That's what happened to
a man from the southwest

of Chicago, IL.

His life was turned
upside down, and people all over

Chicago were
shocked, and horrified.

In the 1970s, claims
were made that Frank Walus had
00:00:59.36\00:01:02.63
collaborated with the
Gestapo during World War 2,
00:01:02.63\00:01:05.73
and before long Mr. Walus found
himself in court facing very
00:01:05.73\00:01:08.83
serious charges.
00:01:08.83\00:01:10.60
A gruesome picture
was painted of him.
00:01:10.60\00:01:12.96
It was said that he had
participated in the murder of
00:01:12.96\00:01:15.56
innocent Jews in Poland:
and that he had cooperated
00:01:15.56\00:01:18.53
with the Nazis to
kill women and children.
00:01:18.53\00:01:21.40
He was identified by several
people who claimed to have
00:01:21.40\00:01:23.96
witnessed him carrying
out atrocities during the war.
00:01:23.96\00:01:27.66
His US citizenship was
revoked, because - it was
00:01:27.66\00:01:30.33
claimed - he didn't
reveal his involvement with the
00:01:30.33\00:01:32.43
Nazis when applying to
come to the United States.
00:01:32.43\00:01:35.40
It seemed to many that
authorities had rooted out
00:01:35.40\00:01:37.73
another war criminal.
00:01:37.73\00:01:39.16
Many believed the case
against Frank Walus was
00:01:39.16\00:01:41.36
watertight: a wartime monster,
identified by eye-witnesses
00:01:41.36\00:01:45.46
as a killer and a tyrant.
00:01:45.46\00:01:47.66
Well, information came
to light that suggested that
00:01:47.66\00:01:51.50
maybe Frank Walus was not
the war criminal he had been
00:01:51.50\00:01:55.36
portrayed as.

In fact, his attorney
unearthed the evidence

demonstrating that Mr
Walus wasn't the man who
00:01:58.66\00:02:00.86
participated in cruel
beatings and callous murders.

And a writer in the New York
Times said that Mr. Walus was

in fact a farm
labourer rather than a Nazi

sympathiser at the time the
alleged atrocities took place.

The US government dropped
the case against Walus, with
00:02:13.73\00:02:16.56
prosectors saying that Mr
Walus had NEVER BEEN at the
00:02:16.56\00:02:20.70
concentration camp in Kielce,
Poland, where many of the
00:02:20.70\00:02:24.30
atrocities alleged to
have involved Mr Walus had
00:02:24.30\00:02:26.36
taken place.
00:02:26.36\00:02:27.96
Frank Walus died
in 1994, at age 72.
00:02:27.96\00:02:31.83
A question - an important
question - was being asked at

Mr Walus' trial.

Was he the "Beast of Kielce",
or in actuality a kind man

quietly living his life,

that there's a very real devil.

Revelation chapter 12
talks in some detail about this

being, saying in verse 9, "So
the great dragon was cast out

[that's out of heaven], that
old serpent called the devil

and Satan, which
deceiveth the whole world...."

Notice here, not only is the
devil real, but he's referred

to as a dragon - a prophetic
symbol that you'll find in

the book of Revelation -
and he is referred to as the

serpent, referring to the
way he tempted Adam and Eve in

the Garden of Eden.

Jesus referenced
the devil Himself.

In John 8 Jesus referred to
the devil as a liar, and the

father of lies.

Satan tempted Jesus in
the wilderness -you remember-,

and you might recall when
Jesus was talking to Peter

and he rebuked him by
saying, "Get behind me Satan,"

in Matthew 16.

So yes, the devil is real.

He was once an angel who
lived in the presence of God,

but filled with pride
and selfishness he rebelled

against God and we
evicted from heaven.

Satan is responsible for
the evil that is in the world.

You know, so many people
want to blame God for mayhem in

the world today, mayhem which
is evidence of the evil that
00:05:13.83\00:05:18.03
exists in this world.
00:05:18.03\00:05:19.83
But here's what
you need to know.

1 John 4:4, the Bible says,
00:05:21.80\00:05:25.13
"Greater is He that is in you
than he that is in the world."

The God of heaven is
much more powerful than Satan.

The devil will
tempt, yes he will.

God can deliver, and
He will if you ask Him to.

There certainly is a devil.

But the really good news
is, there really is a Saviour,

before the judgment seat
of Christ; that each one may

receive the things done in
the body, according to what
00:06:58.16\00:07:01.16
he has done,
whether good or bad". (NKJV)

In the book of Revelation,
John gives us a bigger
00:07:04.20\00:07:06.46
picture of the judgment.
00:07:06.46\00:07:08.10
Revelation 20:12 says,
"And I saw the dead, small and
00:07:08.10\00:07:12.13
great, stand before God;
and the books were opened:
00:07:12.13\00:07:15.80
and another book was opened,
which is the book of life:
00:07:15.80\00:07:18.66
and the dead were out of
those things written in the
00:07:18.66\00:07:21.40
books, according to
their works". ( KJV )

You know, many people are
concerned by the idea that
00:07:24.80\00:07:27.10
God is going to
examine their lives.

They worry that
things will go against them
00:07:29.36\00:07:31.60
when God judges.
00:07:31.60\00:07:33.10
If you were appearing in
an earthly court, you might be
00:07:33.10\00:07:36.33
worried about what the
prosecution had dug up to use
00:07:36.33\00:07:38.83
as evidence against you.
00:07:38.83\00:07:40.93
But what do you think GOD
might be able to find against
00:07:40.93\00:07:43.23
you?

Now here's where we
must keep something in mind.

God isn't looking to do
all He can to condemn people.
00:07:46.93\00:07:51.16
He's doing everything
He can to SAVE people.

Most people are familiar with
that famous verse John 3:16.

John 3:17 says this.
00:07:56.63\00:08:02.10
"For God sent not His Son
into the world to condemn the
00:08:02.10\00:08:08.80
world, but that the world
through Him might be saved."
00:08:08.80\00:08:13.46
No, God didn't sent Jesus
to the world to condemn us, but
00:08:13.46\00:08:16.56
for the purpose of
seeing people saved from sin
00:08:16.56\00:08:19.76
and its penalty.
00:08:19.76\00:08:21.70
So what, then, is
this judgment all about?
00:08:21.70\00:08:24.90
A 'good' person might say,
"I am a good person and surely
00:08:24.90\00:08:28.00
judgment is for
other people and not me."
00:08:28.00\00:08:31.60
Well, let's think about this.
00:08:31.60\00:08:32.20
In Matthew 7:21 Jesus says
that there is going to come a
00:08:32.20\00:08:37.26
time when many people come
to Him and say, "Lord, Lord,
00:08:37.26\00:08:38.96
haven't we done
wonderful works in your name?"
00:08:38.96\00:08:42.16
They talk about having done
such things as healing the sick
00:08:42.16\00:08:43.63
and working miracles
- good things, for sure!
00:08:43.63\00:08:45.26
And yet Jesus surprises
these people by saying,
00:08:45.26\00:08:46.40
"I never knew you!"
00:08:46.40\00:08:53.86
There's a question as
to who they really are.
00:08:53.86\00:08:56.60
Maybe they HAD done SOME
things in their lives that were
00:08:56.60\00:08:58.96
laudable.
00:08:58.96\00:09:00.40
But here, they run to
Jesus and call Him 'Lord', while
00:09:00.40\00:09:04.23
Jesus knows what
they're REALLY like.
00:09:04.23\00:09:06.93
They're pretenders.
00:09:06.93\00:09:08.20
Phonies.
00:09:08.20\00:09:10.93
There's a Bible story that
illustrations this perfectly.
00:09:10.93\00:09:15.06
The children of Israel
entered the promised land,
00:09:15.06\00:09:17.46
and not long after
they're approached by a group of
00:09:17.46\00:09:19.73
people claiming to be
from a distant country.
00:09:19.73\00:09:22.33
"We heard of you, and of
your great God, and we traveled
00:09:22.33\00:09:25.53
a great distance to
join ourselves to you
00:09:25.53\00:09:27.90
& be your servants.
00:09:27.90\00:09:29.56
And Joshua says, "Great!
00:09:29.56\00:09:31.56
Glad to have you on board.
00:09:31.56\00:09:32.93
Welcome to Canaan!"
00:09:32.93\00:09:34.53
And then, not too long
afterward, it comes to light
00:09:34.53\00:09:37.83
that these people ARE
NOT pilgrims from a distant
00:09:37.83\00:09:40.26
country - they're the
Gibeonites, from very nearby
00:09:40.26\00:09:43.60
in Canaan.
00:09:43.60\00:09:45.66
They were enemies of God!
00:09:45.66\00:09:47.33
But Joshua never checked.
00:09:47.33\00:09:50.60
He took their word for it!
00:09:50.60\00:09:53.43
And so the Gibeonites became
joined to God's people, and
00:09:53.43\00:09:55.53
even though a system was
devised to make that work as
00:09:55.53\00:09:56.90
well as possible, it
caused some real problems.
00:09:56.90\00:10:00.90
As much as God might like for
everyone to be saved eternally,
00:10:00.90\00:10:05.03
He knows - and we know
- that God cannot allow
00:10:05.03\00:10:09.23
a bunch of
pretenders into His kingdom.
00:10:09.23\00:10:11.83
So, before eternity
comes there's going to be a
00:10:11.83\00:10:14.73
judgment, a time when God
can ascertain who really has
00:10:14.73\00:10:18.16
chosen Him genuinely, and
a time when He can separate
00:10:18.16\00:10:21.50
out, if you like, those who
really are not true believers
00:10:21.50\00:10:24.03
as they claim to be.
00:10:24.03\00:10:25.93
This isn't God trying to
find out something He doesn't
00:10:25.93\00:10:27.66
already know.
00:10:27.66\00:10:29.93
This is much like an audit,
if you like, where God reviews
00:10:29.93\00:10:33.16
the records, reviews the
claims that people have made
00:10:33.16\00:10:37.53
and see how those claims
stack up against reality.

Simple example: when you
cross a border and enter another
00:10:40.76\00:10:43.86
country, you usually
have to hand over some
00:10:43.86\00:10:46.43
identification and
perhaps some documentation.
00:10:46.43\00:10:49.80
The last time I crossed into
Canada from the United States,
00:10:49.80\00:10:52.70
I arrived at the border
claiming I'm a trustworthy
00:10:52.70\00:10:55.10
guy, that I'm not
there to cause trouble, and
00:10:55.10\00:10:58.13
that I'm wanting to go to
Canada for legitimate reasons
00:10:58.13\00:11:00.93
and not to be a
hindrance or a nuisance.
00:11:00.93\00:11:05.10
So, I hand over some
documents, and then the
00:11:05.10\00:11:06.96
border guard asks
me some questions.
00:11:06.96\00:11:08.50
"Why are you coming into Canada?
00:11:08.50\00:11:10.00
Why are you crossing the
border at this time of night?
00:11:10.00\00:11:13.50
How long have you known
that guy you're with and why are
00:11:13.50\00:11:15.73
you with him?"
00:11:15.73\00:11:16.70
Was it really necessary
for the border guard to ask me
00:11:16.70\00:11:18.60
those questions?
00:11:18.60\00:11:21.96
Of course not!
00:11:21.96\00:11:22.96
He COULD have
just TRUSTED me, right?
00:11:22.96\00:11:28.73
So why didn't he?
00:11:28.73\00:11:29.53
Why not just take
my word for things?

Because, I might not
have been telling the truth!

How does he know
that I'm not trouble?

So he checks out my
documents, looks at his

computer, asks me some
questions, and then, when

he's satisfied I'm on
the level and that I'm not a

threat to Canadian national
security, he let's me into
00:11:43.50\00:11:46.20
the country.
00:11:46.20\00:11:47.53
That's really how
the judgment works.

You've got a mass of people
who claim that they're loyal
00:11:49.73\00:11:51.50
to God and won't pose a
threat to the stability of
00:11:51.50\00:11:54.13
heaven.
00:11:54.13\00:11:55.23
Should we ask God to
let those people into heaven
00:11:55.23\00:11:58.03
BASED ON THEIR WORD?
00:11:58.03\00:12:00.36
Or would it be slightly more
responsible of God to look at
00:12:00.36\00:12:03.33
the documentation - the books
of record - and perhaps do a
00:12:03.33\00:12:06.80
little investigating to see
if Person A really is what he
00:12:06.80\00:12:09.76
or she claims to be?
00:12:09.76\00:12:11.96
And let's take that up a notch.
00:12:11.96\00:12:14.40
Not only is it important
for that border guard to ensure
00:12:14.40\00:12:18.20
justice is done, it is also
important that he BE SEEN to
00:12:18.20\00:12:23.90
ensure justice is done.
00:12:23.90\00:12:25.90
God could just wave a lot
of people through and into the
00:12:25.90\00:12:28.66
kingdom knowing they're
ok, but there's a universe
00:12:28.66\00:12:31.70
looking on - and it is vital
that God Himself is not only
00:12:31.70\00:12:35.26
just, but that He is SEEN
TO BE JUST in the process of
00:12:35.26\00:12:40.06
judging the world.
00:12:40.06\00:12:41.33
The Bible says in Romans
3:23, you might know this
00:12:41.33\00:12:44.96
verse, "...all have sinned,
and come short of the glory
00:12:44.96\00:12:48.76
of God." KJV and
then just a page or
00:12:48.76\00:12:50.86
so over, the Bible says,
(Romans 6:23), "For the wages
00:12:50.86\00:12:55.06
of sin is death; but the
gift of God is eternal life
00:12:55.06\00:12:57.73
through Jesus Christ our Lord."

So in the judgment process-
in this auditing process -

God is looking to see whether
we've really chosen his gift

of eternal life through
Jesus, or, whether we've only
00:13:08.80\00:13:11.73
made some sort of
hollow claim to God's grace.

God is asking the question,
"Who, really, are you?"

It reminds me of that 70s
song by The Who, who sang,

"Oh, I really want
to know - Who Are You?"

Now, I'm not sure how many
times The Who have popped up

in a discussion about
God's working with human beings,

but that's really what
God is asking in the judgment.

"Who are You?
00:13:34.16\00:13:35.56
You say you're one thing,
but because the truth could be
00:13:35.56\00:13:38.10
otherwise, I'm going
to conduct this audit.
00:13:38.10\00:13:41.76
And we'll find out who you are.

And if you are who you claim
to be - if you're really my
00:13:43.66\00:13:46.16
child - then you've
got nothing to fear."

you ever been audited?

a letter from the taxman

What might they find?

a former Wall Street analyst

well for herself.

When she was arrested
and jailed, and found herself

facing up to 25 years in
prison, she just couldn't

understand what was going on.

Even though she didn't have
a criminal record, she spent

Today we're discussing
the Biblical idea that one day

God is going to judge
everyone on the earth.

2 Corinthians 5:10 says that,
"[W]e must all appear before

the judgment seat of Christ."

And why is that, do you think?

Could it be because God needs
to find answers to questions,

because there are
certain things He doesn't know?
00:17:56.20\00:17:58.83
Is God on a
fact-finding mission?

No.

But perhaps God is making
sure that the claims people

make about themselves
as being His children are

actually accurate claims.

And perhaps God is
going through this audit of

heaven's books or
record because its in the best

interest of the universe
to know that God has gone

through some type of
process to ensure only the RIGHT

people are
granted everlasting life.

we could just trust God.

I think I'd be satisfied
if God told me He had done the

right thing and
that I could trust Him.

But what if you got to heaven
and there were some people

there that you never
thought would be there?

Or what if some people you
were certain would be there

You might have questions.

auditing process - a judgment

answering a lot of questions.

Not questions that God
has, but questions that we might

have when we arrive in glory.

You see, the judgment isn't
something you need to fear.

Because Jesus died for
you, you can repent of your sins

and be completely forgiven.

God will give you Jesus'
own goodness in place of your

sin, and as a 'new creature'
as the Bible says, you can

live for God and look
forward to heaven right now.

I mentioned a few moments
ago that I was audited by the

IRS.

When I got that letter I
realized that they were going

to be asking some
questions of me regarding my tax

return.
00:19:27.96\00:19:28.46
Now, I hasten to point
out here that it was a random
00:19:28.46\00:19:29.96
audit.
00:19:29.96\00:19:30.33
I hadn't done
anything to upset Uncle Sam.

When I found out the IRS
was going to be checking out my
00:19:31.50\00:19:37.86
tax return, you know what?
00:19:37.86\00:19:41.60
I wasn't the least bit worried.
00:19:41.60\00:19:43.66
Because I knew I'd done
nothing wrong and had obeyed
00:19:43.66\00:19:45.66
the law.
00:19:45.66\00:19:46.66
They could look all they
want, and I knew everything
00:19:46.66\00:19:49.23
would be okay.
00:19:49.23\00:19:50.43
Its like a non-drinker being
asked to take a breath test -
00:19:50.43\00:19:54.93
what is there to worry about?
00:19:54.93\00:19:56.46
The same is true
with the judgment.

God is going to be checking
to see if the people who have
00:19:58.16\00:19:59.83
claimed to be followers of
Jesus really are followers of

Jesus.
00:20:02.90\00:20:03.23
And if they are,
there's nothing at all to fear.

The very good news is
that God is on your side in the

judgment.

Imagine arriving in God's
courtroom, and having Satan

turn up to sit
through your trial.

I think we could expect
that he'd be there saying

something like, "John
Bradshaw is not worth it.
00:20:18.60\00:20:21.86
Look at all the sins
that he has committed.
00:20:21.86\00:20:23.86
I know what he did because
I tempted him to do everything
00:20:23.86\00:20:25.86
that he did.-that's
all the bad things-.
00:20:25.86\00:20:28.83
You can't forgive him.
00:20:28.83\00:20:30.16
His sins are too bad.
00:20:30.16\00:20:31.33
If you can forgive him then
you have to let ME back into

heaven, too."

Imagine that - knowing that
the devil is right there and

that over the years you've
made a lot of mistakes and

committed a lot of sins.

I'd probably feel as though
I was about to lose the case.

There'd be nothing I
could do to get myself out of my
00:20:46.90\00:20:50.86
predicament.

But just when I feel it is
all over for me maybe Jesus
00:20:51.60\00:20:55.06
would say something
like, "Father, yes you can save
00:20:55.06\00:20:57.36
that one.
00:20:57.36\00:20:58.90
Yes I know John Bradshaw
has sinned and I know his sins

were serious,
but I died for him.

He has repented,
and has been forgiven.

He belongs to me.

I bought him with my life."

Let's look at a wonderful
Bible text that helps to

In your imagination think of
Jesus suffering on the cross.

Of course he was suffering
from great physical agony.

Think about what he
had just gone through.

But listen to this.

Psalm 40:12 says,
"For innumerable evils have

surrounded me; my iniquities

are more than the hairs of my

head: therefore
my heart fails me."

Jesus says "My"
iniquities were on Him -

but we know He didn't sin.

Those were our sins that
he took upon himself at the

cross.

Isaiah wrote that
Jesus "was wounded for our
00:21:54.23\00:21:56.43
transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities:"
00:21:56.43\00:21:59.90
The burden of our sins was
so great that after only 6 hours
00:21:59.90\00:22:03.53
on that terrible cross he
suffered from heart failure
00:22:03.53\00:22:06.16
and died.
00:22:06.16\00:22:08.06
Jesus took our
sins upon himself.

So when our names come up in
judgment God checks to see if

we have given up our sins and
handed them over to Jesus and

then lived in
connection with him.

That's all.

Micah chapter 7 and verse
19 says "He will turn again, he

will have compassion
upon us; he will subdue our

depths of the sea."

You know, there's a place
where the Pacific Ocean is

But what God wants us
to catch here is that if we

judgment he will declare that

I remember a teacher at my
High School that we used to

carried an umbrella and we

all had a deadly fear of him.

We pretty much tried to
keep out of his way in case he

pointed that
umbrella at one of us.

If that happened
your number was up.

Punishment would follow.

Of course that
never ever happened to me.

isn't looking for reasons to
