88\00:06:28.08 I've seen patients who've gone, before coming to my office, 00:06:28.12\00:06:31.02 gone to one drug after another after another, because, 00:06:31.05\00:06:34.96 hey, I felt fine, Doctor. 00:06:34.99\00:06:37.36 But then they told me I had high blood pressure, 00:06:37.39\00:06:39.19 and now I'm having all these side effects from the drugs. 00:06:39.23\00:06:43.13 >>John: So, then, we want to be able to get our blood pressure 00:06:43.16\00:06:45.53 under control, keep it under control. 00:06:45.57\00:06:48.10 And I think anyone would agree, I really do, 00:06:48.14\00:06:50.61 I don't think this is alarmist or anti-medicine. 00:06:50.64\00:06:54.58 You're not anti-medicine, are you? 00:06:54.61\00:06:55.91 >>Dr. DeRose: Oh, most definitely not. 00:06:55.94\00:06:57.18 >>John: Okay, I don't think it's anti-medicine to say, 00:06:57.21\00:06:59.05 let's try to live without medications 00:06:59.08\00:07:02.58 that you don't need to take. 00:07:02.62\00:07:04.49 First, it makes good financial sense. 00:07:04.52\00:07:06.65 It has to make good physical sense. 00:07:06.69\00:07:08.49 And if you can avoid, uh, undesirable side effects, 00:07:08.52\00:07:12.36 you're just a whole lot better off. 00:07:12.39\00:07:13.70 So, let's drill down. 00:07:13.73\00:07:16.03 How do we get our blood pressure down if it's up too high? 00:07:16.06\00:07:18.43 >>Dr. DeRose: Well, sometimes the first step is medication, 00:07:18.47\00:07:21.17 just to pick up on your last comment. 00:07:21.20\00:07:23.04 If your pressure is 220 over 120, you know, look it. 00:07:23.07\00:07:26.34 I don't care what you do in this book, 00:07:26.37\00:07:27.88 it's not going to get your pressure down 00:07:27.91\00:07:29.24 to 110 over 70 in a day. 00:07:29.28\00:07:31.55 And when you're running those 220 over 120 numbers, 00:07:31.58\00:07:34.52 you are bombarding your body, and you're at risk for a stroke. 00:07:34.55\00:07:37.65 >>John: Okay, let me ask this. 00:07:37.69\00:07:38.69 I asked a question that I'm now putting on hold. 00:07:38.72\00:07:41.12 Uh, what are the dangers of high blood pressure? 00:07:41.16\00:07:45.49 >>Dr. DeRose: Well, the dangers, 00:07:45.53\00:07:46.53 one that I've mentioned several times is stroke. 00:07:46.56\00:07:48.66 And stroke is not just a killer. 00:07:48.70\00:07:50.70 It's a crippler. 00:07:50.73\00:07:52.03 And, uh, and not just as a crippler, 00:07:52.07\00:07:53.84 but can impair our cognitive abilities. 00:07:53.87\00:07:56.71 Then there's heart attack. 00:07:56.74\00:07:58.04 There's kidney failure. 00:07:58.07\00:07:59.27 There is blindness. 00:07:59.31\00:08:01.01 There is bulging of the blood vessels that can rupture; 00:08:01.04\00:08:03.55 we call it aneurisms. 00:08:03.58\00:08:04.95 All of these are on this list. 00:08:04.98\00:08:06.45 And dementia is on the list as well. 00:08:06.48\00:08:08.72 >>John: Most people, I think, would say, 00:08:08.75\00:08:10.49 oh, that will never happen to me. 00:08:10.52\00:08:12.75 >>Dr. DeRose: Of course. And then it happens. 00:08:12.79\00:08:15.56 And then it's too late. 00:08:15.59\00:08:16.93 So the whole message is, 00:08:16.96\00:08:18.03 you've got to be serious about this silent killer. 00:08:18.06\00:08:20.56 >>John: This is something really where you need 00:08:20.60\00:08:22.13 to be a little proactive, correct? 00:08:22.16\00:08:23.83 >>Dr. DeRose: Most definitely. 00:08:23.87\00:08:24.77 And here's the shocking thing, John. 00:08:24.80\00:08:26.37 Even if a person does not have blood pressure today, 00:08:26.40\00:08:28.77 in the prime of life, in their fifties, early sixties, 00:08:28.80\00:08:31.24 no high blood pressure, 00:08:31.27\00:08:32.41 the data indicates that if you live into your eighties, 00:08:32.44\00:08:35.31 ninety percent of people in those younger years 00:08:35.34\00:08:39.31 will develop high blood pressure. 00:08:39.35\00:08:41.48 We've all got to be concerned about it. 00:08:41.52\00:08:43.45 >>John: Okay. 00:12:05.42\00:12:09.42 >>Dr. DeRose: One of the things that is often neglected 00:12:09.46\00:12:11.69 in our environment is a kind of twins: 00:12:11.73\00:12:15.16 rest and stress management. 00:12:15.20\00:12:17.73 We devote separate sections in the book to both of these. 00:12:17.77\00:12:20.67 But we find today, especially as we talk about this interface 00:12:20.70\00:12:24.01 between spirituality and physical health, 00:12:24.04\00:12:27.44 that many people are either cutting themselves short 00:12:27.48\00:12:29.94 on rest or they're becoming overly stressed. 00:12:29.98\00:12:32.98 And it's amazing to me, from those dual perspectives 00:12:33.01\00:12:36.28 of minister and physician, 00:12:36.32\00:12:37.92 to realize the Bible has strategies, 00:12:37.95\00:12:40.29 both Jesus offering his rest, 00:12:40.32\00:12:42.89 Jesus offering us stress management. 00:12:42.92\00:12:44.79 “My peace I give to you; my peace I leave with you.” 00:12:44.83\00:12:47.40 So these beautiful biblical truths actually interface 00:12:47.46\00:12:51.27 with an optimal approach to high blood pressure. 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.60 >>John: How much rest should a person be getting? 00:12:53.64\00:12:55.50 >>Dr. DeRose: If you look at the statistics, 00:12:55.54\00:12:56.94 the average person does best 00:12:56.97\00:12:58.41 with about eight hours of sleep a night. 00:12:58.44\00:13:00.28 >>John: And the average person is getting about 00:13:00.31\00:13:02.11 how many hours of sleep? 00:13:02.14\00:13:03.14 >>Dr. DeRose: It's less than that. 00:13:03.18\00:13:04.48 And unfortunately, many of us think because we can 00:13:04.51\00:13:07.02 drive ourselves, we don't need that much rest. 00:13:07.05\00:13:10.22 I was under that delusion for a period of time in my life, John. 00:13:10.25\00:13:13.49 And the interesting thing, if you're driving yourself, 00:13:13.52\00:13:16.02 even if you're not using caffeine, and let's face it, 00:13:16.06\00:13:18.46 most people that are pushing themselves 00:13:18.49\00:13:19.93 are resorting to the caffeine, 00:13:19.96\00:13:21.46 the way those things work 00:13:21.50\00:13:22.83 is they ramp up the stress hormones, 00:13:22.86\00:13:24.90 which ramps up the blood pressure. 00:13:24.93\00:13:28.30 >>John: Energy drinks have really pushed caffeine out 00:13:28.34\00:13:30.74 onto the front line now. 00:13:30.77\00:13:32.07 Do people know the dangers inherent in using those things, 00:13:32.11\00:13:34.88 do you think? 00:13:34.91\00:13:35.98 >>Dr. DeRose: It's obvious to me they don't. 00:13:36.01\00:13:36.88 Caffeine is a pressor. 00:13:36.91\00:13:38.45 That means it does raise blood pressure. 00:13:38.48\00:13:40.58 It makes the blood more sticky. 00:13:40.62\00:13:42.48 It actually does a host of things 00:13:42.52\00:13:45.12 that really are undesirable. 00:13:45.15\00:13:46.59 But it raises vigilance, 00:13:46.62\00:13:49.59 especially if you're fatigued. 00:13:49.62\00:13:51.76 But it's at a price. 00:13:51.79\00:13:52.76 It's not really giving you energy; 00:13:52.79\00:13:54.20 it's just whipping the body. 00:13:54.23\00:13:55.33 >>John: So people press themselves. 00:13:55.36\00:13:56.97 Maybe they use caffeine. 00:13:57.00\00:13:58.20 They go, go, go. 00:13:58.23\00:13:59.43 I read recently about someone who says, 00:13:59.47\00:14:01.14 “I get by on four hours of sleep a night.” 00:14:01.17\00:14:03.07 There's a price to pay for that, though, isn't there? 00:14:03.10\00:14:04.81 >>Dr. DeRose: Most definitely. 00:14:04.84\00:14:06.07 And I can guarantee you, that person cutting themselves short 00:14:06.11\00:14:08.41 on sleep is worsening how insulin works in the body, 00:14:08.44\00:14:11.58 raising stress hormone levels, and raising blood pressure, 00:14:11.61\00:14:14.52 whether or not they have full-blown hypertension 00:14:14.55\00:14:16.99 today or not. 00:14:17.02\00:14:18.09 >>John: Hmm. Okay, so what do you say to somebody 00:14:18.12\00:14:22.02 who's not getting enough rest? 00:14:22.06\00:14:23.29 You say, get more rest, but they don't. 00:14:23.32\00:14:25.33 Simple question: how does somebody get more rest? 00:14:27.30\00:14:29.90 >>Dr. DeRose: Well, there's a lot of strategies. 00:14:29.93\00:14:31.20 We actually go through a whole chapter in the book 00:14:31.23\00:14:33.00 dealing with this. 00:14:33.03\00:14:34.04 One of the simple strategies that not everyone 00:14:34.07\00:14:36.20 is ready for yet, 00:14:36.24\00:14:37.91 but it's actually called throwing away the alarm clock. 00:14:37.94\00:14:40.91 And if you do that, it puts a little burden on you 00:14:40.94\00:14:43.98 to get to bed early enough that you can wake up in time. 00:14:44.01\00:14:48.32 >>John: Yeah, I don't think everybody's ready for that. 00:14:48.35\00:14:50.05 What's something everybody's ready for? 00:14:50.09\00:14:51.45 >>Dr. DeRose: If you're not ready to get rid 00:14:51.49\00:14:52.89 of the alarm clock, 00:14:52.92\00:14:54.09 at least start dialing back the time when you go to bed, 00:14:54.12\00:14:57.89 and taking time to wind down. 00:14:57.93\00:15:00.16 Biblical study, watching “It Is Written.” 00:15:00.20\00:15:02.76 Some great things you can do before going to bed. 00:15:02.80\00:15:04.70 >>John: Amen. I could agree with that. 00:15:04.73\00:15:06.43 Okay, so rest is important in lowering blood pressure. 00:15:06.47\00:15:08.94 Get more rest. 00:15:08.97\00:15:11.34 That's something everyone can do. 00:15:11.37\00:15:14.44 What else? 00:15:14.48\00:15:15.74 >>Dr. DeRose: Well, let's talk a little bit more about 00:15:15.78\00:15:17.21 the stress side of the equation. 00:15:17.25\00:15:19.91 The analogy we use in the book to try to make it 00:15:19.95\00:15:22.22 a little bit more graphic, I mean, 00:15:22.25\00:15:23.55 stress often seems a bit nebulous. 00:15:23.59\00:15:25.49 So we say, imagine walking into your bedroom 00:15:25.52\00:15:28.46 and finding a ravenous lion waiting for you. 00:15:28.49\00:15:31.76 >>John: That would be stressful. 00:15:31.79\00:15:33.29 >>Dr. DeRose: What do you do if there's a lion in the bedroom? 00:15:33.33\00:15:36.06 You can ignore it. 00:15:36.10\00:15:37.57 You can run from it. 00:15:37.60\00:15:38.63 You can fight it. 00:15:38.67\00:15:39.90 And we use this as an analogy for how we deal with stressors. 00:15:39.93\00:15:43.07 Some stressors we do need to eliminate. 00:15:43.10\00:15:45.67 >>John: Is it, is it easy to know which ones, 00:15:45.71\00:15:47.64 do you think? 00:15:47.68\00:15:48.88 >>Dr. DeRose: You know, this is where spiritual discernment 00:15:48.91\00:15:50.28 comes in, John. 00:15:50.31\00:15:51.45 You know, a lot of people underestimate 00:15:51.48\00:15:53.18 how important prayer is. 00:15:53.21\00:15:54.78 One of the routine things I do in my medical practice 00:15:54.82\00:15:58.02 is pray with patients, if they're receptive to that. 00:15:58.05\00:16:01.19 Because I believe that God can guide 00:16:01.22\00:16:03.59 us in making these important decisions. 00:16:03.63\00:16:05.73 >>John: All right. Okay, so get a little more rest. 00:16:05.76\00:16:09.60 Eliminate stressors out of your life. 00:16:09.63\00:16:12.80 Okay. Those are fairly straightforward 00:16:12.83\00:16:16.30 things that a person can do. 00:16:16.34\00:16:17.44 Let's keep on going down through the list 00:16:17.47\00:16:19.41 of things that people can do to lower their blood pressure 00:16:19.44\00:16:22.48 and therefore lower their risk 00:16:22.51\00:16:24.05 of some catastrophic health event. 00:16:24.08\00:16:26.51 >>Dr. DeRose: Let's talk about one that many people, 00:16:26.55\00:16:28.78 their eyes kind of gloss over when we speak about this. 00:16:28.82\00:16:31.12 We say, refraining from pressors. 00:16:31.15\00:16:34.59 A lot of people say, well, what is a pressor? 00:16:34.62\00:16:36.96 It's something that raises blood pressure. 00:16:36.99\00:16:38.66 >>John: And they would be drugs such as: 00:16:38.69\00:16:40.23 >>Dr. DeRose: They'd be drugs like Advil, like Nutren, 00:16:40.26\00:16:43.06 like Motrin, ibuprofen, Naprosyn, 00:16:43.10\00:16:46.50 these common pain-relieving medications, 00:16:46.53\00:16:49.00 many of them available over the counter. 00:16:49.04\00:16:51.94 These drugs actually can raise blood pressure in some people 00:16:51.97\00:16:54.88 as much as 10 or 15 points. 00:16:54.91\00:16:57.05 >>John: Do you have to consume a lot of that medication 00:16:57.08\00:16:59.45 in order to get, see the blood pressure spike? 00:24:26.46\00:24:29.36 >>Dr. DeRose: Actually, if you look at the research, 00:24:29.40\00:24:30.87 research shows that when we fellowship 00:24:30.90\00:24:32.80 with others in church community, we have less hospitalizations. 00:24:32.83\00:24:37.71 We're hospitalized for a shorter duration if we end in the, 00:24:37.74\00:24:40.48 up in the hospital. 00:24:40.51\00:24:41.58 We live longer. 00:24:41.61\00:24:42.98 Our blood pressure tends to be lower. 00:24:43.01\00:24:44.75 And it's not just that corporate worship. 00:24:44.78\00:24:47.42 It's also our intrinsic spirituality: 00:24:47.45\00:24:50.19 taking time for prayer, taking time for a devotional life. 00:24:50.22\00:24:53.89 In fact, some of the research suggests that 00:24:53.92\00:24:56.19 private relationship with our Creator is the most powerful. 00:24:56.22\00:25:01.13 >>John: When you think of high blood pressure, 00:25:01.16\00:25:03.87 well, that word says it all: 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.47 pressure. 00:25:05.50\00:25:06.30 If you have high blood pressure, 00:25:06.33\00:25:07.64 it seems to me you're under pressure somewhere, 00:25:07.67\00:25:10.17 or your body's under pressure. 00:25:10.21\00:25:12.01 And the Bible is all about 00:25:12.04\00:25:13.88 coming into a relationship with God and having that, 00:25:13.91\00:25:17.51 that pressure take away, taken away, or that pressure borne, 00:25:17.55\00:25:21.15 carried, by Jesus. 00:25:21.18\00:25:22.72 What does he say? 00:25:22.75\00:25:23.89 “Come to me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, 00:25:23.92\00:25:26.22 and I will give you rest.” 00:25:26.25\00:25:29.32 In the Ten Commandments, 00:25:29.36\00:25:30.43 the fourth commandment deals with Sabbath rest, 00:25:30.46\00:25:33.09 something many people have forgotten about or neglected. 00:25:33.13\00:25:36.36 There's something about a relationship with Jesus 00:25:36.40\00:25:38.77 that is designed to see our stressors roll away. 00:25:38.80\00:25:44.14 Jesus came that he would give us life, John 10, verse 10, 00:25:44.17\00:25:47.81 and “give it more abundantly.” 00:25:47.84\00:25:50.81 So you've seen both sides of this, 00:25:50.85\00:25:52.25 as a minister of the gospel and as a physician. 00:25:52.28\00:25:54.72 Faith in Christ ultimately, 00:25:54.75\00:25:56.52 if entered into with both eyes open, 00:25:56.55\00:25:59.69 is the prescription for a healthy life in this world 00:25:59.72\00:26:02.72 and in the world to come. 00:26:02.76\00:26:03.59 >>Dr. DeRose: There's no question. 00:26:03.63\00:26:04.79 It's so powerful. And you mentioned the Sabbath. 00:26:04.83\00:26:06.73 We have actually research in the book from the Ansons in Israel, 00:26:06.76\00:26:10.10 actually showing that the Sabbath 00:26:10.13\00:26:11.77 has health-giving benefits. 00:26:11.80\00:26:13.67 >>John: There is life in Jesus Christ. 00:26:13.70\00:26:15.80 God made us. 00:26:15.84\00:26:16.94 The Bible says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. 00:26:16.97\00:26:20.71 And as you benefit physically, 00:26:20.74\00:26:23.85 you will benefit and thrive spiritually as well. 00:26:23.88\00:26:28.28 We only get one go-around on this planet. 00:26:28.32\00:26:30.99 I think it's just wisdom, isn't it, 00:26:31.02\00:26:32.69 to think about what you can do to get the most 00:26:32.72\00:26:34.86 out of your time here, not just in a self-centered way, 00:26:34.89\00:26:37.76 but the better you do, 00:26:37.79\00:26:38.79 the more service and the more faithful service 00:26:38.83\00:26:40.90 you can do to God and others also. 00:26:40.93\00:26:42.90 >>Dr. DeRose: You got it right on, John. 00:26:42.93\00:26:44.37 >>John: There you go. 00:26:44.40\00:26:45.60 Dr. David DeRose, thanks so very much for joining me today. 00:26:45.63\00:26:47.70 I appreciate it. 00:26:47.74\00:26:48.90 Your book, “30 Days to Natural Blood Pressure Control.” 00:26:48.94\00:26:51.31 It is magnificent. 00:26:51.34\00:26:53.07 I know this is going to be a successful book, 00:26:53.11\00:26:54.48 and the principles in here, 00:26:54.51\00:26:55.41 some of which we have shared today, 00:26:55.44\00:26:57.35 will be the difference between life and death for many. 00:26:57.38\00:27:01.45 Grab a hold of what God is sharing with you today, 00:27:01.48\00:27:04.32 and enjoy more life, 00:27:04.35\00:27:06.02 longer life, 00:27:06.05\00:27:06.69 a healthier life, 00:27:06.72\00:27:07.92 and rejoice more in your Friend and Savior, Jesus Christ.” 00:27:07.96\00:27:10.49 ¤[Music]¤ 00:27:10.53\00:27:18.20 >>John: So what do you do if you or somebody you care about 00:27:20.57\00:27:22.87 has high blood pressure?
