It grows in Asia - It's a 00:00:52.95\00:00:56.18 large fruit covered in dull spikes - not the prettiest 00:00:56.18\00:00:59.45 thing you'll ever see. I read where someone 00:00:59.45\00:01:01.86 described the durian as looking like something that 00:01:01.86\00:01:04.16 would dangle from a gladiator's chain. 00:01:04.16\00:01:07.36 The durian is probably best known for its smell - it 00:01:07.36\00:01:12.30 smells... how would you say? 00:01:12.30\00:01:15.54 Okay - there's no delicate way to say it. 00:01:15.54\00:01:17.54 The durian stinks! But if you can get past that 00:01:17.54\00:01:21.68 - and I did, I'm proud to say - you can love it. 00:01:21.68\00:01:24.75 And I do. Now if you don't like durian 00:01:24.75\00:01:27.15 then about the worst thing that can happen is that 00:01:27.15\00:01:29.32 you... don't like durian. 00:01:29.32\00:01:31.62 More for me. But there are some other 00:01:31.62\00:01:34.06 foods people in that are just plain hazardous. 00:01:34.06\00:01:38.19 Dangerous, even. In Japan there's a fish 00:01:38.19\00:01:42.40 that's popular in certain circles called "Fugu". 00:01:42.40\00:01:46.23 It's a pufferfish. Fugu means, literally, "river 00:01:46.23\00:01:50.17 pig" - and maybe for good reason. 00:01:50.17\00:01:53.41 Some say eating this fish is the culinary equivalent of 00:01:53.41\00:01:56.48 playing Russian roulette. Diners pay good money to eat 00:01:56.48\00:02:00.52 this fish, which, if prepared incorrectly, could kill them 00:02:00.52\00:02:05.19 owing to parts of the fish being toxic. 00:02:05.19\00:02:08.12 Fugu served as tempura of sashimi, or baked or added to 00:02:08.12\00:02:12.46 a glass of hot sake, is considered a treat by many. 00:02:12.46\00:02:17.23 Now in Tokyo food authorities are preparing to introduce 00:02:17.23\00:02:20.40 a change to regulations, allowing unlicensed 00:02:20.40\00:02:23.64 restaurants to serve fugu - a move that will make eating 00:02:23.64\00:02:27.08 the fish cheaper but which some chefs say could raise 00:02:27.08\00:02:31.08 the risk for diners. Now there is a safeguard. 00:02:31.08\00:02:34.08 Chefs that serve Fugu have to undertake special 00:02:34.08\00:02:36.55 training which takes about two years before they are able 00:02:36.55\00:02:40.16 to serve it. During this time they are 00:02:40.16\00:02:42.19 taught and then examined on how to remove the poisonous 00:02:42.19\00:02:44.86 parts of the fish. Only 35% of the candidates 00:02:44.86\00:02:49.06 pass the exam. Several people die every year 00:02:49.06\00:02:52.03 after attempting to prepare fugu at home. 00:02:52.03\00:02:55.47 The flesh is safe but other parts, including the liver, 00:02:55.47\00:02:58.74 heart, intestines and ovaries, contain tetrodotoxin, 00:02:58.74\00:03:03.01 which can kill you if it's ingested, even if you 00:03:03.01\00:03:07.58 ingest it in minute quantities. There were 23 deaths among 00:03:07.58\00:03:11.75 338 fugu-poisoning cases recorded in Japan from 00:03:11.75\00:03:16.26 the year 2000 to the year 2009. You're not going to catch me 00:03:16.26\00:03:21.00 eating anything poisonous and potentially lethal. 00:03:21.00\00:03:23.93 I'm guessing you'd probably say the same. 00:03:23.93\00:03:27.27 But what's interesting is that many of us are eating 00:03:27.27\00:03:30.97 foods every day that are potentially lethal. 00:03:30.97\00:03:36.88 Let me tell you about that. A friend of mine told me 00:03:36.88\00:03:39.78 about an article he read online. 00:03:39.78\00:03:41.92 It was in the 'health' section and the article was 00:03:41.92\00:03:43.92 about the dumbest things American eat. 00:03:43.92\00:03:48.62 Here's some of what the article talked about. 00:03:48.62\00:03:50.63 Here is what people eat. Deep fried donuts. 00:03:50.63\00:03:54.10 Not so surprising. Deep fried candy bars. 00:03:54.10\00:03:58.00 Turkey stuffed with a duck that has been stuffed with 00:03:58.00\00:04:04.34 a chicken. Deep fried bacon. 00:04:04.34\00:04:08.41 Squirt on cheese. Fried macaroni and cheese 00:04:08.41\00:04:12.98 balls Scrapple. Scrapple is described as 00:04:12.98\00:04:16.85 scraps of pork boiled with cornmeal and spices until 00:04:16.85\00:04:20.36 it's thick enough to form a loaf. 00:04:20.36\00:04:22.62 After congealing over night, slices of the loaf are fried 00:04:22.62\00:04:26.46 to order. I read about deep friend 00:04:26.46\00:04:29.20 cheese balls being served at a county fair somewhere. 00:04:29.20\00:04:33.74 Well these may bring a bit of a smile to our faces and we 00:04:33.74\00:04:36.37 may well be thinking that's just not quite normal. 00:04:36.37\00:04:40.51 But a restaurant in Las Vegas has attempted to take all 00:04:40.51\00:04:42.91 this to a whole new level. The restaurant is called the 00:04:42.91\00:04:46.15 Heart Attack Grill. There've been other locations 00:04:46.15\00:04:49.35 in the past in Arizona and Texas. 00:04:49.35\00:04:51.95 The management of the Heart Attack Grill has been quoted 00:04:51.95\00:04:53.96 as saying their intent is to serve food "so bad for you 00:04:53.96\00:04:57.43 it's shocking". Waitresses are dressed as 00:04:57.43\00:05:00.16 nurses and customers are referred to as patients. 00:05:00.16\00:05:03.53 Burgers have names like the "Quadruple Bypass" and can 00:05:03.53\00:05:06.90 contain as many as 8000 calories. 00:05:06.90\00:05:12.14 (8000 - the recommended daily calorie intake for men is 00:05:12.14\00:05:16.75 around 2500 and for women it's around 2000. 00:05:16.75\00:05:21.05 8000 is a LOT of calories! Not surprising this thing has 00:05:21.05\00:05:26.55 8000 calories seeing as it comes, with among other 00:05:26.55\00:05:29.16 things, 20 slices of bacon!) There are reduced versions of 00:05:29.16\00:05:34.20 that burger - such as the Single Bypass burger - that 00:05:34.20\00:05:36.87 contain far fewer calories. But still a lot! 00:05:36.87\00:05:41.87 The establishment's "Flat Liner Fries" are cooked 00:05:41.87\00:05:45.17 in pure lard, and soft drinks are made with real sugar. 00:05:45.17\00:05:49.18 And anyone who weighs over 350 pounds can eat for free. 00:05:49.18\00:05:55.58 "So bad for you it's shocking" is the claim made. 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.75 (Nodding...) While you might be surprised by people 00:05:58.75\00:06:03.96 wanting to eat food that is celebrated for being 00:06:03.96\00:06:06.49 unhealthy, and while the food we've just talked about isn't 00:06:06.49\00:06:09.43 your every day food and is a little over the top, 00:06:09.43\00:06:13.23 lots and lots of people eat food very similar to that 00:06:13.23\00:06:16.81 every day. Today - Health Matters. 00:07:51.47\00:07:54.90 It's fair to assume that a lot of the food that's 00:07:54.90\00:07:57.11 available to us today simply isn't good for us. 00:07:57.11\00:08:00.31 But where do we go to get the information that we need to 00:08:00.31\00:08:02.44 help us make the right decisions. 00:08:02.44\00:08:05.75 In Australia a professor called Bruce Neal, the senior 00:08:05.75\00:08:08.98 director of the George Institute for Global Health 00:08:08.98\00:08:12.29 has come out and said that diet and exercise campaigns 00:08:12.29\00:08:14.86 are so ineffective at preventing heart disease that 00:08:14.86\00:08:17.69 they should be abandoned and replaced with strict 00:08:17.69\00:08:21.10 regulation of salt levels in food combined with wider 00:08:21.10\00:08:24.17 medication use. Professor Neal is saying that 00:08:24.17\00:08:26.74 the government should stop having a hands off approach 00:08:26.74\00:08:30.14 and regulate the food industry to bring about 00:08:30.14\00:08:32.51 change. But then one doctor says this 00:08:32.51\00:08:35.44 and another doctor says that - and it usually is not bad 00:08:35.44\00:08:38.78 advice, usually - and in all of the confusion we are just 00:08:38.78\00:08:42.48 trying to do our best. Let me make a suggestion. 00:08:42.48\00:08:46.86 The Bible encourages us to go to God and seek his advice 00:08:46.86\00:08:51.09 about things that are happening in our lives. 00:08:51.09\00:08:53.66 Has God ever failed to give you good advice? 00:08:53.66\00:08:56.43 No he hasn't. Sometimes we say 'what would 00:08:56.43\00:08:59.60 Jesus do about this'? Well, what did Jesus eat when 00:08:59.60\00:09:03.74 he was upon this earth and better still what would 00:09:03.74\00:09:07.14 Jesus eat if he were upon the earth now? 00:09:07.14\00:09:10.85 Jesus was not raised in a wealthy family, which means 00:09:10.85\00:09:13.78 that as far as his diet went his family probably couldn't 00:09:13.78\00:09:17.55 afford too many extras - or too many expensive 00:09:17.55\00:09:21.32 alternatives. In society today, if you come 00:09:21.32\00:09:24.26 from a lower socio economic background you're more likely 00:09:24.26\00:09:26.93 to be sick, a smoker and/or a drinker and have 00:09:26.93\00:09:29.00 a poor diet. That's what the researchers 00:09:29.00\00:09:31.93 tell us. So when the government looks 00:09:31.93\00:09:34.07 at health issues they have to keep those things in mind. 00:09:34.07\00:09:36.64 Now Jesus wasn't weighed down by that kind of diet or 00:09:36.64\00:09:40.34 lifestyle. For thirty years Jesus had to 00:09:40.34\00:09:43.28 work hard in his fathers carpenter shop and no doubt 00:09:43.28\00:09:45.75 ate a fairly typical Mediterranean diet that was 00:09:45.75\00:09:48.35 wholesome, unprocessed and in line with the Jewish dietary 00:09:48.35\00:09:53.46 laws. He would have consumed little 00:09:53.46\00:09:55.89 saturated fat, only natural sugars, He would have got 00:09:55.89\00:09:59.69 plenty of sleep and lots of exercise. 00:09:59.69\00:10:02.63 Jesus would also have a heart full of love for his father 00:10:02.63\00:10:07.27 and have a concern for the needs of others. 00:10:07.27\00:10:10.44 And no doubt someone is tempted to say, "That's all 00:10:10.44\00:10:12.67 very well but I can't go back and live in Jesus time." 00:10:12.67\00:10:17.01 But the Word of God gives us guidelines for what we can 00:10:17.01\00:10:19.21 include in our busy modern lifestyles. 00:10:19.21\00:10:22.85 One thing I'm quite certain of: Jesus likely wouldn't 00:10:22.85\00:10:27.26 advise us to eat at the burger restaurant I talked 00:10:27.26\00:10:30.46 about a moment ago. I mentioned previously the 00:10:30.46\00:10:34.00 Jewish dietary laws just a second back. 00:10:34.00\00:10:36.87 These were laws that God gave to Israel to preserve their 00:10:36.87\00:10:39.57 health. The Hebrews had been slaves 00:10:39.57\00:10:41.87 in Egypt for several hundred years. 00:10:41.87\00:10:43.97 Yet even among that slave lifestyle they got to the 00:10:43.97\00:10:46.88 stage where they considered their food tolerable. 00:10:46.88\00:10:50.35 They later said this (you read it in Exodus 16), "Oh, 00:10:50.35\00:10:54.65 that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of 00:10:54.65\00:10:57.39 Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate 00:10:57.39\00:11:02.02 bread to the full! For you have brought us out 00:11:02.02\00:11:05.36 into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with 00:11:05.36\00:11:09.00 hunger." Exodus 16:3 But history 00:11:09.00\00:11:13.13 tells us that the Egyptians lifestyle wasn't too healthy. 00:11:13.13\00:11:17.87 The Egyptians suffered from every modern disease that we 00:11:17.87\00:11:20.44 suffer from today, except of course from modern diseases 00:11:20.44\00:11:23.01 such as AIDS. Heart disease, Cancer, 00:11:23.01\00:11:27.08 Cirrhosis of the liver, Gallstones, Kidney stones, 00:11:27.08\00:11:29.65 Gout, Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Pneumonia, 00:11:29.65\00:11:33.29 obesity - of course the depictions of Egyptians by 00:11:33.29\00:11:36.36 the artists of the time were quite flattering, but they 00:11:36.36\00:11:39.06 were some sick people. God knew that when the 00:11:39.06\00:11:42.50 children of Israel eventually settled in the land that he 00:11:42.50\00:11:45.37 had promised them they might be tempted to adopt an 00:11:45.37\00:11:48.77 Egyptian-style so he said this. 00:11:48.77\00:11:54.71 "You shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God 00:11:54.71\00:11:58.58 has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be 00:11:58.58\00:12:02.32 well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the 00:12:02.32\00:12:05.85 land which you shall possess." 00:12:05.85\00:12:08.76 Deuteronomy 5:33. God through Solomon advised 00:12:08.76\00:12:12.66 the people like this "My son, give attention to my words; 00:12:12.66\00:12:18.27 incline your ear to my sayings. 00:12:18.27\00:12:20.54 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the 00:12:20.54\00:12:23.04 midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find 00:12:23.04\00:12:26.68 them, And health to all their flesh." 00:12:26.68\00:12:30.21 Proverbs 4:20-22. Our present day knowledge has 00:12:30.21\00:12:33.38 been gathered in little over 100 years or so. 00:12:33.38\00:12:37.95 However there was an efficient public health 00:12:37.95\00:12:39.99 program in effect some 3000 years back and how sad that 00:12:39.99\00:12:45.13 it was lost sight of for centuries. 00:12:45.13\00:12:47.86 Moses the great Egyptian leader and then Hebrew leader 00:12:47.86\00:12:50.47 was the founder of preventive medicine. 00:12:50.47\00:12:53.40 The children of Israel lived in the desert for 40 years 00:12:53.40\00:12:56.77 and not one of them got sick. And the point for Christians 00:15:38.50\00:15:41.77 is that if you compromise your decision-making ability 00:15:41.77\00:15:45.64 - your moral-reasoning ability - you compromise your 00:15:45.64\00:15:49.38 ability to maintain an optimum connection with God. 00:15:49.38\00:15:54.28 It just makes sense. If you want your vehicle to 00:15:54.28\00:15:56.82 run right you make sure it gets the right fuel. 00:15:56.82\00:15:59.92 A farmer is going to make sure his or her farm animals 00:15:59.92\00:16:02.42 get the right food so those animals produce the best 00:16:02.42\00:16:05.33 results. Athletes follow careful diets 00:16:05.33\00:16:08.16 because they want the best possible outcome when they 00:16:08.16\00:16:10.30 compete. And here we are involved in 00:16:10.30\00:16:12.73 what Paul calls a battle against spiritual darkness... 00:16:12.73\00:16:16.54 Don't you think we need every advantage we can get? 00:16:16.54\00:16:19.17 Of course we do. Which is why God drew up the 00:16:19.17\00:16:22.81 menu in the Garden of Eden. It's why God provided the 00:16:22.81\00:16:25.61 food for the children of Israel when they were in the 00:16:25.61\00:16:27.82 wilderness. God knew that health matters. 00:16:27.82\00:16:32.29 Now I'ld like to show you a text from the book of 00:16:32.29\00:16:34.92 Proverbs. Does the wisest man who ever 00:16:34.92\00:16:37.39 lived give us good healthy living advice? 00:16:37.39\00:16:40.80 Yes he does. He talks about honey a number 00:16:40.80\00:16:44.77 of times. First he tells us to eat 00:16:44.77\00:16:47.17 honey because it is good. Solomon said in the book of 00:16:47.17\00:16:49.97 Proverbs: "My son, eat honey because it is good, and the 00:16:49.97\00:16:54.68 honeycomb which is sweet to your taste." 00:16:54.68\00:16:57.58 (Proverbs 24:13). Now that is good news. 00:16:57.58\00:17:01.85 But tell me what parent would let their child loose with an 00:17:01.85\00:17:05.85 entire pot of honey? We wouldn't do that because 00:17:05.85\00:17:08.92 we know that wouldn't be good for us. 00:17:08.92\00:17:11.66 What are the type of foods that are full of sugar that 00:17:11.66\00:17:13.96 we eat a lot of? Confectionary, soft drinks 00:17:13.96\00:17:18.23 ... the list goes on. 00:17:18.23\00:17:20.24 It's a big list. Is God giving us poor advice 00:17:20.24\00:17:23.44 here? No - we read in Proverbs 00:17:23.44\00:17:26.47 25:16, something that balances this up. 00:17:26.47\00:17:31.05 Proverbs 25 and verse 16: "Have you found honey? 00:17:31.05\00:17:37.52 Eat only as much as you need, lest you be filled with it 00:17:37.52\00:17:44.09 and vomit." I remember as a child that my 00:17:44.09\00:17:46.59 brother went to a party and got stuck into his favorite 00:17:46.59\00:17:49.56 food. We used to call them 00:17:49.56\00:17:51.57 "Chocolate Crackles". They were made out of Rice 00:17:51.57\00:17:53.64 Krispies and chocolate and honey. 00:17:53.64\00:17:58.44 This boy was in his element. And without our mum looking 00:17:58.44\00:18:03.04 over his shoulder, he ate just as many of those things 00:18:03.04\00:18:05.58 as he wanted to, not as many as he needed to. 00:18:05.58\00:18:09.15 How did they work out? Let's just say... 00:18:09.15\00:18:14.32 it wasn't pretty. We read in Proverbs 25:27, 00:18:14.32\00:18:18.76 "It is not good to eat much honey." 00:18:18.76\00:18:22.90 (And what's meant by that is TOO much honey.) At least he used to. 00:18:36.88\00:18:39.25 He ate them for years. But he doesn't anymore (very 00:18:39.25\00:18:41.85 often...) I asked him recently why he gave them up. 00:18:41.85\00:18:44.39 He simply said: "Just too much sugar in them. 00:18:44.39\00:18:48.09 I know it's not good for me". Well I am glad to say that 00:18:48.09\00:18:51.19 you can teach an old dog new tricks. 00:18:51.19\00:18:55.80 Let me share with you something. 00:18:55.80\00:18:57.80 I want to share with you another text out of the 00:18:57.80\00:19:00.90 Bible, this time from the book of Proverbs, from 00:19:00.90\00:19:04.24 Solomon, and notice what it says. 00:19:04.24\00:19:07.28 Proverbs 23:1-3 says this: 00:19:07.28\00:19:13.25 "When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider 00:19:16.28\00:19:19.42 carefully what is before you; and put a knife to your 00:19:19.42\00:19:22.86 throat if you are a man given to appetite. 00:19:22.86\00:19:25.86 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food." 00:19:25.86\00:19:31.30 It seems to me Solomon is warning us about over-eating. 00:19:31.30\00:19:36.24 Overeating is one of the biggest issues that we have 00:19:36.24\00:19:38.34 today in society, healthwise. You can go to restaurants in 00:19:38.34\00:19:42.64 every city from sea to shining sea and eat as much 00:19:42.64\00:19:46.15 as you want which leads to any number of things - 00:19:46.15\00:19:49.28 including obesity. Obesity is one of ... 00:19:49.28\00:19:52.22 pardon the expression ... the biggest public health 00:19:52.22\00:19:54.52 problems in the Western world today. 00:19:54.52\00:19:56.96 It leads to a host of diseases and chronic 00:19:56.96\00:19:59.69 illnesses including diabetes, cancer, heart disease, 00:19:59.69\00:20:02.83 osteoarthritis, gall stones, gout, asthma... 00:20:02.83\00:20:07.34 the list goes on and on. The Bible gives us good 00:20:07.34\00:20:10.84 advice. Don't over eat. 00:20:10.84\00:20:13.54 Along with overeating goes the national habit of eating 00:20:13.54\00:20:15.54 between meals. This is a nation that 00:20:15.54\00:20:18.75 has been encouraged to eat whenever it wants, 00:20:18.75\00:20:21.42 what it wants, how it wants. It is best to follow 00:20:21.42\00:20:24.95 the Bible's advice and teach ourselves not to overeat 00:20:24.95\00:20:28.46 and not to eat between meals. This brother I've been 00:20:28.46\00:20:33.13 telling you about told me recently that he had lost 00:20:33.13\00:20:35.13 about 9 pounds. I thought, well, he must have 00:20:35.13\00:20:37.47 got himself on the latest wonder diet from Oprah or Kim 00:20:37.47\00:20:39.97 Kardashian. He said "No, no. 00:20:39.97\00:20:42.44 My wife suggested that I eat my meal on a smaller plate." 00:20:42.44\00:20:47.24 Simple. He didn't notice any real 00:20:47.24\00:20:49.54 difference until it seemed to him as if his belt had 00:20:49.54\00:20:53.25 stretched. He suggested I try the same 00:20:53.25\00:20:56.12 thing - the smaller plate... and I suggested that he was 00:20:56.12\00:20:58.69 meddling. Solomon also tells us to 00:20:58.69\00:21:02.52 avoid the "delicacies". Now these are the extras, the 00:21:02.52\00:21:06.29 treats, the indulgences we like to eat. 00:21:06.29\00:21:10.00 Back in Solomon's time it seems like only the rich 00:21:10.00\00:21:12.10 could afford those things. Today they are available 00:21:12.10\00:21:15.50 to everyone. When it comes to practical 00:21:15.50\00:21:18.64 suggestions for our diet and health, the Bible has got 00:21:18.64\00:21:23.11 a lot to say. Here's just one more point. 00:21:23.11\00:21:25.38 God gave the children of Israel extensive advice on 00:21:25.38\00:21:28.85 what they could or couldn't eat. 00:21:28.85\00:21:31.49 On what they should or shouldn't eat. 00:21:31.49\00:21:33.49 In Leviticus 3:17, God says. "This shall be a perpetual 00:21:33.49\00:21:37.66 statute throughout your generations in all your 00:21:37.66\00:21:40.23 dwellings: you shall eat neither fat nor blood." 00:21:40.23\00:21:46.40 Interesting! God told his people not to 00:21:46.40\00:21:50.87 eat fat. If that strikes you as 00:21:50.87\00:21:54.41 strange, the truth is God was simply up on the latest good 00:21:54.41\00:21:59.21 health information. I suspect that if you went to 00:21:59.21\00:22:02.05 your doctor for health advice he or she will tell you not 00:22:02.05\00:22:04.59 to eat fat. For many of us a low fat diet 00:22:04.59\00:22:07.89 is just common sense. You certainly don't get that 00:22:07.89\00:22:12.23 at some of these hamburger places we've been discussing. 00:22:12.23\00:22:16.56 God also advice about which animals should or shouldn't 00:22:16.56\00:22:21.44 be eaten. Or perhaps I should say, may 00:22:21.44\00:22:24.04 or may not be eaten. It was as simple as this. 00:22:24.04\00:22:28.08 This is what God says. You find it in the Holy 00:22:28.08\00:22:30.78 Bible. "Whatever in the water has 00:22:30.78\00:22:34.58 fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the 00:22:34.58\00:22:38.02 rivers--that you may eat. But all in the seas or in the 00:22:38.02\00:22:42.89 rivers that do not have fins and scales..." 00:22:42.89\00:22:46.39 God says leave it off the menu. 00:22:46.39\00:22:49.86 God said in the same chapter that birds of prey or those 00:22:49.86\00:22:53.77 birds that feed on offal or carrion - the scavengers and 00:22:53.77\00:22:57.37 carnivorous birds - God says we shouldn't eat them either. 00:22:57.37\00:23:01.68 The fact is they're likely the most likely to transmit 00:23:01.68\00:23:05.75 disease to humans. If you're out driving and you 00:23:05.75\00:23:08.95 see an animal that's been hit by a car you don't say, "Good 00:23:08.95\00:23:11.25 news, here's dinner!" You know better than that. 00:23:11.25\00:23:15.29 Those birds see those animals on the side of the road, they 00:23:15.29\00:23:17.86 say "Good news! Here's dinner!" 00:23:17.86\00:23:19.86 Why would we want to eat them? 00:23:19.86\00:23:23.26 God made clear that the only animals that should be eaten 00:23:23.26\00:23:27.07 are the ones that have a cloven hoof and chew the cud. 00:23:27.07\00:23:33.04 Now, that would be what? Well - cows, goats, deer, 00:23:33.04\00:23:37.31 sheep... maybe some others. 00:23:37.31\00:23:39.48 But God said animals we shouldn't eat include the 00:23:39.48\00:23:43.02 camel - bound to disappoint you I know - rabbits, 00:23:43.02\00:23:48.22 badgers, and pigs. Hummmm. 00:23:48.22\00:23:51.89 Getting closer to home now. God said they are unfit to 00:23:51.89\00:23:56.23 eat. You read that in the Bible. 00:23:56.23\00:23:59.87 God doesn't want the food that we eat to make us sick. 00:23:59.87\00:24:04.77 He gives us an overarching principle in 1 Corinthians 00:24:04.77\00:24:07.31 10:31. He said this, he said 00:24:07.31\00:24:10.08 "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, 00:24:10.08\00:24:13.11 do all to the glory of God."
